Q: boot problem with my T450S when docked on Ultra Do...

Hello. My new T450S (bougth in december 2015), running W7 with all drivers regulary updated, often refuses to boot when docked (ThinkPad Ultra Dock) : the systems hungs on the first Lenovo screen and "press enter key" procedure is not working. Most times a second boot will work, but sometimes I have to undock in order to get de PC started. Stand alone booting never gives problems.I neither have wake-up or other dock or undock problems. Thank you for help. Hans

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have ThinkPad T470 laptop with Windows 10 pro x64 installed. Sound plays just fine from the laptop's speakers, and when I plug external speakers into the laptop's 3.5mm audio port they work just fine too.But...when the laptop is docked in my Ultra Dock 90W docking station and the external speakers cable is plugged into the dock's audio port, no sound is heard. If I'm playing music through the laptop's speakers, as soon as I plug a cable into the dock's audio port no sound is heard. I can still use the laptop's audio port to connect external speakers, but that defeats the object of having an audio port on the Ultra Dock. I believe the driver of external speaker plugged into dock is well-installed and well-detected by the device managerI already set it as default audio output and can see the volume symbol up-and-down while testing it.I also had my T450 docked and the audio port from this Ultra Dock worked just as expected!! It seems everything works fine but still no sound can be heard when T470 is docked. Is it a bug when using Dock with T470 docked ??What do I need to do to get the Ultra Dock's audio port working?Anyone can help ?? Hello, I recently bought the Ultra Dock 90 for my T450s.  I have one external monitor currently connected through the dock.  When I push the power button on the docking station (laptop lid closed) to turn on the computer, the computer turns on, but the external monitor does not engage.  When I lift the laptop lid, there is no image on the laptop screen either.  The laptop is on, but does not respond to any key stokes on the actual laptop.  I then have to do a hard reboot using the power button on the laptop. If I initially power the laptop by lifting the lid and hitting the laptop power button, the compter boots and my external screen works.  I can then close the laptop lid and everything is fine. I know the power button on the dock should power the computer and external monitor on.  I am guessing there is a simple solution to resolve this, but I am not a computer person and need help. One thing to note - when I lift the lid after trying to power the laptop through the dock, I see that the Function Green Light is illuminated.  Not sure if this information is helpful in determining the problem. Please help! Peterrabbit33

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone here can help me with my ever annoying problem. I have a T450s running on Windows 10 64-Bit. Latest Intel Drivers. I have an 40A2 Lenovo Ultra Dock. The following configuration is coming out of the dock into the monitors. Channel 1 - DisplayPort (dock) to Mini-DVI (monitor 1)Channel 2 - using DVI (dock) to DisplayPort (monitor 2) Channel 2 is not outputting any video signal at all. Intel's software is not recognising another monitor at all. Their DisplayPort Topology is showing 1 DisplayPort (this could be because the other is not connected). I've tried both display ports and they both work on either channels. I will be bringing in a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable shortly to try, but shouldn't my DVI to DisplayPort. Something is amiss and it's driving me nuts. Thanks,Ron

Hi,After updating to the JBET67WW 1.31 BIOS my mouse and trackpad cannot click on most UI elements in Windows 10 (1709) when connected to a ThinkPad Ultra Dock (40A2), some still works like minimize/maximize and close buttons on windows but most dont. I've tried to force a re-apply of the update but it is still having the same problem. Previously I used 1.30 without any problem, so the question is where can I get the files for 1.30 to do a downgrade?

So I went to windows 8 about 4 days ago solely for the purpose of having a fast boot (and DX11.1)
But once I finished the install and installed the essential software I needed, I went into my boss and set Ultra Fast Boot. Once I booted, it gave me this error "THE VBIOS of your discrete VGA card does not support UEFI GOP, so it can not support "Ultra Fast Boot" and "CSM Disable" "

I think it is talking about my GPU which is a GTX 680 ASUS DCUII OC. But I am unsure of the rest of it. I was really keen on getting a super fast boot with my system. For some reason it takes 30 seconds to boot even with an SSD. My friend has the same SSD and mobo but his rig boots in 10 seconds with win7. Mine takes 30 :c. My BIOS splash screen hangs for 15 seconds. I have tried many ways including disabling the splash screen and making the timer for it shorter. Nothing seemed to have done anything. :c so I was hoping Ultra Fast Boot could help me. Thanks in advanced for any help! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 I am currently on Win 7. And am keen on moving to windows 8 in about a 2-3 weeks from now. and I just joined the forums, so Hi!

A:Help with Ultra Fast Boot problem?

Hello Mr Pariah, and welcome to Eight Forums.

To be able to use the "Ultra Fast Boot" option in your UEFI firmware settings, your graphics card must also support Fast Boot UEFI GOP.

I see that you could use NVFlash and a modified BIOS to flash your graphics card's GOP BIOS with at the link below to have it support "Ultra Fast Boot".

GOP UEFI BIOS Available for ASUS GeForce GTX 680 Series Graphics Cards

   Warning
Be sure this is what you really want to do though. One mistake while following the steps at this link, and you could turn your graphics card into a brick that will never work again.

When I attempt to reboot my T460p (20FWCTO1WW) while it's in its Ultra Dock (40A20090US), it shuts down properly but hangs at the red Lenovo splash screen on restart. If I remove it from the dock and power off/on, it boots normally. I can then put it to sleep, drop it in the dock, wake it up and everything is OK. This only started happening after the application of the latest firmware, R07ET71W 2.11. Has anyeone else experienced this?

Hi all =). I'm getting a computer made with a 450w power supply. I'm getting a Geforce 6800 Ultra at least, but the company recommends a 480w supply for this card. I've heard of people having problems with their power supply not being able to cope with this card, but I don't know exactly at what power their power supplies ran. Will I run into any problems with the power supply I'm getting, or should I upgrade to 480w or more?

Don't know if you need this information also, but I think this may also effect my power supply:

Asus K8V SE Deluxe Motherboard
Athlon 64 3400+
1.5 GB pc3200 DDR Ram
120 GB HDD

Also heard that AMD uses less power than Intel or something...sooo I was thinking that perhaps my graphics card will not be affected as much because of this...but dunno. Help would be greatly appreciated =D.

A:Regarding Geforce 6800 Ultra, Ultra Extreme, or Asus v9999 Ultra Deluxe

One, Use a title once.

Two, nope nVIDIA GeForce 6800 families or newer REQUIRES 480w of psu minimum, PERIOD. it is not matter how much watts amd or intel uses, what you means that you must have 480w or higher to have GF 6800 working properly.

Recommendation, get ATI Radeon 9600XT or 9800XT, they merely used up less than 350w.

Lucan

You will get better games or things out of ATI instead of nVIDIA due to power usages

Hey guys,

I have a HP Pavillion dv6500 docked into a docking station allowig me to use an external monitor. All works fine apart from on boot, the external screen will come on at the resolution of the laptops LCD rather than the max res of the screen. Simply opening and closing the laptop lid rectifies this problem. Is there a way to solve this that would not hamper the laptop when it was not docked

cheers

A:forced docked PC to boot at correct res

Maybe some else has, but I've not found a "solution" to this same problem. When my laptop is "open", the attached flat panel defaults to the same resolution as the laptop; when the laptop is "closed" it jumps back to full resolution. Merely opening the laptop causes the resolution to reset.

My computer won't boot. I took it to Geek Squad just this week and they said it's not a hardware problem and that it boots fine in safe mode. Now that I have it home it won't boot at all, which is what it was doing before I took it to them (I have no idea how they got it to boot). Sometimes when I power it on it immediately powers off. Most of the time the power stays on, but nothing happens (i.e., I can hear the fans turn on, or the drive spin for a couple seconds, but nothing happens on the monitor, which is on and works. I know this because I've connected the monitor to my laptop and it works fine). So I'm unable to do anything with the function keys. I've tried booting from the Windows 7 CD, a repair disk, and a bootable hardware diagnostic tools CD and nothing happens (i.e., the monitor remains black). So I can't even run a system restore. However, I took the hard drive (WD10EADS) out of the computer, and using a docking station connected it to my laptop. That worked fine and I was able to see all the files on the hard drive. Is it possible for me to fix the hard drive while it's docked to my laptop? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

A:Computer won't boot, but hard drive works when docked to laptop

I'd like to know what's wrong with the computer and how to make it boot again. Of course I'd rather not erase everything on the hard drive (I know that, if need be, I can use the docking station, my laptop, and a new hard drive to back everything up). Thanks!

UPDATE: Finally finally managed to change boot order... still refuses to boot from new M.2 unless I use the F12 boot menu.I even excluded the old  one from the boot menu... now it just launches into repair mode. Why will it boot from the new M.2 (which is now the C drive) just fine with the F12, but not just by turning it on?I've installed a new 256 M.2. The system insists on booting off the old 16BG drive (which had Win10 pre-installed), even though I've made the new one the C drive. The old one is now E, and unless I used the F12 boot menu, it always boots from the 16 GB M.2.I migrated Win10, and it will boot fine... if I use the boot menu. BUT... I've changed the 16 GB drive to E:, and the new one to C. Why, why, why does it keep insisting on booting from the now E: drive? I even deleted files off it, now it just gets errors and I have to use the F12 boot menu every time to boot from the C: drive.I've searched for hours... and hours... for a way to change the boot order. But Lenovo seems to have (malevelontly, because they hate me) removed that menu from the BIOS. How the heck do I change this? Please?

Hello, My T540s (which just ran out of warranty ...) has a very weird issue : When I try to boot (clicking the power button), the fan starts turning, the keyboard's backlight turns on, but ... a second later (even before the Thinkpad logo shows up), the whole computer crashes and shuts down !Where it gets even more special is that from time to time (1 out of 1000) the computer boots normally, although giving me this warning :Secure Flash Authentification FailedCapsule Data is invalid_ I'm kind of lost right now, really don't know how to get that fixed. My friends think that my motherboard needs to be changed, but I really want to be sure before buying a new one (very expensive). I suspect a bug in the BIOS (recent update failed ?) ... What do you think ? Does anyone have or had the same problem ? Thanks for helping, Best, Sylvain E.K.  PS: Running Win7 64bit

A:T450s random crashes on boot

One possibility: damaged USB port.  This was known to happen on some older T-series laptops.  Bent USB port pins would short power, causing the quick shutdown.

It's not likely in your case (would be 1000 failures out of 1000...) but worth a quick check.

Hi All,

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X200 (model: 7459-VZ9) with a docking station. This connects to my Samsung 2693HM display via VGA (no DVI available on the laptop or docking station). The native screen resolution on the laptop monitor is 1280x800, but when docked I would to use 1920x1200 on the 2693HM. This doesn?t work however: even though 1920x1200 is available in the list of resolutions (and listed as recommended), when I select it I get a weirdly distorted output ? only about the top 1/3 of the screen and 6/8 of the width is shown all stretched and distorted. What can cause this problem, and can it be solved? Is it the 2693HM, the X200, the cable, ?

The 2693HM shows perfect 1920x1200 when connected by DVI to my desktop PC.
I can show up to 1680x1050 from the X200 without problems.
Latest display drivers from Lenovo are installed, and the screen is recognized as ?2693HM (analog)?.

Specs:
Lenovo ThinkPad X200 (model: 7459-VZ9)

I think you are experiencing the same issue I have. If you notice after the Lenovo boot logo the display still stays on its just black, what it appears to be for me is a video failure after trying to update to windows 10 anniversary update. Try plugging in an external monitor and see if you get display, I did in my case.  Remove your hard drive and restart the PC, this should get the bios working again, go into your bios and disable secure boot so you can boot to a USB. Create a bootable USB 3.0 using a USB3.0 drive (formatted to NTFS) from Microsoft's site - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/ Then goto repair my computer and choose rollback update, this will get you running again.  I have a p50 with Nvidia M1000M dedicated graphics, so I am still trying to figure out if this is a driver issue.

When I started up my T450S today, the display was black.  I tried F7 to switch displays, with no luck.  I connected an external RGB monitor and it worked.  When I hit F7 again, the 'Project' screen showed the 'PC Screen Only' was highlighted.  When I tried to switch displays, the change wouldn't take effect.  I saw some posts earlier that said to perform hard reboot (can't - internal battery) and to press the reset button, which I tried, but it didn't help. From the Lenovo Solution Center I ran a hardware scan that came back OK.  When I looked at 'Snapshot', it wouldn't load a snapshot of the motherboard, but the video card came up as expected.  I fear that this means a motherboard replacement; what else can I try?   Thanks,Craig

From turning on the computer until the hard drive stops reading is taking around 30min!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It always seemed to slow ( 5-8min) but all of a sudden the boot up time has drastically increased. I have upgraded and installed and uninstalled so many things recently I'm not sure which one could have done anything.
I have Defragged using standard windows application and also using 'Diskeeper'. This made no difference. I have deep scanned the whole computer for addware, spyware, viruses etc using AVG, ZoneAlarm Pro, Microsofts onilne scan, Dells support scan and several others, all of which show nothing is wrong.
Looking online at others with the same symptoms, it seemed the Zonealarm was using a lot of memory power so I uninstalled this but no luck changing the problem.
Once the boot up has finished ( anything from 20-40 min ) the computer runs fine with no problems at all.
The Windows task manager ( when it eventually loads during the boot up ) shows the PF Usage at up to 1.4GB and the CPU fluctuating from 0% up to 50-60%.
I've also had 1 warning about virtual memory being high.
Any help REALLY REALLY appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1 Boot the system in safe mode. How does it work now? Do you still have the problem?

2 Test your hd with the drive maker's utility for checking the drive. Note you download this from whoever made the drive; ie WD, Seagate, etc.

Hope someone here can help. I've got a T450s i7 and I've changed from the Windows 8 with which it was supplied to Windows 10.  I don't know whether the media card was working under 8 - I didn't wait too long before updating to 10 - and I don't use the card reader much, so I can't confirm whether or not it has ever worked on this machine. But now I need to use it, and although the system recognises that a media card has been inserted, it won't read the card and won't show the drive in Explorer.  I've checked the relevant BIOS setting, tried updating and reinstalling the drivers, and everything i can think of, but it still won't read the card.  It appears to be a Realtek reader, and when I run the installer routine, the resulting box says that the driver Realtek MTD was not needed - no device for update present.  The other driver installs correctly. The "no device for update" message sounds as if there's no reader there, but I'm definiytely inserting a card into something (!) and I get the correct Windows melody and notification box that an SD card has been inserted. Does anyone have any ideas? Could the actual reader be faulty? Is it easy to replace?  Thanks in advance.

A:CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard

Most nForce4 based motherboards support such CPUs but not all of them do so out-of-the-box. Make sure to have a motherboard from the latest production batch. If not, it might be handy to have a single-core to flash the BIOS in case it doesn't want to power up with the dual-core one.

Want to add a 250GB Ulta ATA drive to P4 computer currently booting 98SE on generic IDE HD. Goal is to dual boot - XP Pro on ATA & 98SE on IDE (Reason: Legacy software). Have SATA/150 + Ultra ATA/133 combo PCI card available to install. Current drives on system: 20GB IDE HD, 1 CD-RW, 1 3.5 Floppy. Need to know: 1) Good or bad idea, 2) If good, how to do the job. I am novice level at adding hardware & configuring BIOS.

I need to Dual boot my acer. I followed the instructions on UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows to create a uefi boot usb drive. I then go into Advanced start up to boot from usb drive.

It starts loading but then hangs on "Starting Windows" I then try to load it through windows 8 and it starts loading copies all files the restarts and the the same thing.

Any idea?

Hi I've edited this post to make users aware the Sandisk Ultra II SSD has issues with the 450 G3 in legacy mode.  It's simply not visible in the boot options under legacy only UEFI.  I have spent hours and hours and it doesn't work on a 240 and 480 gb models I have running the latest firmware.  I've posted messages on the Sandisk forums reporting the very likely bug. I think I'll stick to Samsung which 850 Evo works perfectly!

I have the system indicated in my signature. I have my Drives connected to the promise IDE controller. I have my bios set to boot from Floppy/CDrom/HDD. It will boot from a bootable floppy no problem. But if I try to get it to boot from CD it will just boot from HDD. THe bios on the promise card recognizes the two optical drives and they work normally in every other aspect. Yes I am using bootable CD's. I have the onboard IDE controllers disabled. I have looked on the Promise web site and they don't address this issue anywhere. Nor do they address using the controller card as an extension to the onboard IDE controllers which I will eventually want to do. Can anyone give me some advice here?

Thanks in advance for any help.

DJ

I have a SCSI PCI controller that is ultra 2 and I have found a 36.4GB SCSI hd from HP that is ultra 3. Will the adapter slow the transfer rate of the ultra 3. If so to what degree the controller I have has a sdram slot on it with a 16 MB stick in it . Will it still work If I put a 128MB stick in it?

I have MoBo MSI 645 ULTRA and graphic card InnoVision Tornado GeForce4 Ti4200. When is set AGP 4x then in some games (e.g. Warcraft III, American Army) blinks some polygons on screen. When AGP driver has not installed or I set AGP 2x (in PowerStrip), problem disapear. What must I do to solve this problem?

My configuratin:

P4 1800 Northwood
MSI 645 Ultra
InnoVision Tornado GeForce4 Ti4200
RAM 256 MB DDR
HDD IBM 80 GB
psu 300 W

A:Problem with MSI 645 Ultra and AGP 4x

Try downloading and installing the latest AGP driver from the motherboard's site, the latest driver file from the video card's site, and the latest version of DirectX from -

MS DirectX download - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.asp

Update DirectX first.

I have an annoying IRQ share between the motherboard on-board sound and the AGP slot which holds my Radeon 9700 pro.

Both use IRQ 16, and although there are no conflicts shown in the device manager, I'm pretty sure I'm getting crashes as a consequence. (Mainly during gaming).

XP pro won't let me change the IRQ assignments for either of these devices (area is greyed out on the properties box). The motherboard BIOS will let me assign IRQs for my PCI slots but not for the onboard sound or AGP.

Help! (Before I waste money on a PCI sound card, and disable the onboard sound)

(
Win XP Pro SP1, dx9, all latest drivers for everything, temps are good.
)

A:IRQ problem with MSI KT4 Ultra

I dont think the problem is with the irq's, most newish boards these days share the irq's with no problems. if you want to confirm it just disable the onboard sound and play the game to see if it crashes.
Most crashes are down to the software now, irq's are not as critical of sharing as they used to be.
Check your bios settings for graphics related items, reduce the agp speed down a bit then test your game.

Just a few ideas, Good Luck

I have been using ultra vnc to connect to other peoples computers with out any problems.

Now I have the server running on my win2000 computer with a broadband connection & no router. I also shut down zone alarm, point to the vnc connection and wrote down the ip address it displayed. This would show the correct ip as long as I am not behind a router, right?

So now I am at another location with an XP computer & try to use the viewer to connect the ip of the win2000 at the other location but can't connect. I have it set to automatically accept connections & enter a password.

If everything on the win2k machine running the vnc server is set up correctly should I be able to ping it using the ip address displayed by the vnc icon? When I try to ping that address I don't see it so some thing is wrong but what??

Any tips appreciated,

Thanks-George

I have been on this forum for a long time trying to figure out. what the hell is wrong with my PC. First off my computer was home-made:

Antec Mid-Tower
AMD Athlon 64bit processor
1 GB DDR RAM
Radeon 800XL GFX Card
Glacier 500WATT Powersupply
Windows XP Professional
10/100 Ethernet card
Dell 17inch Monitor
Saitek Keyboard
Logitech Mouse

Now this computer we built 4 years ago. I have sprayed out the inside with a dust can and made sure everything was connected. It first started while playing Guild Wars..the mouse froze and then the entire computer froze. Then after restarting it would freeze on booting up..then a screen would come up saying it was detecting arrays. I reformated this pc so many times. Recently I just did it and when trying to install windows updates and my VGA drivers it kept freezing. Now the powersupple is fine and compatable with everything. I even left the side of my pc open so overheating is out. I use no P2P software and dont even download any porn on the computer. I use it for work, games and web surfing. I have no idea why the hlel it freezes and even after i reformat it problems arise...i dont want to take my computer to geek squad either because that would annoy me ha

A:Ultra Problem

I read a review of your power supply and some problems with the fan speed control were mentioned. The PSU fan would quit working altogether. Is your PSU fan still working? If not, it could be overheating.

Here is my problem.
I have 2 hard drives in my system, a Maxtor 40gb and a Seagate 80gb.
The Maxtor is set to master, Seagate set to slave, the maxtor is a Ultra DMA6 and the Seagate is UDMA5. When I was installing windows, they both read as a 6/5, once windows was booted up, they are coming up as UDMA2. We've played with the jumpers, and right now it is on Cable Select, and we've gone into the settings and changed everything to where it SHOULD be.
If I unplugged the Seagate, the Maxtor booted as a 6, and windows detected it as a 6. Once the Seagate was back in, it changed to a UDMA2.
The cables are in right, and such. Why won't it boot up as the proper DMA mode?

What I'm running is a;
ASUS K8V-SE motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3400+
Seagate Baracuda 80GB 7200 RPM ATA100
Maxtor 40GB 5400 RPM ATA133

A:Ultra DMA problem

I don't have any answers for you, just a question -- have you tried putting the Seagate as master on the secondary? Does it make a difference?
