Solved: Photoshop - saving extracted foreground image

Q: Solved: Photoshop - saving extracted foreground image

Hi all,

I'm new to Photoshop. I'm trying to save an image without the white square background. I was able to create a layer by going to Image > Extract and tracing around the object. I haven't figured out how to save the extracted object. When I save the image, it looks the same as the original (white background included). I've tried saving in different formats (JPG, GIF, PNG, etc.). How can I save the foreground image only? I've spent way too much time today looking for this, and it's probably very simple (and will make me feel like a schmuck I'm sure).

Preferred Solution: Solved: Photoshop - saving extracted foreground image

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am trying to save images online from IE. The images are in GIF or JPG or whatever. Well when I click to save it it only gives me the option of .BMP, even when I check the drop menu its the only thing there. I have never heard of this and neither has anyone else I talk to. I have tried reseting the options of IE back to default and it still does it. I am running Win 2K if that matters. Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on and how I can change it back so that I can save the JPGs as JPGs?

I am trying to save images (aka jpg/jpeg) to my disk from the net. In most cases the images are noted as jpg and jpeg in the bars/address. However, when I go to save/save as, it "selects" bmp instead. The arrow and scroll do not have jpg as a selectable option for file type. In short, jpg files on the net are being "forced" to be saved as bmp instead. Can this be changed? (on a more permanent rather than temporary basis)

Try deleting (well cut + paste to desktop or something it so you can restore if need be)the downloads.rdf file in your profile folder:

Firefox should recreate the file and you should be able to save images.

Care to clarify what the name of the prog really is? There is no 'Adobe Photoshop 1.0 Business Edition'. Do you mean Photodeluxe?

Info is scarce about Photodeluxe as it was discontinued by Adobe 4 years ago. Other versions preference files are located in the Program Files/PhotoDeluxe 'Prefs folder'. Deleting the .psp file there will reset your preferences. Failing that, an uninstall/reinstall is your next best bet.

I am new to CS2 and have run into a problem saving files that are larger than 2GB. After Photoshop is almost finished saving my file, it alerts me that it cannot save it due to the fact that the file is larger than 2GB. How can I get the file to save? I am trying to save the graphic as a PSD file. I've also tried to save it as a layered TIFF, but after I oopen the TIFF back up it is flattened.

I am working on a museum exhibit and am designing a background graphic for a wall that is 90" x 140" at 100dpi (I am working at full scale). I am certain the file will be larger than 5GB when I've constructed the whole thing. Any thoughts? Is this some setting I can change in Preferences?

Thanks in advance.

Hello, this is my first post!

So, I saved a photograph I'm editing in photoshop cs1 as an 8 bit TIFF. All the photo's layers had been merged. I tried to view it in Preview and the image showed the model in it all a white blob (i had previously done editing with layers on her). This made no sense to me as all of my layers had been flattened. I then tried to view the photo by emailing it to myself. The model was fine, but the image was really bright. I went back into Photoshop and noticed my Proof Setup (under View) was set to Working CMYK. I switched it to Machintosh RGB which got brighter, then Windows RGB which returned to the same brightness but with false color, then Monitor RGB (?) which got REALLY bright. So, my questions are.. Why does my emailed picture look so bright, and is this what the image actually will look like (as to say, on a data disk)? How should I view images in Photoshop in regard to Proof Setup and for what reasons? Why is the image in Preview display what I previously had saved at one point?

Thanks world. Any tips or advice for me would be more than welcomed and appreciated.

A:issues saving tiffs on mac (osx) in photoshop cs1

I can’t help with a mac … But why a TIFF ????
The usual procedure would be to save the Photoshop working file it’s psd format so it can be edited at any time without loosing the original and the working layers.
Then save the picture in another format (like a jpg) when needed and in a proper format for the intended purpose.

Photoshop is too slow loading and complicated to use for general purpose viewing and editing …
So, I use something else for my basic viewing/editing (Irfanview) and only use Photoshop (in a PC) when I need more editing power.

I’m wondering how it would look saved in a jpg format ... And welcome to the TSG Forum.

office 2007 and photoshop CS3 and the demo version of CS4 hangs when saving documents. also a really obcure program SFX pro 6 from stage research will do the same when I try to save or even close the application.

when I try to save the document they will crash "not responding" when I try to close it I get the usual window asking what I want to do. when I click on close program it wont close just stays in the "not responding" status I can continue with other programs and even open a new window in Office. task manager wont end the process when I try it does not give me an error but the progam does not close. I cant log off or shut the computer down it just seems to ignore it. the only way is to pull the plug or equivelent. in the case of photoshop and word 2007 it is hit and miss but in SFX pro its every time I save. the good part is when I reboot I find that it did actually save it so I dont loose my work.

any idea what could be the culprit? has anyone else experienced this.

I'm at a bit of a loss for how to properly describe this, but I'm hoping an XP guru will be able to sort out my desktop woes.

Essentially, my desktop (icons and background) is hidden if I bring any window into the foreground. Almost as if my desktop wasn't really a desktop, but a window that self-minimizes as soon as it's not the active window.

When this happens, the start menu bar remains.
If I right click on the bar, and choose "show desktop", my desktop will be restored, that is, until I open a window, or restore a minimized application.

The screen will just be blue, and will not respond to right clicking.
If I close a window, the start bar will also vanish, but I can get it back temporarily by pressing the windows key.

It's almost like I have an "always on top" application of solid blue forcing it's way on top of everything all the time.

Now, when this happens:
The explorer.exe task is still alive.
I have checked "show desktop icons".

Any ideas?

Let me take a stab at this. I do not have Photo Shop so I will try to guide you in the right directions.

Look for a preference, or options in Photo Shop. See if somewhere there is a place to set it the way you want it.

If not what I would do is uninstall it, reboot, delete the program folder, reboot and reinstall it. It sounds like you might have a corrupt file if there are no settings where you can change it.

is it just certain tools that you can't see? eg pen tool or paintbrush? Your paintbrush size might just be so small (eg 1 pixel) and your image so large that you just can't see it, unless you're zoomed in of course. Try upping the size of the tool if so.
