Ideapad Z500 - problems after motherboard replacement

Q: Ideapad Z500 - problems after motherboard replacement

Good morning! That's the first time I post on this community, so HI EVERYBODY! I have replaced the motherboard on my girlfriend's laptop, an Ideapad Z500 with Win10 Home, 'cause 1 month ago it simply dies and even the battery wasn't charging.I have ordered the motherboard with integrated graphic card (manufacturer KEFU model VIWZ1 LA-9063P Rev 1.0) on Aliexpress, installed it and the PC runs back again! YUPPI!!!! Unfortunately there are two small problems right now that I can't fix (maybe connected to BIOS?):- the CPU cooling fan is running fast immediately after the PC is switched on- the battery is charging correctly but the icon in the right corner of the monitor doesn't move and when I select it the message says always "02 minutes to complete charge" Right now this are the main problems I have, and I want to fix it. Can you help me? THANKS A LOT!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there, I want to replace my device's default screen panel (1366x768) with a FULL HD (1920 x 1080) panel. I didn't open the case of my laptop to see the serial of the panel cause of warranty situations. I've talked with local Lenovo technical service in here to replace it but i learned that they don't have any screen panel replacement service for my laptop model. So i want to change it myself with a suitable panel.  There're some different panels written in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for this device; HD-AG, AUO B156XTN03.4 HW0A HD AG S LED1 NB LCD 18200763HD-AG, CMI N156BGE-LA1 HD AG S LED1 NB LCD 18200764HD-AG, BOE HB156WX1-600 HD AG S LED1 NB LCD 18200765HD-AG, SDC 156AT29-401 HD AG S LED1 NB LCD 18200706HD-AG, LGD LP156WHU-TLB1 HD AG S LED1 NB LCD 18200766HD -G, AUO B156XTN03.2 HD G S LED1 NB LCD 18200449HD -G, CMI N156BGE-LB1 HD G S LED1 NB LCD 18200450HD -G, BOE HB156WX1-500 HD G S LED1 NB LCD 18200767HD -G, SDC 156AT29-L01 HD G S LED1 NB LCD 18200705HD -G, LGD LP156WHU-TLA1 HD G S LED1 NB LCD 18200768 I don't know which one is attached. I'll be glad if any Support Specialist can assist me to find out which panel is attached to my device right now. So i'll be able to search for a FULL HD one that suits. Thank you.

Hi, my sons Z500 screen has cracked and I am after a replacement screen. This is the non touch sensitive screen and has a gloss finish. Could anyone tell me if Lenovo used just one screen for this laptop or if they used a couple of different types of screens during manufacture, like some other companies. I know I can remove the old screen to have a look at the specs, but my son is still using the laptop with an external monitor and would prefer me not to take his precious computer apart until I have the new screen. Any help will be very appreciated.many thanksIan

Hi.I bought the Lenovo Ideapad Z500 and I'm trying to boot from a USB drive in order to install Windows on it.When I start the boot menu I only see the hard-drive, the DVD and the network.I tried to set both UEFI mode and Legacy mode in BIOS but the USB stick does not appear in the menu when I boot.I put the image of windows with Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool which formats the stick in NTFS mode.I have the latest BIOS v1.21 and I tried with 2 different USB sticks: one 16GB USB 2.0 Corsair and with a 32GB USB 3.0 ADATA both on USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports on the notebook.I really haven't seen anything like this in my entire career. I even downloaded the file efi\boot\BOOTX64.efi and replaced the one that Windows come with on the specified folder on the USB stick ....Why is so difficult to choose the USB boot drive on the newer notebooks?Does someone have a clue how can I boot from USB?Thanks in advance!  Bupitz

A:USB boot for Ideapad Z500

Hi,

I don't think I can be of much help, but a couple of things to try:  if your USB flash drive is formatted NTFS, it will only boot in legacy mode if it is bootable at all.  One thing you might try is to set the partition active if it isn't already.

If you want to boot in UEFI mode, format the flash drive with a single FAT32 partition.  Copy the contents of your install DVD to the flash drive.  If you're using an ISO copy the contents of the iso using a tool like 7zip.  UEFI bootabiliyt doesn't require using a special tool to prep the drive.  Just format it and copy the install medium to it.

Win7 requires CSM support in bios to boot successfully in UEFI mode.  That may always be enabled in UEFI mode or it may be a separate option in BIOS.

Product key is stored in BIOS, so there is no need to use any app to read it.Download a tool to create bootable media from Microsoft website and install Windows 8.1 using it:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8 Moreover at first, you may try to restore your Windows 10 to factory state (do a backup of all important data first). Go to Settings -> Recovery -> Reset this PC and select Remove everything.

Hi sherif1984 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It maybe the Windows automatic update that changed previous driver , it would help if you recall the date it was working ok with the driver for a system restore to jump back .

Check current version of the video driver via device manager (right click on device for property) . It may also offer rollback driver but system restore can provide better rollback as it applies with all other drivers that may have changed along with the date.

Older drivers version are available from the support site on a different OS version .
Z500 is not listed on Win10 supported models that is why Win10 driver versions are not available.

Particular configurations of a computer model may include hardware components not compatible with Windows 10. Therefore, its upgrade to Windows 10 is not recommended.
The following listed computer models include hardware components not fully compatible with Windows 10. Therefore, upgrading these models to Windows 10 is not recommended

I have a new z500 that I've downgraded to Windows 7 64bit. For the most part I have everything working. I accidentally hit the brightness + (yes, +) and it instantly dimmed the screen to where it is barely viewable. It seems that hitting that one key decreased the brightness to the minimum amount. I've rebooted, looked for a setting in the BIOS, hit the Brightness +/- and can't increase the brightness. It is interesting because the other hot keys work correctly. I've even upped the brightness in the Control Panel, but nothing seems to work. The screen is extremely dim whenever the machine is powered on (including the BIOS), not just in Windows. I tried a lot of intel chipset drivers, the available Intel HD 4000 drivers in Win8 and win7 too, but nothing working. Can someone please help with how to up the brightness?

To start with, yeah I know ... clean install is the best way to go ... Please don't go there. This shouldn't be so hard to do:

Am trying to replace a motherboard. I installed (as best I could "install") the drivers of the new motherboard in the previous environment and for those things I couldn't install (gee, that hardware isn't present ... duhhhhhh) I copied the installation files to the hdd and then copied the inf's to the windows\inf directory, just for the halibut.

I removed/disabled all the system devices I could which were specific to the previous motherboard and then shut down.

Reboot to the new and boot fails, momentary blue screen which disappears before it can be read, reboot, and the things displays the startup repair option. I tried to do F8 so I could boot safe mode and install the drivers that way, but fricking Windows won't let me get anything other than startup repair or windows normal.

WHY WONT THE FORNICATING ILLEGITIMATE CHILDREN FROM REDMOND LET ME BOOT TO SAFE MODE?!!!!

Startup Repair, of course, fails and tells me to boot from install media, which I do. That repair routine then screws the pooch by assigning the System Reserved partition the letter C, the normal C volume becomes D, and we all know how windows is going to react to that little bit of fun ...

So I go to the command prompt in the system recovery tools, run diskpart, remove the C from system reserved, make it ACTIVE, and assign C to the windows volume.

As you said...don't go there but that's exactly what has to be done. When changing critical hardware....mobo, cpu's....it's a must to to reinstall the OS. This is because of the driver/firmware conflicts from old mobo to new mobo. Even though you have uninstalled all the old drivers, there is always some remnants left over which doesn't play nice with the current hardware as you have found out. Hence the reinstall is always done.

I know you didn't want to here this but the fact remains, a reinstall is required. Just back up and save any and all data you deem viable and then reinstall.

You'll be better off and less aggravation.

Good luck.

Hello, I've had my ideapad z500 for exactly 4 years last month, 4 years in which it worked perfectly (except for the brightness problem that seems to plague this model and had me recover the whole system evry time I accidentally lowered brightness) It still works perfectly, but 3 days ago it suddenly started whirring and vibrating. The vibration seems even throughout the laptop, but the sound seems to come form the left side (again, I can't really tell).First time it happened, I freaked out and force-shut it down (holding the power button). This made the whirring stop, but when I started it again, it resumed. Again, i stopped the machine and I started trying to unscrew everything I found (I mean, it's been 4 years, so I assume I had no warranty anyway), but I couldn't really open anything, so i put back the 9 screws. I mention this because, apparently, me turning it on all sides must've done something to it, because after starting the laptop again, there was no sound. The next days it worked just fine.Today, however, it started again. I didn't close it immediately and I continued using it some 3 minutes (and except for the sound and vibration, everything was working perfectly), hoping that it will go away, but it didn't and I turned off the laptop. Other details that might be important:-while I normally use the laptop for cpu-intensive tasks, this occured in a week when I distinctively didn't do anything other than text editing and web browsing. I recently tried to turn on my z500 after dropping it on the charging port whilst it was charging. However, after trying to turn it on it wouldnt start. I have tried the hard reset of pressing the button every 1 second 10 times and then holding the power button for 30 seconds.I have also replaced the charging cable inside the laptop and also used a spare charger.  Disconnecting the battery does not resolve the issue eitherWhen plugging in the charger, the battery light does not light up as well.Is there any solution to this? Thanks!

Hello all, I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z500 taking long time to boot (almost 30 min) The computer is stuck with black screen during 30 min, before the lenovo logo appears and then it boots fine. Before logo, just a black screen and power looks good. The problem, the fans don't work and the computer gets very warm. Sometimes, because the high-temperatures, it automatically switches down, because temperatures, before seeing the lenovo logo. With lenovo diagnosis software I have checked all the hardware, and the tools says all hardware is ok. My os is Windows 10. Could you please, somebody help me to solve this problem? I'm afraid the heat of the start could harm my computer. Why this boot is taking so long before logo? Thank you in advance, ip
