It seems impossible to upgrade my IE8 to IE9

Q: It seems impossible to upgrade my IE8 to IE9

Hey,

So, ever since I got the update for it in Windows Update, like a few months ago, I could never install IE9 on my computer. I have tried every possible means to install it.

-Download the modified (B00IE8/IE9) package
-Download the 32Bit (x86) Upgrade package
-Using Windows Update

And after multiple attemtps, I'm still opening IE8. Don't get me wrong, I have Google Chrome and Firefox, but I would like to have everything on this computer upgraded so I don't need to look at it in Windows Update.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Regards,
-TPS

Preferred Solution: It seems impossible to upgrade my IE8 to IE9

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I own a IBM Thinkpad 755CX (9545-HPE) and the BIOS needs to be upgraded to support Plug and Play for Win95. (I have been running Win95 but am having major grief with installing a PCMCIA MODEM and disabling the Mwave modem. MWave - gggrrrrrrrr.) I do not have a working battery for my laptop. The BIOS upgrade checks for a battery and refuses to install the bios without one (in case of power failure). I really don't want to buy a battery so I could:
1) FAKE OUT the battery check by routing power from somewhere to the battery posts. Doesn't sound nice.
2) Edit the BIOS install disk to not check for a battery. Sounds real bad.
3) Try and get the modem to work without PnP. I'm having trouble configuring everything to get a dial tone. The diagnostic software I have checks for and finds the modem just fine. But no dialtone. It seems that Mwave doesn't want to share the 'phone jack' even if the Mwave modem is disabled or removed from Device Mangler.

Suggestions (other than skip the whole idea) Please!!

A:The Impossible Bios Upgrade

What do you mean by "share the jack"?

You aren't plugging the phone line into both modems, are you?

Generally speaking, a "no dialtone" reaction means one of 3 things.

1) Modem is not compatible with your machine. Many WinModems require a Pentium 166 or faster to work correctly,, for instance.

2) Drives are not installed correctly. This sounds very likely in your case, due to the PnP problems.

3) The modem is bad. I've seens dozens of modems that diagnose fine, but can't get a dial tone. The physical jack portion of the modem won't work, even though the internal parts are ok. Any chance you can test the modem in another machine to make sure it works?

Ok folks this one is gonna be a toughy.
My brother has an ancient system. It is from 2000
I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade it, and what can be possibly upgraded for the best performance possible (if it is possible at all).
I never "built" a computer before..... but I thought this would be an interesting project

I was also wondering on monitor upgrades... hard drive upgrade... etc.
im not sure if upgrading this system is even possible. First I need to find the right parts that will work together.

my next question is that after I find all of these parts, and replace the old ones with the new ones, i want to install windows xp on the new hard drive but im worried about... Read more

HiI have bought a R15 trough Dell's shop 2/3 years ago. I've been very happy with it untill its RAM went down. It is time to refresh my laptop. So I've changed the DDR for a good one and I bought a SSD to replace the actual hard drive. As Windows gives windows 10 upgrade I went for that but it didn't work.As I want a clean install I was not frustrated, I just should reinstall Win7 on the SSD, then upgrade to Win10. As I've lost my install disk I went for solutions gived by Microsoft.Microsoft ask for the product key in order to allow Win7 download, but doesn't recognize mine as valid.Plus I've looked in my Dell's account and I can't find my laptop in my product list. It's like my computer doesn't exist for Dell or Microsot even if first thing I did when I received it was to register. How can it be ?What solution can be found ?Thanks by advance.

Over the last few days I've just been trying to work out how to upgrade, may sound stupid but I'm just not having any luck, really hope someone can help me out here because I have no idea what to do.

I have bought a Windows 8 Pro key from Microsoft, I go into Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant, I click "Install now". I get this. :
Spoiler
Okay, I try to install with USB. Doesn't work, I can boot from it, but then it tells me I have some missing drivers (doesn't say what ones) and will not continue with installation, have to go back to Windows 7.

Then I try the last option: Making a ISO file... You guessed it, doesn't work either. I get THIS error message:
Spoiler
Does anybody have any suggestions? I'm at a loss here. I've tried rebooting, re-downloading the upgrade assistant from various sites, nothing has worked so far.

For the download are you connecting by ethernet? Directly to the modem?

I just bought a R3-131T-C90X laptop and wanted to upgrade it to Windows 10. It's advertised on the box, so I didn't think it was an issue. However, it only has 32GB storage, which narrows to 20GB out of the box, with only 14GB free despite uninstalling every piece of software the thing came with. Basically, this makes it impossible to upgrade to Windows 10. No matter what I do, the upgrade tool tells me I need to have 20GB free, which simply cannot be done. It also doesn't give me the option to upgrade via external storage. Are there any solutions, or a step-by-step guide on how to get out of this? I knew going in that I'd have limited space, but I'd heard that Windows 10 manages the OS footprint better, and yet here I am unable to even get it despite there being a sticker on the box and a booklet explaining how to upgrade. I guess no one at Acer really thought this through.  EDIT: I'm also now noticing that what precious little space I have left seems to be dropping rapidly for no reason. I'm now down to 10GB free despite not doing anything besides turning it on a couple times. What is happening?

A:R3-131T: Impossible to upgrade to Windows 10

Acer recommends loading BIOS version 1.06 or later prior to upgrading to Windows 10. After upgrading BIOS, connect a USB flash drive, external hard drive, or SD card with enough free space to install the update. The drive you connect must be 8 GB or larger (16 GB is recommended). You will need to keep this drive available if you want to use the go back feature in Windows 10 to return to your original operating system. Some models like the Aspire R3-131T  do not support using an SD card to install the update. You will need to use a USB flash drive when installing the Windows 10 update on these models.

The log on screen is normal and any user can be selected to log on. But, when selcted to log on, it loads personal settings, flashes the desktop and immediately logs off and saves the settings. Hey guys it's me again with my annoying and those that seem to be impossible-to-fix-problems.

Well 3 months ago i bought an AMD 5600+ Dual Core and i had lots of problems since then, believing it was defective, i wrote to AMD support and requested an RMA. My replacement arrived today. It fixed LOTS of random crashes and my computer was able to boot up properly with both rams placed on in dual channel. I went to play on Soulstorm, it crashed, sometimes half way through a game or sometimes about 5 minutes into the game. I went on another game which is Company of Heroes, it crashed too.

The only reason i tested these 2 games was because they crashed most of the times when i had the defective processor.I thought it was the RAM but i thought it wouldn't make any sense because while waiting for my replacement to arrive, i put in my old AMD Athlon 3500+ and it worked fine with EVERY SINGLE games so it couldn't be the RAM and it can't be the replacement either. Not knowing what else to do, i took one stick of ram out, and guess what? It worked like a charm ! I really have no idea what's going on inside but if anyone had been through this or anyone who knows how to fix please help and....ermm if it works you'll be able to rest assured that a person on earth is grateful and just wants to kill you with hugs XD

Can anyone make sense of this? How did this copy come to be working on this computer?

I'm currently wanting to do a clean install but I can't because I can't workout what happened in the past

A:How is this even impossible?

Sounds like you may have an OEM System Builder versions of Windows 8. It is intended to be installed by someone or a company building a new computer that is to be resold. That particular version includes a personal use license which allows anyone to buy an OEM System Builder copy of the software and install it on a (new or old) PC that is intended for personal use. It should have come with an installation key.

I have a folder in my external terabyte that appeared some time ago. I can not delete it with any software. I tried to delete with DOS and it says all the same. The problem is that it will not let me downgrade it to a write-able format. It seems to be locked in READ ONLY status. I have attempted to take ownership of the drive and the files, but I can not get rid of it. When I first noticed it, it was random letters. When I tried to delete the file it turned into many many "Z's". When I ran the DOS delete protocol it changed into 6 "Z's"; with in that folder is a empty folder called "Update". Since then I have not been able to do anything about it. I don't know what to do. I even downloaded a program called Delete on Boot, and still no success. I have been coming here for about a year when I caught the Rogue Internet Security 2010. It was since then, 12/30/09 the day that i reformatted to yield to the virus's victory that the file first appeared in the external hard drive. I am wits end and I know someone out there can help me. Please tell me what to do. I was told that it was very complex and destructive hack file. Am I infected again?

Hi!
A few months ago (April 2000), I ENCRYPTED a *.zip-file with the PGP-freeware (hope u heard of it). I wrote down my pass-phrase and de-installed the PGP-software a few weeks later, but let the file (xxx.zip.pgp) encrypted. Now I am in urgent need of this file I encrypted with the PGP software, but I CAN NOT DECRYPT IT with the current PGP software!!!! WHY?!?! I installed PGP-freeware 6.58, which is the latest one, and made EXACTLY the same passphrase like I did, to encrypt the data, but everytime I try to double-click the "xxx.zip.pgp"-file, PGP opens up a little window, telling me that my no pass sentence or something like that could be found! And when I click on the "unknown"-line in this window, the program tries to connect to a server, but everytime I get a "Server-error"! THIS SUCKS!
How do I DECRYPT a file which has been ENCRYPTED a few months ago, when another version of PGP was used?
HELP!

Window blinds prob has it so windows can look like the mac but window blinds for some reason do not work on my comp.
Any suggestions anybody?

When i open Norton Antivirus i get a pop-up ad, the same also occurs with Internet Explorer. I am also unable to set my own home page. Hello there,
I am new here, and basicly new to learning how to fix my pc on my own. Yesterday I ended up reformatting my pc, due to some issues. The reformat went flawless, however i noobishly forgot a few things... saving all my hardwear. Anyways, I have since fixed it kinda. Had a freind help me so far but now lost on what is going on. Had to reinstall my network driver to get as far as we did, we have connection! The issue is that the internet doesnt connect still. Both connections say enabled and when you go into repair tells me:
the following steps of the repair operation failed: renewing the IP address
we have tried to go into command prompt and put in commands for release and renewal and still not working.. any suggestions ??

ps please remeber im new to this and doing it alone now. My friend has since left for his own life (hehe) might have to talk slowly on explinations for this one..

Hello, I have an application that needs port 1176 open for others to connect to me (I'm pretty sure thats how it works)

I have a D-link DI-524 and have followed the portforward website perfectly but, still no luck.
Nobody can connect to my server, my server isn't even detecting other people trying to connect to it.

I used www.canyouseeme.org and I get
Error: I could not see your service on *ip adress* on port (1176)
Reason: Connection refused

This is happened to me many times for as long as I can remember, only some times it will actually let me port forward certain things. Can anyone share some information to get me on the right track and possibly fix this problem?

Thanks.

A:Portforwarding Impossible

Do you have any firewall installed on your server? (I presumed you do) Try to open that port in your firewall.

Hello!

For about 2-3 days now, it's become impossible to load certain websites. These websites include www.mediafire.com, and there is software called "Hamachi" to simulate a virtual lan server, which also won't connect at all. Hamachi gets stuck at "Probing" and mediafire.com completely fails to load. I have used websites like isitdown to check if mediafire is down for everyone of just me, and it's just me.

I have restarted the router 4-5 times, and I've tried accessing it from all computers in our home, but none of them work.

I am using Windows 8 and am with MWEB.

Please help,
Ruben

A:Internet near impossible to use

That sounds like an ISP problem
it is quite likely blocked by your ISP
I have friends in SA who inform me that when they reach close to their monthly limits, sites like mediafire and other sharing sites get blocked
Most SA ISPs do severely limit what you can download and give what is seen in rest of the world as very low bandwith limits for a very expensive price

Check with ISP first

hi,

What do you guys suggest me?
thanks

A:impossible uninstall

Have you tried going into C:\program files\Snagit? You can delete the program directly from the program files directory or wherever it may have installed (program files is the standard). If its currently running, kill it from the cntrl-alt-del menu and delete the entire folder from programs. If you get access denied and either cant kill the process or dont know what it is, start in safe mode and delete it from the directory.

Ok If anyone can help me with this i will be impressed

I play on an online game and i was recently key logged. I injected a DLL into the game, and inside the dll there was a key logger.
Only one virus scanner can identify it and i don't have the virus scanner (CPsecure).

The keylogger is called Troj.Gamethief.w32.wow.bwa

Heres how this thing works. Basically the key logger doesnt run UNLESS i inject it into my game.exe. So its not a threat to any other passwords, just my game one. I believe it sends my account/pass when i load it.

If i removed the dll the keylogger would be removed also, but i want to use this program so im trying to avoid that. The only solution i can come up with is using a hex editor to stop the function. But i am not familiar enough with hex editors to do this.

So i guess i need someone with hex editing knowledge to help me remove this. or someone who knows a program i havnt found on google yet.

Thanks

This is going to be a long post. I'll start from the beginning.

Windows 7 (64 bit premium) came to my door today. I put it in my disc, logged on to my windows xp account. A pop up came up saying, "close any programs still on xp". So i googled how to do that, and it said to wipe my fdisk. I opened the console and did so, but that it didn't know if it was an external or internal command. So i googled another way to do it, and it get compmgmt.msc as a command to enter into my start>run thingy. I do that, and i go to disk management. Then i went to format, and hit the start button (not on the bottom of the screen, the little pop up window from format). Then it tells me i need to go to safe mode. I did, and went to the command prompt safe mode. I typed in fdisk, but got the same message as before. I hit restart, and went into regular safe mode. The other places i read about said to do it in administrator. The administrator had never been there before, and had just popped up. I hit enter on the password to see if it would go, but it wouldnt. so i hit restart, but this time windows 7 started up instead. Then i got stuck and froze my computer, so i restarted again. Then this message popped up before i get to the loading screen:

windows could not start becasue the following file is missing or corrupt: <windows root>\system\hal.dll.
please reinstall the above file.
now i've lost the windows xp disk, and many other websites have told me to just :re... Read more

A:impossible to get from windows xp to 7

You can't start setup from Windows. And you can't format the drive from which you are running Windows, any more than you can dig a hole in the ground you are standing on. You need to boot from the DVD and then remove the partitions when you have the option. After that, just follow the prompts.

There is no "fdisk" in Windows since around 10 years ago and it shouldn't be used on modern systems. Partitioning and formatting are part of setup. There are no messages from Windows 7 setup that mention fdisk, ever.

I recently had a bunch of viruses that messed up my entire computer.
I ran a bunch of spyware/malware scans and they found a bunch of things.

I ran an AVG scan, and it told me to restart so I did.
When it turned back on, nothing would load.
No start menu, no taskbar, no desktop icons, just a background.
The Task Manager says it's been disabled by the administrator.

This happens even in safe mode, and I can't get into the administrator account.

How exactly do I fix this problem? Is it even possible to fix this problem?
it's extremely frustrating.

by the way, I'm using XP professional.

Hello Deee,I see that you have an HJT log posted here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/208223/hijackthis-log-something-about-win32/ We do not allow more than one topic for the same computer and the same issue as this causes confusion, and in this case may make the disinfection process more difficult. This leaves you with a choice:1) Have this thread reopened and the HiJack This log topic deletedOR2) Keep this thread closed and wait for assistance in the HiJack This log forum. Please note that that forum is VERY busy. Please send a Private Message indicating your choice.Assuming you wish assistance in the HiJack This forum, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. I'm updating a Qosmio G50-12F PQG55E-04C02YFR
The BIOS Version is 2
Windows version : 7 Pro 64

I've replaced the 2 original 2GO RAM sticks by 2 4G0 compatible RAM sticks.

I've tried to update the BIOS from the Toshiba support site, but the only available version doesn't support my computer (message when I try to install it).

The current BIOS indicates 8GO.
CPUZ indicates only 4GO
Windows indicates 8GO installed, 4GO available.

I've already tried to put only one stick, then the other (all is normal with only one 4GO memory stick), I've checked the BIOS parameters as indicated in forums and configuration panel parameters too.

Has some one a clue?

Hey Hey - Happy Holidays all!!

Got a machine running XP Home SP1 and it started having strange IE problems, like not displaying backgrounds on some sites [they were mostly php Nuke sites]; then it started crashing all the time when going to Windows Update site. Then started crashing all the time unpredictably and couldn't find a pattern.

No virus [Norton clean], no spyware or adware [Webroot SpySweeper clean]
Tried reinstalling XP but to no avail
Tried to install SP2 in hopes that it would over write problems, BUT it WILL NOT install - - goes for a while and then just stops - - no messages, nothing, just stops install - attempted it 4 times and got a partial install is all; had to uninstall that.

Any ideas? Please!!

Thanks all and have happy, healthy holidays

Ron

A:IE impossible to solve? What else can I try?

I don't have XP so I have no first hand knowledge of it. However, you will find links to articles about failed SP2 installs in this list;http://www.scotsnewsletter.com/best_of/xpsp2links.htm

As for your original IE problem, I wonder if you can still try to 'repair' IE like you could in the older OS's?. To do it, you went to Add/Remove, selected IE to uninstall, and then were given the option to repair it.

Assuming that is still possible in XP, I am not saying it will help your problem because I just don't know.

Hello guys,
I have a very frustrating problem and i really can't imagine any way to solve it without help. The problem is quite simple to explain : I simply can't downlaod anything "big".
let's check details. I have two browsers, Ie and Firefox. I ve been using firefox for years but i recently bought a new comp, and Ie came along with vista.
Whenever i try to download a "big file" with firefox, let's say a game's patch, i recieve an error message after 2-3 minutes saying that the dowlaod will stop because the source file will not be read.
if i try with Ie after about the same amount of time i got an error message saying that the time allocated to the operation has been...

As you imagine this is already frustrating enough in itself, but today i discovered that the problem had somehow extended to streaming, i cannot load any file completely...

my config is brand new from A to Z, so i really don't know where to look for.

Any Idea ?

Thanks

A:Impossible to download anything

Does your Internet keep dropping (Are you on wireless or something?).

Your topic suggests you can't download "anything", yet below you say you have trouble downloading "anything big". I'm assuming you can download small files?

You could always try using a download manager rather than using your browser to download the files. Search the forums for a thread on download managers if you want to find out more.

Leechget is what i use at present.

I have a Speedtouch Modem and a Belkin Wireless Router. I get an average speed, although it has dropped lately.

I bought a Belkin 'N' Wireless Router+Modem. It would not make a connection to my ISP.
I have spent HOURS [Literally] on the phone with Belkin Techs and my ISP.
Changed settings - patched etc etc etc.
Belikin replaced the Router+Modem with an N+. SAME RESULT AS ABOVE.

A retailer lent me a NetGear G Router+Modem - SAME RESULT AS ABOVE.

Today a telephone engineer came and checked my line for faults. FINE. A1.

Now, my Speedtouch with Router WORKS.

So...EVERYONE says it's impossible that the others DO NOT work.

I'm told that if you simply plug a modem into any phone point with ASDL- you will get an ASDL light. I don't with the new stuff.

My friend does.

What I'm experiencing is impossible - but is it ?

The men in white coats will soon be here. Help.

Hi there. I somehow manged to contract a Trojan Virus that Ad-Aware identified as Virtumonde on my laptop and cannot figure out how to get rid of it. i realized that my Java was out of date so i removed the JS2E version, i tried to install the newest version but i keep getting an error which i believe comes from the Trojan, not windows itself. I tried Vundofix, ComboFix, and SuperAntiSpyware, but the computer would not let me and i got the same error window each time:

The computer did, however let me install and run HijackThis, so here is my log. Thanks in advance for any help, i really appreciate it. I am an engineering student and usually i can figure out how to repair these things, but this one has me stumped!
