Issues with headset/sound recording

Q: Issues with headset/sound recording

Hi.

I have a headset and two computers. Old PC, Acer. Current PC, Cyberpower. Headset, Humlin.

A few days or so ago I plugged my headset into my current PC and it recorded fine and clear. However, the sound suddenly came out the speakers at full volume and it said the headphones jack had been unplugged. It hadn't and it was still in. I twisted it a little and it said plugged back in. I started recording again but had issues with both mic and headphones with the computer telling me they'd been unplugged and plugged back in, but the jacks never moved. Each time the speakers went to full volume. It was fine for a bit and then when I unplugged the jack the speakers went to full volume again.

I plugged the headset into my old computer the other day and it all seemed fine. Did it again a day or two later and it wouldn't record but I had sound. It also took my volume up to full when unplugging the headphones jack, but it's been the one and only time it has done that. Then the next day I could record but had no sound.

I was using the front ports so switched to the back ports and both mic and headphones seemed fine. I recorded what I wanted to today (after double checking mic and headphones, both seemed fine) and then went to listen to the audio on my laptop and there's a really loud constant buzz.

I've plugged my headset back into my current PC and there's no buzz when playing back the recording, but it did say unplugged jack (headphones) and turned my volume up to full again.

What is going on and how do I fix it? I need both computers to be able to record audio clearly and not suddenly blast out audio at full volume. Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For the past two days, I've been struggling to record commentary for a YouTube video I am making. My Headset works everywhere else just fine, but if I plug it in into my laptop it creates static and so does every other mic. I called HP, and they said there was nothing wrong with the jack since I could hear everything just fine. Sometimes the static is in the files themselves but other times it's just through my headsets. I have no clue what to do. I've looked at every single tutorial thing and tinkered with every little thing. The problem was solved yesterday then I tried to record today and RIP.
I checked, and it says all my drivers are updated.
The headset came with a cable that splits the audio, and I'm thinking of splitting it then splitting it back into the laptop. I really have no clue what else to do.

Thank you in advance.

Good day.

I have a very weird problem and I've only found 2 threads about it on the web and they don't really lead to solutions. Here is my Problem...

So one day I'm trying to hook my headset up so that I can talk to fellow gamer's when playing online games, and it came to my conclusion as I was struggling to set the headset up that my mic on the headset is not recording the sound and it is actually my headset's speakers. I don't even understand how this is possible. This is very strange and I would GREATLY appreciate some advise and possibly a solution to this. (I even bought a USB sound card and that's doing the exact same thing)

Thank you sooooo much in advance!!!

Alright I have a problem with my sound card (integrated into my motherboard) and I need help! Below is my problem as I described it to a firend, if u need it more formally I can do that as well but its easier to copy and paste then to type it all out again:

first off, playback works FINE and recording when thats all your doing is FINE. the problem is when your recording and playing something back at the same time.
ok, so lets say im using adobe audition...no wait the stock sound recorder that comes with windows! (because everyne has it and is familir with it) ok...so lets say i want to record myself singing over metallicas seek and destroy. so i open up windows media player and the sound recorder, put on headphones so the origional song doesnt bleed through the mic...now when i press play on WMP...
and record on the sound recorder is records the song im playing back perfectly....which is stupid! and even if thats not enough u can BARELY hear what you recorded over it (i stress barely as u cant hear it like at all)... so basically it wont let me record and play something back at the same time because it just records what is being played back! and it never did this before and i need it not to do this so i can do multitrack recording.

Thanks in advance.

I own an IBuyPower R7 200 Series prebuilt PC and within the last 4 months I've realized that the recording for any headset or microphone will not work. I plug in the headset and the microphone isn't even detected. Whenever I do manage to connect it, it doesn't record audio, although it does play sound through the headset.

I believe I have already checked up on my drivers and they all seem up to date. Although I could be wrong, which is why I need to know if there is anything I could have missed.

I can post screenshots of my device manager if needed. Thanks for any responses, if there's any info I need to provide just let men know.

I recently bought a new custom PC from a local store, and every part of it worked fine except for some problems with recording from a microphone. when I plug in my headset into the corresponding jack on the front of my PC, it does not record from me mic. Instead, it records sounds from my speakers (for example, if I'm playing a movie, it will record the sounds from the movie, not from my headset.) Here is what my sounds mixer looks like:

Could it be a problem with the sound card? Any easy way to fix it without having to bring it back to the store for repairs?

Thanks,

I've searched around a lot about this topic, but after hours and days of searching, I've found nothing to fix my problem. I have a headset that has speakers and a microphone (3.5mm jacks) that work fine, except when I'm trying to talk to someone using the microphone, they can hear the sounds coming from my headset (youtube videos, game sounds etc). I've tried installing the Realtek HD Audio Codec but it disappears after it finishes installing and after I restart (although it still remains in the Programs and Features uninstall page), the program files for it is empty with the exception of RtlUpd64.exe which doesn't do anything when executed and a few other files.
In device manager, the things I have under sound, video and game controllers are Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus and the Intel Display Audio. I've updated everything to the latest. Also, I recently system restored my computer and before I did I had IDT High Definition Audio Drivers, but after updating they were changed.
I think the problem is that stereo mix is enabled somewhere or something to do with my drivers as when I tried plugging my headset into my brother's computer, it worked fine (he has the Gigabyte Realtek Audio Manager thing and was able to adjust the stereo mix settings).
If there's a program or workaround to this, or how to disable the stereo mix like through registry or something, please let me know.

A:Headset mic recording sounds through headset?

You are correct, that is the usual cause of this problem. And aside from being set in the drivers, it can sometimes be set in the application (used for the communication).

That model does appear to use the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio chipset. The problem is likely in the fact that you upgraded to Win10 and I don't see that HP supports nor supplies drivers for Win10 (I only see drivers for 7 and 8). Which means you are using generic drives supplied by Windows. The generic Windows drivers often work well enough to get hardware functional, but quite often don't support all hardware or all features of all hardware.

I'm trying to record myself playing a game on the PC, I wish to use Fraps, but I have also used Camtasia and Bandicam during my testing, all of them work fine except none of them record the game audio... it would seem Windows XP has issues with this.

I'm on Windows XP SP3, my soundcard is an M-Audio revolution 5.1.

Recording what is coming out of speakers needs "StereoMix" option that some sound-cards doesn't support, does Camtasia shows "StereoMix" in "Input Audio" menu ?

Maybe this post would useful to record what you hear.

I just purchased the above the other day.

I chat regularly to someone in America using various chat clients (yahoo, aim, msn etc).

On my ancient Sony Vaio this wasn't a problem. However on this laptop, with a vastly superior specification, the sound at their end is awful. It apparently skips and the volume fluctuates.= and generally sounds awful.

I tried sound recording on it and got the same results.

I'm using a Plantronics headset rather than the internal mic, (don't know if this makes a difference).

Not being that computer literate myself, is there a conflict between the external mic and the built in mic or can anyone shed any other light on this matter.

Any help would be vastly appreciated because I purchased this laptop simply to upgrade and carry on voice chatting

Hi

In the sound settings, you will find 2 mic volumes, one the internal and external if the external mic is only plugged in, so what you do is to mute one and use the other.

Hope this helps !!

Hello

I'm trying to record some songs (Please do not ask why)
Whenever i try to record, it comes through the headphones which is normal.
The problem now is when i record, Camtasia can't detect the mic has speakers or something
So when i do audio record, it records NOTHING, ( i'm not speaking through mic)
If i move the mic to my speakers, it doesn't record well and sometimes records nothing by static. If i use my original speaker settings (IDT Audio) it records nothing

So i thought that if i disabled my headset, i would hear stuff through my speakers

Now how do i disable my headset WITHOUT pulling off the plug.

I looked through IDT panel everywhere and could not find a way to disconnect the headset.

So how do i disable it without pulling the headset's plug off?

If you can tell me a way to record without disabling the headset at all please tell me.

If you want to RECORD you use the PINK mic jack for the microphone part of the headset. The GREEN Jack is the Speaker out (for connecting a headset or speakers).

A computer mic requires +5VDC to operate. Only the PINK mic jack has the +5VDC on the "Ring" connection.

I recently bought a Philips SHM7110U/10 headset to hopefully get better audio than my laptop's current microphone while recording with Fraps.

Fraps is currently using my laptop's default microphone, which can be changed by setting another microphone to the default. I read several articles on how to do this, but it turns out my headset does not appear on this list, only my laptop's default microphone.

Here is the recording devices list. The microphone seen in the picture is the built in microphone, which is not what I want to use.

Is there any way to fix this problem? I hope I have explained well enough. Thanks for reading.

PS. The headset is analogue if that helps. The site I bought it from can be found here: Buy Philips SHM7110U/10 3.5mm Stereo Overhead PC Headset and Microphone from our Gaming Headsets range - Tesco.com

A:Headset's microphone is not appearing on the recording devices list.

You should have more than just the microphone. RIGHT click in an empty area in that panel then LEFT click show disabled and disconnected devices. Does the headset mic show up now? Also does the System Mixer (could be called Stereo Mix) show up? If it does, make that the default recording device then whatever input you have should be heard. The System Mixer (or whatever its called in your PC) is also needed if you want to record streaming audio from the Internet.

Hi Guys, I am having trouble with some Bose QC35 headphones. They have been working fine until a short time ago, nothing has changed as far as I can tell

Now I only have sound when the headset is connected as a headset, but not when it is connected headphones. This is a problem becuase the microphone turns on so I get feedback from surround sounds and the ANC on my headset turns off. When I go into the control panel and try testing the sound, the green bars move up and down for both headphone and headset, but I only actually hear sound from the headset.

I have tried updating firmwares, turning computer and headphones on and off, repairing the headphones, checked all the volume selection spots I know about and as far as I can tell, there should be sound coming from the headphones

Computer is a lenovo P50 running windows 7

Anyone got any suggestions?

Hello. I am EpicallyAWSM.

Alright before I explain, I must tell you that I WAS able to record audio previously.

I'm having a problem while recording audio with Fraps (a game video-recording software). Previously, I was unable to find the Stereo Mix at all, until I found the Drivers CD that came with my computer.

After I installed the driver, I tested it on a few different games, but the result was still the same: no audio in my recorded files. I have double-checked, and the volume for Stereo Mix is maxed, and it is set to the default recording device. I have spent countless hours trying to find a fix for this problem, so I decided to file it in myself.

One thing though, is that I'm aware my sound card driver is a little out of date, but I am unable to update it because I get an error while running the setup file. My sound card is "Realtek High Definition Audio Card" - that's all I know about it.

I'm sure my version of Fraps is capable of recording this audio, because I was able to do so before. Suddenly though I was unable to record audio and I had a problem with sound channels in Game Maker 8 (problem I will be asking in the Game Maker forum). I am unsure what to do. Please do not give me the answers I have been seeing for the past week (Check Show All Devices, make sure your volume is maxed, etc.)

Thank you

Hi,

I recently purchased the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX and am having problems getting it to actually play any audio or record any sound.

I've browsed other threads with similar issues on this board and as such have disabled my motherboards onboard audio in my BIOS settings, have reinstalled the drivers from disc and from the Creative website, and even attempted to use Driverpack Online to download any missing drivers. However my problem still persists.

I can see that the Sound Blaster Audigy FX is present on the sound option on the control panel, but it never actually plays any sound. Additionally, whenever I try to play a test sound in the speakers advanced properties I am returned with the error "Failed to play test tone".

I've included a few screenshots that might help make things a bit more clear, and I'd be very appreciative of any help I can get with this issue.

First thing, I assume you have correctly attached your speakers to the new SoundBlaster.

As you have a separate sound card, did you disable any on-board (on the motherboard) audio in the BIOS? If not, that is the first step. The on-board, is still enabled, can conflict with the SoundBlaster.

Also, temporarily disable the AMD HD audio in the Device Manager for testing (the AMD is for HDMI audio). Reboot after doing this.

Finally, although this has may not have any affect on playback, the default recording device should be the SoundBlaster "What You Hear". In the Recording sound panel, RIGHT click in an empty area and then check to show Disconnected and Disabled devices. If the SoundBlaster was installed correctly What You Hear should now show up and you can enable it and make it the default recording device.

All sound from the PC fades out over the course of ~2 seconds only to instantly return when a new (loudish) sound is made. It almost feels as if the headset is raising its baseline of noise after a bit and things the normal sounds are just nothing until a loud sound comes in and makes it realize there is still noise to be played. Best way to describe it is having poor thresholds set to a VoIP voice detection, you make a loud noise and it will kick on and detect lower noise for a bit before shutting down again.

Headset is a Skullcandy PLYR2 Wireless Headset USB plugged directly into MoBo

I have not had this issue happen when using my monitor's speakers (HDMI into GPU)

There is no sound card on this PC, and I've not been able to find any sort of software to control the audio processor outside of the windows playback enhancements.

Windows Communications volume attenuation is set to do nothing, VoIP programs are off as well so as to rule out those. No enhancements are on in windows playback enhancements.

When you use a USB connected headphone (wired or wireless) you do not use the PC's sound card, The USB system does the conversion from digital to analog audio. Thus the problem is somewhere in the USB headset system.

Greetings all,

Does anyone know what happened to the SOUND RECORDER program that was in the previous versions of Windows?

I was previously on Windows 7 and upgraded to 10 when the notifications came out last month. In W7 I was able to open the SOUND RECORDER program

and then record sounds from the video that was playing through the internet explorer I was using at that time. It did NOT matter which internet explorer I was using, be it IE or CHROME or FIREFOX, etc. I was previously able to open a video, for example youtube, and then record the sound that was playing into the SOUND RECORDER program, and then save that file on my desktop as a WMA.

I have not been able to find the SOUND RECORDER program in Windows 10. Is it gone? I've tried downloading a couple freebie programs that are similar to it, but they're not recording the sounds either. So now I'm thinking maybe Windows 10 bypassed or simply disregarded my sound card altogether, ? Is that a possibility?

Thank you all for your comments, please do not be offended if I do not respond to your questions. I think I've been pretty straight forward in what I'm asking.

Thank you for your help, it's much appreciated.

Hey guys, I made a thread a few years ago about me recording with a Plantronics 380 while using a dolby 5.1 usb soundcard to make the volume louder so people can actually hear me and getting a bit of static issues while recording as heard by the attachment I added with this post.

Now recently at PAX AUS I won a Corsair H2100 wireless headset but whenever I plug it in I get static/snow sounding interference and I have no idea on how to solve it while using corsairs software. They've
told me to send it in as they think it could be a defective product but im doubtful. But if I got a replacement and the same issue occurs I don't think I would be able to sell the headset on something like Ebay.

http://www.gamingcapacity.com/wp-con...com380-911.jpg -Plantronics 380 headset

Any ideas? I would prefer my first issue to be solved first before the corsair if possible thanks

A:Static when recording as well as a new wireless headset "snow" problem

A wireless device is a digital device and its up to the support software, e.g. the Corsair software to amplify or do whatever to the signal. The PC's sound card is not used with digital (the sound card converts analog to digital).

As its wireless, there are possibilities for interference from other wireless devices or even wireless/cell telephones.

e.g. I bought a Logitech Wireless mouse and keyboard. They had interference problems and did not work well. I replaced that with a Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard, which apparently works on a different frequency and it works OK.

So i'm trying to work on a video project in Camtasia Studio 6. However the option to record from your speakers (what you hear) is not an option. After searching the net I found one common respond is to go to Control Panel > Sound and then the Recording tab and then make sure that all disabled and hidden objects are shown. However I still can't get Sound Mix or What you hear to show up, which is quite frustrating as I am sure that is why I can't select the Speaker audio option when i'm working in Camtasia Studio, that option is grayed out.
which leads me to question, is this a possible driver issue? I was thinking about installing the Realtek Audio Driver but not sure if that would do anything different or not.
Otherwise i'm lost as every place I have looked online just suggests this as an option (checking to make sure all disabled and disconnected devices are shown in Sound)

i ercorded my sound using sound recorder(on windows xp), While i was reading my data inmatlab, i came to know that my sound was recorded in two channels. i dont understand what does it mean by 2 channels. i want my sound to be recorded in a single channel only.
what should i do??

A:sound recording using sound recorder

Hi, welcome to TSG.

Two channels refers to stereo sound, a left channel and a right channel. Most all music and sounds on a computer are in stereo. What exactly are you recording and why does it need to be only one channel?

Hey,

I have recently got a new computer ( Packard bell ixtreme M5801). It has no sound card. On my previous computer I tried the headset with no problems however on this one, when the microphone jack is plugged in, the sound is muffled, quiet and distorted. I have tried playing around with the settings on the "Sound" panel and installing the latest drivers from packard bells website. The headset i am trying to use is a Turtle Beach x11.

Today, I plugged my iPod into the microphone port via a 3.5mm cable and when playing it back it was fine.

Thanks for your help.

System Specs:
MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
Intel Core i3 550 @ 3.20GHz
6.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
Packard Bell ixtreme M5801 (CPU 1)

If you require any more information don't hesitate to ask, as this is my first post.

Many Thanks,
Mike.

Hi I recently bought a headset for my PC and I'm trying to set up chat functions on a website called discord, as far as I'm aware the app works fine and I should be part of the chat, after unmuting myself. Audio works fine on the headset and has done for
a while but when I plugged in the mic it didn't seem to work, after some fiddling in manage devices I can hear myself being played back, an echo of me talking and typing etc, but I still can't be heard by other people on the chat?

Ok well I am not exactly sure where to post this but since it works well on XP and not Vista I will post it here.

So I went out and bought a headset. Now I have had a couple, but this one is USB so I figured it'll work well. Now then, I use it on XP and I can hear it just fine, everyone else can hear it too. I try it on Vista and it's extremely quiet. I am using Ventrilo to talk to people incase that is needed to be known. So basically I ask, how do I make it more sensative to sound?

Thanks.

I loaded up some Team Fortress 2 on my new build and noticed the sound cuts out after a few seconds of consecutive audio. This happens on all programs now but I've also noticed that when the raw audio (not me turning up and down the volume) is fine when it's loud and when it gets a small bit quiet it cuts out completely. Is this an issue I can resolve in setting or is there something wrong with my headset? By the way, the sound is fine without the headset on the speakers.

Headset works perfectly in other systems by the way.

Hello everyone. I was was given a headset by a good friend of mine since mine had recently broke. He assured me that the headset was fine since he had used it the previous night and both audio and recording worked fine. When I had arrived home and tested it I found that only audio was working but my computer wasn't tracking the detecting sound going into the mic we currently have two different operating systems I'm currently on Windows 7 Ultimate whilst he's currently on Windows Vista Home premium. The mic he had given me is a none USB mic, the link to the mic can be found at: Philips - Webcam Share - SPC1035NC/00 - Webcams with headsets - Webcams and headsets - PC products and phones .

You have the driver for the onboard sound installed? Unless someone has one hidden somewhere the best you['re going to get for it is the Vista driver from gateway,

I play games like counterstrike and rust where listening to where people are coming from is very important, however, my headset doesn't allow me to do that and instead mixes the sounds.

Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2 IE9

Brief history.....
I re-installed Vista from scratch 2 days ago.
From Vista iso > bootable DVd > reinstall > updates > Sp1 > SP2.

details of my adventure can be read in this 2 links :
vista iso
unable to create Visa recovery disc

Now everything is back to normal EXCEPT there is no sound. There was no sound since I re-installed. I let it slide and continued on to SP2 installation and IE9.
There is no Windows sounds, and no sound in playing music UNLESS I plug in the headset.

I have checked ....
the volume, of course
the level settings in Playback, Record, on the Speakers. They are on high.
Microsoft Fix It appliction on No Sound. No help.

Any ideas ?

Oh, I did go to Device Manager and checked the Sound, Video and game controllers section. All updated. No yellow exclamation marks.

Hello. I am new to this. I am a medical transcriptionist. Our jobs have gone to online voice recognition in these past 2-5 years. I have had jobs where I can hear the doctors reports just fine in my headset. I started a new job and the audio is terrible, to the point where I will have to quit. A man from India downloaded a system MP3 player yesterday and it fixed most of the static and audio problems however, when I started up my computer today the noises and static were back. Please please help, I have been without a paycheck because of this! Thanks, Susan

So i've been browsing forums for a while now and can't find out what's going on. I have a sound card with Realtek HD Audio. Recently, I connected a PCIM cord to my motherboard so I can have sound on an HDTV, which works fine. SINCE then, this problem started. The front ports for MIC and sound don't work at all, I don't get an "audio device detected" message. If i plug my headset MIc and Sound into the back of the PC, i hear the sound but so does everyone else instead of my Voice. I can tell this i whats happening because when I right click on recording options i see the bars on the mic moving with my sounds. Now if I unplug the sound portion and leave the MIC in, it does pick up my voice as normal. I can even plug in my speakers and they will play sound and it will work that way. not really ideal for a headset however, I'm not sure what setting to change or what to do to get this to work. Also the headset does not show up in playback devices, i have show hidden and unused checked. I tried to update my drivers but when I try to install them windows gives me a "untrsuted" pop-p that re-appears not matter how many times I select allow. any ideas?

A:My sound is going through PC instead of the MIC with headset

When you are using HDMI, that becomes the defaul audio playback device. In order for the PC sound system (including headphones) to work or properly work the "Speakers" (your sound card) must be set as the default audio playback device.

Windows only allows you to have one default audio playback device, e.g. HDMI OR Speakers but not both.

I bought steelseries siberia v2 non USB and when I got them they haven't been working. Microphone or sound. They do work on my ipod at least! I'm running windows 8. When I first plug them in, my computer doesn't recognize them. To at least get SOMETHING to recognize, I have to go into my realtek audio driver control panel, and CHECK [disable front jack detection]. After I check that, my computer recognizes a (SPEAKERS) and (MICROPHONE) from realtek, both of which play nothing. I have tried reinstalling drivers, reverting drivers, new drivers, I have tried plugging into different jacks, I have tried making it my default device, I have tried everything I can think of. Can you help me
