I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello BleepingComputer Community

I'm a pretty Technical Guy - and while recently fixing a friends system (removing viruses, malware etc), I downloaded and Ran - Combofix (being sure of course to name it.. something other then Combofix).

It went through stage 1.. 2.. 3.. 3b.. etc.. right up to 50.. -redrew the blue screen. - where i was informed.. not to run any other programs.. - the icons on the screen disappeared momentarily.. - then it said.. hey.. going to write the log file down. .in the root of C: drive. .- c:\combofix.txt - great - seen it before.. standard practice.. - all cool

POOOF ! .. - BSoD (Blue Screen of Death) appears momentarily on screen.. and system reboots..

Jumped into safe mode (with networking) .. ran through combofix again.. - this time.. it let me go thru all the 50 stages.. and WROTE the file down.. - no problems.. no BSoD

..any thoughts.. - suggestions..?

Thank You

I know this is a fairly common problem but I can't find correct advice to remove this file.

Elsewhere someone suggested using "OTC" which I did but it didn't take it out.

Any help appreciated.

Windows cannot access specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.
This error message is what pops up several times near the end of the setup for Combofix.
I cannot re-download and reinstall because hidec.exe is protected and cannot be deleted,
making further attempts to re-download result in copies and unable to install
Need help

Edit: Attempting to re-download the program results in copies of Combofix... all of them can't be removed

Today I noted that a folder named 32788R22FWJFW appeared in my C: drive. It has 7 Mb with several different files.
Is this any kind of infection?
Can anyone help me to get rid of this?

A:32788R22FWJFW Folder with 7 Mb appeared in my C: drive

What kind of files are in the folder? What names do they have?Have you used ComboFix? If so, be aware that it creates folders named 32788R22FWJFW.**.tmp on drive C: after failed attempts to run the tool. The folder can contain such files as PV.cfxxe, pv.com, catchme.cfexe and Combo-Fix.sys. It will also create a folder named Qoobox on drive C: to quarantine any infected files it found.Other randomly alpha/numeric named folders are commonly created and used temporarily when updating Windows components or by some software programs during installation to hold setup files (.inf, .cat, .gpd, .ppd and .dlls). These files and folders are usually automatically removed as part of the update process. However, its not uncommon for them not to be cleaned up and left behind after the update has been applied. When that occurs they can be manually deleted at any time. For example, when you run the MS Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT), a temporary folder with random alpha/numeric characters (i.e. C\79f142e5e9e574d23954) will be created on your C:\ drive that contains mrt.exe, mrtstub.exe and a file named $shtdwn$.req. Since external drives can be a hiding place for malicious files, MSRT will scan them too and you may find a left over folder in that location. Most of the time after performing a scan and you click finish or cancel, the folder will automatically be removed right away or after the next restart of the computer. If not, the folder and its contents can be manually deleted witho... Read more

Hi Guys,

Been trying to fix this issue for a couple of days so I figure I probably need some pro advice. I got hit with Antivir Solution Pro (the fake virus scanner) a few days ago. I managed to get rid of this but cannot no matter what I try fix the hijack feature on internet links (e.g from google), I have so far tried HijackThis, HitmanPro, RegTweaker and AVG to try and fix this. At the same time I seem to have been hit with the 32788R22FWJFW virus and am not sure how best to fix this as I'm not sure if its a coincidence, the cause or a symptom of the original problem. The HijackThis log is as follows, I would really appreciate some help as I am tearing my hair out atm!

Edit: I ment to add that most online guides to fix the antivir issues say to untick the proxy server option in LAN settings in the explorer tools. I do not have this checked nor have I at any point while trying to fix this. I don't know if this makes a difference.

My Malwarebytes detected this today. My computer has slowed down a bit on load up, and I've noticed that I am getting pop up ads that I wouldn't normally get on websites such as Yahoo. I'm not talking about their flash ads, either. They're random ads for ebay, etc that pop up on the top left of the Yahoo fantasy basketball website, or the bottom left of my chrome. It's not frequent, but I've noticed these occurrences and it concerns me. I am getting these on Google Chrome, btw. Also, MBAM did delete the infected file, but I want to make sure there is no further infection on my computer.

Thanks for your help!

My system is running Win 7 Professional 32 bit with 4gig RAM
I am experiencing a problem installing a piece of software - Laplink PC Mover - I need to migrate to my new machine.
The installer starts and the grinds to a halt with the error message:
"Error 1310. Error writing to file: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Laplink PCMover Professional\Visit Laplink.com.url. Verify that you have access to that directory"
I understand from Laplink Tech Support that this is a generic Windows Installer problem, and searching the web it seems to crop up a lot.
I have done a lot of searching, including this site.
I have tried the solutions I have found so far:

Run as Administrator [my user profile has administrator rights but I tried that anyway]Run from the Administrator user accountInstall in Safe Mode - Windows tells me the installer is not available in safe mode!!!Un-registering and re-registering the installer via msiexecUsing the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions
After all of this, I get the same result - the installer halts with the same message.
Can anybody help? I am desperate to avoid two days solid re-installing all my expensive software, finding product keys etc.

A:Error 1310. Error writing to file....Verify that you have access to that directory

I had tried a clean boot [disabling all non-MS services] but had the same problem.
In the end, I contacted Microsoft support who took remote control of the PC and reset permissions etc with "Repair Windows" from tweaking.com. Whole process took a few hours.
Cost me £65, but worth it to save my remaining hair!
Software then installed okay.

A:Error 1310. Error writing to file c:\config.msi... verify

What you do when something like that pops up, like during an installer, is you Take Ownership of the folder or file - then click the box in the installer to try again.

You don't want to take ownership of all of C: though, so what you can do is place a dummy text file there, then rename it exactly as the problem file that can not be written. Take ownership of the dummy file (just for good measure). Now, the installer can overwrite it.

8 is a little different security-wise than previous operating systems, notably at root of drives like your example.

Adobe is famous for this issue when updating stuff like Reader, even on 7 and below.

You'll sometimes see similar errors pop up in other ways when trying to run software, like access violation, or 0x00000005. Sometimes, it's just a permission issue with some data it wants to access, crashing the software.

There are other advanced ways to give yourself (your Windows account) similar admin powers like 7 and below, using group policy editor.

Recently whenever I've used an .exe installer I'll get an error as soon as I click start after choosing the directory, in the picture example I include below, it's of SA-MP, but it happens with any installer I try and use. Installers have worked previously, it's only recently it's stopped working.
The error is;
Error opening files for writing.

What I've tried;
-Full system scan with Comodo AV.
-Revealed hidden files and folders.
-Run the installer in both compatability (Even though it does work on Win7, and as an Administrator).
-Also done the scan on CMD (can't remember exact command).

If you need additional information, don't hesitate to ask.
Brief Info:
OS: Win7 Home Premium 64bit.

A:[ERROR] 'Error opening file for writing' whilst using ANY installer.

Installers are not even accessible to Admins. They are owned by trusted Installer. Have you tried taking ownership? See tutorials here on SF.

At start up my computer recycles check disk/scan disk. There are no errors found but after indicating no errors at the bottom of the check disk/scan disk report, the message Error In Writing To The Output Log appears. Then the computer recycles, starting up again and running check disk.
The computer will boot up to a linux/puppy desktop by using an OS cd which runs only from the CD and RAM.
Sometimes the screen which gives a choice of startup options appears, but not always. It doesn't matter though because the keyboard will not work and allow me to choose to start up in Safe Mode.
I cannot run the XP disk to do repairs-the computer freezes before the repair options come on.
One time, right after I bought a new power supply today, the keyboard did work and I, instead of choosing Safe Mode chose to let it alone and start regularly. Well instead of starting up the computer continued to recycle.
In order to get into the BIOS I have to take out the battery or else pressing Delete will not get me into the BIOS instead just starting up to Checkdisk and recycling.

Before doing anything, do you have another printer you can hook up to the LPT port for testing?

Check your BIOS setttings for your printer port. Try switching the port to ECP mode. Reboot and reinstall the printer.

Any ideas? Might this harddrive be bad?

I am as usual suffering from confusion.
I am using an HP A330.uk base unit with the standard dvd writer.
The computer knows it's there! The software knows it's there to the point of giving me the name of the drive and the fact it is +rw.

However having purchased 200 blank +dvds it only lets the program get part way thru a burn before ststing that there is an error.

The software states that it is due to a dirty blank disc (or fingerprints etc)

Is there something i am missing? Have any of microsofts updates been known to conflict with HP writers etc.

I tried using the same software on a laptop I own (also HP and also found by the computer) and again get write errors. Even when i attempt to use XPs own "Write files to drive E"

Any thoughts would be gratefully recieved

I've tried running them as admin, tried running them without UAC, and even tried to change the temp location from environment variables but it doesn't change. Is there any fix or an installer file I can download and reinstall to fix the microsoft installers? (win7 x64)

Have you checked what event viewer is saying? Type eventvwr in search. Go to the windows log>application tab and look for critical errors (they have red in the left column) that say app hang, app crash, etc.. note the event ID and source code and relay them to us

All of a suddly I can't burn CDs or write any files to them (Pictures, etc.) No known changes although Music Match is fairly new on my computer. But I burned discs from it before.
When trying to burn a CD from Music Match it gives me "There was an underrun error...."
When trying to burn a music CD from Windows Media Player it stops at the first track, says "Completed" but gives an error report that "an invalid alignment was specified."
I researched the underrun thing and have defragmented as recommended....still no luck.
When I try to put pictures on a CD it says that the disk is full or invalid or something.

Invoking Spell Check or any other Writing Tool brings up "Writing Tools internal error" in WordPerfect 12. I have both WP11 and WP12 installed on Windows XP SP2. WP11 Writing Tools work. I have tried editing the registry to remove Writing Tools and WP12 entries, uninstalling WP12, running Windows Install Cleanup utility, and re-installing WP12. I have repeated those steps and upgraded WP11 to WP12. The error occurs whether both WP11 and WP12 are installed or just WP12.

I have done all of the above many times and at one point actually got all of the Writing Tools in WP12 working, but a week later the problem returned. Oddly, WP11 Writing Tools always work.

The easiest option is just to abandon WP12, but I hate to lose a program I paid for if there is any chance of rehabilitating it.

I'm having a problem primarily with my CDRW. It's gradually come on and become worse over the past few months. I can write information to a CD-R disk, however when I try to read the information back off the disk, some of the files are corrupt. This has become worse, until now almost all the files are corrupt on any CD I write. Also I've noticed that the computer will often hang when playing a game/installing software from a CD in my CDRW drive.
I also have a DVD drive, and I very rarely have the same problem with it hanging if I run the same software or install from this.
I have changed my CDRW drive as I initially thought it might be dud, but this hasn't cured the problem.
I've run AVG 6.0 with the latest update and it can't find any viruses.
I've tried various settings for DMA on and off ect none of which seem to make any difference.
I've tried swapping the drives around (ie master/slave and which cable they share) but this hasn't helped either.
I've taken it to three shops but the problem seems to stump them...

My current system is:
Win 98SE
1.2 Athlon
756Mb memory
ABIT KT7/KT7-RAID mother board
primary master IBM HDD
primary slave empty
secondary master LITE-ON CD-RW
secondary slave Compaq DVD-ROM

Anyone got any ideas?

can someone help me?
i'am running win98se and i installed a "Hewlett Packard cd-writer plus series 8100" to my system the other day and everything loads fine no problem there
but when i try to copy or write to the cd-rw that i use it shows it is writing
till it gets to about 17 percent then it ejects and gives me a message
"there is a problem writing to this discs try another discs"
what i dont understand is they are new discs never been used.
i have tried "nero, flashcdburn, recordnow, etc. and all the programs show the same problem.
could there be a problem with the cd-writer or the discs itself that is causing the problem?
i was told that the writer needs to be on it's own ide cable and it's own power source to run correctly not sure if that is true but it was a idea.
oh btw the discs are "philips cd-rw 4-12x 700mb 80 min."

does anyone know what the problem could be any ideas would greatly be appreciated.

I finally got Win 7 and while I was trying to network 2 computers together, I ran across a program on the AT&T website called 'AT&T Troubleshoot and Resolve Tool' for finding problems with your network. I downloaded and installed it but right when it said Program Launching, an error message pops up saying "Error writing to temporary file. Make sure your temp folder is valid." I don't know what to do with this. I tried a few different things, putting the actual downloaded file (the one you can run or save) and saving it to username/appdata/local/temp and installing it from there. I thought about the permissions that I had changed (like an idiot) because I can't stand being locked out of anything, but then I read on quite a few sites that changing permissions doesn't fix it. So I left well enough alone. Maybe I should go back and change them back. But what concerns me is that on most sites that had something on this, the programs that was being installed (unsuccessfully) when this exact message popped up for them was a completely different program. They were all different programs. Someone was installing Roxio, someone else a youtube downloading program, someone else was trying to install Mozilla and got the same error message.
What's up with that? Is this going to be a common problem that 7 is going to have? The same error code pops up in both vista and xp too.

I have a brand new HP laptop that I have set up. I have add all of the updates, including Service Pack 1. I have tried to load Kaspersky Internet Security 2011. It downloads just fine, but when I try and run the file I get Error opening file for writing. There is no error code associated with this nor is the a dll indicated. Nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm about to pull out my hair.
thanks, p

A:Error Opening File for Writing

Welcome to Seven Forums Miss Peach. In my reading this appears to be a common problem with Kaspersky. The easiest fix I see people having success with is to temporally disable UAC, and make sure Windows Defender is disabled (some also say to disable firewall while installing). See if this helps you.

User Account Control - UAC - Change Notification Settings

Windows Defender - Turn On or Off

Hello Syter, and welcome to Seven Forums.

See if right clicking on the Quicktime installer, and clicking on Run as administrator may help to install with the needed access rights.

Hope this helps,

Hi there,Recently I was forced to upgrade my version of Messenger to the latest verson (otherwise I couldn't use Messenger anymore), however, towards the end of installation there was an error writing to the registry to create a particular key, which is: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{79D2A12A-1AEC-4124-9733-F4E0DE751578}\Programmable". Repeated attempts to install the latest version of Messgenger yields the same error.I've run regedit to have a look at that particular key and when I try to click on it, it cannot be opened. Copied verbatim the error message reads as follows:"Programmable cannot be opened. An error is preventing this key from being opened.Details: The system cannot find the file specified."I've tried using a free registry cleaner but that particular key can't be found as a stray key. I've had a look at Task Manager to see if anything suspect could be running in the background which renders this key being unable to be found - nothing as well, unless I'm missing something. In terms of permissions for the relevant keys, I appear to have the necessary persmissions to edit so it doesn't seem to a permissions problem.I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium edition. What could be the cause of this and is there any way to get around such an issue? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Screen shots uploaded as well. Many thanks!

I am trying to install Macrium reflect. It gets part way through the install process before an error dialog pops up

Installer Information
Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\Macrium|Reflect\Reflect.exe

I have tried running the installer as Administrator
I have tried going to C: drive security and giving myself full access to eveything
I have tried to access the Administrator account by going to a command prompt and typing net user administrator /active:yes . I get System Error 5 Access denied

None of these things work

As a side note, I have had a gutsful of Windows 10 always asking me for Admin permissions to do routine stuff like installing software and running exe files. I installed this OS on MY computer, so I ought to have unlimited and unrestricted Administrator access to do anything I like. Why is this not happening?

NOTE: My account information says "Local Account Administrator". Go figure!!

Giving your self full rights won't help as it's an install so it's running as a system install and it's system not you that needs rights. Have you checked the drive for errors as that would also give the error if there is a. Fault

I have a Sony CD-RW CRX140E and have suddenly experienced a problem recording onto NEW CD-RW discs. I operate under Windows XP. I use Windows Explorer to drag images, or whatever, onto the disc. The message I receive in the Writing Wizard is: There was an error in the writing process. The disc you have attempted to write may no longer by usable.
I have also attempted to use NERO and get error messages:
1. Write protected.
2. Invalid writestate.
3. Could not perform EndTrack.
4. Simulation failed at 4x (600 KB/s)
I have tried different speeds, same result. I have also tried different makes of CD-RW discs, all good makes, same result. The discs are not faulty.
I don't have a problem recording onto CD-RW discs already in use, or those I have erased to use again. CD-R discs are also okay.
Can anybody help.
