I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

recently bought a T470s, very happy with it so far. Tried out USB Type-C charging from my powerbank and it doesn't react. Is it the cable, the power bank or is it possible to charge through powerbank at all?

Powerbank 10000 mAh, 3.6 V, 36 Wh
Input 5.0 V/2.0 A
Output 5.1 V/2.1 A

Cable - random 2$ Male USB 2.0 - Male Type-C adapter

PS. If it's not possible to charge via powerbank, why would you give it a type-C port at all... Nobody is ever gonna use it for type-C AC power adapter, cause the port is on the right hand side... *palmface*

A:T470s USB Type-C charging via powerbank?

USB-C supports many voltages and there is a protocol for the power supply and the device to negotiate the requirements.  You have a laptop that needs 20V and a power bank that only outputs 5 volts.  If you look at your charger that came with your laptop, it can output 5V for your phone or 20V for your laptop.  (also 9V and 15V)  You need a better or smarter powerbank

Dear Gents can anybody advise where to set charging cut off to 80% as it was possible to set at all thinkpads under battery settings under windows. Now I have Windows 10 and I can not just find such settings on my Carbon. It is obvious that charging to just 80% cut off extends battery life and if battery is charged fully then wear is more progressive. Based on my battery monitoring app wear now is around 20%. Any advice would be highly welcomed. Best regards, Andy

Hi. Just recently bought an Acer H277HU monitor for a one cable connection solution. Facing a problem though that the monitor does not charge the laptop when connected. Pictures displays fine though. When I connect my MacBook Pro it works fine. The monitor outputs 30W and understand the laptop would charge slower, but it doesn't charge at all. Any ideas on how this can be fixed? Driver update? Thanks.

A:X1 Carbon USB-C Charging

My understanding is that the laptop needs 20V.

The charger puts out 5V, 9V, 15V or 20V depending on the needs of the connected device.  There is a standard way that the voltage is negotiated.

For the turning on, have you tried unplugging and gently pushing a straightened paper clip or a needle into the emergency reset hole?  (on the bottom, on the right side, near the middle front-to-back)

In general a machine with multiple problems is too expensive to fix.

Same situation here, but my battery died completely and I could not turn laptop on at all. Called Lenovo tech support and their awesome rep (Joshua) instructed me to do a "static reset." Steps are:Unplug laptop;insert end of paper clip in small hole on bottom of laptop;hold for five seconds; let go; plug laptop back in;hit power/start button.Worked like a charm! Apparently, electricity builds up inside laptop with nowhere to go. Reset button on bottom releases it so battery can recharge as it should. Did you tried updating your battery drivers?

I got this laptop 2 days ago and I noticed charging produces a massive amount of heat. Most of the heat is concentrated to the top left corner of the laptop where the charing port is. I cannot even put a finger there as it is too hot. Is this normal for TB3 charging laptops?? I have an older laptop that used the barrel charger and it never got this hot. I also noticed once it gets above 80% charge the heat reduces. This issue happens both in linux and windows. except in windows for whatever reason the fan comes on at 4000 RPM when it is plugged in. BIOS is 1.31 and I have set everything to balanced power mode in BIOS.

Hi,

I have have been using my ThinkPad X1 Carbon 34xx for the last year and half. Lately, I noticed that when charging the battery, it sometimes stopped unexpectedly. I had then to let the battery discharge a while before resuming the fullcharge, then successfully.

However, last week, the battery again stopped charging and this time, disconnecting the power cable turned off my laptop immediately. I tried all the reset combinations I could find on internet to no avail. The system indicate the battery level at 42%, but beside this indication, the computer behave as if the battery was disconnected.

The most relevant indicator I noticed is that when plugging the cable (computer being then switched off), the battery led blinks green 3 times, orange 2 times and green again 1 time. But I could not find any explacation for this blinking secquence.

I would greatly appreciate your help!

I have a first generation x1 carbon that i purchased in the summer of 2013. i opted for the model with the 256 gb ssd. It's been a great laptop so far, but in the last couple of months it has started to charge incorrectly.  When plugged in to charge, it will charge for about 2 seconds, and then it will stop charging for about 2 seconds.  This cycle continues constantly.  Every now and then it will charge correctly, but very rarely.  Our computer tech looked at it, and pretty well ruled out anything wrong with the charging port, and doesn't think it's a hardware issue.  He mentioned a factory reset maybe fixing it, but that would be a last resort.  Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did you fix it?  Thank you

Normally, my X1 charging light indicator (LED that is next to the charging port) was solid orange when it's charging, and became solid green when the battery is full. However, recent days, I found out that my charging light indicator is gone, not any light showing. Except this, my X1 is still working fine. At first I thought about sending it to warranty site, but I rarely saw this charging light indicator flashed orange light once. So I think the physical LED is not broken (?) yet.Any suggestion ?Thx in advance.

I've just ordered an X1 Carbon with the 65W USB-C charger. Much of the time it will be docked at home on mains power, so I will rarely need the RapidCharge feature (but thought I'd better buy the 65W instead of 45W, just in case I needed it when travelling). I'm not a battery expert but there seems to be a lot of consensus that excess heat reduces the life of Li-ion batteries - produced either through fast charging or fast discharging. If my X1C is as good a workhorse as my X220 then I expect to keep it for some time so would like to maximise battery life. I almost always know when I want to charge quickly or not. For example, when I get home and plug in it has at least all night to charge so doesn't need to charge quickly. Does anyone know if there's a setting that tells the battery to charge more slowly (e.g. at the 45W rate, or lower)? I read (W540-charging) that airplane mode limits the charging consumption to 65W (for when using in-aircraft power) but am wondering whether that means software can reduce the rate still further. Of course I could always buy a 45W charger for home, but thought I'd ask the question first... Simon

My thinkpad x1 sometimes does not charge at all. It shuts down if I remove the power cable. Normally it does this every two or three charges, but now is stuck at 14% and it will not charge.  I have tried everything, reinstall, install drivers. Reseted from the back. Nothing! If I remove the power, it will shut down. After reinstalling the Power Manager it now shows: "The battery has failed to normal wear". That cannot be, because just a few hours ago it kept for four hours. The battery is quite four years old, with roughly 1800 cycles, but nevertheless it used to work just fine. ____ I cannot also access the support site for any drivers, it redirects me to my country  and of course it does not have anything for a population of 3 milion (maybe 100 Lenovos for the total population). Those supporters at Thinkpad must be very stupid to even think about using the location for redirection.

I just purchased an X1 Carbon (5th gen) and a USB 3.0 Ultra Dock for my daughter to use when she is away at school.  It looks like everything (keyboard, mouse, monitor, network, etc.) EXCEPT power is routed from the dock to the X1 Carbon through the USB 3.0 cable.  The one thing that doesn't seem to be being routed is power.  I assumed that there would be one cable to connect between the dock and the X1 Carbon but that doesn't seem to be the case.  It looks like I need to connect both the USB 3.0 cable and the power cord.  Is that correct?  Power is not routed to the X1 Carbon from the dock through the USB 3.0 cable? If I have to plug in two cable, a power cable and the USB 3.0 for everything else, can I simply run a cable from one of the UBB-C ports on the dock to the charging port on the X1 Carbon and at least draw power from the dock instead of the power supply that came with the laptop? I really wish I could just plug in one cable. Mart

My Thinkpad X1 Carbon (running Windows 7) has recently developed a problem. When I plug it in to charge it literally charges for one second, then stops charging, then charges again. Charging off and on, off and on... every second changing back and forth.  At the same time, the brightness will jump up and down every second. For example it goes from 2 to a 7, back and forth changing every second or two - nonstop.  This is only happens when it?s plugged in. Once I unplug it, the brightness remains constant. But my battery level hasn?t shown any increase so it doesn?t seem to be charging. Powering the system off and on didn?t solve. I?ve got it powered off right now and attempting to charge... didn?t work earlier but will try again. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? Thanks so much!

Hello! Recently I am unable to recharge my X1 with the included Lenovo 65W USB C Charger.  When I plug it in, the orange light blinks (1 second on, 1 off), and the windows battery status icon on the system tray flicks on and off between "plugged-in (charging)" and "not charging".  It seems that when I plug it in, windows is trying to mount something like a USB drive, as the icon to unmount a USB C device flicks on and off.  Furthermore, the task bar flickers as it goes on and off thinking that it is trying to mount and unmount a USB device. I've plugged in a few different USB C chargers I have "for my phone, for a battery pack, from a MacBook, etc...", and they work on my X1 no problem. I have 2 Lenovo 65W USB C chargers, and I've tried both of them with the same result.  I'm pretty sure the chargers are ok, as they will charge other devices (like my phone, a battary pack, and a MacBook).  Just, when I plug them into my X1, I get problems. Not sure if this is due to a recent Lenovo Vantage update, or Windows 10 Update.  I recently did the 2018-12 Windows 10 update.  However, even if I turn the computer off the Lenovo charger blinks the orange charge light, and will not charge the X1. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Have you ever set a battery charge threshold?

What happens if you let the battery discharge from the 47% in your screenshot, and then plug it in again?  Will it recharge to ~47%?  Or will it then be stuck at the new (lower) level?

When plugged in and the battery percent remaining is between those numbers the Windows power and sleep settings use the "on battery" setting. The laptop should use the "on ac power" setting in that situation because charging will begin soon after the battery drains down to 70.

Hi! As the title said i left the laptop charging a batterypack overnight and now i can't start it. Confirmed that the charger is working by multimeter.. Ive had it plugged in for a few hours no result which makes me suspect the battery,, but the charger should bypass the faulty battery no?  Im at a loss of what to do here, opened it and was tempted to remove the battery to see if the charger would bypass the battery since the battery warranty period is over but i didnt dare to since in my mind it makes any warranty void - feel free to correct me.  Any thoughts would be greatly appriciated.. a lot hangs on getting it running.  If you need any more info just let me know and ill supply it to the best of my ability.   EDIT: forgot to mention thst the laptop was plugged in during the night.
