I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: how do I replace the keyboard on HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook

Here is the Service Manual: Manual Pages 5-23 to 5-29. Remove the battery and there are screws in there that allow removal of the button strip plastic piece above the keyboard after you flip it back over. Once that is off it is pretty self-explanatory and the pictures show the process. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi All, I recently damaged my keyboard by spilling a load of coffee on my laptop. Thankfully the motherboard is fine. However I am trying to replace the keyboard and have no idea how to do it. It is not a pop out one like I am used to. Here is a picture of the back: I have taken out all the screws but there are these black rubber things holding it all in. Do any of you know how I can get to the keyboard or is there an instruction video you can point me to? Thanks,Hass

I'm working on a hp pavilion zv5000 with malware problems. Does anyone have any experience with the keyboard on one of these? I practically have to pound on the keys to get them to work. And forget trying to get a capital letter. Are they all like that (which I would find hard to believe -- nobody would buy one) or does this one just have a problem?

A:Solved: Pavilion notebook keyboard

If typing normally on the keyboard doesn't work, then there's likely a hardware problem. To fix the malware, connect an external keyboard. If the owners of the system want to fix the keyboard problem, it would probably need to be replaced (assuming an external keyboard works fine).

I purchased a new Pavilion Notebook on 12/03/16 , includimg Windows 10, and installed Microsoft Office, since when I have been concerned with the performance of the key board. The keys sporadiclly require extra pressure and do not always transmit to the screen - I am not a "touch typist", but this is hardly "touch typing" and I do not have this problem with other machines. The extra pressure causes more noise than I would expect. This problem extends to the touch pad itself which sometimes requires the repeated or extra pressure. In short, there appears to be a problem with the keyboard/pad and its connecting with the screen. Is this a warranty issue, or is it a matter for  Microsoft (OS or Office)? Or is it a characteristic of the Pavilion model. Am I not using it properly?  I would be grateful for advice on this.  John 155,

Hi there, I recently installed an external Dell keyboard to use with my HP Pavilion g6 notebook (Windows 8.1, 64-bit). I also installed an external Microsoft mouse. I've been having problems where the keyboard suddenly stops working completely, or when I type characters some appear with accents or umlauts on them etc. It's 50/50 whether I can rectify this with a bit of backspacing, closing my internet browser etc. Most of the time the only option is to shut the laptop down, unplug the USB keyboard, re-add, re-start, and hope that it works.  The keyboard language settings are QUERTY English (UK), though this could just be referring to the laptop's in-build keyboard. I've also checked that the keyboard is installed and the driver is up to date in Device Manager. Perhaps I shouldn't be using a Dell keyboard - is that important? Or should it not matter? I've also noticed that the problems get worse when I've used my laptop normally (i.e. unplugged the external mouse/keyboard and just use the in-build keyboard and touchpad). In addition, things also start to go awry when I use Microsoft Word and then go onto my Internet browser etc.Really scratching my head for a solution so any help here is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, Turn off the notebook by holding down the Shift key as you click on Shut down, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Has this made any difference? Regards, DP-K

What system update, windows update, a driver update? This is pretty vague.Could the update be coincidence and the keys are broken? If you boot to safe mode with command prompt try them then.Maybe the keys themselves are damages in which case you need a new or new old stock keyboard. That's what I would do, test the keys in a command prompt window and if they don't work there get a new keyboard.Do you have access to a usb keyboard to see if it's the keys or some weird OS thing?

HP Pavilion dv6000 4gb RAM Have an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop with an Intel Core 2 T7200 CPU and am trying to get it to recognize 4gb of RAM. Am using Windows XP Professional as my operating system and am aware that if 4gb of RAM is installed correctly the operating system will only display 3.25 gb of RAM.

Here's my situation: I installed (2) 2gb chips and the computer wouldn't boot. So I downgraded to (1) 2gb chip and (1) 1gb chip and 3gb of RAM showed up as working on my computer.

I later heard that if I update the BIOS I can upgrade to 4gb of RAM. So I searched around for the lastest BIOS with no luck. The HP site for my computer only has a BIOS update for computers with AMD processors. I managed to find a BIOS that was compatible with my computer and reinstalled the 4gb of RAM and this time the computer did boot. BUT now when I look at the system properties it shows only 2.99gb of RAM which is even less than the 3.00gb that was showing up when I only had 3gb of RAM in my computer!

I know the 4gb of RAM will show up as 3.25gb in my system properties if it is being recognized correctly and my question is does anyone know where to get the correct BIOS upgrade for my computer so the RAM will be fully recognized? Originally I had BIOS version 16 so it would have to be later than that.

Thanks.

For my computer I have an HP dv6000 model notebook computer. I do not think that I have the dv67000 model though. Because that model has an Intel cpu. For my model I have an AMD Turion dual-core cpu. And it is 32-bit. Now what I wanted to know from you is this. I believe that this laptop has Wake on Lan support on it, because it has 2 NIC lights on the outside of the Ethernet adapter.

One is orange, and the other one is green. Now I have checked my bios for Wake on Lan, but there is no option anywhere to enable Wake on Lan. Maybe a bios update could be possible? I have also checked all of the options in my network adapter settings, and everything seems to be all checked and okay. And in my network adapter properties, I have an option to enable or disable Wake on Lan from there. I have even tried updating my network adapter drivers, but nothing seemed to work. Maybe I should update the bios, and see what happens.

And last but not least, I would like to know about virtulization technology. Like lets say that I am running Hyper-V on my HP laptop, or VMWare Workstation or even virtualbox, I can add as many Cpu's as I want to my virtual machine. Is that how the virtulization technology works? And can I download any driver that I want to as well? And how about Ethernet driver? I do not know if that how it works though.

I actually have another laptop which is an Acer Aspire 5733z. That cpu is 64-bit But I do not believe that this Cpu has virtualization technology ... Read more

Yes this np you will be able to find your drivers for DV6000 on this page -
Select software and drivers HP Pavilion dv6000 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

You can also finder w7 video drivers on 1 of these 3 sites -
Ati - Graphics Drivers & Software
Nvidia - Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
Anything Intel you can download here but i dont think they have any W7 drivers yet but the vista drivers work - Download Software, Drivers and Utilities

If you cant get a driver to install because of an OS mismatch error (wont install) do the following - match the OS the drivers are written for with the compatibility mode you choose eg vista with vista compatibility mode :

To install a driver OR program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

I am having problems with my HP pavilion dv6000, here are the symptoms:
It freezes at times durring normal use and sometimes on startup*
I get "operating system cannot be found" on startup
Streaming a video on a websight like hulu tends to make it freeze, this lead me to think the prob. might be ram related, the ram has a bit more than 2 gigs free of 12. A fee weeks ago the ram was very close to being full, and was showing as a red bar instead of green.
It will sometimes freeze and then the screen will go blue saying something to the effect of it's shutting down so not to hurt it's self
I had 1 or 2 trojan horses and 1-2 viruses, two of which where quarantined by AVG free 9.0 and the others by Avast free Antivirus, although I do not recall what viruses they where.
To (try) fix the problam I downloaded 500+ mb of windows updates, did a compleat disk defrag 2x, scanned the computer for viruses, Trojan horses etc with Avast and AVG ( both up to date free editions). The computer has done several system restores and something else after it tries to start unsuccesully.

The most vulnerable part of any PC is its hard drive; it's the only mechanical (moving) part in a computer. Operating system not found is a message displayed when the computer can't find an operating systems on any hard drives, also indicating that it may not be seeing your hard drive at all. Run the appropriate hard drive diagnostic tool from here: http://carrona.org/hddiag.html

If the hard drive does end up being the cause then you could replace it yourself for much cheaper than bringing it to a shop.

A:want to upgrade RAM on HP Pavilion dv6000

Hi: I have attached the link to your service manual. Page 1-2 states you are already at the max with 2 GB. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01035677.pdf If you know someone who may have a 2 GB PC2 5300 chip, you can remove one of your 1 GB chips and see if it works, and reports 3 GB. If it reports 3 GB, then it would report 4 more than likely. The chipset supports up to 4 GB of memory, but the BIOS may not allow it, and there are no BIOS release notes that add support for 4 GB of memory, so it would have to be an experiment on your part. Installing memory is relatively easy. read Chapter 5 of the service manual for how to do it. Specifically chapter 5, starting on Page 5-12. Remember to remove the battery and A/C power before taking anything apart. Paul

hello,  History: i have buy a notebook before one year. it works perfectly for me till one day. One day i turn it on and it shutdown by itself. I go to the technician for notebooks (before in my country we do not have HP store) and he tell me that my notebook has two ribbon cables under keyboard broken. One is for quick launch buttons, and one is for power button. One cable (for quick launch buttons) i buy by internet in ebay store, and i am looking to buy another one, that for power button. Problem: one day before those two ribbons cable broke , i have chang/upgrade the bios version. The name of old version if BIOS i do not remmember but the new version that i have upgradet is F.3D. The day after after i do this upgrade, i found out that those two ribbons cable are broken. The computer does not work correctly, i push the power button and when the computer starts after 5 seconds it restart it self , and this thing repeat and repeat and repeat all the time. In the time when i change one ribbon cable (for quick launch buttons) , it works very good, for a very little time maybe 3 days. and after 3 days start to work in that way start-shutdown. Today i tryed to turn on and for the first time it works, but first i have receive this data: Phoenix BIOS 4.0 Release 6.1Copyright 1985-2005 Phoenix Technologies Ltd.All rights reserved BIOS version F.3DCPU stepping = Unknown  1600 MHz <---  BSP info, 2 cpu's Detected2048M System R... Actually in my experience, those two errors are not serious if this is the first time it booted since you did the upgrade.  Date and Time have been reset so you just need to go in and enter it in again.  The checksum is because some of the settings have changed with the upgrade, others have reverted to a default and they don't match with the last known good setting that was stored in memory (because it was from the old bios).  Going in and making any changes that need to be made and then saving your settings usually gets you going.  However if you boot it again and this error keeps coming up, then you may have a bad CMOS battery that isn't holding a charge or a pooched firmware upgrade.

Hello!I am using a HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook, with a 32-bit Vista business, 2 processors of Genuine Intel with 1.73GHz each, and only 1GB of RAM. I would like to upgrade the RAM to 4GB, but I don't know if that's possible, and/or how to do that. I hope you guys can help me.Thanks.

A:How to upgrade RAM on HP Pavilion dv6000 ?

We need to know the exact model number from the tag on the bottom of the laptop. You can then just check by model number with Crucial at crucial.com to check max memory specs. Some of the dv6000s max at 2 gigs as you likely already know. 2 gigs is dirt cheap and would be a major improvement. With 32 bit Vista even if you install 4 gigs only 3 will be available for Windows to use. So 2 gigs is your best bet anyway. The difference between 1 gig and 2 is huge, the difference between 2 and 3 is negligible, in my opinion.

Hey folks,

I've had my HP for 2yrs now and it's always been fine until the last 6 months or so when the battery life was slowly diminishing when it wasn't connected to the charger.

Anyway got a new 12-cell battery and ever since then my laptop's suddenly switches off due to overheating.

It got me thinking that that battery may be responsible?

However the laptop would overheat before this change but it never automatically switched off.

Any help?

Thanks, Naaila

A:Hp pavilion dv6000 overheating

Buy a can of compressed air and blow out any dust from the vents and fans.

The DV6000 is part of the heavily flawed line of HP models that has critical over heating and failure issues. Se if yours is one of them: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us

I'd also strongly recommend a BIOS model for the laptop even if its not one of the affected models, for the affected models its a must or you'll eventually end up with a non-functional laptop: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Look...pe=s-002&h_query=dv6000&submit.x=0&submit.y=0
Make sure to let the laptop cool down completely before doing the update.

After doing that if the laptop still has issues then maybe there is an issue with the new battery or due to its size its increasing the inherent overheating issue. Your 12 cell battery, is it a physically bigger battery?
