PC Graphic glitches/tearing + Freeze ups during certain games. Plz Help I'm stumped

Q: PC Graphic glitches/tearing + Freeze ups during certain games. Plz Help I'm stumped

Hi folks

I'm hoping this great community can help me pin point a problem I am having with the majority of my games.

PC Specs:
P4 3.2 GHz
2GB Ram
Geforce 6800 GT 256
Windows Xp Sp2

Beginning about a month ago (had this home built PC for about a year or less) I started encountering a problem with some new games such as M&M Dark Messiah, Warhammer Mark of chaos, and even World of Warcraft (which worked fine in the past). The problem is when I would start playing the game I would within minutes start experiencing graphic glitches/tearing and then freeze-ups that would last around 10 seconds at a time, and they would continue until my computer would shut and restart.

My first impression is that my 3D card is overheating, however World of Warcraft for instance is working fine now after I followed a couple recommended fixes (deleting game cache folder, etc) and adjusting my graphic settings. Unfortunatly I can't really pinpoint what was the exact problem was since I did a variety of things untill it started working fine.

Logic tells me its my 3D card crapping out on me, but instinct tells me that its something else because why would world of Warcraft work fine, along with Warhammer 40k, but certain other games freak out? Another quick example, I had this graphic glitch freeze up problem happen to me again with Never Winter Nights 2 during character creation??? Only 1 simple 3d model present during creation, so this shouldn't be causing overheating.

Long winded I know but I am stumped and have searched countless forums for solutions. If there is any more info you require, feel free to ask and I will be happy to reply.

Thanks again, if anyone can help me find a solution or a way to find out if infact my 3d card if overheating or faulty I would greatly appreciate it.

Preferred Solution: PC Graphic glitches/tearing + Freeze ups during certain games. Plz Help I'm stumped

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: PC Graphic glitches/tearing + Freeze ups during certain games. Plz Help I'm stumped

Thats quite unusual. Your Pc specs are very good, a 6800GT should have no problem rendering detailed 3D. I have a 6800 GS and it can run Neveriwnter nights 2, and Mark of chaos fine.

The only thing i can personally think of, is your systems background services, sucking up your RAM, and causes it to jitter and lag out. Have you taken a look in your task manager under processes? If you have a lot of processes running, and they are taking lots of memory (15,000 -> 30,000K) you could probably do with shutting a few of them down to free up some RAM. Not just any ones though, you need to make sure not to stop important system files.

Goto Start -> Run -> Type "msconfig", when it loads, goto the services tab, and check the box at the bottom that says "hide all microsoft services". Then you can select "disable all" or disable a few, and keep the ones you need. This should free up some RAM.

-- Other helpful tips for top performance --

1) Run a disk defragment. If you have a partially or badly fragment hard-drive, it can cause your games and applications to run rather slow, and load slower.

2) Try using a program such as SpeedUpMyPC 3.0 , or a registry cleaning program. To remove Junk files, privacy intrusion files, and clean up your system registry.

3) bring up your system properties, (start -> right click my computer -> properties) go to advanced tab, -> under "performance", click "settings". -> goto the advanced tab, goto "virtual memory" set the initial to 2048, and the maximum to 4052. This should give you an extra memory boost.

If none of these work, the only thing i could suggest is to re-install the games.

Good luck

A few months ago I was experiencing freeze-ups in games and on certain webpages, as well as in Outlook. My quick fix for it was to underclock my card. It worked well enough.

Now it has started happening again. At first I noticed it in Outlook. I'd be writing, then the screen would lock up. It would black out and refresh anywhere from 2-30 seconds later and I could continue. When it did this again I went and updated my video card drivers, hoping maybe that would help. Not at all. If anything, the problem has intensified. I just tried viewing a small .GIF and my screen went dead.

I plan on getting a new vid card, although I'm unsure that this is the problem. Could it also be memory? I'm running only 256 mb of RAM, although that shouldn't be low enough to cause freezing for the tasks I do.

Have racked my brain these last couple of days trying to figure out what is causing this and how to correct it, but I'm stuck. So here I am. If anyone has any advice, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have EVGA GTX 970 SC for about two weeks and since then I get some graphic glitches. It firstly happen when the game starts to freeze and blackscreens but it fixed it with a clean install of drivers. After that, things go smoothly until I discovered some glitches. It seems like artifacts at first, but I made a topic on EVGA forums and they told me it was game glitches. Regardless, I ran Valley and Heaven Benchmark without any graphic glitches and artifacts. World of Warcraft and Dota didn't seem to have any glitches and artifacts. Only Team Fortress 2 seem to have these glitches. These glitches aren't consisitant and it happens like once and it disapears which makes it hard to reproduce, otherwise the gameplay wasn't affected. In case you didn't know, it ran on stock settings. I underclocked the gpu and I didn't see any glitches until I saw that red flash on the other screenshot where I use paint tool to make a circle out of it. Otherwise, EVGA forums told me that if you didn't see artifacts in heaven nor valley, your card is fine. That doesn't make any sense..of course I ran some memory error test and it shows no errors too. :/ Oh yeah, I almost forgot that my gpu temps are in the 40s-50s. I dunno if the card's faulty or what but I really need your guys your input on this.

A:Graphic Glitches (Artifacts?) on GTX 970

Bump! Surprisingly no replies here. O.o

Anyway, I've been through dozens of stress test including OCCT, MemtestG80, VMT, and EVGA OC Scanner and so far, no errors nor artifacts. I even used the furmark gpu core and memory burner with artifact scanner and didn't see any artifacts.

I honestly don't know why Team Fortress 2 has these small and non reproduced glitches. Was the game was old but was updated more recently, bad engine, drivers or what? It baffles me right out the bat. I hope the new drivers will solve it. Although I don't see anyone with a GTX 970 of any brand have this issue. ><

Is there any possible way about this?

I recently updated my graphics card from a GeForce 6600 LE and bought a new graphics card and a new PSU to support the graphics card.

I bought a BFG Nvidia Geforce 7600 GS OC AGP card. The reasons i bought this is because as im a student i'm limited to a certain amount of money i can spend, see i dont have a PCI-E slot for a PCI-E card. The computer i about 2 and a half years old and still uses DDR1 Ram and Intel Pentium 4 Proccessor. So I ran through a few reviews and all of them said that this card was the msot recommended for an AGP card for the system i had at the moment. the card needed a 400Watt power supply to run, so i bought a 500Watt PSU (other psu was 115Watts >.>).

I've succesfully installd both of the components and i installed the drivers on the disc. However, as you all are aware of, drivers update. So i looked through the Nvidia website and find the latest driver, was released in October 2008. So i uninstalled the drivers i installed originally and after restarting put the new Driver on.

Now when i test some games, (world of warcraft being the main one) there was Screen Tearing in the game. flashing lines and the writing being all glitched etc.

I tested Portal and it works fine(made up because the older graphics card was terrible i had to play with 800x600 Resolution on a 16:10 - 1650x1050 Screen -_-), minor Tearing, but still there in the weapons and doors etc.

Now i spoke to a few friends and they asked me if i uninstalled the other ... Read more

First, download the latest drivers from nVidia's website.

Then, under Add/Remove programs, you should find all previous driver versions and uninstall them.

Reboot, and install the new drivers. See if this corrects the issue.

Lately my computer has been experience screen tearing when outside of games. Usually I experience this when I'm scrolling up and down on websites such as reddit and this only goes on for less than 10 minutes at a time after which it will just not occur anymore. Not sure what to think of this as when I play games, such as League of Legends or Black Desert Online, my performance will still be great.

My two leading suspicions would be either by video card (980TI), or my monitor (BenQ GW2255) is dying. It could possibly be Google Chrome being buggy, but I'm not too sure about this since I also experience the screen within Microsoft Edge.

Any help to find the problem and to solve it would be greatly appreciated.

I recently upgraded to a GTX 570 and have suddenly started having a lot of screen tearing. Well, I don't know if it's technically screen tearing, but the screen has lighter, horizontal lines going across it when playing more demanding games such as Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Metro 2033, and Fallout: NV. It even happens occasionally in older games, like the original Deus Ex. I tried recording in Fraps and even with my phone, but you can't see the lines with either of those. Anyways, I've turned on VSync, tried playing them in low quality, updated drivers, and messed with the overclock settings, but none of that helped. Please help.

I havent filled out my comp specs first so let me give the run down of those.

2.7ghz AMD processor, 2 GB RAM, Geforce 5200 256MB PCI card, 80 GB main HD, 120 GB secondary HD. 3 working fans.

Ok now my problem. About a week ago I started getting random blue screens, not very often but it would happen. They would say basically to restart if this was the first time ive seen it and they had a few error numbers which sadly I dont have as of right now. The were something along the lines of 6 or 7 0's then like 1 or 2 or 3 at the end. Several different codes.

Then I started gettting random lock ups two days ago. Mainly my system locked up when trying to load a game such as World of Warcraft or Command and Conquer 3, which worked fine 2 weeks ago. Then as of yesterday and today Im getting graphical glitches in games when they actually do load, graphical glitches otuside of games and Im locking up, restarting, and getting the blue screen quite often. From what I have guessed my graphics card is going bad, but I wanted to be sure. The fan on it stoped over a year ago but I added another fan to my pc short after its stop and I havent had problems till recently.

Also sometimes I seem to be able to run games while other times I dont. And when Im in its like a ticking time bomb till it restarts, locks up, or blue screens on me. Any help pointing to if it is indeed my graphics card or if it is something else would be wonderful.

I got a Vista ultimate 64, Asus M4A78-E, AMD Phenom II 3.0, Powercolor 4870X2, 4 gig 800mhz ram, Corsair TX 650, and latly when i play games i get graphic glitches and studder and reduced flow in the game and then crash. This happens in many games but in different ways, Starcraft 2 Beta gives load of stutters and lines that goes vertical in the start and easens up a bit when you play, Arma 2 gives cosntantly stutters and low performance and glitches whit models and floor becoming white for some miliseconds at random, then we have Company of heroes which just crashes out right at random.

The crash is often black screen with vertical flimmering lines then blue screen, "unexpected hardware failure" then reboot and BCCode: 124.

I have posted dxdiag, relics warnong.log in this link RelicNews Forums - Game crashed to blue screen. . Since i first discoverd the problem with COH. I also upload your seven run here.

From what i gather it might be a conflict of some sort, since my system should never ever hack or stutter on any game (let alone give graphic glitches in all these games with white lines and stuff) and yet it does even at old games like COH or low intesnive as SC2 Beta, and becouse of the BCcode: 124, that would imply that something is disturbing the system and fighting?

I have updated my BIOS, soundcard, windows and ati drivers to the latest available.

A:Graphic glitches/stutter leading to BSOD BCcode: 124.

We'll need the rest of the reports from the Seven Forums folder (especially the MSINFO32, Driver List and Event Logs)

There's some suggested steps for STOP 0x124 errors here: http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-loc...try.htmlPlease be sure to update your system to Service Pack 2, then ensure that these drivers are updated:

Hello, I am experiencing diagional screen tearing when running mostly Open GL based games. This seems to be a known issue with the Nvidia 960m and similar chipsets as outlined in the following topic in the nvidia forums.  https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwifqM7Ezv7P... I have tried numerous solutions such as rolling back my dirver, updating my driver, turning vsync on or off, enabling and disabling triple buffer etc.... Only thing that seems to work is if I go into game settings under the nvidia control panel and have a game use the Intel GPU rather than the Nvidia GPU. Which of course leads to decreased performance. As I have stated this seems to be a known issue, and there is no solution known from my research. I am curious as to wether there has been any developments in a solution for this issue. Thank you.

OK this just started a couple of days ago and it's definitely getting worse.

I started noticing it when playing videos through Mediaplayer. There would be full screen graphics glitches that would just flash for a moment. Then it started full freezing (blue screen one monitor 1, green screen on monitor 2...not sold colors). I'm using a 2 monitor set up.

I also had a glitch where my cursor would get about 3x as big and there would be random horitonzal and vertical bars of pixels attached to it. It only happened on monitor 1...when I'd move the cursor over to monitor 2 it would turn into a normal cursor.

Now its happening a lot. It looks like my system continues to run even after the screen turns blue. I had a Skype call and it kept ringing even after the glitch occurs. I have to turn the system off and back on, but the "freeze" looks like its just a permanent graphics glitch until restart.

So it started through Mediaplayer when playing movies...now it occurs all the time - but mostly when switching windows, not usually when the system is idle.

I didnt do anything to my system. No hardware changing, or anything...it just started happening out of nowhere.

I'm on an i7 980 with an ASUS motherboard...6 GB of DDR3 ram and 2 Radeon 5050 video cards. I've got a 24" LED monitor and a 22" LCD monitor for my setup. The glitch occurs on both monitors

I found out that i can make it happen anytime I want...if i open a link in a new window in firefox...the ... Read more

Welcome to SF, unfungames.

First, do the following:

In the line at the top of www.SevenForums.com you will see UserCP.
That is an abbreviation for User Control Panel.
Click on UserCP.
In the left-hand column, under Your Profile you will see Edit System Spec.
Click on Edit System Spec
You can copy and paste from the output of Speccy, Speccy - System Information - Free Download to fill out much of the info. Be sure to use the Other Info section of your System Specs for such info as your optical drive, your wireless adapter, your speakers, etc.
When you say blue screen, is it the blue screen of death (with error messages) or just a blank blue screen.

Have you updated your video and audio drivers?

Been trying to analyse things myself but the dumps are all over the place and don't seem to point to a single failing part or software issue. I have a feeling it might be driver related but not 100%, already used driver cleaner to remove a fair few and re-installed, but nothing doing. I also did a pass of memtest86 but it found no errors, i originally thought this may be RAM related.

Hi all.

I have been having this very strange problem with vsync for sometime now and only recently discovered that it was something to do with v sync itself (I think).

This is what I recorded
Basically in some games (not all) I get what is shown in the video. Now the thing is I found while I was playing around is that if I disable v sync totally, this stuttering/tearing seems to go away by quite a lot. The fps goes to 90 (I think cod is fixed to that) and it smooths out a lot but its still a little jittery and not perfectly smooth. This is also the case with bad company 2.

I never had a problem with any game up until about 2 years ago when this started happening unexplainably.

Another strange thing about this is that it only seems to occour ONLINE. Single player has non of this at 60fps. If I use a 360 controller to move there is no stutter/tearing

I had the same issue with battlefield 3 but for some reason I cured it by limiting the fps to 59.95 and its smooth as butter. I have tried this with some of the other games but it does not work.

To add to the strangeness this also happends on a completely different PC I built a while back. And led me to believe it was an internet problem. I ran many tests all to come back clear, I even changed providers.

again as I say it only happends on some games not all.

games affected:

BF Bad company 2
All Call of Dutys
Crysis 2
and a few more.

New user...lurker for past month as I stumbled upon this site while trying to fix some problems I have been having. I've run several programs to clean-up junk (Ad-Aware SE, Spybot S&D, TDS-3, etc) and thought I had problem solved.

Running XP Pro SP2. Computer starts up and runs fine for a while. When switching users, sometimes blue screen pops up and system goes down. Other times blue screen pops up out of nowhere. Restart and 50% of time will run normal, 50% of time computer freezes after log-in while programs are loading. If I try to restart it sometimes freezes again other times it loads and runs. Also...I don't use IE but tonight I noticed that searching in the address bar isn't working as well (I also see the "hook" is missing in the log.) Hope I didn't mess something up.

I'm stumped. Don't know a lot so bear with me if I have questions. I've made a log file and hope someone can help. Thanks well in advance.

My Windows XP Pro PC (Asus p5 Series motherboard, Pentium 4 2.8processor, 2GB Ram, 512mb MSI Graphics Card, Matrox RTX100 Video card) keeps getting scattered glitches across the screen and then very soon after the system locks up/freezes and then sometimes completely crashes.
The computer was self built about 6 years ago mainly by a friend and its main purpose was to video edit but hasnt been 100% right from the start. I had used it ok and edited a few things but stopped using it for some time when it started to crash quite often. I tried using it agian recently but now I get this happening within the first 30min of using it.
One thing i always thought was that it got to hot, the software temperature gauge often showed it approaching red all the time. but this was confusing because I have 2 fans on the case (one in a flap out the top of the case_ plus I mounted a fan in a spare AGP slot near the graphics card.
I wondered if the CPU was still over heating and causing this, in that case I wouldn't have a clue what to do, or if the graphics card was faulty, in which case would I need a new one? I wouldn't want to spend a lot in case this wasn't the problem.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Did a lot of searching, googling and testing before this post, if you find the solution that I missed then I freaking love you.

I just put together a new Intel build for my GF for one reason: Sims 3. She loads up Sims and in game there are what appears to be scan lines or possibly screen tears. They are prevalent in all kinds of environments in game and make the game unplayable for her.

I have been trying to fix this for a week now to no avail.

Here is what I have tried:

1. We have the same vid card, so I switched them out

2. Updated ALL drivers for MB, VGA, BIOS, Win7 mostly through the manufacturer websites.

3. Enabled Vsync and Triple Buffer in the VGA control panel

4. Forced the VGA to max graphics through the Nvidia Control Center for a theory that the PC is rendering faster than the monitor can refresh

5. I have ran another game and the lines are still present

6. Tried underclocking the VGA since it is shipped OC'd

7. We have ran the game on my PC with the same monitor, NO LINES. Again, NO LINES WHEN ON MY PC WITH SAME MONITOR AND VGA
Still lines on hers....
I have tried all these things before posting this. Thank you so much for helping me figure this out.
On to the specs:

The monitor is a Viewsonic vs13860

i just upgraded from integrated graphics to a geforce 7600gt. While playing far cry cs:s or DoD:s, i will have a very steady framerate (around 60fps with maxed settings) but every now and then, especially when the map first starts, there will be very slight pauses that last about a 1/5 of a second and about 1-2 seconds when i first fire my gun. This does not happen at all when I play painkiller though. I have an amd athlon 3500+ with 512mb of ram. If i upgrade my ram to 1 gigabyte or my psu to over 350w (its at 300w right now) will these annoying glitches go away? the recomended psu, according to the box, is 350w and im worried that mine doesnt have enough juice to power it, hence the pauses. or is it sometyhing wrong with my computer or brand new card?

A:small glitches when playing some games.

Upgrading your psu sooner rather than later is a good idea. With a system like yours id say that a 400watt is your minimum really to be on the safe side.

Have you checked your bios settings to ensure they are set correctly for a plug in graphics card?
And did you remove all drivers and applications for your on board card before installing your new one?

Hello there,
I've been having this problem for quite some time, and it occurs only when I play video games.
Every time when I'm playing games a glitch appears (not instantly but over time). It happens every time when there is a sudden change of the game terrain (in every single game), sometimes the image is also flashing on the borders of the screen.
It started when that new AMD Crimson software came out, it was automatically updated with my previous AMD catalyst.
I've tried like everything that came up to my mind. I rebooted my system with entire clean, checked on all of my drivers (they are up to date), etc.
One thing to mention, i like to record my games, and on every recording you cant see the glitch (I think this is important for helping resolve the issue). I thought my monitor had dead pixels on my monitor so i resolved that issue as well, everything is fine with that as well.
I'm out of ideas on how to fix this. I mean its not making my FPS get low or anything, but its getting pretty annoying i think i might get epilepsy cause of this thing...
The main point is that I exhausted everything, and I cant locate whats the actual issue, and thats where I need your help.
I'm gonna post my dxdiag, and some screenshots (yes, when I take a screenshot a glitch appears)
*notice on the screenshot, the image is flashing in those areas where you can see it, and the screenshot just shows it in less than a second. One more thing i'll post some of the scre... Read more

For no reason that I can discern, the audio on my desktop has decided to go totally out of whack whenever I play a game on it. I thought it was originally a problem with Mass Effect 2 (where I first saw the issue). All sounds coming out of the speakers would be accompanied by various snaps, crackles, and pops, and it sounded like all the voices ingame were being played twice at the same time. In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, I got the same rice krispies effect as ME2, and the background music was erratic (played superfast and seemed to spontaneously change and reset). When playing Supreme Commander, all I got was some nice screeching and constant tones.

I thought that perhaps it was a problem with programs running in fullscreen, but SupCom did it in window mode as well, and 1602 AD (or Anno 1602, whatever you know it as) didn't have issues in fullscreen mode. The strange part about all of this is that it ONLY seems to affect my games; all Windows sounds play normally, and I can listen to music and watch movies with no audio problems.

I've tried updating the audio drivers, but that had no effect. What REALLY got me was that I completely reformatted the hard drive and put a fresh install of Windows on it, yet after installing Oblivion I still have audio problems. When I check my audio device in Device Manager, it checks out as having no problems (simply disabling/enabling does nothing, either). Given the fact that absolutely nothing changed on my computer for months... Read more

Hi folks,
I'm having some graphics-related problem on my PC. It happens every time i run a so-called 3d game. It doesn't happen in old games though (like Zeus or GTA2 for example).
Glitches happen at random times (early in some games and late in others). It's like suddenly game freezes for a second and then graphics become glitchy (the game continues to run with glitchy graphics). Interesting is, that all these glitches are fixed with an alt+tab.
I don't know which part of PC to suspect. I tested each game on 2 different graphics cards (GeForce 9500 GT and GeForce GTS 250) and it's all the same.
Here are some screenshots for example:
The Sims 3 - http://www.mediafire.com/i/?y1c7u2c1oa2iutu

So I'm on a relatively high spec laptop:

16GB Ram
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 960M Graphics card
Quad core intel i-5 processor, 2.30 GHz

Had it a few weeks, and it started off running really smooth, games were working at ultra high and my 3D modelling software had no rendering issues despite heavy work. I've not really downloaded much or done anything to the laptop other than install a few steam games.

Now comes the issue - over the last couple of weeks, graphical glitches keep appearing. For example, in Firefox, whenever I open a second tab, the second one keeps pixelating all over the place. This happens in other browsers too, but not in anything else. Any idea what might be going on?

Also, my games will no longer run at a high framerate, even with low settings and almost all background processes off. Task manager claims that it's not even using 20% of my GPU or CPU. So how do I fix this?

FInally, there is also the issue of my touchpad, which will randomly decide to start jumping my mouse about for a while, and when that stops moving the cursor does nothing but zooms the screen. This only stops upon a reboot, and is very irritating, please help.

P.S. All drivers are updated so it's not that. Please try and keep it relatively simple as I do not have that much computer knowledge. Thanks for your time

Hello there!
First I must say I'm not really sure if this is an actual hardware issue. I had my (Win 10) computer for approx. 1.5 year and I didn't have this problem until recently. When I play music I get this static noise glitches, in case of video the glitches of audio track and video track are in sync. It can range from barely noticeable glitch to around 1-2 second glitches (the ones after which you'd expect to get bluescreen, I never do).
While I could get use to this, the glitches make my computer almost unusable for VR gaming (Vive). As you can imagine it could be motion sickness inducing experience if the video jitters and skips frames every other second not following actual movements of your body. The issue seems to be more severe for VR than regular gaming. It also takes ages to load VR games for some reason (compared to regular games).

The reason why I think this might be hardware issue, more specifically issue with electricity wiring in my apartment is that the fridge situated in the same room as computer stopped working approx. month after I started to have the issue with my PC.

I'd appreciate any suggestions!

I have tried a number of things to fix it, I have ran memtest86, removed sound card to see if that was the problem, unplugged numerous things to see if it was a power issue (I had bought the 550W to upgrade a 450W psu thinking that was the issue, I was sadly wrong), heat isnt an issue, my cpu runs at 41C on average, Mobo runs at 30C on avg. I have updated my bios, my vid card drivers, soundcard drivers, swapped the ram sticks with each other, I have tried a different video card and it locks up too. I have tried running 3Dmark, but after it loads up nothing else comes to the screen, just a black screen. Are there any older drivers that would work better than the new ones? I have also updated my agp drivers for the motherboard. Help needed, I'm at the end of my rope.

I am in desperation mode right now. I have spent the last two days to figure out what has been wrong with my Graphics Card and I am just hoping I have not fried it or done irreversible damage.

A couple days ago the Catalyst Control Center was refusing to open for me so instead I began to use ATI Tray Tools. At first everything was fine I even was able to Overclock it slightly. I grew curious and let it bench my GPU for a time. Soon my screen was stuttering and windows were (Not Responding) quite often. So I chose to turn off some windows features in the control panel --> Program and Features --> Features options on the left side bar. I turned off most save for those necessary and rebooted. I then went to play a just downloaded game, MLB 2k12, the graphic were a mess. (I included screen shots). So to see if it was just the game I booted up another 2k game, NBA 2k12, it gave me similar results. I then tried Darksiders 2 and War for Cybertron, those both crashed on launch. As well all the sudden my Windows Experience Index is a 1.0 due to the Graphics test.

I have done a full reinstall of the drivers, by going through the program files, users files, and registry to get rid of all hints of the old river. I reinstalled and this did not fix the problem I had, though it did make the CAtalyst Control Center work, however none of the option in the Control Center seemed to ease this issue.

I really need help I have been contemplating a full Factory REset, but if I do so and... Read more

Your best bet is to uninstall all drivers

if you don't have driver sweeper get it http://majorgeeks.com/Driver_Sweeper_d6171.html

after having driver sweeper installed go into safe mode uninstall all ATI drivers for the 6800 series

reboot as it ask you too then after reboot power down remove the card if you have dedicated graphics lets those run the graphics after that power down again

reseat the card power on then let it run then re install 12.6 from the AMD site

and maybe it will be working fine again

Hello, I try to play old and new Games on the HP ZBook 15 G2 but each time between 2 - 15 minutes the Game freezes while the sound is still playing for at least 5 minutes until I can play further. It seems like the graphics card is buffering something like on a Video stream until I can continue playing. The Games work perfectly before and after this kind of game freeze. Is this a known issue? What could be the issue? Usually Games should either lag, being slower with less fps, have screen tearing, etc. but somehow buffer a Game for minutes until it works completely fine again is new to me. The same Games work on a much less performant HP 840 G1 Notebook but of course I need to turn down the graphics options depending on the Game. What is also odd it seems in general there are issues with using ALT+TAB to get to Windows while in a Game which works fine on my other PC. Hardware: Intel Core i7-4810MQ CPU, 16GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4600 and NVIDIA Quadro K2100M What I tried:I installed the latest Windows 10 64-Bit Version with all updates, used the HP Support Assistant Tool to install every Update it found. After the issue still there I later tried to install the latest Intel Graphics Driver from the Intel website ( from July 2016), the latest Nvidia Driver from the Nvidia website from the stable branch from October 21st 2016. Tried to disable the internal Intel Graphics Card but e.g. Battlefield 1 is then compla... I have a custom built PC with custom built case that I bought from an enthusiast about 4 or 5 years ago. It boots on a 10000 RPM raptor drive and I store media on a 1 tb striped raid composed of two 500gb seagate drives. When I moved a year or so ago there was an issue that required me to replace the Mobo, CPU fan and RAM. I've got an i5 with a good mobo and enough ram, 800W power supply that's new and more than enough. Good airflow.

There are a ton of specs below, I don't like troubleshooting hardware on my main computer (like wrenching on a car that you need to get to work) so I'll get to the point.

A week or so ago I went to play Divinity: Original Sin, which had played the day before with no issues. Nearly immediately I started seeing graphical artifacts and within minutes the screen glitched out and locked, held for a bit, I saw the "graphics crash and just recovered" blip while I was hitting cntl alt etc locked up and had to hard cold boot.

This was repeated. I tried a different game (new one I got on sale through Steam, both are through Steam which might but probably won't matter) and it started glitching and locked within seconds.

I should note that neither of these games are in any way graphically intensive. Anyway, I immediately assumed that my old Geforce 8800GT is finally demanding to be upgraded. I immediately suspected the video card.

Troubleshooting I realized this: My CPU and GPU temps were not noticeably high (I tested ... Read more

What is the make and model of the PSU? Saying its 800W isn't enough, there is quite a difference between low and high end units of the same, advertised wattage. Also, bare in mind that all PSUs degrade with age, so its output will reduce over time. The rate of degredation will depend on the quality of the unit and the amount of load that is put no it.

The 8800GT is an old card to say the least (released in Summer 2007), however they were very capable in their time. If you are gaming then you could definately benefit from an upgrade, do consider your PSU quality, age and capability if you go down this route though.

Your symptoms sound fairly typical of a GPU problem or possibly power. I would possibly lean more towards a failing GPU based on you saying you get artifacts during Youtube videos which are not GPU intensive.

You say your temps are OK, what are you using to check? Can you check voltages with that also?

Okay, well my laptop's 6800go finally took a crap on me after 4 years. Went to best buy and bought a cheapo computer (mainly for the tower / monitor) with plans to take it apart and upgrade it down the road when I have the cash.

I was planning on the 9600 GT DDR3 Card, but realized that the computer is only rocking a 300W Power Supply. SO, For a temp solution, and rather than using the Integrated Card (ATI Radeon HD 3200) I bought a cheap fix and went with the Nvidia 9400 GT. Having trouble now...

I am new to vista 64 bit OS

So, I uninstall the ATI Drivers, turn off... Install the new card, plug it all back up. Start up, go to Nvidia to DL the latest drivers (180.48) and when I start the install it tells me there are no compatible drivers. ***! Yes, I have a 64bit Vista OS, and Yes I DL'd the right ones. I found a forum post saying sometimes this happens, and to go into the actual folder and click on the setup.exe manually, no luck there. So, I restart again, this time I boot into safe mode, run Driver Cleaner Pro... restart, I try to install the 180.48 Drivers again.. same problem.

So I decided to pop in the disk that came with the hardware... 177.79. Figure ok we'll give these a shot. I select 64bit install etc, loads up.. np I start WoW and after 2-3 seconds of being in game, I freeze and have have to hard boot to get back. I even tried letting windows find updates for me, and it finds and installs a 179.** (can't remember exactly) but the same problem persi... Read more

Ok, try reducing the graphics settings inside WoW. Should be under settings in the game. If that doesn't work you may well need to invest in a new PSU, which considering you are trying to run a graphics card is a good idea anyway, may i recomend a 400W minum for that card and if you plan to update it at all go for around about 500W upward just for futureproofing. Also try reinstalling your nividia drivers again and if worst come to worst try getting the graphics driver directly from windows update as i hav had a few experiences where the driver microsoft offers is more stable than the companies latest release.

Hi Sevenforums

My PC is lately beginning to freeze randomly. Sometimes I just surf the web and then my music lags for 20 seconds and everything freezes. Sometimes Windows says that it has recovered from a "Video Hardware Error". And other times it's just coming back to normal without any message.

Today I came back to my PC, it was turned on. And my monitor was on "standby" which it does automatically after 10 minutes. But when I moved on the mouse it didn't turn on or the PC didn't respond, then after 30 seconds the PC restarted with the screen where you press enter to start normally again.

When I checked in the problem registry there where three problems. Two "Video Hardware Errors", and one BSOD error.

I find it pretty annoying so I hope you can help me. I've attached the zip.
