Solved: Windows 2000 SP4- has modem and phone dialer- can't get modem to work- Help

Q: Solved: Windows 2000 SP4- has modem and phone dialer- can't get modem to work- Help

Windows 2000

I know I have the modem hooked up right, I know the dial up is hooked up right, It keeps saying there is no dial tone so I unchecked the dial tone detection and you could hear the modem dial up right away but it would dial once and then nothing. There is a phone dialer hooked up on this computer will that make a difference if it will dial out or not? there is only one place to plug the RJ11 line in. Most have the phone jack and the line jack this one doesn't. This guy had a bunch of spyware and a few trojans etc on his computer and asked it I would help him. I caught a bunch of stuff but I have to be able to dial up so I can update the programs I am running. Need some suggestions, Thanks The modem is a HCF 56K MCI Modem and like I said it is hooked up right you can query it and it gets answers and no dial tone but unchecking the dial tone detection box you can then hear it dial up but does it once and then nothing. I no the line is good.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I had to download the updated drivers for my computer that has windows 2000 loaded on another computer. The drivers were too big to copy to a 3 1/4 floppy, so I copied the drivers to a cd disc. When I try to update the drivers using the cd disc, the pop up screen say "this is not a valid mfg hardware update." I know they are valid because I copied them from the mfg website. How can I get these drivers installed in c:\winnt folder since the first place the installation looks for is files that are under this particular folder first and then ask if you have disk. Any help will be gladly apppreciated. Thanks

I want to setup dial up connection (for area with bad wireless/cable) - but get "error 633".
Problems started when someone tried to configure something (probably did it wrong); altered setting for services _or maybe_ deleted some windows files.
Remote Access Diagnostic Report is here: http://tiny.cc/dialup100
Modem using port 28. Diagnostic Test succeeded.
Dial up networking settings screen shots are here: http://tiny.cc/l8sxyw
When clicking "connect" the 633 error comes up immediately.
More details:

Connection via Cable just fine.
No Malware or Virus Issue.
I ran SFC /SCANNOW. Verification 100% complete. "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations".
I ran Tweaking.com - Windows Repair - didn't help.
Is there someone who knows which files and services are needed / or a workaround to only [manually] install windows files necessary for internet dial-up connection ?

I have an Amoi WP-S1 3G mobile phone (a.k.a. 3 SkypePhone). It comes with 32bit WinXP driver and application CDROM that includes a modem driver and modem client app. I have successfully installed and used them on XP Pro.

In Windows 7 32bit Home Premium, I can successfully install all drivers and apps from the CD. The PC-Synch app works but the Modem app cannot connect. The modem app opens OK and identifies the WP-S1 as an available device, but when I hit the Connect button, I get:

"The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection.error code is:623"

What I have tried so far:
- Closing my WiFi connection first
- Uninstalling all of the WP-S1 drivers (which were found automatically in W7) and reinstalling from my CD-ROM
- Create a dial-up connection in W7 Network Centre using the phone number from the WP-S1 modem app Settings window (*99#), leaving the username/password blank as it is in the WP-S1 app Settings.

When I got it going on WinXP, I did nothing special; it just worked.

Googling error 623 suggests that there might be some connection missing in the W7 Networking Center that can be added (hence my attempt at creating a manual dialup connection).

Other details:
- In W7 Devices, I have no unidentified devices - all correctly installed
- My computer is an ASUS T91MT tablet netbook running W7 Home Premium
- My phone is connected by USB, although I hope to ge... Read more

A:Cannot get WP-S1 3G phone working as a modem in Windows 7 - Error 623

Follow up: finally managed to get it working in W7. When I install the modem client in XP, it also creates an XP dial up network connection. In Windows 7 it did not create the network connection. I had a couple of attempts to manually create the Dial-up Network, but it did not correctly identify the Modem. I don't really know what I did differently, but today when I tried to create a dial-up connection, it found the modem successfully.

I set all the settings in the dial-up network the same as XP and then tried dialing directly from XP - without the supplied client app. It failed a few times, but after a reboot it worked.

Hi, I have Sky Broadband which comes with a Sagem router and I have a BELKIN Wireless G Desktop Network Card which for the first 6 months connected fine, although sometimes it took a while to find connection and dropped out a few times but it did connect in the end. It then started failing to find connection at all so started using partner's Nokia N95 (which has a built-in Modem) and has always connected first time and can always see connection. Today I brought a LINKSYS Wireless-N USB Network Adapter with Dual-Band which can see the connection and my computer can now see connection through "MY Network Places" but can still not connect at all but phone is again still working.

A few months ago I also tried another BELKIN card but a much better one to what I've got but again it didn't work and if it managed to connect it was only once and then couldn't find connection again so took it back.
We live in a granny flat built on back of partner's mum's house and router is by her front door as that's where phone line is and the computer is in our flat with one wall in between and is approximately 10-15 metres apart. So I originally thought this was the problem but now because phone has no problem and never has even before when we just used to go on internet on phone not through computer I'm assuming it must be something else.

Can someone please help me as I'm now at a loss as to what else to try and I'd like to be able to ... Read more

Just bought a new customized HP desktop. I do a lot of faxing through my computer and my last notebook had a fax modem built in. HP tells me I'll need an external fax modem (which plugs into the USB port) if I want to fax with the new machine. Then, the RJ45 of the phone line (coming from the SAME cable as my internet and television) goes into the USB fax modem.

Why? If my internet and television and my phone are all from the same cable company cable, why can't software in my computer dial the fax number through the internet cable plugged into my computer?

I don't want to fax through some internet company I have to pay. I want to scan documents using my scanner then fax them out using the Windows fax application.

I currently use XP but the new machine will have Vista.

HP also tells me internal fax modem cards are a thing of the past, replaced by the USB modem. True?

I have a Acer computer with a Vista 32 bit operating (SP2) system and 3GB of memory.

About two weeks ago, I began to have the following two problems:

1. I have a MultiTech MT5634ZPX voice/fax modem and use Classic Phone Tools as a Dialer/Fax tool, I also use a headset (?) which plugs directly into my fax card (speaker and mike). This setup worked perfectly until recently.

Now when I attempt to use the dialer, I get an error message regarding a dll file (error msg attached). When I exit the error msg my browser appears but it doesn't work properly. Faxes never get sent and phone calls ring once but then "nothing". Ive tested the phone dialer w/my cell and it rings, but there is nothing on the other end when I answer and no audio (other than the dial tones and the first ring) on the phone tool.
I have contacted the dialer's mfgr as well as the modem mfg. Both confirmed "i do have a problem"; neither was able to offer a vialble solution (other than to call the other).

2. Windows update. My last successful update (it's set for automatic) was Feb 9, 2010. Since then, no matter how I do it, updates are unsuccessful. Believe me I've tried a myriad of different things including several dll re-register attempts all suggested by MS on their help pages. It appears the most insideous error is the attached (2nd) message re: error Code 88072efd. Hi all,

My PC seems to have been infected with some kind of dialer that disconnects my adsl connection and then attempts to dial out through my old 56K modem.

Before this happens, my firewall software detects that the file msnmns32.exe is trying to run. If I let it run, the adsl connection is disconnected, and the 56k modem starts trying to dial.

I have not found any reference on the web to msnmns32.exe. Does anyone know what this file is?

I have tried fixing this with adaware, and my usual virus software, but the problem remains.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Hi and welcome to TSF

Please go into Windows Explorer, click on C:\ > File > New Folder and call it HJK, or another name of your choice. Go to this site and download Hijack This. Install the program into the folder you created then run it. Click Scan. Save the log file to Notepad, then copy and post it back here. Make sure to include the System information at the top of the log as well.

I use the Windows Dialer (dialer.exe) to keep lots of phone numbers and to dial out when I want to call.
There are probably fancier phone dialers available, but I find this one totally adequate for my needs. The problem is that I cannot find where it stores the data on the contacts I have entered. I just had to reinstall windows which meant that I had to retype in all of the contact information rather than reload it from a backup made before I formatted my disk.
This is not a major issue. I just want to see if anyone has any information about this.
Ken Gash

A:Solved: Windows Phone Dialer Contacts Migrate

The speed dial entries are stored in the Registry at this key:

You would have to export that key to a .reg file to back it up, then after a re-install, simply double click the file to merge it into the registry and re-enter your speed dial list.

This batch command will export that key to a file name dialer.reg into the My Documents folder of the currently signed on user. Copy the line into Notepad, then save it someplace with a .bat extension. Be sure to change the Save as Type: setting to All Files from Text Documents (*.txt)

Double click the file when ever you want to back up the data. If your backup program backs up the My Documents folder, the dialer.reg file will be in your backup ready to be used.
reg export "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Dialer\Speeddial" "%userprofile%\My Documents\dialer.reg"

I would say check the mfg website and see if you cant find some updated drivers for it or even check google and see if anyone has "hacked" the XP drivers into working with Vista. I know that Vista's been having lots of issues with past and current third party products and so it could just be that your modem is incompatible with Vista or you just need to look a bit more for newer drivers.

A:unable to connect using modem to internet on windows 2000

Why not give the following a try:

1) Download the newest and latest drivers from the modem manufacturer’s website. (I know, you have a disk, but download the newest and best anyhow.

2) Enter Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager and DELETE any references to any modem.

3) Shut down and physically remove the modem and then put the modem back in PCI slot #3 (Third slot down from the AGP slot)

4) Boot up and enter the BIOS setup menu.

5) In the BIOS setup menu find the PnP area. If you are running WinXP or win2k, then DISABLE Pnp….however, if you are using Win98, then make sure it is ENABLED.

6) Save and Exit

7) Boot back up and when the computer finds your modem, then load the drivers that have been downloaded from the manufacturer’s website. It may tell you that the latest and best are already installed, but install them anyway. (for example, WinXP and win2k only have v.90 drivers and not the most recent v.92 that are needed for best operation) If it says they are not digitally signed, then load them anyway. This is a long story, but I can assure you it is a money issue and a rip off from Microsoft in my opinion.

This should get you going!

hello, hope you can help here..

I reinstalled a pc for a friend of mine, reformatted and reinstalled the OS. so now it is a Dell Optiplex GX260 running XP Pro. the network card is Intel Pro/1000 and has the latest drivers updated and checks out fine in device manager.

Overall it is now working perfectly, except for this problem with internet connection.

the workstation connects fine from my home, via my ADSL wired router. e.g. I downloaded SP3 in no time at all.
my friend has a Cable broadband service in his house. this service is also fine, other PCs/Macs have used it (including my laptop) and there are no problems.

BUT for some reason, when the GX260 is connected to the cable bb service, wired directly to the cable modem, the connection is incredibly limited. e.g. google.com will load, and maybe google.com/news will load if you are lucky, but anything slightly heavier, e.g. hp.com, dell.com etc, will only load meta data and eventually time out.

I spoke with the ISP and did some live testing, they confirmed the TCP/IP settings were configured ok and the connection checked out fine from their end (as the other PCs proved anyway, as they had no problem connecting using the same cable bb modem setup).

normally I can find solutions but this one really stumps me as all components in the mix seem to have proved they are ok in other configurations, only when they are together does the problem exist!

apart from ditching either the service or the Dell, what can be done?... Read more

After tinkering around with the PC studio (the software on my PC to use my phone while connected), i got it working. But, under the network Icon on the Win 7 system tray it says i am connected to "Samsung Strive 5". At one point i had 2,3,4 and now 5.

Now, i only have one phone to use. Somehow, after configuring it, it thinks (i guess) i have 5 modems?

So, how can change so that my PC only 'sees' that i have one modem connected (other that my LAN/NIC)

I want to change the connection so that it reads "samsung strive" only.

May sound silly, but when I built a small office, I ren the phone cable inside the wall before stripping the covering of the wire...instead of four wire, it's 16, so I braided the wires (both ends of wire the same) and use it that way as a four wire...any harm in this or is it best to just use those thing wires and only use two of 'em? I have an ISP and 56.6 and get a connect at 38.8 usually (thru put is much slower, of course).

I'm not sure what you mean... you had 16 wires and you combined them into 4 sets each or which contains 4 wires?

Why? I don't know enough about phone wiring to say for sure, but I would think this could introduce interference.

I would like to use my Huawei G300 Ascend Android smartphone to get internet access for my laptop when I'm not within range of a WiFi hotspot. Preferably I would like to do this wirelessly (via Bluetooth or WiFi).
I have successfully (I thhink) paired my phone with my PC, but I don't understand how to set up a connection with my phone so it will act as a wide area broadband modem.
If I go to Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Devices and Printers I can asee my phone under devices. It looks sort of greyed out. If I right click on it and select Properties, and then select the Services tab, no services are shown (see attachment).
A related question: is it bettwer to connect to the phone using Bluetooth, or using the phone's "personal hotspot" feature? Why?
Thanks - Rowan

A:Using bluetooth phone as modem

Set your phone up as a "hotspot" then on your wireless connections on your laptop you will see the name of your phone as a wireless connection ... connect to this which will then give you internet access, make sure your phone provider doesn't charge you extra for "tethering"

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me.
I have alot of calls that are incoming and outgoing and everytime, I have to get up out of my seat and get the phone. sometimes I even forget where the cordless phone is and end up losing that call. I usually stay at my computer and I was wondering if there is a third party software that supports calling through the modem on a land line so I am able to pick up and dial calls from my computer. thanks. by the way, my phone modem card is really old so there's no point of finding an third party program specifically for that one card.
