I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Jeric,

Its possibility it might be a corrupt disk. Try the following to see if it will install.

Insert the Office 2010 disk

Click Start > Computer

Open the Office disk, click Organize

Click Select All

Click Organize

Click Copy

create a folder on the desktop or Documents folder, click Organize > Paste

The try installing Office again.

If that does not work, try running the Windows Installer Utility:

error 1720 there is a problem with this windows installer package.
I am trying to download software.  It stalls about 60 percent through and I get a pop up box with this message:

Error 1720. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  A script required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

I am running windows 8.1 with IE 11.  My work wants me to run IE 8 or 9 because they are slow getting updated.  I have changed my internet all around and have had success running other programs for my work.  I have been told that I am getting this error message because I have a virus. I have run Avast and Malware bytes and they both come up clean.  I went to Microsoft.com and ran a diagnostic fix it tool to fix my registry.  The program said that I did not have any problems with my registry and it did not fix anything.  I tried to do system restore and roll my system back to an earlier date so see if that might help.  I am unable to do do system restore.  When I reboot my computer a pop box appears that says system restore failed  would you like to try again.  Now my internet options are all messed up and I am unable to run any work applications.

I think I can fix the internet options but I still have the Error 1720 code that I do not know about.

Hello! I've been trying to install Java for quite some time, but everytime I try to do so, when the installation is near the end, the following error always pops up:

Help please?

Here are a couple of links to download the Windows Installer which should fix your broken one.

The first is for Vista SP1 and the second says it's for a 32bit version, they're the only links I could find, but have a read through them first before you choose (if any) to install.

Download Windows Installer 4.5 Windows Drivers - Software Patch.

A:Windows Installer error - Error 1723.

Can you install other applications that make use of Windows installer?  If so, then your issue is probably with your Java download.

Go here for an interactive installation: http://java.com/en/.
Go here to download the full binaries for an offline installation: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp.

If you do have issues with installing other applications via the Windows installer, open up an elevated command prompt and type SFC /VERIFYNOW.  Wait out the scan.  When finished, do a SFC /? to see the available actions you can take.

Hi Guys,
I've been having a few problems of late. It started when I couldn't change my settings on my broadband; to allow other computers use my LAN through my laptop. It told me to do a system restore, which I did, but then a few errors started coming up on my lap top. I am having problems opening PAINT.net and ACT9 (CRM), there is a few other errors. I've tried deleting those products, so I could reinstall them, but when I go to Add/Remove programmes an error shows up "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor" then a "Fatal Error Occurred". There is some info on the net about the problem being a JAVA script problem, but I don't see what that has to do with it. This is a toughie I know, but I'd appreciate any help that anyone could give me. You'll probably need more info, so just jot down a few questions to stat with and I'll answer as many as I can.

I've tried to follow every suggestion to alleviate the problem but cannot download anything that will help with error 1721. Reregister the Windows Installer service

The Windows Installer service manages the installation and removal of programs. The service applies a set of centrally defined setup rules during the installation process. These setup rules define the installation and configuration of the installed program. Windows Installer uses the Microsoft installation engine to install or remove programs. If the registration of the Microsoft installation engine is corrupted, you may not be able to remove programs that you have installed by using Windows Installer. In that case, you have to unregister and reregister the Windows Installer service. To do this, follow these steps:

Start your computer in Safe mode. To do this, follow these steps:
Restart the computer.
After the BIOS information is displayed, press F8.
Use the DOWN ARROW key to select Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.
Use the UP ARROW key and the DOWN ARROW key to select your computer, and then press ENTER.

Log on to the computer as local administrator.
Click Start, click Run, type cmd.exe, and then click OK.
At the command prompt, type msiexec /unregister , and then press ENTER.

Hi, I hope this is is in the right thread, I already posted in software, but was unable to find the solution, I have also posted on the microsoft forum, with no luck.

Basically, I am unable to install anything with .msi (windows installer package), I will get error messages like:

'There is a problem with this windows installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor'

OR

'Installation directory must be on a local hard drive' (Even though it is).

When it does give me an error code it is always 1723

Its not with any specific software I'm having trouble with. For example I tried installing Acrobat, Quicktime, Rhinoceros (3d software) and T-splines (plugin for Rhinoceros)....all of which got an error and had msi installers, so I think its safe to assume its not the software, but a problem with my computer. I have checked all the installers on another computer and they work.

Things I've tried so far
sfc /scannow
Microsoft fix it tool
Checked the status of windows installer in Services (It was running)
The only thing I have come close to is using 'run as admin' with quicktime as it was the only program which allowed that option as an msi. This actually worked and was able to override the DLL error somehow and install quicktime.

Any help is really appreciated.

A:Error 1723 - Unable to install anything with a .msi installer

I am guessing that it is the problem of windows installer. For windows 7, it is the installer version 5, and that is not available to download. It is built in windows 7.

Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If it fails, try Repair Install.

After weeks of searching for a relevant answer, I seem to be going round in circles. There do seem to be a number of downloads for this and that, but without direction from someone in the know I'm reluctant to just try anything! There just seems to be so many variables in systems and software that it's a proverbial minefield!

I just got this problem after I make a change to my hard disk. Appearantly, I want to compress my disk space but I abort it after a few second it started due to the reason it is time-consuming. I uncheck the "compress disk to save disk space".

Then the problem start. I was unable to install "SuddenAttack.msi" which clearly .MSI file extension is used for Window Installer Package. The error code is 1307 which is not enough disk space for Window Installer Package.

I am sure i had a ample of disk space and SuddenAttack should not take more than 800MB of disk space.

Can anyone help me to solve this errror?

When the error message appear, i click retry and it still loop back to the error message.

I running out of solution there. Google doesn't even help either.

Hi there, I had to reinstall this laptop-PC from scratch and would like to put "Cool Sense" back on it. Contact your supporot personnel or package vendor." I tried multiple ways of running this installer: Downloading directly on this PC and executing it from there (which otherwise is running fine; I do not know of any "program that run as part of the setup but did not finish as expected", this doesn't make sense at all); downloading on another PC, then copying the installer on a USB-stick and running it from there; running it over the network from another PC - I am always getting this same error message. What's the issue here, how can I fix this and get this utility on this laptop? I really would like this to run, bec. the PC is getting exceedingly hot and slows down like crazy. Thanks for any good hints!

Welcome to TSG...

Best thing would be to properly reinstall the applications from the Office CD. Missing (deleted) files probably won't allow you to use or simply 'restore' the applications, nor will you be able to uninstall them in the normal way.

If it's still in the add/remove programs list, you can click on Office, and click Change, then Repair. Any way you go you'll probably need the installation media.

I am working on automation project in which we are installing the Windows OS on client machine with the help of different OS packages available on server.

While installing Windows XP/2003 we are checking for the OS installer packages to get the difference between x86 and x64 architectures.
e.g. x86 package contains - I386 folder and PRODSPEC.INI file.
and x64 package contains - I386 folder, PRODSPEC.INI and one additional folder AMD64

Is there any such specific folders or file for Windows 7installer package, by using which we can identify that this is for x86 or for x64?

Thanks,
Jaydeep.

A:Windows 7 x86 and x64 installer package folders and files- Diferrence

I can't recall anything off the top of my head but the x64 package is almost 1gb larger overall. At least it's that way with disc versions. I remember 2.6 and 3.5gb-ish i think for my Windows 7 x86 and x64 discs.

There may be someone who knows more about it but I figured I'd throw that out there anyways.

Hi everyone!

I have contacted Kaspersky and they told me that it could either be due to the fact that the windows installer that I have is corrupt or it could be a virus.

So I first went to this site:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloadS/d...displaylang=en

to download the windows installer, but when i tried to install it/update it, i got an error saying "The update does not apply to your system".

So, I did some other things that they asked me to and it seems that I don't have a virus. There were some traces of another antivirus on my laptop, so I followed a link that they gave me and uninstalled it.
However, I still get the same error when trying to install Kaspersky!!

I have made sure that Windows Installer is running...

Is there anything I can do?? I really need to install that Internet Security thing!

It has 12 gigs of RAM.  I am trying to install the Intel Bluetooth drivers with the installation package off of the Lenovo support site for my laptop.  It "crashed midway through the recognition of the bluetooth devices I see in the device manager.  I get the following error message: "There is a problem with the Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I have tried every combination possible. The power supply is plugged in. No USB or any devices are plugged in. I've made sure that there are no programs currently installed with bluetooth drivers already installed.  I have run the Lenovo System update (latest version).  I've also done the latest Windows Updates.   I am unable to get past the error mesage. Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on?

I'm running Windows 2000 Professional
I wonder if anyone can help me before I deposit my computer in the loch

After downloading updates for Spyware Doctor I ran a complete scan of my PC. I asked it to fix all of the problems it had found. It 'told' me that I wold need to restart my computer. This I duly did, but as the computer was shutting down a Windows Installer box appeared briefly. On restarting, the box appeared again. Apparently it was trying to install HP Brio Management Agent WMI. However I then got the message: -

'The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable'

'Click OK to try again or enter an alternative folder containing the installation package 'HP Brio Management Agent WMI.msi' in the box below'
In the, Use source, box below was C:/Documents and Settings\Default User\_is44F\

After clicking OK to try again I got the message: -

'Error 1706 No valid source could be found for product HP Brio Management Agent WMI. The Windows Installer cannot continue'

Everytime I start up, or connect to the internet, or open another page I get the Installer thing all over again! It will eventually 'cancel' but is very persistent - I would really appreciate some feedback

Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi, I just got done fixing a problem that caused Error 1711 (cannot write a temporary file). I tried all of the posted suggestions from MS as well as forums... such as checking security settings for the C:\Windows\Installer folder, etc. I finally figured out that the file that could not be written was trying to go into this folder. It's a temporary file created by the installer, called MSIxxxx.tmp. What I found is that I had thousands of these, all of length 0 KB, and all had the same creation date. The xxxx is replaced by a sequence number when the file is created. Once msiexec runs out of file name choices, apparently the process fails and causes the 1711 error. So, if you are having some problems like this, look in the Installer folder and delete these .tmp files if they are present. (I put them in a new subfolder during debugging, just in case it was not the problem, but then I deleted the subfolder with no impact.) It seemed to fix my problem when nothing else did. Since I also tried repairing my WinXP Pro installation to fix this, I still had to use the "reregister .dll" fix that's in several other posts, but that's another story ;-)

Why is your computer running Windows XP SP2?

The SP3 upgrade was released in May 2008.

The operating system in that computer is over 6 years out of date.

I am actually running win 7 but theres no option for that and vista is the closest. I am learning Java, and i was installing eclipse but when i tried to open it, it said it could not find a jre file. I found no fixes to this, so i decided that the best option would be to reinstall JDK.

When I tried that, it said error 1723, I looked up how to fix that, and found that many people said to download the latest version of windows install manager. When i tried that i got a message saying that there is not enough available storage space. i have 177gb free on D/ which is my main drive, 105gb free on my c/ and if it means RAM, i have 4gb 2.5 of which are free and throughout the process i have never seen it get lower than 2gb free.

Its a lot of problems, but if you think you have the answer to any of them then please post it. Thanks!

Alright, here we go. Hopefully someone out there can help me out here because this is shredding my mind.

I've been sitting on my Computer for ages trying to figure out this Error 1723, and I can't figure it out. So I've come to Techguy for the answer

Before we get started let me give you a screen shot of my computer information. Windows 7.

Now that you know what I'm working with here I'll explain the problem. Basically I'm trying to Uninstall Java 6 Update 20. Everytime I attempt to uninstall java an "Error 1723". So then I'll try an re-install java to replace the current one and it will also have a "Error 1723".

Heres a screen shot just incase you would like to see it

I have no clue what to do, I've tried so many things. I have a habit of messing with my computer a little to much and I think it gets me into this kind of trouble.

I've come to Techguy before back in 2008 and they solved my problem easily and I was very pleased with it. I hope that someone can solve this problem.

Thanks for taking the time to try an help me!

So I've been having trouble getting Java 6 27 working on my computer, so I decided to uninstall it. Once uninstalled I realized there is a new update to Java and downloaded that, Java 7. Once downloaded I tried to run various .exe files that require Java and I receive a range of error messages. So I went to uninstall Java 7 presuming there was something wrong and a re installation was appropriate and I noticed that Java 6 27 was still in my programs. Surely this shouldn't be there? I have run numerous registry cleaners and uninstalled Java 7 with no problems and installed older versions of Java but Java 6 27 wont go. There are no files in the C: drive referring to Java 6 27.

Ask if that isn't enough information, I'll gladly provide more!

Please help! =D

A:Java Error 1723

There's something of a mystery about Java 7. It was first available early in August and I installed it then, not having noticed that it was suggested that 'developers' should test it. I am fairly certain that there was no indication, in the documentation I saw, that it should be considered as beta. What I did notice was that this version would not automatically remove earlier ones, so I uninstalled the then latest version (6 U26) via Add/Remove.

I myself haven't had any problems with version 7 but I only use a few things that require Java (Open Office and the Secunia software checkers) and they have been OK so I haven't attempted to return to 6 U27. A Google search suggests that others have had problems with 7 (though this one item may be exaggerated);http://www.infoworld.com/d/application-development/oracle-javas-worst-enemy-168828

I assume you have searched Java error 1723? I didn't find much although there is a generic Install Shield error number 1722 mentioned at the foot of these Release Notes;http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/install-windows-189425.html#troubleshooting Registry cleaners get a bad press here so I hope that none of the software you used has made the situation any worse.

Although I've never tried it myself, some people here have successfully used something called JavaRa and you can read about it here;http://raproducts.org/wordpress/software Alternatively, if you still have an entry in your Add/Remove list,... Read more

well i've searched for about 2 hrs now and no luck. I think I know how to fix it but need a 2nd 64bit windows 7 PC witch I don't have. So if anyone out there could put all of their java jre 6u22 folder into a rar and upload for me I would love it. If you don't have that version of java I don't think it works so heres the link Java Downloads for All Operating Systems
If you don't trust me and still want to help just google java and 1st link click download. It should be the latest version. (jre-6u22-windows-i586-s.exe is what it saves as if you do offline mode)
Please post if you have another way of fixing.
Cheers.
