Preferred Solution: Firefox, Ie7 And Pinball Game, Firefox.exe And Internet Explorer.exe.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I have a computer that has Firefox and Internet Explorer installed (latest updates) on Windows XP Pro and everytime I launch one of them my computer freezes. It does not display an error of any kind. I cannot do anything. Although I can move my mouse anywhere. I've ran programs Ashampoo, PC Checkup and a Register clean up program. I don't know if those are any good but apperantly they do not do anything to fix my issue. I know I have access to the internet because I can connect to my messenger.

Yesterday I re-installed Firefox (trying my last way of fixing this issue) and after I finished installing it, it launched to its default website. I then closed the browser, I launched it again to recheck and my computer froze up again.

Please help me

Thank you

my OS: XP pro

I have been using Firefox as my internet browser, yet Internet Explorer still pops up with advertisements from several companies or AOL searches for products (such as: www.searchfeed.com, c5.zedo.com/jsc/c5/ff2.html?n=377;c=99;s=36;d=27;w=1024;h=768, www.pcsecurityshield.com/lp/shield-deluxe-5.aspx?trk=WTK&affid=541, url.adtrgt.com, and other companies). These seem to pop up every few minutes.

My computer's desktop image was changed to a blue screen with a yellow box that read "Virus detected, please download an adware remover" and as a computer administrator (on our multi-user computer) i had privileges such as removing programs and changing my desktop settings. About the same time as the pop ups started occurring, I lost my administrative privileges. *note, this problem has been solved, but i thought that it may be relevant*

I asked a friend of mine to help me, and he told me to run several programs: SpyBot S&D, Spy-Ad exterminator, and HijackThis. While these programs did detect many infected files and what not, my problem didn't go away (completely), so i did a system restore and the only things that remained were the pop ups that opened in Internet Explorer.

Hello to everybody in this forum.
Just a dumb question from me, again to start the new year.
Should/would a site look exactly the same whether using FF or IE?
I am obviously asking as I have found a site which i have to log into,
where there is a difference between the Two?
Not life threating, but would appreciate any feedback.
Thank-you

A:Firefox and Internet Explorer

The site obviously looks the same on both FF & IE.
Difference being when i hit the settings tab, selecting
privacy, on IE, I get the option to change my password,
Whereas, that same page appears different on FF,
Could it be a setup/settings issue that i can adjust?

A:Internet Explorer VS. Firefox

I think googling firefox vs. ie would be a start.

Personally I use firefox, I used to use ie.
Not everything works in firefox(most normal webpages do), for example sites that use active x don't work, like windows update, so you still need to keep ie around even if it isn't the main browser. I really can't stand using ie anymore after using firefox, mainly because of tab browsing, although you can achieve a similar effect by just opening ie several times, or installing a browser add on like maxthon.

But IMO, Firefox is way better, I love tabs, and the find as you type thing is nice too, plus there are extensions that let you add features that you like, and themes to change the look.

Hey everyone:

I'm running Windows XP and I'd like to update my browser to the easiest yet most secure application. I'm currently running Internet Explorer, so I'm leaning towards IE8. However, i've heard lots of rumors about IE...that it's not secure, that there are bugs with the new IE8. With firefox, friends have told me that it isn't as easy to navigate but is safer to use than IE.

If anyone out there can tell me the pros and cons with using IE vs. Firefox I'd truly appreciate it. Also, if there's anyone out there that's having serious problems with IE8 and wouldn't suggest, please let me know! I've seen the postings with being unable to access certain websites using IE8 like pogo.com (a site that I love to use!)

Thanks in advance guys

A:Internet Explorer 8 vs. Firefox

Which you prefer is really a matter of personal preference. In no particular order, here is a list of reasons to prefer Firefox.
1. It is not a MS product.
2. It is not a part of the Windows Operating System.
3. Security patches and system enhancements are frequent and timely.
4. With the use of add-ons, you can tailor your browser to meet very individual needs.
5. It is not a MS product.
6. It loads (at least for me) pages much faster than IE.
7. It includes a spell-check function for Internet entries ( I am an forum addict).
8. Bookmarks are easy to organise and are automatically backed up.
9. Personal preferences are kept in separate files, so you can reinstall Firefox without loosing them.
10. It is not a MS product.

Last week my computer had a virus that I successfully removed using Malwarebytes. Since then I have been unable to access the internet using my default browser Google Chrome (instead I receive a 'This Webpage is not available.' message with the error: Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): Unknown error.

Or with internet explorer where the following message is received: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

Yet it works fine with Firefox. I then tried signing in via Windows Live Messenger where it failed and upon doing the connection troubleshooter received an exclamation mark next to the proxy and key ports sections.

Is there any way for me to fix it so that I can have normal internet access? One major problem right now is that I cannot even upload pictures via Photobucket or even e-mail where Google Chrome gives the message: Attachment failed. This may be due to a proxy or firewall.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i am currently running IE 6.0 but i did have IE7.0 & Firefox i would like to know the pros and cons of each and which one people prefer

A:Internet Explorer 7.0 Or Mozilla Firefox

Never used IE7.Have 6 installed.I don't like anything about IE.I use Firefox. It's a more secure browser than Internet Explorer, because it doesn't use ActiveX controls, but Java applets instead. Also, if a security flaw is discovered (which doesn't happen often), it's usually fixed within a few days, as opposed to the months you have to wait for an Internet Explorer security patchIn most instances, you will find Firefox to be a faster browser than IE, especially if you employ pipelining.Firefox Web Browser - PipeliningThe reason it's faster is because Firefox doesn't come pre-loaded with a bunch of features you don't need. You can run Firefox as lean, or as bloated as you want with the use of extensions, which allow you to customize it the way you want it, not the way someone else thinks it should be.Enhancing Firefox with Browser ExtensionsExtensionsNOTE:When adding extensions I'd advise adding one at a time, try it for a couple of days, and if no problems arise, add another.Sometimes extensions have been known to cause problems, due to incompatibility's, or corrupt downloads. If you install them one at a time, and test it, it's easier to troubleshoot if one starts causing problems.I've been using Firefox for several years (since it was known as Firebird), and wouldn't go back to IE for any reason.I think once you get used to using it, you'll feel the same way.Give it a try, you have nothing to lose.If you don't like it, just uninstall it, that easy. You can find other alternati... Hi guys and gals,

Thanks again to those of you who helped me out with my email problem. I sit at my computer and continuously click on my "send/receive tab" not that I'm getting any mail but it feels so good to know I'm getting through.

I’ve been using Internet Explorer for years but I heard that Netscape Firefox is a better and safer browser. Anyone have any thoughts on this or is it all hype?

Firstly i would like to say what a great site this is, and i only wish i found it about a year ago!!

Here is the story!!

I initally had Norton as my internet security, but i got plagued with viruses, and the laptop ended up being almost unusable as it became that slow!

Needless to say Norton got the sack!, i now have Trend Micro which i am quiet happy with...however

I think that when i had the virus with Norton, it must have taken some system files away, as the pc has slow since.

Now, i think i have removed all viruses now, but their seems to be a problem with things running in the background. Most of the time "idle system processes" are taking up 85% of the CPU!... (so bad that when i type, i have to type really really slowly or the text just doesnt appear on screen in the order i want them...)

Since installing Firefox, i have found that Explorer is still running in the background... (is this needed?), as internet connection is almost impossible until i close it down... But then i cannot access any other programs, as everything dissapears from the screen.

Please help, as this computer is making me insane..

many thanks in advance

Scott

A:Internet explorer after installing Firefox!

System Idle processes are nothing to worry about. Normally it is 100%- the other running processes. It seems youre not too familiar with windows running processes. explorer.exe and iexplorer.exe are two very different processes. i'll put it in laymans terms. Iexplorer.exe is the file process for internet explorer, while Explorer.exe is the file that enables everything you see except for the background. Its the running process for windows explorer, that gives the display. Ending it WILL make the screen go blank except for the background image.

First, what operating system are you using?

Second, what is taking up the remainder of the processor? The other 15% odd. arrange them in descending order of CPU usage and check whats running. If its running slow, it sounds like theres still something in the system. a background process.

Third, in task manager, go to performance and see the ram usage. Is it unusually high?

Fourth get something like TuneUp Utilities 2008. It has a process manager built in, or you could use EF Process Manager. it will show you tasks that are hidden from Task manager. heres a link http://www.efsoftware.com/pm/e.htm.

Like i said, theres probably a background process thats causing the system to slow down.

I would not know whether they are classed as adware, spyware or whateverware and I don't know anything about software to combat this problem. This problem of being redirected started with a Malware infection. I was browsing the Internet (using Firefox 3.5.6) for game downloads, after following a link to a website my computer took a pretty hard hit. I never clicked on anything to choose a download, and was leaving the site to check out other leads. Windows alerts came up telling me my Firewall had been shut off, and next my antivirus (Symantec Antivirus) was shut off. I was totally taken off guard and had no idea yet what was taking place. The next thing was I see a notice about "downloads completed" and "Media Pass" was being installed on my computer. At this point Symantec is struggling and popping warnings that I have been infected with "Downloader and Trojan.Vundo". The first thing I do is disconnect from the Internet. Symantec wants me to reboot to remove the risk, I do this but keep getting reinfected. I decide to go to "Safe Mode" to work from there. My computer won't go into "Safe Mode", I'm getting a stop error BSOD. I don't know if this is due to the virus or a problem that I had and was unaware of. From this point I leave this computer off the Internet and get on a spare computer looking for answers. I download Malwarebytes and attempt to install but the virus won't let me finish. I find out about using the Malwarebytes with a renamed executable and download that. I also read to use "Rkill" first and do that. Now I have been able... Read more

A:Firefox & Internet Explorer Being Redirected

I am updating my previous post for those of you who may be interested in my experience. I am in the process of reformatting my infected computer; what a trip it has been. It was difficult for me to believe that my computer took such a beating as I am faithful at keeping things up to date. Before I began the reformat this was the final trigger for me:
I decided to run another online scan, this time I chose Kaspersky. It was very thorough, about 2 hours in, it was still only at around 30%. It had found a few things but I was leaving it alone to finish before reading its findings. Up comes a window saying something like "Generic host process for Win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close" I read the details but it's a language I don't understand. I ignored it knowing it was probably something to do with my infection and I could see that my computer was still being scanned. Shortly afterwards up pops another window, "System shutdown NT Authority System, DCOM server process launcher service terminated unexpectedly". Oh yeah, my computer shut itself down. I made one more attempt to scan online with Kaspersky but this time I was only on for a minute or so before it shut down.
That was enough for me, my computer was out of my control and I believe I could not take any chances with this creepy thing that was hiding inside. I have changed my passwords to be on the safe side and hope I never run across anything like this again.

A:Internet Explorer And Firefox Browsers

I don't use FF. But in Opera, for instance, there is a setting "Make this my default browser", so try to find something similar in FF.

That said, some applications are so bundled with IE that IE must run when you try to use them. Your IM might be one of those.

You might also try telling the site you're visiting to see your browser as being FF rather than IE. Something along these lines should be in site preferences perhaps.

Hi guys,

I started noticing a problem with one of my PCs where at first a certain folder in My Documents started closing at random and it would pop up with an error message with something about Dr. Watson program error message (Hope that rings a few bells.) A few restarts later, I was unable to access Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer. Every time I clicked on the icons, it would give error message: "This file may have been moved or your account may not have permission to access this file."

I went into Safe Mode and ran a full system scan using AVG but could not find anything. I also tried the Avast Worm Cleaner tool but did not find anything. Funny thing is that in Safe Mode, I am able to use Firefox or Internet Explorer (using the same account). I also tried installing and running Trojan Remover which found an exe file in the System directory that seemed suspicious but after removing it, and running the computer in normal mode, the issue persists. In Normal mode, if I right click on FireFox and "run as" I can choose the account, I choose myself again and it seemed to open and work for me. That was yesterday.

Now, I am unable to access the internet even in Safe Mode now.

Hello,

The last little while my computer has been acting weird.
whenever i set my homepage or anything..
when i restart my computer, it changes my homepage to this:
http://www.virushelpzone.com/

it gets very irritating.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
