Lenovo T430 - Unauthorized network card is plugged in.

Q: Lenovo T430 - Unauthorized network card is plugged in.

Hello,I've spent literally days searching for a solution to this problem.Eventually I gave up - posting my first message here with hope that someone will help. Those who have encountered a similar issue may already know that Lenovo has whitelisted product restrictions in place.I bought my Lenovo T430 from an auction (third-party seller). Everything was working fine, even the wireless network card Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205.Then I decided to reinstall the system and bring everything back to the factory settings (my bad). This is where I came across the error:"1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the miniPCI network card."Well initally I thought that there were still some drivers missing. I disabled the security boot in BIOS, rebooted the system, connected to the internet via my wired LAN (the wifi network card wasn't recognized under the Device Manager, not even the classic yellow question mark). I've done all the Windows updates. Also all the applicable Lenovo Thinkvanatge updates incuding the latest BIOS.Then I enabled the secure boot again and got the same error message "Unauthorized network card is plugged in".Now I basically function only by using my wired LAN adapter.I probably haven't posted nothing new.The advice would be - "get the Lenovo recognized compatible wireless card.Find the proper FRU and FCC ID combination for your specific model".Frankly I am willing to pay for the proper wireless card! But it's so tough to find all the info needed!I'm so confused reading all the tables/product combinations..And where to get that Lenovo authorized card from? ..cannot see any Lenovo site selling stuff like that!?Can someone please help?My Lenovo T430 laptop credentials with Win 7 Professional (everything's genuine): Type/Product ID: 2344 5GUMy Wireless Network Card:Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205MODEL: 62205ANHMWFCC ID: not sure if I should post it here (but it does have an ID)FRU P/N: 60Y3253LC P/N: 2000253311S60Y3252Please, let me know if more info is needed.I found a few solutions advising some BIOS workarounds - but I don't really want to be "flashing" my BIOS.Thanks in advance for any help.Ian

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello, I just got a brand new Thinkpad Yoga X390. It started fine and I installed Windows updates and Lenovo Vantage updates. Then, after the next power cycle, the following message gets displayed: "1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the network card (8087/07EF). System is halted." There is no way to boot windows nor to enter the BIOS. Any ideas?

A:No windows, no BIOS, just error message "Unauthorized network card is plugged in"

Is this card for the mobile network or for WiFi? Is your configuration directly from Lenovo or a third-party vendor? The 1802 error means that the card is not on the whitelist for the system.

I've searched and seen every thread on this topic and have found no resolution except for a specific ADATA SSD from HP that has a firmware upgrade that gets around this problem. I purchased a KingSpec NT-512 m.2 SATA SSD for my P51s. By specifications, this drive should be perfectly compatible. However, this drive is rejected by the P51s firmware and gives the "1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in" error and refuses to boot to windows. http://www.kingspec.com/products_detail/productId=60.html Has there been any resolution to this issue that I am unaware of? How do I force the P51s to stop rejecting this SSD because it thinks it is an "unauthorized network card"?

Hi,due to a problem with the screen turning black in tablet mode I've opened the case on a newly acquired (a refurbished model) Lenovo Yoga 260 to check for cable connection.I did not touch any circuit/ chip/ component, apart from gently nudging the screen connection cable. Upon the following reboot the system was halted on this error:"1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the network card." I tried this solution without success. If I unplug the Wlan board everything works as expected. If I plug it back the same error is thrown. Could you suggest a solution? Also, where can I find a list of whitelisted wlan adapters for Lenovo Yoga 260. May be they've installed a non whitelisted one on this refurbished system, although it would not make sense for it to throw the error just after opening the case. Thanks for any help. All the best.

I ordered a new wireless card listed for my serial number from Lenovo encompass and I finally got to install it. I put it in, turned on my machine and I get the screen that says "Unauthorized wireless card. Turn off and remove it." (or whatever it actually says). How can I make this work? I used Lenovo's part that it said would work and now it's not working and I can't boot. I had heard somewhere that setting the BIOS to default might help so I did that and it did nothing for me. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Hello everybody, I wanted to upgrade the wifi card in my t420, from what it came with(just said ThinkPad b/g/n on the receipt), to the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 (Puma Peak) 3x3 AGN since i needed to be able to use a 5ghz network. I specifically choose that puma peak one, because i saw in the t420 manual that it was supported, and i'd heard of issues with unsupported cards. So i finally got the wificard, and even though i picked a supported one i get this message:1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the miniPCI netwok card (8086/422B/8086/1101).System is haltedWhat have gone wrong? And could i be because this card wasnt ordered directly from lenovo, but from some random danish vendor who had it? I've tried to google around, but without luck. Only thing i can think of trying right now is taking it out again and tripplechecking that its seated properly. Hope you guys can help me, and i hope i wont have to hack the bios whitelist or something, seeing how this network card should work without that. Thanx in advance!  /Chris  edit:after some more searching and finding this link http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-69757 it would appear that the issue is due to the card not having been bought directly from lenovo. but they dont have the card available in my country (denmark). which basically means im screwed and would have to find some sort of workaround solution. fml

A:1802 Unauthorized network card

Yes, this is expected. Each computer manufacturer has their own whitelist for wireless cards for standards compliance. Hence, a non-Lenovo card will cause this errorYou'll need to use a modded BIOS, which may or may not be available for the T420 yet.

I too got  the unauthorized network card error.I have two lenovo y50-70 running centos7. One had a broadcom card and the other had the intel card. The intel card was supported easily by centos7 but the broadcom card was not. So I bought the same model intel wireless card from some random vendor and replaced the broadcom card and got the error. So my choices now are to get the driver to work for the broadcom card or use a usb wireless device. I think we should have the option of turning of that authorized card check through the bios. I have no complaints using Centos7. The only problem was the broadcom wirelses card. Broadcom does not seem to support it on a Linux machine, at least not easily. If Lenovo is going to continue using those cards they should push broadcom to support it on linux or not use the cards atr all. Cheap lesson. I'll just have to shop around more next time I buy a laptop.

Hi all :-) I know this topic has been around a lot, but until now, I have not found a solution which I'm happy with, I hope anybody can help me! I bought a L540 some time ago and my version had not the AC wireless adapter included, but I thought "ok, maybe I will just get that a bit later, Lenovo is pretty open to people who would like to switch stuff". So yesterday I bought the "Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260" (the one who was only available in another model) and replaced it with my current one. Startup and - "unauthorized network card". I started googling, apparently there is some kind of whitelist in the BIOS - I did not buy an Apple device for exactly this reason (also there are other reasons, but mainly this). So how can I solve this? Is there a foolproof procedure which I can apply so my new wireless card can work? I have seen some tutorials, but they are not exactly made for my Laptop. If there is no procedure, where can I buy a genuine adapter? The Lenovo store won't offer me any wireless cards. Oh and does that mean that I can't replace ANYTHING with a not genuine part? In case I would like to switch my HDD or RAM? I hope you can help! If you need more information, just let me know. Greetings from Germany,Pausmann

I have a t430u model 3351 that is 13 months old.  I updated all the drivers through the Lenovo system update, the last thing to update was the BIOS.  The BIOS successfully updated to version 2.08 and everthing was fine.  Then I had to reboot the computer due to some windows updates, upon turning back on I get the 1802 Unauthorized network card is plugged in. I never replaced the network card, it is the original card so I think the BIOS update is causing the problem.  I pulled the network card and the FRU P/N on the card is 04W3763.  With the card out it boots up again but I can't believe the card is the issue since it's the original part in a 13 month old machine. Not sure what to do, I'm hoping there is a way to roll back the BIOS maybe. Any suggestions appreciated.

A:1802 Unauthorized network card after bios update

Good afternoon and welcome to the community.

A question... Did you purchase the machine new, direct from Lenovo, or used from a 3rd party?

Regards.

Edit to follow-up: Looking at the FRU BOM for the T430U:
http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/t430u_fru_bom_20130822.pdf
you'll see the section for wireless adapters. There are three for WLAN, one Intel, and as best I can determine, two RealTek. Your FRU, which again as best I can tell, is a Broadcom, isn't on the list. That would be a reason for your 1802 error hitting the BIOS whitelist.

So, if you got the machine from a 3rd party, what likely happened is that they swapped in the non-whitelisted card and applied a modified BIOS to make it all work. Once you updated with the official BIOS, you essentially reapplied the whitelist and the boot fails with 1802.

Greetings all. I've been having connectivity issues with my Thinkpad Yoga 11e. I'd be online and then network dropped in the next instance and the computer was having problems reconnecting to the wifi signal. I'd say it's an internet issue except no other device in the home (iPhones, iPad, Kindle, HP work laptop) don't experience this problem.  To combat this, I opened my machine up, saw I had an Intel 7260NGW, went to Amazon and purchased the same model. I'm not looking for an upgrade, I'm looking for fewer dropped connections.  Fast forward to this evening and I get the "1802: Unauthorized Network Card is plugged in - power off and remove the network card (8086 / 0881 / 8086 / C070)". How do I have compatibility issues if I bought the same model card? And what card can I get to replace the one I have if not the same model?  Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me!

Hello there,  Few days ago,  i bought Lenovo ThinkPad x230!  ( So far i love it! It's awesome !!!! ) After using it for few days i found out that you can get SIM card for it, and use mobile broadband on it. I loved that idea, so i went out and i got new SIM card for my laptop.  After inserting it i found out that my ThinkPad doesn't have WWAN Card installed! SO RIP !?   I googled and googled and googled....and i found list of WWAN Cards that are compatible with my Thinkpad List of WWAN Cards , and then i found a video Youtube Video in which i learned how to install WWAN Card in my Thinkpad!  Then i went to a website in my country that sells new/used PC parts... and i found this card " F5521 ", and i bought it.... ( Now on the card i bought, it says " F5521gw"...is that fine or ? ) Guess what happened? I installed it, i tried booting the laptop, and it showed me this : 1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the miniPCI network card. (03f0/3a1d) . I powered off and removed it...and i turned on my laptop normally.... Now, what can i do, in order to use this card? ( I found a bunch of "Hacks" online, but i didn't want to risk anything...so that is why i am asking here... i will post pictures of the WWAN card....if that will help... ) Please help me!

Welcome to the CommunityIndeed, F5521 is one of the wwan modems that x230 supports. But the specific modem you have is for HP systems, not Lenovo ones. So, x230 doesn't work with this modem with error you've faced. Replace it by x230' supported modem with Lenovo p/n (FRU).

Lenovo T430 running win7 home premium 64bit.

Wife purchased new in 2013 and it has been problematic almost from the get-go. The machine was very slow to operate, slow to execute various mouse commands and such. The machine had some sort of warning message pop up in constantly the lower left corner that said something to the effect of the back-up section of the drive was full and needed addressed. It would not allow any modification to the drive(s), the files, or the partitions via the OS tools.

Wife got frustrated with it and took it into the local computer repair place to have it fixed. They 'cleaned it up', saying it 'should run faster now', but the error message was not eliminated and the machine ran only marginally faster.

Wife purchased a new laptop and now I have the Lenovo. I used it for a month before becoming completley frustrated with it. I tried some things like scaning for viruses, malware etc but found little to nothing in that regard. The slowness kept getting worse and worse to the point that the machine was pretty much unusable.

In a fit of frustration and short of just throwing the thing away, I formated the drive using Darik's Boot and Nuke. Then installed a full version of Vista, then an upgrade version of win7 home premium. These two installs seem to go ok and the machine is booting up fine in win7. The error message is gone, as is the slowness as near as I can tell.

I got a T420 on ebay, one in excellent condition. It has worked just fine until I started using a mini dock. The first time the laptop was running, I placed it into the dock and it worked fine. I put it to sleep and when I woke it up the network card wouldn't work and it seemed like the machine froze. I took it off the dock, it was still frozen, pressed the power button to power it off, pressed power again to start up and got the dreaded error: 1802 - unauthorized network card is plugged in power off and remove the minipci . . . . . .   I restarted in safe mode, was fine, restarted in regular mode, was fine. Placed into dock. Tried shutting down. On restart same problem. So now I have to start it up only when not docked then place it on the dock. I used the hardware info tool to get all the detailed device info. The network card is: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 AGN 2x2 HMCwhich I believe is the default original card that came with it. I have read the another thread here about people getting this error with other non-whitelisted cards and the whole messed up thing with Lenovo and not allowing people to use "unauthorized" cards. Each time i load up my computer everything is running nice and smoothly when i start to open up alot of things that uses internet (or simply play a game) all of a sudden my network card dies and starts saying "An Ethernet cable is not plugged in" blah blah. Anyways the cable works 100% I've tried about 6 different cables all resulting in the same thing..

I've tried updating the driver that still didn't fix
I've tried uninstalling the network adapter and reinstall didn't fix it
I've disabled Ivp6 thingy still doesn't fix it

I was having network connectivity issues earlier tonight so I decided to disable my network card and re-enable it (I'm using xp home). So, I go ahead with this plan but when I re-enable the connection my computer decides to restart itself.
I have noticed the computer restarts itself ONLY when accessing the network card. If the computer is not connected to the network, it stays running like it should. As soon as I plug the cable in the computer reboots itself. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the card in windows but as soon as the card starts to be installed again the computer reboots. I thought maybe the network card was bad, tried another one and the same thing is happening.

My laptop is four years old and all of a sudden when I turn it on I receive an 'unauthorized battery' notification. It's still the original battery I got with the computer. The battery doesn't charge anymore. Do I need to buy a new battery or can I do something to check if it's some other issue?

Hi! I have a T430 2347CTO. The notebook has an Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, 11bgn, 11ac) adapter installed. 1. The WLAN adapter is causing problems and I'd like to replace it, but I'm not sure what I should install instead. Any tips? 2. I'd like to install a WWAN adapter, but I'm not sure if my model has the required antenna installed. Does anybody know if it has?

A:Thinkpad T430 - replace WLAN card and add WWAN card

I confirmed that this WLAN card will work: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-wifi-Card-for-Lenovo-Thinkpad-X230-T430-60Y...

And I also confirmed this WWAN card will work: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gobi3000-3G-WWAN-Card-60Y3257-for-Thinkpad-X220-X230-T420-T430-W520-W530/22...

The WLAN card is N wireless; and the WWAN card is 3G.  The ones I linked to are shipping from the US and the best price I could find.

Hope that helps!

First, you guys are great as I had an issue back in 08 which you helped me with. You provide a wonderful service and all of us really appreciate what you do! Anyway, I don't know what I picked up on my computer but it looks like classic signs of some kind of hijack virus. Here are the symptoms: 1) I received a notification from McAfee Security Center on my computer that an outside request to access my contact list was attempted. Has happened 3 or 4 times over the last several days. 2) When I boot up I get warnings from both Ad-Watch and McAfee Security that attempts to change my registry are occurring. Here are the details: "attempt to alter a protected object"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, software\microsoft\current\version\policies\explorer, value: BindDirectlyToPropertyStorage, data:0, new data:0. Second change is to Google Toolbar Notifier. Third change is to McAfee Registry. 3) I am receiving notifications from McAfee Security Center that my "computer is not protected". When I open it indicates that both the Computer & Files section and Email & IM sections are unprotected. This oddly enough only happens late at night like it is set to disable McAfee at a certain time each day. Just a guess. 4) Of course the computer is crazy slow in some cases and when I open my Task Manager, I am using 98% of my memory. This computer has 6GB of RAM and it should never be that high. It looks like much of the memory is being used by IE ... Read more

Hi1. Does your laptop have wwan card installed? What's the model? Check out in the Device Manager, Network Adapters thread.2. Are there any unknown devices in the Device Manager?3. Be sure wwan card is enabled in the BIOS Setup (Secutity menu, I/O Port Access)4. Be sure hardware wireless radio switch is turned on (on the right side of the case)

I originally bought this off eBay about 2 years ago. The only issue it has had is that the battery seemed to drain quickly as whenever I had the laptop on without the AC adaptor plugged in, the computer would shut off on its own within 10 seconds or so. As long as I plugged in the AC adaptor to the laptop, it ran with no problems However, when I tried to power on the laptop yesterday, even with the AC adaptor, it would no longer power on. I did just come back home from the airport, so maybe that had something to do with it? I followed all the steps here: https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001127.htm After following some of the steps, when I hit the power button on the laptop, it would flash for a second or so, and then stop flashing. Nothing ever appeared on the screen What is the next step for troubleshooting? Do I just have to remove the hard drive and/or RAM and place them back in and try powering it on again? Or take it to a repair shop?
