Pure reverse proxy server

Q: Pure reverse proxy server

Thinking of using IIS and URL rewrite for a pure reverse proxy server on a Windows 10 machine which will be routing traffic to 3 Struts2 Web applications using Apache Tomcat servers on Windows 10 machines.

Please let me know whether this would be a healthy configuration.

thanks

Preferred Solution: Pure reverse proxy server

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Am thinking of using a windows 10 machine with following hardware specifications for a pure reverse proxy server which will be routing traffic to 3 other web application servers on windows 10 machines.

Processor : Intel Quad Core i7-6700K
Processor Speed : 4 GHz
RAM : 32GB DDR4.
64bit machine
HardDisk : 500GB (partitioned with 200 GB in C: drive and 300 GB in the other drive.)
Operating System : 64 bit Windows 10

IIS and URL rewrite will be used for reverse proxy and application servers will be using tomcat apache and Java Struts2.

2 of the application servers will have maximum 5 simultaneous users and third one 10 simultaneous users.

Please let me know whether above specifications are good enough.

Thanks

I appear to be the victim of some piece of malware or virus that has added a proxy server setting that I am unable to get rid of. The main symptoms are that I am unable to change my proxy server settings in Windows 10. It appears to use this setting http=127.0.0.1:8080;. The result of this is that I am unable to do searches in the omnibar of Google Chrome (just takes me to a blank page) and I can't visit certain webpages, also if I am able to do a Google search the "Search Tools" button is missing.

I looked around on the internet and have tried a few fixes, I've deleted or changed the registry entries mentioned in Philip Turner's reply here: https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/446898-can-t-disable-proxy-in-ie10?page=1

I also changed the entry mentioned here: https://fixedit.itxpress.biz/2014/10/08/unable-to-disable-windows-proxy-setting/

Making these changes allowed me to change the proxy server settings and once I change "Automatically detect settings" to on and "Use a a proxy server" to off then the issue is fixed and everything behaves normally.

The problem is, once I restart my computer the settings revert back and are again unable to be changed unless I delete/change all the above registry entries again. I'm pretty sure that whatever did this is still on my computer somewhere and I need some help finding and eliminating it. Either that, or there is still some hidden registry entry that I am unable to find.

Hi folks,

I am using XP-pro. I am trying to get an application, which does not let you specify any network settings and ports, to use instead of the internet which is filtered and blocked by a firewall, a connection which i established via ssh on the localhost.

I am looking for an application which will route all connections to the internet (no matter which port or only specific ports) to 127.0.0.1:whatever-port.

I am not talking about the IE proxy settings here.

I am trying to setup a Win8 box as a "reverse proxy" web server using IIS.

The goal is as simple as it gets. I do not need subdomains to go to different servers, but rather to redirect all port-80 and port-443 (HTTP and HTTPS) traffic to http://localhost:2080.

I have been trying to get IIS to do that for a week now, without any success. I feel depressed and worthless
Is there any good soul out there who would be willing to explain me, in a few steps, how the above can be accomplished? Many many thanks in advance!

What does "pure server" mean in some games I've seen and played?

I'm guessing it's forcing some of the software into your system that'll make the game run more smoothly.

A:Pure server?

A pure server dramatically reduces cheating in games. Its used especially in tournaments.
It checks your game folder and gives the server a list of the files in it. If it has a file that the server does not recognize as part of the game, it will not allow that file to execute. If it recognizes it as a cheat, you can't join the server. It also checks the filesize, and sometimes the checksum, of game files that never need to be edited unless you are cheating.

Keep having this problem, even though i delete the file, it still appears again. This is only happening since i pasted this into a new autoexec.cfg file (see below). I did delete cl_downloadfilter "nosounds" however it made no difference.
Do you know which of these commands may be causing the error.
Also I know that to match pure servers you may need similar settings however are denied if hacks are found; there's no hacks below I think!! Any help would be much appreciated.

P.S. I'd be interested to know if anyone else gets the same errors when they try this. Be aware that it's only on some servers. On the ones were it does work it increases your FPS significantly

Hi

We have SBS 2003 which is the server for a small network (~70 users).
It's IP address is 192.9.231.202, DNS is 192.9.231.202. It's the domain controller, DHCP is enabled. Hostname is sbs01.xxxx.xxxx

In DNS reverse lookup zones for our subnet there 2 pointers for the server's hostname (sbs01.xxxx.xxxx) :

192.9.231.202 sbs01.xxxx.xxxx
192.9.231.0 sbs01.xxxx.xxxx

Is this right? The 202 entry will disappear about every 60 mins or so, I have to manually re-enter it. The only things to change recently were the addition of a nic to the server as the onboard one *possibly* developed a fault. The onboard nic is definitely disabled.

My boss thinks the 202 pointer isn't needed. Over the last few days I've purposely delayed re-entering 202 and i'm sure client pc's started to become problematic ie ages to logon, couldnt access mapped drives etc... however that is subjective and only my observation. It'd be nice to not enter it alltogether and see what happens, my boss has suggested doing this, but if it does go awol i will get the headache from users so thought i'd ask here first.

Cheers

Hi,

I've installed rAdmin viewer on PC1 and the rAdmin server on PC2.

PC1 (viewer) --------->>>>>> PC2 (server)

By using the viewer on PC1 I log in to PC2 and start applications etc.

Q1:
Is it possible to start a program via the viewer of PC1 remotely on PC2 that is in fact executed on PC1 ?

Q2:
Is it possible for someone sitting in front of PC2 to change something on PC1 (kind of reverse connection) while I'm not watching ?

Thanks for your help !

berber

A:Using rAdmin for a server -->> client reverse connection

rAdmin

Using rAdmin you are basically setting up a trust between the Viewer and Server
Although the Server can gain full access over the Viewer; the Viewer also is aware of any IP linking to it, and therefore could try to hack into the Servers IP (using another program), and thus cause issues.

Q1. No not without giving permissions (ie file transfer and chat)
Q2. The server has full control (normally) so they could do just about anything

Hiya
This is a spoofing vulnerability that exists in the affected products and that could enable an attacker to spoof trusted Internet content. Users could believe they are accessing trusted Internet content when in reality they are accessing malicious Internet content, for example a malicious Web site. However, an attacker would first have to persuade a user to visit the attacker’s site to attempt to exploit this vulnerability.
Affected Software:

• Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Service Pack 1
• Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 2

Note The following software programs include Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 (ISA Server 2000). Customers using these software programs should install the provided ISA Server 2000 security update.

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.
To download Network Monitor, please refer to the link below:

I'm seeking information on how to go about setting up a proxy server. Currently we deny internet access by machine. That works well if the employee at the machine has no legit reason to be on the internet but it doesn't help with employees that do need the internet just not all of it. Basically i'm interested in setting up something that can block by website. The router has this feature but only for four sites (really cheap router for now). Thanks for your assistance.

A:How to set up a proxy server

You simply install some proxy software on a machine and set up a firewall rule on the router that allows traffic only from the proxy machine. Configure all the clients to use the proxy.

Unless you have a fast connection and lots of clients, any old crap PC should be able to do the job.

Squid+Linux would be the most popular and logical choice, but there are other operating system and proxy suites that work just as well.

In most cases you can configure your applications to use the proxy as well. You will have to find out what the Proxy IP address and Port is to input to the settings. Example: IP->192.168.1.1:3128<-Port You may have to ask your Technical Support people for that information.

For Skype:

SKYPE-->Tools-->Options--.Connections-->Automatic Proxy Detection-->(change)-->Save

I hope this helps.

One of the win98 machines is the internet gateway with analog proxy server - internet sharing works fine - the problem is that some applications are not able to access the internet thru the proxy, ie, fresh download and internet play games (anarchy online specifically).

The error that fresh download presents is "connection refused, (error10061)". I have searched and only found references to this error referring back to i.e. 5.0 and below - I have i.e. 6.0 on all machines.

Any ideas???

Hi,

Possibly you'll need to open up the necessary TCP ports. For that specific application (Anarchy Online), you'll need to open the following ports:

80, 7012, 7500-7504

That info is found on the Anarchy Online Support site btw......

I've never really used AnalogX proxy, so I'm not sure exactly how to get to the TCP port settings, however, I imagine it would be accessible through a Firewall Tab or something.

The proxy is being set and enables by a program called e-Rewards Notify that you had installed at the time and I assume you still have it or it came in again with the latest download. I understand it's some sort of notification software for surveys/opinions. If you didn't install it intentionally then uninstall it and the proxy issue should be sorted.

Much as I can live without Incredimail and it's alleged Spyware, it's bloated E:Mails and it's inefficiencies, even after the company has been repeatedly informed that they are lacking in the most basic of Message Rules, my wife and kids love it !!!
In case you don't know, the Message Rules do not allow you to check if the E:Mail is addressed to you, and if it is not, then to leave it on the server, so I constantly get E:Mails forwarded to Outlook Express from my kids that are for me, but they 'accidentally' downloaded "a few days ago" ... yeah, and the rest !!! ... An obvious and presumably easy upgrade of their Message Rules would be the most obvious and easiest way around this, I've asked them numerous times but they certainly haven't taken my advice on board as there has been a recent new release with no changes to Message Rules !!!

So, eventually, to my workaround ... does anybody know of any (decent/cheap/free) software that will sit between my PC and the E:Mail programs and perform a similar service to Outlook Express's rules ?!? One of my users asked me if it would be all right to install a new E-mail client package called Incredimail, I checked out the http://www.incredimail.com website and noticed stellar recommendations from Cnet, ZDnet, and Tucows so I downloaded the demo to check it out. What I found in the user agreement for the software was pretty unbelievable, obviously the people who recommended this software didn't read it. The agreement itself is extremely long... but the attached excerpt from the agreement almost knocked me out of my chair:

"10. UNSOLICITED MATERIALS
Any confidential, secret or proprietary information or other material submitted or sent to IncrediMail, including without limitation via any Message sent by You through the Service, Site, or IncrediMail's physical mail and e-mail addresses, or in any other way, will be deemed to be not confidential or secret. By submitting or sending information or other material to IncrediMail or by posting information on any portion of the Service you (a) Warrant that you have all rights of any kind to the material and that to the best of your knowledge no other party has any rights to the material; and (b) Grant IncrediMail an un... Whenever I switch off win 8 and restart ie every day I have to reset the option Internet Options - connections - lan settings - proxy server - and clear the tick box. I have tried everything apart from reinstalling windows !!! can you believe. This has got to be a win 8 problem and has to have a solution - has anyone found it yet ??? Its driving me mad . It is not a virus , it is not a startup program , its not anything I can find Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to explain what a proxy server is and why I should be bothered to "enable" mine. Something which appears I have done without knowing why. I think I ran into the suggestion somewhere in my computer travels.

I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Dina

A:Proxy Server?

A proxy server is a program that acts as an intermediary between computers on your LAN and computers on the Internet. Proxy servers often have a cache built in to make web surfing faster. Some proxy servers also allow the filtering of web content or domains. Additionally, almost all proxy servers support logging.

Just like other internet connection sharing technologies, only one internet connection or internet IP address is needed to serve internet data to all of the workstations on your home network.

Workstations on your home network must request data (like web pages) from the proxy server to access the internet. The proxy server then fetches the internet data, checks it’s filters, and returns it to the workstation that requested it. Because a proxy server does all of the data requesting, each workstation must be configured to make all internet requests from the proxy server - not the internet. Sometimes software does not allow this sort of configuration and can not be used with proxy servers.

Since proxy servers are not a ‘transparent’ connection sharing technology, configuring a proxy server for more than basic web, ftp, news and mail functionality can be challenging for a beginner.

Okay well before I start I'm just going to apologize for my complete lack of computer knowledge so if I left out information you need to help me, just let me know and how to get the information.

Well, i wasn't having this issue before but I am now and I don't know why, but I can't do certain things on the internet, such as signing into my yahoo messenger or getting on my myspace account. When I troubleshoot it always comes up with something to do with my HTTP connection or my proxy server. Yahoo messenger told me to go into my Internet Options>Connections>LAN Settings and then to check the box saying 'use a proxy server for your LAN' and then click on advanced and verify my address and port. But there is nothing in any of those boxes. I have not messed with or changed any settings lately but it just started doing this. Can someone please give me step by step easy instructions on how to fix this? I would be so very thankful.

Thanks in advance,
Taylor
