Q: Error: Could not find recovery environment!!! Help please!

Hello every one!!!

I am new here and am desperately seeking help from experts on an issue which I am facing...

Due to some reason I wanted to reset my laptop to factory settings and have initiated the process by creating the recovery media through a usb drive and have created a copy of recovery on it successfully...

(It has given the message of recovery was finished successfully, label it and store in a safe place)

Then I tried to reset my laptop by pressing the "Reset" option (with the usb connected) but surprisingly it is throwing an error.

"Could not find the recovery media"
"Please insert widows installation or recovery media and restart"

(Note: I don't have any thing in the USB apart from recovery image)

Please people I need your expert advice on this as it is very much in emergency to reset my laptop.

Any help is much appreciated

Regards,

Manoj

Preferred Solution: Error: Could not find recovery environment!!! Help please!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Error: Could not find recovery environment!!! Help please!

Try booting from the USB drive without pressing the recovery key on the laptop. let it run the recovery from the thumb drive not the hard drive.

@Homely Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! The only "free" way to recover your PC is using the HP Recovery Manager, which is generall invoked by rebooting the PC and pressing F11 repeatedly until the Manager comes on screen. Unfortunately, if the Recovery partition become corrupted or is tampered with in any way, the HP Recovery Manager will often refuse to work. The ONLY way to do a Recovery in this situation is using HP Recovery Media, and you have to order that from HP, and it is not free -- generally it costs around $50 USD. Regarding an infection, I have used MalwareBytes (MBAM) for a long time and have found it to be one of the best AV products around.  So if the current MBAM version (v3.0.6.1469) does not find any malware, I doubt you really have any. Also, if you're running an old version of MBAM, you should download the current version from their website and run it:  https://www.malwarebytes.com/ As to performance problems, maybe something in this might help:  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Software-and-How-To-Questions/My-Computer-is-running-slow/td-p/...Good Luck

May I ask what brand and model your computer is? There might be some instructions on using the recovery partition that I could find for you. Unless, you built the computer yourself, then you'd need your installation disc and key, unless its changed since I last installed windows 8 on my computer.

Hello dear friends,

I believe that I have some serious problems in my laptop. I will list some of them, and I hope that maybe someone can help me out because I'm getting crazy with these issues!

1. I cannot use recover options in Windows 8.1 because it says "Could not find recovery environment".

2. When I go to Advanced Start up, under Recovery menu, it does not show Troubleshoot option.

3. When I try to Create a Recovery drive, it says "We can't create a recovery drive on this PC".

4. When I try to enable/disable "reagentc" in CMD, it says "Operation Failed:3".

5. I cannot access in Bios, since I bought the laptop, and therefore I cannot re install a fresh copy of windows with my flash drive.

Basically, I'm stuck.

Hope someone can help me!

Welcome to EightForums

Have you made the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

   Information

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD. (Windows 8 only)
Recovery Drive - Create with USB Flash Drive in Windows 8
System Repair Disc - Create in Windows 8 (Windows 8 only)

I would recommend you making the OEM manufacturer's Recovery DVD's or USB drive.
or
You can order the Microsoft official OEM Recovery disks from the OEM manufacturer's website.

Did you upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1?

Hello after reading the whole topic about this i still need some help.
I used easeUS Partition Master, and that broke the link to the recovery. I fixed it but somehow it snapped again.

On the screenshot you see that Windows RE location is empty, somehow i can't seem to fix this.

As i can see the recovery image location is right.
For both i checked the offset twice, i changed their ID's (because it said OEM etc)

Thanks in advance.
ps. Just found out that i posted this in the wrong part, can someone change this?

A:Could not find recovery environment

- Post a screenshot of "list partition" and "reagentc /info".
- Open a command prompt as administrator and type (or copy and paste) the following commands.

diskpart
select disk 0
list partition
exit
reagentc /info

- Alt-PrtScr copies the active window to the clipboard.

If you used EaseUS to partiton your system, you may have caused problems for yourself. That utility seems to mess up Recovery partitions by turning them into OEM partitions.

Open diskpart, select the drive and do a list partition command and attach the results. If the type shows as OEM, you may have the problem. But note, there are some systems which set up possibly one OEM partition as a result of their process.

There are also quite a few threads dealing with resolving problems caused by EaseUS.

Last week, I purchased an Acer Aspire v5-473g Windows 8.1 pre-installed laptop. The first thing I did is to partitioning the hard drive with EaseUS Partition Master. After that, I want to create a USB recovery drive but I found out that I was unable to do so.

When I launch the recovery drive program build in in Windows, I found out that the "Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive" option has been grey out. If I continue the program, it would shows "We can't create a recovery drive on this PC. Some required files are missing".
In addition, I also found out that I was unable to reset nor refresh Windows 8.1.
One thing I am sure is that I did not mess up with the all those system reserved OEM partitions( including the one push reset partition) when I partition the drive. Those partitions should be present and intact.
After doing some research on the internet, some say that I need to mount the system recovery image (the "Push Button Reset\ RecoveryImage\ install.wim") using the "reagentc.exe". But I notice that I was not able to use reagentc.exe.
When I input reagentc.exe /info, reagentc.exe /disable, or reagentc.exe /enable, or all other commands using "reagentc.exe", it gives error: operation failed 3.
So how can I now create a USB recovery drive, or how can i perform reset now?

Please help.

I'm running Windows 10 Home on a Dell Venue 8 Pro. It originally ran Windows 8.1, when I bought it, but I made the free upgrade. It's mostly worked fine, with a few Windows 10-related quirks here and there. However, more recently, I've decided to give it away to a close friend of mine, as I've got a new tablet, and I want to factory reset it...So that they can have a fresh tablet, you know? Anyways, it's not worked, no matter what I've tried, and I've looked on the internet, but no one has my specific problem. I can't use external hardware on it. No recovery flash drive, no recovery CD, nothing. I can only use the tablet itself, a pair of headphones, or the tablet's charger. Also, for the record, I can't plug the charger up to my computer, because the tablet considers itself a computer. The charger won't even work if I plug it's USB portion into my PC. It just doesn't charge, then. You see, the charger is phone charger-esque on one end, and the other end is a USB that plugs into a wall-adapter (the cord and the adapter came with the tablet). Also, I've no money for purchasing new versions of windows or special recovery options. So, does this mean the tablet is useless, and I can only give it away as is? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Good Morning,

This is my first ever post on this Forum after trying to follow a solved solution which I couldn't complete.

As the title mentions I am unable to restore my HP Elitepad - I seem to get " Could not find recovery environment". I have followed a previous thread but I just cant to seem to resolve this issue.

The steps I followed were (this was kindly provided by Topguncp);
diskpartselect disk 0select partition 1assign letter=Rexitreagentc.exe /setreimage /path R:\Recovery\WindowsRE /target C:\windowsTry create a recovery disk to see if it works

I have followed this and item 6 is where I think things go wrong? Where should I write/insert item 6? is this carried out in diskpart? I tried this and a screen shows some detailed information. I then reboot, and try a recovery and it comes up with the same error.

Any ideas or advice for a computer novice would be greatly appreciated. I haven't provided any screen shots as I am unsure what information is relevant although happy to provide.

Thank you for looking

I saw a lot about could not find recovery environment and win 8.1 but I think i have another problem. My charger is not working properly sometimes it chargers sometimes not ( and i have to unplug and plug back the cable into the acumulator) and because of this, when I tried to open my laptop it's shuting down after 1 sec. This brutal shuting down happened for 5 times I guess and  since then every time I boot it says "scanning and repairing drive (\\?\volume(f030c5da-d83f-45ed-". So when I realized that something bad happened I tried to return my win 8.1 to factory but when i got to settings/ change pc settings/ update and recovery / recovery / REmove everyting and reinstall Windows it got this beautifull message "could not find recovery environment " What can i do to get things to normal ( to make windows recovery working again). I m not interested in my data I can erase everything PS: Please don't say it's because I change something at partitions ( I lost onekey recovery when I change something at partition but reinstaling windows to factory was still working until this charger problems)??

Firstly, my IE's gone nuts and closes immediately after opening. So I followed microsoft's instructions to reinstall it, then I discovered I can't open any .exe files at all, showing 'the system could not find the environment option that was entered'

So I tried system restore, but the same error pops up each time I click system restore, even with directly clicking rstrui, exe.

I tried system restore in safe mode, which the restore itself worked, but the error still pops out when I open .exe files.

It seems that all file system stuff is out of order, as I can't even attach a document onto an email using the system dialogue 'choose a file'. When I click add an attachment, nothing pops out.

Before all this happened I did use a cleanup application called '360 Total Security'...but not sure if that's at fault...

So what are my options now? I don't have a win7 installer disc as win7 is preinstalled in the computer when bought.

Thanks...

I have been having this problem since I tried to download the latest version of Itunes and safari. I am not sure whether this is a coincidence or not. I have a windows vista pc.

It appears that I no longer have administrator status on my stand alone PC which has only one user account (ie: administrator) I tried to uninstall Safari via control panel which gave me the error messgage that I did not have administrator status. I then tried to uninstall a couple of other programs with the same result.

I then searched the internet to find an answer, the most helpful of which appeared to be deleting hotkeys from the registry (that were put there by safari). When I tried to access thre Regedit program I got the message "The system could not find the environment option that was entered". I have since a system repair from the vista CD which only gave me the same error message. It would appear if I try to open any program that requires an administrator status I cannot do so.

Please help

Hi everyone,

I'm stuck in a pretty bad situation right now and I have no idea about how to help myself..So recently I've been wanting to 'reset' my Windows 8.1 laptop, & I just cannot because my recovery environment is missing..
First when I got this problem I thought there would be an easy-intermediate level fix like every other problem. (and I love fixing stuff.)

But this one doesn't look like an easy fix or I'm not even sure If there is a fix. So the big mistake I did was, I deleted my "System Recovery Partition".

I have searched everywhere possible and I'm not getting a fix.. I would really appreciate IF YOU GUYS HELP ME!
and another problem is that I don't live in the USA or Canada.I've got a Dell Inspiron 15R 5521, 8GB RAM, intel i5 3317u.

and Dell provides Backup Media to only the people who live in the US and Canada. Please guys, I need a solution.

I have a separate Windows 8.1 Installation Disk, but what I'm scared about is If I install my Windows from the disk, my Dell features would be gone and I don't think I'd be able to have a proper Recovery Environment in the future because this Disk's installation files are nothing related to Dell. Its just a clean Windows installation disk I got from my friend a while ago. I've tried the repair my computer option from the disk and it does not help...

Last week I installed an optional windows update. I restarted, and after getting through the BIOS screens, it wouldn't do anything. I checked my monitors, but nothing was showing up. After a few minutes I rebooted, but this time it took to the Windows Recovery Environment. When I'm in the first screen of the recovery environment, my keyboard stops working, so I can't select "start windows normally". I have to wait for the count down to select "Launch startup repair". In startup repair, no operating system shows up in the window. If I choose the "restore with a system image" option, I get an error that says "the system cannot find the specified file". When I click ok, it takes me to a list of recovery tools, none of which work. I ran "list disk" in command prompt, and it lists three drives, their statuses are listed as "no media" and sizes are "0 B". I have a two raid 0s in my computer, one is two 240 GB SSDs and the other is two 3 TB HDs. I have backups of both. I also booted from the installation disk and had same results. From what I've read on various forums, it seems like I have to load drivers to get windows to recognize my OS. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I am using Ubuntu through the usb for now, after following this tutorial http://lifehacker.com/5504531/the-co...-a-thumb-drive - I have version 12.10 ubuntu

2) After getting my file back, I am going to "reset" (which should wipe all data and reboot windows 8) windows 8, hopefully that will actually do something. If anyone has any ideas as to how I can fix windows 8 from Ubuntu or any way you can think of, please share!

Some of the things I already tried: a) Refresh (with a Win 8 DVD inside, all of the following were performed with a win 8 DVD inside); b) Commandprompt lots of commands, bcdboot commands; c) system restore; d) boot in safe mode; e) boot in legacy mode; f) automatic repair

I have not tried any of the methods that would wipe memory (not like I know how to either), I am trying to get my files back, and I am cramming with pen and paper > ... Read more

A:recovery environment your pc needs to be repaired (win 8)

NTSTATUS 0xC000000F is STATUS_NO_SUCH_FILE
It means that the system couldn't find a file by that name.
Could be that the file doesn't exist (was erased), that the path to the file is incorrect, or that the drive has been erased or is broken

It's seems to me that you've done all the necessary steps to copy the file(s) - so you should have been able to get them.
If that's the case, then it's likely that the files are destroyed/missing/overwritten.

STOP messing with the disk if the files MUST be recovered! Any operations (to include booting up) can make recovery of the files much more difficult/expensive - or even make them unrecoverable.

The first step is to decide how desperate you are to recovery these files.
Here are some recovery utilities - they are Windows based, so you'd have to use a Windows based boot disk to access the hard drive (read the documentation with each program to see how they work from a Windows based boot disk.
There are free recovery utilities (such as PC Inspector - kostenlose Software fr die Datenrettung von CONVAR - Die Datenretter. ) - a very good utility, but very difficult to use
There are pay for utilities (I like GetDataBack from Data Recovery - Data Recovery Software - RAID Recovery - NAS Data Recovery). It'll tell you what files that it can recover - but you'll have to pay $80 US in order to recovery them.

If you still can't recover the data, consider using a professional data recovery service (I can't recommend one as I haven't used any ... Read more

Can I recover from a complete drive backup located on an EXTERNAL hard drive using Vista Ultimate (Once I insert the manufacturer recovery DVD)? My present understanding is that once I get to 'System Recovery Options' dialogue box that the complete computer restore is only only available from spanned DVDs and partitions located on INTERNAL hard disc(s) of the computer iteselfThank you in advance.

A:Recovery Environment Options

I don't think you can. When the recovery CD is inserted it will get all the info from it and when accesing the recovery partition this partition will get all the info from it.

Not sure though...

Ok I need your help.
My roommate has decided to install iatkos on my computer and messed up windows. I could handle fixing it if that was all, but then he decided to fix it himself and in the process deleted neccessary stuff.
Now, when I start up the computer, it opens windows recovery environment and says that config files are missing or invalid.
Specifically \boot\bcd
And it fails to see install USB when I plug it in. It can't boot from USB. So, what do I do? If I managed to boot from USB I could install Windows over iatkos partition, if it's possible to fix boot files of original. I can't install new over opd ones. That's not an option.

A:Stuck at recovery environment.

shift F10 in the recovery environment gives you a command prompt - try the following
bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backupc:cd bootattrib bcd -s -h -rren c:\boot\bcd bcd.oldbootrec /RebuildBcdbootrec /FixMbr bootrec /FixBoot

BCDBoot c:\windows /s c:

If you get to boot after that, run SFC/scannow from an elevated prompt to repair any system files that may be damaged

So I went out and purchased the USB drive from the Gateway site to restore this laptop back to new and when i tried to do it,it said recovery failed - can`t find the image path M:/RecoveryImage/install.wim.

I contacted tech support and they issued me a replacement USB drive, I get the same failure.

I have diagnosed the HDD and it passes.  I have used diskpart to "clean" the HDD drive all to no avail.

What gives?

I think i have some kind of malware. I am unable to use many functions on my computer, I always get the same error message "C:\windows\system32\rstrui.exe The system could not find the environment option that was entered." I can't open system restore, because I get that same error message. I think its any .exe operations that I cannot use. My malware program won't open normally but when I tried it in safe mode, it didnt find any problems. I also tried system restore in safe mode and from the boot screen, and it told me system protection was turned off, so I tried to turn it back on and the security tab that was needed to do this was missing. I don't have the windows 7 install disc because it was a factory install. I can't install any new programs and now I keep getting error messages saying I may have counterfeit software. In the bottom right corner of the desktop it says "Windows 7 Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine"

Hello kdaughtridge and welcome to Seven Forums.

It sounds like you have several issues going all at once. It will help us help you if you list your system specs. At the top of every Seven Forums page you'll see User CP. Click on that and in the left column you'll see Edit System Spec. From there you can provide details about your computer.

You didn't say what anti-malware you're using. Try to download and install the free Malwarebytes from here. (You may have to use safe mode or install to a thumb drive if you aren't able to instlal any new programs.) Update the data base and run the full scan. You can either post the Malwarebytes log here for review or let it delete whatever malware it might find.

Please post back with your results so we can determine the next best course of action.

So I have been having this couponarific crud popping up so my dad got me ESET NOD32 ANTIVIRUS for my computer. I try to install it today and it says something like you do not have the permission to install this or something. I decide to delete Microsoft Essentials and a bunch of other Mircosoft stuff that doesn't look like they should be on my computer and now I keep on getting the same message.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\IC\bin\wmsnap.exe

The system could not find the environment option that was entered.

This stuff pops up right when I log on to my account and it doesn't go away! What is going on? I currently cannot play games, install, uninstall or do anything else. I also do not have anything currently on my computer to protect me from viruses and malware. So what can I do to fix this? Also the game I have been trying to play as well as uninstall is Star Wars the Old Republic.

A:The system can not find the environment option that was entered. Help!

First of all, MSE and ESET generally won't detect adware which is what couponarific is.

Try entering Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode

Once in Safe Mode, download and run Microsoft Security Essentials again.
Download and run Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free : Do a Custom Scan and check the box to scan for Rootkits, Scan C:
Download and run AdwCleaner : AdwCleaner Download
Download and run SuperantiSpyware : SUPERAntiSpyware - Downloading File

Attach the logs created by the programs you just ran to your next post.

If you wish to continue to use ESET, lets clean up the PC first and then we will remove MSE correctly to allow you to install ESET.

Just for fun, run SFC Scan
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
