When i just click on the Pinball game, it open then closes.

I am not sure if this is Malware or a threat to the computer, but maybe you guys here may know if it is or not.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey everyone:

I'm running Windows XP and I'd like to update my browser to the easiest yet most secure application. I'm currently running Internet Explorer, so I'm leaning towards IE8. However, i've heard lots of rumors about IE...that it's not secure, that there are bugs with the new IE8. With firefox, friends have told me that it isn't as easy to navigate but is safer to use than IE.

If anyone out there can tell me the pros and cons with using IE vs. Firefox I'd truly appreciate it. Also, if there's anyone out there that's having serious problems with IE8 and wouldn't suggest, please let me know! I've seen the postings with being unable to access certain websites using IE8 like pogo.com (a site that I love to use!)

Thanks in advance guys

A:Internet Explorer 8 vs. Firefox

Which you prefer is really a matter of personal preference. In no particular order, here is a list of reasons to prefer Firefox.
1. It is not a MS product.
2. It is not a part of the Windows Operating System.
3. Security patches and system enhancements are frequent and timely.
4. With the use of add-ons, you can tailor your browser to meet very individual needs.
5. It is not a MS product.
6. It loads (at least for me) pages much faster than IE.
7. It includes a spell-check function for Internet entries ( I am an forum addict).
8. Bookmarks are easy to organise and are automatically backed up.
9. Personal preferences are kept in separate files, so you can reinstall Firefox without loosing them.
10. It is not a MS product.

John

A:Internet Explorer VS. Firefox

I think googling firefox vs. ie would be a start.

Personally I use firefox, I used to use ie.
Not everything works in firefox(most normal webpages do), for example sites that use active x don't work, like windows update, so you still need to keep ie around even if it isn't the main browser. I really can't stand using ie anymore after using firefox, mainly because of tab browsing, although you can achieve a similar effect by just opening ie several times, or installing a browser add on like maxthon.

But IMO, Firefox is way better, I love tabs, and the find as you type thing is nice too, plus there are extensions that let you add features that you like, and themes to change the look.

Hello, I have a computer that has Firefox and Internet Explorer installed (latest updates) on Windows XP Pro and everytime I launch one of them my computer freezes. It does not display an error of any kind. I cannot do anything. Although I can move my mouse anywhere. I've ran programs Ashampoo, PC Checkup and a Register clean up program. I don't know if those are any good but apperantly they do not do anything to fix my issue. I know I have access to the internet because I can connect to my messenger.

Yesterday I re-installed Firefox (trying my last way of fixing this issue) and after I finished installing it, it launched to its default website. I then closed the browser, I launched it again to recheck and my computer froze up again.

I have been using Firefox as my internet browser, yet Internet Explorer still pops up with advertisements from several companies or AOL searches for products (such as: www.searchfeed.com, c5.zedo.com/jsc/c5/ff2.html?n=377;c=99;s=36;d=27;w=1024;h=768, www.pcsecurityshield.com/lp/shield-deluxe-5.aspx?trk=WTK&affid=541, url.adtrgt.com, and other companies). These seem to pop up every few minutes.

My computer's desktop image was changed to a blue screen with a yellow box that read "Virus detected, please download an adware remover" and as a computer administrator (on our multi-user computer) i had privileges such as removing programs and changing my desktop settings. About the same time as the pop ups started occurring, I lost my administrative privileges. *note, this problem has been solved, but i thought that it may be relevant*

I asked a friend of mine to help me, and he told me to run several programs: SpyBot S&D, Spy-Ad exterminator, and HijackThis. While these programs did detect many infected files and what not, my problem didn't go away (completely), so i did a system restore and the only things that remained were the pop ups that opened in Internet Explorer.

Hello to everybody in this forum.
Just a dumb question from me, again to start the new year.
Should/would a site look exactly the same whether using FF or IE?
I am obviously asking as I have found a site which i have to log into,
where there is a difference between the Two?
Not life threating, but would appreciate any feedback.
Thank-you

A:Firefox and Internet Explorer

The site obviously looks the same on both FF & IE.
Difference being when i hit the settings tab, selecting
privacy, on IE, I get the option to change my password,
Whereas, that same page appears different on FF,
Could it be a setup/settings issue that i can adjust?

Last week my computer had a virus that I successfully removed using Malwarebytes. Since then I have been unable to access the internet using my default browser Google Chrome (instead I receive a 'This Webpage is not available.' message with the error: Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): Unknown error.

Or with internet explorer where the following message is received: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

Yet it works fine with Firefox. I then tried signing in via Windows Live Messenger where it failed and upon doing the connection troubleshooter received an exclamation mark next to the proxy and key ports sections.

Is there any way for me to fix it so that I can have normal internet access? One major problem right now is that I cannot even upload pictures via Photobucket or even e-mail where Google Chrome gives the message: Attachment failed. This may be due to a proxy or firewall.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys,

I started noticing a problem with one of my PCs where at first a certain folder in My Documents started closing at random and it would pop up with an error message with something about Dr. Watson program error message (Hope that rings a few bells.) A few restarts later, I was unable to access Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer. Every time I clicked on the icons, it would give error message: "This file may have been moved or your account may not have permission to access this file."

I went into Safe Mode and ran a full system scan using AVG but could not find anything. I also tried the Avast Worm Cleaner tool but did not find anything. Funny thing is that in Safe Mode, I am able to use Firefox or Internet Explorer (using the same account). I also tried installing and running Trojan Remover which found an exe file in the System directory that seemed suspicious but after removing it, and running the computer in normal mode, the issue persists. In Normal mode, if I right click on FireFox and "run as" I can choose the account, I choose myself again and it seemed to open and work for me. That was yesterday.

Now, I am unable to access the internet even in Safe Mode now.
Here is my Hijack This file.

I’ve been using Internet Explorer for years but I heard that Netscape Firefox is a better and safer browser. Anyone have any thoughts on this or is it all hype?

Quote:

Microsoft has figured out how to get websites to stop treating Internet Explorer like a second-class web browser: it?s going to disguise itself as Firefox. A simple tweak to the Internet Explorer 11 user agent string has been spotted, thanks to an early build of Windows Blue leaking to the web over the weekend.

The switch takes place in the first segment of the string. Right after the Mozilla/5.0 you?ll notice IE 11.0. In Internet Explorer 10, the same space is occupied by compatible; MSIE 10.0. At the end of the string, Microsoft has also tacked on the like Gecko statement. It?s a subtle change, but it?s all that?s required to convince websites that Microsoft isn?t a browser that requires special treatment. If a website is sniffing user agents before serving up customized code, these tweaks essentially tell it ?this is a Gecko-powered browser, like Mozilla Firefox.?

It sounds like you need to reset IE as your default browser. Open up internet explorer and and under the 'TOOLS' menu you with find 'Internet Options'.

Under the Internet Options window, choose the 'Programs' tab.

Towards the bottom you will see a button that says 'Make default'. That will revert IE6 back to being your default browser. To prevent this from happening in the future, also check the box that says 'Tell me if IE is not the default browser'.

Everytime i open internet explorer it freezes and the message "internet explorer has stopped". I installed firefox, but that also has the same problem.

have tried..
-reset internet, clear history/cookies
-open IE with no addons
-updating IE
-AVG virus and rootkit scan
-super antispyware scan
-system restore
-msconfig - disabled all services and startup
-ipconfig /flushdns
- Sfc /scan
-boot labtop in safe mode with networking, IE actaully stays open for about 10-20seconds, but then the message "internet explorer has stopped working" still appears

I'v tried everything i could think of, but nothing has worked so far...
If anyone knows a possible solution to this problem please help, and thank you in advance.

Hi:

I don't know what the heck is going on but during the last week or so neither Internet explorer nor Firefox have been working. What I mean is that when I click on the shortcuts they don't/won't open.

Actually that isn't right, Firefox did work in Safe Mode but when I went to the normal mode it wan't working. Then when I went back to Safe Mode it stopped working. As for Internet Explorer browser, it does open halfway but then it's only a blank page where you would normally see the homepage or that error message about checking your connection.

I have uninstalled an re-installed numerous times but to no avail and it's driving me crazy!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The problems started when I tried to update Firefox. Firefox installed, with no indication of a problem. I then went to run it and noticed that all the links and shortcuts to it had disappeared. I opened IE to download it again and found that while it goes through all the motions of downloading and installing, the Mozilla folder has nothing executable inside of it. (Yes, all of those folders are empty.)I've also tried downloading Chrome with the same results.I'm also finding that anything I install instantly vanishes. Though, vanishes isn't really the right word- more like was never there in the first place.I cannot do a system restore.I cannot delete certain files.I can only run IE.I cannot open many of my game files.I have run Spybot, but my computer will not quarintine the files.I have a hijack this log if this will help you to help me.I know that the rule is one problem per post, but I'm pretty sure all of these problems have the same origin.Edit: Moved topic from Vista to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Hello, sherrie, I fel with this infection that yes the HJT log is needed along with DDS and GMER if you can provide them. This may help you see your files. Please download the following program to your desktop:Unhide.exe Once the program has been downloaded, double-click on the Unhide.exe icon on your desktop and allow the program to run. This program will remove the +H, or hidden, attribute from all the files on your hard drives. If there are any files that were purposely hidden by you, you will need to hide them again after this tool is run. Please go here....Preparation Guide ,do steps 6 - 9.Create a DDS log and post it in the new topic explained in step 9,which is here Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs and not in this topic, thanks. If Gmer won't run, skip it and move on.Don't forhet your HJT>Let me know if that went well.

Hello. I hope that this is in the right place.

Just recently, in fact in the past 3 days, both Internet Explorer and Firefox lock up when I try to download anything on my computer. Firefox won't even open up the Downloads window, and in fact, when you open it up using Ctrl-J, it locks up. Windows Explorer will, however, open files from the internet (like installation files and such) but won't save anything. Any idea why that would happen to both programs at once?

Since earlier today I have been getting Internet Explorer popups mostly for games and gambling. One of them appeared to be promoting AVG which I have. The popups cannot be closed except by Windows Task Manager (control alt delete). Within a session the popups return after they have been closed. I would not know whether they are classed as adware, spyware or whateverware and I don't know anything about software to combat this problem. I have AVG and I ran it but the popups still come back and I am not even sure if the AVG window I see is not itself some kind of nastyware.
