Solved: Firefox taking forever loading pages

Q: Solved: Firefox taking forever loading pages

Hi guys. I'm having some wierd problems with firefox. I don't recall/remember these ever happening when i first used it. But I notice that in forums, for example, if one image is repeated multiple times, it will actually go through the trouble of loading each one, one by one.

In internet explorer 6 and Opera, the very same pages load HELLA fast.

I have a Cable internet connection (by timewarner/roadrunner)

I'm PRETTY sure it was never like this before. Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Solved: Firefox taking forever loading pages

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Could I possibly be infected? I am having problems with accessing any and all webpages. At first, I thought it was just a Mozilla issue, but the same problems occur in Google Chrome and IE. I will type in a URL and press enter and sometimes it will take forever to load, and if I click on the link again, it will bring it up instantly. It seems as if it is stalling. And other times, if I click on the link for a second time, it will say "done" on the bottom left hand side, but it will certainly not be done! I have been having this problem for weeks now and it is driving me crazy!
I have run Spybot, Adaware, Spyware Doctor, Malwarebytes, my AVG antivirus scan, and the free Symantec one on the website. Nothing has been found wrong!
I tried restoring my computer to 4 different restore points but they were all unsuccessful.
I tried uninstalling Zone Alarm, thinking that was causing the problem, but nothing changed. I had k9 web protection on my computer, but uninstalled it weeks ago and I am still having problems. I have the same problem running my wireless or using an ethernet cable; on my network and at a friend's house.
Please help!

IE is taking a long time to load pages. For the heck of it I installed Netscape to see if it was that slow there too and its not. Netscape loads the pages almost instantly. For example, when I input ebay.com it takes IE close to a minute to display the page where Netscape only took 5 seconds.

Whats up?

Plus, when I try to access the Help and Support in Windows XP it takes forever to load.

Any ideas?

Have you tried reconnecting your router, perhaps the problem could lie in your internet rather than your browser. Also try downloading another browser (like google chrome) and see if it makes a difference. Otherwise just re-install IE9 and see if it helps.

Hope you get it running--Gilroy

That's an old version of HiJackThis that was released long before Windows 7 was released.

Uninstall it and then replace it with HiJackThis 2.0.4.

If you go to Control Panel - User Accounts, then change the UAC setting to "Never Notify", then restart the computer, HiJackThis will work properly without displaying a warning message.

On all browsers my pages will not load most of the time or may start but freeze shortly after. It is also taking forever for the browser itself to load. Chrome seems to be the worst. In my previous post after running a program and reboot I got a floating box "Input Not Supported" box that bounces around the screen like a screensaver and stays on top of everything else. I also noticed I keep hearing clicking noises from the speakers also. Thank you so much for your help.

After my wife inadvertantly clicked on an unknown e-mail attachment, I have been expriencing ongoing problems with my PC.  The first issue was that when clicking on IE, the home-page was/is taking upwards of 3 minutes to load.  An error message is being generated stating 'The webpage is not responding - Recover webpage'.  I am finally able to launch the page, and any pages after this launch immediately when clicked.
Further to this, I realised that there was also an issue with Adobe Reader.  Deciding that I would simply re-install it, I uninstalled using 'add/remove' in the Control Panel, but when I attempted to re-install it, no matter how I tried, I just couldn't.  If I choose the 'save' option, then attempt to run the .exe file from the 'Downloads' folder, the .exe file disappears (to the C:\Users\Lee\AppData\Local\temp folder). If I try to launch it from the 'temp' folder, I can see that it's running in the Task Manager, but the install prompt screen never shows.  I have also attempted to install whilst in Safe Mode (with networking), but am then informed that the 'Windows Installer isn't running'.  Attempting to start Windows Installer up in Safe Mode (with networking) generates an error message stating... Only in the morning, is gotten worse gradually, and taking up to 2 hours to finally get firefox to load the yahoo home page. Outlook express6 also won't retreive mail for the longest time. Then, when it finally loads its fine for the day. I have run antimalware, security essentials scans. Nothing helps. Then later in the day, I tried Ccleaner, but to no avail. I tried to disable unnecessary items in startup utility. Unable to tell which items should be fixed when I run a check in ccleaner for the registry. Afraid to try to fix items in there. Wonder why the computer only goes crazy slow in the early morning? Once it starts loading firefox, it is fine and fast for the day. This is killing my shop production in the morning. Hi folks,

having problems with IE and firefox.

It seems that over the past couple of days Windows has had a lot of updates and Firefox has been upgraded also, and since the 17th of Dec '09 I haven't been able to connect to some websites (example being www.uk.msn.com), but others appear to be fine. It's the same problem with the same websites/webpages for both IE and Firefox. But, the weirdest thing though is that the aol browser (which I normally never use as I hate it) appears to be able to connect fine to these sites ( ???? )

My comp is a Dell pc using XP, i have Avast as my antivirus software, and I'm using Windows firewall

I have an account with Aol to connect via broadband to the web

IE is currently version 8.0.6001
Firefox is currently version 3.5.6

Things I have done,
I've checked for spywear & malwear with no unusual results
I've scanned for viruses again with no results
I've cleared cache, cookies and histories for all the browsers
I've done "system restore" to a time before the problems started
I've repaired my broadband connections with the web

I've just tried in IE
'Internet Options' -> 'Connections' -> 'LAN Settings' -> to uncheck the proxy server option but it was already unchecked

I have also done TRACERT in the command window to www.uk.msn.com and these are the results

I use Win10 on a fast broadband connection (100Mbps) will lowish ping rates.

I notice that more and more web sites are taking a long time to finish loading. They start very fast indeed, but are incomplete and it can take up to a minute before the screen has finished jumping around as it re-renders itself. This appears to be caused by the site pulling-in images from third party sites, especially for adverts.

This has become a real inconvenience. Is this the fault of the website developer? Is there a better way of feeding-in these third part elements? Is there anything I can do my end to improve this?

I am on a 4G connection and someone suggested I change a buffer setting on the router? Anyone comment on that?

A few days ago my firefox browser, which for no apparent reason at all, just seemed to slow to a stupendously very slow loading of pages. 'Google Chrome 49' has been terminated to prevent execution of malicious code. Please check your computer for malware and software updates
As it happened, it appeared to be because of a conflict somewhere in the Google Chrome, Trusteer Rapport and Hitman Pro Alert combination, and so the only way was to change the settings on Hitman Pro Alert as advised and shown in my thread:
However, there was no malware or virus detected by my own Avast or Malwareware bytes tools, and the tools used as instructed in the thread also showed my system to have none. Also, google chrome works fine, and my computer has not slowed in any way. My fir... Read more

i dont know where exactly to put this since it spans such a massive amount of software and hardware anyways:

I have a Dell Inspiron M1050 with an AMD Triple Core (2.3 Ghz) and an ATI Radeon 4250 HD Integrated.
4 Gb RAM
500Gb HDD
Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (obviously)

so, ive had this laptop for over 3 years, i know its past the expiration date. anyways about 3 months ago it started getting the .wav explorer hang issue, where windows 7 tries to read .wav data and cannot support it therefor causing explorer to freeze. this was annoying but i fixed it by editing the Registry so it no longer is allowed to read .wav information.

After doing above however i realized that it was time for my annual Format and Reinstall. i completed that, updated everything, i have my 6 programs i actually keep on the computer and for some reason its incredibly slow. when i go to My Computer it will hang for a sec before loading drive info, and when i click to enter the drive it will freeze every other time. other weird symptoms were the drive pictures, in the left hand side (images for my pictures, music, etc) did not load. programs are taking forever to run, they run poorly randomly. and the worst is that webpages, completely randomly, wont load. itll be stuck in a loading loop. i run google chrome, but it doesnt seem to be software related. i have 15ms ping, 15mb down, 2mb up. so not internet.

How close did you come to the perfect install in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7?

If there is much variance I'd do it over, wiping the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command.

Pay particular attention to how drivers are handled in Win7 as it's not at all like XP.

Once you get a perfect install you can save a Win7 backup image as described in tutorial so you never have to reinstall again.

So I decide to go to CCleaner and due a daily sweep of useless information when it takes 10 minutes more than it usually does to clean, so I look at what it erased and there were hundreds of little temporary files from internet explorer (somebody else in the household uses it because they don't listen), however I looked at my HJT log to see if anything unusual was there, and it was just the same as every other day.

Norton takes forever scanning this

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files
...and i mean like forever.

Unchecking 'Hide protected operating system files' i have found a huge amount of used space there. Properties shows there is
72.0 GB 77,347,987,456 bytes) 1,568,848 Files, 80 Folders

Can i clear this up safely and reclaim any of that space? The biggest file i can see in there tho is 28k.

Thank you.

Suddenly, about two weeks ago Firefox 10 stopped loading web pages. The "connecting" circle keeps spinning and absolutely nothing happens. I love Firefox and have to say that this is one of the most bizarre computing frustrations I've ever experienced. I have Thunderbird email and may have found a temporary way around it: I right click on "Reload tab" on the website tab I'm trying to access. I have to do it several times for it to connect to the site. I uninstalled FF 10 and reinstalled 9 to see if the problem persisted: it does.
I actually had to use Internet Explorer (!) a few times to be able to access the various websites, and I downloaded Chrome as a temporary stop-gap measure in case FF doesn't work at all. Although I don't want to use any browser but Firefox, this malfunctioning is getting me down a lot; I might be going to Chrome permanently. What can be causing this vexing problem of web pages not loading? [I have Windows 7 Profession 32 bit SP1] Thanks for your ideas. ec

First and foremost, a BIG thank you to anyone who helps me, as I know this is a freee service and there are people out there charging good money for this exact same thing! So, yesterday while on the internet (IE) I suddenly noticed that the pages stopped loading and instead were acting as if my connection had given out. This was not the case as my connecton was fine, and I eventually found that Firefox began doing the same thing after a few hours. I realized it wasn't the Firewall either since it did the same when that was disabled. This is when I became a little suspicious and ran MBAM, which couldn't update because of some error that had to do with "user not allowing to connect to internet" or something like that. That was when I realized that it's a likely virus. I still ran MBAM however and even Avast, but neither found anything. Also, I am running Windows XP and this is a desktop computer (I'm posting from a laptop now).

I downloaded Firefox last night as I've heard great things about it, particularly after my battle with Begin2Search. However, it's not loading pages- at least not with any workable speed. I'm able to get into my yahoo mail okay, but any other pages I've tried to reach with it- including this one- take so excruciatingly long to load that I end up using IE anyway. I have SBC DSL and I think it's something in my computer that tends for pages to load slowly anyway (sometimes have to hit refresh multiple times) but IE will at least load the pages after a few refreshes. Firefox doesn't seem to respond at all.

Is there any way to fix this or do I just concede and reset IE as my primary browser? :-/ Also if anyone has any ideas about the slow page loading in general I'd be very happy- it's quite annoying (although downloads work great, so I don't think it's a bandwidth issue..we do have a router if that makes any difference).

A:Firefox 1.0.1 not loading pages

The router should makes thinks run faster, does it have the modem built in or as a seperate external device. I would check all the connection settings for firefox, it is posssible if this is not set correcct speeds can be affected.

Can you try a ping on your router. You would need its local IP address though. You should be able to get this from its web interface. When you have the IP go "START" and "Run" type "cmd" then "ping XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX". If you get a really high time then you know there is a problem with you connection to the router

What kind of router is it, how is it linked to the pc's

I got the automatic update message yesterday, closed FF, and when I re-opened it it updated itself. Result: NO pages load. No errors, says "Done", and just plain blank. Error Console shows nothing. All pages load fine in IE. Nothing works, including Google.com. I renamed the old FF, re-installed a fresh copy downloaded from getfirefox.com, no help. I un-installed FF, then re-installed the fresh copy, still no help. Any ideas?

PS: I have tried FF's "Safe Mode", no help.

I just got windows vista and recently my firefox partially stopped working. I can access some sites such as the main google page and wikipedia. But I cannot access yahoo or facebook. Once I type something into the searchbar on google and hit enter, it won't show the next page. I have Norton 360 and I have configured the settings to allow firefox to run but I still get the same problem. I don't know what to do and I am fresh out of ideas. Any Help?

A:Firefox not loading certain pages...

It sound like you have content or keyword filtering enabled in Norton 360 that's blocking access to certain websites based on keywords. Go into Norton 360 and turn off content blocking and/or parental controls. See if this helps.

My hoimepage is set to Google. When I open the browser, it looks like Google is loading, then in the top tab, it looks like it loads again. This happens on some other Web sites, also. I re-set Firefox, but the problem continues. I do not have any add-ons or extensions in Firefox. I also tried setting the homepage to Yahoo, but this never seems to stop loading - the loading page wheel just keeps spinning. I have Windows 7 - 64 bit for the OS and have MSE, MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyWare and Spyware Blaster installed which I run every day (except Blaster which doesn't have a scanning feature). They don't find any issues, except SuperAntiSpyware which finds anywhere from 30 to 90 "threats" when I run it. What's the problem? Any "easy" fix?

Scan the entire computer with Malwarebytes in Safe Mode (after you updated the program)

A:FireFox not loading pages...

Not alot of info on this problem was given to better determine the problem.

But Firefox is not really a "Mission Critical program" have you tried just re-installing it yet?

Its possible a program setting is preventing it from accessing web pages or a bad addon.

I am having a problem with Firefox. I have only just got a brand new pc with Vista 64 bit OS, download most if not all of the updates and installed Firefox. When I'm using Firefox everything seems fine and then all of a sudden it will stop. I could browse plenty of pages and then the next time I try and load one it does nothing, just a white screen. There are no error messages and if I close it and try and re-open it I then get an error message saying Firefox is already open, please close the current one first (or something along those lines). I press Ctrl, Alt + Del and go to processes and there is Firefox, but I click to end the process and nothing happens. Even to restart my pc is a lenghty process. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Many thanks

Hi, I'm getting a problem with Firefox where it won't load pages completely, sometimes if I go on Facebook and there's more images than usual in my news feed some of them will not load completely or will not load at all and at the bottom it says "Done". Half the time when I'm loading images alone (Right click: View Image) and the image is a medium to large sized photograph it will stop loading and I'll get the "The connection was reset" message, this is more recent and it used to only happen when I tried to load several images at once.

This is driving me nuts as I download desktop sized PNGs on a regular basis, also I should mention that I'm on Dial-Up and this problem seems to be time based as it doesn't happen when I'm freeloading off my friend's Broadband.

I've been wrestling with this problem a while now and none of the solutions I've found so far has worked.
I'm having problems with IE 11 & Firefox 27.0 displaying web pages properly. I get tons of "This page can't be displayed", "The website declined to show this page" and additionally in Firefox only - "The connection was reset". but I can refresh the page and it loads correctly. I'm up-to-date as far as Windows Update & Flash Player are concerned.

Also, IE plays videos on youtube with no problem but can't play them on vevo. Interestingly, I added vevo to IE 11's compatibility view and got a popup saying "Looks like you're using a version of Internet Explorer that we no longer support. Please upgrade to Internet Explorer 10 or later, or try using a different browser, and come back to VEVO.com to start watching new and classic videos".

Firefox plays videos on both youtube and vevo without problems.

Anyone have any ideas on what's going on?

A:Web pages not loading properly in IE & Firefox

Hi welcome to SevenForums,
Update your browser is common for a website that doesn't recognize comp-view when it's being used by Internet explorer,
Press the F12 key when you get the popup message and verify what is being used,
For ie9-10 Click Browser mode and check ie10 if not checked.
You might see this to get rid of what ever comp-view lists that exist on your machine,
This applies to All versions of ie,

Can you give an example of a website that doesn't appear right? What addons do you have installed in FF? I know of at least two that will have this effect on pages (by design). They are Adblock Plus and NoScript.

Hi, I've been having a problem for over a month now. My internet browsers will not load certain pages, or if they do they will only load the background color or border. Since this problem has begun such sites as Filefront.com or IGN.com have not ben able to load at all. Other sites will load most of the time but occasionally the page will lock up and i can only access it after hitting refresh 200 times. When the browser will not load the page at all, closing the window or ending the process will cause windows to crash and reboot, without fail. I have been doing endless scans for rootkits and viruses/spyware, to no avail. I know that a while ago I had the Trojan.Zlob virus, but that seems to be taken care of with the more than 10 different types of scans i have been running. I know IE is buggy but this also happens to Firefox and I need to use IE to access my college account. I tried adjusting the MTU, but that didn't work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A:Ie6 And Firefox Will Stop Loading Pages

Is your isp Virgin? Im having the same problems with access to different sites. Sometimes this one wont load then all of a sudden it will. Ive tried all virus scans etc but cant find anything. I think its something to do with the isp because people i know with other isp's can access the same sites straight away with no problems what so ever.

Within the last month a co-worker's laptop suddenly began to experience page loading problems w/ IE6. Seems that after a few minutes of activity online the browser would suddenly stop loading webpages. Didn't matter what websites you had been to, which browser you were using, or how you accessed the web. You can even be downloading a file and the download will stop. To me it seems like there is something timing out or some cache or other file is getting "full", causing pages to stop loading.

Here is the setup:

HP/Compaq nc6120
WinXP SP-2 (all updates installed)
IE6, IE7, FireFox
Verizon aircard, SBC dsl

System originally had IE6 and worked perfectly for 6 months. About a month ago when browsing for about 5 minutes or so (with no problems), the browser would suddenly stop loading webpages, but the IE would not freeze. Pages that were already cached could be reloaded, but if there was info on the page that needed to be refreshed, the unable to load page error would appear. I noticed the progress bar would go 1 mark, then stop, almost as if the connection was lost. Shutting down all IE6 windows and opening a new one made no difference. Breaking the ISP connection and signing back on did not solve the problem either. Only way to get IE to access webpages again was to completely reboot and sign back onto the provider. After it runs for 5 minutes or so, it starts all over. Doesn't matter if you are on DSL or the aircard or which browser you were using.
