I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is the fan air intake screen on the bottom clean? I would get a can of air and with the laptop off, blow out the intake and exaust as well as you can. With the lid closed, shake it and see if anything rattles.

Hello. friend has the above PC. For some time now, at random intervals, it will emit a 4 second whistle (haven't heard it myself, but assume its from the mobo speaker) followed by 2 secs of silence. Desktop is frozen. Noise continues the same cycle until PC powered off. The inside is dust free and all connections seem secure. Any thoughts, please?

A:New Acer Aspire Blue Screen shutdown & noise

Hello -

Quote:

This laptop had a blue screen and very loud noise.

Sounds like a hardware issue.

I don't see any sign of infection in that log, which is what this section of the forum focuses on. That said...your version of HijackThis is outdated. Furthermore...

We no longer use HijackThis as our initial analysis tool, as it's not nearly as detailed as the tools we do use.

I don't believe this is a malware caused issue. Had you not posted a HijackThis log in your Windows XP topic, you might have received more detailed assistance there. You may want to repost in that topic, and ask someone to remove the HijackThis log, and pursue non-malware troubleshooting for you...or create a new topic in the Hardware section, with no HijackThis log. All such logs get referred here.

As far as the missing file in the O20 line, I'm not sure how that would affect your machine. I have that file in more than one location, system32, system32\dllcache and ServicePackFiles\I386....Windows File Protection should have replaced it.

You might do a search on your system to see if it's another location, and copy it to System32. Otherwise, you way wish to run the System File Checker

Go to Start->Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit OK. Let it scan. If it finds any files missing/corrupted, it may ask for the Windows CD. Otherwise, it will auto-close after it's done.

If after all that, you think the machine is infected, due to other symptom... Read more

i recently bought an acer aspire m1640 off of someone. But when i turned it on it made a loud EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE noise. I narrowed down frow where the noise is coming fom and its coming from the lower right corner of the motherboard. Its not from the hard drive or any of the fans. it seems that its coming from a small cylinder with a hole on top of it and there is a small lithium ion battery next to it. Does anyone know whats wrong or how to fix it???

A:acer aspire wont boot noise EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

The EEEEEE noise you are referring to is coming from yur motherboard onboard speaker, and is a series of high pitched beeps. I;ve looked at the board maual and it does not refer to the different beep combinations it has.

Try powering up the Pc with the top off the case and check things such as the CPU fan is running, check all hardware is seated correctly as it more than likely will be some form of hardware failure. Also try replacing the CMOS battery (the small lithium ion battery you mentioned)

Hi, I have a problem with my laptop. It was in service at the end of August with the cpu stuck at 0,8GHz problem. They fixed it with the replacement of the motherboard. This problem is fixed, but after the service a new problem came. My left speaker started making buzzing noise when I start playing games(CS:GO or GTA V tested on both). Feels like as my laptop getting hotter and hotter the noise gets louder and louder. If I close the game there is still buzzing noise, but as the laptop cools down it starts getting quieter until it stops doing it. I tried to uninstall and install the audio driver(latest from the acer website), disable or mute the speakers, but nothing help. I'm always using my laptop with headphones. Thanks for the advices in advance.

After helping my daughter to set up a new Acer Aspire Timeline laptop, I left when the recovery DVDs were in the process of being burned. I had an anxious phone message later to say that the last (4th) disk had been completed and ejected but that the software remained unremovable on the screen - could not be closed. The laptop had to be shut down via Windows Task Manager. It restarted OK. The question is, can I be sure that the final recovery disk has been closed properly or have I got to go through the process again to make sure - it takes ages.
Has anyone experienced this before, please?

Hello all , i am totally new here , i am having trouble finding information on the ability to make copies of the recovery disks [made on purchase] [3 of them + 1 for applications and drivers] .
My question is , is it possible to make copies [and if yes , then how?] of the above mentioned "factory recovery disks" ?
I have been using my acer aspire x64 bit laptop for two years now , and the operating system [windows 7 home basic x64 but crashes every month - but that is a problem/question for another thread/time]
for now i would like to know if i can simply make functional and bootable dvd copies that are identical to my current [in use and functional] 3 + 1 factory recovery disks ? As i am afraid that one day one or all of these disks will have scratches and will ultimately become corrupt , rendering them useless. Subsequently making my machine non-recoverable.
Note: I have already used the disks , successfully , about 25 times to revive from crashes. My hard drive and other components seem fine.
Just need to know if it is possible to make copies of these recovery disks [i would love to make atleast 1o sets of them -for complete peace of mind]
i am sorry for such a long and detailed post for a fairly simple question , to which i still donot know the answer to.
I would be much obliged to get as many answers from all you good and informed members. I appreciate you taking the time to read my concerns. Thanking you all, very respectfully, in advance.

A:making copies of acer aspire 5745 Factory Recovery Disks.

Why not?? These are like other DVDs which contain nothing else than data!!! You can use nero for this purpose.
I think you are confused with the notification to "keep disk carefully". This is because the software that lets you make disk is one time use only, i.e., either you successfully make it once or never EVER.

First, each model has multiple hardware specifications. So I have no way of knowing the hardware configurations of either unit that you have.

Second, upgrades are limited on OEM PC's. Your only options will be RAM and the video card. And in the case of the video card, the power supply may not be able to handle a decent card.

I have an AMD Phenom II x4 955 cpu with the factory mounted fan on top. Have noticed lately that a pronounced noise (squeal) from the fan when viewing various sites with my browser. The fan speed adjusts with the content as expected. Now it is running @ 3900 rpm while typing this, but if I select a video to watch, it will climb to around 5600-6000 rpm. That is when it is making the squeal. I am thinking the bearings are dry or have become worn. Question is, has anybody changed their cpu fan with this type processor. I hope to remove the fan and replace without taking the cpu out of its socket. Attached picture of cpu/fan, camera shot "stopped" or made it appear that it was stopped. I used Speccy to monitor the fan speed, although the readings seem very high? Tx

A:CPU fan making noise

Replace the fan if possible, but I would just buy an entire new cooler.

When you remove it use a twisting clockwise counter clockwise motion to break it loose from the thermal paste before you pull up, this should keep the cpu in the socket.

Please, be careful

My computer has started to make a bit of noise...it sounds like a faint hum, or constant drone, kind of like a fan noise. I checked the intake, exhaust and cpu fans by stopping them spinning and the noise is still there. It sounds like its coming from my PSU. Does that mean its on its way out?

I have a Hiper 530watt PSU which I have had for about 4-5 years now.

Should I replace it and if so can anyone recommend any good ones?

Thanks

My 2 month old computer is sadly annoying me. The noise of it!! Its not greatly loud, but enough to ennoy me especially since I listen to so much music on my pc.
I have 6 fans, 2 on the psu which i think are quiet, as small one on the motherboard which Im guessing is silent, one on my graphics card which i think it pretty quiet too. Then theres the cpu one which obviously makes some noise but I've turned on 'quiet fan' so its only running at about 1200rpm. This leaves a huge big fan at the back and I think it could be this. I've felt the back and theres a huge suction of air. I want to know if this is likely to be the fan making most of the noise and whether you'd recommend replacing it and what with.
It doesnt help that theres a vent in the front and 2 side vents either but they must be there for a reason.
Note, I also have a fan on the side panel which isnt plugged in since i dont need it.
So any help would be appreciated, thanks guys!

A:Which fan is making the noise??

Yah, it can be hard sometimes to tell which one is the bad guy.

In general though, it is the smaller fans that are the noisy ones. Luckily, once you find which one it is, you can replace it. There are many excellent (quiet) fans on the market these days.

What motherboard to you have? I think the loudest fan on my computer is the chipset fan. I have the A8N-SLI deluxe, followed by my CPU (stock AMD) fan. My 12 inch case fans are SUPER quiet.

Are you 100% certain that the source of the noise is the PSU? If it's coming from the PSU fan I would start by first cleaning it.

If there is no dust at all I would be worried about any noise emanating from the PSU.

Hello, I have a Scorpio Series case and the side fan (fan that lights up orange and red, some other models light up blue) is making some small noise. This noise is a very low electrical noise that you might here if you were near some huge electric phone wires (outside). It is not consistently making noise, it just comes on and off. I was wondering if there is any way i can turn off this fan, or is there any other way to deal with this problem... I am not so sure if this is a big deal, but it just doesn't sound right. I have 4 other case fans, power supply fan, cpu heatsink along with a minifan on my video card, so turning off this fan i dont think would cause any major problems with my cooling.

You can turn off the fan by opening the side panel and disconnecting it.

However, a better idea would be to simply replace the fan. They don`t cost very much, typically just a few dollars.

Even in safe mode it does not let me log in, it attempts repairs, it fails and then goes to the black screen with the white cursor.
If I try to start windows normally it loads the logo and then goes to the black screen.
Yesterday, in an attempt to do repairs it was replacing invalid security drivers or something like that and it was taking ages so I had to turn it off.
For the last week it took very long to start up, failing to configure windows but it would eventually let me log in.
Since yesterday I am only getting the black screen. it is windows 7 by the way.

Hello, my new Acer Aspire Notebook has my IE homepage stuck to global.acer.com and I can't change it through any of the IE options (Use Blank, Use Current, or typing it in manually - I'm trying to set it to Google).

I went to this page to solve the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q320159 (Home page setting changes unexpectedly, or you cannot change your home page setting).

As per Microsoft's instructions, I tried changing the "Start Page" value in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main," but I got the following error: "Cannot edit Start Page: Error writing the value's new contents." There was no "Default_Page_URL" entry in there.

I was able to change the "Default_Page_URL" value to "Google.com" under "HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" and the "Start Page" value in there was already set to "http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd={SUB_PRD}&clcid={SUB_CLSID}&pver={SUB_PVER}&ar=home"

The "Default_Page_URL" and "Start Page" entries don't exist in the "HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" key.

Lastly, the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel" subkey doesn't exist either.

I would appreciate any help you could give me, thanks!

I've had this computer since March and I'm using the stock heat sink it came with. Recently I've noticed that sometimes programs will be unresponsive for 4-6 seconds and then it will go back to normal. The same thing can be said about the mouse, sometimes it doesn't even move. I took apart the side panel of my case and noticed that the CPU fan was making the noise. It sounds like a dial up modem, but a lot more silent. This noise can only be heard up close and eventually it goes away before starting to make the noise again. My CPU temps are normal, 31 on idle and usally 45-50 when I'm playing a game. The stock fan never stops spinning either. Maybe the motherboard has something to do with this? I haven't changed anything or added any new hardware since putting it together in March nor have I replaced the thermal paste because the temps were always low to begin with.

Hey guys,im having trouble with my laptop. Every time I turn on my laptop, it makes an annoying vibrating sound. I thought it would be the fan being clogged up or something so I have opened it up and clean the inside. The result remains the same. I hear it around the fan since I'm pretty sure it's the only noisey part of the computer. I thought you guys might help me out, I might be doing something wrong.thanks

i had my sony viao for almost 2-yrs and i'm starting to hear a grinding noise from my hd. i initially noticed it when i turned it on. it made this loud grinding noise for over 10-mins then it disappear (pc still made typical very noise) and after 3 days the hd made the same noise (again for ~10-mins), but not as loud when i turned it on, still loud enough to notice and the grinding noise wasn't consistent either, a few time it was like grinding down then speeding up again
should i start looking at new hd, will i be able to rescue my files if my hd just decides to stop working or decides to boot up
i normally keep my pc on for 5-days and i know i'm not the only one so i don't think that's the reason
also most night, i keep my pc busy all night long encoding movies for over 10-hrs, can that be the cause

Any information of value should be backed up. Hd can die at the drop of a hat.

But are you sure its the hd and not a fan.

What happened to me one is that the CPU fan's mounting came loose and was not stable. Check to see if everything looks secure on it.

I'm still not too good at fixing my computer so bear with me. I recently had the Dell techguy out because my tower was making a noise like small jet engine. The tech replaced the power supply (2nd one), heat sink and fan. Fortunatley for me, it is still under extended warranty until June, 2010.

My question is that when I start and shut down my computer, there is a loud whoosh sound for perhaps a second or two. I never had this before the replaced parts were installed and am concerned whether this is standard.

My grandchildren play Wizard101 on it and sometimes it will crash (black screen). Would this online game make things worse? Is it worth upgrading memory or possibly video card? I have done a little searching on this but have read negative things about Dell's equipment & parts and what they recommend to upgrade.

Any help is greatly appreciated..thanks

Since last night my computer has been making this really weird sound. Kind of like a revving sound. I'm not sure what it is. I have an eMachines computer and this has never happened to me before. Anyone had this experience before and may know whats up with it?

On a side note: I saw the stickied topic about eMachines PSU's, and yes I think I need a new one. My computer crashes (often), and some mild things, and some people and forums have told me to get a new PSU, so anyone know a good PSU brand to get? I'll probably buy one from TrigerDirect or NewEgg, just need to know a good brand.

A:Computer making odd noise

The PCs at the school do the revving thing but then stop 10 seconds later.

On the side note a good company PSU would be OCZ, Antec, Thermaltake, and Enermax. Those should do good. Make sure you get them from newegg.com. They are the best site to buy things from.

A:My Hp Notebook PC is making a lot of Fan noise

Laptops need to be cleaned periodically.  Since this one is showing signs of dust/dirt build-up by heating up, then it most probably needs to be serviced.  This task is not for the average user, unless you are feeling skilled, but for a service tech.

VBAT = 2.94v

Its slowly driving me insane, its so high frequency mi mum and dad cnt hear it at all! but i can!!!!!!!!

I only recently got this new on eBay which was advertised new from a trusted seller.

Im really hoping someone here can offer me a solution or things to try other than ur psu is on its way out go buy a new one.... im skint.

Thanks in advance!

A:PSU Making a Whining Noise!

It is possible the psu 12v fan bearing is damaged and squealing which would also drag the 12v bus down.

Turn it OFF before you damage the mobo.

It starts up right as the pc starts up. It's an old Dell, running Win 95 or 98 (its my dad's pc, used to be mine back in 1998).

Part list is here: http://support.dell.com/support/top...tails?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~tab=2&~ck=anavml

However, we changed the video card; taking out the card, it's a Mad dog GeForce mx 4000 128 mb, 64bit.

The sound sounds like maybe it's something in the fan of the vid card...its not a clicking but sounds like a bee buzzing really loud--alters slightly in pitch now and then. When I opened up the case and looked around while it was running, the loudest part of the sound seemed to come from the vid. card. When i jiggled the monitor cable coming out of it, it altered in pitch back and forth to the way it was being jiggled.

Looking at it out of the pc, it doesn't look strange, some dust, which I tried cleaning out. When I put it back in, noise was still there.
And, during post, I heard what I think is the video card's shot beep pattern...long, short, short. Then i hear the normal post single beep and it sounds like it's starting normally. However, nothing's on the monitor.
I shut it down and tried again. Got the same thing but this time it shut itself down.

Is the vid card shot?

Hello All,
The noise is really annoying and I take out the video card and try to clean as much as I could but still makes a lot of noise so I unplugged the fan from the power, could this damage my video card? is there any way to replace this kind of fans? if so, where? directly to ATI? What really worries me is the fact of getting my card damaged , so what do you guys suggest? Thank you!

A:The Fan of my ATI 9600XT is making a lot of noise!!

PLUG IT BACK IN STRAIGHT AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!

you'll fry it!

Arctic cooling make an almost silent cooler to suit that card - I used to have one. Cost about $35 Australian.

A Zalman may fit as well. Check the Website.

Hi,
My desktop computer Acer Aspire M5630 fan is making weird noise. And its not the big fan its that small fan
http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/7164/smallfan.jpg
It suddenly stops and then accelerates rapidly, and does that for a 2 sec interval. I wanted to buy it myself and replace it but i couldnt find it online or even whats its called. Also wanna know aproximately how much it costs and how hard it is to replace it.
Also, if you look at the picture u'll see a white cable with blue ends, one of which is unplugged. I dont know if it was like that or its supposed to connect to somewhere...
Thanx.

A:Fan making weird noise

Hello there.

That fan is the cooler for the graphics card on your computer. It should be fairly easy to replace so long as the correct part is bought. You will need to find out what make and model graphics card that is in your computer first. I would say from the photo it looks like a fairly old ATI 3*** series card but you can check to find the model number by

Right Clicking On Desktop -> Click Properties -> Click Settings Tab.

It should say on there somewhere what type of graphics card. for example. My computer says

Display:
Plug and Play Monitor on NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT.

Copy that out onto your next post and I will see if I can find a cooler that will replace the one you have. Generally small fans like that on on there will often get whiney and loud as they wear out. My one on my old Nvidia 5700le went like it. It still works though.

You could try just cleaning the dust out of the fan as well to make sure it isn't just clogged but I would recomend that you get a nice new cooler for it and some new thermal paste and that will make it quieter and also run cooler. You may even be able to fit a passive cooler that doesn't require a fan at all meaning silen opperation.
