I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Switch Alpha 12 and Windows To Go Compatibility

Windows to Go is a completely seperate Windows instance on a special drive that requires an Enterprise machine to create. I think it is great that your company is adopting, few did when it came out a few years ago but other than the capability to block off the main drive and use Bitlocker it does not need special divers. I am not sure what your issue is. Could you be more explicit ? I have a Switch 12 that came with 8.1 but do not have a Switch Alpha 12. When you load WTG, what does not work ?

Hello,
I may be posting in the wrong section, so I apologize ahead of time.
I purchased an Alienware Alpha Base steam machine that has linux on it.  I've messed around with it and come to the conclusion that I don't like the Steam OS and want to just simply make the entire thing a Windows machine.  Period.  No dual booting, not external hard drive, just convert from linux to Windows 8.1 witch is the version I have available.
I have 8.1 on a thumb drive, and am just looking for someone to point me to direction on how to do so.  Could it be just as simple as booting into the bios and telling the machine to boot from the USB and all is done?
Anyhow, thank you in advance for any help.  Much appreciated.
Thanks,
Timitsoo

A:Alienware Alpha Base Linux to Windows 8.1

That should work, or there should be a key like DEL or F8; something similar that will allow you to boot from the USB stick, as long as your USB stick is properly formatted.

Quote:
A new release of Opera 10.50 is currently available for download for early adopters comfortable with running software in the very early stages of the development process. At the end of last week, Opera software released a second update to the next iteration of the Opera browser, coming one step closer to fully-fledged Alpha. However, at this point in time Opera 10.50 remains in pre-Alpha phase, with the Norway-based browser maker offering no specific deadline as to when the product graduates into Alpha, or any dates from the version?s timetable. Opera 10.50 is developed under the codename Evenes.

The obvious thing to ask is have you downloaded the latest drivers for the Wireless Adapter? and have you tried it in another USB port to see if the other port may be malfunctioning.

Hi all,

I wasn't sure where to post this but seeing as the point I have reached is trying to restore a laptop I thought I would do here.
Get your teeth into this one. I will try to break it all down so you get the facts up to where I am now. I am "fairly ok" ok on a pc and trying to help.

It involves my girlfriends dads laptop. He received a call from alpha pc care partners of Microsoft saying he had corruption. Quick search shows tonnes of scams but he paid for ?110 install. They dialled into or equivalent onto his pc and 'worked' for 3 hours. He watched and saw nothing untoward. All ok and months later can't get onto Internet. Eventually called dell (he has a dell Inspiron n5050) they said mcafe had done an update and there were problems stopping people get online. The dell person dialled in after disabling mcafe and 'worked' on it for an hour and he could then go online.

The next day he went to turn on pc and said when he pressed on it booted in a second as though it had never been off. It showed the log in screen where it said WINDOWS 9. Both him and his wife said this and we're adamant as they had heard that upgrading windows was not worth it and wondered how it happened. Upon logging in it said "rearranging your desktop" and they had search bars at the top of the screen. All their files had gone. No pictures. No favourites. No files. They didn't like it and as both felt unsure after the alpha care situation turned it off. When they turned back o... Read more

A:Strange one involves alpha pc, windows 9?? And restoring a dell laptop

If it was bought in march 2012, it should have a partition possibly hidden from them that contains the factory restore data. Most newer pc's do not use win7 discs anymore and all of that needed stuff, is stored on a separate part or partition on the hdd. You can usually access it by tapping f8 on boot up, which will then bring up the advanced options menu. From here if the windows 7 data is stored on a partition in which it should if a disc was not presented with, you will see "repair your computer" from there see if there is a factory reset of some sort. The windows 9 stuff is trippy
Also if tapping f8 does not work, try holding it instead.

EDIT:
On top of that here is a link provided by dell, on how to restore your pc to factory defualts just in case if my method is not compatible with Dell.

I found this pretty interesting...

If you have problems with shadows being super slow on your ATI card, then I may have a fix.

First, I have Windows XP Professional (all the latest updates) and the newest ATI catalyst drivers. My graphics card is an ATI Radeon 64DDR and I've always had a problem with really, really, really slow menu shadows.

When I install Windows XP for the first time, the menu shadows run fast with the Microsoft supplied graphics driver.

However, when I install official ATI drivers (Over 20 different versions ranging from the first official XP drivers to the newest catalyst drivers) - They have always made menu shadowing painfully slow. I mean, REALLY slow. It takes my Start and Programs Menus over 3 seconds just to close sometimes as it peels off of the background.

I've used third party programs to make certain that alpha blending hardware acceleration is indeed on... It always shows up as enabled so I've never thought much about it. Then I tried disabling hardware acceleration...

Disabling hardware acceleration seemed to fix it! How odd.

So if you have slow XP menu shadows, then try downloading a program like Radeonator (My personal favorite) and turn off "driver alpha blending".

A:Random Alpha Numeric folders keep popping up in our Server and windows 7 computers C Drive Root

They keep coming back though and they stack up a lot, they were never there before it was just recently it started.  Only thing in them is empty x86 folders, sometimes amd64
As I said before, the folders are temporary folders created as a result of installation/uninstallation or during an update install/uninstall, as you can see the folders as x86 or amd64, which denotes the architecture of the installation files. The update is
of non-Microsoft products only. Check with event logs for additional information.Balaji Kundalam

Has anyone ran this yet?

I haven't ran it on Windows yet, but I did run it on my Powerbook G4, I'm very impressed with it. Really the only differences between 9.6 and 10a is the rendering engine, but it seems to be significantly faster. I used to use Opera as my primary browser for any OS, and have since about 2000, but a few months ago I dropped Opera for Safari on my mac because Opera was just too slow and giving me a pinwheel at times I didn't think it should.

I did delete every bit of Opera 9 before installing Opera 10, so some of my speed increase maybe attributed to a fresh set of settings/preferences...

Was just wondering if anyone else has given Opera 10 a shot yet and what they think.

You can get it here: http://www.opera.com/browser/next/
They are of course clamining its much faster ect. And it does pass the Acid 3 test, which is somewhat cool.

I have a small wireless network and i set encryption to WPA instead of WEP for tighter security but I kept having problems with a couple of the pc's not going online and at other times all 4 didn't find each other. I tried WEP but it's not as safe as WPA and it didn't work well either. I heard of a product called Alpha Shield. I checked it out and bought it. Now, it's a firewall, blocks all 3rd party pop-ups, makes your pc invisible to hackers, stops MS Blast, My Doom and similar worms and has 100% guaranteed security. With everything it does, isn't my wireless network as safe as it would be if I had WEP or WPA encryption working?
Thanks,Jim

A:Alpha Shield

No. Alphashield is simply protecting the PC's, not the wireless network itself. Without WEP/WPA, anyone can get on your wireless network and connect to the internet through your router. ie. you're providing essentially free internet access to anyone within about 100 feet of your house.

If you don't care, then you're fine with just using that product.

FWIW, I don't think the problem you were experiencing was a WPA/WEP problem. I'd guess it may have been a shared key problem, or some other firewall (XP's built in firewall?) problem.

I just found this [link] and decided to post it. FireFox's 3.7 Alpha 5 lets you throw your tabs on the top of the browser window, right below the title bar, like Chrome. I've been wanting Mozilla to do that for a while now. xD

A:FireFox 3.7 Alpha

It's looking good so far, but they really need to remove the title bar for it to be on par w/ Chrome. Tabs on top AND flush w/ top of screen when maximized is what makes the feature great in Chrome (allows less precise clicking, if you're like me & don't switch tabs using key shortcuts).

I thought that I would post as I have seen some software posts for invisible Web Surfing and I wondered what Alpha shield really does?

We use it at work at the request of management. We are XP, OS sp2 and are hi speed and have a router each and the Alpha Shield. The large company that looks after our computers did a test and it showed the Ports all in stealth and so I wondered under what concept this devise works and whether it is really good to use as they have given me one along with a router to use at home as I do take work home and do it on my notebook.

I really would appreciate comments. I should say that we have other security programs and have never had problems with our work computers, malware, viruses or other nasties!

I hope to hear from someone regarding this inquiry, thankyou.

Hello all,

Looking to try and convert this alpha logo to DST but i cant seem to find any converters. Is there any programs out there? or anyone that can help me convert this?

Thank you!

A:Alpha Logo to DST?

Hi and welcome to TSG, there are some fairly expensive commercial programs that will do the conversion as well as some free or inexpensive ones that require a lot more user interaction to get good results. A search through some older posts in our "Digital Photography & Imaging" forum will find discussions on both types.

Due to copyright issues, this web site no longer permits members converting graphics files to DST files for other members.

For some reason, after choosing a png, psd or tga that has the alpha channel enabled after saving, it doesn't appear once the texture is chosen when applying it on a surface in the material editor.

I can preview the textures in programs like windows fax/photo viewer and it shows as transparent, but is either white or grey fill in when placed in max.

Is there something else I must do to make it show through? In the viewer it would show as a mostly white texture, instead of the metal grate it's supposed to be.

http://www.wolframalpha.com/There is a new search engine out. It supposedly will get right to the best answer for your search. Gotta warn you, though. If your ego is easily deflated...stay away. Here's what happened. I followed the suggestion on testing out the search engine and entered a date. I chose December 7, 1941 (Japan declareswar on USA and attacks Pearl Harbor) and got the response "Did you meanSeptember 7, 1941?" OK, I gave it another shot. Entered my birth date. Got the response "No siginificantevent for that date". See what I mean? This search engine is out to destroyfragile egos. If you are already suffering from low self esteem, stay away. I am using XP & IE. I have a AVG antivirus program + software from
my cable provider. Yesterday I got a message that my computer was
infected and the screen went to My Computer showing multiple trojans
etc. I could not get out of the loop. Now everytime I try a URL I get a
message that it's been blocked and could harm my computer. I somehow
downloaded a new program called Alpha Antivirus and I can't remove it
with the add/remove feature in Control Panel. Apparently the program has
not been activated as it keeps asking me to do so. Any help with this wouldbe appreciated.

We have a laptop that a friend gave us a year ago. It came with AVG anti-virus and SpySweeper already "loaded" on it (they are "up dated automatically" online). There have been NO problems until the other night when my spouse was online and unknowingly downloaded/clicked on Alpha Anti Virus. While my spouse works on a computer all day at work, they are not "internet savvy".....

I can not get it off the laptop. We do not have any of the original disks that came with the computer as far as programs go. It uses XP and is our "second" computer. The AVG and SpySweeper are NOT detecting the Alpha...and the Alpha is annoying the crap out of us now...I have not "activated" it, as it keeps requesting, but it can not be removed either, by using the control panel/software removal program. When I try to remove it in this manner, it tells me I must first activate the program to remove it. I am not willing to do that at this juncture! It just constantly has it's pop-ups popping up asking us to activate or run a sweep. For now I just keep clicking on "remind me later"....

I need some help....please!
Thank you so much in advance!

hi,

Just one to pick your brains, I rig is ned of some updating, I hav a E6700 (not great but when I bought it it was the bee's knee!) paired with two geforce 8800gt XFX alpha dog xxx editions in SLI, juicey, yep, hot, always!! however I know the processor is in need of updateing but my question is how about the graphics cards? is it worth it or even cost effective to update with a more modern card or does the sli on 8800 work well enough, would I really see a huge difference (abet the electricty bill) if I went for a newer model?

Any input would be great.

Thanks

A:How does two 8800gt XFX Alpha dog xxx in SLI compare with..

That kind of depends on what resolution you game at, what level of eye candy you're happy with in-game, what games you are playing and budget if you were to upgrade.
8800GT's in SLI are a pretty popular setup and give reasonable performance up to 1680x1050/1200 in most older games (DX9 and OpenGL mainly) but I think that 1920x1080 is a more than a little taxing on the cards, as are games built primarily with DX10 and 11 in mind.
You can get an idea of how your SLI stacks up against some of the newer (AMD) cards here -it's reasonably recent although you can probably add a little to the newer cards fps to allow for driver improvements

Opera just recently released the new Opera 10.10 browser with support for an entirely new technology (Opera Unite), and they are already on their way for 10.50 which bring almost an entirely new Opera experience.

Right after 10.10 release Opera has also made available alpha versions of 10.20 which includes support for running Opera Widgets as standalone applications, without requiring the browse to run.

A:HJT log - Aunt's computer - Mr Alpha

Hello Mr Alpha and welcome to the BC malware forum. I only see 1 issue here.

It appears that there are multiple anti-virus applications running on this computer. It is not recommended to have this because it can cause file access issues and if there is an infection the 2 programs can block each other from dealing with the infected file. I highly recommend that you choose which application you want to keep and uninstall the other one(s) to prevent these problems.

Cheers.

I've got a desktop at my office (Windows 7), with 3 monitors.  I'm in the finance world, so the extra monitor real estate is very helpful. I recently got a Switch Alpha 12 running Windows 10 for when I'm on the road, and I love it.  I use the USB to HDMI dongle to add an external monitor. My question is, for when I'm home, how many monitors could I use with this set up?  If I added a USB hub and multiple USB to HDMI dongles, could I get 3 monitors?  Or does it not have the graphics horsepower? Thanks!

Well, it has yet to be announced, but it looks like a formality if they've already posted it on OSU.

Remember, it's not the final product. It is aimed at testers but anyone can use it, at their own risk. Having said that, the last Alpha release worked almost perfectly for me.

Sorry, I borrowed shelley's thread title - because I have a similar problem, but different.

When I open any folder the contents are in reverse alphabetical order. I can "Arrange Icons by Name..." and get them in correct order until I restart the computer, then they revert back to reverse order.
I have done this arrange deal thru Control Panel's Folder Options and applied to all folders, and have gone thru every individual folder seperately - only to have all changes reversed when I boot up.

As an added bonus Windows will not remember my preference in window sizing, either. I like "medium" windows when I have a lot of them open, but XP insists on maximizing them (again, this is after I have resized everything - then upon a fresh bootup everything I open goes full screen).

Now, even if I arrange every folder in correct order, if I use a program that bring up a windows directory choice, that also is bass-ackwards.

Example: trying to "Save As.." from any program may result in a window such as this:

<img src= "http://forums.techguy.org/attachment.php?s=&postid=833926 ">

Reverse alpha should be evident.

Anyway, I thought there might be a registry key change that might solve this, I am comfortable with regedits ( shudder) as long as I have proper instructions
