I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello ZMan, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You will not be able to have a slideshow with the logon screen saver. As in the tutorial, it can only be a blank black screen if enabled. Anything else, and you get that message in the NOTE box at the top of the tutorial.

Sorry,
Shawn

We recently reformatted my Mom's computer and cut down a lot of the fluff in Windows and all the other programs so it can actually run at a usable speed. But now, she doesn't have access to the slideshow screensaver option (select a folder and the screensaver is a slideshow of all the pictures in the folder).

Is there a way to recover this? In "Display Properties-Screen Saver" - it doesn't come up at all.

If not, what are some good, free, and relatively easy to use programs that aren't horribly bulky or full of crap to use for this? I mean, ideally it'd be the same thing as she used to do through Windows -- select a folder and be done with it, but I'm willing to try some other stuff.

Suggestions, please!

When I try to use the screen saver "photos" the screen saver will start, but the photos will flash constantly black-photo-black-etc. When I preview the slide show, this does not happen. I've moved around the start time of the screen saver, to make sure that nothing else starts up at the same time.

Why is this happening???

The problem is that Windows XP allows me to set the slider at 6 seconds minimum.

Is it possible to get around this?

Thanks!

I have set up my Win 7 Pro 64-bit screen saver to bring up the password logon screen upon activation of the mouse/keyboard/whatever.

Late last week, whenever I moved the mouse or clicked the keyboard, the screensaver would go directly to the desktop, bypassing the logon screen. I went to the screensaver utility and unchecked and rechecked the 'On resume, display the logon screen' box, selecting 'Apply and OK' each time.

This would work for maybe two or three times and then go back to returning to the desktop.

I've run MalwareBytes, IOBit, and Norton and all come up virus/rootkit free.

Any ideas?

A:Screen Saver to password logon screen failing

There are a few seconds of "grace" time, meaning when the screensaver launches you have a few seconds to "wake it" and go back to your desktop without locking it.

I guess I can assume you're not talking about that, right?

I've developed an unusual problem. When the computer is idle for some time, the monitor goes black and there are the usual Windows logos floating about the screen, as normal.

More recently, about half the time, the monitor screen will go black and then switch to white. When it is white, there is the eternity wheel going round and round. The monitor continues to switch from black to white every few seconds. It will do this indefinitely unless I intervene.

If I press a keyboard key, I will get the message shown in the attached picture. When I clear the message away, things go back to normal.

I have made no changes to the Logon Screen Saver. As a matter of fact, I have never set up a screen saver, logon or otherwise. What could be causing this problem and how do I fix it?

I have a fingerprint readers installed on my desktop machine and my laptop. On my laptop, anytime it goes to sleep after being idle I have to use my fingerprint to wake it. This is not the case with the desktop. I would like to make it so. I thought the option for secure logon/wake was in the display/sceen saver settings, but I can't seem to find it.

A:Security logon after screen saver time out/sleep.

OThe only setting I know of is the checkmark next to the delay timer that says "On resume, display logon screen" (or words to that effect - the exact wording varies slightly depending on your settings). Checking this causes Windows to ask for password - presumably the fingerprint reader in your case.

a friend told me how to set up my screensaver so that it scrolls thru all my pictures in "my pictures" folder. I've done so, but there's quite a delay between pictures, it doesn't seem like it's showing pictures from the whole folder, sometimes the pictures are very small off to one corner, and in-between pictures the screen is blank for a bit and usually has a symbol on it such as a musical note, "exit", a figure running, etc. My friend seems to have hers set up the same way, but it doesn't have these problems. It just scrolls thru her pictures, one after the other, with the pictures taking up the whole screen.

I have my screensaver set for ten minutes and have my monitor set to go blank at 20. That is what yours is doing. If you want to change the time before it goes blank check in your Control Panel under Power Options. You should not leave your screen on all the time, there is no reason. Let it go blank after about 20 minutes.

This is a strange little problem that's really bugging me. Just recently my computer started to hang at the logon screen. Whenever I click on my account, Window's is telling me "loading your settings" as usual. Now the weird part is when it takes a bit longer then usual to load my account. Then when it proceeds to the desktop, there's nothing there!!! I can see my wallpaper but the taskbar and all my icon's are missing. I tried Ctrl+Alt+Del but the task manager didn't pop up either. I then manually restarted my computer and click on my account again. Now my account loads fine and I can see all my icon's and the taskbar. How in the world did it start correctly this time?! Mind you that this problem doesn't happen all the time but if I shut down my computer and turn it back on, it usually happens. Would it be perhaps that an application is trying to run at startup? Perhaps a virus of some sort?

Screensaver is enabled and so is 'Display welcome screen when coming back from screensaver'.

This works most of the time, however on a regular basis the screensaver will resume to the following screen and just stay there forever.

The only thing to do is to press the power button, at which point a popup alerts that a user is logged in, do you still want to shut down.

Thanks,

Not too sure what will cause that, but perhaps if you were to disable and then re-enable it, it might come back to normal.

Go to Start > Run... and type in "control userpasswords2" without the quotes. Click on the Advanced tab, then uncheck the box "Require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete".

Restart, log in as normal, then follow these steps again to re-enable it. Let us know how it goes.

When I received the computer it had no boot disc and none of the other add on software. Was instructed to call their support number that came with the unit and everything was installed via the internet except the OS and some other programs. So I have no boot disc.

OK, so I did an update to my McAfee software and I rebooted and logged on and now get the doomed black screen of death. Have a cursor. Can get to boot options (F12) or task manager but that's it. HELP please.

I did an upgrade from Win 7 , and Screen Saver / Turn off display after 5 mins was working under Win 7 64 bit
As my title suggest Screen Saver / Lock screen Slideshow / Turn off display after 5 mins are not working under Win 10
The Lock screen Slideshow is there when Win 10 starts but only shows ONE image, never moves to another.
THINGS I've done so far to get any of these working ...Screen Saver / Lock screen Slideshow / Turn off display after 5 mins
I’ve turned off all the Wake on lan functions
Tried different folder/ images for the lockscreen Slideshow ,window spotlight and picture
Tried to set new power options , was able to get SLEEP to show up in "Start" as it was not there before, but once click , the display DID turn off, but wouldn’t turn back on with mouse movement keyboard presses, had to do a hard reboot. Win 10 started without issue and the SLEEP mode was no longer aviable via the power "start" menu.
Anyone have a clue how to get all of these working. Really would like my display to turn off after 5 mins , and the Screen saver to work , the Lockscreen I'm not fussed about

Hi,
I have a Dell 1750 Inspiron laptop that I use "as a desktop" as every piece of hardware is connected to it.
It runs with Windows 7 Home Edition. It has a 4gb memory and a 450gb hard drive which is less than half used.

I have the screen saver set to Photos and usually have a cut-in time of 1 hour idle.

The screen saver cuts in exactly when it should and scrolls through my photos for as long as the laptop is left idle.

However, as soon as I touch the mouse/keyboard, instead of reverting to the "normal" screen the photos disappear, the blank screen fades for a few seconds and then a message appears in a box, saying that the Photos Screen Saver is not responding, and gives the options of either close the program or wait for the programme to respond. Waiting doesn't seem to work so I have to click on close the programme and then cancel the statement that Windows will try to find a solution, because it doesn't!

I have tried to vary the time before the screen saver kicks in, anything from 1 minute to several hours but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Can anyone help please?

A:Photo Screen Saver wont revert back to live screen

Have you checked the timing for when the HDD turns off or Sleep or Hibernation kicks in [I disable both of those and lengthen the time on the HDD to several hours], Control Panel, Power Options?

The reason I mentioned the HDD is the symptoms you mentioned seem to apply. The screen saver could be in memory and not affected by the HDD until it's asked for something.

I am having a very wierd issue with vista's screen saver. So basically when I leave the comp idle it goes into screen saver then turns off the monitor after 15 mins. Sometimes, more often than not, I come back and move the mouse and hit a few keys on the keyboard and nothing. The monitor wont come out of standby I try turning it off and back on, and nothing. I have the latest drivers for everything in my system and I checked the power management settings and they both are able to wake the computer up. I have a G15 keyboard and I keep the leds on and when this happens the leds are off and the lazer for the mouse is off too. Any suggestions as to what my problem is would be fantastic!

Thanks.

I have a very strange problem, I'm stumped and would appreciate any help.
On my new HP6910 laptop, when my XP Pro SP3 (system default XP) Screen Saver comes on, the screen has a partial heavily corrupted copy of the bottom taskbar at the top of the screen (!) and when I ctrl-alt-delete and enter my password the taskbar at the bottom is missing all of its text but otherwise looks reasonable. The Oulook, Word, and other started tasks in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen have their icons, just no text, even if there is a group of them and you hover the mouse over the group and they expand. Most of them still work, but Windows Desktop Search (WDS) doesn't work and I have to close them and restart them. This seemed to start a few days after I installed WDS, added a DVI monitor to the docking station and the same day I installed Activesync 4.5. I've reinstalled WDS and removed my wallpaper but this didn't help, I'm about to reinstall Activesync but it takes a few hours to sync for the first time so I thought I would see if anybody had any other ideas before doing this.
All help is greatly appreciated!

If you manually click sleep, does it go to sleep and stay asleep? It doesn't wake up on its own after 10 seconds or so?

I downloaded a free sample of a screensaver from digiscapes.com just to have a look - and then uninstalled it. Now I constantly get a pop up window telling me I'm running an unregistered Buddy Saver screensaver. My husband reinstalled and uninstalled for me, but I'm still living with this Buddy Saver annoyance. How do I get rid of it ?? (I also sent them an email weeks ago to ask what to do but no response). Thanks

A:Buddy Saver screen saver

It is probably running at startup. Go to start > run and type in msconfig and enter. Go to the startup tab and uncheck the item for it listed there.

After installing the latest NVIDIA 182.50 Drivers for my 8500 GeForce 8500GT card on my Gateway AMD x64 with Vista Home Premium 64bit, now at start up the Boot screen doesn't come up and neither does the Vista green loading bars, just get black screen, no signal until the Vista Logon screen appears. I used to get the Boot screen with F10 boot options and F2 BIOS options and the Gateway Logo, but not anymore.

Any idea why and how I can get the boot screen back ??

---Wow this is frustrating, I just got done fixing two other computers- one was helping someone else fix their computer, because they were seeking someone with basic expertise, and here I am seeking someone with higher knowledge to help me out! thanks in advance to all who contribute!--- HP Media Center M8330FWindows Vista 32 bit4GB RAM, NVIDIA graphics card, and plenty of HD spaceF9 hardware diagnastics: A-OK!Suddenly this computer decided to malfunction, without installing anything new, or updates prior to its "crashing." I'm pretty wary to spyware and virus of the like, so I am careful to what is installed and opened on this computer. But for all I know, when I was out of the house someone could have accessed the the machine, infecting it with something. I noticed before I left the house that it took a ridiculously long time to empty out the recycle bin (has anyone else had this problem in vista?). I know there were a lot of high res pictures in there, so I'm guessing quite a few gigs of deletion, but after an hour it hadn't even progressed. It said 13 minutes and appeared to be frozen, but was still moving. I restarted the computer and tried the same thing-- exact same result. <--- this is the only hint I have as to what happened, because before this everything was fine!Anyway, I got home and turned on the computer (after someone turned it off) and it just booted up the HP screen and then went to the windows logo loading page, except t... It may be that someone didn't turn off the PC rather that it experienced a damaging event and shut down.Suggest you check the RAM - remove and reseat and try rebooting. If not successful your mother board may be damaged - nasty thought. There is also this site which may be relevant.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831515If you can get your PC going suggest you check Event Viewer. Then restore files from the recycle bin and then use SHIFT/DELETE to get rid of them, delete a small file and see if emptying the recycle bin works OKPaul

Hi people, i've just registered to this forum to ask you about this, Since i've made a registry defrag with TuneUp Utilities (which probably has gone wrong), when i reset the computer, and I logon to my user, it shows a black screen, then back at the logon screen. If I do it again, the user doesn't show up anymore!
It happened three times already, i had to make new users, and i'm sick of it. Any ideas of what could it be?

A:Black screen after login for some seconds, then back at logon screen!

Welcome!

Yet another case of registry defraggers causing harm. In the future, you know now to stay far away from them.

I suggest a system restore to get to a point before TuneUp utilities. If that doesn't work, it will be time for a repair install.

Good luck!

I cannot get to my desktop as this black screen is preventing me to do so.

It doesn't even give me enough time to log in!
It happened once before but it magically started to work the other time.
This never happened when I was still using the stock 640GB HDD that the laptop came with. So maybe I'm thinking it's because of my SSD having problems?

Fortunately, I can still get to Safe Mode and it says I got a BSOD and here's some details that it showed:

BCCode: d1
BCP1: 0000000000000010
BCP2: 0000000000000002
BCP3: 0000000000000000
BCP4: FFFFF8800170F5D6

I went to Event Viewer and took a look on what made my computer mess up and it says that winlogon.exe and Explorer. initiated the restart of my computer and said there was no reason for it.

A BSoD issue...

PIII Intel 82845 motherboard PC with Win XP SP2.
I had previously installed Vista Pack (thus replacing the Logon UI interface, other start menu etc) However that was removed half a yr back. It didn't quite uninstall Logon Ui. However, that did not pose any problem, as the XP without traces of Vista Pack continue to Boot up (although Logon screen splashed Vista type Logon Ui)..

That was to prepare you for history of this XP installation.

then, few days back, I used a exhaustive program called TuneUp utilities for XP 2008 edition. Somehow, I got hooked into changing Display setting etc. No probs. However, on few tries of changes, I happened to remember I clicked on the Configuration option of , 'Switch to Default Windows XP Logon UI' or something that prompted that TuneUp wants to bypass the VistaLOGON Ui.

After that setup change, the XP goes to boot process. On appearance of Logon screen, which somehow, it still props up old Vista Ui logon, a BOSD appears. STO P error. "Your system has been shutdown to prevent damage to registry."

I tried all options in Safe Mode, F8 button. I also used the "Don't shutdown on bluescreen option" That's how I managed to note down the Registry thing.

It also prompts me to disable 'Shadowing' option of RAM in BIOS. Although I doubt, cause the XP was working fine without any bios change.

I do not hv any backup disk or a bootable XP disk. Though I am having a Win95 partition and can boot to... Read more

A:LOGonUI.exe corrupt? Blue screen as soon as Logon Screen appears

One small thing to add: How can i copy the LogonUI.ex_ from a directory created for a XP SP2 file set, to windows\system32\logonUI.exe Is it a command called as expand.exe Is it inside XP SP2 directory. Can it be run from DOS bootup without HIMEM access. Basic DOS? Or is it recommended to boot up from XP bootable CD and run expand .exe to unpack LogonUI.ex_ or just copying internet dowloaded LogonUI.exe for SP2?

OK here is my problem.
I have a (my kid?s) HP Pavilion DV6-7002ax (aka dv6z-7000 (AMD-A10-4600M) using Win 7 (64) Home Premium and it has lately (last few weeks) developed a weird ?blue screen with active cursor? hanging habit.

After you log-on and the welcome screen pops up with the spinning circle and then before the desktop displays it switched to displaying a pale blue screen, with active mouse cursor.
Up to that ?blue screen? point, after logging on, the ?boot? is slow but normal, based upon my experience with this HP Pavilion.

This blue screen delay/hanging lasts around 3 ? 5 minutes and then the desktop loads and all is well.
I have searched the web and found many references to black and blue screens with active cursor related to HP Laptops but I have not found a real solution that has fixed my problem. Apart from just wait and wonder!

Suggestions I have tried include;
1. Scanned with Emsisoft Anti-Malware, Malwarebytes Anti- Malware, SUPERAntispyware (including in Safe Mode)
2. Specialty Scan with AdwareCleaner, rkill, TDssKiller, CCleaner
3. Registry Clean and Defrag with Wise Registry Cleaner
4. F5 > F8 > System Repairs Tools > Repair Startup (HP Pavilion has partition for System Repair)
5. F10 BIOS ? no issues that I can find
6. Command Prompt > sfc scannow (System File Checker)
7. Completed Full Disk Check C: > Properties > Tools > Disk Check
8. Alt + Control + Delete when blue screen appears > switched to taks ma... Read more

A:Pale Blue Screen with active cursor after logon & Welcome screen

There is a hotfix for this issue, with the issue being so wide spread one would think Microsoft would put it in an update. The hotfix is called Windows6.1-KB2578159, make sure to download the 64 bit version from Microsoft's site. This will hopefully fix your issue. At the hospital I work at we have had this issue a lot and just now found this hotfix, so I can't say for sure if it will fix your issue. Also make sure you have all the Windows updates installed. Hope that helps.

While the Windows 7 desktop background pictures fill the screen, the screen saver photos do not.

Is there a way to have the latter fill the screen as well?
