I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there, Eddie -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Automatic Repair usually kicks in if there's a problem loading up the files that's required to start Windows. If the repair was interrupted and the screen just goes into a black screen then there's most likely a hardware component that's malfunctioning.

To check, try to:

Boot into the BIOS by pressing the OneKey Recovery button

- Link to picture

If successful, set the following settings in the BIOS:

Security Tab:
Secure Boot = Disabled

Boot Tab:
UEFI = Disabled or Legacy
Boot Mode = Legacy
Boot Priority = Legacy First
Exit Tab

OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS or Disabled

When done, press F10 (or Fn+10) to save and exit and try to boot from your Windows CD

If you're successful in booting from the Windows Disc, see Step 1 to Step 2 of this guideon how to proceed in fixing the issue.
If the problem remains, consider re-installing Windows by pressing the OneKey Recovery button and choose System Recovery

- Link to picture

In an event that the recovery fails, I recommend you contact Lenovo and report the issue as you may need to send the unit for service.

Update us how it goes.

Hi Zeropatience50 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

After trying all advance recovery options and that you are willing to start fresh, you may want to factory restore it.
One Key Recovery (page 20) can be launch by pressing the Novo button (item8 page 74) while the pc is off to power on. Novo Menu should appear to offer System Recovery , one key recovery from initial backup.

Hoping that the harddisk / OKR image is still viable , things should proceed as plan .
Else check on this option:
Booting to Recovery Environment with Windows 8/8.1 installation media or Recovery Drive/System Repai...

Hope this helps.
Update us how it goes for you.

Hi,Since a few months I have a lenovo G595s with Windows 8 installed, the thing is I don't know much over computers, but last tuesday I was just working and my laptop was next to me without any task, and somehow when I was going to reuse the computer I wasn't able because the screen where all the apps are was frozen, so I tried with CTR ALT DELETE nothing happened, then I just turn it off, and since it only goes on with the Lenovo logo, in the under part says or appears Preparing automatic repair and like 1 min later it goes completely in black without turning off.I tried el the F keys at the beggining of the start, in the middle, with a windows CD as well, but I just don't get access to the BIOS or any other configuration, only black screen, doesn't matter how long I leave it on.If somebody could help me to find out what is happening with the computer.Thank you a lot

Since (automatically) downloading a windows 10 update and restarting twice, my laptop has refused to boot up. It won't boot normally, and using the novo button either gives me boot/BIOS/setup options, or sends me to windows repair, though I have to spend anywhere bewteen 10-60 minutes looking at the lenovo logo before this actually happens. I've tried a number of different bios and boot changes to no avail (though I will admit that I've been following advice fromforums etc, and not all of them match up to what I'm seeing on my own screen). Attempting any of the Windows repair options just restarts the computer and ends up back at windows repair. Going back to the previous version fails, as does attempting to repair problems. Changing restart options dosn't actually let me (dis)able anything from that screen, and instead says that it will let me upon restarting (it doesn't). I've also drained my battery (until even the LED battery doesn't flash when attempting to turn on), unplugged my laptop, and held the power button for 10, 20, and 30 seconds. I don't have any restore points saved and I really don't want to do a clean install or a system reset, as I have a couple of weeks worth of work that I would really like to save (I try and backup once a month, more fool me I suppose). I don't really care about fixing this laptop as it's done this after only a little over a year (the fastest I've ever had a laptop fail!). What I really want is to get ... Read more

A:lenovo G505s stuck in a 'diagnosing your pc' then 'preparing automatic repair' loop

Hi heidihamed  ,

Welcome to the Community Forums .

On a Windows boot loop , it would be an advantage if it can proceed on windows advance options for repair options.
Avoid any option for factory recovery since those would delete your files.

Initially turn off your pc and remove the battery and charger .
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds and release to drain remaining current.
Put back the battery and charger and use the Novo key (item5 page 4) to turn it on .
Choose  BIOS setup and press F9 for loading defaults , F10 to save and exit
How was it?

If the advance options showed up then we can proceed with troubleshoot and system restore that would allow you to just go back to a previous date before the problem with you keeping your files.

You may also create a repair image to help fix it from a different pc with same WIndows version.

Final option should be One key recovery  (page27) but this would delete your files so usually best that you try backing your files via harddrive enclosure and attach the harddrive on a different pc .
Else booting to a rescue media can help with back ups too.

Update us how things would go.

Regards

What i have tried: the keyboard is also unresponsive, bcz i held down a bunch of keys to see if it makes the beep noise. I closed the laptop lid to see if it goes into hibernation and waited 3 mins to see if it still does, so that when i open it i can see everything (it has worked before). nothing. i rebooted a bunch of times even with a second screen attached, tried to guess switch into projector mode with my function key and switch s... A:Lenovo Ideapad Y560 "black screen in boot up after windows 7 logo"

Sounds like a corrupted file system, so try running chkdsk.

How to run System File Checker (SFC) or chkdsk from the Recovery ConsoleBoot your Vista or Windows 7 installation DVD
When you see "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD", press Enter
At the "Install Windows" screen, click on Repair your computer at lower left
At the System Recovery Options screen, make note of the drive letter assigned to your boot drive (normally C and click Next
At the Chose a Recovery Tool window, click on Command Prompt. You will be sitting at X:\Sources directory
Run SFC or chkdskIf you did not note the drive letter of your boot disk, you can enter bcdedit and look at the osdevice line to see what it is.
For sfc, type sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows and press Enter (use the letter from above)
For chkdsk, type chkdsk c: /r and press Enter (use the letter from above).

Let either run to completion undisturbed.

After having a new fan installed two weeks ago, my computer has randomly become unresponsive at times with only the mouse cursor being able to move. Until now powering the computer back up again has "fixed" the problem. The fan had been required, on top of a full reinstall of Windows, which had cost enough to make me feel content with this method for now.

Tonight, however, I had the same problem but, after powering it on and off (since restarting it always just got me stuck in the BIOS screen) I find myself stuck on a black screen that follows Windows telling me that it is preparing an automatic repair.

I've tried restarting it but nothing stops it continually ending up on that screen. Even if I can get back onto the desktop, I expect I'll end up having to call someone to see what's causing everything to become unresponsive.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I just had to chime in here.  I just spent the last 5 days fighting this with a Lenovo U530 Ultrabook Ideapad. I could not even get the machine to boot to a bootable Windows 10 USB stick or a bootable Windows PE USB that had some drive recovery software on it.  Although it would boot to the Lenovo Diagnostics that I downloaded from Lenovo on a USB stick and it would also boot to Tails (Linux distro) on a USB stick. I know the machine was crashing because when it would get stuck, I would try to push the Caps Lock on and off and the light didn't change.  During boot kept pushing the Caps Lock it would toggle then freeze after a few seconds. I took the hard drive out and put it in another Lenovo U530 I had at my disposal and it worked fine so I know that the hard drive was working.  The hard drive seemed to be in  some state of a patial update to Windows 10 so that probably caused the initial problem. I was trying to figure out how to flash the BIOS since I though maybe it had been corrupted somehow but wasn't figuring out how to get that done without being in Windows.  The BIOS flash from Lenovo seemed to be dependent on some .NET framework.  Anyway I ran across a video where a guy explained that he had a Lenovo that was acting similar so he opened it up and unplugged the battery and plugged it back in and it fixed it. I was skeptical but figured I hadn't anything to lose and voila it worked.... unbeivable... Here... Hi Startan, welcome to the TSG Forums....

Is the laptop still under warranty?

If "yes" then I suggest you contact HP. No point in messing around with something that is under warranty.

If "no" then try booting into Safe Mode. You should also connect the laptop to the mains electricity supply so as to ensure that you have a good source of power.

I bought this laptop 1 year ago and it's been 2 or 3 days since this message appeared on the screen and I let it "repair" for over 10 hours, then the screen became black and I couldn't use it. Since then It doesn't boot.
Every time I restart it, I see "Asus" and "Preparing automatic repair", after about 30 seconds the screen turns black.
I've been trying literally anything, I can't change the battery because it is inside the 'hard case' (I don't know how to call it) I don't care about the files, I just need the laptop.
I've also tried to reset W10 using a USB 3.0 and Create Windows 10 installation media from the official site, even entering the BIOS: nothing works.
It can recognize the Usb as a device, but the consequences are the same (even though the Asus logo appears and "Preparing automatic repair" doesn't).
I really don't know. I wish I could find something to solve this without going to the experts.
Sorry for my English.

Hi BETH1445,
What is the exact system model? What is the current OS installed on the system?
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional. Also, run an extended / thorough tests on the HDD and memory to check for any possible errors.
If you encounter any HDD related errors, then you the HDD needs to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

For the past several months I have been having problems with my HP desktop computer. When my system reboots I sometimes get a black screen with nothing on it or it gets stuck on the windows logo or I get a blue screen with a bunch of writing.

The blue screen tends to happen with the computer goes into hibernation. So I changed my settings to that it doesn't happen but I would like to fix that so that I can give my computer a rest during the time that I'm not using it.

I have checked for malware, viruses you name it... nothing.

HP HPE-180t
Windows 7 SP1
Intel core i7 930 @2.80GHz
9.00 GB RAM
Kaspersky Internet Security 2013

If you need further info please let me know. ;)
ps I had wonderful support several years ago regarding my laptop.. thank you once again :)

The best way to do this is to simply turn it off; it will also save on the electricty bills too.
When I am not using my machine, I turn it off, because here in South Australia we have the second highest electricity charges in the world.

Can you tell us what the blue screen says; usually this is due to a recent hardware or software change; however, in your instance it might be the Hibernation feature that is malfunctioning.
Post back with the information about the blue screen, please.

Kind Regards,

I'm having some serious troubles with my main PC, my gaming PC, and it's really messing things up for me.

I was just parusing around like usual on my computer, it runs Windows 7, and I allowed it to download the usual updates and restart itself. When it shut down and began restarting, I notice that it loads up the logo, briefly flashes what I think is called a Bios Post page, and then goes to a page that is nothing but a blinking "__" sign. It does nothing here, won't continue, and I can't enter or do anything. It just endlessly blinks, before disappearing and the computer screen shows nothing but black.

Can I get some help here? I'd really appreciate it. .___.

Have you tried to start in "Safe Mode" to see what happens? (Pressing F8 repeatedly immediately upon booting).

hello.  When I restart the computer after a Hibernate (Windows 10) the computer sometime the computer stall at the Lenovo boot screen.  I updated all the firmware and software available in Companion. There is a reason for that ?

A:ThinkPad P70 is stuck at Lenovo logo screen after Hibernate

Do you have the latest BIOS?

Do you authenticate through a domain controller?  Where is network boot in the boot order?

A:Preparing automatic repair - stuck - Desktop won't load Windows, stuck at BIOS

Quote:

- While doing all this and when the problem started I monitored all the temperatures with the digital monitor. VGA, CPU, and everything else was not hot at all. CPU never passed 80 celcius, average was maybe 75 celcius for example.

80C while in the BIOS? That is not fine at all, something isn't cooling that processor correctly.

I would recommend taking the heat sink off and reapplying the thermal paste. Then reseat the cooler.

A:Lenovo G50-30 : getting black screen after lenovo logo

Hi zoheb_syed ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Doing factory reset would delete everything and repartitioned with new Windows on it just like out of the box .
Lenovo splash screen is a good sign that power goes in the computer and the devices required for a working machine.
For as long as you back up your files , try doing the Lenovo Restore using the Novo key (no.2 page 9).
Just turn off the pc and use the Novo button to turn it on . Novo menu would give the System Recovery

Soon as done , create a local account and proceed.
If it goes to a black screen during the process , I recommend you call in tech support for repair.
Most likely there would be a problem with the GPU since rendering on Windows failed.
You can also check the display on any external monitor to see if the display would work externally to isolate LCD or cable issue .
If the computer finish up with the restoration then run Lenovo diagnostics.

Tech support can give you repair options or if BIOS update is neccessary .
Best check on your warranty for the type of repair service you would expect (either sending to depot or Onsite repair)
Considering the turn around time of the repair , which I know that you need it on a daily basis for work  Try above step and let us see how it works.

Hope this helped you get things done on your issue.

Regards

I just got my X1 carbon today. The major problem is that the CPU is overheating. It can easily reach to 90 degrees or even higher. (I already used XTU undervolted the cpu) The fan is always on and a little bit noisy if using the laptop even for performing some simple tasks such as open a web. It will turn so hot that i won't even able to reset my hand on the right side of the keyboard above the air outlet (the area next to "enter"). Since it is a new system, i need to restart it after updating and installing some apps. The system stuck at Lenovo logo screen during restarting a few times already. I think it was due to overheating. Long press the power bottom and restart it will solve the problem.
