Preferred Solution: Windows 8 Enterprise system properties window closes immed

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

HP Pavilion dv7

Bought January 2009
not sure if I have Vista update2, can't access System Properties to find out.

My issues started last night. I noticed that my Sidebar was showing but nothing was in it. I went to properties and there were no gadgets listed. I tried downloading a *new* gadget but it wouldn't load. I restored my computer to 3 days ago. Still had the same problem.

I also realized today that I have no access to Admin functions. I can't right click my Computer icon and access system properties. I can't get the update Windows icon to check or update my windows. I can't access "User Groups" from the control panel.

Also I have been getting two error messages consistently:

The Volume Shadow Copy service used by System Restore is not working. For more information view the event log.(0x81000202)

Please close System Restore and try again.
AND

MMC cannot open file c:\Windows\System32\CompMgmt.msc
I did go to the run window and ran the following:

net user administrator /active:yes

I restarted and the Admin account loaded. HOWEVER, when I went to see the sidebar, again it was empty *and* I had no access to system functions.

I am at a complete loss as to what to do. I noticed that the computer has some of the symptoms of the Conficker virus but I have a good protector and I scanned my system and it said it was virus free...

That is at least enough information to get started... Thank you in advance for any help you can offer... short ... Read more

Hello!! I'm not really new to this vista experience and all..i have no serious problems encountered before aside from a few lags in the system when it starts or opens an application.. but just recently, well yesterday, I tried opening my system properties to run my OS in very minimal visual effects since it was running a little slow again....I was not able to open the thing after right clicking the properties window in Computer...also i have tried going to control panel... but the only thing i can see after i click on the control panel button, is a window with an empty space named windows explorer and it suddenly closed after like a second or so....also i tried also opening my "personalize" on the desktop, and it has the same response as with my control panel....

what probably is the problem with my computer?? i read that it could be a malware, but my anti-virus could not detect anything at all...

Hello. I have a question. What is the best software or even the best means for me to make a real time copy or clone of my system hard drive on a separate physical disk to record up-to-the-minute system changes in the event one that my hard drives fail I would then boot into the other system drive on the good physical hard drive and without much effort be back up and running? NOTE: All my installed programs, folder files, files, settings, and configurations would be identical to the hard drive that has the separate system partition that just failed? No loss of work or data. I know I ‘may’ lose the work if not saved at that 'precise moment' the failure occurred, but any work that was saved seconds before the failure would still be on the copy or cloned separate system separate drive or separate system separate drive’s partition.

Paid or free program/software is no issue. I have Windows 7 Professional.

Any ideas as to programs/software you can suggest or a means I am not aware of?

Please reply.

Thank you!

(I've tried several search parameters to find if this problem was already submitted but couldn't fine-tune a search under 500 results!)

Using XP Home SP1, I intentionally open multiple IE browser windows - NO Popup windows. If I choose to close 1 browser window, all the active browser windows close!

Is this a scarcely identifiable configuration within IE or is this an indicator of another issues? I have popup blocker options on Google Toolbar, within ZoneAlarm Pro, etc. but can't find any setting which closes all browser windows with single click.

This problem has only established itself with the last week -- I haven't performed any software additions/changes/upgrades for a month!

I've used Calendar Creator 10 Deluxe for a couple of years without problems, but all of a sudden it crashes when I try to access the Properties window. This happens using both right click and the menu. The Properties window displays incompletely, and then the dialog box pops up that says "Calendar Creator has encountered a problem and needs to close."

I thought the calendar file was corrupt, so I created a new calendar. Same problem. I did a repair install. Same problem. I uninstalled, ran my reg cleaner (Advanced System Optimizer) and reinstalled. It still crashes when the Properties window comes up.

In light of that history, I suspect that the culprit may be Windows even though it only affects CC. I ran ShellEx View and could not see any handlers that came specifically from Broderbund or anything that is specifically for the .bcc file extension.

Any ideas on what could be causing this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone!

I tried to ignore this problem, but it has become increasingly frustrating when I have to work with files in Windows Explorer.

The problem is, when I right-click on a file and choose Properties, it takes 5-8 seconds to open the File Properties Window. Strangely, when I do the same with folders (Folder Properties) the window opens almost instantaneously as it should. I have tried to fiddle around with ShellExView but to no avail - after all, I assume that program is just for controlling context menu entries. I searched and googled but I couldn't find any similar problems, the closest I got was that software.

Do you know what's the problem? Thanks in advance!

Problem: IE closes immediately, with the pop-up that says, "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close..." blah blah blah. I sent the error reports. Running Windows XP, up-to-date as of 2 days ago, virus protection up-to-date and scanned a few days ago.

Background: This morning, when I connected to the internet, I noticed the little security alert shield icon, and it said it was downloading updates... I thought this was strange, since I have my settings on "notify but don't automatically download". Just a couple of days ago, this worked, I was notified that there were updates available, and I downloaded them & installed them. This time it downloaded automatically. It was a big one, so I had plenty of time to check it out (make sure something wasn't being hijacked), and I installed Sygate Personal Firewall. When I resumed my connection, SPF let me know that it was downloading from au.microsoft. whatever the rest is, I forget, I just remember it looked valid, so I allowed it. I installed the updates when they were done. I chose to restart later, since I was in the middle of something...

That's when trouble began. After rebooting, Outlook seemed to work okay, then I started up Windows Media Player like I usually do, and that gave me the "encountered an error and needs to close" message. I went to open IE and it gave the same type of error. Then Outlook decided to jump on the bandwagon and do the sam... Read more

Please run ?Services.msc? and navigate to Workstation service; ensure the service is enabled and started, or restart the service. Then try again.

Try using a domain administrator account (regarding appropriate permissions for network administration).
The local administrator account only has administrative access to local resources on the PC - i.e. does not have administrative privileges on the network
Regarding access and use of a domain administrator account:
I.e. you're a user at your company - so you should contact your companys system administrator regarding company policy.

I.e. if this is BYOD (your own device) it will probably not be joined to the domain.
If its a company workstation (laptop) - he will rejoin it to the domain.

As a rule of thumb - and may be confusing you here, do not expect yourself - even though a superuser with local administrative privileges - to finalize redeployment of windows, apps and data in a company domain. I.e. in a company you... Read more

Hello Gentlement,
Would I able to upgrade from Window 8 Pro to Window 8 Enterprise, I have searched Google but didn't find the answer, thanks.

A:Upgrading To Window 8 Enterprise

You can't - Enterprise is licensed as a volume licensed SKU, whereas Windows 8 Professional is a retail or OEM SKU. There's no upgrading from one to the other, they're separate purchases and separate installations (you can't change one version to another without completely breaking activation/validation either - hence they need to be installed cleanly and not as an upgrade attempt).

I don't remember the other addresses (one was a shopping cart and a log in page of the same site, another was a home page), but the one today was:http://www.iomega.com/na/landing.jspI don't remember if the other pages were JSP's or not. When I hit one of these pages, the status bar says "Opening ..." and the green status bar will be at various stages of full. Last time I tried the above iomega page, it got to full. The page then goes unresponsive (can't minimize, etc.) and the Task Manager eventually says "Not responding." Then, after not a too-long period of time, the browser window closes. Sometimes, all browser windows will close, but not always. Nothing else seems to be affected. I can immediately re-open IE, although it seems a little sluggish at first. But maybe that's just IE (I use Firefox at home). This is a Compaq Presario R3000 laptop, running WinXP Pro SP2, IE 6.0 SP2. I think I have all the Windows patches, but I'll check and make sure.I realize this isn't a lot of information to go on, but can anyone help? Also, if this should be on the WinXP forum, I apologize. Feel free to move it where it should be.Thanks,Tim

I assume your IE is working fine. Try reinstalling firefox to correct the problem http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ie.html

Can anyone tell me why when I try to minimize a window in IE Or even Netscape browser it closes the window entirelly. Upgraded to IE7 but it still does it there.

A:minimize closes window

Hi

Apologies for asking what may seem as obvious, but are you sure you minimize it i.e. and don't close it i.e. ?

Have you checked they're not minimized to system tray icons instead?

How did you remove IE, was it just through the Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs?

... every time I clik on any folder's 'File' menu button. It also closes all explorer windows if more than one is open and these also happen if I r-clik anywhere inside an explorer window (All other buttons Edit View Tools Help are ok). This happens on all explorer folder windows that I navigate to. The attached image pop-up appears and all open explorer windows close when 'ok' is cliked. I have never seen it before and do not know what it means.

Guard pages for the stack are typically used to detect when more memory should be allocated for the stack. Usually temporary variables that only live during the run of a function are created on the stack.

Have you rebooted the machine since this error? If not I would reboot and see what happens.
Otherwise I would try is a restore point if you have one available.

I'm trying to help someone out with a problem they have:

In both IE6 AND Firefox.. his browser window will close automatically when he tries to view a flash object. No warning, no errors.. it just closes.

He has already reinstalled Flash.

He has already done many many scans for scumware and viruses. no results.

He has scanned his computer for corrupt windows files. nothing.

Any suggestions?

A:Browser Window Closes

In Internet Explorer try this...go to Tools...Internet Options...Advanced tab - then click on the Restore defaults button at the bottom of the window.

Does this fix it in IE?

Also, you can check the other tabs to see if there's something there that might have been overlooked.

Once you find it in IE - it should be easy to find it in Firefox.

I recently upgraded a laptop to Windows 8 Pro from Windows 8 Standard.  The sole reason I upgraded to Pro was to be able to join to my companies domain, but when I go to switch from the default workgroup to the domain in System Properties, the entire
domain box is completely grayed out and inaccessible.  I am running the command from a local administrator account on the computer with the appropriate permissions, not from a Live ID.  I can access everything on the network just fine (aside from
the network drives, obviously,) and I can ping to the DNS server and get to the Internet.  There are no connectivity problems.
The upgrade was successful the first attempt, and as far as I know there were no files corrupted in the process. My guess is that there is some configuration file that the upgrade failed to change somewhere, but I'm really not sure what exactly the issue
is.

Thanks.

Try using a domain administrator account (regarding appropriate permissions for network administration).
The local administrator account only has administrative access to local resources on the PC - i.e. does not have administrative privileges on the network
Regarding access and use of a domain administrator
account:
I.e. you're a user at your company - so you should contact your companys system administrator regarding company policy.

I.e. if this is BYOD (your own device) it will probably not be joined to the domain.
If its a company workstation (laptop) - he will rejoin it to the domain.

As a rule of thumb - and may be confusing you here, do not expect yourself - even though a superuser with local administrative privileges - to finalize redeployment of windows, apps and data in a company domain. I.e. in a company you usually don't control
access to payrolls etc. (you should not have that kind of administrative configuration access - even if a company owner you could mess things up giving "unauthorized" access. Even a domain administrative account is not used as a "user" account - only configuration).
