BSOD when using DVD drive

Q: BSOD when using DVD drive

Been having a lot of BSOD recently. Every time I try to burn a disc, I come back to it and this has happened now with two different drives (just upgraded to a blu ray burner). The computer has also been locking up often within 15 minutes of starting up and requires a hard reset. I imagine if I left it be during those times, it'd ultimately result in another BSOD.

I'll try uploading the information as per instructions, but I manually wrote down the message BSOD...

"Stop: 0x0000000F4 (0x000000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA8010F95100, 0xFFFFFA8010F958E0, 0xFFFFF800037DD460)"

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Welcome bonjourmate.

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump. You first search them manually in the default path,
C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump.

If that location is empty, Follow the tutorial:
Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Wait for the next crash, and then post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Anyway, a stop 0xF4 is storage related. For it, what you are to do initially is:
Update your SSD's Firmware (not needed if you are not using a SSD)
Re-seat the sata and power. (for all drives including Optical and internal disks)
Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.
Let us know the results.

Hiya

I've just finished building my new computer and I'm getting BSOD errors when first formatting a hard drive and secondly (after a successful format) installing a game on it.

My boot up SSD drive seems to be fine, it's just my other hard drive.

64bit Windows 7 Home premium. Full version I bought a a few days ago. The whole computer is new. If you need any further information, let me no.

8GB RAM. Intel Core i5 2500k CPU. Radeon 7850 graphics. 120ish SSD. 1Tb hard drive. Asus P8Z68-V Pro gen3 motherboard.

Edit: having just seen a notice, I've updated the post to contain two attachments. Or atleast I think I have :\

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hi all. When booting up my PC it causes a BSOD at the Window password screen displaying the error 'Driver_irql_less_or_not_equal'. The only way I can start the PC is by booting whilst hitting F8 and choosing 'Last known good configuration'.

I've tried to do a system restore twice but it caused a BSOD both times. I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

Please help?!

Since the recent November update I have been getting BSOD about once a day, with the following Notification

Driver IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL (dxgmsl.sys)

What puzzles me about this (not that I know much about it anyway) is that when I restart the computer  it is not the © Drive that is scanned / repaired but the (D) Drive, an integral SD Memory Card. The © Drive has the OS, on (D) are mainly apps / programs, documents, media. Has this anything to do with the fact that I have used the new option to move apps from © to (D)? Are not the drivers on the © Drive with the OS?

Can someone explain, after which I will see if I can follow the procedure for submitting request for BSOD help if that is the thing to do.

Here's the scenario. Last time when i use my dvd-drive, it didn't occured any BSOD, but later on i think around after few months, it start showing me BSOD sometimes when i'm using my dvd-drive.
Then i thought is the hardware failure, since the dvd-drive is quite old & slow already, somemore is an IDE drive.
Then i changed another new SATA dvd-drive, but still sometimes it still give me BSOD. I thought maybe is the power cable fault, then i switch another power cable, still the same. I can't find the root cause of this problem, please help.

Since the recent November update I have been getting BSOD once or twice a day. What follows is the on screen notification:

Driver IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL(dxgnms1.sys)

What puzzles me most (not that I know much about this anyway) is that when I restart it is not the (C) Drive which has the OS which is scanned and repaired, it is the (D) Drive with apps / programs, docs and media. This has not happened before, is it unusual? Has it anything to do with the fact that I have just made full use of the new MOVE option to transfer apps to (D)? I understand that it likely to be a driver issue and thought drivers would be on (C)?

Can someone explain this to me before I try to apply the Forum instructions for reporting BSOD?

I had 'Magicdisc' installed and it was working fine until a few days ago.I started getting blue screens due to the file 'mcdbus.sys' so i tried uninstalling 'MagicDisc' (which wasnt easy) and got rid of it using a command line to uninstall it. I wasn't sure if it uninstalled completely so I used 'CCleaner' and deleted faulty registeries. Then I installed 'Daemon Tools Lite' as I have to have a virtual drive and during installation, as soon as it said 'setting up virtual drive' my system gave a blue screen, this time due to the file 'dtsoftbus01.sys' and so I uninstalled the Daemon tools lite after logging into safe mode.

I really need a virtual drive software, but so far I've figured out that as soon as I install a program that creates virtual drive, my system starts giving blue screens. The system works fine otherwise.

When tapping a certain button upon startup (F8 i think) i would be taken to a system repair screen. This screen had several options, for example system repair, boot from back-up, and advanced options. after trying all of these options and non of them working (i had no computer backup) i decided to use the advanced options. I suspect these options were added by the man whom built the computer as the name of the advanced options was very wierd... Anyway!! It seems like a driver conflict (classpnp.sys) assuming that DV is fully compatible with XP, it is not enough to disable CIS because of the background processes.
You should restart in safe mode (f8) at boot and try to uninstall CIS.

Hi all, I've been having this weird problem and this site looked like a good place to ask about it because of the support I've seen. So wooooo first post~!
Anyway, whenever I unplug one certain flash drive (a Kingston DataTraveller SE9) my laptop bluescreens with the error "SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED". I can't figure out why for the life of me! I did, however, figure out that the flash drive is recognized as a local disk and not a removable one. This issue only applies to my laptop, that's it; the drive works perfectly fine on any other computer. I can still read and write to it no problem. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

A:Unplugging Certain USB Drive Causes BSOD

Some USB flash drives act like a hard drive which Windows lists as local disk instead of removable. You will notice that when you delete anything on the USB drive labeled local the deleted items go to the recycle bin. On a USB flash drive labeled removable the items are not sent to the recycle bin.

Download USBdeview. Run the program Highlight any listing for Kingston DataTravler and press the red X to remove. Reboot the computer and attach the Kingston again. Do you get the error?

Hi.

I've been having loads of PC problems recently and its getting me down. Just as I thought I had it stable I noticed this.

I keep getting Bugcode_USB_Driver blue screen. But it only seems to happen overnight when i'm not there to see if anything is causing it. But if its happening while the PC isn't really being used how on earth is it happening?

The only thing running is O&O Defrag. One of my external drives (1TB Seagate) is highly fragmented and it seems like it will take hours to complete, but it never manages to finish because while leaving it running I wake up to a BSOD. I manage to have it running a few hours a day but no BSOD occurs, just when I check it after a night of sleep!

Could this be the problem? My external drive is going dodgy?

I've tried uninstalling all usb drivers and changed the usb port its using. And just to eliminate things, a system overclock would not cause this right? Its not running too hot and has been stable for months before now.

This is incredibly frustrating and would like some advice and help.
Thanks

Hi all ,

Been having these random pc crashes and BSOD , These have happen after i installed a 3tb HDD. I am not too sure if its a PSU issue where as being not enough or a Motherboard issue..... the reason i say motherboard issue is because when i was installing the new 3tb hard drive i had to take out one of my Radeon 7970 cards , in doing so i think i may of pulled out the plastic pci-e port of the board as i never pushed the release lever down enough , the port did seem to go back in ok. But after doing this my problems started to happen....but only when i have both cards in cross fire , single usage is fine , no crashes , but as soon as the second is put into crossfire mode i get crashes , The event viewer gives me a bugcheck code of 278 everytime...so i really dont know weather it is a power supply problem or a motherboard ( due to my carelessness ) below are my specs and the dump zip and perfmon zip.

Hello! I've searched in here, and found some good threads on the following, but none that ended badly, as mine has! Any help?

Dual Boot Win7 x64 beta
XP x32

After installing Win7 into a new partition, the OS started up fine from the new dual boot screen, but I didn't have access to my Win XP partition from within explorer. In disk management, I was able to add a letter to my WinXP volume (I took the next available "O") and it popped up in explorer no problem. However, after restarting, Win 7 begins to load, then BSODs way too fast to think about catching with camera. I got the option to run startup repair at the restart, and I did so. The conclusion there was that I had plugged in a device during the last session that was now causing problems. That is bogus, unless that device is my newly lettered partition. I read many a thread in here about re-lettering a partition that had lost its letter in the intall (usually the other OS volume in a dual-boot environment), but didn't see those posters then have issues upon restart.

I can boot into XP, although here now NONE of my drives have letters.

Any Help? I really was diggin' my win7 time, and really enjoyed taking advantage of all my RAM and x64 versions of CS4 and CAD.

Thanks.

Is it possible to try another repair and chose a system restore to see if that gets you back in. You should get the repair option if you press F8 om the boot selection screen.

So i wanted some more space in to my C drive and I downloaded Partition Wizard. It got the job done and changed 10gb from my D drive into my C drive. After the restart i had to do, the problems started. My computer now showed my D drive as a cd driver or something and when i tried to open Steam it told me to put in the DVD or something..
I didnt know what to do so i messed around with the Windows disk management thing and changed the drives (D) letter to F just to see what would happen.. my computer froze and i got a blue screen:

And when i restart the computer i get this one first:

I cant do the check that the black screen is suggesting because it cuts to the blue screen in ~1 second.

I cant get past the blue screen, it does this and then it restarts over and over..

Hi Souzr.

Do you have access to another computer right now? If so, download Partition wizard Bootable CD (the last one in the link). Burn it in a blank CD or in a USB flash stick.

Boot into Partition Wizards GUI following this instructions. When you are on the last screen, take a camera snap of the screen and upload the snap here.

We need to see the partitions and parameters.

Also, better you perform a bootable HDD scan, as the second image says. Try Seatools for DOS. Let us know the results.

Hi.

In this order,

Remove any virtual driver software, like daemon tools,alcohol120%.....

Download http://duplexsecure.com/download/SPTDinst-v179-x86.exe run it and click uninstall to remove the sptd from your system. The minidump analysis points sptd for your computer crash\bsod.

For virtual drive software you can use the http://www.magiciso.com/tutorials/mi...c-overview.htm

You need to update these old software\drivers.

Hello,
Background info:
I was surfing (IE 11?)the web to find a free stream of an nba game, clicked a link and had several screens flash up saying stuff needed to be updated, X'ed out of two, did alt f4 on one. As i was trying to terminate the popups, screen immediately tore apart, BSOD, and the machine rebooted by itself. Upon reboot, no boot drive was found according to the black screen at start up, this occurred several times, we quickly unplugged the ethernet cable and shut the computer down and unplugged the other hard drives in the computer.
With only the dvd drive and the c boot drive plugged in, I restarted the computer and I inserted Windows 7 Ultimate disk and was unable to repair anything but did manage to restore a previous restore point from around September 13, 2013. System will boot but is acting strange and looks like its stripped. Desktop icons are gone, black wall paper and Norton is missing. I have not plugged the other hard drives back in at this time, so I don't know if documents are missing or corrupt at this point.
I did renew Norton in April 2014, so maybe that has something to with it, since the restore point is before the new version of Norton.
At this point, I'm guessing doing the restore was a mistake.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Gary

Also seems like there is no new driver available.

Hi all, I have a Dell XPS 15 (L502X) with Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) and I just recently had to replace the hard drive, it's only been a year or year and a half. The past few days I've been getting random system failures...the system just shuts off without warning. Upon booting up, Windows Problem Reporting reports a BSOD with BCCode 7a. Research confirms this is most definitely a hard drive issue, where there are bad sectors or a damaged drive.

According to HDSentinel, my HD Health is only 76%!! I'm wondering if it would be worth it to run a full surface check and full disk check with HDSentinel. It will take 12-24 hours to complete both..as I have a 1TB hard drive.. and I will lose all of my data...but it's either that or buy a new hard drive for $120.

My question is: would it be worth it to try and save the hard drive? Or, is it too far gone, with only 76% health? Also, what might cause such a drastic change in the HD Health? The laptop hasn't had any sudden shocks, hits, or anything, but all of the sudden I am getting 4-5 BSOD's per day, all 7a. S.M.A.R.T. status is OK, but obviously the drive is having issues. I ran dskchk on C:/ and it didn't help.. would SeaTools possibly be able to save it? It's a Seagate drive. I'd just like some outside opinions--I've worked on computers for years but I've never had to/wanted to save a dying hard drive. I've heard it's possible to repair damaged drives using tools ... Background... my idiot ex-bf hooked up an antique power surge protector to my Dell Studio XPS running Windows 7. The surge protector caused my computer to do a few cold shut downs and after one of these it came back with a black screen displaying this error message... Pressing F2 took me to a blue screen that appeared to have options for BIOS(I am not very educated in these things). If I hit ESC, then confirmed that I wanted to Escape by hitting F10, it would boot up normally and I could use my computer with no problems. So this has been my procedure for the last 6 months or so. Yesterday I do a warm shut down and it comes back up with the usual error message, but this time after hitting ESC and F10, it took me to a BSOD. I have a laptop, HDD is formatted into two partitions. On my non windows partition, when i do file copying over to it, or renaming a certain one file it will hang and I will get a BSOD. I can only assume that the hard drive, has some bad sectors or whatever on it, where that partition is physically.

I tried defragging that partition, it just BSOD again. Is there a way I can get the operating system to know that this area is bad and avoid using it. Better yet, shouldnt the hard drive be reporting errors to the OS so it knows?

I only know how to run a chkdisk while logged into windows through the GUI but it says the hard drive is in use so I cant, so how do I run one before booting windows. Will that fix my problem?

We have a dell Inspiron 9300. We keep getting the BSOD with the system 32 error. We don't have the OS disc, just the disc from dell. So we know we are going to have to set the computer back to factory settings. However, we want to get our pictures off of the hard drive before we do this.
We were thinking of using an enclosure to get the pictures off of the hard drive. Has anyone ever used one before? Also, how do we know what kind of hard drive we have ( PATA/EIDE..etc) to know which enclosure will work with the hard drive? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Hello again.

After I have installed a fresh Windows 7 64 Bit installation on a newly bought Crucial M4 SSD drive there are the BSOD's again.
The last time I thought the cause perhaps was, a driver mcdbus.sys installed by a video editting program. This program is now not installed at all. Or the cause was the program Migicdisk wich I had removed later. (See my previous post)
Now sometime later my harddrive crashed completely! So I bought a new hard drive an SSD as stated above and reinstalled Windows on this drive.

Does one of you know perhaps where the problem really could be found?

System specs are in my Profile.

Thanks,

I read some posts here about a similar problem but none answer my question. I was trying to partition my hard drive with disk manager in vista home premium. I partitioned 22gb and formatted it FAT32 then it started to ask me for drivers which i didn't have or know where to even get the drivers and vista wasn't able to find it, so i then restarted my computer then after i see that the partition that i made doesn't say it has been formatted it looks like it unformatted it self, I so restart again and i get the blue screen saying the error 0x0000007b. So the only way to fix it is to use the vista boot disk and use system restore then it works. Then i see the partitioned drive looks formatted and appears in My computer again and it asks me again to install drivers, like the first time i formatted it. For some reason the partitioned drive gets unformatted after i restart my computer which causes me to get a blue screen error. I hope it makes some sense. Please help!

Last week I installed my new Hitachi Deskstar 1.5TB SATA 6.0 Gb/s hard drive. Windows recognized it right away and everything went smoothly as I transferred files over. A day later I started getting generic DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD's, but they only happened right after I woke up the computer from Sleep Mode. Before I installed the HD my computer was absolutely perfect with no problems so this made me think it was a driver issue. Updated all drivers with Driver Genius, but still BSOD after waking up computer (they are random, it doesn't happen after every wake).

My motherboard has two SATA III 6.0Gb/s ports. The first is occupied by my Crucial C300 SSD booting Win7 Ultimate x64, and the other with my new Hitachi. These are controlled by a Marvell 6.0Gb/s driver. I also have two SATA 3.0gb/s devices connected: a WD Black 1TB HD and an ASUS Optical drive. I'm starting to think it has something to do with either the Marvell Controller, or how these three hard drives are configured, but honestly I have no idea at this point. I'm usually well versed when it comes to troubleshooting BSOD's or any general problem with my PC but I cannot figure this out for the life of me so I'm hoping you guys can help me out!

P.S.

Before you guys ask for a minidump file, trust me, i've tried! I don't know why, but when my PC BSOD's it won't generate a dump file. I have all the settings configured for the memory dump, but it will not produce. I opened up the computer and checked all ... Read more

I have a toshiba laptop that got a nasty virus. I ran combofix and all it found a deleted was an install file on the d drive. when that didnt change anything i ran msconfig and had it do a selective startup. i restarted it and now it wont start up. i tried starting it in safe mode and normal mode and every time it pops up with the bsod saying the hard drive is missing. wth should i do?

A:HELP!!! BSOD missing hard drive!!!

Can you see the HDD in BIOS?

Are you running XP SP3?

Running Combofix should be done under expert supervision; OS may have been damaged. Do you have your OS recovery disc?

If not and no HDD recovery partition, you'll need to contact system manufacturer -
