ThinkCentre M90p USFF Front I/O header pinout (Audio, USB, Power) 45J9567

Q: ThinkCentre M90p USFF Front I/O header pinout (Audio, USB, Power) 45J9567

Dear community, I found a M90p USFF system board in the garbage, fully functional when tested. But without the case or anything else. Repairing, especially old hardware, is something I really value: make something work without having to buy new stuff. I was planning to build my own home-theater mini-pc, and already have standard USB-Audio Front I/O panels, and power buttons, and almost all the rest.Lucky me, so I only need the heatsink, power adapter, and the pinout for USB, Audio and power (the system board was set to restore power automatically, so I could test. But eventually, I want to switch it on with a power button like a normal computer). - I found https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre-A-E-M-S-Series/ThinkCentre-front-panel-connector-power-audi...but the number of pins is not correct.- Pictures I found of the Front I/O 45J9567 are not good enough to really see anything. All wires are within a plastic tube, so no luck either. Can somebody help me out? Are there schematics of the system board? Nowhere I found information of the pins. AC97/HD audio headers look differently, and USB headers normally have a 5+4 pinout (with the M90p USFF it's only 4+4). The hardware manuals I found, only describe the set of headers, but not the exact pinout. kind regards,Tim

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a ThinkCentre M81. I am currently trying to put the guts of it in a different case, so that I can add some more disk storage to it. I have checked all of the guides I can find on the Lenovo Support site, and they just show the location of the connector, and how to repalce the front panel.  I am trying to connect standard ATX front panel connections to my M81 motherboard, which I am having some trouble with, due to the Lenovo front panel connector just being one big connector. I am just wondering if this information would be in a resource I missed somewhere, or if I have to trace out the wires.

Hello! I was wondering if I could have an expert help me out with a project. I ordered a board, and need the pinout of the front power connection for manual power-on without a header. The Designator is J98 on board HP 603887-001 on a HP Proliant DL165 G7 system board. Item #25 on the service manual. All I would like to do is power test the board with no FP button. Thanks, glad to be here and using HP equipment. Jacob M.

Hi all!I've recently got an used M90p USFF 5296-W1D which I'd like to upgrade with RAM and HDD: In the HMM is stated 4GB RAM limit - is this still true or was it only at the time the manual was printed? If not: what is the max RAM possible? 8GB or 16GB? There is no mention of max HDD size - what is the limit? I have seen in the past different limits with some controllers (137GB, 2-3TB) and would like to know if a 10TB 3,5"HDD is useable without ID11 disc controller error. Cheers

Should I plug my front panel audio pins into the sound card or motherboard? Because the last time I used my sound card's front panel connector, this happened.

http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/982302-monitor-stuck-power-save-mode.html

I'm not sure if it's the sound card (Asus Xonar DX) or the headphones that's at fault here but would it be safer if I used the motherboard's front panel connector instead? Both plays HD audio btw.

Edit - I also want to know if there will be any problems if I use the sound card for speakers only while I use the motherboard for the front panel.

A:Front panel audio header

The safest thing would be to plug the headphones directly into the sound card.
That would avoid any potential problems with the front panel connections.

Did you fix the problem at the other topic you linked to ?

Hi! I've been trying to fix a friends PC, and the problem is, when the cabinet's front panel USB connectors are connected to the corresponding headers on the motherboard, no power comes through for the machine to start.

It's kind of hard to explain, so I'll go blow by blow;
1. PC starts fine when the front panel connectors are NOT connected.
2. If I connect the front panel USB connectors to the motherboard, the motherboard power LED is on, but is dimmed or dimmer than normal(no USB devices connected). Pressing the power button results in nothing. By nothing, I mean no fans start, nothing.
3. There are two sets of front panel headers on this motherboard, both same story.
4. Tried known working PSUs...same result

The motherboard is an ASUS P5KPL AM-PS, Intel E7500. Is this a motherboard issue, or are the cabinet USB ports at fault here? Is there a way for me to get around this? Any inputs would be appreciated. Thanks.

A:No power when front usb header is plugged

I suspect the front panel USB header that plugs into the motherboard isn't wired to match the motherboard pinout, and it is shorting the PSU +5V or +5VSB output.

You will need to check the motherboard manual and verify the red (+5V and black (GND) wires are on the correct pins. Although the pinout has been standardized over the past few years, it hasn't always been the case.

Also be sure the front panel USB isn't plugged into a 1394 connector on the motherboard (they look the same). And if the case also has front panel 1394 connectors, be sure they aren't plugged into a USB on the motherboard.

Just building myself a new pc - pretty much good to go on everyting, but im having a little trouble on the front panel audio header and my case!

Firstly - my case is a Coolermaster Caviler 3 and my motherboard is an ECS NF650iSLIT-A.

The front audio leads from my case are labelled:

Ground
Mic-In
Mic-Power
L-Out (2 Pins)
L-Ret (2 Pins)
R-Out (2 Pins)
R-Return (2 Pins)

which is fine, except when i looked through my motherboard manual at the pin layout on the front panel audio header they are as follows:

Pin 1 = Port 1L, Pin 2 = GND
Pin 3 = Port 1R, Pin 4 = PRESENCE#
Pin 5 = Port 2R, Pin 6 = Sense1_return
Pin 7 = Sense_Send, Pin 8 = KEY
Pin 9 = Port 2L Pin 10 = Sense2_return

Any ideas as to where exactly these cables plug?? Obviously GND = Ground, but apart from that - can anyone translate the pin layout names into something that will correspond with my case leads??

First time ive ever seen a motherboard with the layout labelled in this way and im buggered if i know what goes where!! lol

Thanks in advance all

Just got a pimped out new case - every side has a full grill of holes on it! Anway, it came with front USB, 1394, and Mic and Headphone jacks. The USB and Firewire connectors worked (i had to connect each wire individually to the motherboard, on each pin), but the Mic and Headphone jacks won't work. I believe the main problem is that i have both onboard Audio, which i'm not using, and the SB Audigy 2 ZS, which i am using. In the bios, the onboard audio is enabled still, but i set the Audio Access Mode to "PCI." It didn't help. Would disabling onboard sound altogether help? Any other suggestions?

A:Case-Motherboard Confusion: Front Audio Header

Howdy Atwixtor...

Did they work with the onboard audio ?

Because if I'm not misstaken ( and I could be ), the front panel connections will only work with the onboard audio ( check to see if there are any connections on the SB Audigy 2 ZS for the front panel connections )...

Also don't know which motherboard you have, but there may be a jumper setting that will enable the PCI card for the front panel connections...

There have been a few threads about the propreitary 14pin PSU connectors and that there's no aftermarket support for upgrades. But it's been a little while, and Lenovo (around the office, my staff are calling them "Le-No-No" now) hasn't change policy, or offered an upgrade.

We have just received several of these i7 PC's and they all have the useless 280w PSU's. Those are severely limiting in what video cards can be installed, as anything over 55w will knock the PSU over. That means, no decent cards. A Quadro 2000 is, at 51W, about as far as we can go.

My CDW rep has been working to find a solution for us, but without any success. So I'm bringing it to the community before I have to re-evaluate our desktop hardware choice.

Has anybody made either an adapter or a PSU that will work on the Lenovo 14-pin motherboards?

(Oh, and yes, I've read http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/A-M-and-Edge-Series-ThinkCentre/M92P-14pin-power-supply-connector/m-p/84... . No help there. Thought I'd post a clear question here in hopes that someone has started making adapters.)

I have a ThinkCentre M90p on Windows10 Home that no longer sees cd's or dvd's in the drive. I've been searching for fixes for a couple days now, and none of those worked. The Device Mgr sees the drive, drivers are up to date. I've uninstalled the drive (through Device Mgr) and rebooted, it reinstalled but still does not detect a DVD in the tray. I've tried a Driver collection program (1-click find and install) but it didn't find any problems with that particular driver, I've tried a Registry fixing program but it didn't find any problems to fix there. I know it worked when I bought it because I looked at a couple of old picture cds then(July/17), but haven't needed it again until yesterday. I did find a post about cleaning the lens, but I have no clue about taking the drive apart to get in there to do that so I thought I'd ask here if there were any other ideas first.

Speccy used to detect them.   How much capacity doe the M90P have?  Will it take two 4gb sticks?  BTW, I'm running Windoews 10 Home. I've read conflicting stories.   Thanks.    Gary

Hello, I moved my z420 workstation mainbaord to a different case (Fractal Design R4) and keep running into the screen that notifies me of different panels not being connected. So far I was able to solve the issues with: Front Panel Audio, USB2.0 and ieee1394 due to searchin through the HP Forums and figuring out which pins need to be connected to ground in order for the mainboard to pass the test.One issue I can`t seem to figure out / get to disappear is "939-Front Panel Usb 3.0 not connected".I have connected the USB3.0 cable from the case and it still displays this issue - reading through the forums I came accross that z420/z620 have a USB3.0 redriver .Do I need the original panel to make the board believe that usb3.0 is connected? Is there any other way of fooling the mainboard that usb3.0 is connected (similar to the detect pins with audio and usb2.0?) Since the pc will be running 24/7 as small fileserver, I don`t really need front usb3.0 - I`d rather have it boot normally after a power failure and not needing to be physical present to press f1 for it to bootAny help on how to solve this is highly appreciated

Does someone know where I can get the pinout for the 10 pin header called "PB/LED" labeled P5 (connector) on the MS-7860 Ver 1.2. (Pro 400 G1 MT)? I have seen manuals that avoid that connector. Note the "missing or key" pin is exactly in the middle (pin #6). I have seen many diagrams with the key or missing pin at one end. That is not my board. This is where the cable containing the power switch (not to be confused with power supply) meets the Motherboard. I am replacing a failed Motherboard (three Months out of new Warranty with no physical indications of damage) with an ASRock H97M Pro4. I has every other connector perfectly wired. The only one I will have to "convert" is P5 (on the very outside edge of the SATA port corner). Thank you for your help.

Replacing with NON-HP motherboard voids the OEM license for Windows.  That will be another setback for you. Been a long time since that pinout question was made.  Do these help?

HI,  I'm trying to use this motherboard in a different case and the USB headers are non-standard 12 pin. I've read th article below which is for a different model and shifting the header connector 2 pins along doesn't work on this motherboard. I tried both headers, 2 diff motherboards and checked they are enabled in the BIOS. Any help would be greatly appreciated.   https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre-A-E-M-S-Series/ThinkCentre-A60-front-panels-power-audio-and...

I'm working on an issue with a Lenovo M90p desktop running Windows 7 64bit. It's connected via cable to a router that works for other devices. the cable has been tested with other devices, so I've narrowed the issue down to this physical device. The Windows troubleshooter is unable to fix the problemI tried to disable and reenable the network adapterI've tried to restore to a point in time before the issue started which didn't change anything.I've tried to uninstall the adapter via device manager and rebooted but Windows couldn't find the driver by itself. I've downloaded the intel ethernet driver from lenovo site manually from a different computer and installed it but it didn't change anything.Do you have any suggestions to possible next steps?

Puchased 2 Think Centres from a local university. No operating system on either. Tried installing Win 10 with media creation tool on flash drive then the ISO on DVD. The Windows logo comes on the screen and freezes. After about a min, it says something went wrong and restarts only to the same result. Someone said I need drivers but can you install drivers without an operating system installed? the units originally had Win 7.

Hello everyone,                        I've just salvaged a ''Thinkcentre'' 7359 from my office and i want to do a full upgrade.I found out here that it supports Q9550 but it is way too much money now (ebay around 45$).My goal is to make a budget upgrade max 25$ for the processor and 30$ for 8 or 4 gb of ram. I've used ssd from my old computer and even now with 2 gb of ram and intel e5300 runs well but it lags on x265 hevc codecs. I want to use it as a media player connected on my tv and I want it to run 1080p hevc smoothly.so my question to you all is what quad processors can my little m58 take and run.p.s.-bios is upgraded to the last version

Hi, am having trouble getting the two front USB ports to work. I even swapped out a perfectly working front USB panel from another identical M91. But no luck so far. Both machines running identical Windows 10 without issue. Note that although the USB ports aren't working, the audio ports still work as they should. Any thoughts?

I am installing an Intel motherboard into a case that is equiped with 2 front panel USB connectors. The case came with no documentation.

What I'm looking at is 2 sets of 4 wires each labeled as follows:

a)USB1+ (yellow)
b)USB1- (green)
c)VCC (red)
d)Ground (black)

e)USB2+
f)USB2-
g)VCC
h)Ground

I found the following on the intel site:
1. USB_FNT_PWR
2. USB_FNT_PWR
3. USB_FNT 1#
4. USB_FNT 2#
5. USB_FNT 1
6. USB_FNT 2
7. Ground
8. Ground
9. Not Connected
10. Not Connected

I am assuming (yes I know what happens when you assume that:
USB_FNT_PWR = VCC
and
USB_FNT 1# = USB1+

Can anyone confirm this?

Hi everyone - I am having one heck of a time with these ThinkCentre M90p units when trying to upgrade to the latest (Creators) build of Windows 10.  They keep losing the MBR and thus show the primary partition as "RAW" instead of NTFS as it should be.  This happens about half way through the upgrade when the system reboots.  It comes up to a BSOD 0XC000000F immediately upon attempting boot - this is, of course, because the primary partition is unreadable. Now, I have seen at least 8 of these systems do the exact same thing.  All hardware passes diagnostics with flying colors, so I know it's not a failing hardware issue.  I have done some Googling and have found where other people are having a similar issue, but none of them mention this particular model of Lenovo ThinkCentre. To test further, I did a FRESH install using an Anniversary build (1511) and then ran the latest upgrade to Creators (1607) from inside the freshly installed 1511 build.  The same problem occurs every single time.  Any ideas?  I know some of the posts I've found online state that running Windows in UEFI mode with GPT takes care of the problem.  The issue is that these units do not support UEFI (at least from what I can tell...)  Thanks in advance for any assistance that you can provide!

Hello everyone.

I searched about this and I found an old thread:
I need USB 3.0 ports but I've no available PCI slots for a card.
But in the end, the OP did have a PCI slot, so his problem was solved.

Now my case:

I have a friend whose computer NEEDS a usb 3.0 port but, the computer is an Ultra small form factor (usff) optiplex 755. Now, in page 8 of the following link I found the motherboard schematics (page 8 is the computer in case):
http://www.dell.com/downloads/global..._techspecs.pdf

As you can see, there are NO pci slots whatsoever. So my first choice was to unplug the front panel and replace it with a USB 3.0 however, when I saw the schematics, the front panel for USB ports is soldered to the mobo.

So in the end, I cant add it via PCI slot, neither can I add it via front panel. The only solution I was thinking of, was to add this via SATA, or something (RAM slot?).

I am wondering if anyone here, knows of such a cable. Something that can split the SATA (power and data) cables to the hard drive and give me an extra usb 3.0 port? is that is even possible?

If not, is there any way to add this usb 3.0 port to it?

P.S. i see a "Battery" slot on it (page 8, item 7 in front view), what is that for? and can that be my usb 3.0 slot?

A:I need to add usb 3.0 to USFF without PCI slots or front panel cable.

An OptiPlex 755 is a relatively old PC. But there is a PCI slot, according to the Dell manual. You would need a PCI card that is a "Low Profile" type. If you can find a USB 3.0 low profile card, that is the only option.

I replaced a eMachine mobo (I believe the model is Trigem Imperial -G),
for a friend. She purchased the used mobo from a computer repair shop
after her original mobo went bad. The PC boots up/runs no problems. The
computer repair store had no literature so I guessed at connecting the wires
that go to the front of the tower. Now the only way to power off the PC, is to
shut off the power supply itself. I could not find any info on the Web, except
the jumpers for CMOS, Password, etc. Managed to talk an eMachine support
rep, no help. What I need is a diagram/pinout how to connect the wires
going to the front of the tower(LEDs for power, disk drive, power switch etc.)

HI, I have a Sony Vaio RS720g that I need a Front Panel Pinout of the Motherboard to be able to connect the Power Switch and Led's. Someone attempted to install a different board in the case and changed the front panel wiring to another board. I then inherited the problem and can get no help from Sony. Says it's a secrect. Any help would be appreciated. This MB has PTGD-VX stamped on it.
Oh yea NEVER BUY A SONY. Thanks

A:vaio RS720g motherboard front panel pinout

the pin out should be standard as follows: 2 rows of 10 pins with gaps. Providing you do not leave things connected permanently you cannot damage anything - it might stop but thats all. Pin 1 is commonly the furthest away from any corner.
1 = pwr led +
3 = pwr led -
5 = pwr led -
7 = null
9 = null
11 = null
11 = null
13 = spkr
15 = null
17 = null
19 = spkr
next row
2 = HDD +
4 = HDD -
6 = null
8 = null
10 = null
12 = pwr
14 = pwr -
16 = null
18 = reset
20 = reset -

hope this helps.
