"application init error" when accessing Dell support web site

Q: "application init error" when accessing Dell support web site

I have just done a fresh install of Windows 10 on an Inspiron 17 and want to update drivers. I go to the Dell support web site and want to start the automatic system detection. The result is an error page saying: "Error: 500 Server Error. Application Init Error. We are unable to display the requested page."
Then I enter my service tag. Here, the result is that the service tag is not found (I am paraphrasing a Japanese message).
Perhaps there is a problem with the Japanese web site? I go to the front page at dell.com and change the country to USA. After a moment, the same Japanese front page is displayed again.
Any suggestions what I can do to update the drivers?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Do you have a recovery restore install disc or partition?
You can try doing a repair or system file check...
Scan For Missing/Corrupt System Files...

Windows XP comes with a wonderful tool called System File Checker (SFC)
Itscans and verifies the versions of all protected system files after you restart your computer...
To Do This:
Click Start menu, and then click the Run icon.
In the small box that Opens, type the three letters: cmd then click the OK button.
In the command prompt window that just opened (a black background and white text), type the following command:
SFC /scannow
And then click OK
You must be logged on as a member of the Administrators group to run SFC..
You will need your Windows XP CD during this procedure if SFC needs to get an original file. Please remember that Windows XP can have multiple instances of a .DLL file and remember which version is for which program.
Notes....
I have been asked if it is possible to have a "progress meter" show when SFC runs... This is the registry hack you need. PLEASE do not go messing with your registry if you do NOT know what you are doing!

hi guys,

im having some issues when running a game (not through the internet website, through the downloaded launcher for it) sometimes it will crash and say: "application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware" and the games graphics will freeze. ive redownloaded the game launcher and ive tried to update the graphics card but it says that its already up to date so im not sure how to fix it. the drivers say 2015 but i cant find if there are any drivers more recent than that, ive trid generic intel automatic driver detection and installation wizard but the drivers it finds say theyre not compatible with my laptop: Acer Aspire V3-572 15.6-inch Notebook (Silver) (Intel Core i5-4210U 1.7GHz, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, DVDSM DL, WLAN, Bluetooth, Webcam, Integrated Graphics, Windows 8.1): Amazon.co.uk: Computers Accessories (this is the exact laptop i have)

originally it would say my display driver had crashed and recovered so i changed the timeout on the registry key: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/2665946 (i know its vista and win 7 but it worked).

Hello,
I am writing because I have been the victim of what I believe is a "Dell's inside job" in this technical support scam to Dell computer users out of warranty or expired technical support based in INDIA. I have been a DELL customer since 2003, always had the best tech support with no problem, even when I called once about 7 years ago, they cleaned my computer for $49.00 which was ok with me with no problem. I bought an all in one computer in 2012, with 3 years of tech support. My problem started when I called DELL April/2016 of course I didn't get help because my computer wasn't covered, they wanted me to pay $89,00 one time service, at that time what I really wanted was to get my computer back to windows 8.1 I wasn't happy with 10, my computer was running fine. A week later I started getting calls from ladies with Hindu accent claiming to be from Dell wanting to help me fix my computer. I was always busy and I told them I had no time to seat for 2 hours to do it. They kept on calling, until one day exactly a month ago 8/29/16, I had the time to fix my slow computer and accepted their offer. He gave his security Id # DELL9929 his name: Eric Thomas with an Hindu accent, I asked him: Are you really from Dell? He reassured me that he was, that they were getting signals from my computer that something was wrong. I believed him because m... Read more

I received a call today from "Samuel Matthews" that claimed to be from Dell Tech Support. As soon as he told me he was from dell and that I was being hacked, I knew it was a scam and I started to record the call! He claimed that they were receiving a "signal" from my Dell computer that showed that it was being hacked! He then asked me if I had a computer with the service tag (He provided me my correct service tag) that I am not going to disclose. I told him that I was an IT Professional and that I knew that NO ONE had gotten into my computer.
I know that some how and some way they must have hacked into Dell's System and retrieved my information! I had filled out the form attached to one of the messages in this forum that Dell ask us to fill out. It is the the right of Dell's customers to know the truth about these scammers getting my information and what they plan on doing to protect us and to assure us that it will not happen again! I am also contacting my *** about this situation! Right now I am extremely upset about this situation!

A:Received call from "Dell Tech Support" which I knew was a scam!

Hi Patrickg355,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Protection of your data is a top priority for Dell. Unfortunately, technology phone scams have become prevalent across our industry. We would love for you to take a moment to help us stop cybercriminals by reporting the details about your interaction. Please complete this form. This will allow us to investigate further. Also, please read this Wiki which has more helpful data. Note, Dell would not call you unsolicited. The only time we would contact you would be through the DellConnect software or the Dell Support Center software. But only after you agreed to this within the software.
Thank you,

OK.....i am on an XP operating system on a dell. everytime one of the users logs off, we get the window that says "ending program sprtcmd.exe", and then we have to go and end program manually every time we log off. i read a similar post on here where someone was having that problem, and was told it was related to the dell support center, and they were advised to uninstall it. i tried to uninstall the dell support center, and this message pops up:

"Error 1306. Another application has exclusive access to the file c:/Documents and settings\Barb\Local Settings\Application Data\Support Soft\Dell Support Center\Barb\state\ logs\sprtcmd.log.
Please shut down all other applications then click Retry"

It will not let me click retry, i have to close out the little window or hit cancel, then it goes through a little more of the "windows configuring", and then i get a little window for "add or remove programs" that says "fatal error during installation" and then that's that. it won't let me uninstall the program!
i know this isn't a major problem or anything, but still having to manually click that window everytime i log off is quite aggrivating.
any help would be greatly appreciated!!

It would appear that the BIOS routine is hanging at the point where it in the process of detecting the HDDs/SSDs on your computer. Try disconnecting them to see what happens. If the BIOS then completes its routine (ignore the message about missing OS), reconnect one drive at a time until it hangs again. Verify that this is the drive causing the problem by disconnecting it again.

Hello fahri I am no expert but what about taking out the old battery and replacing it with a new one. Let it stand for a while fist to let the caps discharge fully and try resetting the BIOS. Worth a try cos like you said noting much on a Google.

We are having an issue with Internet Explorer 10 affecting users on a number of our Windows 8 workstations. When a user visits a web site that uses the Local Storage feature of HTML5, the page is not displayed correctly. For example, if you visit this page:
http://jsfiddle.net/xFtQR/
You should see text in the grey boxes in the lower-right hand corner if everything is working. For the affected users, nothing is displayed. In addition, if you open the F12 Developer Tools and reload the page, the following error message is displayed: "SCRIPT5:
Access is denied.". It appears the LocalStorage feature is broken for these users.
From the troubleshooting I've done so far, I've determined that this issue does not affect the Local Administrator account on these computers, but it does affect any domain user and any new local user I create, whether the local user is in the Administrators
group or not. This leads me to believe the issue may be related to the default user profile in the image that was applied to these computers.
Other observations:

Performing a complete reset of Internet Explorer settings (from Tools > Internet Options... > Advanced) does not resolve the issueThese sites do work correctly after turning off Protected Mode for the Internet Zone (from Tools > Internet Options... > Security) These sites also work correctly when InPrivate Browsing is turned on

With some excellent detective work by Microsoft Product Support (thanks Siddarth!), the solution has been found.
It turns out that in addition to the security settings on a folder, there is an integrity setting. More information about it is
here.
The integrity setting on the AppData\LocalLow folder in each user's profile is supposed to be set to "Low" (hence the name, presumably). In our case, the integrity level was not set correctly on this folder. To rectify the problem, we will need
to run the following command under each user's profile (with a login script, for example):
icacls %userprofile%\Appdata\LocalLow /t /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)L
As for how this incorrect setting was propagated in the first place, it is because the LocalLow folder in the C:\Users\Default\Appdata folder in our customized OS image had the wrong setting. The C:\Users\Default folder is the template for a new user profile,
so each new user on these computers was affected. I examined the C:\Users\Default\AppData folder on another machine without a customized user template and found the LocalLow folder is not present at all, so in our environment we will be deleting the C:\Users\Default\AppData\LocalLow
from each machine to prevent the issue from affecting future new users.
EDIT: If the command above does not resolve the issue, the registry key that points to the low integrity DOMStore folder may have been changed. Check the
CachePath registry value at HKCU\Software\Microso... Read more

This is a new one..
Problem Description: "Incorrect Function" error occurs everytime I try to access a CD drive or a floppy drive.

My computer does not read any CD drives or the floppy drive. The BIOS recognizes everything perfectly. Even in Windows (device manager) everything is installed correctly, however, whenever I click on the CD drives (regular CD & CDRW), or the floppy drive icon, it gives me an "incorrect function" error.

Funny thing is that my CD-Writer program recognizes both cd drives perfectly, infact, I used my cd burner to make a copy of a music and a data cd with no problems. I can even browse the cds from within the cd-burner program, but I simply am not able to browse it through win explorer.

When I initially installed win2000, it worked ok, so I messed up somewhere.

I am running a P4 on a an ASUS P4B266 motherboard with plenty of HD and 1 GIg RAM

Frequency of problem: Always Happens
Operating system / version: Windows 2000

Hi all,

I'm puzzling this one. In the folder options when I choose 'view' the radio button to show the hidden files is missing. I've already checked the registry at the HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/Advanced/Hidden

and everything seems ok (value for 'Type' is 'group' etc.). Using the XP tweak (Kelly's corner #155) shows the hidden files, but the button still missing.

Another thing that I encountered with was that from the start menu the "Help and Support" not working. Again, the registry seems fine, and the process is activated (started). This came up when I tried to use system restore option - with no success.

Virus scan didn't find alerts of any kind

A:missing "show hidden files" button + "Help and Support" not working from start menu

Ok I found the answer (after quite a lot searching), as follows:

1. for the 'Hidden files' radio button - I used methods 1 and 2 from here-
http://www.technize.com/2007/05/13/s...s-not-working/

2. for the helpcenter I just reinstalled it as described here -
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/rebuildhelp.htm
note that the file 'dataspec.xml' is needed to be available for this, and it can't be done directly from the XP CD. The thing that worked for me was to insert the XP CD, and use the file that in my computer (C:\) and afterwards another file on the CD.

Again, all this happened with no virus detection, so I believe that there is no infection. However, if someone has remarks on the HiJackThis log I've put, feel free to add them.

Have a nice day,

Fitch.

If your BIOS doesn't include such options, then they simply are not there.

I don't know about hacking BIOS's, and I wouldn't suggest it at all. You could brick your motherboard.

However, you should check with your manufacturer's website and see if there is an update available for the BIOS that may increase available options.

I usually have to click "no" two or three times to get Firefox to finally open. And then, when I close Firefox down again, there the same script error message box is AGAIN! Sometimes 2 or 3 copies of it! So apparently the problem page keeps on TRYING to load.

The URL for the page that is apparently trying to run is: https://ubp-common-us-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/require/require.js

I'm assuming the page is somehow related to Amazon but the script error shows up even when I don't attempt to go to any site related to Amazon. I've tried removing Amazon from my bookmarks and toolbar. No luck.

And, as far as I know, I don't use any Amazon Web Services which I've now figured out is what the "aws" part of the URL refers to. But, since it seems that Amazon now has a finger in every pie, who knows?

Any suggestions for how to fix this? I run Windows 10 on an HP Notebook.

BTW - I'm brand new to Techguy so if this isn't the right forum, please tell me how to request that my question be moved. Thank you in advance.

I'm using Windows XP Pro.

A few weeks ago I tried installing new ATI video drivers and got the message that I needed to be logged on as Administrator when I tried opening the ATI Control Centre.

In the Registry Editor I cannot add or change any entries, getting the message "Cannot import E:\Blah\Blah\Blah.reg: Error accessing the registry."

This user account has administrator rights.

I restarted my computer in safemode, logged on as Administrator and still get the same error message when trying to add entries to the registry.

I have run PC-cillin, Spy Sweeper, and HijackThis; PC-cillin and Spy Sweeper haven't picked anything up.

Below is my HijackThis log (I don't know whats normal and what's not):

I have Windows 7 and a Motorola SB5101 Modem. My problem is that I'm getting a consistent "connection timed out" error on a specific website and no other site seems to be affected by it on three different browsers. The only thing I can figure is something having to do with a brief power outage that happened last night. I have tried disabling all my AV/Firewall programs, resetting the modem, trying to open port 443 (the port mentioned in the error message), system restore a couple days back and safe mode with networking, all to no avail.

Okay, Hi everyone! My computer stinks! haha Its pretty slow to load everything when I start up. I tried eliminating some of the things at startup, which helped a tad. Anyhow. I had viruses before but just recently got rid of them, which Im sure some still remain but it seems their gone for the most part besides my computer being slow and a few pop ups here and there.

Anyway, my computer is slow. When I turn it on, upon loading.. I get an error message... stating:

RUN DLL
Error loading:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\inpuxoci.dll

Anyhow, ironically.. I just restarted my computer so that I could write down exactly what it said to post it.... and it came up but then another one came up for the first time!!!

RUN DLL

Hi

I got a NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M grafical card in my notebook. However, most of the time I use the Intel integrated graphics (Ci7-2670QM processor). All NVIDIA drivers and NVIDIA applications are installed too.

When I double-click any 3D picture file (*.jps file), the NVIDIA 3D Vision Photo Viewer is then called; however, the app doesn't seem to find the display adapter of nvidia and generates an error:
"primary display's adapter does not support nvidia 3d vision".

I tried to fix the problem using the NVIDIA's Control Panel by setting the gt540m as the preferred gpu, and rebooting the computer a few times, but it does not help; the error keeps on popping up. I've also associated the gt540m as the preferred gpu specifically for the /NVIDIA 3D Vision Photo Viewer/ app, but also that does not help, not even after a few reboots.

I read somewhere one should install the NVIDIA Optimus app but I prefer to solve the problem manually and not let the problem be solved in a hidden way by some other app---Optimus in this case.

So, any suggestions how I should start tackling the problem?

Thanks in advance,
Johan

Hello there~

Recently, I have encountered a number of rather disturbing problems with my Computer(Windows XP).

With a number of programs, such as CCleaner, SuperAntiSpyware, WinDS Pro, MyDefrag etc. etc.... I got an Error... R6002 - floating point support not loaded. Usually. The Error either appeared when I start the program or when I do something with the program~ For example, CCleaner only got this Error after ending a system cleaning, thus closing. MyDefrag gets the problem all the time but it can be ignored - the program works completely fine.
I tried several things to get rid of the error - checking my registry with different programs, using a multitute of antivirus programs, deinstalling and/or reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++, reinstalling all the affected programs... To no avail - nothing has helped in the least bit.
But while trying to figure this problem out, I encountered another rather disturbing problem: Some of my downloads just won't finish. For example, if I try to download CCleaner from ANY site, no matter which, the download will either always stop at the last missing bytes, dropping to 0 kbps and doing nothing, or the download has 0kbps from the start. I tried a number of things, like restarting the computer, cancelling the download and restarting it... to no avail, once again. The only thing that worked is: Downloading a downloader for the program, like it is always the case on softonic or the likes. By downloading a downloader first, it someti... Read more

A:Severe Downloading Issues and "Runtime Error: Floating Point Support Not Loaded"

The file npswf32.dll is for Flash, but my copy is named npswf32_11_6_602_180.dll & dated 3-12-2013

errors like "floating point support not loaded" are created in two ways:
1) the floating point library can not be found
2) the program attempting to load it is not the correct version for your hardware platform.

Your system integrity is questionable (ie likely to be infected), but I would first investigate the Eventlog using Eventvwr.msc and look for errors in the System Log.

Highly recommend you run SFC /SCANNOW (but you will need your install CD or to borrow one from a friend - - it must match your currently installed system).

For about the past 3 month I have started to see fairly frequent app crashes with the "application has stopped working error". It appears this started the week of 4/8 (from what I can tell via Reliability Monitor.)

Here are some of the applications that have been affected:
Zune.exe
wlmail.exe
Microsoft intellipoint
Windows Desktop Gadgets
Skype
ehshell.exe

I did not make any major system/application changes (besides plugging in a new wireless keyboard temporarily)

My system is a Dell XPS 420 running Windows 7 Ultimate x86 (about 4 years old). OS runs on a 100GB SSD that was clean installed about 22 months ago.

Trying to find out if there is some larger issue mounting. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

See if re-installing your Microsoft Mouse software resolves your problems. First, uninstall the software through Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Uninstall a program. Then download the latest version of the software if you can. If it is not available for download, use your disc that came with your mouse. Install the software fresh.

My understanding of the information given in your logs came from Microsoft IntelliPoint Readme and Release Notes. Good luck!

My Win 7x64 desktop was off for several days, with the console unplugged. Upon first start up today, I was prompted to update the AMD driver to Catalyist 12.10, which I did. It seemed to have an effect on another app that I wanted to reverse, so I ran System Restore to right before the computer was last shut down. It returned an error message, and again after a normal reboot: It read that System Restore didn't complete running. "The data is invalid (0x8007000D)." Running System Restore to later time points got the same result.

Later, I tried a cold boot into System Repair, F8 (nothing found). The System Restore error message now was as follows:

"rstrui.exe - Application error
The instruction at 0xfb30584d referenced memory at
0x00000008. The memory could not be read."

I did a google search on rstrui.exe error, but didn't find a lot and so far none of it has worked. The last system image backup before today was two weeks ago, so that's not a welcome option. Any ideas what the problem might be and how to get Sys Restore going again? Thanks,

A:System Restore doesn't work: "rstrui.exe - application error"

By chance, do you have Agnitum Outpost firewall on your machine? Other forum threads indicate this could cause problems for system restore. The recommended solution was to disable a function called Self Protection.

You could also see if there are any damaged or corrupt system files by running a system file checker scan from and elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found run the scan 3 times and reboot your computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Any quick help would be greatly appreciated. I was trying to fix some BSOD's and windows update issues on a friend's pc. I thought i was successful until i kept getting "Setup has detected that .NET Framework 4 needs to be repaired. Do not restart your computer until the repair is complete."

After some research, I thought I could resolve the issue with the .net framework cleanup tool. After attempting that, now I get the "Application was unable to start properly (0xc0150004)" error message. The only program I've been able to start has been IE8. This also means I wasn't able to run the BSOD tool you guys provide for posting.

I've tried startup repair more than a couple times. Also tried system restore from the windows recovery environment and it said it was unable to complete. 50% of the time, when trying to get into the recovery environment or just the regular system, I get an "irql_less_or_not_eual" blue screen.

When i originally started working on the pc i cleaned a bunch of viruses off (or so i thought). I have a sneaking suspicion that this issue was caused by a virus with a sneaky backdoor and is masquerading as some .net files.

the system was built by my friend and has: Asus p5ql pro MOBO, Intel core 2 duo, currently 4gigs mem (2x2gb corsair), NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS and a WD HD.

I hope I've given some good starting information.

Thanks

The next time you get the error msg, look at the details.

I forget exactly how, but you get to a dialog with a description and data listed in a lower pane. On that dialog is an icon with a paper-page. Clicking the icon will copy all the data to the Clipboard. Now paste into Notepad and SAVE.

Examine the data. You can also copy paste the text into a reply on this thread.

I posted this in the Multimedia folder, but I don't know if it really belongs there or not, so please delete the other one for me. I don't seem to be able to myself.

Here is the full error when I try to record:

"Another application is recording audio. Stop recording with this other application and then try to record with Sound Recorder again." I have turned off all of the start up programs, restarted my computer, and even uninstalled TotalRecorder, which I thought was causing the problem.

I have tried to use Audio Audicity to record as well, but I get an error message there also, so something is really screwing everything up for me.

Hi there,

I don't usually have virus problems but yesterday managed to get the super-annoying "Vista Guardian 2010" all over my computer. I followed some tips and ran AVG, and Spybot and it seemed to have got rid of it.

hxxp://www.myantispyware.com/2010/01/28/how-to-remove-vista-antispyware-2010-vista-antivirus-2010-vista-guardian/ - that's the actual instructions I followed.

Thing is, now I've got this intensely annoying issue with my Firefox link (and IE link, if I choose for that to be there) on start menu. It just doesn't work, and every time I click I just get an error message saying "explorer.exe application not found" then it asks me if I want to remove the non-working link. I tried setting the associations again in Default Program and have searched the internet for tips, but can't seem to beat it. Also tried some an .exe fix file but no luck. As far as I can tell, nothing else is affected, but I don't have a clue if it's still infected or my laptop is just wounded now.

Any help would be much appreciated. Oh, and I don't have access to a boot disk or Windows disc.
