Server 2012 on vmware

Q: Server 2012 on vmware

I have windows server 2012 installed on my vmware running ad, dhcp and dns.
after that I installed the client running windows 8.1.
but when I try to join the domain it says that the domain could not be found.
so I hit ipconfig in my cmd on the windows 8 and it didnt recieve any ip from my dhcp its ip address is169.254.153.23. so basicly my dhcp didnt give me any ip adress since my server is on network subnetmask
in the virtual machine setting I have both network adpters set on bridged: connected directly to the physical network.
when I open the dhcp on my server I have a red arrow pointing down on the ipv4 and ipv6 option but since I cannot ping my server at all I dont think its my dhcp but my vmware network.
does somebody know how to fix this?

sorry for my bad english

Preferred Solution: Server 2012 on vmware

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Today I have download Microsoft server 2012 from Microsoft website.

I have tried many times but I am getting same error.

Please anyone can help me to solve this problem.

Hi all,
Good morning everyboday. I would like to ask one question to clarify? So, anyone please suggest to me.
In my network, I used dell rack server with Vmware ESXi Hypervisor. Then, I have create Windows Server VMs on that Hypervisor. In these day, we are hear many information about "Meltdown and Spectre Vulnerability".
I have read to protect such vulnerability. But, I am a little confuse it. Do I need to make security update on both Vmware Hypervisor and Windows Servers? If I make security update only Vmware Hypervisor, is it not enough?
Anyone please suggest to me for such condition. Thanks you.

I've a broadband link of MTNL with D-Link DSL 502T modem, and a m/c with Windows XP as primary OS and over it running VMWare server ver 1. I''ve loaded Ubuntu 10 server over VMWare and made it as the DNS / Web Server, I've got domain name registered against a static IP.

Now the problem I'm facing is that whenever I try to open the web-page of my web-server, I receive Modem Configuration page instead of web page I loaded on the server, although my Apache 2 server is running fine.

Can some one help me tell how to configure so that it directly fetches the web pages loaded in the web server instead of modem configuration page.

Thanks and regards

I am working with windows 8 and I have installed SQL server 2007 and visual studio 2010. Now I want to upgrade these setups to SQL server 2012 and visual studio 2012. what is the advantages of what i want to do and how can i do it easily without corrupting the operating system? Please help.

A:Installation of sql server 2012 and visual studio 2012

SQL Server has an upgrade option that is pretty painless. Just run the setup file from your 2012 installation media and click the upgrade option. It will ask you what instance to upgrade, run some checks, and then upgrade it for you.

Visual Studio is a little different. If you install 2012 without uninstalling 2010 first, you will simply just have both versions to choose from. You can completely uninstall 2010 before installing 2012 by finding your 2010 installation file and adding the uninstall and force switches when running it(ex. "C:\vs_ultimate.exe /uninstall /force").

If you keep 2010, 2012 will ask you if you wish to import your settings and whatnot from 2010. If you uninstall 2010, 2012 will just have it all when you open it for the first time.

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.

Hi All,

I need some urgent help if possible.

I've got a vmware server at work and I took a snapshot a few months back. Since then I've done a lot of work without taking another.

By mistake I clicked on revert to snapshot and I've totally lost the current state. I tried clicking it again but it takes me to an even older one.

Is there any way of getting the recent state back up??

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello All,

I am making my HTPC duo as a Virtual Home Lab to help me attain certifications (MSCE etc,.)

Pentium D 3.4ghz dual core
3Gb of Ram

I installed VMware server.

How hard would it be to install 3 server 2008 OS's? any advice? I'll be setting up a domain with maybe a Primary DC (512mb ram), Secondary DC/GC whatever(512mb ram).. plus maybe an exchange server 2010(1gb ram) leaving 1gb for OS.

If anyone has done this I could use pointers/tips

A:VMware Server

I haven't personally tried such a configuration, but your system requirements just don't seem up to the task of running 3 Windows Server 2008 systems simultaneously including one with Exchange. VMs require a significant amount of resources. RAM is just one. Processing power is another. You can give it a shot, but I have a feeling your computer will choke.

I have installed VMWare server (the next to the latest version - don't know the number) and Ubuntu 7.04 in it, and finally got them working properly, with Ubuntu taking up the whole screen and VM's toolbar hidden at the top until I bring it down with my cursor (briefly have 2 cursors, of course), BUT whenever I use this setup and then close the server (and Ubuntu, of course), then try to shutdown Windows XP and exit, Windows gets to the "shutting down" screen and freezes. I then have to unplug the computer, plug it back in , restart Windows and then exit, a process I am sure is not good for the computer, and is at annoying at best. I have 218 gigs free space on my hard drive. My memory is 1022MB - could this be the problem. I have heard that vm's are memory hogs, but why would it be causing problems after I've shut it down?. I have looked at VMWare's forums, but I didn't understand all that geekspeak. There was one thread there from 2005 that mentioned a similar problem, but got no answers. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it, as I'd hate to have to uninstall the thing.

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64.

I tried to install VMWare Server when I came across a very big problem.

It has 4 drivers that weren't installed b/c Vista x64 requires that they be signed.

Is there a way around this, or am I just not allowed to have VMWare Server?

If it's not possible, I'm open to other alternatives. Assuming it's free like VMWare Server. :P

A:VMWare server & Vista x64???

The Drivers are:

VMware kernel driver

VMware USB monitor

VMware network API driver

VMware bridge driver
Obviously these are pretty important, so I need to find a way to get them in there, without having to do the F8 option on every boot. These drivers are 64-bit, so did the publisher just not sign them?

I could not connect to any host (except master IP) from Guest OS when I am using NAT. But I can ping any host. I have not problems when I use bridget network.

I have tried to disable Windows Firewall - no changes.

This configuration has worked in Windows Vista ideal. I have submited feedback to MS.

May be anybody have any idea?

A:VMWare Server NAT problem

Seems like the same trouble I?ve been having.

I run Ubuntu and Fedora with VMware Workstation, and I can ping all I want, but thats it. Only way I can get it to work is running bridged.

I prefer bridge tho, so it dosen?t matter to me. But youre not the only one with problems running NAT networking on VM guest.

What are you planning on doing here? I think you're getting distracted with the "home page" question.

What you need to do is create a "virtual drive" then install an operating system into it, thus creating a VM or "virtual machine".

And how can i get access to the internet within the Virtual PC if running XP Pro and the notebook itself has a wireless card built in?

I have a Win 2003 server, standard edition, 32 bit. This server has 2 x dual core xeons and 12GB of ram. Currently I run several VMs off this machine via VM Server. I have been thinking about migrating to Windows 2008 64 bit and using HyperV instead of VM Server.

First going from 32 bit to 64 bit on the host OS, would that give me any performance boost? Second, how do the two virtual products compare? I have been hearing great things about HyperV.

I am not concerned about cost since I am in Education and get very good pricing on MS products.

Should I just keep things like they are? Reinstall with Win 2008 64 bit on host OS? If so then should I use VM Server or Hyper V?

A:Stick with VMware server or move to Hyper V

With 12GB of RAM, I think you'll see a significant performance boost using a 64bit system since you then avoid PAE.

Hi all,

My first post - please pardon any snafus of etiquette

Could somebody provide a list of all the drivers that would need signing?

Would the following method work:
1. Use F8 to stop requiring signed drivers
2. Install VMWare server on Vista 64
3. Use method from ATI Radeon HD 4870 4850 3850 3870 2900 2600 NVIDIA GeForce 280 260 9800 9600 8800 8600 - NGOHQ.com to sign necessary drivers
4. Reboot without F8 - presumably the signed drivers should now function ??

If this seems reasonable - is there a complete list of drivers that I ought to go sign in 3) above?

What's the gotcha?

I recently migrated my MDT/WDS server from a physical machine to a VMware virtual machine. Prior to migrating it, my PXE TFTP transfers took less than 20 seconds and they are currently taking a few minutes. Nothing in my environment changed other than
migrating to the virtual. Additionally, after migrating to VM my boot.wim loads and boots but does not run the start of my task sequence. This happens intermittently, sometimes a reboot or two fixes the issue and the task sequence runs without any issues.
I have attempted to change my max TFTP block sizes to 16784 but this had no effect. I am only running these deployments in unicast with a max of three or four machines pulling images. Today, for instance I have two machines on my bench. One imaged fine,
the other wont contact the Deployment server. It does not even register with the MDT monitoring server. Not sure what else can be done. I have not done any packet caps but given that nothing in my network changed I am not sure that would yield any results.

Hi there.

I LIKE the idea of a bare metal Hypervisor - I've tried Esxi (VMware) in the past and although it works it's a bit fiddly on what hardware it works on and there's no CLI for managing VM's --you have to do this with a separate machine using vCenter which USED TO BE FREE -- and now this part is NOT available in the free offering any more (if you upgrade to the latest version of ESXI (5.5) you won't be able to manage / modify VM's any more - at least in the FREE offering -- you have to BUY the latest vCenter -- so I've now junked Esxi.

It seems from Internet discussions that Free ESXI might be being phased out anyway so a good time to jump ship to Ms.

Does 2012 HYPER-V SERVER R2 (it's FREE BTW) work decently as a hypervisor -- I'm only really interested in running Windows VM's.

I actually quite like W2012 SERVER but I don't really need the full server edition for hosting VM's. I want to use W2012 server as a VM anyway.

I've been quite a happy user of VMware workstation in the past but it's quite expensive and needs a full blown OS to run on even though it can now run VM's in the background.

I need to run the following Guest OS's (or VM's) on it ===> W2003 server, 2 XP PRO VM's (one ENG, on ISL), one W7 Enterprise, one W8.1 Enterprise and one W2012 server .

A:HYPER-V SERVER R2 (Esxi 5.5 needs PAID vCENTER - vmware)

Vcenter server was Never free Jimbo.

You can still use the existing client to manage vms on the free esxi 5.5, but you need to be sure that you do NOT upgrade the vm hardware on these VMs to version 10. Even newly created vms will start as version 8, it's a manual process to upgrade them and it comes with a warning that the web client will be required.

I'm actually pretty surprised this is being handled this way, but it's not likely a big issue unless you ignore the warnings.

HyperV was never a product I liked. Prior to Windows 8, remotely managing vms was a total nightmare with a bunch of dcom stuff you had to manually set up. It's still a crapshoot whether a Linux vm is going to work. I steer clear of this supervisor.

Citrix Zen server is a free product. Pretty good too.

I created the following performance counter using logman.exe.

logman.exe create counter US_Triton_Perf_Log -b 9/23/2015 09:30:00 -e 9/30/2099 18:30:00 -r -s $server -si $frequence -cf $folder\$server.txt -f $logtype  -o C:\local\logs\Perfout_$Server --a -v mmddhhmm  -rf  $max_duration

When I do this across multiple servers specifically for Windows Servers 2008/2012, the counter is created to repeat and run everyday at 930PM and stops running everyday at 430PM. This works perfectly fine as intended. However, When I do this for a Windows
2003 server, my created counter is very different.
For example, in this case, I have set to the counters to start at 930AM and end at 1830PM, because I have set a maximum duration of 9 hours, the job terminates and begins on the next day, since I have the repeat option on. However, this does not apply to
our 2003 server; logman creates the job to run once a week in this case it would be on a Wednesday. In addiiton, I noticed that the job doesn't not even start at it's indented time. It actually does not start at all. I also notice that the jobs on all windows
2003 servers are created in a pending status, which then prevents me from removing the counter remotely.

I would like to know if windows 2003 is capable of working like my win 2008/2012 servers using logman, and if historically, the job has to be kicked off through scheduled task.

Both Jobs are using the same criteria, but a... Read more

I have a PC with XP Pro but I want to install Vista as well so I can get the hang of it a little more. I have read some about VirtualPC and am thinking about installing that. Can anyone tell me what program would be best to use? Also, how exactly do you go about installing multiple operating systems on one machine? Is there a pretty easy guide for these programs? Any recommendations on specs? I have a AMD 64 X2 3800+ with 1 GB Ram but upgrading to 3 GB this week. I have onboard video that has I believe 256 of shared memory. Thanks for the help guys.

Basically what the title says. Here is the layout:

1. Comcast modem -> home router/default gateway (linksys e2000) - -> unmanaged netgear hub
1a. from unmanaged hub, everything has a 192.168.1.x address with a subnet mask of (PCs/laptops/wifi, etc)
2. From unmanaged hub, to the cisco 2950 switch
2a. setup vlan1 to be a 192.168.0.x network (default gateway with a subnet mask of
2b. Cisco switch has a Dell Poweredge 2950 II & a Rackable systems JBOD system, was going to set the IP of VMware ESXi as, the web server as & the JBOD as

So far I have gotten to logging into the Cisco switch and setting the vlan1 as IP address/subnet mask as shown above. But when I set the static IP in the ESXi/web server, they are not getting connectivity. This may have something to do with routing from the home router because when I try and do static routes, it won't let me do it from a 192.168.0.x network. Not sure where to start, starting from a novice to intermediate perspective, but had some spare parts and wanted to start this project. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, and let me know if you need more information.

A:Segregating vmware web server from home network using cisco 2950 switch

Welcome to TSG.
Your Default Gateway, (linksys e2000) is not seen by your network. As you stated you need a router to route between the networks.

The easy way is to stick with the network, all of your 2950 switch ports are in VLAN 1 by default , so it should plug and play. The devices you want static can be set to the top of the current range, and so forth, the DHCP on your router will issue,

The hard way http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index

This should be done carefully, as you can turn a perfectly good router into a paper weight.

I've been going crazy trying to help troubleshoot a BSOD.  I've used Bluescreenviewer to analyze the dump files, but I can't find a good solution.   I've attached images of the dump files from bluescreenviewer, and done searches on the errors referenced, NTOSKRNL.EXE and STORPORT.SYS.  We've updated all of the drivers, but I'm about to recommend driver verifier as well.  Please help!

A:BSOD in server 2012 R2

These are both STOP 0x133 errors.  There's a bit of info on them on my webpage here:  http://www.carrona.org/bsodindx.html#0x00000133
Even more articles here (eventually I'll put them on my webpage:0):
Please run this report collecting tool so that we can provide a complete analysis:  http://omgdebugging.com/bsod-inspector/
When done a Notepad document will open with the name of the file and it's location. (By default it'll be a .zip file located on your Desktop)
Simply upload the .zip file with your next post and we'll move on from there.

If it doesn't work for you, then please try this:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/
It's OK to ask for Driver Verifier if this isn't a production server (as it'll create downtime and also may slow the system down).
If it is, see if they can schedule some time to run Driver Ver... Read more

Hi, some time ago I deployed two servers for a small RDS environment.  They are both physical servers, session-based RDS.
I want to now get USB Redirection to work on them to enable the use of WebCams.  Looking through all the literature and articles, I get the impression that I need Hyper-V installed.  Is this true?  Was my initial deployment setup incorrect
or can I just add the Hyper-V feature now?   I am worried if I install that role that it will change the architecture of my setup.
Can someone please advise.
Many thanks

I have recently installed a server 2012 and configured remote access and users are able to access RDP from all clients. Recently Windows 7 machines are not able to access the remote desktop, its shows an error "This computer can't connect to the remote
computer. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator. " I have disabled the network level authentication from local policy but the issue still exists.
Windows 10 machines are able to connect the remote desktop.
Please help me to resolve the same.

I have just installed Windows 8/8.1 - first time user
I just installed SQL Server 2012 and rebooted.

I can't find where SQL Server management studio is located. I've looked on the start screen and I've looked on the Desktop. I can't find an Icon to run it anywhere.

Any ideas?

While in the Start screen type "sql" and see if anything pops up. If so, and it's what your looking for, pin it to the Start screen.

What version of server 2012 do you have? Also what client operating systems do you have? Windows 7 Home premium, professional, ultimate?

This can affect what services you can offer to clients.

Hello 8forums,

Really great forum here and I'm glad to join. If I posted this in the wrong section I apologize.

Okay now here's my problem. I'm currently trying to setup Windows Server 2012 for my dad. The main thing it will be used for is storage of movies, photos and backing up Excel documents for work. This is a copy a friend burned him onto a disk and is currently NOT activated. He wanted to check it out before purchasing the license. I have installed it onto an old HP Pavilion a1640n and everything went fine with installation but, now that it is installed I cannot connect his Win8 computer to it. I have Googled this and found a method but, it doesn't work. I'm told to open a browser and enter in the address bar " HTTP://Server-name/connect " (Server-name replaced with then name of his server) and I should get a connector software download page. I do not get this software download page I just get a server not found page. I have tried entering other possibilities into the address bar, too (192.168.0.xxx/connect, adding .com etc.) nothing works. If I can get any help with this it would be appreciated.

I have tried:

Completely reinstalled Windows Server 2012
Reinstalled Ethernet drivers on the WS2012 box

Things they may be causing the problem:

As I said the Windows Server 2012 is not activated.
The WS2012 box is stuck on public network type and the W8 box is stuck on private network type.
The WS2012 box does not show up on my network on the W8 box but,... Read more
