Win 10 upgrade dilemma

Q: Win 10 upgrade dilemma

Hi,

I originally used the sysprep method (from eightforums) to move my user profile to a different drive (E: drive) in win 8.1. My dilemma is do I move my user profile back to the C: drive (win drive) before upgrading to win 10 ? or just upgrade as it would seem this is possible if I have understood correctly.
Can any one tell me the pros and cons of both methods to help me to decide what to do please?
Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Win 10 upgrade dilemma

I can't think of any benefits in relocating it back unless you wanted to do it anyway irrespective of the upgrade. If you want your user folders to remain on the E drive, to move them back, upgrade, then relocate them back again is a lot of effort for no gain (and there is always the risk of making a typo and having to repeat steps).

If you look at this thread Users Folder - Move Location in Windows 10 - Page 8 - Windows 10 Forums there are plenty of people that upgraded without relocating back first. (There are a lot of comments to trawl through but no-one had a problem, including me).

Similarly once on 10 you don't need to relocate back before doing an in-place upgrade or upgrading the release build.

You would have to relocate ProgramData directory back if you had moved it though - but that was only possible on Windows 7 and earlier anyway as far as I remember.

Messages are telling me: last Chance to upgrade free to windows 10.  I'm clueless except that I have often been burned by updates.  And I've read that the changes in file and download info display are alarming to me.  So I need to know"

Will I lose multitudes of settings that keep me functioning now?

Can I actually restore Windows 7 intact and with my old settings, if I don't like 10?

Can I have Windows 7 still installed as an option I can turn on and off?

Is this the last day for "free", really?  Is it futile to avoid Windows 10?

A:Upgrade dilemma

"...Can I actually restore Windows 7 intact and with my old settings, if I don't like 10?..."
Before you do you update from Windows 7 to Windows 10, the only sure way to almost guarantee that a rollback from 10 to 7 succeeds:  Upon two trustworthy external media devices you have available, you make two full images each [**] of the following partitions: [Windows 7] System Reserved, OS [Windows 7 is normally on "C drive"], Data partition, and if there is one: factory restore.  I highly recommend using Macrium Reflect or something of that quality; do not use Windows Backup/Restore.  {**] And, I recommend not making "multable partition images on a single pass."

I have two systems.
My current system-Core i7 system with win 7 pro x64(Got the key from my cousin who gets such kinda stuff at his workplace for free from his company)
The other system-Intel core 2 duo with unactivated win xp pro 32 bit. This machine is just a download machine running 24x7.I had bought Vista HP x86 with this machine(OEM), but currently is not installed in it for obvious reasons.
Now I plan to upgrade my i7 system to Win 8 pro by paying 39.99$.
I read somewhere that we need proof of purchase for the upgrade offer. As I haven't purchased the win 7, will I be entitled to this offer? If not, I'll install win vista in my Core2 Duo system again(for the condition that pc must have a valid upgradeable OS), show my proof of purchase(I have the OEM box, with sticker and key) I'll buy the key.
Can I use that key and Win8 Pro boot media(which I'll obviously create whilst installation on Core 2 duo) for a clean installation over win 7 system? Ofcourse, I wont be installing the win8 Pro on my core2 Duo system..

With the upcoming release of Windows 10 and the fact that Microsoft are allowing free upgrades from 7 through 8.1, I'll be in a dilemma as to whether or not to upgrade as Vista still has a couple of years of extended support left.
I realize I multi-boot so already have 2 chances at it so could theoretically have all 3 boots as 10's - which I would continue to utilize as I am now, for testing different versions of security software.
I'm not a huge fan of 8/8.1 I'm afraid, despite heavy modifications to make it behave and look (mostly) like 7.
What would you do?

A:Dilemma - Upgrade To 7 Or Not?

Free update for windows 7 users? I'll keep that in mind although I haven't yet tried 10. I'm afraid that I won't be of much help since I don't run windows as my base OS. I do have Vista & 7 virtual machines but I prefer/use Vista more. As for a triple boot with 7 I'd say go for it. I once had 6 versions of windows installed on 2 hard drives so it can be done. Like you I can't stand 8. I'd have to buy it and not even a free upgrade to 10 would encourage me to get it.

My brother wants to upgrade from his x2 5000+ (he has m2ne mobo, 2 gigs ddr2) to a newer AMD processor. His budget is tight, so he wants to make sure that he buys the right one. His choices are:

Ahlon II x4 635/640
Phenom II x4 945

Obviously it would be real good if Athlon II X4 gave good money to performance ratio (decent compression/encoding/gaming performance), rather than Phenom II X4, as the series is at least 2000 Rupees costlier !

Any suggestions guys ?

A:Processor upgrade dilemma

The main difference between Athlon II and Phenom II is Athlon II lacks L3 cache. This article from Tom's hardware should help in your decision and weighing whether the extra cost is worth it: Athlon II Or Phenom II: Does Your CPU Need L3 Cache? : L3 Cache: How Important Is It To AMD?

If you're going for saving the most money, then the Athlon II 640 would be the better choice.

I would like to continue using Windows 7 but my concern is that it is no longer supported after January 2020. Ideally, if my laptop is still working, I would like to switch to Windows 10 in December 2019. Is there any way of doing this for free by, say, creating a Windows 10 installation disc, or do all free Windows 10 upgrades by whatever means have to be completed by 29 July 2016?

A:Windows 7 upgrade dilemma

Create a partition and install Windows 10 (of the edition you are entitled to based on current Win 7 edition) as a dual boot - activate it with your COA key on the sticker... your PC will get digital entitlement and you can then delete that partition if need be, knowing you can install Windows 10 anytime in the future and have it activated automatically online with the digital entitlement you already have.

First post - be kind!

I have computer, built out of a bundle, that I'd like to upgrade. Current spec is

G31M-ES2L
Intel E5300
No-name DDR2-800, single channel (running 5-5-5-18)

I have just bought a second-hand E7400 from ebay and I would like to maximize the potential of the 1066 FSB (over the E5300's 800, which I haven't overclocked). I have begun to use this computer for a lot of video editing and some games, so I'm considering getting some branded CL4 DDR2-800 memory and running dual channel, but in an ideal world I would have the memory frequency at 1066 to match the FSB. The 200 MHz core increase and larger L3 are what drew me (and the fact that I'll recoup some money selling my old E5300).

My questions are three-fold:

a) Would it be safe to go to 3 GHz with this new CPU on air cooling (specifically a Zalman 7700 on minimum speed)?

b) Would going to dual channel on branded CL4 give any noticeable performance hike over my no-name memory on single channel at CL5?

c) Would it be even better to get some 1066 memory and try an overclock? This board is stated by Gaigbyte themselves to allow 1066 memory by OC, but I'm wondering if it's safer to do this on native 1066 rather than over-volt some 800.
Many thanks in advance,

M.

I've got three WG302s of which the certificates on all of them are up. I've begun the process of replacing the firmware on one of them with OpenWrt. I've been using this to get the job done:
http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/netgear/wg302

I've been able to edit it up to the point of using fconfig to edit the boot script. I understand that I just need to edit two lines and the firmware replacement will be complete. This is what the boot script is right now:
Boot script:
.. fis load -b 0x01600000 ixp425
.. exec 0x0160004c

I think this is what it needs to change to:
Boot script:
.. fis load -b 0x01600000 kernel
.. exec 0x01600000

I've looked up fconfig commands to see if I could figure out how to edit the script lines:
http://labdasar.ee.itb.ac.id/lab/in...l/redboot-guide/redboot-editing-commands.html

I understand that it's basically command line editing of a boot script. But, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to use it.

A:OpenWrt flash / firmware upgrade dilemma

I found a solution:
http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/techref/bootloader/redboot

It's all the way down at Configuration Variables. I started messing with the commands until I stumbled across one that edited boot script data:
fconfig boot_script_data

Once you enter this line, you are rewriting the script from scratch, line-by-line.

A tip on buying a laptop,Buy what you want now and what you might want for hardware later.Becayuse a laptop is not easily upgraded and has strict guidlines as to what you can and can't do. So if your looking to buy a laptop for gaming or video editing or just making letters and such for trips.make sure you buy a laptop that can do that now and suit your needs for the next couple years.

I've tried locating the setup.exe on the CD but it says 'invalid command'.

So is there a way for me to create a bootable windows XP CD for that computer w/o needing to run any programs on it? I can run cmd though.

Q: Dilemma

Split from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/393442/windows-xp-freezes-at-mupsys-in-safe-modeno-administrator-passowrd/ - Hamluis.

Hello Everybody
An old XP PC we were using as a Minecraft server was having a printer driver installed when Windows unexpectedly rebooted. Since then it has been stuck in a boot loop. We get as far as the Windows startup screen then it reboots. In safe mode it hangs at the Mup.sys stage.
We have a Windows XP disc which we always used to use to get back to factory settings and I'm pretty sure we used it on this one when we acquired it but it tries ( I think!) to boot from CD but ends up booting from HD. It would not boot into Puppy Linux from CD so I did a Puppy boot from memory stick.
This worked up to editting the registry as described above but Windows is still stuck in the reboot loop.
I should say that I did ntfxfix on Windows partition 1 in Puppy as advised here: http://www.winhelp.us/recover-files-using-puppy-linux-page-2.html. On first reboot it did do chkdsk before the rebooting loop started again.
What else could I try?
thanks
Les

A:Dilemma

I am quite happy to do a clean Windows install if there is something in Windows I can edit with Puppy to force this. Nothing on PC I need but so far I cannot get Windows CD to run (or Puppy on Cd, that hung up as well hence memory stick used)

Hi, everybody. Please excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject I am asking about. As far as I know, you are not able to set up WPA encryption on your laptop in a wifi hotspot(unless of course the owner tells you the router's MAC address and passphrase). However, I was wondering what exactly the WPA does. I read that it supposedly encrypts all the so-called "data" that you send out(specifically for web browsing, downloading, etc.), and makes anyone trying to connect to your computer(and therefore your network) need to input the correct passphrase. If this is the case, isn't there some sort of software that could also encrypt your outbound data in the same way on a hotspot, but without actually setting up an encrypted network between your computer and a router(or access point)? I am guessing that if there is, then it would probably only encrypt outbound "data", and not protect you from people trying to access your computer. I have read about VPNs, TOR, etc., but as far as I can understand, these only try to mask your IP/identity. They also say that they "tunnel data," but doesn't all web traffic have to make "hops" anyway? So how would they "tunnel data," unless that company had a physical line running straight from your computer to their server? I welcome any number of responses on this subject, and I would appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thank you very much!

Basically they are exactly the same RAM modules, except the CL7's are 'better binned' (higher individual quality) than their CL9 counterparts. Modules that can't tolerate tighter timings / voltages are sold as the 'slower' sets.

PC2:

Reason,I provided you guys the ASIN number is because when I saw the price of this HDD now,it is 12K bucks....I don't believe I paid that much amount in 2011-12,so check the ASIN number that i got in my devices list in the control panel.

Now,here are my queries:-

Any data you want to keep, you make backups. If this is the ONLY copy of said data, you should expect to lose it at some point. ALL drives fail; it is only a question of when the drive failes.
4)As the old HDD is of Western Digital caviar series and the new one is of Toshiba, will they clash with each other?Click to expand...

No.
Here is what I would do;
1 First and foremost, make at least two copies of whatever data you want to keep. Do this on separate media; ie two external drives, two flash drives, NAS, whatever.
2 Build the system and install just your new drive. Do the windows install, updates, drivers, etc, etc.
3 Once completely finished with the windows install, shutdown and install the old drive. Windows will assign the next available drive letter to your old drive ie E, F, whatever.
4 As for access to your old disk, you can edit permissions to make it unavailable to some users.

Your link to your drive on amazon does not work.

Hi guys just wondering if there's someone out there who can actually clear up this problem once and for all !

I bought a Coolermaster 460W extreme power plus PSU from ebuyer. They have sent me the PSU and a EU type cable to plug into my UK wall !

On the PSU it has no switches to select voltage, but it does have a sticker on saying "AC INPUT 230V ONLY"

Am I right, therefore, in presuming that if I took a UK cable and used that with the PSU it would not blow up my house and/or my newly built rig ?!

Help appreciated !

A:EU / UK PSU dilemma

I assume and remember knowing that UK wall sockets give 230 V AC power? Therefore yes, it will work with a UK cable and will not break anything. Or then get an adapter instead of a new cable.

Hi,
I've been trying to learn to upgrade a laptop, so I got my fathers old laptop. He says if I can fix it, he'd like to use it to get online. Anyway, the thing is my brother in law called himself fixing it and messed it up. somehow, it won't boot from any drive except for C drive. I doesn't acknowledge the floppy drive, and the CDrom, it acknowledges, but won't boot from it. I've been trying to get to the BIOS screen but when it comes on, it goes straight to windoze, even when I push pause. Oh it'll stop, but it will just stop until I let it go on to windoze. The laptop is an old Toshiba Satellite 205cd with 100mhz on it and 24mb of memory. I figured I could bump up the ram some and change out the drive but... I think the guy did something to the BIOS or.... well, if anyone can help, I'm all ears. Thanx! The triforce is with you.

This one is about my own computer at home: Does anyone know if there is a free utility that can recognize and eliminate the MPFexe trojan? This pain keeps coming back. I remove the exe file from my HKLM...Run folder but there's got to be some other file that receates it and puts it back. If I just knew all the registry entries this trojan makes, I could delete them all. I tried True Sword and it seemed to work but my trial is expired and I was hit again. I'll have to wait til the bank account is replenished before I can buy the thing. Any comments comparing True Sword, Registry Mechanic or other sub $50 utilities that work well?

Yet another computer I'm working on has a major internet problem: No matter what I set as the homepage, it continually goes to about.com or about. something and takes me to a screen 404dns.com which, of course, is adult oriented. I've tried resetting my home page, finding and deleting any 404 files on the harddrive... @$%#^&*%!!! It's one of those days... Is anyone out there familiar with this problem and what files I can maim and destroy to get rid of this nusiance? Oh, yeah: Also when I come to this site and sign in, it says "Welcome Ron the Geek" and then, when I go to the next page, it tells me I have to register... I'm about to run Spybot and let it just get rid of everything it finds and if I still have a problem, I'll run a Hijack. But if anyone is already familiar with this pest, I can use some information. Thanks!

Hi,

Having thought hard buying a new PC to upgrade my existing one I have come to two choices. Each one has exactly the same spec apart from the processors. One is an Athlon 2200+ and the other is Pentium 4 2.2Ghz. Both have 512mb of DDR memory.

The thing is is that I've heard the athlon 2200+ performs much better than the pentium 2.2 even though it runs roughly at 1.8Ghz. I even seen the 2.2 Pentium being compared with the Athlon 2000+ which makes me think that the 2200+ is far better than 2.2.

Help I'm a bit confused about all this!!!!!

I was hoping if anyone could help me decide which is the better one and to tell me if I'm talkin rubbish or not!

Thanks
John

Hi all,
I recently got a new wireless router/dsl modem and have it set up on a home network to replace a previous dsl router (instead of renting, I bought one). I set up wireless encryption, like before and one laptop connects fine, but the 2nd does not. Well, it connects intermittently at 11 mb for a short time then goes down to 1 mb if any connection at all. When encryption is not on, everything works as it should.

First, I don't understand how it is connected but losing bandwidth(?), and why the encryption worked fine before and now does not.

A couple things: It is an Actiontec dsl modem/router with WEP setup. Maybe the card is not too old to work well with the new router? When setting up the WEP on the old wireless laptop card it sometimes doesn't save. Authentication type when setting up the router is set to shared out of a choice of that, OPEN and BOTH. The laptop only seems to work when it is set to SHARED. I do have ZoneAlarm installed, but when I shut it off, the problem persists. Also, remember the other laptop seems to work fine with it on.

What else can I try? Yes I've moved it closer to the router, but that doesn't help the connection. I can go to 90% Good connection but it doesn't improve the speed (I guess it is the Tx rate). The laptop card is a Netgear MA401.

Thanks for suggestions

I use an 800mhz iMac with OS 10.3

My Dazzle Hollywood Bridge is connected to an Allegro DVD/VHS player that reads every format. When I first got the Allegro, the Bridge worked fine on both the DVD side and the VHS side and I could view and clip anything on iMovie. I haven't changed any settings (other than OS upgrades, including Panther), or wiring and now both the DVD and VHS has extreme static with large dark patches and the audio is nothing but screeching. I can barely make out the images. I've checked and double checked the wiring, rebooted several times, tried an S-Video cable and it's the same thing.

I've plugged a TV into the DVD/VHS player and it worked fine. Replaced the Firewire cable, and replaced the Audio/Video cable from the player to the Bridge with brand new wires.

Has anyone using the Hollywood Bridge had similiar problems? Does it sound like something fried inside the Bridge?

Being accursed with a best buy gift card of ~$75, I chose to peruse their selection of CD/DVD RW, since my desktop lacks one. Unfortunately, their variety is meager; a HP 1260i and a LG GH24 are the only internals among the plethora of externals. Both have similar price, ratings, and + & - CD/DVD compatibility, which most are superfluous to my needs. The LG, however, has lightscribe, which is superfluous as well. I haven't had enough experience with either company's hardware to winnow the choice to a singularity, so hopefully you guys might know. On the other hand, should I look elsewhere if both prove to be inferior? Thanks for your consideration.

A:Internal CD/DVD RW dilemma

Good, but loaded question. I'll try to address some points.

I've never seen or heard of any DVD burner having any problems reading/writing cds. So if that was of any concern I'd dismiss that.

Not sure if HP builds their own or if they rebrand others (likely rebrand, but I don't know), but LG drives IMO are pretty decent (I actually had one die, but I've known several other people that swear by them). HP pretty much started or was a frontrunner on Lightscribe though, and I think if you plan on doing any of that having an HP drive might be better. I recently saw a video review of an older Lightscribe drive (one I have) and apparently, at least for CDs, the media you lightscribe onto makes a big difference in the quality.

$75, if either of those drives (I didn't check BB) are close to using up your gift card, maybe you should spend the money on bluray disks or something. You can buy a cheap burner from Newegg for less than $30 that will work great. Maybe spend the gift card on the lightscribe capable disks which are expensive everywhere.

My question is what's better? 1.5gb running at PC2700 or 1gb running at PC3200?

( I only have 512mb sticks and I don't feel like spending the money to buy 2 1gb sticks )

I'd think the 1.5GB would be better but the difference will likely be minimal either way. If you want to know for sure do some benchmarks with programs like PCMark and 3DMark and see what scores better.

Hi,

Im not entirely sure of the exact problem i have, so will explain as fully as possible......

I have XP (service pack 2) running on a Dell GX280.

I use this machine for music production and recently bought a Korg nanoKontrol (MIDI Controller) to use with Propellerheads Reason 4.

This device comes with no software, and is plug and play. But when i plug it in i hear the usb device audio alert, but reason doesnt seem to install the device.

When i go device manager, in the sounds and audio devices it displays as "usb audio device" when i right click and go properties it shows the correct device and displays as "functioning correctly"

But when i try to find it within Reason 4 it will not display in the available MIDI devices list. I changed this Korg Device for a Akai one, only to experience the same problem!

I have tried both devices on my laptop running vista and they both install correctly and both work within Reason 4. Just not on my XP machine.

I already have a MIDI keyboard installed and working properly on my XP machine, but cant figure out why it cant find my new MIDI device.

Im thinking it could be a midi port within XP or a registry key preventing the device installing/working correctly?!? I have also tried uninstalling the driver, only for the same thing to occur when i plug it back in. Also tried all usb ports on the back of the PC, as well as reinstalling my music software.

Any help with this matter would be much ... Read more

Ive recently replaced my router and modem due to internet problems (Getting disconnected every 15 minutes, losing connection for 2-3 hours - even power cycling and resetting didnt help)
I have a wireless router, ive been using it for almost 2 weeks now, and the new modem for 2 days, and there is a big improvement.
Now though, i have wireless internet but cable internet doesnt work! i have 17 computers connected, and when i connect the cable from the router to my laptop - it works, but when i connect it to the hub to be distributed, there is still no internet!
Can the hub be the problem? Im not sure if it is the hub, because we can still play LAN, and computers can still see each other, its the internet that is the problem...
(Every IP and DNS is manually configured)
Thanks!

A:Network Dilemma

I don't know your level of sophistication so bare with me if i say something outside your knowledge base (higher or lower).
First off, make sure you bought a router and not an access point - I suspect you did if the computers can network through the LAN
Second, make sure the modem is being plugged into the WAN port on the router and not a LAN port.
Third, try connecting and resetting both the router and the device
Forth, log into the router settings via the router IP (typically 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.2.1), and configure the WAN settings to reflect your specific service provider.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 successfully blocked a malicious URL.
My concern is that within seconds IE9 crashed. Within 2 minutes I attempted a scan with Kaspersky and the scan was almost frozen. Scan was very, very slow. I aborted the scan.

A subsequent scan about 10 minutes later with Kasperksy and Malwarebytes was negative.

Any further steps to take to insure my system was not infected ? Seems to be normal since incident. I just felt the IE9 crash and slow scan were significant. Thanks !

Sorry if this gets long, but I'm having a "What programs will this best work in?" dilemma.

Basically what I'm trying to accomplish is this: Client needs a Powerpoint presentation that will be sent to international offices. They also have a self-evaluation form to go along with said presentation. I need to find a way to connect the two so it acts somewhat like the following:

PPT: Slide 1 - Intro
PPT: Slide 2 - Information about widget. Click this link to take survey about widget. [Link then opens form.]
FORM: Section 1: Widget questionnaire. Click this link to return to presentation. [Link goes back to PPT]
REPEAT until PPT and FORM are complete.
SAVE form and email back to client

The problem I'm running into is neither Powerpoint nor Word allow linking to each other's bookmarks. Powerpoint can't make interactive data forms and Word, well, it's Word and not really great for anything but word processing.

I looked into making it all a linked and bookmarked PDF file (with no PPT animations - just images of the slides) however, we would need them to be 2 pdfs (one is the slides, the second is the form - this way only the forms get emailed back to the client) but there is no way I've found to link between bookmarks of 2 different PDF files. I'm pretty damn savvy with Acrobat, but maybe I've missed a way to do this?

So, ultimately my question is this: What is the best way/program/programs to accomplish what I need to do? I&... Read more

Hi all,

I've been using Windows 7 since the release of the beta (now using RC) on my old Pentium 4 desktop - it runs a treat!

Then, a couple of weeks ago, I made use of a great offer from Dell (no doubt discounting PCs pre-Win 7 launch) and bought a laptop. The laptop is pre-installed with Vista 64 and so I've ordered the Windows 7 upgrade.

Ok, so the dilemma is, the licence on the RC version expires in May (I think) so what do I do at that point? Am I right in saying the Win 7 upgrade won't work on my desktop as it's 64-bit? Is there any way around this? Or do I have to bite the bullet and buy a 32-bit edition of Win 7 for my desktop?

Please advise,

Kev

Hi,

I could really use some direction on this dilemma. So I am here to explain the situation and hopefully as in the past I will receive great assistance from this forum.

I am in an area where high speed is NOT available and I am currently using Bell dial up!! I will do whatever is necessary to have any association with BELL removed from my home. Bell has instituted a version of Hotmail called Bell Mail. This is attached to my ISP with my Bell email account. I also have Windows Live Mail that I use as my mail program. Both have the same email address. The reason I use the resident email is due to the fact that I belong to a number of committees and I need to retain the email correspondence in separate folders I have created.
I was told that I cannot transfer these folders from WLM to a web based email? I can however as of today create new folders in Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo etc. I really do not want to maintain two identical email platforms! As it is now with Bell Mail all of my mail first comes into Bell Mail and then when I sign on to WLM it downloads to that program. I am constantly maintaining the two platforms! I have no idea on how to cancel the Bell Mail account?

Bottom line here is that;

What mail program would best suit my needs, Web based or resident?

Is there a way to transfer my current folders and contacts from WLM to a web based email?

What dangers are to be considered in having all of the detail stored on a web based email in the event of a crash. I know I ... Read more

Hello,

I am thinking of making a possible return to Kaspersky. In my country, I am getting it for dirt cheap price, and therefore, it's very difficult to resist the temptation. However, even if I go on to buy it, I ain't so sure if I really need the extra features of KIS -- as I don't use the following modules:

-TAM
-Parental Control
-Software Updater
-Anti Spam
-Anti Banner
-Webcam Protection
-Safe Money
-Wi-Fi related Protection

However, the only module which interests me is the "Firewall."

So, what do you guys think? Based on my above preferences, am I better off choosing KAV this time around? Or, is KIS still the better choice with its superior Firewall?

A:KAV/KIS purchase dilemma

But KIS has the "Application Control" (HIPS) which is intimate related to Kaspersky FireWall, and We could say is one of its best modules also with System Watcher... It's up to You, of course, the decision

I want to upgrade my HDD as the old one is too slow. Is there anyway I could install it on the new HDD seeing that there would be no operating system to upgrade and thus it won't accept the upgrade Key. Also I used the key once, would I be able to reuse it with the new install?

Thanks guys

Welcome to Seven Forums, mackdaddy187.

See this tutorial and the note under Option One - basically, you CAN install to a blank HD - Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

If there is a problem activating it, just call Microsoft and tell them what you did. They will be able to give you a new key.
