Preferred Solution: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 failed to install

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 failed to install

After doing a quick google search, it appears to be a pretty generic error code.

Do you have any third party antivirus or firewall installed? If so try disabling those untill you get it to install. Remember to disable those services in the "services.msc" directory as they will re-enable at the next boot and could cause havoc with the install procedure.

I have tried everything to try to download Service Pack 1.

I've ran a SFC Scan and it has not worked, it had said it could not have repaired the corrupted files of the computer, I have also renamed the SoftwareDistribution folder in the C: Drive. I have reseted the Windows update cache and still not working. I get an error code 8024200D every time I try to install it. I've tried to manually install it and still says the remote procedure call failed. I have also tried the System readiness and still has not fixed anything.

Thank you in advance.

Hey guys,
First of all, thank everyone for posting to this forum. I have found a lot of really helpful advice so far. Right now, however, I have not been able to diagnose and fix the problem I am currently having so I was hoping that someone could help me out. Basically my problem is that I have been able to install every update to Windows 7 up to Service Pack 1 which fails every time. I am pretty sure that I have tried everything I have read on here short of a clean reinstall, so I wanted to post first before I went to that. My error code screenshot and CBS files are attached. Thanks in advance for any help!

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 (KB929300) (x86 Failed to install. What is this service pack anyway?

A:Service Pack failed to install

It's a Service Pack to the .NET 3.0 Framework. It won't install if you don't have Framework 3.0 installed. You can check it in Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Some programs may need this version installed to run correctly.

Is there a fix? If, so what can I do fix this issue?

I was installing the Windows Vista Service Pack 1 so that I can install office 2010. The installation seemed to fail and stall on a black screen with some text about the registry. I turned the computer off and took the battery out to make sure it was off. I waited 5 minutes and tried to boot up at that blue screen with the choice of "safe mode" and "recovery mode" etc. I tried all the options available and all have failed. I tried the Vista recovery disc and it failed to. I don't have a Vista installation disc and don't want to buy one. I do have a Windows XP installation disc. The question is: Can I install XP on my laptop over the Vista that is already installed? Please help me.

NOTE: I have severe eye problems. If I do not respond to your postings, please PM another staff member for assistance.

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests (located at this link: Hardware Diagnostics ). They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

Quote:

H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
Hard Drive Diagnostics (read the details at the link) - Test ALL of the hard drives.

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Free Online AntiMalware Resources (read the details at the link)
There are also free, bootable antivirus disks at this link: Free Online AntiMalware Resources - Bootable Disks

You can attempt to install XP on the system - but you have to have a valid product key for XP that will work with the XP installation disk. You will have problems with getting drivers, so you'll need another computer to communicate with us while trying to get all the drivers (there is guarantee that you'll be able to get all the drivers that you'll need).

Start with the diagnostics above, that'll tell you if the system is sound enough to install Windows

I have checked the Microsoft help page, multiple other people seem to have the same or a similar problem. Some of them have had success in solving it, but their solutions do not work for me. The service pack downloads fine, but fails when installing, giving me the error code 8024200D (which I have looked up, and the answers there did not help.) I have run the system update readiness tool, which did not find anything out of the ordinary, and I have also done the SFC scan, which also did not find anything out of the ordinary.

I have some suspicions that it might be because I have Windows N Ultimate edition, but I am not sure. The screenshot is from viewing the details of the failed update on the "view update history" screen in Windows Update. It doesn't really say anything that I have not already said. I am completely puzzled here.

I guess I COULD make a backup and install regular Windows 7 to fix the issue (even if it isn't compatibility, a clean install might fix it), but I would like to avoid that if possible. Thank you in advance, and if you need any more information to help me, don't be afraid to ask.

Hello, first time posting please bare with me.

I am trying to update a family members laptop which is a Dell Inspiron 1720 with vista home premium pre-installed. Windows update recommends Windows Vista SP1 (KB936330). Made several attempts to download and install this update and haven't had any success. The update runs like normal and automatically restarts the computer, then I get a window with some info saying the update failed to install. Error code 8007371C, and error code 8007000D. Two different codes for two different attempts.

I troubleshooted this through microsoft help and solutions and followed their instructions. I downloaded the stand alone 32-bit package from the microsoft download center and ran it, my computer froze up during the install (the install was supposed to take around an hour to complete) so after a few hours frozen I chose to cancel the install and try again. I still haven't attempted a re-install. Thought I would see if anyone else knows how to fix this issue first.

Thanks

If you find that you have issues where Windows service Pack 1 fails to install from the ms website, there’s no need to re-image the laptop, all you need to do is run the hotfix below and reboot then try reinstalling Win SP 1 from the ms website.

Instructions:-

Download the System Update Readiness tool from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3132 save it to the desktop and run it.

Please note that the win 7 SP1 can take about 1 hr to install if not longer.

Back Story: My Toshiba Satellite laptop recently had a little problem with overheating, so for now, I've been using an old Dell Inspiron 1100 with Windows SP1.
I've been using this laptop, and I have to deal with it for quite some time before I can replace my other one. Anyway, I've attempted to install Windows Service Pack 2 and 3 several times (I can't download or update Windows applications without it), but I haven't had any luck.

I almost get to the end of the installation when the "Extracting Files" box closes and an error message pops up saying "Setup Error: System cannot find file specified", then "Setup Error: Installation did not complete". It does this after the extraction stops on "i386\update\update.exe"

Hi, I was hoping you could help.

I am unable to install windows xp service pack 2. I have downloaded it and it gets to final stages of instalation (performing cleaning) and then I get an error message saying that it could not complete installation.

I have a proper copy of win xp and have used it for ages and registered it. The problems came when I got a new motherboard and it asked me to register windows which I did successfully. When I went to download SP2 it told me I had to register windows and to follow certain steps in the control panel.

I could not do this as the final step was to go to the activate windows option in control panel which was not there ( I suspect because I have already activated).

So i had to get the download from another source.

Any help would be much appreciated, as I have had no problems with windows registering or validation before with this disk and I have also downloaded sp2 before.

Cheers,

Bruce

The easiest way is,boot to safe mode. Then log in as the administrator. Run service pack 2 setup from here. There are many variables that may be causing conflicts. As long as you have a valid copy of XP this is the easiest way to to bypass the possible conflicts causing the error message.

I am trying to install the windows 7 service pack 1 but it will not let me. I have already tried the standalone installer and downloading the service pack directly and running it, but it will not work. When I try to run it through windows update it sits at 0% and I get the error code 80004005. How can I fix this?

A:Windows 7 service pack 1 will not install

That error code roughly translates as 'access denied'

Since Windows Updates and the Software protection service have many things in common, it can be useful to see a copy of the MGADiag report.....

We need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

Windows XP Media Center Edition version 2002 service pack 1
Dell Dimension 4600

I'm unable to install service pack 2 from the automatic update or microsoft download center. First, I get a box that says:
Service Pack 2 Setup...
(red X) Access is denied

then, a box that says:
Service Pack 2 Setup Error
(red X) Service Pack 2 installation did not complete
Select 'ok' to undo the changes that have been made
(ok)

then, the Windows XP Service Pack 2 removal wizard runs.

One piece of info that might be useful is that when I boot up my computer I get a message that says:
The file dtscsi.sys is corrupted
press any key to continue

Any help to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.

A:Can't install Windows Service Pack 2

Google the filename.

It seems that the .sys file is part of Daemon Tools.
The advice seems to be to remove Daemon Tools.
Don't take my word, read about it yourself first.

You could get a copy of the Service Pack 2 CD from Microsoft
to avoid the download.

I still have my CD, I also have Dimension 4600 (6 years old)
which runs sweetly on Service Pack 3.

I have Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit. I have never had SP1 before. I recently rolled back my PC a few day with system restore, then updated Windows to the newest updates. I downloaded SP1 32-bit and when I try to install it, it installs right to almost the end and gives me:Error 0x80070002

I've looked around on the internet but have yet to found a fix. This error seems to affect a lot of different things.

A:Can't install Windows 7 Service Pack 1

i found this. they talk about 64 bit, but it should apply to 32 bit as well.

Hi, I'm Glad I Joined this Forum,
I am Still Finding Out how to Show my IDE Hard Disk (Samsung SP0842N)
But when I start the Setup, It Redirect to the Load Driver.

What Should I Do to Install Windows 7 from my IDE DVD-ROM to IDE HDD?

Thanks for the Hands,
Nico

A:I Need help to Install Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 on my PC

Hi Nico, and welcome:

Where did you get Win7? DId you burn the DVD yourself? If so confirm the ISO integrity or download another, then burn to DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

Reset the BIOS to optimal defaults.

Unplug all peripherals and other HD's besides target.

Wipe the HD: Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command

Win7 rarely needs IDE controller drivers, but you can try inserting your chipset at the Load Drivers link on drive selection screen during install. Normally this is an installer error.

Hello!

While trying to install Service Pack 2 for Vista, the installation reaches stage 3 of 3 at 0% after booting, then logs in, with the service pack not installed with no error message. this then repeats at every boot.

I have tried using the System Update Readiness Tool which stops at around 70% on the progress bar and does not produce any useful results and have tried a standalone install of SP 2 which does not work either. Running out of ideas! HELP!

A:Windows Vista Service Pack 2 won't install

Microsoft advises temporarily disabling any real-time antivirus & antispyware utilities before running SP installations -- did you do that?

Hi, I'm new and very confused/frustrated! Sorry if i posted in the wrong section, i will learn...

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-K33 Notebook/Laptop and there are a couple of things i'm trying to fix and having trouble with.
1) It won't complete the installation for Windows Service Pack 3. I have tried three times and it keeps failing.
2) It won't let me reinstall the ATDVID-00631911-US.EXE file (video driver) that was originally provided with the laptop. It says, "Could not initialize installation. File size expected-21045897, size returned=179200." I assumed that my laptop did not download the file completely, however, i tried it about 5 times and kept getting the same response. I was originally trying to get this driver reinstalled because my laptop screen resolution won't get any bigger than 800x600, even though the screen resolution is set to 1024x768, which I was told to do by troubleshooting...

3) Does anybody know any good spyware/virus trial programs? I was going to try Spybot which I have on another computer, but I figured I could find out what else is out there...

Please, I would greatly appreciate any help whatsoever! I'm trying to fix my brothers computer as a surpise for him because it's terribly slow and "screwed up", if that expression is deemed appropriate... :)
Thank you,
Ashleigh

A:windows xp service pack 3 won't install on my vaio pcg-k33

1) You could try the full install file.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...8-1e1555d4f3d4

2) Not sure there. Perhaps download from a different mirror? Check file size too (right-click, properties)

3) not sure about antivirus, but i like clamwin. people on here say avast. for antispyware, any of these should work: spybot search and destroy, ad-aware, and windows defender for xp.

Hi All, I have tried several times to install XP SP2 on a laptop by using automatic (and manual) updates and by downloading the full installer from the Microsoft network site below but it gets it gets stuck while 'checking product key', there is no other error message. I am able to downloads all the files and start the install but it always reaches the product key point and doesn't go past that, I have left the computer on for up to 24 hours with no success. I scanned the computer using windows defender and didn't found any viruses.

Details are: HP Compac NC 6000 laptop
Windows XP Professional version 2002 (SP1)
Intel pentium M 1600 MHz 1.59 GHz 512 RAM

I searched the forum and confirmed the version of the Windows Installer is 3.1.4000.2435, the computer works fine (slow due to only SP 1) otherwise. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

1) Please go into the CMD prompt.

2) Then type cd \windows\inf and make sure we are in that directory.

3) Then type ren oem*.inf oem*.old, it will go back to the prompt after giving you some error (Do not worry about it)

4) Then type ren oem*.pnf oem*.old1, it will go back to the prompt after giving you some error (Do not worry about it)

5) Then goto start - run - type c:\windows\inf and you will see the files in the folder.

6) Then find the file by name INFCACHE.1 and take a backup of it to desktop (by copying it to desktop) and delete the INFCACHE.1 from c:\windows\inf.

7) Close all windows and reboot the computer to safe mode and start the installation of SP2 and it should go fine.

If you are installing another way to go is this
Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
just make sure you pick the right language and version - is it is Home then pick Home some get stupid and think they can get Ultimate but it ends in grief. All you need is the activation code you have already.

I recently bought an ipod video and on the mox it says i must have windows 2000 with serivce pack for but i know my computer only is on sp1. What are the correct steps to get to serivce pack 4? A couple months ago i attempted to get sp4 and it crashed my computer and i had to get the windows reset(dont remember the name) which completely reset my computer to the original default settings and everything, all files and everything was lost. Before i did that i talked to a computer pro and that was his advice since he said the service pack failed. The only reason I am mentioning this is because of the Ipod that I bought, i will ahve to upgrade my computer to service pack 4. When i move to service pack 4 will i have to start at 2 then move to 3 then tto 4 or can i go straight from sp1 which is what i have to sp4? anything will help thanks.
