Preferred Solution: Acer aspire 5515 laptop-keyoard n touchpad will not work once it its the lgin screen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It worked fine this morning. I usually close the laptop screen, it goes into hibernation, then when I open it again it comes back to where I left it. I placed it into my laptop bag for a carryon and flew to the other end of the country today, Opened the laptop and it wouldn't power on. It had a flashing amber light indicating hibernation. Per a friend's advice, I took out the battery and left it be for an hour. I put the battery back in and hooked up the power supply but still doesn't turn on. The light now is a continuous green. Went online and tried to find a solution. One was to remove the battery and power supply, press power switch for about 40 seconds, and then try to power the laptop just using the power supply and no battery installed. This still didn't work for me. I then placed the battery back in and it still doesn't power up. PLEASE HELP.

With the battery out and the laptop plugged in, how long are you holding down the power button? It may take several seconds.

Hello. My acer aspire 5515 has the black screen of death. It happened after using the erecovery. Anyway, I've been trying to find specific instructions for my model to flash the bios using a USB. The only tutorials that I've found are mostly for acer aspire one notebooks. I have another laptop that I've been using to download the bios from the acer website...I tried to flash using the instructions from the manual for my 5515 but it's apparent that I'm doing something wrong since my notebook never boots and still has a black screen. Here are the instructions for my notebook:

Steps for BIOS Recovery from USB Storage: Before doing this, prepare the Crisis USB key. The Crisis USB key could be made by executing the Crisis Disk program in another system with Windows XP OS. Follow the steps below: 1.Save ROM file (file name: JAL90x64.fd) to the root directory of USB storage. 2.Plug USB storage into USB port. 3.Press Fn + ESC button then plug in AC. The Power button flashes once. 4.Press Power button to initiate system CRISIS mode. When CRISIS is complete, the system auto restarts with a workable BIOS. 5.Update the latest version BIOS for this machine by regular BIOS flashing process.
Also, I'm confused about how to make my USB(4gb) bootable...is there anything 'special' that i have to do to it first? Do I need to rename the ROM file or keep it as is? Which bios files do I need to copy to my USB? Is there some sort of download such as '... Read more

my acer aspire is not booting.when i power on,on black screen it shows
only microsoft corporation symbol and the bar is running like to begin boot.but it continue the same for continuously.can any one help?

A:acer aspire 5515

Do you have the original Windows CD? You can press the DEL button as it's booting and see if you can get into the BIOS. Once in there, see if it is set to boot from CD first. Once that is set, restart the system with the original Windows CD in it. As it goes through the start-up, you'll eventually come to a screen where you can select REPAIR. Select that. It will eventually bring you to a command console window. If it asks you for the Administrator password, just press ENTER. If it hasn't been set, you'll be taken to a command prompt.

Once you're at the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r" (without the quotation marks". Reboot and see if it comes up normally. If it doesn't, reboot again from the CD and get back to the REPAIR option and when you get to the command prompt, type "fixboot" and then try rebooting again.

In the event THAT doesn't work, reboot from the CD once more, get back to the REPAIR option, get back into the command console and type "fixmbr".

Let me know if that works for you.

I started your own thread for you here, as that post is not going to be of any help in the thread to which you posted.

If the wireless card is easily accessible through a small cover on the laptop bottom look to see if one is there and make sure it is secure.

Laptop is an Acer Aspire 4730z with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, fully updated to current.

I installed an update to Avast's engine, and after rebooting, when I got to the Windows logon screen, both the mouse buttons on both the built-in Synaptics touchpad and an external USB mouse will only select an item, but nothing else happens. In other words, if I click on a user account, it selects it but it doesn't allow me to enter a password. Likewise, if I click on the shutdown icon at the lower right of the screen, it just selects it but nothing else happens.

But, I found that if I hit the tab key and then the enter key to select something on this screen, then the left mouse button starts working again on the touchpad and the USB mouse..

When I get into windows, the left mouse button on both the built-in touchpad and the external mouse continue to work, but the right mouse button on the built-in touchpad doesn't work. However, the right mouse button on the USB mouse works.

I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this:
- uninstalled Avast (I'm now using MSE as the anti-virus on this machine)
- uninstalled and re-installed the drivers for both mouse devices multiple times, using different versions (for the touchpad, one set of drivers from Acer, another set from Synaptics)
- uninstalled the Synaptics device from device manager and let windows reinstall it upon reboot
- updated the drivers within device manager (it didn't find any that were more curr... Read more

I've already tried resetting battery, ive tried holding power button and doing hard reset... I've made sure it wasn't a backlight issue by testing screen with bright flash light... Only thing I haven't tried is flashing BIOS but from what I read that is only necessary on older modle Apire One's... Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks in advance!!!

You're doing all the right things but instead of just tapping the mic, I suggest you try sitting beside a radio or othe rmusical output and then repeat the experiment. If you still don't hear anything afterwards, post back as to whether or not the system invites you to save the file when you close the utility. I just tried this on my old Toshiba with built-in mic and it worked for me.

I know it's possible that the speaker itself is just blown, but is there any way that it could be a software/driver issue? Supposedly this laptop uses AC97 drivers from Realtek. I have attempted to install Acer's audio drivers from their website for the 5000 series (they didn't have one specifically for the 5003wlmi) and I've also downloaded generic drivers directly from Realktek. No luck.

Any ideas?

A:Acer Aspire laptop - grey screen

If you connect it to an external monitor and get the same problem, then it is more likely driver or graphics card hardware related, probably not an issue with the actual laptop screen. Unfortunately this can make diagnosis harder without physically getting hands on it.

How old is the laptop?
What is the exact model?

Firstly, this is the worst navigable forum I have ever encountered in 35 years of computing.  I have no idea if my question relates to this "board" but I'll give it a try, perhaps someone can direct me to a "board" that is relevant.  I have an Acer Aspire 7720 laptop that one day whilst trying to play "Oblivion" on the highest graphics settings went "weird in the screen".  The image disappeared, the screen went kinda milky, and changed slowly from one mess to another.  I opened the laptop up and found that the heatsinks and fan were full of dust, I cleaned that out but it seemed that the damage had already been done (this was 5 years ago).   I tried using an external monitor but that didn't work.  I tried removing the old paste and rebedding the CPU and graphics card in nice cool Arctic5 but that didn't work.  I'm guessing the graphics card has "gone wrong" (burnt to death by my dust) and needs to be replaced.  So, in essence, my question is - does anyone know where I can buy a replacement graphics card FROM ACER.  The Acer shop on this site has nothing over one week old! - with no "Help my old laptop has died - NEED PARTS" option.  I could try Ebay but you know as well as I do that MY graphics card looks FINE on the outside.  Oh yes forgot - ?

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can tell me what's going on with our Acer laptop..

Turn it on and we get a blue screen saying the following

STOP: OXOOOOOO7E (OXCOOOOOO5, OX8OCF8640, OX88183554, OX88183250

acpi.sys-Address 80CF8640 base at 80CDE000, Datestamp 4549adb7

Also sometimes goes to a black screen saying repair, click repair and it just keeps going back the the same screen, can't even start it in safe mode.

not had it long so if I can't fix it myself then I'll take it back but would like an idea what's going on!
Acer didn't supply a disc with it, it's all preinstalled and the operating system is vista home premium.

cheers susan

Now that when I put in my password to sign in, it takes so long and says "Welcome" with the loading icon for maybe 5 minutes then the Welcome will go off and it'll only be the loading icon for another 5 minutes and it'll log on but it'll just go to a black screen, or else it'll look like it'll go into sleep mode for a second and bring me back to putting in my password again. I can't manually turn off my computer it just goes into sleep mode I have to shut it down on the computer not the power button on the keyboard(If that makes sense) Please can someone help me with this problem? I know my password but I don't know if it wants my current password or Gmail password to sign in I tried both but it brings me to the black screen sometimes it'll just stay like that and not turn on, or it has a glow on the sides of the screen. I am sorry in advanced if I made this difficult/confusing to understand but I was trying to word all of this together and tried my best.  If anyone has any opinions on how to get this off and to show my desktop screen or Windows 10. I have a Acer Aspire one Cloudbook 14 if that helps. I am still searching the internet on using Command prompt, last I checked I read something the BIOS password was changed and has to be changed or something I'm not sure I looked at it this morning but couldn't fully read it since I was rushing to get in the car... Have a new Acer Laptop Aspire ES1-511-C59V and the screen keeps dimming then brightening especially when on battery power. Newest thing is when plugged in it will beep and dim every few minutes, what the heck? I tried to adjust it doing this.... it did not help.

1) type Power Options and select it on the right.2) Then look over to the right on Power Options screen and you should have a power plan selected, probably "Balanced".
3) Select Change Plan settings.
4) Down at the bottom of "Edit Plan Settings" select Advanced Power Settings"
5) Scroll down until you find display and expand it
6) Find Enable adaptive brightness and expand.
7) I set mine selection to off for both On Battery and Plugged in.
8) Apply, Ok

thanks for any assistance, I am unfamiliar with Windows 8/8.1

Sounds like there is an issue with your power adapter. If covered by the warranty, send it back.

My screen went black after long transportation and is probably physically broken.
Unfortunately during several attempts to upgrade windows 8.1 to 10 the Intel graphic driver was inactivated so I can no longer use laptop with neither hdmi nor vga cable.

I've tried to remove cmos battery in order to reset BIOS without success.
Also tried to flash BIOS Q5WV1221.exe file from a USB-stick (fat32) pressing Fn + Esc + power button without success.

Would it activate Intel Graphic driver to flash BIOS with USB-stick? How is that done?
Any suggestions how to activate Intel Graphic driver with a totally black screen?

Hello.
I have an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop with Windows XP Media Center Edition. This past weekend, I tried to upgrade to 4GB of RAM. After replacing the old RAM sticks with the new, I am getting nothing but a black screen after turning on my laptop. The mouse and keyboard I usually keep plugged in the USB ports do not work. There is no sound, nor does any monitor that I've tried hooking up to my Acer display anything as well. I've tried every key combination I could come in mind with, but nothing works. I can't access the BIOS, nor anything else. The HDD indicator light flashes green for only a few seconds after powering up the laptop. I'm not for certain if the laptop keyboard is functioning either. I'm unable to turn the NUM LOCK on or off. The CD/DVD drive runs normally, I assume. I'm able to pop in a disc and can hear it running normally. I've also tried placing the old RAM I had previously used back in the laptop, but there is still no change.
I've run out of options and am curious if anyone here would be able to assist me. Your help is much appreciated.
Thank you.

If adding the old RAM doesn't change the way it behaves there is another issue.

When you added the RAM, did it involve stripping the laptop down? Or simply removing a cover on the underside of the laptop?

If it involved a strip down, it sounds to me like the video connector has been disturbed, or not been reconnected, hence you cannot see anything as the display is not powering up.

Obviously if you didn't strip it down there is another issue.

Hi
So I own an Acer 7741G laptop and at a certain point, while shutting down, I had to shut it down using the power button because it was stuck somewhere.
- At first I could only use it in safe mode. When I tried normal mode it just stopped and went back to the startup screen (the one in which you choose the start up mode (normal, safe, safe with network etc...)).
- After that the laptop screen went black and I could only work with an external monitor from that point (coincidence? i don't know). Still the same thing: only in safe mode.
- While doing stuff in safe mode I suddenly only saw snow so I had to shut it down with the power button again.

Now I can only power my laptop on (all lights are burning correctly) but black laptop screen, black external monitor + the fact that it still only works in safe mode)

Any advice would come in handy considering these multiple problems
I never had problems with this laptop uptil now (own it for 2-3 years)
big thanks in advance

Hi, I'm new to this so am hoping i give all the correct information regarding my problem.

Windows Defender popped up earlier on informing me of a trojan and asking if it was to be removed, i said yes and continued on my merry way, installing a game, when i started to get lots of pop-ups, i closed them all and then had another 4 or so trojans discovered on my computer, so thought a restart, as i'd been told by WD, would be the best bet. My game had just installed when my puter turned itself off and since then, all i got was a looping blue screen and the screen that says to repair or start normally, if i choose repair, it comes back to the same screen, if i choose normal, it goes straight to the blue screen.

I have downloaded, on mothers pc, a vista recovery disc, done F8 and changed to boot from cd/dvd drive and now i'm stuck with a pc dos screen (or is it a command prompt screen?) and nothing i put into the command lines will make it boot.

It's and Acer Aspire 6920 laptop, running Vista, all service packs and updates have installed with no problems, to my knowledge anyway.

I'm sorry i haven't got any screenshots and i also apologise if this is comfusing or i've left out any relevant information that you need to know.

Can anyone help??

The touchpad doesn't work quite correctly. The right button is completely non-responsive. Also, a couple of times the touchpad itself was non-responsive to tapping. I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them, didn't help.

Uhhh, help me. Thanks in advance

I just bought an Acer Aspire E15 laptop running windows 8.1 64 bit Feb 14, 2017. It took a while to get it to install updates. I looked up how to fix the "stuck at checking for updates forever" and I figured out how to get the updates working by manually installing a few updates using standalone update packages from Microsoft.com. I had to disable my internet and disable windows update with 'net stop wuauserv' in cmd. After installing them in the correct order based on the prerequisites section for the update that another forum mentioned, I ran 'net start wuauserv' and enabled my internet. It then, by itself, installed 221 updates and it took 10 hours. Now the touchpad on it has stopped working and is not listed in device manager. Please help.

I love this forum and have found a ton of useful information but this is my first time posting.

So I have an Acer Aspire ES1-512-P18H laptop that came stock with Windows 10. I deleted the partition and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 in legacy mode with a USB flash drive. I then installed most of my drivers and noticed that the scroll function on the keypad was not working.

I went to Acer Aspire ES1-512 Drivers Download for Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Vista, XP and downloaded the "Mouse and Touchpad Driver" which is an Elantech driver. No luck.

I then uninstalled said driver and downloaded the Synaptics "Windows 8/7/XP/Vista 64/32-bit Edition v17.0.19" driver from Software Drivers | White Papers | Videos | Synaptics. Again, no luck.

I did some more research and found this article Solved: Aspire e15 (e5-511-p9y3) Touchpad not working on w... - Acer Community - 277578 and attempted to install Windows 7 in UEFI mode with Secure Boot off. I deleted the Windows 7 partition to not cause any issues and to perform a clean install on a blank partition. The Windows files would load and then hang at the windows logo screen when it says "Starting Windows."

I then did some more research and found this to be a common problem when installing Windows 7 on systems made for win8/10 using UEFI.

At this point I do not know what to do. I believe if I was able to install Windows 7 on a GTP partition using UEFI, my touchpad would work correctly. I th... Read more

After trying 20+ drivers from ALPS, Synaptics and ElanTech I have found the solution! Download this cabinet file
403 Forbidden
and extract/copy the contents to a folder of your choosing. Run the Setup and voila! You have a fully functioning touchpad.

This worked for the ETD050A touchpad used in my Acer Aspire ES1-512-P18H with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installed via USB stick in Legacy mode.

Hope this helps anyone else with the same problem when downgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 7.

After updating to Windows 10 some months ago I've got some troubles with my Synaptic touchpad. Generally it's become less sensible so that I need to to tap more than one time and harder to select something. And when I've worked on my Acer Aspire 7745G for a long time the touchpad simply stop working, and the only thing that can make it work again is restarting the pc! A smaller annoying thing is that when drawing a line using the touchpad, moving a tiny bit too fast can make it accelerate out of my control. Hyper-sensibility one could call it! The problems occurs both when using the latest driver from Acer.com Synaptics 14.0.6.0, 2010/04/12, and the one installed automatically with Windows 10, Synaptics 19.0.9.4., 2015/07/14.

I have a month old Acer Aspire E 15 laptop. Its touchpad is very hard and for normal touch it just keeps roaming picking up cells. It can only be stopped by taking off the finger and then carefully taking cursor to an empty cell and press hard to click so the several picked up cells get released and I can work further. I tried Fn+F7 suggested by a forum member but it acts only an On/Off switch for the touchpad. Press Fn+F7 and it goes off, press again it comes back. But the hardness remains. A click with the touchpad means press the touchpad hard till it literally 'clicks'. Looks like the machine will be usable only with a mouse. Before I had a Lenovo and never faced any such problem. Anyone faced such a problem? And any solutions?

Hi

i've got a problem with my touchpad on Acer Aspire 3690, couple days ago it completely quit working, touchpad + the left and rigth keys on it and the scroll key.
When I looked into device manager I saw the exclamation mark beside the SCSI/RAID host Controller. I tried to update or something with that driver with wizard but no result, and also as I turn my laptop on, that wizard turns on and offers me to install it, but at the end it not finds any driver. I re-installed the Synaptic but it didn't help.

Thanx for help in advance. Any suggestion will be appreciated

Hi, I'm running Windows 10 on a Acer Aspire S7-392-6832 laptop. Lately I've been getting jealous of my Macbook friends because of the four-finger swipe that quickly switches the last two open windows (effectively the same as Alt-Tab on my laptop) However, I was wondering why my laptop is not concidered to have a "Windows Precision Touchpad". The drivers that I use (ELANtech - the main driver, and Synaptics) allows for 3 or 4 finger gestures, so surely my expensive 2013 ultrabook laptop has a touchpad that is good enough. Does anyone know how to make the touchpad show up as a "precision" model so I can use the useful gestures (that includes the app-switching in OS X)?  I've tried reinstalling the Synaptics and ELANtech drivers and messing with some other options but that did not work for me.  Thank you.
