T480 mouse cursor freezes sporadically when plugged into ultra docking station

Q: T480 mouse cursor freezes sporadically when plugged into ultra docking station

I have a new Thinkpad T480 docked to a new ultra docking station. I have a new Logitech M500 (corded) mouse plugged into a USB port on the docking station. As I am using the mouse, the cursor will sporadically "freeze" on screen for a couple seconds and then go back to normal. This will happen frequently as I am using the computer. Very frustrating. Substituting this mouse for a Logitech MX400 yields the same results. If I instead plug (either) mouse into the laptop directly (instead of the dock), the issue is does not occur. Any ideas as to why this is occuring and what I can do to fix it? I have already installed the latest updates from Lenovo Updater and for Logitech Setpoint as well. Thank you,CJ

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently purchased a T480 and ThinkPad Pro Docking Station (40AH).  While the laptop is docked it does not recognize the USB ports that are on the docking station but other ports (Dual DisplayPort and ethernet) work fine.  I am able to plug a device into the always on charging USB port and it will receive power, however, the laptop does not see it.  I have tried updating all drivers on the T480 and Pro Docking support pages including the firmware updates for the dock itself but nothing will get them to be recognized.  Running the USB firmware for the docking station repeatedly says no devices found and goes no further than that. Already have tried replacing the docking station through Lenovo Support and the same issue was seen with the replacement.  Both the laptop and docking station were new out of the box when this started.  Unsure what else to try to get the USB hub inside the dock to be recognized.

I'm considering buying a docking station to go with my T480 but I'm not certain what solution is best for me.I want to connect two monitors, one runs [email protected] (VGA or DVI) and the other [email protected] (VGA or HDMI). Initially I was considering the 'ThinkPad USB-C-dockingstation (40A90090EU)' and use the VGA plus one of the DP ports with an adapter. However, when I was reading the display configuration options for this dock I came to the conclusion that this does not seem to be possible. (https://support.lenovo.com/nl/en/solutions/pd029622#USB-C%20dock) Browsing through the forum the second best option appears to be the 'ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock (40AC, 40AC0135XX)'. The advantage is that it supports higher resolutions and direct HDMI connectivity. What I read from the display configuration options my configuration should not be an issue. (https://support.lenovo.com/nl/en/solutions/pd029622#thunderbolt)However, I cannot confirm that this dock is compatible with a T480. I think it should be as the T480 manual lists one of the USB-C connectors on the left as Thunderbolt-3 compatible. Does anyone have experience with this combination of hardware or otherwise can someone confirm this solution is going to work? The docks are just to expensive for just giving it a try in my opinion.

Hey all,?I just grabbed a new ultra docking station for my X1C6 - and want to know if anyone's managed to get two 4K external monitors running at 60hz? (with lid closed).?I've hooked up two 4K dells to it via mDP, but can only get one of them at 60hz, while the other seems stuck at 30hz. Looking up the docking station here seems to imply that it CAN'T run two 4K displays at 60hz. Am I reading that right?https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd029622#Ultra%20Docking?If so, this is somewhat disappointing - getting a brand new machine and dock only to discover that it can't even run two displays at full refresh and resolution. I wonder if a thunderbolt adapter for one of the monitors might help??Thanks.

HiI have a docking station pro and a T480s with windows 10.Probably since the last firmware update for the T480s (but this might not be related), my external monitor (display port) isn't recognized anymore (I have a Samsung 28 Zoll 4k monitor). I can only connect using the HDMI port from my T480s to connect.Any idea how to solve this issue? I updated everything today (Lenovo, Windows as well as drivers/firmware for docking station) but this didn't resolve the issue. CHeersRenger

I don't know which notebook model you have, but I'm finding random posts online about HP notebooks only being able to drive one analog monitor at a time, so you may be out of luck there. That docking station firmware update is for Displayport hub built into the docking station.  It can only be updated if you're connected to at least one monitor using displayport.  And it has nothing to do with analog port anyway, so it won't help you even if you could update the firmware.

I have a new LG ultra wide monitor that has support for HDMI and DisplayPort that I cannot seem to get working.  I have tried connecting the displayport cable to the dock and montior and I do not get a signal at all.  I have also tried the HDMI connection but I cannot get the resolution to the recommended 2560 x1080. Any direction would be very helpful/.

A:Dell XPS with Docking Station and LG Ultra Wide Monitor...

DisplayLink can support that resolution, but the D1000 is a very old dock that uses a very old DisplayLink chipset, and that particular chipset probably doesn't.  However, even with a newer version of DisplayLink such as would be found in the D6000 dock, DisplayLink would give you an inferior experience at that resolution anyway if you ever did things like gaming or full-screen video.  You really want your display to be directly controlled by the GPU.  So, considering that you have a 9550 that has a Thunderbolt 3 port, you have two options:
- Buy a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter, which would tap into the native GPU DisplayPort output wired to that port.
- If you want to have everything connected to a dock, buy either a WD15 or TB16 dock.  Either one would allow the attached display(s) to be driven directly by your GPU rather than through DisplayLink, and unlike your D1000, these docks can additionally charge your system via their USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 cable, so you'd have a true single-cable solution.  The WD15 allows a single display of that resolution (or dual 1080p), and the TB16 allows up to dual 4K displays or three 2560x1600 displays.  Since you have an XPS 15 9550, with the WD15 you'd need the 180W adapter version and with the TB16 you'd need the 240W adapter version.

I have a ThinkPad X240 laptop with Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 installed. I plugged in my docking station after not using it because of audio problems with it.  I believed the audio problems had been fixed on my laptop so plugged in the docking station and  now no audio.

A:No audio after docking station is plugged in

In Windows 7 I had this same problem when I first connected my laptop to my dock. I had to right click on the small speaker icon down by the clock and choose playback devices. There was a playback device 'Speakers / HP' that I right clicked and chose to set as default. Now the audio out jack on the docking station works. It might be necessary to make another manual change after undocking to get the headphone jack on the laptop to work again, but I haven't tested yet, so it might just work... Good luck.

Hi. I am not a computer tech, so pardon my lack of pc language. I have a Dell Studio, running Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit OS). I have a docking station that I plug into with a monitor, keyboard, etc. For the past few months, I have not used the docking station, but this past weekend, I plugged my laptop into the docking station. I got a request for some sort of update (sorry I don't remember what for, but think it had something to do with video/monitor maybe). I went through the motions, and I think the update failed to install. I rebooted the system, and it runs fine. The only problem I encounter is when I play Runescape online, my laptop provides no warnings, and it just shuts itself off after about 15 minutes of play time. I have tried using different internet browsers (Firefox and Google Chrome) and that does not seem to help. I unplugged the laptop, and played RS and I had no problems, so I feel that the issue is with the docking station or monitor. I have no idea how to proceed in attempting to fix this issue. Please help.

I'm experiencing an issue with intermittent shutdowns on my new T580 (20L9) with the Ultra Docking Station (40AJ). The issue appears to derive from the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework driver, as I typically see a corresponding error (DPTF Event ID 256 - Unhandled Exception) in Event Viewer, the details for which I'm including below. I'm running Windows 10 x64 1803 (Build 17134.81). A:Random sleeps on T580 w/ Ultra Docking Station - Intel Thermal Framework issue

Did you ever get this resolved?  I have a user with the exact same symptoms, but we haven't done a lot of testing off the dock yet.  We've updated to the latest Intel Thermal Framework drivers from Lenovo (Just came out on 6/8) but that didn't help.  Updated to the latest drivers from Intel, no better.  Tried dock firmware, nothing.  Lenovo came out and replaced the system board - no better.  We push a clean corporate image to ALL machines, include a few hundred Thinkpads we have out there, and this is the only one exhibiting this behavior (Also the only T580 we have out there so far, everything else is T480.)  Lenovo wants their image back on it before we do anything else, which is tough because the user is a few hundred miles away.

Hi,I procured a Lenovo Yoga 370 about 6 months ago. Aside from some of the lenovo software randomly crashing on me due to whatever bugs exist in the s/w, it's been working pretty well... until recently. About two months ago, I bought a Type 40AC docking station, which comes with a large power adapter. I was able to use both of those successfully for a month+. About three weeks ago, the power started trickle discharging, even while plugged into the docking station. The battery discharges at a rate of about 8% per hour. When the problem started, the laptop would also avoid charging while plugged directly into the wall (no docking station). However, by disconnecting the internal and bios batteries and running the static discharge sequence (which I had learned about because my previous lenovo laptop also had a power issue :/), I was able to at least get the laptop to charge when plugged in directly to the wall. I've called lenovo tech support 3-4 times about this issue. To their credit, as part of the troubleshooting process, they've replaced the motherboard, replaced the battery, replaced the docking station, ushered me to install the latest power management drive (which I did), flash my motherboard bios (which I did but was silly, because it was a "new" motherboard), and flash my docking station (which I did but was silly, because it was a "new" docking station). I also tried another large power adapter that I use on a power-hungry lenovo laptop. However, the laptop i... Read more

If USB Audio is selected, that would be the audio output jack built into the dock. You need to choose the Speakers/Headphones output as the default device to get audio from the built-in speakers.

When the laptop is plugged into the docking station headphones won't work, regardless of whether I plug them into the laptop or the docking station.  This means that every time I want to make a Skype call, for example, I have to disconnect from the docking station and plug the headphones into the laptop.  Any one have any suggestions?

A:Latitude E5550 - headphones won't work when laptop is plugged into docking station

Is the headset being detected at all by the notebook when detected? Right click on the speaker icon on the task bar and choose playback devices, are the headphones listed? If they are listed click on it and then click the configure button to bring up speaker setup. Click the test button and do you get the test chimes via the headset?
If you did hear the test chimes then the headset is working fine.   Clicking cancel should return you back to sound properties. Make sure that headphone is still selected and then click the “Set Default” button. This should but the green “default” checkmark icon on the headphones now. Test to see if the headset is working correctly now.
If you continue to have problems please reply back with the model of docking station and headphones that are being used. Please also include if the headphones have an analog connection (headphone jack) or are USB. Please also include the version of Windows on the system.

Thanks

I have a Latitude E5570 laptop that was purchased in November 2016. I have been using it with an E-Port that was purchased perhaps 5 years ago with my previous laptop. The combination has been working fine until the last week or so. Several times a day, the input will freeze. Neither mouse nor keyboard respond to input. This includes the keyboard and touchpad on the laptop. If I undock the laptop and allow it to reset, then redock, everything works again. At first I thought this might be a dock hardware issue. However, after looking through the forums, I am wondering if this might be a driver issue.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Thanks,

The wireless sender attached to the laptop shows light indicator activity and the mouse lights up when manually activated, but doesn't recognize the wireless sender and shuts off.
I've tried unloading the dynadock utility program and changing control panel mouse settings. With system check the mouse seems to be recognized, but it doesn't reconnect to computer.
Any ideas ?

Hi
I got dell laitude 7270 model and recently purchased the D3100 (DisplayLink) docking station. I believe it used the USB 3.0 to connect the laptop to the dock
I got two external Dell screens (normal wide screen with max 1920x1286 resolution not 4K screen)

We experience laggy, delay when using mouse and keyboard. It does not matter if cord/cordless or plug in directly to laptop or to docking station

Using laptop by itself dont have that problem

It prove to me the limitation of USB 3.0 bandwidth create this issue

Not too sure if Dell is aware of it and make any improvement. I have chat with ProSupport but so far only recommendation is to upgrade laptop to latest firmware

Hello so my laptop (Precision 1350 Workstation) with windows 7 which i bought in September 2016 stopped charging after I used it with my docking station . It worked for a week or two prior to this and then I started getting a notification every time I put the laptop on the docking station that said "ac power adapter not recognized , use adapter of 65 watts or above" but the adapter was 130 watts. Even when the laptop was taken off the docking station and the ac adapter was just plugged into the wall it still won't charge at all. I made sure the bios was updated 1.11.4 and even checked for driver to update and ran the online diagnostics there was no problems but it still won't charge. A tech came out last Wednesday and replaced the motherboard and this fixed the problem for about a day but then when I put it back on the docking station the same problem occurred and it still won't charge. I even tried it on a different docking station but the same make and model as mine and the problem persists. Does anyone know what is wrong? The phone tecnicians and the technicians don't seem to know what to do

Hi Guys, so I've just finished a HTPC build and using HippoRemote on the iPhone to control Windows. Works great if I have a mouse plugged in but as soon as I remove the mouse the cursor hides itself. I can still click on things etc but it makes it pretty hard to do without the cursor being visible.

Is there a way to force Windows 8 to always show the cursor? I'm guessing it disables the cursor if no mouse is plugged in so one option is to buy a wireless mouse dongle and plug that in to trick Windows into thinking I am using a mouse, but I'd rather not if I don't have to.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi!
I have a Latitude E7740 that runs Ubuntu Xenial (16.04). I dock it to a "Dell EURO2 Advanced E-port II" docking station.
If I boot it in the docking station, everything works fine, and I find all my two DVI-connected monitors.
However, if I undock, then put it into the dock again while running, it fails to enable the screens. I'm using a script called autorandr for switching between display modes - it uses xrandr. It tries to run:
xrandr --output DP1-1 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 0x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal --output DP1-2 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 1920x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal
But the X server responds with:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)  Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)  Minor opcode of failed request: 21 (RRSetCrtcConfig)  Serial number of failed request: 48  Current serial number in output stream: 48
Running this exact command after booting in the dock is doing the right thing, but after undocking then docking, it doesn't work.
Any ideas here? I have updated to the latest BIOS version.
Problem also reported in launchpad with lot's of debug info, here:
bugs.launchpad.net/.../1585884
Autorandr script is here: github.com/.../

Hello -  My x220 does not lock into  Mini Docking Station Series 3 that I bough recently. The rubber pads on the battery seem to be preventing the laptop from being docked. (Not sure if I am doing something wrong instead.) Also I am trying to set up a multi monitor display ( Dell U2415). Will appreciate some inputs on how I should resolve both the issues or a link if that has been covered before .

Does a docking station charge a laptop without the docking system itself being plugged in?

A:Does a docking station charge a laptop without the docking s...

Hi, What is your laptop ? Does it have docking port and use a PROPER docking station ?  If YES for both then yes, docking station will changer the battery on laptop, Normal USB port replicators (vendors also call them as docking startions) won't charge battery on laptop. Regards.

Hello all, I'm looking to get a docking station for my T480. I'm running Debian Gnu/Linux. After looking around a bit I have some questions before I can make up my mind: Apart from the obvious differences (type and number of ports) and the physical difference, what are the differences between the mechanical docking stations and the Thunderbolt 3 docks? Are there functional and/or performance differences? Or are they kind of equivalent? Also, I've seen some complaints about the method of connecting the laptop to the docking station - people say the have problems to physicaly connect, that the connection is not stable and that the connector is not durable. Could people here give some advice on that? Basically, my needs are simple - I need a docking solution that will work with T480 and Debian, be durable and stable. I don't need too many ports, so if getting a mechanical dock, I was thinking of either the pro or the ultra version. I would appreciate if you could share your thoughts on these issues. Thanks, Amit

A:Recommended docking solution for T480?

I recently went through this and settled on this solution: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/Working-T470-USB-C-Dock-Ethernet-HDMI-US... It only has one video output (HDMI) and 2 USB ports, but daisy chaining USB buses works great, the Gigabit ethernet works great, and for $20 I don't think it can be beat! For me (used to $200 docks that have power flickering, etc) this is a great solution. We have 2 laptops - now we stack them on top of each other and simply move the USB-C between them to switch computers (each with its own high wattage power brick for fast charging). Much better than physically removing them from the mechanical dock!

My mouse cursor will randomly freeze or disappear, yet it remains active. I can still use it by feel. If I turn mouse trails on a duplicate mouse shows up that works and the frozen one remains, although its not completely frozen as it will still change into other cursors ie the hourglass. Eventually mouse trails turn off all on its own and im left with no cursor again. I've updated drivers and checked all the settings and am left with no solution. Any help would be very appreciated.

Im playing Oblivion and for some reason my mouse cursor will freeze every 10 seconds or so while the game continues and then will unfreeze... This is very frustrating and makes me not want to play... Is their any way to fix this problem? I ran disk defragment, I ran disk clean up. I checked my mouses drivers they are up to date... I have no idea why its doing this except maybe some mods I downloaded is making this happen, if so is their any way to fix this without deactivating my mods or re installing the game?

Hi everyone,
My mouse cursor freezes on the screen everyonce in a while .After I wait about 10 seconds I can move it.
I have a HP7920 and my os is Windows ME.

A:mouse cursor freezes

This is usually indicitave that your computer is busy processing something else at the time (another program)...or that your system resources are low...

To find out if either of these are the case...
1.) Reboot your computer...
2.) Right click on My Computer...
3.) Select properties...
4.) Select Performance...

If your performance is more than 85%...your computer should typically be fine. (Be aware that opening more programs throughout the day can lower this number...at that point...it should always be kept above 70%...if it's not...you should look into adding more RAM.
If your performance is less than 85% on boot...try this...

1.) Start
2.) Run
3.) Msconfig
4.) Startup...(the top right option usually...)

You're going to notice that a number of these are checked...Most of them shouldn't be...and others you might want to keep...Virtually every program puts itself here after installation, slowing your computer. Monitor this frequently...

I hope that these simple solutions help...

- David
