T480 mouse cursor freezes sporadically when plugged into ultra docking station

Q: T480 mouse cursor freezes sporadically when plugged into ultra docking station

I have a new Thinkpad T480 docked to a new ultra docking station. I have a new Logitech M500 (corded) mouse plugged into a USB port on the docking station. As I am using the mouse, the cursor will sporadically "freeze" on screen for a couple seconds and then go back to normal. This will happen frequently as I am using the computer. Very frustrating. Substituting this mouse for a Logitech MX400 yields the same results. If I instead plug (either) mouse into the laptop directly (instead of the dock), the issue is does not occur. Any ideas as to why this is occuring and what I can do to fix it? I have already installed the latest updates from Lenovo Updater and for Logitech Setpoint as well. Thank you,CJ

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

According to https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/docksSearch/ the Lenovo T480 20L6 laptop is compatible with the ThinkPad Ultra Docking Station. However the docking station uses an entirely different power supply than the laptop (the old blocky rectangular one vs the newer mini rounded rectangle). The laptop itself fits on the docking station, but does not charge despite the docking station being plugged in. There are two connector slots on the dock that appear to be for the newer power supply, however neither of those provide power either. Is the docking station incorrectly listed as compatible when it really isn't, is there a hardware malfunction, or something else entirely?

We have two laptops T470 & T480 with docking stations. Both run Ubuntu 18.Everything is working ok if the laptop starts while already in the docking station. But, if I'm trying to dock it while running or while sleeping it never recovers for that the screen freezes.Only restart will be make it run again. BTW, many times I see two strange things:1. Undocking releases it, but only as long as it's not docked.2. When the screen freezes the only thing the sill work is the mouse which I can move around but I can't really use for anything else.

I work in the IT dept in my company and I have over 20 T480 laptops and the docking stations that go with these laptops. My questions: Everytime someone removes their ( not all 20 poeple) laptop from the docking station and then puts it back on the docking station and moves the lever to attach the docking station the monitors do not work. it takes several time opening and closing the lever for the monitors to work. Other times I must go into the display settings and turn on the multipule display settings to extend the display to get the monitors to work.  Other times the monitors come on for a briefly 40 seconds or so and then the monitors go off. no displayI have completed all lenovo updates, I have completed all windows updates and still the same thing ..this is getting very frustrating.I hope someone has a solution for this. I recently purchased a T480 and ThinkPad Pro Docking Station (40AH).  While the laptop is docked it does not recognize the USB ports that are on the docking station but other ports (Dual DisplayPort and ethernet) work fine.  I am able to plug a device into the always on charging USB port and it will receive power, however, the laptop does not see it.  I have tried updating all drivers on the T480 and Pro Docking support pages including the firmware updates for the dock itself but nothing will get them to be recognized.  Running the USB firmware for the docking station repeatedly says no devices found and goes no further than that. Already have tried replacing the docking station through Lenovo Support and the same issue was seen with the replacement.  Both the laptop and docking station were new out of the box when this started.  Unsure what else to try to get the USB hub inside the dock to be recognized.

It doesn't detect the other two. Also, in the device manager I see the "ucm-ucsi acpi" device showing "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". Dear all, I have T480 which used to work fine with ThinkPad Pro Docking Station. About a month ago, after connecting laptop to the dock I could not get it to display video on external monitor. I managed to fix the issue by pulling the power out of dock, waiting for five mins and then putting it back in. It was fine for some time, but today I put my laptop in the dock and it won't display video on external monitor, power trick not working anymore. If i open the lid, while laptop is in dock, screen constantly flickers, laptop making USB connection|disconnection sound, mouse cursor (mouse connected to dock) disapperar and appears - so it does not look healhty. I thought about updating firmware on the dock, ut considering abovementioned sympomts I am afraid that dock does not have stable connection with laptop and updating firmware in this conditions may make things worse. Is there anything else I can try other than throwing dock out of the window? Thanks.

Hey all,?I just grabbed a new ultra docking station for my X1C6 - and want to know if anyone's managed to get two 4K external monitors running at 60hz? (with lid closed).?I've hooked up two 4K dells to it via mDP, but can only get one of them at 60hz, while the other seems stuck at 30hz. Looking up the docking station here seems to imply that it CAN'T run two 4K displays at 60hz. Am I reading that right?https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd029622#Ultra%20Docking?If so, this is somewhat disappointing - getting a brand new machine and dock only to discover that it can't even run two displays at full refresh and resolution. I wonder if a thunderbolt adapter for one of the monitors might help??Thanks.

Hullo!I have a user whose laptop was working fine on his docking station until late last week.  Now, it will not see additional displays when docked, nor will it charge.  Network functionality, keyboard/mouse, and power still passes to the laptop through the docking station.  Very odd.I tried it on a few other docking stations, with the same results.  I believe it's an issue with the laptop itself, perhaps. Thanks!

I'm considering buying a docking station to go with my T480 but I'm not certain what solution is best for me.I want to connect two monitors, one runs [email protected] (VGA or DVI) and the other [email protected] (VGA or HDMI). Initially I was considering the 'ThinkPad USB-C-dockingstation (40A90090EU)' and use the VGA plus one of the DP ports with an adapter. However, when I was reading the display configuration options for this dock I came to the conclusion that this does not seem to be possible. (https://support.lenovo.com/nl/en/solutions/pd029622#USB-C%20dock) Browsing through the forum the second best option appears to be the 'ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock (40AC, 40AC0135XX)'. The advantage is that it supports higher resolutions and direct HDMI connectivity. What I read from the display configuration options my configuration should not be an issue. (https://support.lenovo.com/nl/en/solutions/pd029622#thunderbolt)However, I cannot confirm that this dock is compatible with a T480. I think it should be as the T480 manual lists one of the USB-C connectors on the left as Thunderbolt-3 compatible. Does anyone have experience with this combination of hardware or otherwise can someone confirm this solution is going to work? The docks are just to expensive for just giving it a try in my opinion.

I don't know which notebook model you have, but I'm finding random posts online about HP notebooks only being able to drive one analog monitor at a time, so you may be out of luck there. That docking station firmware update is for Displayport hub built into the docking station.  It can only be updated if you're connected to at least one monitor using displayport.  And it has nothing to do with analog port anyway, so it won't help you even if you could update the firmware.

I have a new LG ultra wide monitor that has support for HDMI and DisplayPort that I cannot seem to get working.  I have tried connecting the displayport cable to the dock and montior and I do not get a signal at all.  I have also tried the HDMI connection but I cannot get the resolution to the recommended 2560 x1080. Any direction would be very helpful/.

A:Dell XPS with Docking Station and LG Ultra Wide Monitor...

DisplayLink can support that resolution, but the D1000 is a very old dock that uses a very old DisplayLink chipset, and that particular chipset probably doesn't.  However, even with a newer version of DisplayLink such as would be found in the D6000 dock, DisplayLink would give you an inferior experience at that resolution anyway if you ever did things like gaming or full-screen video.  You really want your display to be directly controlled by the GPU.  So, considering that you have a 9550 that has a Thunderbolt 3 port, you have two options:
- Buy a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter, which would tap into the native GPU DisplayPort output wired to that port.
- If you want to have everything connected to a dock, buy either a WD15 or TB16 dock.  Either one would allow the attached display(s) to be driven directly by your GPU rather than through DisplayLink, and unlike your D1000, these docks can additionally charge your system via their USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 cable, so you'd have a true single-cable solution.  The WD15 allows a single display of that resolution (or dual 1080p), and the TB16 allows up to dual 4K displays or three 2560x1600 displays.  Since you have an XPS 15 9550, with the WD15 you'd need the 180W adapter version and with the TB16 you'd need the 240W adapter version.

Hey Lenovo Team, I have a T580 laptop connected to a Lenovo ThinkPad Ultra Pro docking station. There are two monitors connected via Displayport and a third (which is actually a projector) via HDMI. I read that if you were to use three external monitors on a docking station, that you need to get an Ultra Pro Docking station, but I didn't know if that meant three not including the external display. As of now, I can't get the extended desktop to display on the projector, unless one of the other monitors or the built-in monitor on the laptop gets disabled. On the Intel Display software, I am only given three monitors that I can configure, even though there are FOUR on the pull down list. In the Windows Screen Resolution settings, you can see there are four monitors detected, but the fourth one, you can't do anything with and it says it's not active. The graphics drivers software, BIOS, and Ultra Pro Docking station firmware are all up-to-date. I tried configuring the other monitors' resolutions as requested on the support site for resolutions/refresh rates supported (they are all 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz) and yet I still can't get the fourth monitor to work. I'm not sure if there's a BIOS setting that needs changing or what I need to do to get all the monitors to work or if, in fact, you can't get the three external monitors plus the internal laptop monitor to work.Could someone provide some assistance or suggestions to get the monitors working? That would be appreciated!

Hey all, I cannot hook up my Laptop to the aforementioned docking station without experiencing one or more of the following issues right upon booting up the system: 1.) Video signal does not seem to go through to monitors (black screen).2.) USB periphery (keyboard and/or mouse) is not recognised / usable.3.) Short periods of black screen while windows is running. The issues can be circumvented by either repeated hard reboots or by hooking the laptop to the docking station after the boot up process is completed. Occasional black screens will remain however. I already tried running all Lenovo Software / Firmware updates available for the laptop as well as the docking station - to no avail. Is anyone experiencing similar issues or has anyone figured out a solution yet? Cheers

A:No audio after docking station is plugged in

In Windows 7 I had this same problem when I first connected my laptop to my dock. I had to right click on the small speaker icon down by the clock and choose playback devices. There was a playback device 'Speakers / HP' that I right clicked and chose to set as default. Now the audio out jack on the docking station works. It might be necessary to make another manual change after undocking to get the headphone jack on the laptop to work again, but I haven't tested yet, so it might just work... Good luck.

I got a request for some sort of update (sorry I don't remember what for, but think it had something to do with video/monitor maybe). I went through the motions, and I think the update failed to install. I rebooted the system, and it runs fine. The only problem I encounter is when I play Runescape online, my laptop provides no warnings, and it just shuts itself off after about 15 minutes of play time. I have tried using different internet browsers (Firefox and Google Chrome) and that does not seem to help. I unplugged the laptop, and played RS and I had no problems, so I feel that the issue is with the docking station or monitor. I have no idea how to proceed in attempting to fix this issue. Please help.
