Mediafire and Zippyshare redirecting in Mozilla and Opera

Q: Mediafire and Zippyshare redirecting in Mozilla and Opera

From few weeks Mediafire and Zipyshare redirect me to ad pages when downloading. I have AdBlock+ on both browsers, and also NoScript in Mozilla. Yet I can't prevent redirecting. Any suggestions? Many thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you are tired of downloading patches for I.E. and you want something better you can download 2 different free browsers that sre superior to I.E. (95% of all users use I.E. so microsoft does not have motivation to improve it)
Opera 7.1 http://www.opera.com/
Is the superior browser between it and Mozilla
Mozilla is a open source of netscape(microsofts major rival)
which is a good program and a heck of alot better than I.E.!
But Opera 7.1 has more features: you can also save groups of pages in browsing sessions-very handy in research
and if you prefer using keyboard shortcuts instead of mousing. Opera provides a keyboard command for every conceivable function. Opera supports mouse gestures for frequently used browser functions. With gestures enabled, you can hold the right button and move the mouse slightly to the left to return to the previous page.
Opera has very good over all statistics and reliablity and both Mozilla and Opera are a breath of fresh air of I.E. and it's unstoppable security updates ect.

Just a thought!

I was reading through the forums and noticed that someone had asked which of these were better. Either is good but be sure not to use IE was one of the replies they recieved back. Does that mean if I have one of them on my PC, that I need to uninstall my IE??
I still have it on my PC but that might be some of the problem that I am having.
Thanks

A:Mozilla or Opera

No need to mess with IE. If you don't use it, it won't cause any problems. And I think you may still need to use IE to get to Windows Update.
I use IE and Firefox both and haven't had problems with either one. Could be you have an infection of some sort in your system.

OK I love Mozilla as a browser for unknown websites. It doesn't recognize exe's etc. and protects me from most trojans, hijacks and spyware.

But it has a bug when it comes to saving files.

Does Opera have the same security features?

Is it as good or better? If not anyone got one that is?

A:Is Opera As Good As Mozilla?

I use only Opera simply because I find that is the best browser...

Hi TechGuyS,
I have tried downloading Rocked Dock today, and it seems that when I press download, it asks to 'save as' and place to save to.
On that window, my browser(s) get to 'not responding' and only thing I can do is Alt+F4.

Last 3 days, I have big problems with viruses and other stuff, so maybe that is the problem?

Thnx,

Hello everyone,
I haan issue before about product key got it solved, but didnt do the laptop clean. I know maybe thats why im having so many problems now, but I have no ack up right now and it was my fault for resetting the laptop back to a restore point back in ocotber when it wasnt working. For those who dont know , I told it to a repair center, they wiped it and installed a trialversion of windows 7 I managed to get my product key now, so Im really not sure why I have all these viruses pop up msgs, Ive been using all the reccomended security protections.
I would like to ask if anyone can help me ?
Problem 1- I cant open any web browsers at all, Im typing this msg from realplayer. But even when I type in an address bar I cant access the internet through there either, for some reason only through real player.
Mozilla wont open at all, opera tries to open a msg manges to pop saying 'opera in not default browser' etc, but goes after litrelly 2 seconds. I just tried openening IE it opnened, then froze , than crashed now it wont open at all.
Opera wont let me delete it, my broiwesers were working fine since I dl opera its been maybe 1-2 weeks since than so how can it be that.

Hello Ayesha, perhaps I might be of some assistance.

First question, do you have a complete windows installation CD that you could use to reinstall, if you were interested?

Next, do you own or know someone who would lend you their computer for downloads, in the event that you could save files to a USB stick to install on the computer that is acting up?

Now, if you are using CCleaner and do not understand it completely, please refrain from using it. It is a registry cleaner, and frankly not needed if you are looking to "increase speed" on windows 7. It has a potential (lower than some) to royally mess things up for you. It cleans out registry entries, and that can be very dangerous as it can in no way completely understand your computer and all its software. It lowers stability and barely, if at all, increases speed. Without knowledge of the registry, it can be used to delete something you may actually need, wherein lies the danger.

Can you do a full scan with Malwarebytes to attempt to find anything? It is preferable that it be updated first, but if it cannot be, then make do with what you have.

Avast! is a poor quality antivirus, I would recommend another when possible. But don't uninstall it! You will need a tool to remove it from your computer as it could potentially leave behind traces of its program.

Would it be possible to download "revo uninstaller" free? If not, we can use Windows, but this program can remove some things a lot better ... Read more

Are you sure they have permission from your firewall ?

Have you tried emptying caches, histories, cookies etc ?

Maybe fully uninstalling(delete folder as well),then reinstalling ?

I'd like to share that using alternate browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Opera 7 are less vulnerable than Internet Explorer to adware, spyware, and security exploits. I use Internet Explorer and while it remains my default browser, so that key dependant Windows functions continue to work well. There are also a few sites that will only work with IE. However, I use Firefox and Opera for most of my browsing needs. Thus, I wanted to share with the members, that you can have all 3 running simultaneously with ZERO issues (unless you're on a very old PC with limited RAM). For example, I use Opera 7 with built-in tabular browsing for most forum postings. I use Mozilla Firefox for all email and most general browsing. I also use IE on most trusted sites and for secure transactional sites requiring IE. While some folks are zealous on uninstalling IE or using one browser over the other, I personally like using the best qualities of all three. Below are some articles I've written on this in the past for more information.CURRENT VERSIONShttp://www.mozilla.org/http://www.opera.com/download/Mozilla Firefox 0.8+ latest betahttp://www.myitforum.com/forums/tm.asp?m=48578Opera 7.50 latest preview version (beta)http://www.myitforum.com/forums/tm.asp?m=49157Mozilla and Opera as complementary Browsershttp://www.myitforum.com/forums/tm.asp?m=22544

A:Mozilla Firefox and Opera 7 complementary browsers

I also use Mozilla.org, but it is my default browser. I have found it faster, with more features I use (tabbed browsing, cookie manager.etc) than IE, and it has virtually eliminated any annoying pop-ups. Being open source, Mozilla adds new features and enhancements about once every quarter;while IE has not changed in a long time,a new release of Mozilla is due very soon. My own feeling is that Mozilla is a lot more secure than IE---this may be the result of its relative small user base or of its being open source.

This being said, it is still necessary to retain IE, since it is needed by the Windows Operating System---and therefore cannot be uninstalled---and some sites, most notably those by MS, only work with IE. Because of all the hooks between IE and Windows, even if you do not use IE, it is imperative that all IE critical security updates be installed.

Regards to all,
John

You can use these free tools to see if they find anything,
Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).
Uncheck the box to Activate the Free trial from the final install options,
Also use the Custom scan option not the Threat scan,
Select the drive to scan usually C,
If your really infected check the box to scan for Rootkits = this scan option will take several hours to complete,
Never use your machine while scans are running for best results,

I have a Toshiba Laptop that runs Windows Vista.I recently had the big problem of my computer screen going black and wasn't able to load anything. It all started when I tried purchasing tickets on Fandango. My Avast! started going crazy with Trojan pop ups and then all of a sudden "Spware Doctor" had downloaded itself to my computer. With that came the black screen. I would log in to my windows account, but once I logged in the screen was completely pitch black. I could open up the Task Manager, but when I would try running Internet Explorer a message would pop up saying the file could not be opened because it contained a virus. I took it to get repaired. It loads fine now, but the problem now is Internet Explorer and Mozilla keeps redirecting me to random websites on google. Both programs are running slow. Im very frustrated Ive tried everything! Malwarebytes isnt catching any problems, but Avast! keeps bringing up these three "threats":C:\Windows\explorer.exeC:\Windows\System32\wininit.exeC:\Windows\explorer.exeWhy there are two explorer.exe I dont know. When I try moving or repairing the threats it keeps saying "error:read only file". I dont know what to do anymore! I had gotten rid of the redirecting virus before and didnt have it for a few months. recently, my laptop (an old E-machine running Windows XP) picked up the vile "windowssafemode" virus. after malwarebytes and some simple fiddling with registry values proved futile, i performed a system restore to a recovery point dating a couple of days prior to when the computer started showing symptoms, then i ran malwarebytes once more. this rid me of the annoying false error/alert messages that are the calling cards of this virus.

now, however, i've come to find that both of my browsers automatically redirect me to bogus "anti-spyware" pages and the like whenever i click on links (i should note that i am able to get around such redirects by manually typing addresses into the browsers' address bars), and that strange audio files, none of which i put on the laptop, will play at random, even if my comp is sitting idle.

i have tried rerunning malwarebytes and also used avast! and ad-aware, all of which picked up suspicious and infected files. while the random audio seems to have abated slightly, i don't seem to have gotten rid of the malware.

there is a thread elsewhere on this site that describes my experience to a T: http://forums.techguy.org/virus-other-malware-removal/974131-nasty-ie-firefox-browser-redirect.html

however, i decided to start a new thread in hopes that someone could walk me through a clean-up process and review the specific logs that my own computer spits out to help ensure that i've completely killed all the re... Read more

Hello all,

Let me begin by saying I am not as learned as many of your posters.
I have run into a malware or virus that redirects my mozilla homepage to the following address:

http:///?fr=fp-ushdl

Everything I have found on the net so far points to a trojan BHO.H infection.
I am running Micrsoft Security Essentials as it came with Windows 7 and I cannot seem to find any other antivirus that will play well with MSE. When I run a scan with MSE it does not seem to find any viruses. I read the must read post in the forum directing me to download and install Hijackthis and DDS but I am concerned about doing this with MSE, and quite frankly it may well be beyond my ability to figure out.

I was wondering if there is any antivirus that will work with MSE and may be able to remove this virus?

If not does anyone have any ideas for a mostly novice user to rid my pc of this threat?

I am trying to avoid taking the pc to the shop as my daughter needs it daily for school work.

Thanks in advance for any advice and have a great day!

another question: that I have tried to dolwnload malware samples from the virus exchange section but it looks that all zippyshare links doesn't open and I don't know why ! any help ?

A:Large malware data + zippyshare

Hello

As regards the first question, it depends on whether you want a updated malware pack or not.
Here: ytisf/theZoo GitHub, It is a file that contains many old malware but that are great to analyze.
If you want fresh malware, I recommend you to download them from malwr.com (you must login).
With a little patience you can create a good collection of new malware.

Zippyshare does not open? Sometimes the web protection by some antivirus programs (Webroot for example) blocks as malicious Zippyshare site because the page is full of ads that make it impossible to see the main page.
Install uBlock Origin extension of your browser (Firefox, Opera or Chrome) and try again.

My machine was recently infected with Internet Security 2010. I'm running Windows XP with Service Pack 3. After much tearing out of my hair, I cleared most of the infection up using Super Anti-Spyware, Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and a free trial of AVG Internet Security. All of the above were fully updated and I did uninstall, then reinstall MalwareBytes and run it again since I found information here stating that Internet Security 2010 damages MalwareBytes files. Now the virus appears to be gone, but when I click a search result in Google it redirects to various spam URLs. Examples (altered to be non-clickable):hxxp://bestsearchever.com/?q=avg%20freehxxp://www.smarttechnik.com/search-results.aspx?keywords=avg+virusThis also happens when I copy and paste URLs that it has already redirected from into my browser bar, but not if I switch browsers and paste the URL into the new browser. More esoteric search terms sometimes don't produce redirects. Common terms like the names of various antivirus programs consistently do produce this result. Running rkill shuts down my browser but doesn't change this behavior once the browser is reopened. I checked add/remove programs and uninstalled something called "search assistant" or "search helper" or something like that, but that also had no effect. Please help! This is one of the most frustrating infections I've ever dealt with. I'm sick of giving free traffic to spam sites every time I search!

Hi,

Also, the homepage is set to the same site.
I think this is another case of Privitize VPN virus.
But i don't see Privitize VPN in the Add/Remove Programs. Neither do I see any other suspicious program.

I followed the steps given here -> http://www.fixpcyourself.com/remove-privitize-vpn-removal-guide/
I scanned full system with Malware Antibytes, but there was no result related to privitize vpn.

On Sunday I noticed that Google was redirecting me to random sites, predominantly expandsearchanswers.com through Mozilla. I ran Malwarebytes which found and quarantined several tracking cookies it identified as trojans, but that didn't solve it. IE was not having the same problem initially, so I uninstalled and upgraded to the newest edition of Mozilla, as well as Java, uninstalling the older programs. The new Mozilla and now IE as well are redirecting to find-stuff-fast, informationgetter.com, expandsearchanswers. I ran Malwarebytes again this morning and it found two new items it identified as Trojans.

(Note: I am submitting this on my work computer since I'm wary of using my laptop until resolved, but I do not have it with me this morning to run any of the programs to fix this.) Thanks for the help in advance!

Hey guys. Whenever I scan with SAS after visiting mediafire, I usually have tracking cookies. I'm kind of concerned, because I don't want em'! Is there possibly a flaw in my security or whatnot? How can I stop em? I'm kinda surprised since mediafire is usually a site I trust.. Hello, As long as you surf the Internet, you are going to get cookies and some of your security programs will flag them for removal. However, you can minimize the number of them which are stored on your computer by referring to:

Hello all,

I have a question about mediafire. I am interested in downloading a file from there, which itself seems legitimate. It is a demo version of an upcoming Titanic PC game. ("Honor and Glory".) When hovering over the "download" button on the game website, (http://www.titanichg.com/demo/), I'm presented with a link to Mediafire, which is ".../download/0h8x0ukru7y1pbr/Titanic+-+Honor+and+Glory+Demo.zip"

I have heard of some security flaws in the site, and read reports about numerous infections taking place there, drive-by downloads and such. I usually stay away from sites like this, although in this case, this file seems to be from a legitimate developer. What I am concerned about though is the possibility of picking up some malware from the site in general, or that the file, or its page, since its upload, may have been injected with something malicious.

Does this seem like a secure thing to do, or is there a substantial risk of malware here? Any input is appreciated.

A:Mediafire download... secure or not?

mediafire itself shouldn't be a problem however the fact that the file is hosted there does not seem right if it is from an official developer. Although the download page might* be ok, I strongly suspect that if you download the file and then run it the file will turn out to be a virus.
*There are often adverts on mediafire download pages, if you use an adblocker and script blocker you are safe from these however if you lack those then you run the risk that the adverts on the download page (like adverts anywhere else) could be used for drive-bys. This isn't a rpoblme specific to mediafire, it's a problem on many websites including large legitimate sites, often major sites (like news websites for exmaple) end up displaying** adverts around the corner which are used like this. This risk is real enough, but in your circumstances I suspect the risk from the file itself will be even greater.
**many major sites work with major ad networks, major ad networks get adverts from smaller ad networks, and so on, until somewhere down the chain a very small ad network is tricked into displaying a malvertising advert, this advert is bought by larger and larger networks until it ends up on a major site.

Has anyone made use of MediaFire, the FREE online storage. If so, what is the procedure in activating it? The procedure outlined doesn't seem to work for me.
