Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2 Charging via phone charger

Q: Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2 Charging via phone charger

Hi!I have Samsung Galaxy S8. It have USB Type-C connector and charger which can deliver up to ~18W(?). I know from some sources that I can charge my phone via Laptop charger (it will step down voltages and amps accordingly). But I'm curious if it will work another way around. So if I can charge X1 Yoga 2 with Samsung Galaxy S8 charger?Best RegardsTomas.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

i'm trying to charge via the essentialphone charger which charges at 9v 3a (27w) but it's not working. it SEEMS to be able to keep it not discharging, however it doesnt charge. and if i turn off computer, it still doesnt charge. very weird?

A:Yoga 720 13" not charging via 27W usb-c charger

Not weird.  The 720 needs 20V to charge.  If your adapter can't provide that or correctly negotiate that it's not surprising that it doesn't work.

Hi, I have  a Thinkpad X380 Yoga. The Thunderbolt 3 Dock will not charge my Thinkpad X380 YOGA, and a message saying that the dock is not providing enough power shows up on my minitor. I wonder if anyone have a solution to this problem. It does not make  sense to have to connect the Thunderbold AND the AC power to the Thinkpad, it should be just ONE Thunderbold cord. 1. My power brick is 135W, 20V-6.75A2. I am connecting the Thunderbolt to throuogh the port on the back of the dock.3. I have went to BIOS  and under power section, "disable the battary for technical service" and pwered it back on. None of the above solutions worked.

Hi geminihc!

Thanks for posting in our community

As per checking, this model Yoga 720 does not have power delivery (a protocol specification which supports power delivery up to 100W of power while transmitting data in a single cable. It's designed to be a more universal charging standard that allows a range of devices (not just smartphones) to charge quickly over a USB connection) reason why the phone will not charge. You may check the product specifications in this link as well https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/Lenovo%20Tablets%20_%20Convertibles/Yoga%20720%20(15_)/Yoga...

I?ve troubleshooted as much as I could and thought I saved enough battery for implementing a solution once I found it but it is completely dead. It seems that a lot of people across many models suddenly have an issue with charging and I noticed a firmware update for the charging port was released right before I started experiencing the issue but it would not let me install the update because it said I didn?t have any ports. I need this computer for my profession and it?s been out of commission for a week or so now. I am desperate for a fix! Where is Lenovo Support?

The only firmware update I know about is for the docking station.  I don't think this is a general problem.  Are you still under warranty?  Many are. What is the condition of the battery.  Will it start on A/C?  Are you sure your charger is working?

Hi, I don't always write on forums cause there is mostly solution to my past problems, but this time the issue I have run into is awkward.Let me start from beginning:It was normal day, I was cleaning my laptop(it gets dirty very fast), after that I did my daily work, watched YouTube and etc. Two days later I had to go to another city by train. Trip was a bit long, so I decided to finish my work. At 15 minutes it worked normally, then touchpad started unexpectedly behave. If I just put my finger on it, cursor started going up and down, like on straight line. The same thing happened when I put my finger on screen. I couldn't fix that and gave up.Next day I started to use my laptop, at first couple of hours it behaved normally, then when I plugged it into socket, it didn't charge (battery precentage remained stable) then it mouse started misbehave(as it was yesterday). I restarted it. Updated BIOS. Nothing changed. Tried to look at process hacker to find smth, but it freezed. Plugged my phone to laptop it started lagging (**bleep**). Thought it was virus rebooted into Ubuntu from USB. Battery still haven't charged, phone still lagging, touchpad fixed a Little bit. Need help.

I have recently bought a Thinkpad Yoga 460 with Thinkpad Pen Pro. I leave it in the laptop slot for charging for more than a day and it gives me only a few minutes of usage. As per the user guide, it should be 80% charge in 15 seconds and 100% after 5 minutes. But it runs out of charge very soon. It shows me the low battery level indicator as soon as I use it on the screen. First day of usage (appox 4 days ago) it gave me about 30 - 45 minutes of continuous. But after that not more than 5 minutes. Please let me know if this is an issue with the Pen or Laptop charging port. Is there any way I can troubleshoot it?Please also let me know the average usage time for the pen, if you are continuously using it.

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

I do not have that kind of pen, but I think is the one that has some "bronce contacts" at the top of the pen. I had read some other post about it, just in case check that "contacts" to make sure they are touching with the charger when you put the pen into it's holder. Sometimes the contacts may move.

Hello everyone,About a week ago, I got an error message saying something like the battery cannot be identified (I'm trying to find a screenshot somewhere).Since that moment, the battery does not charge when the AC adapter is plugged in, while the battery is nearly full (>90%).I found this thread and it fits exactly to my problem: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Thinkpad-Yoga-14-battery-quot-plugged-i... I understand that this behaviour might be a feature to improve the batteries lifespan, but I really want to get rid of that. The Lenovo Settings App offers the option to manually set the charging-threshold to 40-100%, but setting it to 100% or turning the feature off does not change anything.Another side effect is that the charging process does not begin until about 1 minute after the AC adapter is plugged in.I didn't knowingly change anything on the software configuration when the problem appeared, the said error message appeared while watching YouTube-videos. lg, couka

Hi, welcome to the forums.

I do not know a solution for your problem, but I want to suggest you some trial an error to see if it can be software related issue.

1) Check the Lenovo Settings and see if it asks you to update the System Interface Foundation drivers.
2) Check the support site and just in case check that you have the latest BIOS and the latest "Lenovo Power Management Driver for Windows 10 "

After that check the "Lenovo Settings" and give it a try turning on the option of "extended the battery life", set it to a 80% and give it some time for it to discharge. After that disable that feature to see if the battery charges back again.

Also on "Lenovo Settings", on the same "battery/power" page it has a "restablish" options, maybe you can also try that later.

Sorry that this is just some trial and error, but it is what it cames to my mind right now.

That didnt help. Any ideas greatly appreciated

A:Yoga Thinkpad S1 not charging, new battery etc

Where have you purchased this battery? Many batteries that are not original can get swollen and be dangerous. Also the reason why some suggest to hold the power button for 20 seconds and remove the battery is to remove any static electricity from the laptop and to "callibrate" the battery.

A:Thinkpad Yoga Charging Indicator

Hi Rango,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to inform you that Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga doesn?t have a dedicated indicator for charging status.

The illuminated dots in the ThinkPad logo on the outer lid of your computer and on the palm rest show the system status of your computer:

? Blinks for three times: The computer is initially connected to the power.
? On: The computer is on (in normal mode).
? Off: The computer is off or in hibernation mode.
? Blinks fast: The computer is entering sleep or hibernation mode.
? Blinks slowly: The computer is in sleep mode.

Hope this clarified your query!

Best regards,
Mithun.

A:Thinkpad Yoga 14 battery "plugged in, not charging...

It isn't a problem.  The battery has a nearly full charge, so the charging turns off so as not to "cook" the battery.  If you unplug the battery and let it run down a while, then plug it in, it will charge.  I tend not to charge mine until it gets under about 70%.  A Lithium battery slowly degrades after a certain number of charges.

Could you also tell us a bit more about the configuration?     What phone did you plug in, and what is the specifified input power required for charging that phone?  (You could look at the output power rating of the adapter that came with the phone).

Which USB port did you plug the phone into?

How much charge did the ThinkPad battery have when you put it to sleep? (Suspend)  Also, please confirm you put it in suspend / sleep vs hibernation?

Thanks!

Hi there, I have a question with regards to power management for my Lenovo thinkpad x1 yoga 3rd. I tried finding a solution to be able to manage the charging threshold points myself. However, anything I found points to either old solutions (Lenovo Companion, Lenovo Settings) or it doesn't seem to be fully working for my device and environment (Windows 10).I have ended up installing Lenovo Vantage from the Windows App Store but I notice that:- it takes a long time for the app to start (several minutes)- there is no "Power" menu item under HW I am not sure if the app is compatible with my device? For example, the Update System Drivers function doesn't seem to work at all. I triggered the same and the hour glass indicates gathering information but nothing seems to happen (I waited for more then 30 min).  So, as I usually work off the power supply and only seldom on battery, I want to be able to limit charging of the battery to a max of 80 or 85%. I found some instructions on tweaking registry settings but all they did so far is showing the battery icon in the task bar (but maybe that came with the Lenovo Vantage installation, I can't be fully sure).  I read several posts that the threshold settings are not necessary for modern / new systems but being an electrical engineer and having read up on the Lithium Ion Battery charging issue, I beg to differ! Unless the battery is calibrated to show 100% at a "true" 85% charge, charging the las... Read more

I am currently on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, but I can also use it with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Best, ct529

When I plug the charger in the message on the battery icon on the bottom toolbar reads as "73%, plugged in, not charging". Obviously the laptop is recognising the charger (i.e "plugged in") but it is not allowing the battery to charge.
I have installed every update on the computer and I have recently searched for any outstanding BIOS updates. The system seems to suggest there is a BIOS update to be installed yet when I try to install it the system says that it cannot detect a charger, and won't complete the update, or it won't complete the update without a charger plugged in in the first place. It's a no-win situation. The computer and charger are only 14 months old so this is very unsatisfactory. When I remove the battery the computer operates on AC power only, so again the charger is working, it simply won't charge the battery and therefore once the battery runs down to 0, which it will eventually, I will be limited to using AC power only.
If I restart the laptop with the charger plugged in it diverts me to a warning page saying that the charger is not recognised and I am given the option to go to the BIOS setup, go to diagnostics or to continue. If I choose "continue" it simply returns me to this warning page every time so the only way to power up the laptop is to do so with the AC charger out, and to then plug it in once the system has started so that the battery doesn't drain completely.
Please help.

A:Inspiron 15 5559 charger not charging battery (manufacturers charger being used)

An unrecognized AC adapter will not charge the battery.
First try a new OEM Dell adapter.  If that's also not recognized, replace the DC power jack:

If neither the new adapter nor the DC jack solves the problem, you've got a bad charge circuit - replace the mainboard.

We have 2 X1 Yoga 2nd Gen laptops that had the same issue. Thunderbolt failure that led to a missing thunderbolt controller and no longer charging. Before anyone suggestsThings we have done:pressed the reset buttonunplugged the cmos batterychanged the battery completelyDownloaded new drivers but Thunderbolt controller is missing and can't update. (they are both dead so and I can't remember exactly what is going wrong)Can't update firmware since we can't keep it on a charger as it wont charge. Currently don't have a Yoga X1 Gen 2 doner laptop except my coworkers so he is haven't to swap the batter in and out to give it power to do more testing when he can. I am assuming this is a full board replacement as they didn't seperate the Powerboard from the Mainboard unlike what they did with the Power switch which is on a seperate board....seems odd to me. Any doner board would come from a thirdparty and isn't something we are willing to do at this time. I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem as this is 2 out of the 8 we bought that are completely dead. Any help would be greatfully apprecitated. Thanks, S
