Audio Device not detecting

Q: Audio Device not detecting

My speakers are not being detected by windows xp. on device manager it says i need a driver for pci device. I dont know what that is, and how to get the driver. I do beleive this is a driver issue. I have a 945-p ECS motherboard. I had used driver magician to backup my drivers before reformatting, and i used the restore drivers method, but it seems like it skipped a driver or somethin.
Thanks .

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Drivers are all up to date, it's all plugged in fine and in the correct places. I have speakers plugged into the back and headphones plugged into the front, yet my computer still says no speakers or headphones are plugged in. I have even gone to the effort of reinstalling windows completely but to no avail. I am using on-board audio by the way and it is enabled in the BIOS, please help I've literally tried everything I can think of, looked online on all the forums but still nothing has helped and I am officially lost.

A:My computer isn't detecting any audio device help please

According to the ASRock site, this has RealTek HD Audio. Do you have the correct RealTek driver or do you have the generic Windows installed "High Definition Audio Codec"? If you only have the Windows installed High Definition Audio Codec, the first step is to get the correct RealTek Driver. ASRock only has Vista drivers but they are applicable to Windows 7. However, the most current RealTek driver can be downloaded direct from RealTek.

Your system has the RealTek ALC888 hardware. The RealTek High Definition Codecs are the correct drivers.

Hi to all.

On my Dell OptiPlex 755 E6550 2.33, I've had intermittent issues with the headphone socket suddenly stopping working for quite some time, sometimes problem is auto detected and fixed, sometimes I download a driver or three to resolve. This time nothing is helping no matter what drivers I've tried. Have Win 7 Ultimate installed with just on-board sound. No sound or audio shows up in device manager? Are 755's fickle with on-board sound or just too many sound drivers installed? Any ideas please.

Check the USB device section in Device Manager and see if any of the entries there have a red "x" or a yellow "!" mark next to them. I suspect they will probably show as alright. To update your USB connections right click on each entry in the USB section and select "Uninstall" (answer yes or okay to the prompt that comes up). Once they are all gone close device manager and reboot. Windows will reinstall them for you. Let us know if that gets it going.

Hello folks,

Apologies in advance if this turns out to be the wrong forum for this particular problem, however I'm initially thinking it's an XP issue.

The problem relates to USB devices on my new system. My digital camera USB docking station is connected to my computer, however when I go into My Computer, I don't see the device. For example, on my old system, when I connected the USB cradle and camera, it would automatically appear in My Computer as the E: drive. This isn't happening with my new system.

I've checked device manager and all my USB ports are functioning correctly. The relevant LEDs on the cradle are lit which also which suggests the USB ports are fuctioning correctly.

Any ideas why my system isn't detecting the device? Is there an auto detect setting or something like that in XP that I need to set????

A:New system / XP not detecting USB device.

Normally you need to install the software that accompaied the digital camera. Can you connect a thumb drive or have another usb device to see if the port is working properly?

If the chipset driver for Intel are install. All should be detectable and driver for the OS installs. However, what led to this is not clear! What did you change and why are you switching OS's it sound like you are NOT using the OEM installed version of Windows and/or did clean install of something else which would easily create that problem.Best to call tech support for assistance if you're on Win 8.1 at least or Win 10.

I recently purchased a new digital camera. I brought it home, connected it to my computer by USB, and followed the instructions to upload the pictures to my PC. I had some difficulty realizing that my computer actually recognized it as a mass storage device, but eventually it worked. I was very happy.

Less than a week later I had some more pictures I wanted to upload. I connected the camera to the computer and nothing happened. The camera did not respond (it essentually turns off while connected to my computer), the E:\ drive did not show on My Computer, and when I opened up the software I use to upload the pictures, no mass storage device was detected as being attached to my PC.

I didn't install any drivers for the camera, so there really isn't anything to re-install. It's like the computer is completely unable to realize anything is connected to it. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling my USB root hubs, editing registry keys (http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;314634), uninstalling the uploading software (hey, it was worth a shot), restarting my computer a million times, plugging the camera into different ports (I read that plugging something in to the ports on the back of my PC that are connected to the motherboard directly would do the trick--this just caused a power surge and froze my PC), and performed an exorcism.

My Device Manager doesn't show anything at all as being connected to my computer. The E:\ drive doesn't show up. Nothing.

The fact that your PC froze sounds like a bad cable. The only other logical solution is a bad camera port. Take it to a Drug store self service photo booth & see if it works there. Many give the option of inserting the memory card or the USB cable.

There is probably nothing wrong with your PC.

I have a partial resolution to my problem!

Thanks to everyone who offered help.

First option was check that PuNP was started - OK. Later I discovered that Universal PuNP must NOT be started!

Second option was Aproposfix which I assume is to get rid of some specific spyware/adware/malware.

Third was I tried editing some permissions in the registry but I didn't really understand what I was doing.

Fourth was I ran sfc/scannow - whatever that is!

Also system was hanging on startups and shutdowns, sometimes needing the big switch to get out of it. Now you can click on IE or My Computer or Control Panel and it takes ages for them to load. Usually I find myself with about five instances of each all loading at once.

My problem is, pretty much, the mouthy thread title. I recently got rid of my Audigy SE soundcard (poor driver support, mediocre soundcard, etc) and am using my motherboard's onboard. It's functioning perfectly, all set up and everything, but everytime I reboot my computer, it (my motherboard) will (as my motherboard's BIOS tells it to, I cannot change this) disable the onboard sound device completely and only detect my graphics card as a sound device.

I uninstalled the AMD Audio drivers through Catalyst but Windows 7, being rather clever, picks my graphics card up as a sound device anyway. To fix the problem I either simply restart my computer again (what's the point of an SSD if you have to reboot twice anyway?) and have a 80% chance that my onboard is detected again or I go into device manager, uninstall device, and the next boot up is fine. I tried using a group policy but Windows 7 still managed to sneak around.

The problem is, of course, that after the next boot it will install itself and so the vicious cycle continues. I tried google but none of it seemed to apply to me.

Hello,

The only way I know of disabling the video card's audio portion is by going into Device Manager and setting it as disabled.

This happened to me when I found out that displayPort sends audio and video ala HDMI over the same wire on my HTPC.

So, right-click 'Computer' in the 'Start' menu, click 'Manage', then go into 'Device Manager' on the left and drill down to the 'Sound, video and game controllers' option on the right. Expand it by clicking the '+', then right-click the audio device you want to disable and click 'Disable'.

I would reboot the computer and test things out to make sure the video side is still working.

The guy there said it needed system pack 2 installing as it only had system pack 1. This did not solve the problem with the modem, which has since been rectified by obtaining a new modem that works! however, ever since on start up of the computer found new hardware window comes up, one for multimedia audio controller and one for unknown device. When i select to let windows intall it says it can not find software. Help!

A:Computer detecting multimedia device on start up since system pack 2 was installed

To make a short story longer, what is your computer? Dell, HP, Compaq, Sony? Model Number?... If you look in Control Panel, System, Device Manager, check to see if there are any yellow asterisks in the list. A multimedia audio controller is a sound card, and an unknown device could be something like a card reader or other USB device

I'm trying to fix an hp pavillion dv6704nr laptop running windows vista home premium. It has the little red x on the speaker in the lower right hand corner. The owner said it has been there for some months. I have tried downloading the current audio drivers for the computer but every time I try to install the driver, I get an error that says the device couldn't be found.

The first time i restarted the computer, after the driver installation failed, the audio came back and worked fine, until I had to restart the computer. Now I keep getting the same error and nothing i have found so far online has helped.

There are no yellow triangles in the device manager and the device list isn't showing the category for "sound, video and gaming etc." at all.

Please help. I did a search but the other threads didn't solve this problem for me.
Thanks in advance.

A:No audio device installed error and devices wont show in Device Manager

I see three different audio driver packages at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...ct=3646926#N661.You need to find the right one to install. If you install one and the system doesn't work properly...please uninstall it before trying the next one.Installing the wrong one won't do anything harmful to your system...it just won't do any good to leave it installed.Louis

The AUDIO FADE PROBLEM is an issue with this laptop and I am wondering if it is related to the above.
I have upgraded to the latest BIOS and drivers using the Dell Product Support pages.
Every other day I have to reinstall the Realtek Audio Device to get audio from streaming media.
The current Driver Version is 6.0.1.7908 from Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Date 12/08/2016 which is what it defaults to upon reinstall.
I suspect that for whatever reason Dell has not yet come up with a fix. Has it something to do with the fact that although I bought the laptop new, it had been upgraded from Windows 8 to 10? (A fact that I only discovered later)

For six months or so, I've had a problem where my laptop's audio will stop working. The red "X" appears over the volume icon in the system tray and audio will not function whatsoever. Until now, rebooting has been 99% successful at restoring the audio until it eventually fails again. But in the last three days, my normal quick fix no longer does the trick. Apparently my laptop can no longer find the actual Conexant 20672 SmartAudio HD hardware on the motherboard. This is a T520 laptop running Win 7 with SP1. The T520 is roughly six years old, so I realize the hardware's age might be a factor. There are definitely other issues related to its age (general performance sluggishness, inability to wake up from sleep mode, backup no longer works correctly) and I will eventually have to replace the laptop. But in the meantime, solving this persistent audio issue will buy me at least a few more months, so it's worth fixing to me. I've found dozens of threads that suggest reinstalling the device drivers, which of course I have tried several times using the drivers here. The problem: After rebooting, the device manager still doesn't list any playback device ("No audio devices are installed") even with both "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" checked. Similarly, when I run the 8aad14ww.exe device installer, it terminates with an error message ("Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the device for this driver").  Has the hardware itself ac... I would like to watch videos on my Windows laptop and have the audio play from my Android phone. Is this possible?

The reason I want to do this is my audio jack on my laptop seems to be broken. I'm often in the library or others places where headphones are essential.

A:How to Stream Audio on Android Device while keeping Video on Windows Device

That would be very difficult.
Lets first find out if your if your Audio jack is broken.
Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager are there any yellow flags? If so, these devices need drivers installed.
What is the make and model# of your laptop? Go to the manufacturers support/download drivers and type in your make and model# or service tag # and download the Chipset and Audio driver for your computer.

Hi Malware Specialist!

I started out in the "Am I infected?" Forum and a junior specialist sent me here to get further help, here is the link to the 4 logs I ran for him:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic428124.html/page__p__2477667__hl__polarsnowfall__fromsearch__1#entry2477667

For several days I have been trying to complete the preliminary steps required by this forum, I can not back up to windows/microsoft program (Backup Configuration not valid 0X8100029), but hopefully the two other programs I used were successful, namely cobaine and driveimage. At the end of the driveimage session, it frozen and there was "Globalroot\device" followed by various endings. Then it completed and said finished. Also it went to blue screen the firsttime I tried to run GMER and rebooted.

The main problems of slow programs from startup, no devices in device manager, no audio device and no printing capability began after I ran some kids software games that kinda of frozen the computer, although I believe whatever is making my computer upset has been there for awhile and may have something to do with remnants of roxio 2009 and other shared folders. In services it says "Configuration Manager machine selected for remote communication is not available at this time."

Yesterday:
Reliablity Performance Monitor stated failed system services: audio srv, EMDMGmt, Mccicm service, Shared Access ICS, SysMain, Tapisrv, Wudfsvc and LanmanWorkstation ... Read more

I have a 5-year-old Asus z70Va laptop. The hard drive is a PATA, and the system is running XP Home SP3. The problem I am about to describe started roughly a year ago, and has re-occurred at least 5-6 times.

I will be listening to audio (off the main hdd, not the DVD drive) when the problem starts -- usually streaming audio, though it has also happened twice when Outlook was playing a wav file as part of an Outlook rule I set up to flag emails from a particular sender. Interestingly, the error has *never* occurred when I have been playing a video file with audio.

What happens is that the music will sound as if it is getting "stuck" on one note or passage. It sounds distorted. It may pass quickly, but then will happen again ten-thirty minutes later, even if I stop and later restart the audio file (or stream). Once it recurs, I end up with this message in Event Viewer (System):

Event 9: The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period.

If I don't stop the audio immediately, the distorted and very discordant "stuck" audio continues, leading to a series of Event 9's before I can stop the player. But about every other time that happens, I *can't* stop the player; instead the computer freezes up (sometimes going to a BSOD), and when I restart I find that I now also have a series of bad block errors on a previously clean drive (usually 2 bad clusters).

So I end up replacing the drive, but then a month or two later the... Read more

A:Strictly Audio-Related Serious Event 9 Errors (The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0...)

The audio is just a coincidence, not a symptom.

Bad sectors are a sign of a hardware issue with the HDD. Software won't cause bad sectors on a HDD. I'd suspect a bad HDD. If you have replaced the HDD multiple times, then there is an underlying hardware issue (ie: motherboard/controller issue or power).

Also, if you have to "whack" anything, there is a hardware issue. It's typically a sign of a loose of faulty connection. Otherwise "whacking" it wouldn't do anything.

I am having a problem isolating an indication in the Device Manager with the High Definition Audio Device. I have Intel Graphics with this machine. The OS is W10 Pro. I loaded the audio driver for Windows 7 64 bit, but that did not make any difference. The Device Manager indicates that "This device cannot start (Code 10)" Driver Date 7/9/2015 / Version - 10.0.10240.16384 / Microsoft Driver Details Tab - Value = High Definition Audio Device From the Events Tab - (Information)Device HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8086&DEV_2804&SUBSYS_80860101&REV_1000\4&36c4990c&0&0301 requires further installation.     Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Hi @JS2045 The problem HD audio device you are seeing is the Intel HDMI audio device that needs a driver. I looked around for a W10 driver for the hardware ID you posted, and can't find one. You don't need that device unless you want/need audio through the display port. The only suggestion I can offer would be to try the W7 Intel graphics driver from your notebook's support and driver page, but install it this way...so that you just target the problem audio device... Download, but don't run this graphics driver... http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=4095873&swItemId=ob_127914_1&swEnvOid=4059 Download and install this free file utility.  64 bit is the second file listed. http://www.7-zip.org/ After you install 7-zip, right click on the graphics driver file you downloaded, and select 7-zip from the list of items. Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the driver to the folder name (sp64360). Go to the device manager and click on the problem Intel HD audio device needing the driver. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and see if the driver installs that way. Then reboot. If you explore the driver folder 7-zip created, and open the DisplayAudio folder, you will find the setup informa... My IDT audio works fine and my laptop's sound works fine, but when I hoop up my laptop to my TV through a HDMI cord I get my laptop's video output displayed on my TV but no sound from my laptop is output to my TV. I think the problem is because there is something wrong with my High Definition Audio Device. It has a yellow triangle next to it with a ! in the middle of the yellow triangle in device manager under Sound, video, and game controllers. And when I click properties on the High Definition Audio Device, it says, " This device cannot start. (Code 10) {Operation Failed} The requested operation was unsuccessful". Any help would be great. Windows 10 is CLEAN installed on a NEW HARD DRIVE. I DID NOT upgrade, windows 10 was clean installed from a disk.

Hi: Yes, that is the Intel HDMI audio device that is having a problem. See if this works...right click on it, and select uninstall. Check the Uninstall Driver box and restart the PC. Hopefully the HDMI audio driver will reinstall itself properly. If not, I have one other trick up my sleeve.

I was wondering if you could give me some advice on a current computer issue.

So, I've got my TV hooked up to my PC as an extra monitor via HDMI. Up until last night I was able to get audio from my PC to be played/heard/whatever through the TV.

Earlier in the evening, I saw a bunch of Windows Updates needing to be installed, so I installed them. One update was for the Intel Graphics Card, wasn't able to be installed because of Windows Update Error 80070103 (which apparently appears when Windows tries to install something already installed). I didn't think much of it at the time and proceeded with the post-install restart (TV's HDMI audio was still working at this point).

Shortly after the restart (upon resuming watching the video from before), I noticed that the TV's HDMI audio was no longer playing. I checked the Audio Device manager to see if it somehow got deactivated and found that it was no longer listed as a possible playback device. I double-checked to make sure unactivated devices weren't being hidden from view (which they weren't).

I tried un-plugging the HDMI device, restarting, re-plugging - to no avail. I try replugging the HDMI cable into a different port on the back of the TV.

I then try to do a system restore to before the installed the updates but that didn't work (Windows said they it was unable to restore anything so no settings were changed).

I try to re-install the Intel Graphics update via Windows Update but I get that Erro... Read more

If you have NVIDIA GE Force, that suggests it is the active video device, rather than the Intel. Check the Device Manager, Sounds section to see what is listed and if there are any error codes for the NVIDIA HDMI Audio.
