BSOD: problems with video card driver?

Q: BSOD: problems with video card driver?

I've just built a new computer last friday and i've had some problems with it BSODing.

It seems to have problems when playing games and starting videos on youtube or w/e.
When it crashes it won't reboot normally until i leave it off for about 5 min. It reboots fine in safe mode every time. This seems like a lack of cooling to the video card at first but i have run some stress tests that put the video card temp leveling out at 80?C.

I've installed and reinstalled the newest drivers, however, sometimes when i reboot windows will have a pop up bubble that says my driver version (266.58) has stopped responding but successfully recovered. This message pops up while my screen is flickering in and out.

I didn't know how to upload the perfmon/report html file because either i'm dumb or the directions aren't very clear.

These are some of the errors i have been having. They seem to be pretty consistent after a crash.

Preferred Solution: BSOD: problems with video card driver?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: BSOD: problems with video card driver?

Hello,

Start by reseating your graphics card; make sure it's in securely. If that doesn't work, do you have any other cards you could try? If you have onboard graphics, give them a try; if not, try to borrow a card from a friend.

There is a January 2011 version of your graphics drivers out; try uninstalling your current drivers in Device Manager, and then installing these ones: NVIDIA DRIVERS 266.58 WHQL

A:BSOD after Video card driver (?) problems

It appears to be the video driver causing the issue, if it should continue roll it back to the previous driver and wait until the next version of the ATI driver comes out to attempt a update.

Well here is the deal. Back in december the BSOD first appeared when I was playing BF2. Since then I updated the hard drive and it still remained. So, today I disabled my video card to find which card's driver is the culprit and its the video. Here's the confusing part, I updated the nvidia 6600 gt driver and still the BSOD remains. What do I do??? Thanks

A:Video card driver causes BSOD! Help please

what makes you so sure it's a driver issue?

I think you have a RAM problem or a weak PSU

Post your full system specs (be specific), also, tell us what error code you get with the BSOD

I just bought and downloaded Minecraft on my laptop and every time i attempt to launch it always gives me this...

Bad video card drivers!
-----------------------

Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.

I've just installed a PCI TV/Video capture card into my computer and when I go to load the driver (via the wizard)I get an error message at the end of the process (Error 69) and the driver will not load.

I'm running on Windows 98 (SE)
The Manufacturer indicates that the drivers provided support this operating system.

My computer is an IBM Net Vista Pentium III 766 MHz processor and is all above the minimum specs for the hardware.

Any suggested solutions to my problem would be appreciated?

Hi!I Just updated my (around 2 years old) graphics card on my computer through "Amd Vision Engine Control Center" which is my graphics card update center I belive. The second I installed the update my screen started to look wierd, and the normal prosedure occurred like black screen, blinking and resolution change. The problem I have after the update is Small Red moving dots (so not dead pixels) sometimes they even form small red lines, moveable as well. Sometimes I don't have red dots at all, its fine, just like normal. but the majority of time it is filled with red dots. How can I fix this problem? I really can't see its my graphics card thats broken nor Monitor that is broken, because it occurred instantly after the Graphics card Update (I had something familiar earlier, when I updated the Graphics card I couldn't see my Mouse pointer when I moved it while playing video games, but this was fixed by uninstalling all games - then reinstalling them) I have two monitors connected, it is only One monitor that is affected by this, my main monitor. Info:Graphics card: XFX Radeon HD 4890 1GB GDDR5Windows 7 64-Bit8 GB RamAMD Phenom 3.21 GHz Quad coreThanks for any help!Cheers from NorwayEdit:Ive tryed uninstalling the Update center, but that is not possible, can't uninstall through Control Panel, nor can I see any uninstall options in the update center.Edit:Sorry for the font... went kinda fast there.

Hi,

I bought a computer that didn't come with an operating system. I put windows 98 on it.

I loaded all the drivers that I could take out and look to see what they were named.

The problem: I cannot get to the video driver or the sound card. They are behind a device that I can not take out. They are (I guess) mounted on the motherboard and I can't get to them with all the crap mounted around them.

I really can't even see them good. I hope I am explaining this so you can understand what I am saying.

How can I find out what they are. It is a Celeron computer that says "Intel inside", 500 mhz, 64 mb.

I need to load these drivers but can't. Please help.

I recently updated my graphics card driver and my computer has been bluescreening ever since. I think that is the problem, but I'd appreciate an insight that can be given.

A:BSOD Ever Since I Updated Video Card Driver

Hello jessebrownarrow, unfortunately Your uploaded files contained no dump files, which are what we use to debug systems. Please make sure your system is configured for Small Memory dumps. This will tell you how, Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD Next make sure there is a folder named Minidump in C:/Windows. If not, please create one.

In your error reporting I did notice quite a few errors in ClicktoRun.exe and InDesign.exe. You may start looking at those programs and see if they are updated and configured correctly. Those errors may be the source of your problems.

If you think your video card drivers are causing the problem, please reinstall them like this.

I am going to give you some links that will help you get a good clean install and not have any drivers you don't need that will conflict with other drivers. Download a WHQL driver from Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7 . Once you have them downloaded, uninstall you current driver from control panel. next clean up any left over drivers from following this tutorial Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling and select only ATI Display Drivers. After you have done that and rebooted, install the new driver, only select custom install and install only what you have to. Very few people need most of what they include. You do not need the audio/HDMI drivers as you already have that in your Motherboard drivers. Unless there is some reason you need them, the only thing you really need is th... Read more

A:BSOD when starting my PC, should be caused by video card driver

Hi IvanS1069.

Update the display driver to the latest from Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers.

When done, Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark. Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
Take a screenshot of the furmark window before closing it. Upload the screenshot for us. Also let us know if you have experienced any crash/BSOD and/or artifacts during the test.

Also report us for any further BSOD.

A:BSOD While starting games and updating video card driver

Stop 0x124 is a hardware error

If you are overclocking try resetting your processor to standard settings and see if that helps.

If you continue to get BSOD here are some more things you may want to consider.

This is usually heat related, defective hardware, memory or even processor though it is"possible" that it is driver related (rare).

Quote:
Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try
Synopsis:

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.

Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.
Generic "Stop 0x124" Troubleshooting Strategy:

1) Ensure that none of the hardware components are overclocked. Hardware that is driven beyond its design specifications - by overclocking - can malfunction in unpredictable ways.
2) Ensure that the machine is adequately cooled.
If there is any doubt, open up the side of the PC case (be mindful of any relevant warranty conditions!) and point a mains fan squarely at the motherboard. That will rule out most (lack of) cooling issues.
3) Update all hardware-related drivers: video, sound, RAID (if any), NIC... anything that interacts with a piece of hardware.
It is good practice to run the latest drivers anyway.
4) Update the motherboard BIOS according to the manufacturer's instruct... Read more

Hi everyone,

Within the last 5 or 6 weeks I have experienced the BSOD frequently. I reinstalled XP 2 days ago to try and rid the problem, but it still remains, all-be-it, slightly different, i.e. before the reinstall the BSOD was kernel_stack_inpage_error and kernel_data_inpage_error. Now the error is driver_irql_not_less_or_equal with a STOP error:

0x000000D1 (0x00000009, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x00000009)

I have tested memory with memtest and windows memory tester and no problems came up. I have also tested my primary and secondary HD's with no errors.

About 2/2 1/2 months ago I installed an Nvidia Geforce 6200 256mb GFX card.

My specs are
AMD Athlon 1.25Ghz
Nvidia Geforce 6200 256mb
386mb PC2100 RAM
Primary HD is Seagate 80GB IDE and slave is Maxtor 120GB IDE.
300W power supply.

Is it possible that with teh installation of the new GFX card that my power source is not large enough to cope or sometyhing similar with the RAM? The crashes only seem to occur when the computer is idle, i.e. if I am actively using applications/games/internet, crashes do not occur.

6 minidumps are listed as you sendit sorry, hope they are relevant!

Cheers for the help.

A:BSOD - problems with video card?

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

It is entirely possible that your psu is the culprit. Particularly if it is a no name brand.

Take a look at this PSU wattage calculator. Add a further 30% to what ever figure it gives you as a safety margin.

2 of your minidumps are corrupt and unreadable.

2 crash at ntoskrnl.exe. This is the Windows bootup kernel. They have bugchecks of D1.

1 crashes at NDIS.sys. This is the windows NDIS 5.1 wrapper driver. It has a bugcheck of D1.

1 crashes at psched.sys. This is the Windows MS QoS Packet Scheduler. It has a bugcheck of D1.

0x000000D1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

The system attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high. The most typical cause is a bad device driver (one that uses improper addresses). It can also be caused by caused by faulty or mismatched RAM, or a damaged pagefile.

Go HERE and follow the instructions for testing your page file etc.

Everything points to a ram problem. However, an underpowered or faulty psu would cause these errors as well.

Hi,

I've got a Laptop, a 'old' one, with the following specs:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T5550
Motherboard: Packard Bell BV PB3G
Graphics card: nVidia GeForce 8600M GT (Driver 341.95)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
Total Memory: 3 GB

Now I've got a couple of problems. First of all, I occasionally will get a BSOD with nvlddmkm error.
Then when I restart I get a double screen with 2x 800x600. It's getting quite annoying.

Device Manager -> Display adapters: Reporting an error when this happens (Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43).

I tried a couple of things:
- Clean installing nVidia driver, (including the driver sweeper).
- CCleaner registry fixing
- Uninstalling and reinstalling video card drivers

Also, the crashes seem to occur randomly (not while playing game(s), or by doing a certain action).

Sometimes I seem to fix it, then everything works fine for like 2 days, and then it does it again. Sometimes it will even boot with the double screen.

If you need any more info. Please tell me.

So I've owned this alienware m17x r3 (Intel Core i7-2670QM // Radeon HD 6870M // 4 GB DDR3) for about 5 months now, and just recently it has started crashing immediately on startup, either when it reaches the login page for windows or soon after. There is no BSOD, I've used WhoCrashed and made sure dump files are enabled and nothing comes up. I've tried installing several different versions of AMD's drivers for the HD 6870M I have but none work. I've run a system diagnostic test through advanced startup options and there are no errors.

It works fine with no drivers installed or if I boot in safe mode, but I am at my wit's end here trying to get my system back in to working order. I've already tried reinstalling a fresh version of windows 7, and fully cleaning my drivers and reinstalling them and nothing is a permanent fix. I have gotten 2 blue screens, both of which were 0x7E, with the cause being the C:\Windows\system32\drivers\atikmpag.sys file, but as I am just learning the ropes of this stuff I have no idea where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

if this has degraded overtime and was not fixed with a restore of the system it's probably a hardware issue and won't be fixed by a driver update. Have you checked to be sure it's not the monitor? Do you have another video card you can try just to see if that fixes the issue?

From this site you need downloads number 3 and number 4, no other ones: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fil...XP+Home+Edition&lang=eng&strOSs=45&submit=Go!

The Intel Network card drivers should be this set: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&OSFullName=Windows* XP Home Edition&lang=eng

And it appears it has a Realtek HD Codec: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=3&GetDown=false#High Definition Audio Codecs

Welcome

Lets start with Driver Verifier

Verifier puts extreme stress on the drivers, bad ones will cause BSOD. If we change all those drivers we hope for no more BSODs, If you get no BSODs, then its not a driver and we look to hardware. With verifier on your computer may be a little laggy, but actually..its just doing its work.Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Information
Driver Verifier runs in the background, "testing" drivers for bugs. If it finds one, a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) will result; the corresponding dump file will hopefully show the faulty driver.

Hi, I bought 2 Latitude 3570s at the same time last year and both have this vertical line screen problem this month. Warranty just expired at the start of this month. I'm still waiting for one of them to ship to me to take a look at. The other one I have here, I connected to a vga monitor and the monitor shows this exact screen as the one on the laptop. When I move the mouse, that square on the screen moves along with it. I don't see the Dell logo on startup.
I removed all attachments, usb mouse, power, and battery for 30 seconds and replaced it and it's working now. Maybe temporary. Anyone knows what can fix this? I'll try update to the BIOS 1.9.0 after this post. Thanks in advance!

aiight, i have an AMD Duron processor, with a PCCHIPS K7 333 Motherboard. I assume that it had integrated video which worked for some time.

One day, while trying to get my DVD-ROM to work, i got a message kinda like this.

"You need to disable the TV Out function to work PowerDVD player"

stupidly and accidently, i shut off my videoadapter.

for about a week now, ive been trying everything to get it to work again. Everything up unitl the Windows XP welcome screen works, but then blackness. I know my PC still works, i can hear ths Windows XP start sounds and stuff.

i tried following a keystroke scenario, from holding the Windows Logo button and pressing R, "typing devmsgmt.msc" going to device manager and enabling it, but no avail. The best shot i had according to my friend was to install a different Video Card, and then using that one enable the old one. yet,i i installed the card in the AGP slot and i still the get the same problem.

I tried changing the Primary Graphics Adapter from PCI to AGP, which did nothing.

And then also tried to disable Allocate IRQ to PCI VGA, just to see what would happen. Nothing.

Idk what card i have, but i know it should be decent enough to run XP. Its not the best kind of card either, its just one im borrowing.

It had a black heat sync on it but no places to hook up wires and no jumpers to which i can see.

Im stumped.

Hi, I'm having a problem. I've tried everything I know of or could find in a couple days of searching.

Since installing a new power supply & video card, my PC is having frequent slowdowns. The mouse will freeze for a few seconds and then teleport across the screen, typing text (like this post) will have occasional freezes and then catch up, etc. In online gaming (City of Heroes) the video will stutter. Also, the sound stutters, both in the game and when playing system sounds and MP3s. Ingame, the sound and video both stutter at the same time.

My first thought was heat, so I installed a program called RivaTuner to let me see the video card temperature. It hovers around 36-37 degrees celsius when web browsing, and has risen as high as 44 degrees while gaming. I haven't gamed for more than two consecutive hours yet, so it may go even higher. That said, the fans seem to be doing a good job of removing the heat, and the problems are about the same regardless of temperature. According to what I've read, for a video card anything under 60 degrees is good.

I opened the device manager and uninstalled the old video card driver. There were no hardware conflicts and DMA was not disabled. DirectX is updated to 9.0.

Drivers: the new video card came with a CD that installed nv4_disp.dll, which Windows XP says is unsigned. On the off chance the card didn't come with the latest driver, I downloaded the most recent one I could find from the MSI website, but it... Read more

I'm working with a Dell Dimension C521 PC. It came with a PCI-Express video card which apparently has failed, yet the motherboard itself has on-board video. The system will boot using this video output (as opposed to the card which produced nothing) but when it finally gets to windows the auto-detect driver routine kicks in and begins to detect the video card, prompting the user to "Continue Anyway" to finish installing unsigned drivers. Unfortunately this event takes place in front of the installation of the USB keyboard and mouse (times like these I wish it had PS/2 ). Anyway, whether I boot up into Safe Mode or normal a prompt comes up about installing drivers for the on-board chipset. I can't interact with it because the driver install routine for the keyboard/mouse becomes interrupted.

A:Dell Dimension C521; USB key/mouse driver load interrupted by video card driver load

Bump. I've been thinking... the only way I think this can be fixed is if I boot from a Linux CD or something similar and delete a particular set of drivers for this video card. It can't prompt you to install any drivers if they don't exist, right? But I don't know where to go to delete such files and prevent them from automatically trying to install themselves. Any ideas?

After you give me the information I need, I will gladly help you find a more precise driver for your specific needs

ps. from what it looks like, your computer may be very old and not entirely supported with a windows 7 driver, and i'm not even sure if it has a windows xp driver. you might try letting dell automatically search your computer for the right driver for your needs (if, of course, you have a dell).

The driver is just software required to run the video card, if you have Radeon Express 1150 video card then that won't change no matter what driver you install.

If you need a newer driver you can try the latest ATI Radeon driver from here: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/integrated-xp

Yes...
Even if you do have the latest drivers, it can lead to "glitches and choppy gameplay"...

A game can have a bug that means that no matter what driver you use, it won't work, but you'll have to wait for a patch... Or it could be that the drivers you are using has a bug, which has been fixed in a later version, you'll then have to upgrade.

But why not just upgrade to the latest drivers? It's not hard, and unless they specify bugs in other games you play, should (hopefully) fix the problem you're experiencing...

When you downloaded it, where did you tell the computer to save it? If you can't remember, download it again, and this time choose to save it to the desktop....makes it easier to find.

If it has a .zip at the end, you'll need a program called winzip to unzip it....if it is just and .exe at the end, double click it on your desktop, and the installation program should take over.

BTW, if it is a .zip file, double click that too, if you don't have winzip, you'll find out real soon. You can download it from here if the file doesn't automatically open up in winzip:

I have recently new a new system and a radeon 9600 pro. When I games with higher graphic demands my computer charshes or freezes. Also when the games do run smoothly the mouse curser is blinky or flashes (i can't think of the right word). In the most demanding game I've tried to play (world of Warcraft) it always crashes. I went to ATI's website and downloaded the most recent driver but im not sure i got the right one. how do i know if i have the right driver. or if thats the problem at all?

A:Video card Driver

Uninstall your old driver first.

Run the Catalyst Uninstaller.

Use one of these to remove any remaining ATI drivers:

Nasty File Remover
Driver Cleaner Professional

Download the Catalyst 5,10 driver (25.3 MB) and install it:

Hello,

Does anyone know how to find out what kind of video card one has in their computer other than looking at it physically/checking in the device manager? I can't find the name of it on the actual piece it self, and in the device manager it list's:
ES1869 Control Interface (WDM)
-I have no idea what website I could go too to get the updated drivers for this. I really want to get updated drivers...16 colors and 640 X 480 is really rough. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance.
Steve

A:Help With Video Card Driver Please?

ES1869 is an audio adapter, check under display adapters in device manager. If you can't find it there open up the computer and physically look at the video card for a name and model number.
