I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Is there a Windows 10 Driver for the HP ZR2740w monitor that will provide a resolution of something more than 1280x720? We are currently using a DVI connection from a docking station to the monitor. Thanks.

A:Windows 10 Driver for HP ZR2740w Monitor

@SpaceCoast Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! The only monitors that need drivers are those that have embedded USB ports, or other such ports that need drivers. I see you're running Win10. Did the PC come preinstalled with Win10? Or, did you upgrade it from a prior OS to Win10?This is important as PC that were updates from prior OSs are often stuch with the generic video drivers that MS provides during the Upgrade, and if that is your situation, it's a video driver problem, not a monitor problem. If you did Upgrade your PC to Win10, please provide the detailed product number so we can check for HP Win10 drivers for it. We can proceed when you provide the answers.

Ok - First off Im using a 32" Dynex TV as a monitor, hooked in through a VGA port on the TV. When I start my computer the screen jumps around and it says 'detecting signal', settles on 640x480 during boot When windows 7 starts to open it jumps again for a moment and goes to 1366x768 (the right setting for it) I was playing Metro 2033 and its too slow in 1366 so I reduced it to 1024x768 which apparently the TV cant do, it just went black, so it reset to 1366. I was trying various resolutions, some were too wide too skinny etc and accidentally clicked on 1024 again, screen went black and this time didnt revert. I restarted my computer and now after the 640 phase in boot it doesnt go to 1366 like it should but at the opening to windows 7 where you put in your password it switches to 1024, after it jumps to adjust a few times it goes black like in the game.. it tells me detecting signal (normal) then no signal detected (which is what it tells me if I have it on say component 1 with my xbox 360 turned off, or video 1 with my dvd player off, or even VGA with the computer off for that matter)

What Ive tried:
I tried turning the monitor off and on to see if I could adjust the settings back while it was adjusting before going black, but it just stays black...

I started up in safe mode, which was 800x600 and it was ugly but worked, I tried resetting the resolution but it only gave the base options (640, 800, 1024, 1280) and that was only for safe mode, it didnt hold when I ... Read more

A:monitor resolution issue - can I change my resolution from outside windows??

does the Nvidia card have any software which could manage screen resolutions? If so you can try that in safe mode....

Also, tap F8 on startup, but instead of safe mode chose "enable VGA mode" which should cause windows to boot normally, but in 800x600 (or something of the like, that just about all monitors and TV's support)

Hi all,

So I'm creating a program for a friend but we are having trouble trying to display things in a 1280 x 1024 resolution.

Is there any way to create a custom resolution on my laptop or monitor of 1280 x 1024? Our monitors don't have this resolution listed in the display settings, or is this a driver issue?

Cheers,
StubbyHS

A:How to change the monitor resolution to a custom resolution

The resolution availability can be affected due to the graphics card installed. I will have a think about any other factors which may affect the resolution.

Native Resolution for my monitor is 1366 x 768. It's a 32 inch computer monitor. The reason for buying bigger screen for the computer is so that I can have more desktop display area so that I don't have to scroll horizontally to have a clear helicopter view of my subject.

Only then I was made to understand that I am actually restricted by the monitor resolution and hence though my graphic card can support higher resolution, it won't work. So my problem right now is setting the graphic card with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 is giving me blurry images and text. The desktop display area is wide enough to satisfy my need but the blurring object is not acceptable.

My general question would be:
If the graphic card higher resolution doesn't help because it does not match the monitor, is there any smart software that can give me more desktop area with clarity given that resolution constraint? What other alternatives do I have without getting rid of my new monitor?

A:Graphic Card Resolution > Monitor Resolution

What graphics card do you have? Sounds like it is not powerful enough to fill the resolution you are looking for.

I have a dell laptop that has 1920x1080 resolution. However, i connect it to an external monitor that has 1920x1200 resolution. Basically almost everything i do is on my external monitor which acts as my main primary screen. Thus i do sometimes open some windows or drag a window or so to the other screen like youtube etc to the laptop screen which is the secondary monitor.

My issue at the moment is everything is way too big on the laptop screen. I want to have 1920x1080 resolution but its way too big. I googled what is my resolution on it and it shows 1536 x 864. Can someone tell me how to change this to 1920x1080? I googled what is my resolution on the external monitor and it does show 1920x1200 which is correct.

My external monitor which is my main monitor is fine at the moment with the 1920x1200. Its windows 10 but im assuming this should be very similar to windows 7 to fix this issue?

Q: zr2740w

I have an HP ZR2740w that is well out of warranty. The display will just randomly turn off. However, the computer still thinks the display is active. I then have to press the power button to remove the display among the active displays (I have a total of three). Sometimes, if you turn it off and back on again, it works right away. Other times you have to wait. Some times, it won't come back on at all.  This same problem happens no matter what input, no matter what computer is used. I have tried with three different computers, on three different operating systems, using both DVI and Displayport. The behavior is exactly the same.  Any suggestions on what I need to do to repair this would be greatly appreciated.

I wanted to reply to a previous question, but the thread was marked read-only, hence I am opening a new topic. On windows 7 x64, I installed SP54516 which upgraded without change to Windows 10 x64. In device manager, it seems the only drivers are "C:\windows\system32\drivers\monitor.sys" (which is Microsoft Windows 10 x64 standard monitor driver and "C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\HP_ZR2740w.icm (which is just a color profile). Just extract the folder "Files" from the patch (with Winzip, winrar of 7z) and point Device Manager to that location when installing/updating the driver.  Driver is version 1.0.0.0 with date 23-Mar-11.  While that is very old, it does not matter since it's just a color profile. Good luck, sorry for those who had trouble.Ewald

According to HP's website, the warranty just expired on the 15th. I had an accident last night, and scratched the surface of the display pretty badly. There is white showing through the scratch when black is displayed. I was wondering what my repair / replacement options are through HP support. Thank you.

Hi, I have an issue with the display port of a HP Elitebook G3 with Product ID L3C64AVIt does not recognize in anyway with a HP ZR2740w 27 inch screen. I have upgraded video drivers on laptop. Tried to find drivers for the display for Windows 10 Enterprise ( 64 bit ) with no results. The screen is ok since it works with an old laptop model HP Elitebook Folio 9470m and display port and Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit Note that the screen only has a HDMI connection and display cable.   The only result I was able to get is a quick image of the screen for 2 seconds. When checking screensettings in Windows 10, it does not get recognized at all. Any other solutions to this that can be helpful?

This is independent of the Operating System - I used Windows 7, Windows 8. When my laptop is docked but I attach the display port cable directly to the laptop it works without any problem. I have also realized that with other displays 23'' or 24'' the setup with the docking station works without a problem. So it has to be a cominbination between UltraSlim Docking Station and ZR2740w screen. Any advise what else should be tried?

Update:  After calling HP technical support I and being bounced among various clueless offshore tech support reps, I finally landed on the US-based workstation support department.  Justin looked up the problem and identified it as a known issue and is replacing my monitor cable with one that HP says will work.   Also, in the meantime there is a workaround that I had figured out.  If you don't use the displayport port on the ultraslim docking station but pug the cable directly into the computer it works fine.  There is some inconvienence associated with this as you have to plug it in every time you dock and unplug it every time you undock (and of course the cable always falls behind the desk while you are doing this), but it is okay as a solution while I am waiting for the new cable to arrive.  Will update this post after it arrives and report whether it works.

Recently built a desktop that uses a HD6870 card; a friend donated an old Aquos tv/monitor. Highest resolution available seems to be very low, 1366 x 768 - looks like a laptop resolution? Using the VGA adaptor connection btw.

Also got a PS3 hooked up; currently I use the component cables since the HDMI on that old tv/monitor is apparently from an older version of the standard (I get a "signal not compatible" message if I use the PS3's HDMI output).

As I suspect it's the hardware that's obsolete, I plan to get a new display. I'm interested in the following monitor: Samsung T23A350 23-Inch Class LED HDTV/Monitor - mainly because it says it's also tv/monitor, and I saw both HDMI and Full HD logos on the shop's display unit. I assume this means that display should be able to accommodate higher resolutions as well as allow my PS3 to be connected via HDMI rather than component cables.

Just wondering if anyone else has any experience with this particular model. Also wondering whether my resolution options are limited because of the driver, or maybe because I'm using the VGA connector instead of the HDMI one.

A:Monitor resolution, opinions on new monitor/tv

Sorry took me so long to update this, but the store I wanted to get it from hadn't any stock until last week. Price went down too so that was a sweet two birds with one stone for me. Btw using a VGA connector shouldn't matter, it can carry the high resolutions as well as I found out with my new tv/monitor.

Anyway, I'm as pleased as punch with my new unit. Crisp, HDMI, switches easily between the PC input and PS3 on the HDMI at the touch of the source button. The only two minor complaints I have is (1) it's pretty much entirely reliant on the remote control, so expect to have to replace the 2x AAA batteries someday, and (2) the stand is fixed, so the display unit can't swivel or tilt. Perhaps not a big deal, but as I have it mounted slightly above eye level it can get tiring to have to keep looking up at it all the time. Small price though, I've been working with laptops and crappy old monitors for so long the higher resolution it supports blows me away.

This tv/monitor combo gets a definite recommendation from me.

Edit:
Oops, forgot to mention, my problem with the old display was that it was basically a TV - sure, it took PC input, but it was designed as a TV so it only supported laptop resolution max (not to mention, now that I compare them, text was faintly blurry as well). No such issue with the TA350, it was designed with monitor input in mind so you get the lovely high resolutions your graphics card can output.

I have 2 24" monitors on my rig, both capable of 1920x1200. If I boot into Vista, they both work fine. In Win 7, there is a problem. I spent a long time connecting the first monitor to all 4 graphics ports, as wIn 7 would not give me any res higher than 1600x1200. After changing cables, and generally trying all I could, it eventually gave me my full res. The second monitor has the same problem, and I cannot get round it. All 3 spare ports seem to give the same res, if at all. I cant see any way to force a higher setting, and its driving me crazy. I tend to move betweens screens, or extend spreadsheets etc through the two, and I would really, really like to get the res the same.
As I say, Vista, has no problem, 7's new setup doesnt give me my option, and no force res. Any ideas? thanks

Rig spec as posted.

A:Monitor Resolution

I can only suggest a generality--when you can't get the resolution that a monitor can support it's usually a problem with the display card or its driver. You know the display card is OK so see exactly what driver is installed on your Vista system. Then make sure you have that driver, or a more up to date one, on the 7 system.

A:monitor resolution

Hi Irwin, and welcome to TSG.

It is possible that your computer hardware does not support that resolution or it does support it and you need a newer driver that supports the resolution.

If the computer is a big name brand and you are using the built-in video controller that came with the computer, the manufacturer's web site may have a support section that will allow you to download the correct driver for the given computer and operating system.

If you are using a video controller card that was added to the original computer, you may be able to find driver downloads from the card manufacturer's web site.

Otherwise, please give us the details on what kind of computer you have and what operating system it is running.

A:Monitor Resolution

Its the combination of graphics card and monitor that creates the screen view.

You will just have to either resize using your graphics card, some will allow you to save settings for particular games ( I don't know any games that suggest a resolution of 1280x968, mostly they go 640x480; 800x600; 1024x768; 1280x1024; 1600x1200)

A program such as powerstrip will give you greater control options, however unless you are a Virgo, let a little imperfection in!

Manually change the settings using your monitor on screen display controls and save the setting.

Hey all,

The other day i accidently set my tft lcd monitor past its native resolution...as a result the screen is blank and a message ' can not display screen resolution ' appears and i am stuck at the message until i shut down the pc and reboot. I can boot in safe mode no problem. I tried uninstalling the exisiting display driver within safe mode in device manager and booted up as normal. However xp detects the new hardware and automatically installs a display driver which seems to work, yet when i try and change the resolution to something higher then the default 640x480, like 1024x786 which my monitor is able to support I get a blue screen of death saying xp has shutdown to prevent hardware damage. I also tried to install the newest version of my display driver after removing them from device manager in safe mode, that also results in the same problem when I boot normally ( blue screen aftter changing resolution ). I also tried VGA mode which allows me to boot to the desktop normally, but if i change the resolution, i also get a blue screen of death. Yet in safe mode my monitor can display 1024x786 fine using a generic display driver.

Any help appreicated,

I am using the same Monitor I was when using my old XP laptop. It always went to the right resolution each time with it. I have tried to find new drivers for it but have been unsuccessful. here is my problem. When I plug in and start up in the morning it always comes up on the monitor long and narrow with a black band at top and bottom like the first pic(startup screen). If I turn monitor off and close laptop screen it will often come up like startup screen 2, the second pic. It looks right but is all over onthe left side of the monitor with the right quarter of the monitor black. I want it full width and height right off the bat. Sometimes I have to turn off monitor and open and close laptop a couple of times before it will be right. Any advice?

thanks

For the video card this may or may not work,

ATI Radeon

if it doesn't see what Dell has for your laptop (use your service tag number to look it up).

For the monitor is it being detected properly or is it showing as "generic PNP monitor"? If it is showing as "generic PNP monitor" check Windows Update and see if it offers a driver for the monitor. The one from Viewsonic,

Viewsonic ? Q22wb 20" LCD Monitor

may or may not work seeing as they have discontinued that model.

Also is the resolution of those screen shots what the monitor is running at, or did you resize them?

I reformatted my Dell laptop and lost my ability to change my monitor resolution. When I go to control panel and display the only option available is medium. Clicking on advance is no help either. Any suggestion? Right now the screen I have fills less than a 6" area and I have a 12" monitor. Help!!!!!

You need to go to the Dell website and dowload and install the proper and latest video driver driver for this laptop

After installing a new sound card in my system (a 5 year old NEC running Win98SE) I reboot only to find my monitors resolution is stuck on 16 colors and screen area 640x480. When I go to Properties-settings, I no longer even have the 32 bit colors option and the screen size only goes up to 1024x768. Even then if I try to adjust the settings (and then restart so they take effect) I still have the low resolution--no change. Any thoughts on what I need to do?? This won't cut it like it is now!!

Hello, This started yesterday. What happens is, every time I boot into Vista the resolution is different than it should be. It is 1600 x 1200 instead of 1680 x 1050. So then I have to change it back to normal. This isn't too bad of a problem it is just kind of annoying .

Does anyone know how to help?

A:Monitor Resolution

When you change it to 1680x1050 do you get any warnings about it being out of range for either the monitor or the video card ?

Hi, I just reinstalled Windows XP pro after a system wipe and can no longer get the resolution right on my monitor. I have an 18" Acer X183H, and everything is stretched too wide. This includes videos on media player. None of the resolution settings match what it was before the wipe. Can anyone help?

I have had this hp 2711x monitor for a few years now, and the resolution setting has been perfect. Then a few weeks ago the resolution changed to 1024x769 by itself and is listed as generic non-pnp monitor. I tried to change it back to the usual resolution but I cant change it back. I have tried to force set it using nvidias tool but to no avail. I plugged my tv into it and it was fine so i plugged my monitor back into the computer and then it went back to the right resolution but when i turned the computer off the resolution went back to 1024x768 and I cant figure this out at all. I have a evga 560ti card and I have tried downloading other drivers too. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Try uninstall from Device Manager and also unplug power of monitor for a minute or two.

Hi - I'm having problems changing my monitor resolution so I'm hoping someone might have a fix.

I recently had to reload windows 95 due to a registry file being corrupted. Anyway, I ended-up reloading all of my hardware including an AOC Spectrum 5Vlr monitor and a STB Velocity 128 video card.

I'm running well, but when I try to change my screen resolution to anything but 600X480(?) my screen gets all jumbled. Prior to having to reload win 95, I got all kinds of different screen resolution options that worked fine. Any advice on how to correct this issue?

Thanks in advance!

You may be able to fix this with a simple video card driver. Go to the manufactuers website and download the correct one. Also, try using a different monitor. If it works at different resoloutions, then your monitor is the problem

Hi I'm new to this forum and could use some help with a problem.

I did updates and changed monitor resolution... now I can't see my desktop???

running windows XP home on a dell GX270
I have an old gateway monitor and was changing the resolution,
then restarted the computer after the updates were done.
when it re-stared I saw the start up screen and heard the music windows opens with but I can't see my desktop (I know its there) I just can't see it?

I have tried to go into safe mode but after I select safe mode all I get is a black&white screen with what looks like lines of different commands, things like this....

multi(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\windows\system32\c_1252.nls
multi(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\windows\system32\Drivers\ksecDD.sys

and nothing happens so I restarted the computer...go back into <F8> and try another option but nothing wants to work.

I have also connected a newer monitor to the hard drive but it still does the same thing when I turn it on.

please dose anyone know what I can do to solve this problem?

thanks,

Hello and Welcome to Techspot!

Does your computer have integrated video? If it does, try connecting your monitor to it.

Just finished re-installing XP Professional after reformatting due to virus. I have a dell lapton D620 and external monitor. When I went to change the resolution in Display Properties - Monitor there is only the default monitor. When I try and change the resolution I get D-Sub cannot display this mode.

You'll have to pick a resolution that the monitor will support.

You will have more options if all your drivers are installed. Start with the chipset and then install all the other hardware on your machine. Look in Device Manager.

hi well im getting a upgraded ram(memory) from crucial.com and i need my resolution to be higher would that make the resolution be higher?
or do i need to get a bigger monitor i have i think a 15 inch and i was just wondering if updating something in my computer would just make the resolution better or if i should purchase a bigger monitor?

thank you

A:monitor resolution

Unfortunately ram will not change the resolution.

The video card sets the resolution, so you may want to upgrade that. But monitors also have a limit. So if you had a brand new video card, depending on how powerful it is, your monitor may not be able to display all the resolution options that the card offers.

When I am online with SBCYahooDial and with a troubleshooting trial with Earthlink, the images (photos) are grainy and not sharp. Images @ www.cnn.com are also grainy and blurry. Install installing a newer version SBCYahoo disc showed that it required 800x600 resolution. I cannot reset the resolution on my CRT and also on a 15" LCD flat panel display. Can I achieve 800x600 with a new video card?

My friend has the same video card as mine and he is able to use 1152 res on his computer. I really would like to use that resolution even if my monitor only would support it at 60hz. My video card is Intel 82845G Controller something. I will be getting a much higher better computer in a few months or so then I will be more sadisifyed but with the computer I have now I don't know if there's just a certain driver that includes that res with it cause my friend's card lets him use it so I should beable too.

Hi,

Here is an unusual problem with a Dell Latitude D510 laptop and a new AOC F22 monitor: When the two are connected, the highest available monitor resolution in XP SP3 is 1440 x 900. However, when running Ubuntu or Granular Linux on the same machine the full 1920 x 1080 monitor resolution works fine. Upgrading to Win7 didn't help, nor did updating the video driver through Microsoft's online update service.

I've installed the latest Dell drivers and the AOC driver in XP, but to no avail. The Dell drivers have a program for changing monitor resolution, which lists the highest supported monitor resolution as 1920 x 1080, but doesn't give an option to select that setting. The graphics chipset is by Intel, but their generic driver won't install on this laptop, saying it needs a custom driver from the laptop manufacturer.

Oddly enough, when I connect the laptop to a friend's Gateway 1680 pixel monitor XP jumps up to that resolution. And when he plugs his laptop running Win7 into the AOC monitor it goes to full 1920 resolution.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, especially how to tell XP to shift to higher resolution.

Thanks.

How do you fix the display on a flat screen monitor when Internet Explorer will not cover the width of the screen? The monitor is set at the highest resolution. This narrow view happened on my husband's monitor and we have no idea how to resolve the issue. He is using Vista Home Premium and is using an analog flat screen monitor. He said he hit some key one day and it happened and he has no idea what he did. Changing the resolution does not solve the issue.

Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

Hello,

Just got a new 22" Monitor.
Apparently it is capable of 1920 x 1080 resolution.

If I select that resolution in the Control panel, all the Folder icons and everything else becomes quite small.

If I go down to 1600 x 900, everything looks just fine.

Any way of using the higher resolution, and not have everything look so small ?

Bob

A:Monitor Resolution ?

Bob, right click any where on a blank area of the desktop, hover the mouse on VIEW and change the setting for what size you want the icons to be.
