just in case, CPU Overclocked by ~ 27-30% to 3.4 to 3.6 Ghz &
FSB to 200Mhz (50%) &
RAM XMP @ 1600Mhz (16GB in toto)
(More details in above report)

ISSUE:
-----------
This is related to my KINGSTON SSDNow 100V 64GB which is
- ~ 1yr old
- highly Tweaked and kept away from excessive or useless writes.(Read/Write Bench Marks attached) Only has OS and rest all data on my other 2 SATA HDD's
- Every major data chopping is done from a 7-10GB RAMDISK. (Read/Write Bench Marks attached)
- Temp folder of windows, Page file, cache of browsers and almost all apps (including printers and remote desktop) is on ramdisk for SPEED and saving SSD writes and increasing life.

SSD started giving me "NTLDR missing" error some 7 days back on my desktop running Windows Xp Pro 64 bit on a early morning PC Boot.
- AFAI remember this started without me doing anything special (any changes i mean)
- Initially, i thought NTLDR actually was missing and tried replacing it from XP CD using recovery console. But the files were there and it asked for overwriting (which i did though). Kept giving same error and PC was not booting.
(just FYI I have experienced NTLDR error some 8 months back only once and then NTLDR was actually missing; i had reset due to power failure issues then)
-I restarted & tried checking my ASUS P7H55 Mobo's AMI BIOS and to my surprise 1st SATA port said "NOT DETECTED"..which has the SSD connected on. HDD's were detected. Mobo has 6 ports (4 occupied with 2 SATA HDD's & 1 CD/DVD reader & 1 SSD)
- So the BIOS was looking for NTLDR in my next boot options ..the other HDD's..where there is no OS partition...so NTLDR error had to pop

B) I tried restarting some 4-5 times & BIOS detected it on same SATA port & cable (i did try changing ports & cables;nothing happened). I changed my Boot priority settings back to SSD and OS worked fine. Everything usual. Kept running for some 16hrs (i restarted twice in between too) and all fine.

C) Wake up next day..Boot up and same issue again. NO BIOS detection again > Did some restarts > Detects > Boots up fine and all fine

D) 3rd day the same and happening each day. So the first thing i have to do each F**king day is to manage this 4-5 reboot s**tty ordeal, for which i am not able to find any REASON at all.
WHAT i TRIED:
1) NTLDR issue is not the issue as proved above.
2) Tried Changing SATA ports and Cables of SSD.> No help. SATA HDD's etc all get detected.
3) Tried Reflashing the BIOS with same ROM (its on the most UPDATED version already). No help. (Don't all settings like Overclocking profile etc get deleted when we flash the ROM? That didn't happen though. surprising??). I used ASUS EX Flash Bios utility to Flash.
4) Wrote my previous backup'd OS Image back to SSD using Norton Ghost (that image was from past when there were no such issues). I tweak my OS often.. Adding/Deleting/Updating software, UI changes, Themes etc and back it up as a Ghost Image(saves lot of time & raw OS installs) > No help here too
5) Slapped the SSD a bit > NO help
6) Today banged head on keyboard.> NO help
Some more things:
1) Temperature at my place is dipping to seasons lowest of about 2-5 Degree Celsius % about 7-12 during daytime. (in fact lowest in last 20 years >apocalypse coming ) .Can a SSD be affected due to it and thats why doesn't show us to mobo's BIOS? I can try heating it up a bit and then booting up each morning to check this
2)I run norton ghost from a SD card in a card reader and then take image backups or write them on drive/s.
Don't know why but the following procedure helps me getting the SSD detected in 2-3 reboots ( it doesn't work ALWAYS)
Plug in card reader > Reboot and check BIOS (reader should show in BIOS)> Power Off cabinet(Wait for 20 Seconds till the mobo power LED goes OFF)>Reboot Power On (SSD probably shows in BIOS else reboot again) > Change hard Drive Priority 1 to Card reader and SSD to 2nd> Save BIOS > Remove the Card Reader and Reboot > PC boots up fine.
3) The issue of SSD dying comes to mind. Though as told i have kept my SSD in very optimum usage..even if not how come it gets detected in 2-5 reboots each day?
NTLDR issue is known in drive-dying cases.... but as detailed above NTLDR was not actually missing on SSD/OS partition
4) Even if i go ahead and think the SSD is dying(without any reasoning & proof) and contact local kingston service provider.. it might work there and they will return saying its fine. Further i aint in a big city and kingston service people take a week for products like SSD (Further private data is always at stake; even if i wipe it clean;even though i ain't a FBI agent)
5) I plan to installing OS on 1 partition of my HDD and then waiting for next day morning to see whether SSD shows in BIOS (and also whether it shows within the OS booted up). Is that worth doing?
6) Anything else should i do?
Any useful help or anything you ant me to do to sort this is highly appreciated.
Regards

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

i recently bought 4gb of ram to upgrade from 1gb,

but, when in install the ram [2x2gb sticks] it only reads one.
i have 4 ram slots on the mobo
i checked the bios, the bios shows 3 slots grayed out, except for the first ram slot, which is the one its reading.
so in a nutshell, my bios shows 3 grayed out "memory bank" slots
and one of them[the first one] shows 2048mb of ram.

what i tried:
i tried installing one stick [2gb] in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th slots, to see if the problem was that the mobo would [somehow] only read 1 slot of ram, but it seems only the first slot actually works?

do i need to get a Bios Update?

i woul like t opost my hardre specs, but im not too sure where to get proper info,

the best i could do is run dxdiag,

I am having difficulty with my ASUS SDRW-08D1S-U external optical drive. My computer is an ASUS UL30A notebook with Windows 7. The strange thing is that it was working initially, but now a few days later, it stopped working for some reason. If I go to My Computer, I can see my harddrives (C and D) listed, but not my optical drive. If I go to Control Panel, and click on Devices and Printers, I see my optical drive listed under Devices as SDRW-08D1S-U, with a small yellow triangle icon with an exclamation point on it. If I double click on it, and then click on the Hardware tab, it states at the bottom – “Device Status: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing.” If I click on the Properties button, it basically says the same thing, with the addition of: (Code 39). I have tried updating the driver, and it states that I have the appropriate and latest driver. I have tried disabling and enabling driver. I have tried right clicking on the icon and Troubleshooting.

Finally, I tried uninstalling the driver. And then when I plugged the drive back in, it states that the “Device driver software was not successfully installed.”

I am using the supplied USB Y cable with both ends plugged in. I have tried it also with only one of the two ends plugged in, and also with regular non-Y configuration USB cables.

I will add that I never installed the original software on the CD that came with the drive. I was about to install it when ... Read more

Hello all, I am working on an ASUS x205t. It had BIOS password that I believe I was able to remove. I am walking someone through this remotely, so that makes things a little challenging. Now, when the system boots, it no longer asks for the BIOS password, but it loads directly to the BIOS screen. I have had the end user press F9 to reset default settings, then instructed them to press F10 to "save and exit". End user states it still just only loads to the BIOS screen. Any ideas on how to get past this? Hoping to at least get into windows so I can remote in from there and / or at least see if we get an OS error message. Thanks!!!

Hello,

I am new to this forum, so please bear with me if I ask some noob questions.

I have a problem with my ASUS Vivobook S550CM. It takes to boot for a very long time (literally more than 5 minutes). But once I get inside windows 10 (I just upgraded last year) everything seems to be close to normal or a little laggy but still useable.

details:

Asus laptop comes with core i5, 6GB RAM, 2gb Nvidia dedicated graphics, 750GB HDD + 24GB SSD cache (Kingston SMSM150S3/24G)

I was able to diagnose and come to conclude that the problem lies in the 24GB SSD cache. When I tried to recover it back to Win 8 (original pre-installed OS) it can no longer see the recovery partition. Upon checking with utility software (belarc) I found out that the 24gb SSD cache disk already FAILED under SMART.

So i believe this is the culprit and immediately i searched online for 24GB SSD Kingston replacement and only found a used working item on ebay Kingston 24 GB SSD Laptop Solid State Drive SMSM150S3 24g | eBay

Now, my question is. When i get the item from ebay and install it on my ASUS laptop, Do i need to do something with the replacement 24GB SSD or i just swap it directly with the old defective SSD (by the way they have exactly the same brand and model).

Please advice as i have no idea on what to do.. I read somewhere that there has to be a set-up for IRST and etc... but i have little knowledge about it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi ppl....
Am totally new to this forum!!!
I am here cuz I have a real big problem!!
My config is as follows.....
Mobo ==> Asus Crosshair..
CPU ==> AMD AM2 3800+

RAM ==> 1GB 800Mhz * 2(Kingston)
HDD ==> 160 GB Seagate SATA2(7200.7)
PSU ==> 600 Watts Typhoon(I guess this caused it all):dead:
No addon cards and FDDs etc...
I added a new Kingston RAM and the new 8600GT XFX to my system today!!

But guess what after that the System wudnt just boot.................
I checked with an open case...the GREEN LED...on the MOBO(SB_PWR written by its side) wasnt lit.....I tried with a 550 Watt PSU of a frens....the system still is dead..........I tried removing the new stuff and checked again with both PSUs....it still doesnt work..........!!!!!!
I tried out my cards on an M2NE mobo they are fine.........

The system is simply dead............
Need it online ASAP.......I lost my warranty card stuff............

So can any of u dudes help me out.......
Cud u tell me what to look for or how to approach........

PLZZZZZZ PLZZZZZZZZ HELP mE OUTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:dead:

A:CPU BLOWOUT.....ASUS CROSSHAIR, 8600 GT * 2, 2 GB KINGSTON RAM, 160 GB HDD!!it sucks

It's best to start off as simple as you can with just one video card and one stick of memory, nothing else. Then try the other ones one at a time, you may find a bad one. If you know one of those PSUs worked you probably can rule that out.

I like to try with no memory at all. That should give a beep code through the case speaker. Then add one stick. If that doesn't work try another memory slot. Some mobos are picky and need a clear CMOS after changes.

I have a friends Asus x54h laptop that is not booting, and it is droving me crazy.

What is happening:
When the power button is pressed the fan turns on and some indicator lights turn on including the hard drive indicator light. Then the disc drive makes a noise and the hard drive indicator light turns off. Here is a picture of the indicator lights:

Nothing ever shows up on the screen.
Sometimes after running 1-5 minutes the laptop will just completely turn off.

What I have tried:
-Booting with just the power cord connected.

-Booting with just the battery connected.

-Taking out the battery and unplugging the power cord and holding the power button for 40 seconds, then plug in and try to boot again.

-Attaching a screen and pushing the keyboard buttons to add an additional screen. Nothing showed up on it.

-Taking it's hard drive and putting it in a good laptop. It booted into Windows and ran without issues.

-Replacing the current stick of ram with a new one from crucial.com. This laptop only has one RAM slot and I don't have any compatible RAM so I had to just buy one. I put it in, and nothing happened differently. Also, if I remove the RAM completely nothing happens differently. This made me think that there might be an issue with the RAM slot. I looked at it, and there seems to be something a little weird about one of the connectors. Here is a picture:

I am not sure, but I thought that this might be causing the RAM to not be detected. I used a ... Read more

I have found some bits that sound like my issue, but none that fix it.

It seems that I have had issues ever since the KB3133977 update. For some reason I never saw anything related to it, and ended up reinstalling Windows, or somehow recovering with a chkdsk in dos. My most recent incident is still active and I can't manage to get around it. Here is what I have done;

Freshly formatted Seagate 2TB drive with Windows 7 64 bit installed, got past the update problem and had all updates done and computer working smoothly. Started getting some things that I like installed. Mostly Wargaming.net games. Was able to use all of them with no apparent issues.

The last thing I did before it all went downhill was to install Adobe Creative Suite 4. Seems like I used Photoshop one or two times before I shut the pc off one night. The next morning it kept trying to repair itself. Booting from my DVD tends to tell me that the disk is not compatible with that version of Windows. I was able to run chkdsk /f/r. That took about 6 hours, but completed without anything tragic.

For the last couple of days I have been wrestling with this UEFI/BIOS issue, thinking that might be the answer. I have tried just about every setting. Some settings boot and say Operating System Missing, while others boot once, reset and got to system repair. I would love to remove the KB3133977 update, but since the OS will not start, I'm not able to do that in a traditional fashion. Could that be done through the D... Read more

I recently acquired a brand new barely used Toshiba satellite c55t and I slapped a 500gb ssd evo850 in it and reinstalled everything upgraded it from a windows8 pro I had. Then formated it and reinstalled windows 10 clean. I installed CIS Pro did the windows updates. And all of the sudden it started booting into PXE mode before windows booted. So I got into this atrocious UEFI Shell they have for this thing and looked around for the lan in boot sequence. The boot order was fine with Lan being last. Now I said the uefi shell was bad b/c I can't remove Lan from the boot sequence list. So it keeps booting PXE before windows and it gives me the option to hit esc and cancel out of it, I always do but its a pita and I'm wondering how I stop this from coming up when I can't remove it in the BIOS. If I straight up turn the LAN adapter off it works but then the LAN doesn't work at all so I'm basically stuck. Maybe someone has more insight on this issue I did a bunch of googling and I came up with nothing: everyone wants you to remove the Lan option from boot sequence...Well what if I can't?

A:Recently was given a toshiba satellite c55t and clean slated it but I'm getting a weird Bios Issue

Not 100%, but the best I've got;

1. On another computer, download the official LAN driver from the Toshiba support website. On Toshiba laptop, go to Device Manager, uninstall LAN driver and driver software (tick). Install the official driver. Reboot into BIOS. Set to defaults. Reboot.

2. Set BIOS to default. Clean format.

PXE usually points to a HDD issue. But you say your computer boots just fine if LAN is disabled? That seems super odd to me. I'm not sure if it is software or hardware. My two cents until someone that knows what they're talking about shows up.

hello experts,
I am facing one paculiar issue with my KINGSTON Datatraveller. When i try to use it, it is not getting detected. But the same is getting detected in my friend's machine. I thought it might be an issue iwth teh USB Port but am able to use and access other flash drives in my machine.

One thing i noticed is, upon plugging in the flash drive, it is getting detected under other devices but not under "USB Controllers". PFA the snap shot of the same

I checked with the registry entries for USBSTOR also and every thing is looking good.

My question is why my pendrive is getting detected in other systems but not in mine when i am able to use other drives in my system.

A solution for this will be highly appreciated

Hi guys.

I have been experiencing this problem for quite sometime.

My friend has an 8GB Kingston pen drive. It works fine on all PCs except mine. I can transfer data from the drive into my PC but not the other way round. Whenever I try to transfer files from my computer into the pen drive the transfer speed drops to a crawl and the operation invariably fails.

Also, I have noticed that data transfer speeds to and from my external Maxtor HDD is much faster than normal USB pen drives.

Any ideas?

I must also mention that the drive used to work fine before. But it was once pulled out of another friend's PC while it was being formatted as there was some problem. Since then these issues started on my system. However, no one else seems to have this problem with it.

Hello - I am trying to upgrade the memory in my Emachine T1440 with two Kingston 256 MB KVR133Q/256R. The two cards work fine independently or in combo with other memory but when I install both of them the computer will freeze after a few minutes of operating. After I reboot, the XP error message tells me that it's my graphics controller. This only happens when I try to install both KVR133Q/256R memory cards for a total of 512. IFor now, I have one Kingston 256 and one original 128 in the computer and it's working fine but I want to go to the max at 512. Is there an inherent conflict with Kingston and Emachine compatability? Any guidance appreciated.

It's possible that your Emachines motherboard will only allow you to use 1 memory slot. Try installing a single 512MB stick. Your system came with 128MB SDRAM. The Kingston 256 MB KVR133Q/256R should work fine... but afterall this IS an Emachines

I am running XP Pro, with Asus K8V SE M\B and currently Maxtor SATA drive.
I needed to clone my hard drive to a new one, as the old one was suspect.
I used Norton Ghost to clone my O\S and data over to the new "WD" SATA drive (which was connected via a sata-usb adapter for convenience)

When inserting the new WD drive in to the M\B, the bios wouldn't detect the drive at all (although Windows had previously). I tried all SATA connectors on the board, but no joy with detection.
The old MAXTOR drive was only 2 yrs old (80gb), and the new drive is 250gb.

I can't see any settings in the bios to detect the sata drive.

Any ideas guys?

Many Thanks

Nick

A:Asus K8V SE and SATA Drive detection

IIRC these old VIA sets with the VT8237 southbridge did not upport booting from SATA. I coud well be wrong and it might be that you have to install the VIA motherboard drivers for the SATA to function. Either way it is indeed a pain.

I would reinstall the old drive and make sure the SATA drivers are indeed there. Then I would reclone the new drive from there and stand back and see what explodes.

Good luck.

A:okay kingston ram issue only got three day before windows shutsdown...

XP allows so many upgrades before requiring the user to reactivate. The only thing you're not alllowed to change under the EULA for OEM software, is the motherboard. If it's a Retail version, you can change anything you want but can only have it installed on one PC at a time. If it's a legally owned install, just call up MS and reactivate.

Hello everybody, I really hope that you can help me with this problem. I've been checking different forums for the answer, as also Microsoft web pages but haven't found a clear solution.

I'm using a brand new ASUS A8N-E motherboard (nVidia4 chipset) and a Maxtor MaxLine III HD (SATAII). I managed to get it work somehow earlier, but yesterday I started-up my computer and when I got to Windows the SATA drive was not recognized. It's not even recognized in the BIOS. I have another IDE HD as a master (Samsung IDE) and this SATA HD as a slave. It worked fine for a few days but no more.

I have checked the forums of Maxtor and NVidia and there was something said that these two doesn't match well together.

Somebody told also that if you replace the Nvidia4 SATA drivers with the Microsoft SATA drivers the problem would be solved but: where the hell I can find these replacing drivers, I couldn't find them from the Microsoft web site I tried to do it from the XP CD but the installation is just offering me the NVidia4 SATA drivers, which are already installed to the system.

I have to get it work somehow and I hope that somebody could help me please.

BR,

Teemu from Finland

A:No-detection problem with Maxtor MaxLine III/ASUS A8n-E motherboard

Maybe the SATA drive is just dead? If it's not found in BIOS, then drivers have nothing to do with your problem. Check all the cables, put the drive in another computer and see if it is recognised there.

Hello. I have a Asus Z87A motherboard. It comes with Asus Realtek HD Audio Manager. Driver version 6.0.1.6954. This has no "disable front pannel jack detection" option.

I wish to have both speakers and headphones to output at the same time, and I used to do this with my old Gigabyte board, as well as a MSI Z87 G45 (which broke and I had to replace it with this)

Can you please help me? I tried this also without installing the Asus Realtek drivers (using default Windows 7 sound) and couldn't find a solution. I don't even have stereo mix, which I usually had with the MSI and Gigabyte.

Thank you in advance

edit: I also noticed that the rear jack detects my speakers as "front speakers". Is that the problem?

HI all,

I am having problems detecting the Xonar Pheobus and have tried all the pcie slots with no luck. Red and the grey - even the shorter grey slot.

Have disabled the motherboard's HD onboard sound too and still not detected in my devices......

The pcie cable is connected to the sound card and I have enough PSU to power all - Enermax 1250W.

When the card is inserted to the grey slots - The red light is seen through the control extension box (Headphone/Microphone Connector box) jack ports. However the green light is NOT seen AND the Xonar Phoebus logo on the card itself is lit (powered up)

However, when I insert the card into the red pcie slots these lights are not on.

One this else I noticed is the card DOES go warm over some time so tells me it is 'not' switched off........

I tried to install the driver and I get a message 'no card detected' etc etc.
Is there anyone kind enough to advise me their BIOS settings etc who has managed to get the Xonar to work properly. Did you have to adjust any BIOS settings from default to get the card to be recognised?

Printscreens would be cool if it is not too much of a bother.

Thank you in advance

Kind regards

Killershadow

Am I missing anything when attempting to install the sound card? I have tried with no GPU drivers (including the Nvidia sound for the GTX 750 ti sc) / disabled onboard HD sound and still the sound card not detected.
Even in this motherboard, it should detect the sound card regardless of what sound source is set as default and then allow me to install it and set it as default (without messing about with the BIOS)?
Maybe my sound card has died when moving it from the last computer - Static death.....................

Hello teamocil,I need for you to go offline completely and disable ALL your protective programs after you download ComboFix, but before you run it. Sometimes those programs interfere with it, and we don't want that! This tool is not a toy. If used the wrong way you could trash your computer. Please use only under direction of a Helper. I was trying to remove a raid0 install on my win xp machine, and restore the drives to a primary/secondary set up, (not sure the raid terminology for this setup could someone tell me?)
I have no real experience with raid setups and did not do the original install myself.

not really knowing what I was doing and reading various forums I think I managed to delete the raid setup (Im not sure how to confirm this) and then reinstalled windows on the primary drive.

After some monkeying around in bios and setting it to its default values,(figured a factory default would fix everything) I managed to get windows to install.

Problem - is I don't know how to confirm that my set up is correct (that the raid is gone and Im correctly configured) in the set up I want. Also, when my system loads the boot up screen is flashing twice, it never did before, which makes me think its loading first the primary drive and then the second one independently.

Im thinking I either haven't enabled something in the bios or there is some setting that still needs to be changed to have it read the drives normally.

Currnently under my Serial -ata configuration I have
Serial ATA controller {enabled}
RAid Enabled [Disabled]

Question #1) Should I have made any hardware changes? to cables or their locations, their positions or connectors on the mother board when I removed the raid0?

A:SSD chip detection in BIOS

What you are asking is not clear.  An SSD is a solid state disk. It is not a "chip". Are you having a problem with an SSD not being identified? Your device does not use an SSD disk it supports 32- or 64-GB eMMC (v5.0) flash drives. If you want to upgrade the storage capacity of your notebook, the only viable options  is a µSDHC media card.

Okay,

My acer laptop with windows XP pro became very slow almost to the point of freezing, then a msg came up reading "Windows is shuting down" with a countdown timer. (I've seen this message before when trying to close svchost.exe.) When the laptop restarted I got the message:

"NTLDR is missing"
"Press any key to restart"

Any key did not restart and I can't get around this problem. I can't press my precious F8 key to get into windows in safe mode, can't do ANYTHING! The only thing I can do is press F2 to get into the BIOS. It's PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility, System BIOS ver: 3A12, VGA BIOS ver: Montaro-GM 2965.

Please help me fix this problem, this is my mom's work computer and there's a lot of important information on it she can't afford to lose.

I've checked around on the internet and people say to reset BIOS, I don't know how to do this and I'm not even sure this is the correct solution.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me out, I beg of you.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING,

-Joey

ps: The laptop does not have a boot disk, nor a floppy drive, just a CD-ROM drive. I don't have an XP CD but my mom might be able to get one tomorrow.

Thanks again so much.

[Courtesy of ComputerHope]

1. Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer.
2. When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
3. Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.
4. Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter.
5. You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password.
6. Copy the two files indicated below to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the example below we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter "E". This letter may be different on your computer.

copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\
copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

7. Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.

It sounds like you have two installs of windows , as windows will not load without NTldr file .Did you cleanly install XP the second time ?on a freshly formatted HDD?
The bios might be readding the damaged ntldr of the first install.
In which case you will need to delete the first one. But I wold format and cleanly install to remove all of th remains of the first XP you should be able to grab all your data with the 2nd XP to make a backup

At any rate , go to the web site and download a copy of the Owner's manual for your MB .You can read up on the settings for your hardware. I f your not sure about some items , post back with your hardware profile and bios brand.
Also check for an update to your Bios while you at the site.

Working on my friends desktop computer and the BIOS doesnt detect the haddrive all the time. If i cold boot or reset the machine the harddrive is not detected. However if i pull the CMOS battery and power cord then drain the capacitors (by pressing the power button) and replug the power the drive is detected by the BIOS and starts booting windows (then freezes). The Computer can boot from CDs fine (from IDE cd drives). when i power up the machine without draining all of it's power/ removing the power cord the BIOS gets stuck detecting the SATA drive.

I tried the Hard drive in my machine it and worked fine so i dont think its a drive/cable problem. i also tried one of my known good WD drives in the machine and it doesnt detect it.

i have tried replacing the signal cable

default settings (no options for IDE/AHCI just enable or disable SATA)

i'm not sure if windows freezing is a 2nd problem or part of the first.

Hi all,

Apologies if this issue has already been subject of previous thread.

Over the weekend I installed an oldish ethernet card to run my desktop off. I currently use wireless, however, due to me thinking I will obtain a better speed through wired access, I now have this problem.

I installed card & downloaded driver from TP link web site. It all worked fine until I tried to use my Desktop the following day. Straight away I received " NTLDR missing". To cut a long story short I mamaged to get into XP repair section off installation disc ( after having to convert my keyborad from USB to PS2 to select ) & it repaired this error. It saved all my desktop features which I was very happy about.

I did have a couple of error mesaages during the repair regarding Bluetooth & kernel files which could not be replaced.

Anyway, I now find I cannot connect to internet ( wirelessly -as I have removed wired card ) or run most programs. I have no option to system restore either. Office programs will not run or media player etc. I can however run scans via Avast, CCleaner & Malwarebytes.

My PC is a Dell Dimension 4300 with 1.6mhz processor, 1GB memory, System HD 40Gb & secondary HD 80GB running Windows XP SP3. I am now thinking my System HD is faulty.

A friend of mine has offered to install Windows 7, but not too sure if this will be OK on PC with only 1GB RAM. I will also loose my MS Office which I have no installation disc for as I was a 3r... Read more

I had a problem with my PC when trying to look at my photos, it said they were corrupt. When I turned it on the next day I got the message NTLDR missing press ctrl+alt +del to continue, doing so just restarted the computer.

So I took the hard drive from old pc (we’ll call that C: ) placed it as the master, and made this pc’s hard drive the slave (we’ll call that G: ). When I turned it on, there were loads of messages for about 15 minutes about cleaning up corrupt files and such.

Windows started from C: and I copied what pictures hadn’t been lost since the last backup from G: to C: then formatted G: as I wanted to do a fresh install of xp pro.

After the format G: was showing as about 20gb still being used for some reason.

Now when I turn on the PC with either hard drive installed it hangs on the first red Compaq Bios screen that shows V3.8 at the bottom and I don’t seem to be able to do anything?

I really have no idea what to do from here so any help would be great.

It’s a Compaq Presario S5600UK.

Thanks .

A:NTLDR Missing now hanging on BIOS screen?

The hd is probably failing. I would test your original drive with the hd mfg's utility for checking drives. You would need to know who made your hd ie seagate, maxtor, western digital, etc. Go to that site and download their diagnostic app. It will run from bootable media ie CD or floppy. Now test the drive. If the drive checks out ok, you can zero fill it and reinstall your os.

Note I would pull / disconnect the drive you copied your files to so as to prevent any inadvertent erasing of your files.

Long story short, I had a malware infestation on my laptop.  I currently have run the latest versions of the following:

Avast - Full scan
MBAM - Full scan
adwCleaner
RogueKiller
Trend Micro Anti Threat
TDDS

Each one of these seemed to find things here and there, but I still have the problem. Combofix and aswMBR will not run due to "A device attached to the system is not functioning" error.

In Safe Mode Combofix will start to run but then I get a BSOD and reboot.  asw will come up but won't scan says "Error loading driver" when it starts then "Scan Error" when you try to run a scan.

I have two particular URL's coming up that Avast is currently blocking:
www.babaloonx.com and www.colboltuz.com plus one URL that is just an IP.

Any help is appreciated!

then about a week later watching another stream, the clicking noises began again only this time it shut my computer off. so i turned it back on and this error came up(No boot device detected. strike F1 to retry boot Strike F2 to run setup utility or F5 to run onboard system diagnostics.)
So naturally i clicked retry boot a couple million times but to no avail nothing worked.
So i ran my onboard diagnostics. and it came up with hard drive not connected. so i was like okay my hard drives fried. so i connected a different one... same error message

So now ive come here for solutions, ive never in my life resorted to posting online about a situation. but this is just insane. either the connection from my computer to my hard drive is fried, Both my hard drives are fried or something in the softwares messed up.
All im asking for is a solution... Thanks.

The hard drive is indeed toast -- if you post the model number (i.e., Inspiron N5110, 5521, etc.) someone can recommend a replacement drive.
If you did not prepare a set of recovery media when the system was new, you'll also need to contact Dell to purchase that now, as you'll need it to reload the operating system once you replace the faulty drive.

Hi guys

I've a Macbook Pro with the Win7 build 7000 running on it. Everything works fine except the microphone detection of the Realtek HD adapter. the macbook pro only has 2 jacks. one for the headphones and the other should be the mic/line-in.

By plugging in the mic from my headset, the realtek audio manager just shows me an input device instead of the microphone.
The built-in mic from the macbook works fine, but I prefer using my headset for skype.

Is there any workaround to fix this issue? how can i "tell" the realtek audio manager, that the plugged device is a mic?

I already installed the lates realtek HD drivers (2.18) and tried to assign the mic/line-in manually over the registry (Realtek HD Changing Jack output reassignments ( FIX )), but nothing could solve this problem.

here are some screenshots which are describing the issue. yes it's a german installation :-)

many thanks

Hi dumdidum and welcome to Se7en Forums

Referring to your first image, right-click on the BLUE socket and select Connector Retasking...

You should be able to set the appropriate option here.

Hi, first post here for me.. After successfully installing the latest version of Java (6.0.260) and then running the detection tool, it keeps telling me it does not detect Java on my computer. I've tried rebooting after install, uninstalling and reinstalling, using the offline version and every troubleshooting tip listed after the non-detection message. I'm using IE10 with the 32-bit browser. Java used to run fine until lately. I'd appreciate any suggestions on other solutions. Everything I've tried has failed. Thanks!

I just had to restart my computer after a system-wide lock-up, and after I booted back up, the OS refused to see my WIRED laser mouse! It's never done this before, and now, after restarting AGAIN, I find it STILL won't find it, or even my back-up mouse! Does anyone know why this is?

Hello NFSRacer,

Unfortunately I have yet the need to use Safe Mode in Windows 8, so I am going to give you a link that gives instructions on how to...

How To Boot Into Safe Mode On Windows 8 (The Easy Way) - How-To Geek

I would like you to attempt to load Windows in Safe Mode to see if the mouse is recognized at that point.

Also, this is a USB mouse? Have you tried other USB ports?

Hello all,

I've read just about every thread here regarding this issue and pounding my head into the cement floor!

For me, it started on my Gateway 5040 PC destop. (I think its the 5040). Anywho, I couldnt remember my admin password, so I did a recovery with back up, which didn't work, so I did the distructive option. Well, now I have a looping ntldr compressed issue. My PC won't boot any disks. Yes, the bios is set to cd/dvd rom first, then hard drive. I've tried the creating recovery disk as I couldn't load my XP Pro disk (that would not come up with a menu to recover or repair, just the ntldr error still). So, I created the recovery disk from here (How to create a bootable windows Xp recovery console disc.). Well, that is asking for a home edition (which I don't have), but one would think that does not matter.

So in all, I cannot load disks to recover or get to a recovery menu at all that works. I tried the command prompt with Alt D, but that only brings up prompts for c:\minint\System32\CMD.EXE. I dont ever get the windows prompts. :( Can someone please assist me in this? I've tried all that I know and have read.

Many thanks!

A:Another NTLDR Compressed Issue

Ok, I found this thread which is exactly what I have experiencing. However, where he states he can type D: and get a response, mine says "The device is not ready", and I can't get beyond that.

Thread in reference NTLDR is compressed press alt contrl del to restart

So I restart my computer and get this message just after the boot screen on my computer:

NTDLR is missing, press CTRL ALT DEL to restart.

No biggy I thought, I'll just pop the XP CD in and get it back.

Problem is, a few weeks ago I had to put a password on the BIOS settings because I didn't want a certain person changing them. This is the first time I've actually logged in. ALL the settings, literally ALL of them, are unchangeable so that results in me not being able to use the DVD ROM drive to load first instead of the hard drive.

Does anybody know how I can sort my problem? Is there some sort of default BIOS login code which gives me access to all settings that I'm not aware of or something?

A:Cannot change BIOS settings + missing NTLDR = nightmare

Hi there and welcome to TSF. The only way you can do this is by resetting your BIOS. To do this remove your CMOS battery for about 20 minutes and then replace it. Your BIOS should then reset to default settings.
