Q: Acer Laptop on Vista keeps rebooting everytime it goes into sleep/shutdown!!

Hello
Here are the details of my machine:

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium, Service Pack 2, 32 bit
Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4200 @ 2.00GHz, x64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10

Motherboard: Acer, JV50
Antivirus: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2013, Updated and Enabled

I am not very technical so do not understand a lot of the comments on here I'm afraid. My laptop for a while now has not been able to go into sleep mode. Everytime I close the lid it reboots itself and comes back up with the black screen you get when it has crashed. Also I cannot turn it off. As soon as I try and turn it off it again restarts itself as if it has crashed. The laptop is permanently whirring away as it is never able to turn off unless we remove the power and let the battery drain, which is a bit extreme.

Please can you help as this is driving me mad!

Preferred Solution: Acer Laptop on Vista keeps rebooting everytime it goes into sleep/shutdown!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I've been trying to set up my old Acer Aspire Timeline X pc as a Plex media server. I noticed that the laptop immediately wakes from sleep. When idle it'll eventually go into sleep mode and then immediately wake again. This is confirmed from the event viewer log but the reason for wake is listed as unknown.

Running powercfg -requests from the command line indicated Legacy Kernel Caller preventing sleep mode but I can't figure out what the root cause is. I have just clean installed Windows 10 and even after that the PC won't sleep. I've tried disabling network drivers etc but no luck. I have also noticed that when I opt to shutdown from the Windows 10 start menu, the PC shutsdown but then immediately boots again. So it's restarting not shutting down. Don't know if the two are related?

If anyone can offer any advice I'd appreciate it. It'll make a good media server PC but I don't want it running all the time. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I have recently bought an Acer E5-571-54YJ.The laptop works fine and fits my needs for school. Only problem what i have with it is that it won't shutdown or go into sleepmode. When I shut it down after a couple seconds when the screen goes black i hear the hard drive shut down and the fans stop spinning but the blue light stays on. I have to then manually turn it off by holding the on/off button.Same with putting it into sleeping mode. The light stays on and I can't turn it back on again. I first have to manually shut it down by holding the on/off button and then start it back up again.I have tried turning off the fast bootup but that won't solve the problem.I hope someone can help me fast cause it is really annoying that I can't put it into sleep mode.If you need more information just ask. Greetings,Jean-Paul

Hey guys having an issue with my friends laptop. It's an HP G62 with Intel I3 running windows 7.

I have had to replace the screen and ever since it hasn't shutdown or gone into sleep mode properly. It will turn the screen off but the machine will still be running (fans etc) and the only way to turn it off is with the power button.

I have tried alternating the RAM and it doesn't appear to be a Windows issue. The BIOS looks a bit outdated (F.07...I think the latest update is F.36) but I'm sketchy about about flashing the BIOS because if the laptop wont restart properly I don't want to kill the laptop.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

A:Laptop won't shutdown / sleep

What have you got setup in the Power Options for sleep and hibernation. There is a setting to select what it should do when you close the lid, have you set that?

Try shutting it down from safe mode and see if that works, that may give some clues to the problem.

I read an eery posting from May, describing an Acer user trying to re-install Windows XP, only to find that the computer would shut down suddenly about 10 minutes into the re-install. My wife has an Acer laptop that performs fine through boot-up, and then suddenly shuts down after about 10 minutes. It's happened both on battery power and when the computer is plugged in, so that adds to the mystery. I originally thought it might be some kind of virus - the computer's virus software needed to be upgraded and I had a multi-user copy of Norton Internet Security, so I downloaded it from the Symantec website and entered my key code. That part appeared to go fine, however to my knowledge that's when the sudden shut-down problem began, but I'm not absolutely positive. Once the Symantec software loaded it wanted to update the virus definitions, etc. but the computer would shut down after 10 minutes and it was never able to update all the things it wanted to update. I also tried to bypass the update and scan for viruses, but had the same problem - the computer shuts down in the middle of the scan.

Any suggestions?

I would rather the default shutdown option be "Shut Down", instead of "Sleep". As of yet I havent found anything on it. Is it one of those obvious things I keep missing? Nothing found in control panel -> power options that I can find.

For now, I've set up a kluge like so:
Created a shortcut to "C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /s /t 10" (hard shutdown with a ten second delay), and dragged it to my start menu.

It seems to work fine, but wouldnt it be nice to just adjust the existing shutdown option?

Any insight appreciated!

Hi,

hpdskflt.sys - HP Mobile Disk protection driver is blamed for all your BSODs.

However it is up to date. I have seen this exact driver blamed many times before. The solution that worked in each case - disabling it:

Quote:

Save this program to the desktop: http://live.sysinternals.com/autoruns.exe

Right-click on it -> Select run-as-admin.

Once loaded, go to the Driver Tab and untick the box beside hpdskflt

Then re-boot.

Hopefully that fixes it. Let us know how it goes.

Reventon

For the past few days Windows refuses to shutdown. Everytime I select the sleep, hibernate or shutdown options it will reboot/reawaken straight away. I have tested the RAM which had no problems, I reinstalled Windows completely which didn't help & I checked power settings in BIOS to disable auto-restart. Laptop works fine when on, just refuses to power down - only holding the power button will get it to stop doing anything! Very annoying, can anyone help? Cheers.

A:Laptop will not sleep, hibernate or shutdown

Hello cakefish,
I hope this isn't a virus or some malware. I would force a hard shut down and then after waiting 20-30 seconds then boot into safe mode with networking. Update and run your Anti-virus and Malwarebytes several times and with luck it will pick something up and clean it out of your system.

After re-reading: When you re-installed W7 did you do a clean install where you formatted your drive again?

Hi,

I have been having these frequent BSODs during return from sleep and shutdown on my laptop.
It happens when I have closed the lead and open it after say 30 minutes the screen will greet me with a BSOD (surprisingly if I open within few minutes it doesn't)

Today I clicked shutdown on my start menu, and left only to come back and notice a BSOD on my screen.

I have HCL 1044 Laptop
2gb ram, i3-2350M processor
7 U x86
Intel HD 4000 gpu

BSOD report attached.

(One offtopic question, if any of you have the time to answer, can my laptop support Windows 7 64bit?)

Thanks.

A:BSOD during Shutdown, return from sleep on my Laptop

The BSOD is caused by Conexant USB to Ethernet (LAN) Viking Modem, which is extremely old.

Code:
8266a000 82671680 glauiad T (no symbols)
Loaded symbol image file: glauiad.sys
Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\glauiad.sys

ImageSize: 00007680
Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4
I would suggest you to stop using that modem. It is most possible that the proper updates to th driver wont be found after 7 years.

Let us know if it is BSODing without that modem or not.

My 4 year old HP Spectre xt 15 4011nr has a 500gb Hitachi hard drive with a 30gb seperate ssd cache in it.

2 months ago I switched out the HD and put a Sandisk 480gb SSD in it. Then a week and half maybe in, the computer when I close the lid or click sleep/shutdown/hibernate, the computer will attempt to do it and the screen will turn off as normal but the computer is still running. It sometimes will not stop running unless I force shutdown with the power button. Sometimes it will shutdown regardless weather I clicked shutdown or sleep but that means I got a BSOD of driver power state failure and then it just turns off. The laptop runs fine other than that.

So I contacted microsoft chat support and they weren't too much help but they said my SSD could be the cause but I'm sure it's not. BUT I switched the sandisk SSD with a Samsung 850 evo but it had the same issue. I even went back to the HD temporarily because that never had the issue but it was still not turning off correctly.

I even refreshed my pc but keeping my personal files and that still didn't fix it.

I assume it is my hardware but how can I figure out what hardware it is that is causing it?

Ever since I did something with my drivers, things have been going haywire. Here's a list of a few things that I have had issues with: sometimes when i'm using a speech application like skype or discord, sounds on my desktop are picked up through my mic even though i'm using a headset, my computer's automatic maintenance starts up at the most random times and it never seems to end, and whenever I shutdown, hibernate, or put my computer to sleep, my screen powers off, but my fan, power button light, and mouse lighting are still on; the fan is running as well but it's at a slower and quieter speed. All my drivers are updated, and so is my BIOS. My guess is that the BIOS update may have caused things to go haywire in my computer. Can anyone please help me solve this issue? I have to resort to pressing the power button to make my computer turn off or go to sleep.

Hi there,

I wonder if you are able to help.

About a week ago my beloved Dell Laptop died so I have quickly had to buy a second hand replacement due to financial constraints.

The "new Laptop" is as follows:-

Acer Emachine E625
AMD Athlon TF-20 1.60 GHz
3.00 GB Ram
Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1
160 GB Harddrive

It has been bought with a fresh install of Windows 7 but on a nearly daily basis when turning the Laptop on it has asked for many updates. For example 2 days ago it asked for 208 Essential updates, yesterday 8 and today 33! Is this normal? I can understand when a fresh copy was loaded maybe updates were not done but they seem tobe more everyday!

The main problem I am having is is turning it off. I have found if I put the Laptop into Sleep or Hibernate when I wake the computer it has a blank screen and won't wake up. I have started to use Shutdown but most nights the computer turns itself on in the middle of the night and when I try to open the lid again iI have the same problem and it won't wake. So on every occasion I have to turn it off and so it restarts with the would I like to turn on in safe mode! I am sure this is not very good for the laptop.

I have not used Windows 7 before and really can't find a solution online.

Any help would be very much appreciated before I go mad or try and get my money back!

Kind Regards

Richard

Although I treat my laptop as a desktop and keep it running 24/7, this is kind of annoying.

I had recently performed a clean reinstall when I upgraded my laptop to a Samsung 850 Evo, and ever since then I've had problems with sleep. If I initiate sleep, hibernation, or shutdown then the screen goes black but the status LEDs stay on. punching all the buttons do NOTHING, with my only recourse being to press the power button until the lights go out. After which the system acts as if I woke from hibernation as normal. Restarts are unaffected, which is a good thing as having to force-restart my laptop every week will get old fast.

I believe I have installed all needed drivers, and Device Manager does not show anything missing. I honestly don't know what to do next.

A:After clean reinstall with new SSD, Laptop freezes on sleep/shutdown?

Hi, I had a similar problem with my lappy, it didn't start happening until lappy was about 18 months old. Thankfully it had a 2 year wnty, under wnty they replaced SSD. Maybe yours has a problem, I'm not sure of how you would go about testing this with a utility as it seems to be when the SSD shuts down. Perhaps try reinstalling your old SSD if you can, unless the OS is installed on it, my SSD was merely used as a cache. If that works go for SSD wnty.
I'm interested to know the outcome.
Good luck.

So, this isnt a big deal, just something petty. But, occaisonally (very), when its in sleep mode for 8-12 hours (I do that often, I like to return to what im doing after a while, because of this ill do a reboot every once in a while.), it might turn off, and ill have to turn it on and it will be at like 40-60% battery depending on how much i used the battery and i have to turn it on. Sometimes 60% to 80% batt, was wondering if this was a glitch or setting and how to fix. It isnt common, I just want to have it not do this.

Hi all,
Recently my laptop notified me of some computer updates, this yellow window popped up and gave me the option to start now or delay the update for 4hrs so I delayed because I was busy. A few hours later I used my laptop again and about 20mins into using it, the laptop restarts itself without notifying me, to install these updates. While these updates are being installed it recommends you don't shutdown the computer. But my boyfriend shut my laptop lid without knowing. Now when I attempt to use it, the log in menu appears, but once it logs in, it logs me back out and takes me back to the original log in page. Ive tried rebooting several times but it hasn't solved this problem. I don't know how to fix this, if anyone could help it would be much appreciated,

It sounds like you installed XP on one computer and then moved the hard drive to another computer. I guess that may work if the computers are the same brand and model. Otherwise there's not much chance that the drivers will be correct for the different computer.

Got a bit of a problem here with my family's laptop. Now I'm not sure how the problem came around here (as I don't use it and have been using my own computer in my own room) but my brother tells me the laptop aint working

I have no clue what he or my sister has done on the laptop at all but the laptop just keeps reaching the Acer splash screen and re-booting constantly. Whenever I try to hit any key on the board during the boot up I get a short beep and no response.

In the occasional circumstance it does boot, it appears with "Error Loading operating System" on a black screen with white text, supposedly not being able to boot Windows. I've managed to get into BIOS before hand but nothing has changed, it's still remains in factory default settings as neither member of my family has been into BIOS before-hand

My brother has only just now decided to tell me that he had been experiencing sudden shutdowns during excessive playtime (he told me he had it running for at least 9+ Hours) on Football Manager 2012 and that it was related to overheating. We've also had a audio problems in the past with it too as the audio drivers crash and stay on loop.

I have no clue what to do other than to send it off to Acer for repair (don't know if we are in warranty, we're paying for it weekly from Littlewoods UK). We don't have a installation disc on us at this moment as it came installed on the laptop to begin with.

You guys reckon something's fried inside it due to my b... Read more

tried recovery manager boot to earlier time - got error message about corrupt files

or other suggestions?

I don't think simply getting a recovery disk will solve this issue. 0xF4 error usually points at hard drive issues, so you may need to replace that hard drive.

Please check what is the make/model of the drive in question, download appropriate diagnostic tool from its manufacturer's site, and thoroughly test that drive. If you can't do that, other tools which you can use to do so include test disk. Regards

It seems that you have amd graphics card and the card driver is somehow corrupt. I would uninstall and re-install the graphics drivers . Use at your own risk if you want to try this.

We're currently running into an issue with an older Yoga ThinkPad model 20C0. Specifically when these devices were upgraded to Windows 10, they've encountered issues sporatically when users would shutdown or sleep the device. The system's screen will go black, but the LED power indicator on the palm rest "ThinkPad" sticker and atop the laptop itself. This behavior continues until the battery is fully drained. Here is what I've gathered so far. Early false positives led us to believe the Intel Management software was at issue, but a colleague eventually found that if Chrome and/or Firefox were running at the time sleep was initiated, the problem would be triggered. The behavior is inconsistent regardless of which driver is installed for Intel MEI or Intel HD Graphics. Currently using the following driver versions: Intel MEI: 11.0.0.1157(Lenovo's latest version is 9.5.15.1730) and Intel HD Graphics is Lenovo's current version 20.19.15.4416. Windows 10 1703 Enterprise OS Build # 15063.540. Anyone else encounter this issue? I know it is something plaguing Windows 10 users accross multiple hardware vendors and the only things that seem consistent is Windows 10 and Intel Gfx thus far. Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated! JH

You have drivers from as far back as 1996. I am truly surprised it was at all stable.

the DMP point to xchal.sys (also 2 years old) and I cant find what thed files owner was.

How To Find Drivers:

Quote:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: Drivers and Downloads

Everytime I go to shutdown, it takes about 5 mins then gives me the crash message "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE". I've searched for an answer and have found threads but no solutions....I just installed 7 two days ago, and installed my pretty standard peripherals and programs, but this is my first foray into 64-bit. Anytime I shutdown my computer or restart it, I get the BSOD. However, after getting the BSOD, and my computer automatically reboots, my computer works fine. I want to get rid of this problem.

Also, I attempted to run the System Health Report, but it said that

The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

BS Ho and welcome
A comman occurance in HP's these were all caused by your hpdskflt.sys file or hpdskflt.sys is a driver for the onboard mobile data protection sensor. In other words the accelerometer.

You can re-install and wait for it to happen or disable the accelerometer if not used. I am unsure of the warranty ramifications.

Upload the file to Mediafire (or another file-sharing site) and copy/paste the weblink in your next post.Use Speccy to provide details of your computer's configuration.

Download, install, and run. After Speccy has finished gathering information, click File > Publish Snapshot.Click Yes. A web address will be displayed. Click Copy to Clipboard and paste it in your next post. Include your computer's manufacturer and model number, if you haven't already. Please download MiniToolBox and run it.
Checkmark following boxes:

Hi!

I've a clevo m570MU laptop and I've intalled windows 8 x64, dual booting (with windows 7 x64 on the other internal disk partition).

Everything is fine with windows 8 but I cannot get it to hibernate. I've read that it could be the "ENE SD card drivers" and so I uninstalled it. Also, that it could be the drivers of the motherboard and I updated them.

I had no luck with these. I've also read that some Dell laptops are getting bios updates to solve same type of issues, but my laptop is old and so I don't believe it will happen. I've attached the info of my laptop.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve the issue? I've attached the minidumps!

Right I'm running Windows Vista and everytime i leave my computer and go eat lunch or something and come back the computer obviously goes to sleep in my absence. So when i wake it up it suddenly crash's. i know it crashes when i wake it up because of the time on the bottom right of the screen shows when it crashed.. which is always when i came back and woke the computer up.

its a dell laptop, an xps, m1530.

now i haven't changed the settings on my control panel recently, and something must have happened, because i can't use system restore to restore my computer to a time earlier than when this first started to happen.

Any idea's on why this is happening?

sorry correction. my current power settings is when i close the lid ''do nothing'' as in the computer just stays in its normal state. and when i come back after a while, there is obviously a screen saver, and upon moving my mouse, as the screen saver goes, i try and open a program, and it crash's.

I have read other posts about this issue, but I don't believe my problem is my system. Everytime I boot up the computer monitor goes into sleep mode. Won't let me in safe mode or anything else. I connected the monitor to a whole other system and it does the same thing. So this would mean it has to be the monitor correct? And if so, what causes this kind of thing and can it be fixed? I tried getting into the monitor menu and it just goes down into sleep mode.Thanking everyone in advance for any help offered.

A:Monitor Goes to Sleep Everytime PC Boots Up

If you have tried the monitor on a known working system, then you pretty much have your answer. The monitor has failed. With the price of new lcd monitors so cheap now, it does not make any sense to try and repair an old monitor. A new widescreen lcd is all of $99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254023

As for troubleshooting, I would check the pins on both the monitor and the cable. If you have another cable to swap in, then do so. Other than that, there is not really much else you can do. While it is possible to open a monitor and replace, a failed component, it is not really cost effective.
