VPN - Failed to establish a secure connection

Q: VPN - Failed to establish a secure connection

Hello all.

I have a VPN question?

What does the error msg. "Failed to establish a secure connection" implies or means?

The above message is being received after entering username and password for authenication when attempting to connect via VPN.

I'm using Nortel Networks VPN Client.

I had used Cisco VPN as well, and have received the same above message.

Seeking an explanation and/or answer.

Preferred Solution: VPN - Failed to establish a secure connection

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: VPN - Failed to establish a secure connection

It means that something went wrong. It is a very generic error message and pretty useless. You should try to get some more detailed log information from your client or the server.

I have tried to google the issue and many of the issues were solved without explaining how it was solved.

My dropbox cannot connect or establish a secure connection:
And neither can I access my live-email:
I'm pretty sure these two issues are connected to each other.

According to Dropbox's help desk:
Your system time is off
Your computer will compare your system date to the expiration date of our SSL certificate. If your system time is stuck in the past or so far in the future that it is outside of Dropbox's SSL certificate expiration date, a secure connection will not be established. This is easily corrected by changing your system time to the current date.

You have a proxy or firewall blocking the Dropbox service
Dropbox uses standard internet ports (80 and 443) to transfer data. However, many firewalls and security software will proactively block unauthorized or unknown internet services. Add Dropbox to your proxy or firewall settings as an exception to connect to the Dropbox service.
Now, my computer time is not off. It's precise and accurate. Even if it is off, is there any other way to correct it other than right click-> adjust time/date?

And that my firewall is blocking it, it cannot be because I have tried to disable the firewall, seen through the list of programs which are not to be blocked, and no changes. I'm not sure about the proxy thing though, I'm not very tech-smart.

I hope you can help me out since it is quite ... Read more

please help I have several problems going on. ...

I first noticed some issues when I tried to upload a new file to my Dropbox acct. It stated " can't establish secure connection".

I then went to my gmail acct and it states, "Unable to reach Gmail. Please check your internet connection or company's network settings"

My cmptr appears to be online, I can see the globe that shows me I'm connected but when I go to network settings it says "network 3". When I click the drop down box for more options, no other names/options are listed.

When I go to network/sharing to turn the network discovery on, I clicked "on", then apply, but nothing changes..

And lastly,I keep getting an error message from Windows stating that it can't check for updates. I haven't update my cmptr in months due to this error.
The error code is: 80040154

Please, Please help!!!!!!!!
Thanks in advance,

Hi!

i've carelessly executed .vbs file and today I noticed that secure internet connection doesn't work in firefox and dropbox. Also, steam exhibited some difficulties in logging in (but that could be just steam). Chrome is working normally.

Other symptoms are that windows firewall and windows defender are turned off when I start the computer. I can turn the firewall on, but defender is blocked by group rule (I managed to override this by deleting the registry key). I ran windows defender but it didn't find anything. There was also an error while trying to install optional windows update.

Here is some info that seems related to my case: http://www.malware-traffic-analysis.net/2016/07/25/index4.html

Just like in this example, malware was in .vbs file and I have SYS>mycomputername<.exe showing in task manager. If I shut down this process I'm unable to access internet anymore (something about proxy not being set up properly).

This exe runs from this folder: c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\Java

Contents of it are:
<mycomputername>.aes
<mycomputername>.zip
<mycomputername>X.xml
Ionic.Zip.Reduced.dll

Hi All -

I have a batch file that is SUPPOSED to upload a designated file to an FTP.

Everything APPEARS to work if you're not looking closely, but it doesn't actually work. The file can be seen on the FTP, but it has a size of 0.

I get this error after my put command: 425 Failed to Establish Connection

I've read up on this, and it sounds like some people get this error when they're not in passive mode. I'm telling it to switch to passive and, again, it appear to do so, but it apparently isn't sticking as when I get to my put statement, it tells me I should be in PASV rather than PORT.

I've attached a pic of my output... any idea what I'm doing wrong?? I'm new to the whole command line FTP thing, so it could be something really silly I'm missing.

Thanks!!

A:command line FTP - 425 Failed to Establish Connection

I've now tried an alternate way of doing the upload using APIs rather than a Batch file... but I'm getting the same result. The file appears on the FTP, but the file size is zero.

This would seem to mean that whatever is happening is related to the FTP not respoding (or something) rather than to my coding?? But I still don't know how to fix it!!

I can transfer the same file to the FTP using a client like Filezilla with no issues.

Any idea where it's falling over??

You can tell Firefox to bypass these certificate warnings. You should only bypass the warning if you're sure that the site is legitimate. Legitimate public sites will not ask you to do this. An invalid certificate can be an indication of a web page that will defraud you or steal your identity.

1. On the warning page, click Or you can add an exception....
2. Click Add Exception.... The Add Security Exception dialog will appear.
3. Click Get Certificate.

5. Click Confirm Security Exception if you want to trust the site.
Should I advise her to do this ?

This is happening across multiple browsers on multiple computers regardless of the website.  I can log into Facebook, but not get to any of the content.  I can get to my bank's page, but not log into the site.  Sometimes I can "send error report", other times I cannot.

I have done troubleshooting such as clearing the cache (everything, including saved passwords) and rebooting the systems.  It happens in Explorer, Firefox, Dragon, Chrome.  If one computer won't connect, the others won't connect.  If one browser won't load the site, the others won't load the site.

I'm tempted to restore my one laptop to see if that solves the problem.  If it does, it is not a viable solution as the disc for my pc was lost in the move between states.

Any help?

Thanks.

I hope someone can help me. For the last few days, when I first put on the computer and using my RoboForm password software to login to my Google mail I get a 'Secure Connection Failed' notice appear. I keep closing out of it and it keeps reappearing. After about 12 goes it disappears. Then using my RoboForm I login to eBay and have exactly the same notice, keep closing out of it and reappearing until after only 3 or 4 attempts it finally disappears. Usually any site I visit after the first 2 sites is alright and I don't get this notice.

The notice says: Secure Connection Failed www.trustplus.com:443 uses an invalid security certificate.(error code: sec error expired certificate)
This could be a problem with the server's configuration or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server. If you have connected to this server successfully in the past the error may be temporary and you may try again later.

Generally the sites in question are Gmail and eBay.

My tech guy said he thought it was a RoboForm issue. RoboForm have told me it isn't. I am using XP and Firefox browser. Has anyone got an idea what this is and how I can get rid of it.
Thanks.

I have noticed after the recent update to Firefox Version 37.0.1 I am getting this message when trying to log into some sites.
Secure Connection Failed

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.

I also tried restarting the computer. I cleared all history, cookies, and cache as well, there was no change, still having the problem. I tried going through IE and everything worked fine, so the problem seems to be with FF only. I tried on a different laptop in the house using FF, same issue. My fiance logged into the website from his work computer at work with no issues. I did it in safe mode with addons disabled, no change. I also just noticed when trying to go to the bank website, next to the web address I have the Triangle icon with the ! in the center. I clicked on it and can screen shot what it says if you need to see that.
What do I need to do to correct this issue. I have not had any problems in the past, it just seems to be an issue since the current update. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

The issue seems to be primary with Google. I have tried Chrome, Mozilla & Internet Explorer - all new and updated. Chrome & IE are 100% factory, no addons at all. Google is either not loading or only partially loading. Meaning only some of the graphics load. Gplus just goes wacky :P

These errors are primarily associated with Google. It seems to be "security" related? I have some things in my event viewer I do not understand under security. Though nothing looks horrible. For the last 2-4 days google & its services (Youtube, G+ and others) have been acting funky. I did general maleware scans - Several (nothing bad all removed). Is it a virus/hack? Did I do something wrong? Thoughts? On occasion other websites give me issues.

I've applied WPA-2 Personal encryption to my home wireless network which is recognised in Control Panel>Network and Internet>Manage Wireless Networks. When I re-start my laptop I have to manually connect to the same named, but still unsecured network in the notification area. When I do this a new network appears on my Manage Wireless Networks list of "<network name> 2", and if I repeat this process "<network name> 2 3". I am connected via this new, unsecured network. I have been networked with my father's computer for a couple of years now, so that we can both share my DSL connection through BellSouth. We are both running Windows 98 SE, and both on pretty much the same computer set up. I am using a Linksys Etherfast 10/100 5 Port Workgroup Switch Model EZXS55W and have a Alcatel Speed Touch Home Ethernet modem. Now, we haven't had any problems for the past couple of years, but now I can connect fine, but when we try to connect on his, we get the error message "PPP Establish Failed"

I've checked all the wires and connections, reset the computers and modem, tried different ports out of the router, uninstalled and reinstalled all of the connection software on his computer, and still nothing seems to work. The only difference I can come up with between our two systems is under the Services tab on the properties of our connection. On my Services tab it has a space for Server and Service, and everything is empty, but under his, there is a Server listing labeled "chrlncce71w" which seems to be a listing for BellSouth, though I'm not sure why it appears on his and not mine.

Any helpful tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated, as BellSouth won't provide any assistance since we're not paying them for home-networking.

Dear Tech Support Guy Experts:

Hello! Could you please help me? I am not sure whether this is a malware problem or simply an internet browser issue.

About a week or so ago, my Firefox automatically updated to Firefox 57, Quantum. I have Windows 7. I noticed that websites were loading more slowly.

Yesterday, I was surfing as usual and suddenly I got 2 blue screen crashes within a 2 or 3 hour period. I had to restart Windows each time. I ran Spybot as well as CC Cleaner (cleaning up the registry as well). I tried to do a system restore as well. Then I noticed that, although I can gain access to the internet (the firefox home page), I cannot gain access to any other website.

Each time I try to open a page, the new Firefox ball wags back and forth, like it's taunting me, and then finally the message "Secure Connection Failed" / "Problem loading page" comes up.

I tried to go through the troubleshooting steps on the firefox website, checking extentions and plugins. I ckecked my firewall and i do see MozillaFirefox listed.

I am not able to clear history, because for that I need internet connectivity or workable browser, right? I also cannot refresh firefox or download a new version of firefox. How does one install an internet browser when one does not have an internet browser?

Could this be Malware, do you think?

I have had both MalwareBytes (the paid version) running the whole time, as well as the free anti-virus program "Commodo". However... Read more

I have a little knowledge in troubleshooting a wireless connection but I really can't connect. My wireless utility card can detect a wireless connection but cannot establish an association. What's wrong with it? And by the way, i have a windows mobile and it can connect to my router wirelessly with no problem. So i guess, the problem is in my laptop. Lastly, i don't have any problem with wired connection.
Here are the things that I have done already but with no avail:

1. tried connecting to other wireless connection
2. tried updating the wirless card driver
3. tried disabling/enabling the wireless adapter
4. tried changing from wep to wpa..and to unsecured
5. tried powercylce - modem-router and my laptop
6. tried system restore on the first day i was not able to connect wirelessly

My observation or error i found in the event viewer log for wlan-tray

1.unable to gain access to user store
2. unable to set country code setting ...country code ''zz'' for unknown region

HOPE you can help me with this.

godbless too all!

I have noticed after the recent update to Firefox Version 37.0.1 I am getting this message when trying to log into some sites.

Secure Connection Failed

The connection to web4.secureinternetbank.com was interrupted while the page was loading.

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

Thanks!!

This problem is my Dad's and I have been trying to help him over the phone (we're 2000 miles apart) to no avail. I am hoping someone can offer better information than the tech support from Earthlink DSL.

He just signed up for the Earthlink DSL service in Biloxi MS. All equipment received fine - new NIC, new cabling, 2nd new DSL modem, Dell computer (relatively new - no problems) w/XP Home. All lights are flashing and showing connectivity as well as data flow between modem & phone jack & modem & PC. All filters are in place on phone lines. Everything is in order physically.

With a dynamic IP configuration he is receiving an IP address of 172.16.1.10/16 and a default gateway of 172.16.0.254. The DNS servers were set statically at the request of Earthlink support with the addy's of 207.69.188.185 & 186. Both of these servers are pingable from my computer. I had him copy down the dynamic address above and type it into the TCP/IP properties of his Local Area Connection. Today when implementing this there was a moment of hope: we used the ip address listed above with the indicated subnet but I changed the last octet of the DGwy to 1; had him then disable & re-enable the connection. Upon doing this something popped up from an unknown ip address asking if he wanted to connect offering a connect or cancel button. We hit connect and it started the Earthlink wizard which eventually failed. Now by virtue of the fact that an outside ip address was maki... Read more

Does this mean their site is down or is it mine?

Okay, so I have had an unbelievable amount of problems with my HP products over the years. For the one I'm about to describe and for may other problems I have had, I will NOT be purchasing any more HP products in the future. Customer support is absolutely terrible, and gently used products barely last a year, or fail shortly after the warranty ends. But, before I trash my current laptop, I'm going to see if anyone on these forums has any bit of information that could help.  So I put my HP stream 11 laptop away for about a month. In that time, all it did was stay in my drawer, at room temperature. It was never exposed to anything that could have done any damage. However, I pulled it out a month later only to find that the laptop shows no life whatsoever. The caps lock light blinks twice, then goes blank. This goes on for infinity.  I did tons of reasearch, so it is my understanding that somehow, the computer cannot establish a connection with the BIOS due to the battery draining. This is a terrible design if the computer must stay alive in order for it to maintain a connection with the BIOS.  Some people suggested a few documents, in which I am supposed to reset the computer by removing the battery, then holding the power button down etc. But the battery on this computer is internal and cannot be removed. According to the document, if this is the case, I'm supposed to check the user manual that came with it for specific reset i... Read more

First, I suddenly couldn't go to any internet sites. Then I Couldn't even connect to my ISP. After dialing and getting the "Checking user name and password" message, it says "The computer you're dialing cannot establish a dial up networking connection."
Other facts: 1) I know the user name and password are correct.
2) I do have the Windows networking connection software installed (I un-installed & re-installed them).
3) I tried re-installing the modem drivers with no effect.
4) I CAN connect using another computer on the same phone line.
5) I replaced the modem with an old one I had that used to work fine, but the same thing happens.
6) I checked all internet connection settings and they SEEM to be fine (limited knowledge).
7) I'm using Windows Millenium OS.

Re my elderly's dad's computer (I'm going to visit this weekend and see what I can do to resolve)....Dad says he's checked his separate (dedicated to his computer) phone line...that he has a dial tone, it's properly connected to the computer, etc. He gets the "connected to remote computer" message, then "verifying username and password", followed by "unable to establish connection".

Any suggestions as to where to begin when I visit him and attempt to help? Last time I checked his system, his homepage had been hijacked to "search the net" and I didn't have time to clean that one up. Maybe I should post that question to the malware/virus forum and ask if that could be the problem...or part of it?

I just put to gether a computer kit and installed Windows 98 OS and everything seems to work ok except the dial up networking.
After spending all day working on this, I am still no further ahead. It seems more of a dll problem than anything else but I don't know how to fix it. The actual error message reads "Cannot Load Remote Network Library (RASAPI.DLL) cannot find the file." I think this can only be one of two things, either the registry is pointing to the wrong file or the file is corrupted. I have downloaded an new RASAPI.DLL file from the internet but I dont know how to install it. Microsoft has a repair for this problem. http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...B;en-us;q174579
I have gone over and over this repair procedure. Renamed the existing RASAPI.DLL to RASAPI.old and then extracted the DLL from the Windows 98 disk but it still cant find it. Thats what leads me to believe that the registry is pointing in the wrong place to find this. I went into regedit and followed the path and all seems to be ok??
Any help will be appreciated.

Ok guys, here's my problem...

I was on my pc last night, everything was running fine, i was on msn, the internet and downloading music. I then went to refresh my browser and it came up with "Internet explorer cannot display the web page". At first i thought the router had gone down, but then i noticed that i was still on msn. I decided to click on 'Diagnose connection problems' - It came up with:

"xxx" is not set up to establish a connection on port "World Wide Web service (HTTP)" with this computer.

At this time it was late so i decided to leave it until tomorrow, when i tried it again, internet explorer still wouldn't work, but google chrome did, even though it hadn't the night before, msn is also still working fine.

I have googled this problem and tried the suggestions such as turning my firewall off, this did not help, any other help will be greatly appreciated.

cheers

Dear All,
Suddenly my VPN Connection does not work anymore - it's failing with error 807. Never had this problem before and did not change any network settings. The Remote Server is working fine, tried from other systems and did not have any problem to connect. Already tried ipconfig /flushdns and with firewall disabled. Having all Vista updates installed. Can't figure out the problem - urgent help needed...

A:Can't establish VPN Connection - Error 807

Hi,

Microsoft has explained this error code.

ERROR_VPN_DISCONNECT 807
The network connection between your computer and the VPN server was interrupted. This can be caused by a problem in the VPN transmission and is commonly the result of internet latency or simply that your VPN server has reached capacity.

I know that the issue does not occur on other computers. Please let us know if all of the other computers are Windows XP computers, or Windows Vista computers are included. Also please let us know if the computers are in a same domain or network.

I suggest that you temporary disable the anti-virus and firewall. Then, try to connect to the VPN again. If the issue persists, I suggest that you temporary bypass the router, and try to connect. If the issue does not occur, there are some settings on the router cause this issue.

Hi, welcome to TSF

Which version of Firefox are you using?

Can you connect with IE or any other browser, and does your email work?

Do you have this problem with all websites?

How are you connected to the internet? Modem, router, wired, wifi, etc?
