Did my X301 ship without camera?

Q: Did my X301 ship without camera?

HelloAccording to the datasheet for ThinkPad X301 this model ships with an integrated camera. My X301 is "Type 4056-CTO S/NL3-ABD9D 09/03 ID:4057W9R" and I do not see any physical camera lens anywhere, not even close to the light (activates with Fn+PgUp) in the upper right corner of the screen. My T430s has a lens at this position and in the BIOS there is an option to enable/disable a camera. Please tell me whether some production batches of the X301 ship without camera. And if they all do should I expect an option to turn it on/off in the BIOS? I do not see anything in the BIOS that indicates the existence of a camera.Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an X301 2777CTR, purchased from the Lenovo Outlet. The computer was spec'ed as having no internal optical drive, and I assumed the cover over the bay where the optical drive or a second battery would go was just that--a cover with no other function except to keep dust out. Also, when I charged the battery, Power Manager reported only one battery present and charging. I ordered a second battery for the empty bay. When the battery arrived and I went to install it, surprise! A second battery was already there. Now, knowing that there really are two batteries in the computer, Power Manager shows "Battery 2:  there is an error."  I can't find any reference for this error message on these forums or in the Lenovo troubleshooting files. How do I get Power Manager to recognize the second battery and report its charge and health state?

A:X301 "Battery 2: there is an error"

It looks as though I have solved my own problem. I set Power Manager to do a battery reset of Battery 1. When it was done (draining and then recharging to 100%), Power Manager showed Battery 2 partially discharged, but in good condition. I am now running a reset on Battery 2. Assuming that results in the remaining battery being calibrated to the computer, I should be in good shape. Thanks for all those that read the message, in any event.

Hello, I have a Lenovo X301 and I love with all my heart. I've just recently upgraded my SSD and RAM. Read a lot of material about upgrading this model and found some rumors from 2009 that it should support SL9600 and SP9600 CPU's. I've consulted with Intel and they suggested I should contact Lenovo support to clarify whether there is a BIOS support for these CPU's because both SL9600 and SP9600 fit the socket (BGA956). So is there a BIOS that supports these CPU's for X301?I have read some korean forums and some people have successfully upgraded X301 to SP9600, yet it is unclear if they made any software/hardware modifications beforehand to make that possible. This is not a rational but sentimental decision, I know it is not worth the money. SU9600 is an official option, but it is such a minor upgrade I would not bother. Thank you in advance  Offtopic - after I installed Lenovo service bridge on my thinkpad, I am getting an internal server error every time I try to go to lenovo support page. Several people have reported this too, since Nov 30, 2016. Someone should look into that code

Hello, so I've just got 3rd party main and ultrabay batteries. The main one seems to work fine. The ultrabay battery was not detected at first, but after main battery got charges to 100%, the ultrabay one got detected as well. And just as it charged to 100% (after the 2nd battery detection the lenovo power manager displayed charging from 60% or so), lenovo power manager suddenly started displaying "60%, not charging". I check the details and it shows my ultrabay battery has 0% charge even though couple of seconds ago it was charged fully. Restart did not help and with AC unplugged, my laptop starts using the main battery, probably because it thinks ultrabay one is empty. Any ideas on how to fix this? :/

I seem to find little to nothing on the X301 and when I put in my serial number it gives me a 2777 as that closes match. Everything I find on recalibrating the battery is of no use because it isn't on the machine I have. There is no power manager that allows me to reset the battery. Is there any other way to do this?

Just given an old X301 (surprisingly, first time dealing with this model), and was told by the giver that they thought the mobo was bad due to overheating, and the kb and screen didn't work. Well, not sure how tech-savvy they were, so took that with a grain of salt. Turns out it does post, but the LCD lamp (not sure if LED or CCFL) won't light despite graphics being shown on screen (visible at extreme angles). Like they had said, keypresses aren't recognized. Now, these two issues unto themselves need not confirm a bad mobo. Still, considering a usb kb and external monitor work, is it more likely to be the components or mobo?Just wanted some input before sourcing parts or even popping it open (here's hoping for loose ribbon cables!). **bleep** solid feeling machine though. Would be nice to get this in order even without an upgradable CPU option. Type: 2774-W8Q

Hi there, I switched to an Intel X18-M SSD on my X301 some time ago. I noticed that the new BIOS was released with Secure Erase functionality some time ago. As I was going to rebuild my laptop today, I thought I would give it a go. Turns out that this was a mistake. The utility failed on the Intel SSD necessitating a reboot after running for six hours. After the reboot, it turns out that the utility has set a hard drive password on the disk (there was not one before). As I have no way to know what password it has set, I am effectively locked out of my drive and it's a brick to all intents and purposes.Does anyone (Lenovo in particular) know what password is set during the running of the Secure Erase functionality of the latest BIOS? My only alternative is to find out if there is a default master password from Intel. Since in principle, this should be blank, I believe that I am scuppered unless someone in Lenovo can tell me what password they set using the utility. Thanks in advance.

I went out and bought a 128gb 1.8" SSD for the purpose of upgrading my x301 to Win 7. I really wanted to preserve my old XP environment on the stock 64gb.

I did a fresh Win 7 Ultimate install, initially I installed the 64bit version but found my VPN software would not support it so then I wiped and installed 32 bit. I did leave the 100mb partition that the 64bit version created.

Installed Win 7 32bit, installed the lenovo software update program and let it put all of the software on the laptop. Did the win 7 update thing (this all took the better part of a day).

I wresteled the TPM chip and now have it owned by win 7. Had to do the "hit esc" till the red win7 loader, power off, enter bios, clear keys method, but it worked. Now Win 7 says it ownes the tpm.

Trying to turn on Bitlocker doing the "key test" results in the screen on every reboot saying that something has changed. I then turned on bitlocker, let it encrypt drive without doing the test and it completed sucessfully but every reboot asks for the recovery key.

I've tried just about every "fix" I can find for this, including, changing bios boot order to only include hdd, suspending/resuming BL and a host of other things as well, bios updated. Nothing seems to work. I'd really like to use bit locker but not if it is not going to work right.

I did come across a post that involved some policy editing then turning of/on again and have not yet tried that.

Just wonderin... Read more

A:Lenovo X301 Bitlocker asking for recover key every time..

I believe I found the problem enabling bitlocker on my x301. I tried just about every possible thing I could find on the internet and was unable to get it enabled. Every time on the next boot I would get the message (pre windows), from the bios that the environment had been changed and bitlocker would fail to encrypt the drive. If I encrypted the drive without the bitlocker test it would encrypt but every boot would make me enter the recovery key in order to boot.

Last night I found a post that indicated that bitlocker would make a 300 meg partition (100 for itself, 200 for oem utilities). That got me thinking. Today I decided to shrink my system partition and leave some unpartitioned space on the drive in case it was trying to make this partition. That's when things changed. Suddenly bitlocker started working properly. I still only see the 100 meg windows partition, but maybe there is another hidden partition that it was unable to create because I had given all the space to my system drive. I left 500 megs unpartitioned, enabled bitlocker and it's working fine. For me, problem solved.

Hope this helps someone. One nice thing about Win7 is that it allows you to shrink/expand volumns right from disk management so no playing around with PE boot disks.

Hi all, I need to know what is the best way to store/ship cpu's from my old system. Basically, I fried my old motherboard with a Socket 478 P4 processor and decided to switch to AMD since gamers rave about them. I love it so far.

Now I want to sell my old processor and the HS&F as it's a 2.2Ghz and I can recoop some money for it. How should I store the cpu once I pull it out? I have an electrostatic sleeve, but what should I use for a hard case? Should I just leave it in the MB and ship the whole thing?

FYI, I don't have the packaging for the AMD as I ordered it online and had them install the processor as I'm not confident enough to install that without screwing up a pin or two.

I have been looking around at AMD CPU's,,Strickly on the Cost to performance ratio. I want my PC to be able to drag a house down the street (LOL), and in a P4,, it takes ALOT of Money ya know? I'm looking to spend $300 USD or so.
Simply put what "core" is best? outside of the 64bit AMD's
Barton,Thorton,Thoroughbred or Applebred??

I have chosen the MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR Motherboard.
And i am sticking with ThermalTake for the Cooler
Any help from the AMD gurus is really appreciated.

Thank you.

A:Jumping Ship, P4 To AMD

Get a Barton. It has more cache then the other cores & has a faster FSB out-of-the-box. If you're the overclocking type, then that's another story.

Applebred is the new Duron so you might want to keep away from that one.

Thoroughbred & Thorton are equal when it comes to performance but the Thorton runs a bit cooler since it has a bigger die ( same size as the Barton ) thus more surface contact with the heatsink to transfer heat.

Things might be a bit different when you take bang-per-buck as a consideration & I'm not aware of the current prices so I can't really help you there.

Hello, i would like to know if anyone here knows how much a system is impacted by ram speed.

Will you get significant boost from switching 1333 to 1600 or 3000 ?

Plus higher frequencies means higher delay too.

I currently use 1600 mhz ram because it was as cheap as 1333 at time i bought it, but i don't think i could tell the difference from a 1333 kit

A:Corsair ship out new 3Ghz ram, WHY ?

Magissia, Welcome to SF.
Can you ship me some of that 3000 ram......love to see how much voltage I'd have to throw at that, lol. You ask a good question regarding the noticeable speed differences between 1333, 1600 and higher. I would say for normal web surfing tasks and such it would be hard to notice a big speed difference between 1333 and 1600 but it's there and when you compare 1600 to 1866 it's small but there and measurable. Now measurable and perceptible are two different beasts. With the pricing being so aggressive with DDR3 I say get the higher mhz. ram and tighten the timing settings and just leave it alone and it'll do it's job. Oh and my offer stands I'll take any of that DDR3 2800 you can ship me and I'll test it out for ya !

Hi all, first post here. I thought I was pretty good about keeping my computer clean and running smoothly (AVG, ZA, CCleaner, defrag, removing unused programs, trimming my startup list from time to time, etc...). Over the past month or so, occasionally when I resume from hibernation I get a RPC termination window and have 50 seconds or something to shut down. This was tolerable as it was intermittent, and only seemed to happen when i hibernated with a large number of programs running. First off, brief introduction: I'm a Computer Engineering student currently taking time off of school, working on a boat, started working with the boat's electrical systems because hey, I understand DC power!

Now the issue: I wired in a PA system to our VHF radio unit. It works great, except the system was designed to be 2-way. When you hook the system up to a bullhorn, it works as a microphone and can transmit back to the VHF unit.

We had a bullhorn, but it got corroded and we replaced it. Now we have waterproof speakers that are fine except they pick up FM radio and send that back to the VHF unit.

You don't hear the FM radio over the speakers, just back at the VHF unit, and transmission from the VHF to the speakers seems to be fine. This isn't a problem, per se, but it's annoying to hear.

The problem is with the speakers, and I tried putting a ferrite ring on, to no avail, although a different one with a different stopband could work. What I'm unsure about, is technically the system is working the way it should, we just hooked up something other than what the system is designed for!

I do know what frequency radio it's picking up (100.3 MHz) but I don't know what frequency it outputs when the PA is in use. Keep in mind I only have access to a multimeter onboard.

Any suggestions?

A:FM interference on ship's PA system

you need a LOW-PASS filter between the connection to the VHF. This will allow A/F but kill R/F (which is being 'detected' and converted to the A/F content

A low pass filter is an inductor in series with the signal and a capacitor in parallel to ground

this should be a shielded pair (eg coax)
--------- inductor ---+---
signal source = connection to VHF
----------------------+ ---
The capacitor is ~ 0.001 mmf and the inductor doesn't matter too much

Considering all the problems I've had waiting for XP x64 & finally Vista x64 Drivers to be released to take advantage of my dual core 64 bit hardware after XP x64 became orphaned by the hardware manufacturers it's occurred to me to ask; when will PC manufacturers finally ship new systems with Vista x64 or any 64 bit OS for that matter?

I've been looking at the specs for many of the High Power Gaming Laptops and not only are they still shipping with Vista x32 with no option to select Vista x64; their standard configuration is to ship with only 2GB of RAM. Why would this be? First of all Vista x32 only sees a maximum of 3.13GB to maintain "Driver Compatibility." This begs the question why would they need to hide an entire GB of RAM to do this? I'm guessing because Microsoft knows the PC manufacturers are mapping devices in that upper GB of RAM, causing all kinds of device incompatibilities even in a true 64 bit OS.

My particular problem is that my Media Reader causes BSODs with the upper 2GB of RAM installed. Forget about using ReadyBoost! Not only do I have this problem; but my system takes twice as long to boot and application windows take more time to load. If the additional symptoms were limited to just extra time to boot, I could explain them away, by telling myself that POST is taking longer, because of the extra memory it needs to test. If only this were the case! It appears that not only MS but the PC manufacturers know there are compatibility ... Read more

I just bought a brand new computerentium XP 2600, 213GHZ, 480MB RAM all new video and game capable we bought it specifically for games. I bought Cruise ship tycoon and cannot get it to play. It loads but will not play. In another post I read to end some of the processes in the task manager (there are 34 running) but when I do that I get a warning message from windows and I don;t know what the processes are or if I should take a chance and end them . I would think if the game box says its windows XP compatable it should work I more than meet the minimum requiremants should I contact the manufacturer of the game??

OK....well first off, I think you're a bit confused on your system specs...

I think you mean an Athon XP 2600+ running at 2.13GHz.

Make sure you get the latest drivers for your video card. If you don't know what to get, then hit Start->Run, type 'dxdiag' (without quotes), and hit OK. When it's done, hit the 'Save information' button, save it somewhere, and then post it all here.

I have been having problems with my Flex 3 like slow response, disk always showing 100% in task manager, irregular charging, etc. So I ran a Lenovo solution center scan and it showed that my hard disk has failed a targeted read test. When I contacted support, I found out that the laptop cannot be serviced in my country (India) but the hard disk needed to be replaced. I still have 2 months of warranty so the replacement should be free. However, should I skip this hassle of shipping my laptop internationally and just buy a hard disk and replace it on my own? I'm not a tech expert by any means so its possible that I might make the problem worse. I was thinking of folowing online guides or just give it to a person who knows what he's doing. I know servicing it through a service center is recommended but it does not make sense financially since it will cost me a lot of time and money to ship it. I'm looking for advice or suggestions on what to do

When I first powered on my new T580, I wanted to prevent boot and enter the boot menu. However, I am pretty certain that the Lenovo logo and the 'To interrupt normal startup, press Enter' message did not appear that first time powering on the machine. Windows's *Cortana* started blathering at me pretty much immediately which disappointed me immensely. I had to hold the power button down until the machine powered off, after which the normal startup happened and I was able to back up the machine. However, due to the above, my backup isn't pristine. Are they shipped hybernated, or was I just not quick enough ?

Hey guys,So it's christmas and my new computer which was out of the box just a few hours ago, wouldn't turn on when connected to battery power only, so I decided to plug the AC adapter and it runs fine! Battery is fully charged and the computer still won't run on battery power only... I think it might be stuck on ship mode which according to lenovo disables battery as a power supply before it is even sold to the final customer so the integrity of the battery is maintained.Basically computer doesn't run on battery.Any hints on how to fix this? It's frustrating to buy a new pc which doesn't work as a proper laptop! I didn't pay to fix issues...PS:Computer battery is NOT REMOVABLE.Thanks for your attention.

Blu-Ray drives can benefit many by offering:

1.Ability for users to watch Blu-Ray movies from their own computer.

2.Burn HD video and sound data to disc.

3.Have a much larger capacity than CDs and DVDs combined.

4.Enabling computer programmers the ability to experiment with Blu-Ray file systems, sectors, and data structing, as well as write Volume Boot Record bootstrapping kernels and software, and/or boot from the device when none others are available or capable.

Why is Blu-Ray so big in movie distribution media, but so small in modern day computing use and practices?

Vote and push for manufacturers like Dell to install OEM-supported Blu-Ray drives, driver software, and this will both benefit them and us in the long run.

A:Why don't more computer systems ship with Blu-Ray drives?

Blu-Ray drives are noticably more expensive than regular optical drives - which is one reason why they don't come as standard equipment in most computers.

Let my tale be a warning to you all.I ordered a CTO Thinkpad Yoga 370 build in early July, and after 3 order delays and a latest status from order management that stated a vague ?weeks and weeks of delay, probably will ship at the end of August? repsonse from customer service, I gave up. I?ll literally buy anything else now. Some facts and observations:- Customer service in North Carolina is pleasant enough, but has zero control over the factory.- Unlike other manufacturers, Lenovo is less than transparent about the actual status of your order. It?s either been received, planned to ship or shipped, when we all know there?s 10?s of incremental status steps in between. We?re in the dark folks.- The order tracking information they have doesn?t match Hong Kong, and is days behind, only the factory can change it.- My order changed ship dates 3x before I lost my patience, then Lenovo started outright guessing at when the order would ship and just making stuff up about why the order might be delayed. All very pleasant, all very apologetic.- They still refuse to release the hold on my credit card so I can just go buy something else.- North Carolina customer service can?t cancel an order when it delays too long for a customer to wait, they can only request it.- The lead times on the website for CTO builds are pure guesses and have nothing to do with reality. The machine I ordered changed from 3 - 11 days to 30 days, to 3 weeks by looking at the webpage over the course... Read more

A:Firefox 3.6 beta set to ship next week.

"Fans of the browser will have to wait until Firefox 4.0 to ship, which isn’t expected to happen until October 2010 at the earliest, to see big Google Chrome-like changes to the surfing tool."

I have used Firefox for quite some time now. This should be a great update, unfortunately it's year away!

Advanced Micro Devices on Tuesday said its first six-core processor for desktops will ship in the second quarter of this year.

The processor will be called Phenom II X6, an AMD spokesman said. The company displayed a working unit of the chip in a desktop at the Cebit trade show being held in Hanover, Germany.

The company declined to comment on specific details about the chip, including the speed and cache size. However, the company has said it would go into desktops targeted at enthusiasts like gamers. AMD already offers six-core Opteron chips for servers.

I can't be the only one on earth that is having this problem. I have tried everything. Adding the site as a trusted site, allowing pop-ups from that site. In IE6, you could always print labels from click-n-ship on usps.com. You would accept the license aggreement and a pop up window with the label would show up and you would accept it. This is a secure site so you would think this would work ok. I get the same problem when I try to print from paypal.com. There has to be some stupid security setting I am missing...
