Keyboard keys getting stuck (when playing games)

Q: Keyboard keys getting stuck (when playing games)

I bought the HP Omen laptop about four days ago. The day after I bought it, I started playing games. From time to time (about every 15 minutes), my WASD keys would get stuck and repeat themselves in games (my character would keep walking). I would have to press the key, regardless of the amount of pressure, to stop the "key spam". I disabled sticky and filter keys, as well as made sure that the keyboard's drivers were up to date, and that the device wouldn't be in power saving mode (anyways, I always game with my charger plugged in). I'm sort of speechless, considering I bought this less than a week ago, and the keyboard keys don't have anything under them (I've been very cautious about not letting anything slip under there) and that the keys are starting to latch during games. Another speculation, it also seems to happen mid-way through games, usually when my CPU and GPU are at their highs, when my computer's temperatures are higher (75-85 C for both CPU and GPU). If anyone could help me figure this out, thank you!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I bought this laptop HP Pavilion Notebook 15-ab029tx on 2-Sep-2015 for ?53k. Ever since I bought this laptop I have been having problems while playing games. The Keys get virtually stuck after continous playing. The problem is not specific to a set of keys. It is aways random. If I am playing a racing games then any of the ARROW keys or the spacebar will get stuk virtually or if I am playing FIFA then W,A,S,D or the ARROW keys get stuck. The player will keep going in the pressed direction. I have to find out which key is malfunctioning and then de-press it to stop the malfunctioning. I have talked to HP Support and they sent a representative to look into the issue and they had to finally replace the whole keyboard. But the problem was still there. Then I got a BIOS update, that also did not resolve the issue. So I had to talk to HP Support again. This time the representative asked me to first check it with an external keyboard (I was running Windows 10 at this moment). There was no problem with the external keyboard. Then he asked me to format my whole laptop. So I reinstalled Win 8.1 from the recovery disks provided by HP and I am still getting the same issue. Also, I am not getting the free Win 10 update which I had earlier. I have done the following:1. Tried an external keyboard (no key malfunction)2. BIOS update F.81 - No luck3. Formating the whole laptop - No luck4. Unistalled the keyboard driver and restarted - No luck Please help and fix the ... Read more

Hello! I recently bought this laptop from USA. And had this problem a while but ignored it since it didn't happen so often. Let's take for example project CARS, when i play it and i keep pushing some keys for a while, they virtually get stuck and are kept being pressed like i still press them even if i don't, making the game unplayable. Even in shooters like Rainbow Six: Siege it is happening, the difference is that in shooters i don't need to hold the key down for too long for this to happen, only 3 seconds. But it doesn't always happen, the problem is that is making some games unplayable.

I have a gateway ne series laptop and I recently had a small spill on my keyboard. Needless to say, the entire keyboard shorted and now must be replaced. Until then, I still want to be able to use my laptop using a usb keyboard. My only issue is that the 'social networking' key is constantly sending signals as if I had pressed the key. I managed to delete the social networking app but the key remapped itself to the start menu. Since doing that, I downloaded a classic start menu program so now all it does is open and close the start menu in the corner. I'd like to know if there's some way to disable the hardware keyboard or somehow have the computer stop accepting keystrokes from the broken keyboard? I have the means to disconnect the ribbon cable for the keyboard but I've been informed it'll fail the 'post-test' and not boot up if I disconnect it. Thanks for any advice.

A:Disable Keyboard With Stuck keys

If you can get to Control Panel and just disable laptop's keyboard (don't uninstall it) it might stay that way even after reboot.

I dropped a bit of water on the keyboard - machine works fine BUT keys on the left side are sticky and the second problem is that it is so hard to put these keys back. I bought the laptop 2 days ago and I think I would exchange it.

Any advice regarding this problem - I would appreciate feedback about placing the keys back - it has been impossible to put them back - they do not snap - so frustrating - I think Dell beats HP heere

A:hp laptop = keyboard - keys stuck

If you removed the keys and cannot put them back, I think you are not eligible to exchange it as defective... you broke it. Please provide the manufacturer and model number so we can help you find a replacement keyboard and service information.

I have a g15 keyboard, older style (blue LED and flip up screen), that many of the keys are stuck. Awhile back, I took all the keys off to clean the entire keyboard. After cleaning I put all the keys back on with not much hassle. Ever since then, I notice that many of the G-keys on the left are stuck.( really hard to press down and will not come up after pressing) Is there a way to fix this so it will work better? I checked the keys and there is nothing in the way. The keys are also in the right position. Should I apply a little amount of light oil to help it? What do you recommend?

My keyboard keys will go in and out (sort of in a flickering way) whenever I hold them down while in games. Turns out that my keyboard was the problem since I tried a game with a different keyboard and worked perfectly fine, but what's the problem?

My ASUS EEE PC laptop keyboard has gone crazy. A few months ago I noticed that keys were getting stuck randomly, typing all Cs or colons or commas. I could usually clear this problem with the delete key and the problem would stop for a while during the session but it would eventually come back.

Then a few weeks later I notice that some of the keys would not work at all. Again this was random as some days certain keys wouldn't work and then other day they would start working again. Recently many of the keys completely stopped working.

A couple days ago eith one key either sticks or the whole keyboard won't work.

I have tried using canned air, popping keys off and cleaning them and even resetting the ribbon. I have now attached a USB keyboard and disabled the notebook keyboard and this is working but it is a bit of a hassle.

A:Keyboard keys are intermitantly stuck or not working

Perhaps I am jumping the gun on this one, but it sounds like this is a permanent hardware issue that will require either a new keyboard or mobo.

Have you tried going into device manager and completely uninstalling the drivers for the built in keyboard, then restarting?

I have a HP DV2550SE someone brought in that was beeping randomly and continously.
After a few minutes I figured out it was acting as if keys were stuck down and that was causing the continuous beeping.
If I go into the BIOS of the screen, I can see the time flying though the numbers as if the F5/F6 key was being held down.
This is the second keyboard I have put on this laptop...any ideas of what could be causing this? (Really hoping it isnt a motherboard issue)

recently i've been having some troubles with my pc while playing COD mw2, and Demigod.

sometimes when i play the game gets "stuck" for a few seconds, the sound gets "stuck" as well, and then it returns to normal. it usually happens more than once during a couple of minutes, and sometimes it never comes back on, so i have to restart the PC.

when it happens the GPU temp is ~73c but i guess that's normal.

i never had that problem before. i updated all of my graphic card drivers, and i flashed my BIOS to a newer version.

Do you have things running in the background? I have heard of that with some virusscanners, because they will try to scan while playing a game, which in turn slows everything down.

Hey everyone

Atm i have a problem where my keyboard is lagging only when i enter a game. For instance i will press W to go forward, and it will go forward for about 2-3 seconds then stop. This makes the game almost impossible to play and very annoying.

I have done some reading up about this problem, and people are saying it has to do with the processing power not being delivered to the keyboard. Some people suggest to change the priorities of the game form high to normal. But the game is already on normal priority on my computer.

Some other people have suggested its a fan issue. This may be the case in my computer as i ran "Speed Fan" a program to test the temperature of your computer, and its around 50C.

My specs are

Radeon 9550
P4 3.0
3 Hard drives one external
1 gb RAM
wiresless mouse and keyboard

I run windows XP, and when im typing like i am now, there is no lag or problem with the keyboard.

Games that it occurs in: All 3d games really, Halo, BF2, BF2 2142, COD2

A:Lagging Keyboard When Playing Games Only

Hi, I have been having a problem with my Spectre laptop ever since I got it(a week ago). Whenever I play games such as Unreal Tournament or Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, my character sometimes gets "stuck" going forward or to the left. In the UT tutorial where it shows the buttons that you press, it shows that the when it is "stuck" going forward like that, the W key is being pressed, even though I am not pressing it. I have disabled all sticky keys, filter keys and all that stuff as well as set my keyboard repeat rate and delay settings to high as suggested by other forums; However, I am still getting this problem. Any ideas on how I can go about fixing this? For reference, I am running Windows 10.

A:Keyboard "sticks" sometimes while playing games

Hi there @Studes1?Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that your character gets stuck going forward sometimes, in certain games and I am happy to help. Since you bought the computer a week ago, I assume that it originally had Windows 8.1 installed and you upgraded.  Did this issue also occur in Windows 8.1, or was it first noticed in Windows 10? Is this only happening in those games, or have you had erratic keyboard behavior happen in regular applications as well? If it is only happenning in those games then it may be a game specific setting that could be adjusted, for that I would suggest the game forums. If you have a sticky key issue, in all applications and considering what you have already tried, then I would suggest you use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp and create a case for your issue and contact HP. If you live outside the US/Canada, please click the link below to get the contact information for your region. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

So I've recently bought a few new games in one bundle and was excited to play them until, as the title suggests, the up arrow started freaking out and acted as if it was stuck in the main menu of Enter the Gungeon. After forcing my way through the menu to the main game, my character started walking upwards no matter what I did. I then tested with another game and had the same result.

I've tried three separate keyboards, three separate games, obviously i rebooted immediately, I've tried system restore, none of which have worked.

After looking up the problem, I've found people experiencing similar symptoms who managed to get around it by changing the power settings on their keyboard through control panel, turning off a 'USB auto-suspend' option that apparently was making keyboards stick after five seconds of non-use in a game. This didn't work for me however, as for some reason the 'change settings' button doesn't appear for me, even though I am an administrator on my computer, and my keyboard always behaves (in-game, anyway) as if 'up' is stuck, rather than sticking after five seconds. I managed to find the 'auto-suspend' option people were discussing through device manager and turn it off, but that had no effect whatsoever.

These articles have been my main resources so far, so that should give a bit of perspective on the nature of the problem and what I know about it/have tried so far. If anyone can think of anything not mentioned there that's worth tryi... Read more

See, I don't know how much of this problem has to do with either my games or Windows 10, but I do suspect it has to do something with power, because the general fixes that fix something like this caused by the game didn't work, which is why I'm posting here. When I open a game, there's a problem with keyboard input. When you hold down/spam a key or a series of keys (i.e. strafing with adadadadada, or just holding down backspace), it would pause and hold the key, and then resume typing the missing letters you typed in the maybe 0.2-0.3 seconds that it is paused. e.g. adadadad(pause for 0.2 seconds, 'd' is still being held down by the bug, although it doesn't show it is after the text catches up)adadadad(again)adadadada(again), again it doesn't have to be those keys, it can be backspace, or just one single key being pressed. This only happens when (and sometimes still after I close) I open a semi-heavy game. Sometimes after I restart the pc (once to multiple times), the bug would just still be there even before the game applications have started to run. Sometimes after I restart the pc, the keys lag as well. What I've tried:-uninstalling and reinstalling the games-resetting the whole pcWhat the problem isn't:-not a problem with the physical keyboard, I've tried 2 different ones-nothing with the USB ports, I've used other USB ports on my pc and it's still thereAny insight?

So the title pretty much says it all. The keyboard works fine, its brand new and the only time I have any problems is while attempting to play a flash based game on the internet.
I have already tried clicking the game box, this is not the problem.
I am using Google chrome and have windows 7 ultimate edition.
I think a recent update I received is causing the problem since it was working fine before and just started doing this.

If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you so very much

A:Can Anyone Help Me? Keyboard Not Responding While Playing Flash Games!

I might only offer some help, but you could try this:

uninstall both flash player (should be in control panel>uninstall program) and any keyboard drivers you have at the moment. Then try going to adobe's website and your keyboard manufaturer's website and download and install the newest flash for chrome 32 bit (make sure you get it right) and your 32 bit keyboard driver.

Hey guys, just three days ago I ordered a new-condition HP Pavilion 15 Liquid Platinum laptop. Since the beginning, I've noticed that when playing different video games, the arrow keys don't respond properly. For example, when playing a racing game, the vehicle in the game may not turn if I press down on the left or right arrow keys. If the vehicle does turn,
if I let go of the left or right arrow key, the vehicle may still keep turning. Also, sometimes by only holding down the up arrow key to tell the vehicle in the game to move forward, without letting go of the key at all, the vehicle may start to decelerate as if I did let go of the up arrow key. These problems don't only occur in just one game, they happened in almost every game I have tried so far, with some games responding better to the keyboard keys than others. I am pretty new to using Windows 10, so if anybody could give me some advice as to how I can resolve this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Lately I've had some problems with keyboard language. Whenever I play CS:GO (and some other games, but mostly CS:GO) the keyboard language changes from Norwegian to English. Since I'm used to the Norwegian layout, it's really confusing when it changes to English.

My keyboard layout settings are "Screen language: Norwegian" "Keyboard Language: Norwegian".

The taskbar language option has two options when I click on it, NO and US. In my settings I only have NO selected.

Anyone know how I can fix this?

Hello, I am new to the forums. I couldn't find anything on the situation, so I decided to take matters into my own hands.

I bought a custom built gaming computer with an AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series GPU, an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz Processor, 6.00 GB RAM, single Hard Drive with 297GB space, and my motherboard is unknown. But this problem only started to arise after I've been playing some of my Steam games.

Now, what used to happen was that Windows Media Center started to randomly pop up from time to time, which got moderately annoying, and rarely would my keys start to malfunction and do weird stuff. But after I disabled WMC completely, this "keyboard malfunctioning" problem arose more and more often, the worst being when I play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. What happens is, occasionally (or usually ) my keys will start to break down in function and do other stuff. Pressing esc minimizes windows, and all the keys start to have other annoying functions, which means I am unable to type anything whatsoever. Not only that, but it also affects my mouse as well. Clicking on applications in the taskbar asks me if I want this program to have permission to have access to my computer, scrolling changes the size of icons on my desktop, clicking on YouTube links makes a whole new tab, the list goes on and on, and this has gotten EXTREMELY frustrating for the past few days. This problem only started to arise and fluctuate as I have disabled WPC. Is there some... Read more

Install latest bios for the motherboard from Gigabyte.com.

Install latest EasyTune 6, which is from this year, for your board. (In Utility section of downloads.)

Install latest drivers for both mouse and keyboard from manufacturers' sites.

Your motherboard has both USB 1.1 and 2.0 ports. Use 2.0 only if possible and do not use any hubs, if possible.

Install this for the AMD chipset drivers and storage drivers. Both are at: AMD Chipset Drivers <<< (assuming you have 64 bit Windows)

OK im cant quite understand your thread that well but one thing I have spotted I have quoted above. You are runnging a VERY high end system here.
The Graphics card you are using requries a MINIMUM of 500w just to work and your using an ECO PSU of only 520W. Dont forget a PSU is nto 100% perfect so if you allow for a 5% error this may actually only give you a loss of approx 25W bring it JUST below the 500W requrie for the graphics card to run properly.

ALSO - the i5 Cpu your runnign as a TDP of 95W. TDP (or Thermal Design Power) is the maximum power that it would draw when running real applications. It could just simply be that your does not have enough power to run so it may be worth upgrading your PSU to a higher end spec say perhaps 650W.

Hope this helps

Hello, I have a question. My Lenovo Yoga 720 15.6" doesn't overheat, although I've noticed something rather odd. When I play Fifa 17 with the charger plugged in, the fans are very loud and the laptop gets pretty hot. When I play Fifa 17 on battery only (charger not plugged in) the fans are quite silent and the laptop doesn't get hot at all. Why is that? For all I know, I would expect the exact opposite...Thanks in advance!Kind regards,Tijs

A:Lenovo Yoga 720 15" : hot when playing games on charger, cool when playing games on battery???

The CPU runs at full speed when it is plugged in and runs more slowly on battery to save power.  Faster = more heat.

When i turn on the notebook it would ask me to log in but none of the keys would work so i would have to press the button that allows me to go back to where i can choose log into another users account. Then i would click on my account
at which time all the keys on the keyboard would work except 5, 6, b, n, and the delete key. I reinstalled the keybaords software but that did not make the keys work. I looked online and on this website for solutions to the problem but none of the 4 or 5 solutions that i read about worked for my problem. I finally wiped the hard drive and reinstalled windows 8 but the problem is still there. I wondered if something got under the keys of the keybaord themselves so i took a couple off and looked and there was nothing. I pressed the keys while their cover was off and it still did not work. If the solution you tell me works for me, tell me how come wiping the drive and then reinstalling Windows 8 did not fix the problem. I googled my... Read more

From time to time the computer behaves as if sticky keys and/or filter keys is turned on. They are not turned on in control panel so I can't just go there to turn them off. Running CC Cleaner sometimes helps with this problem. It is not an issue with the keyboard either. On a possibly related note, my homepage keeps changing itself to MSN. Thank you for any help.

Hello there. Yesterday, I bought the Ideapad 310-15isk, and it's phenomenal in many aspects. However, I'm a bit bothered by the extensive keyboard this laptop has, most importantly, the pagination commands on the arrow keys. I've been meaning to find a solution to disable those and just make them work on the Numpad since it's really bothersome to type on and then go all the way back because of the return pagination key. Is there any solution for this to unbind those commands only on the arrow keys?

Several days ago I noticed that these keys were having difficulty in responding when they were struck. Sometimes I had to press hard on the keys to get them to work until eventually they stop responding. I am wondering if it's a hardware or software problem. I used an external keyboard as well as the onscreen keyboard and they work fine. So should I replace the keyboard???......

This is an odd issue that I have not found anyone else having. I am not sure as to the cause of it.

Basically, when I press certain pairs of keys, the computer acts as though another key is being pressed as well.
Some examples:
q+s: qws
w+d: wed
r+y: ryu
k+u: kui
l+i: lio

There are others, as well as ones with 3 keys triggering a fourth. They follow no general pattern (although wd, qs, ku, and li are the same pattern
on the keyboard, that pattern doesn't cause a similar response on other keys, like ef, rg, th, yj, etc.)

This problem has persisted as long as I have had this laptop. I got it used on Amazon. It said that, in terms of condition, it just had a few minor
scratches and such, which is accurate.

This occurs every time the keys are pressed at the same time (in fact, while typing this, I was constantly having to correct typos such as "everyu",
"lioke",  and "whiole".)

I'm assuming you have windows 10 on the system.....
I'd suggest you check Sticky keys in control panel. You might have mistakenly turn it on.
At the left bottom of taskbar, right click windows icon, click on Control Panel, Ease Of Access, and then Change How Your Keyboard Works. If there's a check mark in box - Turn on Sticky keys) then uncheck it and click Apply.

Hi, Try the following. Download the AMD HD Graphics installer on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74501-75000/sp74716.exe When done, open your Downloads folder, right click the AMD Graphics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

My laptop refused to start up at first leaving just a blank screen, though I eventually got it to start up though it stays stuck on the Lenovo logo as long as it's open. I close it and it gets to the password login screen. When I open it, though the password Feild is flooded with characters that I can't see, because it's the space for my laptop, and yet none of my keys are pushed down so I'm not sure which keys are 'stuck'. I've tried compressed air, vaccuming it, running my hands on the keyboard, even turning it over and tapping it from the bottom so I have no idea what else I can do.

Hey guys,

I'm having a really big problem with my keyboard. I'm running windows 7. The problem started about four days ago, I've searched for various ways to solve this problem but I couldn't find any.

The issue is that randomly, my keyboard will stop typing keys and every time I hit a key, instead of typing a key, it would act as if I was hitting a shortcut. Such as, when it happens i hit the "F" key and the tools options come up. This happens on every windows even on MSN messenger, I hit my keys and it hits shortcut keys for the window I'm on.

I would be using my computer for a while and the keys would work fine but then a little later, somethings 30 minutes sometimes an hour or two, randomly they turn into shortcut keys. Every key i hit, I tried a new keyboard but it seems to happen also. I don't get the issue, I've scanned fully using malwareBytes, MCAffee, and Advanced system pro, but it's still happening. It's really frustrating and annoying when it does happen. I've turned my keyboard off and on, re sync'd. I'm starting to lean more towards it being a virus or something that messed with my settings somehow.

Malwayre Bytes did find something while scanning

files\Spigot\wtxpcom\components\widgitoolbarff.dll (Adware.WidgiToolbar) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

I'm really stumped here, I haven't tried un-installing my keyboard & re installing it but Idk what good t... Read more

A:Keyboard keys randomly turn into shortcut keys

I would also like to add that, when this occurs. I have to restart my computer for the keyboard to work correctly. It's wireless & I've tried a wired keyboard also, it's the same issue.

Also when this happens, while on the internet. Every time I click a link or the internet like "home" "news" anything at all on the internet even an image, it won't go to it but instead it will download the data into my computer... It's very strange & I'm completely stumped on what to do. Or to even search this on google for other similar issues, I don't even know how I would go around to search that. Or what I would type in the search bar. This happens with both Firefox & google chrome. Even outside the internet in just my desktop, it's impossible to type even on notepad.

They do  come  and go sometimes. After I sprayed some air to try to clear dust and crumbs it worked for a lil while but then started back. I do still see dust and will keep cleaning. Sometimes the keys are slow to respond or not work at all. It was working fine til a couple days ago. I even reinstalled the operating systems and still doing this. All the rest of the keys work fine except for a few in that row. I dont know if it was a update that caused this or a hardware problem but id like to get it working right agaln.

Hello all,

I've been having a few problems with my laptop since I bought it. The problem mainly occurs when I'm playing a game (usually xcom: enemy unknown or deus ex HR at the moment) but has occurred when I'm browsing the internet (albeit far less often). The BSODs appear to be random but I'm using a blue tooth mouse and have noticed the BSOD will usually happened if I'm using it. I've also noticed that my laptop screen with black out for a split second on games that are quite graphics intensive for my system.

Its been frustrating me a lot so I reinstalled and fully updated windows 7. The GPU drivers are all up to date also.

I've attached the SF file that is required and would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks for your time

I am using a Razer Arctosa keyboard on my desktop computer running Win7 (keyboard is approx 2 years old).

I am experiencing the following (recently, and sometimes it occasionally goes back to normal):

Pressing "w" registers "w4"
Pressing "W" (shift + w) registers "W$"
Pressing "4" registers "w4"
Pressing "$" (shift + 4) registers "W$"
(As if "w" and "4" are linked; occasionally it registers as "4w")

Pressing "u" registers "u" and F5.
(which means when I am typing and press the "u" it refreshes my page... this is the second time I am writing this...)

Pressing the Windows key registers NumLock toggle.

Pressing "7" registers "/7"

This is all of the weird ones I have noticed. All other keys seem normal.
As I type this it has done the above, but now it is back to normal. Cannot find a pattern when it decides to change from crap to normal. It is back to crap again.
This is the 4th day since it started and the computer has been restarted/shutdown various times.
I have also checked for malware and it is all clear.
The most recent keyboard drivers have been downloaded and installed, but did not fix it.
No liquids have been spilled.
Have searched the web and have not encountered a solution (or someone with the exact kind of problem).
Anyone has any idea of a fix or what may be affecting it?

A:Keyboard: some keys registering 2 keys

Pretty much every time I see this it's due to something spilled on the keyboard that has damaged it or just a keyboard that has failed.

Test it on another computer, if it does the same thing then it needs to be replaced. On the other computer don't load any drivers or software for it just plug it in and wait for Windows to install it's drivers for it and test it.
