I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Some hardware problem, but no way to tell from that info. You could try removing the main battery and AC power to it. Press the power button for 30 sec. Plug AC in only and see if you get anything happen. Could be as simple as the AC adapter is defective but all guessing with technical tests

Both usb and ps2 keyboards work when going into bios or using a OS on a disk, yet will not work after windows boots. Every other thing works great... usb mouse, joystick, etc. I have uninstalled keyboard in safe mode, then rebooted. I tried a repair with OS disk. No software problems. Running lots of mal-ware protection. Using on screen keyboard is getting old fast. Has been this way for awhile as I keep expecting other problems and then I'll have to do a OS reinstall...last resort. But no other problem have surfaced, so I keep putting it off.

Would really appreciate suggestions. Scott

Hi...I've got this weird problem:

Whenever I try to start acrobat reader (both with a pdf or just the app) the program loads (apparently normally) but then immediately quits without any error message !!...it used to work perfectly normal...I do not remember making any change that could have caused this problem. What's more strange is that I tried uninstalling completely the reader and reinstalling but the problem is still there !!!!...the first time the problem appeared was when I tried to open a pdf within IE: the reader loaded but then i got the error "Couldn't find Acrobat Reader"

btw I'm running windows xp...and thanks to microsoft, windows is refusing to restore my system to a previous date !!!!

please help me solve this problem its really really important coz I need to open very important pdfs

So, I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and the installation went smoothly. Everything worked, it installed fine, and then it restarted for the, or at least what I assumed to be, the last time. When my PC turned back on, it ran just fine, went to the boot screen [Windows logo at top center, loading circle at bottom]. Then, after a few seconds, my screen flashed black for a second, then turned back on. It kept loading, then it froze and then the monitor turned off and gave me the [POWER SAVING MODE] screen. But the most weird thing is that the computer itself never turned off. The fans kept running, it never shut down. It would also not respond to the power button to shut it down. The only way to "turn it off" is to switch the power supply off. But also, very odd, at least with my limited experience, was when the power supply was turned back on, the computer didn't immediately start up. I had to manually turn it back on, and it did the exact same thing.

I have no idea what is going on, and I would really like some help.

Thanks!

I am setting up a new computer for my sister. I have an ASRock K7VT4A Pro board with an AMD Sempron 2800+. My problem is after it is all hooked up it will start (sometimes) and run for 2 seconds then quit. Sometimes it will make it long enough to post and other times not. I've replaced the metal spaces for the board with the plastic ones and I don't think there is a metal on metal short. I put the processor in my computer and it worked fine so I know that the processor is good also. There are spots to change jumpers depending on what FSB your processor is and I have those in the right spot. Has anyone had this problem before or could anyone shoot me some pointers to try?

check the power switch hookup. there could be lots of causes, so if youre still stumped, taking it to a local pc repair shop would be a wise move.

Basically what the title says. I have a new computer which I spent about 1300 dollars on. I built it myself and everything ran fine for about 6 months until I tried to overclock it. The bios and overclocking are pretty ***** proof since the motherboard is fairly new. You literally hit one button from normal to overclock. Since then when I boot the computer up the computer comes on for about 3 seconds, the monitor doesn't react at all, then it shuts itself off for another 3 seconds then boots up normally. Any ideas what the problem is or how to fix it? I've seen some similar cases on here but they aren't exactly the same.

When i press the start button, it turns on for a moment, then shuts down and starts beeping. I have counted 8 continuous beeps, then a pause, then another 8 beeps, and so on. What is happening?
Also, my model is a Dell inspiron 15 5000 series.
Thanks in advance.

A:My laptop starts beeping when turning it on, but never properly starts

The system isn't detecting the display panel.
If the system is under warranty, call Dell. If not,
Check the connection between the display cable and mainboard.  If it's loose, reconnect it.
If there's evident damage to the cable, and it's a non-touch model, replace the display harness.
If it's a touch or tablet screen, the cable isn't separately replaceable.  In that case, the screen assembly needs to be replaced.
If that doesn't solve the problem, the mainboard is the faulty part and will need to be replaced.
If you need a reference to the service manual, please post the full model number (i.e., Inspiron 5521, etc.).

Hi -

I'm a beginner so bear with me please. I have a Sony Vaio Desktop which is probably 4 or 5 years old. It has Win XP. Last night I tried to do something I wasn't capable of - I went into the registry and I crashed the computer. I lost everything. This morning. I loaded my back up system disks and application disks. No problem. Then I started loading my own software and a few off the web like WordPerfect, Mozilla Firefox, AVG, etc. The last thing that I loaded was AVG anti-virus and I swear that before the computer went blank AVG said something about detecting a virus. Now the machine can't be loaded. It loads the first couple of screens that say Sony and then Microsoft XP (it gives the beep) and then the computer and monitor shut down. About 30 seconds later they power up and start the process of trying to sign on again. If it's a virus then I can't get on the computer to do anything about it. I tried to get in safe mode with no luck but I really don't know what I'm doing there. I have a call in for my computer expert friend, but he's no where to be found. I know the answer may require some complicated manuevers.

Any help that you can suggest is greatly appreciated. I use the computer for personal use and for volunteer work that I do. I really wish I had the bucks to just by a new one. Best Buy's interest is just too high.

Thank you

I was trying to remove Windows Defender this morning as I'm running MS Security Essentials. I thought the two programs might be conflicting with each other. MsMpEng.exe was using over 260K of physical RAM which I thought was excessive. At one point I suspended the MsMpEng.exe process while in Resource Monitor. My system immediately crashed. After rebooting, I discovered that I couldn't start Windows (7) again.

Thinking that I damaged one or more critical system files when I suspended MsMpEng.exe, I booted to Safe Mode with networking and restored Windows using a system restore point from yesterday. I was able to log into my user account after the system restored. Everything worked fine. However, my relief was short-lived: I wasn't able to log in again to my user account after re-booting without waiting fifteen minutes or longer. There are no earlier restore points I can use. Starting with the last known good configuration didn't work. I tried rebooting and running Startup repair. That didn't work either. The message it gave was that my problem booting was probably due to a change in configuration.

Shortly before the crash I ran Malware Anti-Malware Bytes and AdwCleaner. All instances of malware and adware were removed. After the crash I ran MS Security Essentials. No viruses were found.

Please advise if I need to upload a system configuration file, and if so, what program I can use to capture it to a file. I haven't done this for a while since before today, my system has b... Read more

Well you can't really 'remove' windows defender per se, but you can disable it. Also, windows defender is not an antivirus, but anti spyware. Essentials is anti virus.

1) open windows defender

2) Click Tools, and then click Options.

3) Click Administrator, select or clear the Use this program check box, and then click Save. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

also uninstall essentials after this. See if there's any improvement.

I have had my Lenovo IdeaPad Z410 since around January, and I have just recently expierienced the problem of the battery dropping to zero. What happens is my battery will be draining at a normal pace then all of a sudden my laptop will shut down and will not go back on as it thinks the battery is dead. If it is plugged when this happens then the orange battery low light will begin flashing and the message goes from saying "Fully charged (100%)" to "1% remaining (plugged in, charging)". This is quite annoying as I cannot take my laptop anywhere without fear of it randomly dying on me. I would assume I wouldn't need a new battery after only having the laptop for a few months. Also, if you are not familiar with this model, the battery is built in internally so I cannot try removing it and putting it back in myself. Any advice would be appreciated; I'd rather not deal with Lenovo's customer support unless I absolutely have to.

A:Lenovo IdeaPad Z410 Battery Suddenly Drops From 100% to 0%

hi LordMothim,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Based from your findings, it's possible that:
- the battery circuit inside is not working to unload the charge, or
- one of the battery cells have already reached its life span
- the chip that handles how the battery gets charge/discharge and checks the charge level of each battery cell (both are controlled by a firmware) is malfunctioning.

Batteries degrade overtime due to heat and daily use. If you're still under warranty, I recommend you contact lenovo and report the issue as you most likely need a replacement battery.

I recently bought a refurbished Dell OptiPlex 7010 SFF 3rd Gen Quad Core i5-3470 4GB 250GB SSD DVDRW Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit Desktop PC from MicroDream.Upon arrival, having connected it to the mains in the correct order, the pc switched itself on. I was too happy recieving it to care, but everytime since that I switch it off, 4 seconds later it starts back up.This was friday afternoon, Microdream tech support have failed to resolve the problem.Won't word this in detail, but I've performed every update imanigable, done the bios thing by switching the pc off and pressing F2 to disable something that was already disabled. I've gone through every device manager setting to uncheck/disable anything that could allow the pc to switch on. Power options, power management, you name it, i've probably checked and/or disabled it. I've tried pressing down the on button to switch pc off, didn't stop it.
It's been suggested on another forum that it might be something to do with the event logs and errors. I don't understand this. I've just done a windows diagnostics test, nothing wrong.
What am I missing?

A:My PC starts up by itself

You're not making sense. F2 only works when the PC is first powered on and it opens BIOS setup. It doesn't "disable" anything.
Sounds like the seller should be handling this, perhaps by wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Windows and all Dell's drivers for the specific hardware in your system.
www.dell.com/.../advanced
What version of BIOS? The latest is A25.
You can try clearing BIOS by powering off, unplugging and press/hold power button for ~15 sec Then open case and remove the motherboard battery, and press/hold the power button for ~30 sec. Reinstall the battery and see if that helps.

A:only starts sometimes

You could possibly fix it yourself if you got lucky. I've had similar problems. Could be the switch, but that's a long shot. More likely, it's either the motherboard or the power supply. Do you know if this is an AT or an ATX? AT computers have a switch that connects directly to the power supply. ATX computers have a switch that connects to the motherboard, which stays hot all the time, even when "off." If an ATX, it could be either. If the power supply is old, that might be the place to start. If you have some kind of multitester, you could test the switch to see that it actually has contact when pushed.

I need help. When i turn on my pc after about 14/15 minutes it's starts to use all resources even if nothing is turned on, and temps go up, reinstalling windows helped for almost 2 weeks now its the same again

A:Something starts using almost 100% GPU

Probably have to use Process Explorer from Microsoft to see which process is eating up the GPU.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/processexplorer.aspx

Once you open it, you can click on View ? Select Columns ? Click on the Process GPU tab ? and select all the boxes. Click OK and sort the list by GPU. Hopefully you can pinpoint what?s utilizing the GPU so much.
Also the driver installed just came out 5 days ago, is this when the problem started?

it seems to freeze, the small circle icon is going round but it won't go any further and I have to turn it off at the wall-plug and then switch on again.

When I switch it back on I do so in 'safe mode' and then 'system restore' which gets the computer working again with no problems all the time it's switched on.

Next day I have to go through the whole proces again!!!

Anyone?

Running Firefox

Thanks

Hi,
My PC sometimes starts by itself. I would turn it off, and it really is off. And after 30 minutes, an hour or more it turns itself back on!!! I have posted related questions here, which I thought had solved the problem:

http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/1113209-win-7-64-bit-win.html
It used to be the case that the PC would reboot immediately after shutdown. Turning on the power states seemed to have solved it, but normally I don't turn off my PC for a long time. Now I do, and I see that it turns itself on after a time (not immediately after shutdown).

The problems really started when I swapped a bad motherboard, and installed 2 SSD's for dual booting Win 7 + 8.1. Not sure if EFI setting for Win 8.1 are causing probs for the non EFI Win 7.1.

Is this the power supply, can it be a cable, the motherboard, CPU, etc?? Or could it even be the powerlines of my house?

It seems like a Trojan Virus of some sort to me. i have come across this type of thing before and it was related to a Trojan, Run your Anti virus software if you have one, make sure the latest definitions are installed.

Hope this helps

I've got a new PC, Win7 Professional came pre-installed.

Now it's the second time that it has started itself while I was away. I hadn't even known that was possible!

Could that be the effect of some malware?
How can I find out what the stupid thing has been doing while it was active without me?

A:My PC starts by itself

Hello Esha,

Oh yes, there's several things that can wake up your computer to do whatever task.

You might check your wake source log in Event Viewer to see if it may reveal what is waking up your computer.

Wake Source - Read Event Viewer Log

Hope this helps for now,

Hi guys, I have a Compaq Presario CQ5500Y with an integrated NVIDIA video card solution. Ever since I used Windows Anytime Upgrade to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate, my Dell E772c monitors video resolution drops to 640 by 480 when ever I boot my PC. If you know anything about this please let me know. It is really annoying! (PS: I have the latest drivers for my video card)

A:PC starts up at 640 by 480

check your BIOS settings, also check your graphics properties, in control panel or right click on desktop. also you can try to factory restore your monitors settings

Hi, my pc starts up by itself apparently in a random fashion. I am running XP Proffessional version and have checked the event viewer for the times that it starts by it self and get the message "EAPOL service has started successfully". Any help would be appreciated as the only way I can stop it switching on is to turn it off at the wall. I used to be able to turn my PC off from the screen but am now prompted to turn it off using the on off button. thanks

This will sound familiar -Windows did not start properly - select from 4 options
- safe mode
- safe mode with networking
- safe mode with command
- last known setting
- start normally
When start normally is selected the unit starts and runs fine - till the next start-up (cold boot). suggestions? - I'm still a bit green with win XP pro. - Thanks

the problem is the cpu fell to the floor 1 ft from its place. so when i connected the cpu to the monitor and power it up. the fans are okay and it seems normal but the monitor don't detect any signal from the cpu so i can't see anything.

i tried to check the inside if some parts are loosen or not in its right place, they seem to be okay.

what should i do now?

before this happened, i was having a problem with the windows itself because it crashed when i downloaded something, it might be a virus. but the bios was okay and then the cpu fell to the floor now im not sure if the mobo is still fine. help me please...

A:Can't see anything when cpu starts?

Is the monitor getting any power? If not then try and reconnect everything again. Check that everything is well placed in the mobo.

If your monitor is getting power and still displays nothing it means there's a problem with the video adapter. If you have a video card, try and plug in the monitor tightly.

If nothing works, you may have damaged your CPU mate.

I found an old HP 98 and I hooked it up looking at the things that were on it. Then I unplugged the power cable into mine and later back again. About 10 seconds after I started plugging the cables into the back I heard a small pop. I'm not sure where it came from but I didn't smell anythign burnt. I tryed to turn it on and nothing at all came on. I opened it and everything look fine and nothing looked burned or different. I borrowed my friends PSU and it didn't work either. HIs worked with his computer fine. I tryed connecting my PSU just to the CD drive and it opened when I turned it on. But the HP's PSU doesn't open the CD drive.
I think this is whats it setup
PSU:115 Input, 160max Output
Intel Pentium III around 500mhz
128 system RAM + 32 extended RAM
Video-nVidia Riva TNT (HP Manufactered) 32mb I guess?
Audio-Riptide Audio Something
The motherboard is made by ASUS (HP Manufactered)

I also had problems similar to this earlier when I actually used this computer where it started and everything powered on for 2 seconds and then just shutoff. When I tried it again nothing at all. Somehow after 1 and a half months it worked fine again.

Thanks for the help

Hi, I have just fitted a motherboard in a compaq presario M2000. It turns on ok, but on screen it reads PXE-E61 MEDIA TEST FAILURE CHECK CABLE can anybody tell me What does that mean and what cable Thanks ivanhoe.

A:starts but not

Most likely it's not seeing the hard disk, and it's trying to boot across the network, that's what that error message is telling you.
