I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have Mozilla Thunderbird as my default email client. Also, my Explorer right-click menu lists Thunderbird as an option.

I'd like to have no default email client. Also, I'd like to get rid of the Thunderbird right-click Explorer menu choice.

Are there ways to accomplish this?

Thanks.

A:Want to: i. delete default email client; ii. remove right-click menu item

The following may help you remove Thunderbird from the right click context menu: Edit Context Menu Items In Windows 7 & Vista. If you can't do it through the registry, then try one of the free tool options. Before touching the registry, create a system restore point and backup the registry to be on the safe side - post back if you need help with those procedures.

While it is easy to change the default e-mail client, I don't know how to prevent the system from having something setup as the default, Why do you want no default e-mail client? If you do that (assuming it is even possible), then you will be unable to click on e-mail links to send messages. What problem is having a default e-mail client causing that you are trying to avoid? Perhaps there's some other solution.

I hope this at least partially helps.

Good luck!

Hey it's been a while since I've last been here, I really enjoy this Win 7 community hope everyone is doing well.

Anyway let me cut to the chase, basically I want to be able to remove the MagicISO context menu from the right click context menu in Windows 7.

See pics to understand what I'm talking about.

Even after unchecking the "Enable Shell Integration" (see picture 3) option in MagicISO Maker, it still shows up, and when I open the program again the check box is still ticked for that particular option.

I know I never had any issue in Vista or XP, but in this version of Windows it seems unable to work.

I looked on the http://www.magiciso.com website for an update to the program but there doesn't seem to be any at the moment. I've got the latest Build 0281.

Call me a "control/neat/OCD freak" who wants and needs everything in his life to be almost perfect ! LOL but really, I just like my right click context menu to be nice and tidy. I don't use MagicISO that often and when I do I do all my work within the program. Therefore I don't need the MagicISO option to be present.

Anyway I hope my issue is clear, perhaps I would have to modify the registry or something ?

Thanks for all your help I appreciate it !

Jordan

I asked this question to the PCMover team, but I haven?t got any competent answer or solution. However, the question is related to how the Windows registry works. This is what happened:

1. I had performed an In-Place upgrade from XP to Win8, so I got the Windows.old folder.
2. I had transferred many of the XP applications onto the Win8 machine, using PCMover.
3. Recently, I launched PCMover again to transfer more applications. It went past the ?[Transfer] Setup? screen/stage, where is asked me about the location of Windows.old. Then it got to the ?Analyze PCs? screen/stage. That means PCMover accepted that
location of Windows.old.
4. During the analysis stage, PCMover stopped responding (crashed).
5. I re-launched PCMover, but this time, on the ?[Transfer] Setup? screen/stage, it gave me this error:
-----------
ERROR: "The registry is already loaded for this image. Remove the virtual machine or use another image prefix."
-----------

It is obvious that PCMover tries to build a virtual machine image, but it cannot, because there is another one with the same name/prefix. Who had created that?? Obviously, PCMover itself in its previous session that went wrong. No other application was
run between the 2 attempts! PCMover seems unable to cancel the previous image and create it again fresh.

Although my problem is specific, my question goes beyond PCMover itself:

Where can I find a virtual machine "image"... Read more

A:How to find in and how to remove a virtual machine from the registry?

First I'd try rebooting the PC, then if that doesn't make a difference, it'd be better to ask the makers of PCMover.

In TH2 it was possible to remove that button with a reg entry which stopped working in RS1 but it's possible to do by modifying a file and below is how it can be done and can also remove "Show Windows Ink Workspace" and "Show touch keyboard button". Make sure to take a system image or create a restore point before proceeding

Copy explorer.exe.mui from C:\Windows\en-US
Open with ResHacker and expand the Menu tree. In item # 205 remove
MENUITEM "Show Task &View button", 430, MFT_STRING, MFS_ENABLED
MENUITEM "Show Windows Ink &Workspace button", 437, MFT_STRING, MFS_ENABLED
MENUITEM "Show touch ke&yboard button", 436, MFT_STRING, MFS_ENABLED
Then recompile the file
Move to item # 206 and remove
MENUITEM "Show Windows Ink &Workspace button", 437, MFT_STRING, MFS_ENABLED
MENUITEM "Show &touch keyboard button", 436, MFT_STRING, MFS_ENABLED
and recompile again then save the file somewhere safe
Go back to C:\Windows\en-US\explorer.exe.mui take ownership of explorer.exe.mui and rename it to explorer.exe.mui.old paste the modded file and restart the computer. So far no adverse effects at all

A:Start menu not letting me right click or remove programs?

This is normally due to a setting in the Start Menu that's called "Enable context menus and dragging and dropping". Here's what to do:
Right-click a neutral place on the Start Menu (or just right-click the Start Menu orb) and choose "Properties"
Click the button labeled "Customize..."
Scroll down just a little bit to find "Enable context menus and dragging and dropping"
Click this setting to enable it
Click OK
Click OK
After this, you should be able to right-click. If this option was already enabled, then we'll go from there and try to figure it out.

Hello everybody.

Here something that's been on my mind. Some time ago, I downloaded a zipfile from a website.

After the download was completed, I ran a virusscan, and the virusscan told me that the zipfile

was infected with a trojan. I decided to remove that zipfile from my computer, so I went to the

folder where I had downloaded the zipfile and I right-clicked the zipfile and chose the remove/delete

option.

Now here is my question: By doing what I did, have I really removed/deleted the infected file from

my harddrive permanently, or have I just removed/deleted the "reference" to the infected file.

I've been told that Windows does not really delete a file that you have, "right-clicked and chosen the

remove/delete option", it only removes the reference to that file. So now I'm wondering weather my

computer may still contain the infected file, only now I cannot see the infected file or find it.

I should add, the reason I removed the file manually like I did and did not use the "remove" feature of

my a-virusprogram, was that I had not opened or executed the infected file in any way so my computer was

not really infected, it only had an infected file residing in the harddrive, so it seemed easiest to do it the

way I did. Also sometimes a-virusprogram can detect a trojan/virus but it cannot delete or quarantine it,

so if you are in a situation like mine, where you have not yet executed the infected file, j... Read more

A:Right-click An Infected File And Choose Delete/remove?

You are correct. By deleting the file you have only removed the reference to the file, the data is still on your drive. However, there is no way for this data to now infect your system so I wouldn't worry about it. Eventually this area of the drive will be overwritten with something else.

Hi! I've got my pc up and running, but I am trying to delete the 1 partition that takes up 100% of the space on my hard drive in order to make 2. I see that you are supposed to right-click the partition and select "delete partition" in order to beging this process, but when I try, I can see the "delete partition" option, but can't select it because it is faded out, so to speak-- not dark like the other options that I can select. How can I click on it? Thanks for your help!

A:Can't click on "delete partition" in menu!

Since your Operating System sits on that one partition that you have, consider yourself lucky that it won't let you delete it; deleting the system partition of your currently running Operating System is a recipe for a spectacular crash!

If you want to repartition your harddisk, then you will have to boot from an installation CD, delete the existing partition, and create new ones with the sizes set as you want them.

Otherwise, there are resizing tools available that will let you shrink existing partitions non-destructively - but I have never used any of these, and I have no idea how well they would work.

Hi Jason6161 Two of these words are closely related, while the other one isn't.Remote Desktop is often a reference to the "RDP" acronym, which means "Remote Desktop Protocol", a protocol used by Microsoft Windows systems to remotely connect to another Windows system (or even other OS now). If there's something you don't understand in it, let me know and I'll explain it to you.Connect to another computer using Remote Desktop ConnectionA Virtual Machine is like the state name, a machine that doesn't exist physically, it only exists virtually inside a system. It's the emulation of a system inside another system. So you could for example have Windows 8.1 installed on your computer, but using a program, create a virtual machine running Windows XP in it. To put it simply, it's running an independant system (guest) inside a system (host). For more information, you can consult the Wikipedia article below.Virtual machineVirtualBox is a program developped and maintenant by Oracle that allows you to create virtual machines. It's what we call an "hypervisor". A program that allows you to create and manage virtual machines. For more information, you can consult their website and their Wikipedia article.VirtualBoxVirtualBox WikiSo to sum it up, you can use VirtualBox to create a virtual machine (or multiple VMs), and you use the "Remote Desktop" to connect remotely to another computer and access it. ... I've got a few machines on Virtual PC, copies of one base installed template, all running XP Pro.

I moved one of these virtual machines to another box, and now that virtual machine cannot talk to any other virtual machine on the original box, or the original host itself.

Any ideas why this is?

I have a bizarre problem that I can't seem to solve. I looked all over the internet for solutions, but can't find any.

My problem is that when I right-click on Mp3 files, the pop-up menu shows "Edit Song Information" as the default command for Mp3 files. The default command should be "Play In Winamp".

I've looked for a command in Winamp to change the default command back with no success. I've checked the Mp3 info in Folder Options > View File Types and the "Play In Winamp" command IS set as the default.

One of my other programs must be causing the problem. I have the following audio programs or codecs installed.

Winamp 5.52
Windows Media Player 10
VLC Media Player
iTunes (I don't really use it except for m4b files)
Roxio Easy Media Creator 9
RealPlayer 10.5
K-Lite Codec Pack 3.7.0
G-Spot 2.21
Quicktime Player 7.4

Does anyone know how to get "Edit Song Information" removed as the default command for my Mp3s and what program might be causing it?

Hello,

I'm in the process of clearing up my right click menus after installing Windows 10. I found guides for all menu items I wanted to get rid of here on TenForums (Yay!), but I can't find a guide on how to remove the "Cast to Device" item.
Is there a way to remove it (for folders and files)?

A:Remove "Cast to Device" from Right Click Menu

Hello!

Same problem here. Seemingly no solution yet to this on the entire internet ...

... until now:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Blocked]
"{7AD84985-87B4-4a16-BE58-8B72A5B390F7}"="Play To menu"
Spent quite some hours engineering this, so I hope some people find it useful!

In Virtualbox's main screen, select your XP machine (do not start it). Click settings. On the left side, click System. On the Motherboard tab, set Base Memory to 1024. On the Acceleration tab, be sure that both boxes are checked. You may need to enter your computer's BIOS and enable its virtualization features. On the left side, click Display. On the Video tab, be sure that Enable 3D acceleration and Enable 2d video acceleration are checked. Click OK to save the changes.Start the XP virtual machine and let it finish booting. Above XP you'll see a menu bar. Click Devices > Install Guest Additions and follow the prompts. You will not be able to install your ATI drivers. Virtualbox is emulating its own set of hardware for Windows XP to use. My instructions will tell Virtualbox to give XP enough resources to run your game.As for the game itself, if it is on a CD, click Devices > CD/DVD Devices and make sure that your CD drive is selected.

Hello,

My wallpaper has been changed to some eerie yellow color, and it takes multiple left clicks to click on anything. Right click does not work at all. Also, there were no start menu icons or quick launch icons, until I ran unhide... I'm not sure if I was supposed to do that yet though, since from the looks of the forums we're supposed to do that after removal of the virus. I ran Malwarebytes and it removed 2 things after a full scan, but nothing has changed. Help would be greatly appreciated... thanks!

Hello, Would someone please be able to help me. I recently got my computer back after being repaired and it was on a small resoultion under the 1000's. I bought a new screen to go with it and just turned it on. I went to display settings and changed resoultion to 1920x1080 and now its just a big blank stretched wallpaper with no icons, task menu/bar or start menu. I also can't click or right click thus I have no way to change this back. I've tried going into normal safe mode and display settings changed it to the smallest, restarted the computer and its doing the exact same thing. I know no fixes and would really appreciate all the help I can get.

A:Changed Resoultion, Icons, Taskbar, Start menu All gone. Can't Click or right click

Follow the below steps:
Press CTRL+Alt+delete together and hit enter
Click on File and New Task (Run)
Type "Control" without any quotes. This will open control panel Window, from where you can easily get to display settings options and change your PC resolution back to it's initial state.

Good Luck.
Regards,
Oliver

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

System specifications would help, especially what type of mouse you've got, but at a guess I'd say there's something not right with your mouse settings.
