T580 Won't detect a second external monitor

Q: T580 Won't detect a second external monitor

T580 (fresh from factory). Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 driver (12/27/2017 - 23.20.16.4905). Intel Core i7 vPro 8th Gen. Windows 10 64 bit (freshly updated). Lenovo Vantage system update freshly updated. (today's date: 4/28/2018) LG display plugged into HDMI port on Thunderbolt adapter which is plugged into the USB-C port on left side.HP display plugged into HDMI port on right side. Either display is detected just fine if I unplug the other one; but when both are present, it only detects one of them. This exact configuration was working fine on my T470, Intel Core i5, vPro, 7th Gen. So, bigger and better (and more $$) is worse. My bet would be on a driver issue. (Windows won't let me install the Intel April 2018 driver - it says probably because the manufacturer did custom driver coding.)

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: T580 Won't detect a second external monitor

UPDATE: Well, ok, it DOES appear to TRY to "detect" the display when I first plug it in. But it has no properties (e.g., Resolution) and the #3 icon on the layout panel soon disappears and clicking the Detect button won't bring it back (unless I unplug my other monitor - then it detects fine and works fine).

Ok.. I'll try to keep this breif. I bought this laptop SPECIFICALLY for the capability to run 2 external monitors via Thunderbolt 3. I have spent thousands of dollars on the laptop, monitors, and cables and put hours of research into making sure everything was compatible and it won't work.  My setup is as follows: Thinkpad T580 with TB3 portTB3 to Dual DisplayPort Adapter(x2)Monitors are both 32" Samsung 1080P monitors at 60hz (NOT 4k) Here's what I have done: Updated display drivers directly from Intel(newer than Lenovo provides)Updated BIOSUpdated FirmwareBought MULTIPLE adapters thinking it was possible an adapter problem.Bought MULTIPLE cables thinking it could be a cable problemI called Lenovo tech support and, after 10 minutes of convincing the tech that my laptop even has a TB3 port he obviously was unable to resolve it so I was mailed a new motherboard and a tech came to my house and swapped the board out. Same issue.  The laptop detects only ONE monitor at a time. If I plug them both in to the displayport adapter, one of them will work, the other will say it's not connected. If I unplug the monitor that is on, the previously undetected monitor will immediately be detected and turn on.  If I plug the undetected monitor into the HDMI slot it will detect and output. But this is NOT the functionality that I have spent thousands of dollars for.   I am out of ideas and now quite sure that, even though the marketin... Read more

Hello,
I just bought an HP Envy 23" All-In-One desktop a few months ago and am just now attempting to pair it with an external monitor (TV) via the HDMI port. The computer doesn't even detect that it's been hooked up to anything and the TV still says "no signal". I tried the same HDMI cable and TV with my laptop and it works fine, so it must be the computer. Any suggestions? Is it a driver problem? I don't know much tech-wise, but am willing to try if anyone has any ideas on how I can fix this.

The operating system is Windows 8.1 and the monitor is an AOC Envision 22" TV, model number L22H998. I visited the AOC website in search of a driver and didn't see the model listed. Is there perhaps an equivalent I could use? I don't know much about drivers.

Thanks and let me know if any more info is required for an accurate diagnosis.

A:New Computer (Win 8.1) Won't Detect External Monitor

Hi Dejalive, welcome to the Eight Forums.

Couple of questions:
Is the TV signal input set to correct HDMI port (for instance if the cable is in HDMI2 in TV, the TV signal input must be set to HDMI2)?Does the Windows Screen Resolution Tool show the TV when HDMI cable is connected both to PC and TV?If Screen Resolution does not show the TV by default, does clicking the Detect button help?

Ok so i have Sager np9150 laptop with nvidia 670m 1.5gb ram graphic card and integrated Intel hd 4000.
the monitor im trying to connect to is a Lg Flattron wide 2000:1 digitial fine contrast with 5 ms response time. I bought a hdmi to dvi adapter cable so that i can hook the hdmi side to my laptop and the dvi side to my monitor since it doesn't have a hdmi slot.

before plugging the hdmi side into the laptop my monitor say check signal cable. when i plug the HDMI side into my laptop the check signal cable disappear and it say digital power saving and then it stay in that mode.

I don't think the cable is faulty since i try it on my desktop and extended to it and it work. I plug the HDMI into my gts250. but when i plug it on integrated card it did not work.

I've already try the fn+f key it doesn't work. i try another monitor and it work but i don't why this monitor wont work

A:My laptop cannot detect external Monitor

Have you checked your Display Options?

With the monitor connected, right click on the desktop and choose Screen Resolution. In the window that opens you can (should) see two monitors, and options for using them.

If you don't see 2 monitors, the click the Detect button and see if it is recognized then.

right click on the desktop and go to properties, once in there check for a display tab or something like that

if you see 2 'monitors' in there, simple check 'extend monitor'

should work.

if not use the go by from HP, in this example they are connecting a TV and an External Monitor, disregard steps for TV.

Hi,

Os: Vista business 32 bit
ram:1014 mb
processor: intel(r) core (TM) solo cpu 1.33 Ghz
graphics: mobile intel (R) 945 gm express chipset family

I connected my tablet pc to a regular external desktop monitor
using VGA cord.

HCL
OS: Win xp SP 2
intel(R) premium (R) 4 cpu 1.50 ghz
display: plug and play intel(r) 82845G/GL

Siince vista did not recognize the output device automatically as soon as it was connected, Using the "Windows Mobility Center" application I clicked
the "connect display" button but happened. It showed "display connected" and "connected". but nothing came up on monitor.

I clicked on the "connect display" button again from the Windows
Mobility Center -> Detecting -> pop up options for "how do you want to
use the external display" again. I was provided with three options
1. External display only
2. Mirrored.
3. Extend to external display.

Tried all the three options but nothing happened. So i am trying to figure this thing out. Is it something to do with drivers. I dunno. I am trying to figure this thing out. Any help would be much appreciated.

A:Sony vaio ux180p vista does not detect external monitor

there is a possibility that the monitor also needs a driver. you can check by typing device manager in search. go to the display tab and make sure there is you video card and external monitor. The monitor needs to be connected at the time.

I found this post (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/How-many-DisplayPorts-are-available-on-t...) that seems to indicate that this cannot be done, but it doesn't make sense since the dock utilizes two USB-C connections from the T580. Can a DP and USB-C on the dock be used for two 4k monitors? Is there any combination of ports that would allow the dock to support two 4ks? Will Lenovo be releasing a monitor compatibility matrix soon for their new laptop lineup, like this one: https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/solutions/pd029622#USB-C%20dock ? I appreciate any help!

Once again, switchable graphics only controls which GPU is used for rendering. It does not change which GPU is physically wired to the display outputs, and all 3 of the features I listed earlier require support from the GPU that is physically wired to the display output in order to be used. Currently, Intel GPUs do not support any of those features, so in a system with the design you want, those features couldn?t be used even if the system had a dGPU that supported those features, because the dGPU wouldn?t be physically wired to the display output. I?m sitting on an XPS 15 right now that is designed the way you want and has switchable graphics with an NVIDIA GPU that supports those features ? but my system can?t use any of them because the iGPU is wired to the display outputs. Switchable graphics does not fix that. You can shout in Caps Lock and say things as many times as you want, but that won?t make you right. You clearly don?t fully understand how some of these technologies work and what they require, but if you still think I?m wrong, go do some research and you?ll find lots of threads of people asking why their laptops with NVIDIA GPUs don?t support G-Sync or VR ? or 5K displays, which is another one I forgot about. This will be the reason why.
Anyway, I?ve already correctly answered your original question ? you?re welcome for that, by the way. I?m sorry it?s not the answer you wanted and that you don?t seem to recognize why Dell impleme... Read more

I have an HP laptop and I have been running it with dual monitors. I finally decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and after I installed it I noticed that the built in monitor of my laptop looked strange and when I opened the display settings to change the screen resolution and set the external monitor as a separate monitor rather than a mirror I noticed that only one monitor was detected and it was the external one (Generic non-pnp monitor on standard VGA graphics adapter) and the built in monitor does NOT show up at all.

I've tried the detection button, in hopes that the computer would read the built in monitor and I could fix the problem. This did not help. I tried unplugging/replugging the external monitor to no avail. I tried restarting without the external monitor plugged in and it STILL reads the built in monitor as if it is the external one. Is there anyway to fix this? I have not tried re-installing the OS, not yet anyways.

Any suggestions ?

I am using a 22" screen for my primary screen and the laptop lid open for a secondary screen. The main screens resolution is 1680x1050, I can set it to anything I want and it's always using the full screen. The laptop screen on the other hand will only use the full screen if it's at 1400x1050 resolution (max for that screen, IBM Thinkpad T43). With the large 22" screen I have no trouble reading the screen at high resolutions, the screen is huge, with the little 14" screen though I have to strain to read the screen at 1400x1050.

The problem is when I set the laptop screen to anything lower than 1400x1050, it uses less of the screen. Preferrably I want it at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 (I dont know which I want yet as I can't see the freaking screen at that resolution). At 1280x1024 for instance the useable screen is just a box in the middle, so the "1280x1024" is still barely readable for me cause it's shrunk from full screen, plus it's just annoying only using a portion of the screen.

I have played with the ATI Control Center, the Thinkpad display settings and windows display settings and just cannot get this thing to go full screen at lower resolutions when docked and using the external monitor.

Anyway to resolve this?

Hey i have bought new monitor since my old one sometimes work , sometimes doesn't.When i plugged in my new monitor which is LG TV 24MS53S Smart monitor the mouse has unnatural movements they sluggish and slow and hard to control same whit my tablet. After 2 days i noticed that under Device manager under Monitors it says Generic PnP monitor which is the monitor of my laptop (lenovo y510p) if i am not mistaken. While my monitor is under Audio inputs and outputs as LG TV-C NVIDIA High Definition Audio.I dont know if that what the problems is but i need help to fix my mouse. Also my monitor is connected via HDMI and also when i connect my mouse directly to my monitor it works fine but it can only be used for TV and apps, etc.

A:It doesn't detect my monitor as a monitor

The audio is referring to the audio signal for the TV. I want to make sure I understand you correctly, you are using the external monitor (LG) as your primary display, not dual monitors...?

If this is the case, go back into Device Manager, rt.click the Generic Monitor and choose "Update device driver". As long as the LG monitor is the primary display, and your laptop screen is off, 'Generic Monitor' is referring to whichever monitor is active. If you are using both monitors, then you should have two monitors being shown in device manager.

As far as the mouse feeling 'sluggish', do you mean it's just very slow? What is the screen resolution of your new LG monitor? Is it the same as the laptop monitor? If the resolution is higher, sometimes the mouse will seem sluggish when using a higher resolution, which means you might have to turn up the pointer speed in the mouse's control panel. Before you update the device drivers for the monitor (which may or may not be able to be updated), try reducing the screen resolution of the LG and test the mouse that way.

My PC cannot detect the HD that I removed from the Playstation 3. The HD was working fine, just upgraded for more space and decided to use the old one for backup. I have read many posts about this same problem, however most people want to be able to read and save game data from the HD. I merely want to be able to format it to NTFS. Apparently PS3 works with HD's on FAT32, so I'm guessing it's FAT32 at the moment. When I plug in the USB it chimes as usual but the device won't show up. If I go to device manager it sees what appears to be the bridge in the external caddy that the HD is now in. The light on the caddy also comes on and the HD is spinning. Any ideas why it won't detect the HD?

On that site, scroll down to the 9th black heading; Drivecleanup.zip
It runs as a DOS command, I use this once every few weeks to clear out the USB history, which might be why your PC is having trouble connecting to all your external HDDs. I have used this for years, very useful.

There are simple ways to format external HDDs so they can be used both on PC and Mac. It would be a good idea to format HDDs you know you'll use on both platforms this way. Instructions are usually included with the drive, at least both my LaCie and WD included them.
Hope this helps,
J

As you can see in the title the external recieves power but computers do not detect it whatsoever. This is a friends HD that has personal pictures and videos from deployment and its important to me that we recover them for him. Anyone have any ideas on how to go about doing that?

Thanks for the help!

A:External 1TB spins up but computers do not detect

A few things to try.... plug into another USB port (on the assumption it is USB), if the drive came with a power supply, plug that in to give it extra juice. If neither of these allow the drive to be detected, right click on my computer and go to manage, disk management, and see if it is listed there.

Hope this is of help.

I'm trying to connect my XPS 15 to my TV through an HDMI. I've done Win + P and tried to extend / duplicate the screen, but it doesn't work. I went to the control panel and found out my computer isn't recognizing the HDMI is plugged in. I've tried a few different cables and TV's, but the same thing happens. What is wrong?

Thanks for the help.

A:XPS 15 doesn't detect external display

I found that I had to use the GPU driver software to get my computer to work properly with my TV. Windows wouldn't do it on its own.

I suggest you try stepping through the troubleshooting list here first:

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/p/19428186/20016558.aspx

Looking through other posts, the problem likely rests with the TV. There seems to be no standard for TVs communicating with computers.

Windows 7 will not detect ANY external media, if I plug something into a USB port nothing will even show up on the "My Computer" screen, and the same goes for any disks I put in my disk drive (it still acknowledges the existence of my USB mouse and keyboard however), I have tried with multiple devices and disks, even my disk image mounting program (Daemon Tools) doesn't work.

A:Windows does not detect any external media.

Hi walale12,

Welcome onboard.

1. Were these external media detected before and this happened all of a sudden?

2. Can you correlate anything you did/that happened on your PC after which this happened? For example any new software installation/updates?

3. Can you restore your system back to a point when you installed Daemon Tools? ( I have always viewed Daemon Tools with scorn . As I understand from many User Reports, it can create a lot of problems. Is it the cause in your case, I am wondering.)

Have connected the Seagate 1TB slim, manufactured aug 2017, using a Deltaco cabinette. When connecting this cabinette using USB to a Win7 x64 computer, the drive is NOT detected. But when connecting same cabinette to a WinXP x86, it IS detected.
This clearly points to Win7 and a missing device driver. Seagate has no drivers for download. So the finger is pointed very hard to Win7. But no one at MS is willing to help out, neither Deltaco or Seagate. But is it ok to this sh-t....
When connecting the cabinette with the HDD, it starts blining and this blinking goes on for a very long time. After an hour or so
it stops blinking, but no drive is detected. It was formatted on the WinXP x86 computer with standard parameters.
So, how to I remedy this?

Hi.
So I have an Acer Aspire V5 and it has a internal microphone that does poorly as the fan can be heard. But whenever I connect my headphones (With built in microphone) into the jack it doesn't detect it. My friends can't hear me over skype calls and I've been trying to troubleshoot the problem. Any ideas how to fix this? thanks.

A:Computer can't detect external microphone

I've done some digging with your particular model, and it would appear that a multitude of people are in the same boat as you. The only solution I found was to update your audio drivers, or to uncheck a setting particular setting (located here). If that doesn't work, it's likely that you have a faulty audio jack.

However, in my experience, some audio jacks are finicky when it comes to certain headphones. Because you mentioned that you have headphones with a built-in microphone, it's likely that you have a three-ringed 3.5mm male connector. Some audio jacks don't like that because they expect a two-ringed 3.5mm male connector. Before you rule out a bad jack, see if you can find a pair of headphones that have a two-ringed 3.5mm connector and try that. If you're unsure what I mean, take a look at these pictures for reference (the top is two-ringed, bottom is three):

Hello everyone! well I'm having some trouble getting an external hard drive to be recognized by my computer. I have quite a few already, but I got another one because one of them won't read on my comp, although it will read on my netbook. The new drive I got has the same issue, no go on the comp, but works fine on the netbook.

I tried unplugging all of the other drives but Windows 7 simply won't recognize it being plugged in. No "badump" sound and no icon in My Computer. Tried restarting, nothing. I tried it in all six of my computer's USB ports, but got no better result.

the external hardrive not detected in disk management & device manager (i had added the show all devices registry) any help would be greatly appreciated

Exactly how many drives DO work and what are they? Brand, format, specs?

Which ones DONT work? Brand, format, specs?

Need to know this before going further.

My PC does not detect my microphone when I plug it in.

I have tried using more than one microphone in case the microphone was broken, but no microphone is detected when I plug it in. Likewise, I have made sure that there are no external mute or on/off switches on the microphones which are preventing them from working.

I have made sure all of the drivers are up to date by going through my Device Manager.

I've also toyed with the properties by right-clicking on the icon in the system tray as well as going into the volume control in the control panel, but I still can't get the microphone to work.

The microphone was working as recently as two weeks ago. Whenever I plugged it in, a SigmaTel Audio window would pop up so I could choose that it was my 'rear mic'. Now, however, the SigmaTel Audio window never even pops up, indicating to me, once again, that my PC is not even detecting that a microphone is plugged in.

Any advice?

Hi,
I have a Samsung S2 External Harddrive HXMU0500A. I tried formatting it, which seemed like a simple enough task to from NTFS to exFAT .
It then said 'Windows was unable to complete the format'.
After that I just unticked 'Quick Format' and changed 'Allocation Unit Size' to 4096Kb
I think another messaged popped up, which I forgot what it exactly said, but basically it said something about formatting being cancelled, because it froze.
Anyhow, just unplugged the harddrive, and plugged it in, then afterwards, it just didn't show up on 'My Computer'
I saw something about going into 'Disk Management'
This is all I see
It shows up here though ...
But again not on 'My Computer'
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I'm new here, so I'm sorry if I don't really get what exactly the informations should I share.
I have Toshiba HDD 1TB v63700-c and laptop ASUS A46CB using Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
Recently I can't open my HDD in my laptop, while my laptop still can identify that there is a drive connected via usb drive. When i use my brother's PC, i can access my HDD in My Computer.

I searched for the same problem in this forum, and I get the link : External HDD can't be open but can be partially detected

I tried to do the Rogue Killer Scan and attach the report. So, what do I have to do next ?
Please help me. Thank you so much.

A:External HDD can't be opened, but the laptop still can detect it

I assume (by it's size) that it's a portable HDD (no power adapter). You say your unit "identifies" it, but not how. If it shows in Device Manger > Disk Drives, have you tried updating the driver? When you left click on it and choose Properties, does it say it's working properly? Did you use the same USB cable with your brother's machine?

Again in Device Manager, are there any Yellow Warning flags for either the HDD or any of the USB connections?

Did you install any Toshiba software with the HDD? If so, did you try uninstalling it?

If you can see it in Disk Management, have you made sure it shows as formatted for your unit?

Have you tried a different external HDD?

Hi all!
I have a problem with an external usb hard disc (IOMEGA) that only is detected by my Windows 7 computer, but not on my Vista computer.
There are no problems with the USB connections on the Vista computer, apart from this hard drive problem.
In order to solve the problem I formatted the disc (FAT32) but it didn't help so now I've formatted it back to NTFS.
What could be the problem? Thanks!

ive got a seagate 80 gb hard drive which i previously put in a safecom usb caddy to use with my laptop.
it worked fine until about a week ago as whenever i plugged it in to USB laptop said device has malfunctioned.
i then bought a new caddy ( qtec) and tried connecting that to my laptop. it said device could not be installed properly.
i have a Dell inspiron 1000 laptop im not sure if it has usb 2 can someone please advise me on how to find out if it has and also how i can get my hard drive recognised by my laptop

Many thanks in advance

A:Laptop wont detect external usb HDD

A few things it could be...
1) A power issue. Are you trying this with the laptop running on the AC adapter ? ?
2) A HDD problem. Try hooking that drive up to another machine and see if it is picked up.

The issue with USB2 is not the problem as the unit was working at one time, but you can check your MBoard manual and it will tell you what type USB you have.

In Disk Management you need to right click on it and create a New Simple Volume, then format it and assign it a drive letter.

any idea?

A:Windows 7 dont detect External HD

Sounds like the external drive had died. It's possible just the enclosure electronics has died and the drive itself is still okay. You can remove it from the enclosure and install it as a 2nd hard drive in your computer, mount it in another external drive enclosure or buy a USB Universal Drive adapter and connect it to your computer that way.

I have a NewerTech USB 2.0 Universal Drive Adapter that I use for this purpose but there are many other brands available as well. Works with IDE (PATA) and SATA drives from desktop and laptop computers.

My dog walked by my chair, pulled the external drive power cord, and it fell and hit the ground. Now, all it does is make a weird ticking sound from the inside of it's shell. I go to "My Computer" and it isn't being detected anymore, and when the ticking sound stops, it still isn't detected. I need help, all my data is on that drive and tomorrow I have a huge project.

The ticking sound sounds like a tick, then a ball dropping. It doesn't last very long and it does it for a minute or so, but it's still a reason to be concerned. Once it finishes, the harddrive still can't be detected at all. The harddrive itself works fine, it powers on fine and everything.

I made sure all the three cables were connected properly (the power cable, the outlet cable leading to the power cable, and the USB cable). I left the harddrive off for over 10 minutes, and the problem still surfaces.
