Installing MS Office 2010 to replace Office 2007

Q: Installing MS Office 2010 to replace Office 2007

I purcased MS OFiice 2010 Professional through the MS Home Use Program to replace MS Office 2007.

I received the link and product key via e-mail; I've ordered the CD's but they won't arrive for another 2 weeks.

Several posts indicated that I should uninstall the 2007 version, then install the 2010 version. If I do that, I won't have access to the e-mail for the download.

Should i just install 2010 over 2007, or wait for the CD's?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Wait for the DVD, or download the ISO then write it to DVD for installation. After installation, activate it with the licence key you purchased.

Good Evening Everyone,

I have a few questions concerning the Installation of 2010 Office. I know that I have to uninstall Office 2007. I have no clue on how to save or where to save my documents from Office 2007. The documents consist of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and a few various folders. Should I from the Start Menue click on Documents select all and copy. Where should I place this copy? Can It be left on my hard drive? After I install Office 2010 can I then copy the "Document File" and place in Documents. Will all the files end up in the proper place for their programs, Word files go to Word, Excel goes to Excel so on and so forth. Thank you so much for all your help and cooperation. It is greatly appreciated. I hope I described my situation correctly. I look forward to hearing from you.

A:2010 Office Professional Plus to Replace 2007 Office Small Business

But you don't have to uninstall Office 2007 to upgrade to 2010. That's the general rule as you can generally upgrade from lower SKUs to higher SKUs (Small Business to Pro Plus). As far as saving your documents, you can really save them wherever you like on your hard drive or on any CD or flash drive if you wish to do so. As far as file types, after 2010 is installed, they should all register properly for their programs so that Word documents open in Word, Excel Documents in Excel, etc.

Though if you have all of you documents already saved within "Documents" or "My Documents" or some other folder you've set aside and you want to uninstall 2007 before upgrading to 2010, the documents themselves will be retained when you uninstall, you just won't be able to really do much with them until you install 2010.

Hey guys, my wife is taking a course that requires her to install Office 2010. The issue is that she wants to preserve her current setup which includes Office 2003 and 2007 existing side-by-side on her Windows 7 (64-bit Home Edition) notebook.
The 2003/2007 setup is not one that she really wants to mess with (i.e., she has no interest whatsoever in uninstalling the two Office suites that she currently has), so ideally she would like to have Office 2010 installed temporarily (for the duration of her course) on the machine without interfering with the current setup.
What is the most painless way of doing this that does not involve shelling out for a second computer?

A:Installing Office 2010 on a machine with Office 2003/2007

Hi, welcome to the forum,
I had a similar situation here but in the end I opted out.

I removed both Office 2003 and 2007 and installed 2010, I then used virtual XP and installed 2003 there, 2007 and 2010 are too similar and the dll's will 'bite' along the way.

Even my 2003 and 2007 gave me issues after some time.

Have you checekd what the Microsoft Support site says?

I would remove one of the versions before installing the other, but it sounds like you already installed both. You may or may not have problems, but if you do you can always reinstall the activated one (2007) with your CD and activate it again.

Just bought a new laptop with Windows7 64bit installed-my first exposure to Windows7. I had Office 2007 installed on my old Dell 32 bit machine. I had also recently pruchased Office 2010 and installed that on my new machine.

Now, when I try to open those 32bit 2007 files with 64bt 2011, Iget an error message that "no picture file is available", or words to that effect. When I try to "open with", the only option displayed is "Microsoft Office" with an icon that looks like a picture file. When I try to browse to the proper office program(Excel, for example), there are none of teh Office suite programs displayed, only "Microsoft Office".

I can navigate seperately to the proper progran, Excel, etc., and drag the file into the application, and it opens, and all seems to work OK. I "save as" the proper application file, but it still will not open with double-click on the file name.

I have not seen this particular item in the forums and would appreciate very much some help in fixing this issue.

Thanks,

Grubby

I am running a copy of Office 2007 Ultimate that I got through an academic program. I need to install a key for Office 2010 on a new system. The cost for the key only is about $20 less than a 3 license traditional disk version, so I am considering upgrading every system.

However, I don't want to lose MS Access or MS Publisher to upgrade.

If I install Office 2010 Home & Student over Office 2007 Ultimate, will the extra programs from Office 2007 still be available to me? I know they will not be upgraded, but having a few different versions floating around doesn't bother me.

If your computer is relatively new, it may have come with a trial install of Office 2010 - check the Start menu, and the Programs & Features listing.
You may also have installed Viewers for things like PowerPoint 2010, which still require updates.

New PC has Windows 7 and the Starter version of Office 2010. Don't like it, don't like the "bullying" they use to get you to buy something that should come with the PC. Have downloaded Office 2007, but having difficulty dealing with different versions of docs. Converting them to 2007 is tedious. I'd like to scrap 2010, but don't want to lose anything.

I read previous thread about this. It said to be sure I had Service Pack 2 or 3 (both?) for Office 2007. I have Service Pack 1 for Windows 7, but cannot find any other service packs. How do I find them? Should I download a pack--which one and how?

I'm a university instructor and it would save me a great deal of time if I didn't have to monkey around with all the different versions of Word.

Thank you for any help you can give! I've been trying to figure this out on my own for some time, and know you guys are pretty good--you helped me out awhile back!

My laptop came preinstalled with the 2007 compatibility pack. I installed Office 2010 the day I bought the laptop. Have been running for many months and never noticed this: the default application to open docx files in the Microsoft Open XML Converter. The default for doc files is Microsoft Word. The only version of Word I have on my computer is 2010. If I remember correctly, the laptop came with a 2007 trial version but I deleted that - I still have a link to "reinstall MS Office trial." Whenever I click on a docx file, it opens in Word. I'm running Win 7 64-bit Home Premium but the 32-bit version of Office 2010.

Here's the strange part: if I set Word as the default application for opening docx files, I lose the Word icon and get what I believe is the Wordpad icon (the standard sheet of paper with corner turned over and lines on it) as my icon for docx files. The registry tells me that the defaulticon for docx files is Wordpad.exe. The icon for doc files is still the Word icon. Same thing happens if I uninstall the compatibility pack, which of course I don't even need, and then I also lose my Excel icon and am "iconless" for Excel files. If I try to set the default icon in the registry to the Word icon, I get a tiny Word icon in lieu of the normal Word icon.

I discovered all this by following this advice for being able to open Word docs stored on Microsoft's Skydrive:

far more problems with corrupted files in Office2010 than in Office2003
Further, when I send documents via email between computers I find that some .docx files arrive as .dat files. Does not ever happen when files are simply move across the network
xls files created in xl2003 run much faster in their native environment than when translated into xl2010 and run in that environment (benchmarks on the two computers suggest that they are about = re performance)

Originally, I had Office 2003 installed in my computer, & a trial version of 2007 that had already expired.
Today I installed a full version of Microsoft Office 2007, without removing any of the other two versions from my computer. I realized that it seemed to automatically remove the older version. I`m not bother about it not being there, as I got the new version, but I wonder if this is an automatic uninstalling that Office does, or if the version is still there but I can`t see it, as I would like to remove it properly if it`s still somewhere in my computer.
I checked in Control Panel & the only thing I can see is "Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007", the full version I just installed, & everything that come with it. No 2003 anywhere.
Does this mean 2003 is fully uninstalled?
Thanks a lot!!

A:My office 2003 disappeared after installing office 2007

You can check to see if it is fully uninstalled (I am sure that it is) by going to search and typing the name there. If it is still present, the program will appear.

Worst case scenario, just remanants will remain. Download and use ccleaner. If you run this software, you can be certain that 2003 has gone to software heaven.

If given the option not to use the reg cleaner inculuded in ccleaner take it. I and many others at the forum feel that reg cleaners do more harm than good.

Hi there

I've managed to get Office 2007 (PRO) to install and run perfectly on Linux (with Wine). Office 2010 seems absolutely to resist working with Linux. Office 2010 32 bit version gets a lot of the way but then fails with "Un-recoverable error". I nearly DIED when I loaded up my old Enterprise office 2007 and IT WORKED !!!.

I can't see any perceivable differences between Office 2007 and 2010 that would make any difference at all to even quite a sophisticated user.

My VBA macros in Excel all work -- I've been playing around with WPS (Kingsoft) office on Linux but OFFICE 2007 has things like OUTLOOK etc which are very useful and WPS office is still in "Alpha" stage.

I haven't had any glitches in Office 2007 so I can't actually see what's wrong if I stick with it -- in any case I doubt whether businesses even in 20 years time (will long be retired) will not be able to handle office 2007 documents.

(I still have the "Terminal access" Enterprise key of Office 2007 i.e multiple activations so it actually ACTIVATED OK too !!).

Cheers

You might want to uninstall BOTH of them, reboot your machine and the reinstall 2010.

I know that if you uninstall 2007 then you will have to do a repair on 2010.
BUT, before you do either of these, make sure you have your Office 2010 CD and keycode.

I am wondering how to install Office 2007 over Office XP.
Do I just install Office 2007? Should I uninstall Office XP first? after?
Will there be an impact on Outlook?
Running XP on a Toshiba Portege 4010 laptop

Just trying to avoid problems before I cause them.
Thank you.

A:Installing Office 2007 over Office XP

When you install Office 2007, it will find Office XP and ask if you want to replace it. If you say "no," it will install 2007 in a different directory, keeping both versions of Office with one exception. You cannot have more than one version of Outlook, so regardless of what you choose, Outlook will be replaced.

We are wanting to up-grade our current Office suite Office 2003 to either Office 2010 or Office 2013.  Our PC's are running Windows 7

I would just like to know what peoples opinions and advice is on this?

A:Up-grade from Office 2003 to Office 2010 or Office 2013

I can't speak to Office 2013, but I've done numerous upgrades to Office through 2010.  When you install the new version, you have the option to keep the old version or just replace it.  Starting with Office 2007 the familiar menu bar has been replaced with the ribbons which take a lot of getting used to for folks used to older versions.  There's a little program called UbitMenu that will add most of the menu bar functions back in the 2007 and 2010 versions that a lot of folks find helpful.  If you do opt to have two different versions installed at the same time, what happens is that when you switch from one to the other, it goes through a juggling act that takes a minute or so.  It's a bit of a pain, but if you need it, it could be a convenience.

Good luck.

If you decided to uninstall Office 2007 and then install Office 2003 would there be any hesitation on your part? I only ask this because uninstalling a program like Office 2007 can leave large amounts of registry information which may or may not impede a new computer?s performance. I was told to just uninstall like normal and run CCleaner to remove the registry entries that it finds. I haven?t decided to do this yet but if I do, any thoughts?

I have a Dell XPS M1210 laptop. I have been using Office 2007 on it and it has worked very well. Recently, Outlook stopped working, so after checking a number of possible fixes, I went to Control Pannel, Add Remove Programs and look for a "Fix Program" option. The message that came up was, "Install file corrupted". So I have been trying to remove the Office 2007 professional from my machine according to MS Article ID: 928218

I get to a point in the instructions where I am to delete the Office12 folder. When I try to do that I get the an Access Denied message referring to either MSOXMAMF.DLL and/or MSOHEVI.DLL. The message reads, "Access denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is nit currently in use.

Can anyone help with this? According to MS, if I try to reinstall a new copy of Office 2007 when there is a previous copy on the machine, the new copy will not over write the previous copy. All the configurations and setting, corrupt or not will remain.

Just replaced older pc with new HP - Vista OS. I want to transfer files that are in Office 2000 Pro to this machine, however, read about some quirks. Am I better off loading Office 2003 or 2007 on here to assure an easy transfer of the 2000 Pro files? Also, can I use the transfer cable to do so or should I use a jump drive? Thanks very much! Linda

A:Office 2003 or 2007 to replace 2000 Pro on Vista?

Normally 2003 or 2007 will have no problems using 2000 file types. There can sometimes be an occasional problem with one or two documents that can easily be recovered using a free online app some of which are located

http://www.download-up.com/free-computer-Word-recovery-software-downloads.html

In terms of transferring files I would use a Jump Drive - I find less errors and less chance of losing anything.

Hope this helps

I know I can do this as I have done it in the past a long time ago. Using the Find and Replace option add and extension to my sku numbers, such as:

SKU #

8686708052

I have a column of these sku's and want to add the extension .jpg to all of them at one time!

8686708052.jpg

I have done this in the past and can't remember what I did and it worked great instead of having to manually add the .jpg extension to every sku #!

Thanks!

A:office 2007 or 2010?

There are a few advantages to 2010. You can copy from one document, paste to another, and have a choice of which formatting to retain. I actually installed the 64-bit version, which was of course a mistake. Certain plug-ins will not work, such as EndNote 4. You can take screen shots directly from Word, new word art effects. etc. Nothing really major that would warrant me, personally, from upgrading. But I am entitled to the latest software where I work, so it's a no brainer. If you have the money to blow, get 2010. If you are conserving cash, stay with 2007. If you are broke, go with OpenOffice (which has now changed its name).

Hi!

I was just thinking if it is possible to have both Office 2007 and 2010 in the same OS?

Windows 7 in the PC have Office 2007. Now I want to upgrade to Office 2010. Firstly, is there any way to do it free? I mean I am not sure if I'll be ok with Office 2010 as much as I had been with Office 2007. So, obviously I'll prefer if I'm allowed to try it before..... something like a test drive.....

I was thinking of Office 2010 Starter edition..... Is it possible to have it along with the 2007 version?

Also, a friend of mine has recently got the Office 2010 Home and Business edition. Can I try it before buying?

Installed MS-Office Power-Point 2010 over Power-Point 2007. Problems with PP 2010 compatibility caused me to un-install PP 2010. From research on the web, I tried to reinstall PP 2007 by "Repair/Reinstall" MS-Office from the Control Panel. Setup ran for a very long time (7+ hrs) and hanging up about 2/3 through, so stopped I the process. Now MS Outlook occasionally turns to a blank orange screen and Windows Installer launches, trying to install a "Hybrid" 2007. If I reboot, Outlooks comes up OK and is usable. What do I need to do to: 1. Get Power-Point 2007 back and resolve the Outlook issue. I cannot find a reference to this anywhere - thank you, any help would be most appreciated.

Hello,

When I try to open a 2007 Word or Excel document I recieve as an attachment in Outlook 2003, I get the following message:
"This action is only valid for products that are currently installed". Office 2007 compatibility pack was installed and it still did not work.

I then uninstalled Office 2003, uninstalled the Office 2007 compatibility pack and then I ran CCleaner to clean up the registry. I updated my OS (currently has Windows XP SP3) with all updates, reinstalled Office 2003, installed Office 2003 SP 3 and then reinstalled the Office 2007 compatibility pack.

I still get the same message when I try to open an Office 2007 attachment in Outlook 2003.

OS is Windows XP SP3 fully updated
Office 2003 SP 3 fully updated

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any hel on this issue.

Sorry Jonesnewton, The process to upgrade to office 2010 is to buy a new copy of Office 2010. I don't believe that MS has a cheap upgrade.

You can upgrade if your a student or teacher with the special version for students/teachers. Or they also have a military version that is only sold in military exchanges.

Microsoft has accidentally posted details about a promotion it will be running for those who buy Office 2007 a few months before and after the release of Office 2010 in June 2010. It is called the "Microsoft Office 2010 Technology Guarantee Program," though Redmond is not yet ready to announce it. "Microsoft has not disclosed an Office 2010 Technology Guarantee," a Microsoft spokesperson told Ars. "We have no further comment at this time."

hello, if i upgrade to win10, will i lose office 2010? is it possible to reclaim license on new platform or do i have to buy new version of office? thanks

A:win 10 upgrade from 2007 and office 2010

If you are doing an in-place upgrade from Windows 7/8 to Windows 10 you won't lose any applications. If an application is not compatible with Windows 10 you'll be notified. Office will be fine.

As with any upgrade, backup any important data first.
