I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There is a lot of confusing information about updating my HP Pavilion 17-g134ds WLAN Wifi Card. Looking at the manual it shows my choice of upgrade since this is an AMD computer and no Intel is inside is; Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 M.2 Combo Adapter 792608-005 First I want to know if this will give me a 5MHz signal. Next I need to know if I should concentrate on the HP number 792608-005 when purchasing the WiFi card because there is a different Broadcom numbers associated with the HP number. There is BCM943142YHN - 792608-005. If I search for the BCM43142 then I get a different HP number - 753076-001. I see that there is a physical difference between the two cards. The Broadcom BCM43142 has 2 connector legs and the HP number 79608-005 has 3 connector legs. I have not had the balls to open the computer yet so I do not know what the connector will look like. On this laptop they have made it super difficult to make upgrades and the whole back has to come off and the MB has to be removed to even up grade the RAM. Does anyone know what the WiFi card configuration will look like for the 17-g134ds? Does anyone know if there will be two antennas when I open this up because there is no bluetooth at this time. I assume one antenna is for bluetooth and one is for WiFi. Of course I could be wrong, I am just guessing. Any help would be appreciated. ... Read more
Hi: The Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 M.2 Combo Adapter is only a single band wlan card -- 2.4 GHz band only. Any time you see a wireless N card with a suffix ending in b/g/n, that means it is a single band (2.4 Ghz) card. Dual band wireless N cards have suffixes that end in a/b/g/n or a/g/n. (the 'a' denotes the 5.0 GHz wlreless frequency). You are going to have to open up the PC and check to see: 1. What the form factor of the current wlan card is (HMC or M.2). 2. Whether or not there are two antennas present. On dual band cards, you need two antennas for both frequencies to get the best reception for both the wireless and bluetooth. If your PC's current wlan card is the HMC form factor, then you can get this Broadcom dual band AC card. I have a Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 wireless card on my HP Pavilion dv6-7101tx running windows 10 64-bit.(http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03498484)The card is not working properly now, low range and it gets limited after some time and crashes and I have to restart the laptop to get it fixed. Hello, I want to upgrade my current wifi card, Ralink 3290. I can't seem to get it to work with Linux. Tried with a wifi card from another laptop and everything worked fine. I faced the same problem in Win 7. I can get the Intel 6200 IEEE 802.11n relatively cheaply but I have seen posts of compatibility issues of wifi cards with laptops. So wanted to confirm whether it will work on my system before buying. Thanks and Regards

I want to upgrade the Wifi Card from the currently disappointing Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi Adapter to the Intel 6230 Wireless N WiFi Bluetooth BT 3.0 Half Size PCI-E Card Dual Band 2.4/5.0 GHz 802.11a/b/g/n. I have heard much about the notrorious 'whitelist'. I have found some documentation: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04438537 but none of the listed compatible cards have 5ghz, bluetooth and ubuntu support. Would this upgrade be possible? SOLUTION:The wifi worked and both antennas were present. The bluetooth, however, did not work until I did the following: I followed the instructions on post# #50 here https://communities.intel.com/thread/31247?start=45&tstart=0 which involved taping pin 51 (the right most pin with the card with antenea ports face up ) and it worked a treat. Apparently this is also possible with software in the HP Connection Manager but apparently it is not supported on windows 10. No driver installs were needed.
Hi: HP removed the BIOS whitelists from their notebooks around 18-24 months ago, so the Intel 6230 card should work just fine. What may be a bigger issue as that many notebooks with the Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi Adapter only have 1 antenna connected to the card, instead of the normal two. I can't tell you which models do, and which ones don't, and the service manual will normally show pictures in the wireless card removal and replacement section of the card always having 2 antennas connected to it. You would have to be willing and able to take the whole notebook apart including the display panel area, to install a second antenna (should one be required). A dual band card won't work right with only one antenna connected to it.Read other 10 answers

Ok so i have a shot in the dark question, I am not sure on what parts are avalable for this laptop. I just picked this up on a trade and so far has been a pretty decent little machine. It has stock 2.4ghz wifi, which i know is pretty standard. My question is, is there a different internal wifi card i can replace the stock on with that will give me access to both 2.4 ghz and 5.0 ghz. I have been considering going the usb adapter route for both wifi bands but would like to keep some usb ports avalable without needing to get a small hub. Any info would be Appreciated! Thanks

I have a laptop INSPIRON E1705 with a WLAN card (p/n DW 1390) installed. I would like to replace it with a WiFi/Bluetooth combo card so I can have Bluetooth capability. What is the recommended card to buy that is compatible with Windows 10?
Given that there will be no antenna inside the system for bluetooth, you're better off with one of these:
I have recently bought a new pci wifi lan card (Ralink rt61 turbo) and have plugged in and installed drivers. Initially the drivers the company I bought it from told me to install didn't work, but after some googling found the correct drivers and downloaded from Ralinks website. However these didn't work either.
When using the Ralink wireless utility it says that the card is disconnected, however in device manage it is both connect and the correct drivers installed and everything is perfectly fine.
I ignored the wireless utility and hoped that windows 7 would still be able to use the wireless card as past experiences have shown to be true. This case however I get nothing. Windows 7 says that the wireless card is experiencing problems, it doesn't show any of the routers that should be shown.
I have been looking around a lot and there have been several drivers that should have worked and they haven't.
I would have thought that the antenna is broken or the card doesn't work however when I use it with ubuntu instead of windows 7 it works perfectly fine without any hassle, so the card is definitely working.
Any advice that anyone can give on how to resolve this would be very welcome.
Have a look at this thread.

So, what i'm trying to do is create a wifi hotspot using my computer. In other words, turning my computer into a router. I'm wanting to do this so i can use my ipod at home instead of only when i'm around other wifi hotspots.
My computer is running off of a wired router, so that i can play online on my PS3 as well. I was told wifi doesn't work well with Ps3's normally so i just bought a wired router. So, the mainline internet cord is plugged into a wired router and then another line runs into my computer.
For some reason, after i make an adhoc connection, the computer is not sending the required information to the iPod so that it connects to the internet.
I've tried entering in the information into the Static tab in my ipod as well, and still only get Local Connection instead of Local and Internet.
This is what my connection looks like through the router using ipconfig /all:

Welcome to Vista Forums!
Unfortunately, it isn't as simple as that. You are connected to the router fine with your computer, but that tells us nothing about the ipod because wireless is off (but that's not the whole story either - you need something extra to do what you want). The following article should tell you what you need and how to do it: How to Connect iPod Touch to Windows 7 Ad-hoc Wireless Network. Although it says Windows 7, there are procedures for Vista as well (and the software will work with Vista).
I hope this helps.

I have just replaced my WiFi card from (BCM943228HMB) to BCM94352HMB. Before replacing my WiFi card i done the following:
1. Made computer boot in safe mode with networking.
After that i replaced the card, then booted into windows 10 (safe mode with networking) and checked device manager. Everything was OK (See attached picture). I then tried to turn on WiFi, but it does not turn on. Any help is appreciated.

Why are you booting into safe mode? I would connect a network cable to the wired network port, if possible for you. In regular windows, not safe mode, right click on the 802.11ac network controller and uninstall. Right click on the top device manager entry for the computer itself and select scan for new hardware.Read other 12 answers

do you mean a router
or as part of the laptop spec ?
what router do you have and does it work in dual band simultaneously
the advantage of the 5ghz signal is if you are in a crowded 2.4ghz environment then 5ghz helps avoid interference - also the coverage is wider - although the 5ghz router i have linksys - does not seem to be
if your current router only works in 2.4ghz , then no advantage in the short term
some routers are advertised as dual band - but you have to choose between 2.4 or 5 ghz and so ALL devices will need to support 5ghz

Hi: That is a somewhat common issue with the dv2000/dv600 and dv9000 model series. The motherboard overheats and cuts off power to the mini-PCIe slot that powers your wireless card, or the heat generated by the motherboard burns out the wireless card's network chip. The least costly solution that is guaranteed to work (as long as your USB ports work), is to purchase an external usb wireless adapter. You can try another wireless card by removing yours, getting the part number from it and going on eBay and finding a cheap but tested and working replacement by doing your search by the part number. You should be able to get a used wireless card for $10 or less. However, you need to be prepared to accept the worst...that it is a bad motherboard. PaulRead other 7 answers

I know it's not an issue with the wifi because everything else can pick it up. I can connect when I'm connected to an Ethernet cable however I've moved my laptop away from the connection point.please help me with what's been happening. Thank you.Read other answers

Hi, recently bought a second hand pavilion dm 1, everything working fine - is running on windows 10. Recently moved flat (now living in Paris, laptop bought in England although I don't think this would affect my problem though I am completely computer illiterate).Trying to get on to the wifi network in the new flat and the computer just says no wifi networks found. I've tried everything simple like turning the wifi on and off both on the computer and at the box, my phone connects just fine so I know there's no issue with the actual wifi.Have tried to find a solution on here but none seem to be for windows 10, and I'm not sure what to do.Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
As a side note - option for 32 and 64 bit windows 10, no idea which it is, or if that would be relevantRead other 1 answers

I recently purchased a HP Pavilion x2 - 12-b003tu with windows 10 (64 bit). From the very first day, wifi of my laptop is not working properly. At the same network, my phone connects at full speed while my laptop works very poorly. My wifi connection is very fast and works very well with my moble but with my new laptop it has not been working properly. Connection shows full strength but small files (around 10 mb) take very long time to download. Sometimes it gets connected with relatively good speed but never at full. Please provide solution. Thanking you.

The laptop is only 2 weeks old, purchased with Windows 8.1 and upgraded to Windows 10. Wifi was working perfectly until 24 hours ago when it kept losing connection and went from 0 to 1 bar. Other wifi devices had normal signal strength. I tried again today, even comparing with a near identical laptop which is on a fresh install of Windows 10 and could show more wifi services than my own one with both placed side by side within a few metres of the router. I googled around and tried setting the power plan setting to max performance on battery. It made no difference. There was no difference on battery power or plugged in. I tried HP Support Assistance to restore the driver which was V17 before and still V17 after. I then tried HP Support Assistant and Windows Update to find any updates. There were none. I then came to the support pages for the device and saw updates dated 4th October 2015. Puzzled why HP Support Assistant hadn't found them, I used the hp support pages to check for updates. This downloaded a new version of HP Support Assistant and this successfully downloaded a number of updates, include Wireless driver updates (v18). I still only have 1 bar most of the time though it goes up and down a lot, peaking at 3 on battery power. I have reset the power plan settings to default and there is no difference. Still other devices around me have more signal strength than this.&n... Read more

I got a new hp pavilion x360 laptop recently and it currently has windows 8.1. But when i turn it on, i can't connect to the wifi connection in our house. It isn't even an option. The only two choices i see are to connect and ethernet cable or set up a vpn connection. I went into the device manager to see if i could find the wifi adapter and enable it, but i dont even see it listed. The only things listed under network adapters are "bluetooth device(personal area network)", "bluetooth device(rfcomm protocol tdi) and "realtek family controller".

My Pavilion keeps loosing wifi connection, everytime I think I have resolved the issue, it will drop the wifi. The last time was Saturday and I had to do a system restore and then udate it to get it to connect. It seemed to work until this morning, I use this in my store and my router is located in my office so got it to connect when I brought it into the office. I checked to see if an update might have tried to download and couldn't , but it said update were up to date. I flushed the dns and reset my IP, now cannot connect. My question is, is this a computer problem? a HP problem? or Router problem. What's the deal???
could the browser have something to do with it?Read other 1 answers

Hi: Does the wireless card show up in the device manager at all? If not, and you are running on Windows 7, you may need to install this software and use it to turn on the wireless card...
