Windows 10 Bitlocker code required every time after BIOS upgrade on XPS 15 9560

Q: Windows 10 Bitlocker code required every time after BIOS upgrade on XPS 15 9560

I had a lot of issues with the screen blinking/flickering on/off when removing the laptop from the WD-15 dock and read that the new BIOS upgrade would fix this issue so I went ahead and upgraded the BIOS.
I installed "DellDockingStationFwUp_1.0.0.8_20161220_WD15.exe" and "XPS_9550_1.2.21.exe".
I added Bitlocker protection the first thing I did when I got the laptop about a year ago and it has been working fine.
After this upgrade (with or without) the dock attached I get the Bitlocker code prompt at every start of the laptop.
I can't seem to roll back the FW upgrades as the installer tells me I have a newer version installed...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Windows 10 Bitlocker code required every time after BIOS upgrade on XPS 15 9560

After searching and checking I found that I no longer have any compatible TPM according to Windows.
(Win 10 Enterprise 64bit Build 14393)
Looking in the BIOS there is no setting for TPM anymore so then I found a way to rollback BIOS FW.
It was by shutting down, unplug the power plug and then keep CTRL+ESC pressed while plugging in the power plug. That brings up a prompt where I could do a rollback and after that tehre still is no TPM in BIOS. I run the same again but this time I chose to reset the BIOS settings, still no TPM!
I still have to give the Bitlocker key at every startup and to top it off the laptop no longer goes to sleep when the lid is closed, it shuts down even though the settings is to "sleep".
This of course means that every time I carry it around I have to add the Bitlocker key when picking it up.
Our corporate network requires Bitlocker so I can't use the laptop without bitlocker in the domain.
Any suggestions?

Using a Dell tablet, with Windows 8.1, I now have to enter the 64-digit bitlocker recovery key every time I power up the tablet.  After doing
so, it permits me to continue to restart.  Previously, I was only required to enter a password to get to the desktop.  If I run Windows update, or any other process which might require a restart, it will do so without having to reenter the bitlocker
key.  How may I determine what caused this change in powering up the tablet, requiring the entry of more that just a normal password?  This just occurred within the last 1-2 months.

Had not used the notebook for a long time. When I tried to boot it up, a screen flashed up; it flashes up for too short a time to read properly but at the bottom, it gives F9 and F10 boot options but I could not get these to do anything. Then the screen goes to an "Enter CURRENT password" prompt. No HP or Windows logo at all. When the password is unsuccessfully entered 3 times, the following is displayed;  Password check failed / Fatal Error... System failed / CNU92032MQ and the only thing the notebook can do is be switched off, to repeat the same process. I tried removing battery and using the various the e9xxx passwords given on the blog, nothing has worked so far. (Is this a "Power On" or a "BIOS" password prompt?) Please help me recover my notebook.

Hello!

In my upgrading frenzy, I went ahead and updated my new work-provided laptop's BIOS (Dell E7240). Lo and behold Bitlocker is now asking for a recovery key.
As the IT Administrator won't be available till next week and I am in urgent need to access it.

My question is simple; does downgrading the BIOS back reverse the lock?

Thanks!

A:Bitlocker and BIOS Firmware Upgrade - Locked out!

Nope. You will need to wait for IT admin at this point.

I have a Dell XPS 15 9550, and after a recent BIOS upgrade, it seems to have lost the PIN, and is asking me to enter a BitLocker recovery key, which so far at least, I've been unable to find.  So does anyone know how to:

Reenter the PIN so that the system boots normally (TPM/UEFI/etc.)?
If that is not possible, re-install Windows 10?

The system was upgraded right after purchase from Windows 10 Home to Pro, otherwise is pretty stock.
When I go through the various recovery options to Troubleshoot:

Reset this PC:  It asks again for the recovery key (which I do not have)
Advanced > System Restore:  Same (recovery key which I do not have)

I realize that the without the Bitlocker recovery key, that the data may be all lost, but what I would like to do is get the system running again, at least to the point I can re-install Windows.  I have the PIN of course, but cannot seem to get to the point where the system prompts for it, it is stuck on the Bitlocker key, which I cannot find.

Suggestions?

I tried using HP BIOS Flashing utility on my HP Z400 Workstation, and it says it can't continue because I have Bitlocker enabled, but I don't have bitlocker on Win 7 Professional 32bit. I don't see it on the control panel or in context menus. I do see it set to manual in "Services" but the service in not running. Is there a way to find drives Bitlocked or are my drives being treated as bitlocked because of my antivirus program AVG?

A:BIOS flash error, BITLOCKER on? No bitlocker installed, Win 7 Pro

In the services window is there and option to disable or turn off...there should be. Just change the startup type from manual to disable and reboot. Then try your BIOS update.

I upgraded my Vista to Windows 7. Turned off Bitlocker before upgrading. When I finally had Windows 7 on my computer I tried to turn on bitlocker again. It was not possible, so I decrypted the drive. Then I tried to encrypt the drive again but on reboot I got the attached message. Windows boots normally to the desktop but the drive is not encrypted. Anyone there who knows what to do to get bitlocker working again?

Thanks and greetings

Are your boot files on C: or are they on the system reserved partition where they're supposed to be?

Maybe you need to format the system reserved partition and repair the boot files.

another option is reformat and clean install Windows 7. Don't forget to back up your data.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. (If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install.) Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here. Your installer is questionable so if it fails after one more attempt, try another ISO burned with tool in link, then try flash stick method.

I have this issue occured to me a couple of days ago. I have tried to reinstall the wifi driver with the latest one from Intel here. But this didn't work back then. Out of nowhere on May 20th (I look at the installation history!) I opened Lenovo Vantage and saw that there were updates available, which were:ThinkPad BIOS Update V 1.21Intel Management Engine Firmware V 12.0.35.1427Intel Management Engine Software V 1904.12.0.1208Of course I just installed them all. Apparently this did clear the issue with the wifi not working and everything runs smoothly. But  as of today May 26th the same issue happens again, right after I unplugged my laptop from power source. I think it went to sleep mode while I carry it around. Why is this happening? I search around the forum, but rather unclear on how to fix this issue. I tried the solution here, but that didn't work. It asked me to downgrade the firmware and after I entered Y, the window just closed without any changes being made. I tried to reinstall the other driver version from Intel, this also didn't work. Is there any clear solution to this issue? I now have to connect my phone and share the wifi through usb to access this forum. Seriously? This should be a premium laptop.

Hi,
Should I keep my Dell XPS 15 9560 plugged in all the time while I'm using it?.
The battery of this laptop is not removable.

A:is safe to keep my Dell XPS 15 9560 plugged in all the time?

There's nothing "unsafe" about doing so, but if you want to extend your battery's longevity for that use case, you may want to configure the BIOS to limit max charge to 80% and allow it to self-discharge down to 50% before charging again.  I use this setup for my own XPS 15 because I practically never use the battery.  Of course this configuration can become an issue if you happen to disconnect when the battery is closer to 50% and then happen to need that extra battery life you would've had otherwise, but if you're almost never using the battery anyway, the long-term pros may outweigh that occasional con for you.  I wish Dell had a utility where you could say "Start charging right now and go all the way to 100% this one time" so that the default battery behavior could be overridden on-demand as needed (Lenovo supports this), but I haven't found a way to do that.

I have noticed this issue today.  When I was moving some files from my phone to my laptop, it displayed the message "calculating the time required to copy the files," loaded more time than it should have, and then did the transfer. This has never happened before.  It normally just jumps right into the file transfer process without that delay.  Does it have something to do with the amount of files in a folder or something else, because I just dd a transfer of two zipped files and they did not display that message.  Can someone explain why my computer displayed this message?

Windows 7 (64-bit)

A:annoying "calculating the time required to copy the files message" on windows 7

Yes - you are correct, it is the quantity of files. As far as I know, it will do this for one little text file as well, but since the time taken for the calculation is so short, the message doesn't have the time to show.

Obviously, since the time taken for calculation depends on the amount of data, there comes some critical level when the time is long enough for the message to show. You get the same thing when moving files between drives inside the computer. Internally, on my own computer, it seems to be about 250Mb.

Am I likely to have problems with activation?
Would you recommend a reformat of the C: partition?

There seem to be widely differing views about whether to reformat or not, so I should very much appreciate reasons.
Thanks

A:Substantial upgrade - Windows reinstall required?

The computer probably wont even boot into Windows if you dont do a re-install because the old chipset drivers will try to load. Ive tried several times and its never worked. Its best to backup your data or move it to another partition and format your primary partition, C, and do a clean install. I keep all my important data and downloads on a seperate partition so I dont have to worry about loosing anything when Windows craps out or I have to re-install. You shouldnt have a problem activating Windows as long as you have a valid product key.

DELL Support Update is recommending a BIOS update to version 1.2.4. I am a bit wary of this based on a couple of posters who have bricked their system updating the BIOS. Has anyone here successfully updated to this BIOS version? I don't like to ignore DELL's recommendation but I'm worried it might cause problems.

I have an hp pavillion dv4 2112 tu running windows 7 home premium 32 bit. I want to upgrade it to win10 but i don't have the necessary upgrades to get it to upgrade on its own by the get windows 10 app. I read somewhere about the kb2952664 and the 3035583 updates and tried to install them via windows update but it was stuck at downloading updates with no traffic generated. I tried manually downloading those but the WUSA is stuck at 'searching for updates on this computer'. I've tried deleting the contents of the software distribution folder, microsoft fixit for Windows update, their troubleshooting tool(stuck at resolving) but nothing's worked. I dont have a restore point to fall back too. What dk I do now?
Edit: I tried running sfc /scannow but it's failing at 29%.

I am one of the many unfortunate owners of an Asus motherboard with a UEFI clock freeze problem. The clock randomly freezes and when it does, apart from the Windows time going wonky, it causes havoc with certain applications that I run that rely on the BIOS clock. This includes Precision Manuals Development Groups (PMDG) Boeing 737 simulator for FSX. The problem is widely reported on the ASUS ROG forums and affects quite a few of their high end boards. Mine is the Hero Maximus VI. They are as confused about the issue as us unhappy owners and have yet to identify a solution other than a total reset of the BIOS which is irritating when you have tweaked settings for over clocking. This is not a BIOS battery issue, it is a software or hardware fault that is causing the BIOS clock to freeze. So no "change your battery" comments please

Anyway, in an effort to fault find, is there a way to totally disconnect Windows time from the BIOS clock? As I understand it, when Windows corrects its time using the time servers, it will adjust the BIOS clock also? Maybe this is when the freezes occur and if I can stop this process, maybe the problem will "go away".

A:Disconnect Windows time from the BIOS time

Try this software:
Thinking Man Software - Dimension 4 v5.3
I think that you can set it to sync each minute.

Not sure how best to describe this, also confirmed by others who have updated to BIOS 1.1.3
since installing the BIOS update the fans will rev to full at various times, rebooting is one time, they are forced to 100% with no ramp up, this causes a high pitched noise as the fans cannot cope with being revved up so fast.
When the fans kick in they will not kick in at 2500rpm (minimum), they will ramp up about 1000rpm faster then settle down.
This has never happened in the time I have owned a 9550 and 9560 until this new BIOS update.
I have reset the BIOS to defaults a few times, reflashed the update and it still does it.

Changing Dell power command doesn't help either.

Hi Dell, you seem to be ignoring my other topic of the same subject

This needs fixing before it starts taking out the fans or blowing the motherboard fan controller, ie motherboard replacements.

Hi, I currently have a dell xps 15 (9550) with i7, 512gb ssd and 16gb ram. I'm really interested in game performance and graphical design software. I want to know if the gpu upgrade from 960M to a 1050 is worth, and If I'll see a big inprovement in game performance.

A:Should I upgrade my Dell XPS 9550 to a 9560 ?

If you're going to be doing extensive gaming and graphic design, keep the existing XPS and buy a desktop system to supplement it.  Neither the XPS 9550 nor the 9560 is really capable of anything more than casual gaming -- and they're not design workstations.

Hi,I have a ThinkCenter desktop mashine. It's about 8 years old. Recently I replaced the HDD with an SSD and reinstalled Windows7 on it from a DVD that I received from a friend. During installation I proveded the Windows7 product key as requested by the installer. During the Windows activation process I received a 0xC004F063 error message, indicating that the BIOS driver is missing a licence, so the activation can't be done.  I then called Microsoft Support to activate via phone, but was told, that only Lenovo can do the reactivation. Can you please help what to do? Thank you in advance!

Hi,
I bought a XPS 9560 (4k display) about one month ago, this is my first dell device, since then I got series of issues like BSOD/Black screen/freeze, most of them I am able to solve by updating the drivers/software/firmware.
But today I had another problem, when I try to boot my system, it stopped at an error screen and says "Invalid configuration information - please run SETUP program Time-of-day not set", I press the power button to restart several times but the problem stays. So I press the "BIOS Setup" button in the screen, the error screen exited and the windows 10 was able to boot finally.
However, all my previous BIOS settings are gone! Including my setting for keyboard shortcuts.
I asked google and found some old threads which had same issues,

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/20012189?pi41097=2
It's seems that this problem is caused by main-board battery drain.
I had main-board battery problem on another computer once, but it was 10 years old machine, how could this happen again on a newly bought laptop?
DELL, I am kind of disappointed with you.

Still waiting for Dell to update BIOS to enable SpeedShift on the 9560 and 9550 premium XPS laptops.
When will this happen?

A:XPS 9560 Speed Shift - when will Dell enable via BIOS update?

Agreed - It would be nice if we could use all features of our CPU.

I bought my XPS 9560 (FHD + 256SSD) on April. It works very nice until last week that i updated my BIOS to 1.3.3.
After that i got some BSODs. Some times my screen freezes and my PC hangs.
First i don't suspect to BIOS because i updated Windows + Anti virus + some other stuff in short period of time.
After i tested many things likes  re-installing windows and installing different version of Intel and Nvidia graphic drivers , my problem didn't solve.

BSODs that i got:
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

So i downgraded BIOS to 1.1.3 (Factory installed BIOS) and all the problems gone.

I should mention that during BIOS downgrade i got this error:
ME Firmware EndUpdate Failed Error : 0x00002236
But it rebooted and everything is normal.

I can share more information and windows dump files if it helps solving this problem with BIOS ver 1.3.3.
Thanks
Pooya

Having an issue with all Dell 7510's and associated docks we've deployed to new users at my employer. The external keyboard won't work at the Bitlocker prompt. These PC's are imaged for Win10.
I've sifted through the BIOS settings and have had no luck getting it to work. One thread I found said to make sure the Post Behavior -> Fast Boot setting is set to Thorough. Verified that is the case.
Note: if I undock and dock the PC the external keyboard will work that 1st time at the bitlocker prompt, but at next reboot it doesn't work.

I just installed 32GB of the 2666MHz ram found from the official Dell Upgrade site and when I booted to bios it showed that my ram was 2400MHz. Is this normal and it just shows 2400 but performs as 2666 or is there something wrong

A:Installed 32GB of 2666MHz ram in my dell xps 15 9560 but bios shows it as 2400MHz

The memory controller is aboard the CPU - the memory speed is set by the CPU itself.  What model CPU do you have?

Hi all! I have a hp laptop (HP 6730b) and two partitions, C (system) and D. I have tried bitlocker, I encripted C drive, everything works fine, but I cannot choose a pin code for C partition...

When I started to encript C drive, there's no way to type my password/my pin code, I could only save my recovery key to my pendrive...

I don't know, my simple windows user password is enough? I heard that it's easy to hack that, so I hope bitlocker will be safer, if it's ask password immediately after I power on my laptop...

(I know that if somebody disassemble my laptop and put my hard drive to another pc, it won't work because tpm... But I want to choose a password, which is needed immediately after I power on my laptop, is it possible?)

Thank you for help!
