I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

my entire situation is posted there (most relevant can be found on the last page.)

Please help I have been working tirelessly for 3 wks to fix my computer, I'm so dissapointed that I finally resorted to formatting my HD and now it is slower then ever.

There are 107 system updates, even doing 1 at a time ia taking far to long and often freezing...

The title of this thread says you did a clean install. Does that mean you formatted the disc and then installed the OS? If so, did you then install all appropriate drivers beginning with the chipset driver?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium from scratch on a 2010(2009?) HP p6500z desktop (64-bit) for a friend who says the computer might have a virus. I've already did this before, but never for somebody else, only for myself, so I want to make sure I have all the right information before proceeding.

If I'm correct, one is supposed to install drivers in the following order:
1) Install the OS
2) Install Service Pack 1(if not included in install disc)
3) Install chipset/motherboard driver
4) Install sound
5) Install network interface card or nic
6) Install video driver
7) Install all Windows updates
Feel free to correct the order if you think I'm wrong.

The processor is an AMD Sempron 140 Processor 2.70 GHz.

The only thing is I can't find the chipset/motherboard driver listed on HP's website:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers...3/model/4242485#Z7_3054ICK0K8UDA0AQC11TA930O2

Also keep in mind that this was a CTO deskop, which stands for configure to order, where you can choose the networking, sound, etc..., so I'm not sure which drivers to install.

Would anybody be so kind as to provide a list of links of drivers, in the order they need to be installed?

I have downloaded the necessary drivers and have mounted the .exe files onto a USB pen for installation.

Before I proceed to wipe windows 8 I'd like to know - if I install 7, will my trackpad stop functioning?

If so, how do I install the relevant drivers from the USB pen?

Thanks, John

99.9% sure that W7 will identify the trackpad and install it. You just run the exe's using file explorer or Start >Run then browse. You may decide to leave the laptop as the W7 install left it but you should check Device Manager to ensure there are no unrecognised devices

I usually like to choose the drivers and install them one by one from the DVD. Hi: For the graphics, download and run this driver.  You will most likely get an unsupported operating system error. Close out of any error windows. This package contains the NIVDIA VGA display driver for the NVIDIA GeForce Go Graphics in the supported notebook models and operating system. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35501-36000/sp35686.exe Then go to the device manager, click to expand the display adapters device manager category. Click on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.  Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file. That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp35686. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install. Then restart the PC. Wireless: There is no W10 driver for the model wlan card your notebook has. The only suggestion I can offer would be to try the W7 driver... This package contains the Broadcom Wireless LAN Drivers that are required to enable the integrated Broadcom Wireless LAN Adapter in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49501-50000/sp49541.exe

Hello there, I recently did a clean install of Windows 8.1 on my Lenovo G50-45 and I'm wondering which drivers I need to install and how I can access them? When viewing my Device Manager, the 4 yellow exclamation errors I'm seeing are for the following:1. Network Controller2. PCI Encryption/Decryption Controller3. Unknown device4. USB2.0-CRW Since it was a clean install, I'm wondering if there are drivers I may need in addition to the ones shown in the Device Manager. For example, when I push the brightening/dimming function on the keyboard, nothing happens. The volume function works, but I have no tried playing music or listening to anything to test it.  I tried searching for the drivers on the Lenovo site, but may have the incorrect Serial number, as no results come up. I purchased the laptop from a previous user, so they may have attached the incorrect Serial number.  Any help would be appreciated so I can set up my laptop.  Thank you!Keith

Hi

How do I perform a clean re-install of Windows 7 which would completely remove motherboard drivers on the system? This is my very first self-build and I have some system instability as some motherboard drivers failed to install correctly. For example, despite having installed an audio hd driver, the audio GUI kept turning on and off by itself and so I've had to disable it. It's properties in Device Manager says it is not working properly because it has a problem.

My usual way of re-installing Windows 7 is as follows -

Custom (advanced) → Choose drive partition to completely erase (primary) → Drive Options (advanced) → Format → OK → Choose Disk 0 Partition (unallocated space) → Next → Installing Windows.

This method always leaves the motherboard drivers intact and I need to get rid of them and start afresh. My new build specs is -

Motherboard: ASUS B85M-G
Processor: Intel Core i5 4570 3.2GHz (s1150)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 1600 XMP 2 x 4GB

Thanks.

A:Clean re-install of Windows 7 and motherboard drivers

Well; the way I know to do this is first to do a complete format of the drive you want to re install windows on. Doing a format should completely erase any and all drivers so that you can do a complete reinstall of windows. Try giving this a shot and see what happens. Report back if it does not do anything and we can try and go from there. I did notice you said that formatting the drive still leaves the motherboard drivers still in tact. however, when you format; make sure you do not just a minimal format but a complete format.

A:DRIVERS HELP. Going to clean Install Windows 7. Inspiron 570

I think the logical way to do this is install in sequence :

Windows
Chipset drivers
SATA
Video
Audio
LAN  and WLAN

There is the possibility that Windows might ask for the SATA drivers either before or during the Windows install.

Given that you say that you have had a problem with the network I would get hold of a copy of 'Speccy' from here

www.piriform.com

A very useful utility which will tell - as well as far more information that you won't need at the time ! - exactly what hardware you have built into your computer. Armed with the knowledge of exactly what LAN and WLAN hardware you have, finding the correct drivers becomes much easier. One other tip - Dells very often come with a barcode on them somewhere. If you type the number off the barcode into Dell's support page you will get taken directly to a page where all your drivers are available.

Hey guys, im new to these forums, so i dont know if im posting this in the right section, but anyways i want to do a clean install of my windows 7 home premium 64bit, i have a dell inspiron laptop, not sure what model number, but i think its a N117, or something like that, anyways i just got it like a couple of months ago of this year

So my question is could i install the drivers from windows update? i do have the driver disc that came with it, but its very confusing and not very straightforward, i had to select each and every drive but i dont know which one is the right one, i wish it was how it was with mac bootcamp how you just pop in you mac installation disc and click next and begin to install, by the way i did this twice now and it feels like my computer is slower than when i first got it, and it could be the dell drivers

So is there anyway to do this, i know you have to have internet for windows update to work but is there anyway other to do this?

Also i know that some computers already have the drivers install when you reformat and do a clean install, im pretty sure im doing the install correctly, i always go to custom advanced and reformat, unless that not correct then please correct me if im wrong

Hi,

To have Windows install important updates as they become available, turn on automatic updating. Click on the URL mentioned for reference: </SPAN>http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Turn-automatic-updating-on-or-off

I would suggest you to install the drivers from the driver disc or you can even go to the URL mentioned for driver’s installation: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/NeedProductSelection

For windows 7 installation, you can refer to the URL which will guide you with the snapshots:
http://www.door2windows.com/how-to-install-windows-7/

Back up your files before you begin reinstalling Windows 7 if possible, even if you're reinstalling Windows 7 on a hard disk partition, and you have personal files on a separate partition. For example, if you have encrypted files, you might not be able to access them after reinstalling Windows. A custom installation replaces the current version of Windows 7and all personal files.

Hope this helps.

Hello, I plan to buy a used genuine copy of Windows 7 with the product key.

I thing is, I read this article about how I won't be able to go online with my modem after a new install:

The myth of driver backups | PCWorld
Basically when I do a fresh install of Windows 7, I will not be able to connect online to update my drivers for my ethernet & display & Windows will not recognize the drivers from a USB stick without an installer either!?

I will have to manually download them from the manufacturers site, but my PC is used & had a lot of off shelf upgrades, it isn't a HP/Dell/Acer PC to just get the driver installer from their website.

How would I know what to download & where?

A:Windows 7 won't go online & won't download drivers after clean install

Yes, just download the drivers installer before reformatting and you'll be able to install those.

This tutorial helps in determining your exact hardware: Speccy - Advanced System Information Tool

Look at the model of the network card, motherboard, chipset, video card, wifi adapter, or any other thing you might have. Then with the manufacturers/models, just google those and download them from each individual website.

The HP/Dell/Ace/whatever brand is just a commercial name. They only take ready parts from the hardware manufacturers, assemble it, infect with crapware and relabel it before selling, but that's all. The drivers themselves will never come from them, directly.

Just bought a new Dell Inspiron i5559-3349SLV with windows 10 pre-installed. I am planning on doing a clean install this weekend, but I'm not completely clear which drivers to download to complete the reinstall.

It has a 128GB SSD, so I know I need this driver. There is a newer and older version - does it matter which I use?

For the wifi drivers here (under network), there are two wifi options. How do I determine which driver is the right one? Also, for all the other drivers, do these need to be downloaded or will Windows 10 automatically download all of those again after the install?

Lastly, out of the drivers listed on Dell's driver reinstall guide, which are actually necessary?

Apologies for the noob questions. Thanks!

Hi,

Prior to reformatting, I scanned the laptop with several tools and it picked up some malwares, most of them were adwares that Superantispyware detected. Thus, I performed a low level format using diskpart command "clean all" with a system recovery cd provided by a manufacturer from another laptop brand and as soon as Windows 7 was finished installing, I noticed both the wireless and LAN network drivers were already preinstalled. Is this normal or am I still infected? I've never had drivers preinstalled after performing a low level format until now.

I also read that the bios or other parts could be infected but the probability of that happening is very slim.

Please help.

Hey all,

I have just installed the new Anniversary Windows 10 by clean installing, not upgrading over the previous version. Something odd has happened though, can't explain it.

My process:
1. Downloaded the latest build to a USB using the media creation tool;
2. Removed all the hard drives (physically unplugged them) except my OS drive (SSD);
3. Installed Windows 10 Pro in UEFI mode by selecting the custom option and deleting ALL partitions as per the guide in these forums;

My disk just shows the one "unallocated space".

Everything went fine BUT when Windows booted up to the desktop after installing, my original customised wallpaper was there. How can that be? Surely that is not possible on a CLEAN install? Where did Windows find this wallpaper and how did it know to load it?

Thanks in advance!

The problem goes away for a while when I reinstall the drivers by pointing the search location to a "Intel® Ethernet Adapter Complete Driver Pack" I downloaded from Intel's website, spesifically for the 82579LM Gigabit Network controller. It's completely random when the problem comes back again and the internet stops working. How do I troubleshoot the source of this problem and get rid of it completely? I have tried the drivers from Lenovo, and they make no difference. Using a D-Link W-LAN dongle atm.

This isn't a major problem, but I would just like to understand how it happened.

Some background. This is a Windows 10 clean install on a new SSD drive. The original HDD is still in the computer with a corrupt version of Windows 8 on it. My Windows 10 installation did not require a password to log on.

Last evening I searched, in the app store, for a version of Spider Solitaire that I had previously used on Windows 8. The app store wanted me to log on to download and install it. I think my mistake was that I used my old password to attempt to log on, maybe should have left that field blank. The app store didn't recognize my old password, probably because none was setup, and then I proceeded with the whole "forgot password", "new password" setup routine.

Now, this morning, when I boot up Windows I have to use a password to log on. I think I understand how that happened and have already corrected it. But what I don't understand is when Windows boots to the desktop my old Windows 8 background image is back! That picture is not even on my C drive! It does still reside somewhere on the old D drive, but how did this happen?

A:Windows 8 desktop background image returned on Win 10 clean install?

Ok the way this work is to access the store you need your MS account login. To login to Windows 10 you need a MS account or a local account. You can login using a local account when you click on the store it will ask for your username and PW the first time but after that is stored for future use. The same is true with Onedrive. If you login to Windows with your MS account some setting are stored with your account and wallpaper (background) is one of them. This is the same with Chrome if you login using your Gmail account your favorite will display in the Chrome browser.

Hello RJ,

If you like, you could use OPTION ONE to create yourself a Windows 7 installation DVD or USB flash drive that you could boot from to do a clean install of Windows 7 with at boot instead. The TIP section tells you how to get an official Windows 7 ISO to create this from.

USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

Hope this helps,

Hello everyone,
I had major partition problems and tried fixmbr, fixboot, etc and even rebuilding bcd was not working. I was misguided by one of the other Forums and entered:
DISKPART Select Volume 1
DISKPART Clean Volume 1
The Volume has been cleaned
[If it was to delete all data, I thought it would ask Y or N]
where volume 1 was my C drive. I had data on other drives. Immediately after this the computer hung and I was forced to restart. All this while the MBR was not working and I was on Windows 7 installation disc. Now it does not detect my Hard Disk or any of the Volumes and shows Hard Disk as 249 out of 249 Gb free. I have no choice but to go to Windows 7 Disc where there are no installations or data.
Of what I have read, this command only clears the Partition List..
While I was trying fixmbr, I even used gparted Live disc where it turns out that there is some "recursive" bug which was found.
Please help me, there is vital information on the disk as it is my office computer.
I need to recover all the data. Its very urgent. I have committed a huge blunder but is there way ?

A:DISKPART clean performed accidently. how to recover data?

Do not format the drive or do anything other than download and burn to CD free Partition Wizard, burn to CD using Windows Image Burner.

Boot PW CD by tapping the one-time BIOS boot menu key at boot, choose DVD/CD drive to boot.

Then follow this video for Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard - Video Help.

Hi all,

I'm working on a re-install of all components following a complete corruption of the boot sector on my drive which could not be fixed with repairs. The last time I installed everything fresh, I had no issues. Between then and now, there have been no hardware changes on my system, but now I am having issues installing the IDT Codecs.

I keep getting an error along the following lines:

Quote:
ExitError: Error=Device Object not present, restart the system and run setup again.

Running under compatibility mode, and running drivers from both the motherboard CD and the manufacturer website both have the same effect. The CD, when booted, says "This OS not support!" and only contains 32-bit vista codecs. ECS' website download indicates the IDT drivers as being compatible with Win7. Both do not work. It is almost as if the hardware "disappeared," despite the fact that I was using the drivers quite successfully till just 2 days ago, when the boot sector went kaput.

Windows has installed its own default set, which do nothing to power the 8mm jacks which I use with my speakers, but instead put sound through the HDMI, which is useless because I use a dedicated graphics card. I have tried uninstalling this codec and re-installing IDT, to no effect. Windows replaces with its own default codec.

I have referenced this thread here, but offered solutions do not seem to work for me: Intel IDT Audio Driver will not install

A:IDT Audio Drivers Won't Install - Win7x64, clean install

Do you actually have the newer IDT audio chip or an older SigmaTel audio chip. In most cases the newer IDT drivers will not work with the older SigmaTel chips.

If the drivers are Vista compatible and the correct IDT or Sigmatel (32 and/or 64) they should work in Win 7.

When you reinstalled did you install any motherboard chipset drivers? Generally, on a reinstall if the chipset drivers are not installed then some device drivers and especially sound drivers will not install.

Hello everyone,
this is my first time here. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this problem, as it has made everything grind to a halt.

My main computer just died, so I figured I'd take my old computer, which was never hooked up to the internet (in order to always keep it clean as a baby's rear end), and use it to run either diagnostics and/or data recovery software on my malfunctioning C drive from my dead computer.

The old computer had XP pro sp2 on it, with a P4 3.4 processor, and an Intel board. The first obstacle, was getting it online. Simply plugging in the networking cable did nothing. After endless amounts of reading, it seems that because they computer was never meant to be online, the networking (or "LAN"?) drivers were never installed. After many tries and much confusion, I finally had someone find them online for me, put the drivers on a thumbdrive, and after a few attempts I was able to get this old girl connected. But I must say, for those who don't really know what they are doing very well, the procedure for setting up the network connections was anything but easy. The automated system for doing it failed every time. No reason way. So I finally managed to do it manually, somehow. To be honest, I don't even remember now. When you attempt to do something for 12 hours in a row, trying every possible solution, it's easy to forget specifics.

Anyway, I got hooked into the internet. The next step was upgrading to SP 3, which I had already p... Read more

Hello everyone,

The rig: Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series (5748) laptop.

The problem: Laptop stuck in what appears to be common "Dell Logo and spinning dots" loop at bootup. Samsung HDD crash, confirmed by Dell ePSA diagnostics and S.M.A.R.T. run from Ubuntu Live DVD, replaced with HGST 1TB Travelstar HDD. New HDD is seen and properly identified in BIOS and Ubuntu Live. So HDD problem apparently fixed. And if I can run Ubuntu Live off of a DVD, the DVD drive is also in working order.

The situation: Clean install of Windows 8.1 (Laptop owners request) hanging at Dell or Windows logo. Windows 8.1 installation DVD made using Microsoft Media Creation Tool.

DVD spins up on power ON, seeks and flashes for approximately 30 seconds, Dell logo and spinning dots appear, DVD drive winds down and nothing more. I've waited hours for installation to resume. Nothing.

I've tried making a bootable USB stick, using both Microsoft Media creation Tool and Rufus, to pretty much the same result. USB stick flashes for 15 seconds on powerup, then stops flashing, Dell logo and spinning dots appear then nothing. Again, having read the installation may take some time to start, I have left it to "think" for over an hour.

I have tried, with both the DVD media and USB stick, pretty much every permutation of BIOS settings; Default settings, UEFI with Fast Boot ON/OFF, Secure Boot ON/OFF, Legacy boot with Fast Boot ON/OFF and Secure Boot ON/OFF, etc.

Create a bootable USB Flash Drive using Rufus in my signature. Under Partition Scheme and target system type choose GPT Partition Scheme for UEFI Bios,
Browse it to the Windows ISO image and burn it to a USB Flash drive. Put that in the troubled machine and boot into Setup (Bios) here, set Secure Boot Off or change it to Setup Mode. Fast Boot Off. Enable UEFI Bios, Move the Flash Drive to First Boot Device. Save and Exit.
With the Flash Drive in, restart and it should boot off of the Newly Created Media and start the install. See how you get on.

Ok I secure erased my SSD with Parted magic as I have done numerous times before. I am using a newly downloaded ISO on a USB stick by using RUFUS. I can get to the point to where I want to repair my computer to use a dos prompt to clean, create and format the partition. I try to click on Troubleshoot icon but nothing happens. I try the Turn off your PC, nothing happens. The mouse works fin up to this point and are able to move it around the screen. I just can't get it to enter the icon I select.

Thanks in advance!

A:Windows 10 Clean Install Problem

If you secure erased the HD there is no Command Prompt to get to. I believe (may be wrong) that to use Command Prompt there has to be an installed Windows on the drive. Doesn't have to be working or bootable but needs to be there.

Why not just proceed with the install. Don't allocate any partitions, let the Windows installer create what it needs during the install process.
