I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello @JohnFox94, We are sorry as there is no master password or generator for EliteBooks or ProBooks. HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again !! **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. My Microsoft Lumia 532 Dual Sim mobile when connected to my ProBook via a USB 2 port (also USB 3) is not seen by Windows 10 as a device. My Windows has all known updates. My Lumia 532 runs Windows Phone 8.1 Update. I urgently need to back up the contacts on my mobile (possibly using PhoneCopy) . Could this be caused by a USB driver for the ProBook not being up to date? If so where do I go to, to download the latest driver? Or are there special settings either on the Lumia or in Windows which enable USB commincation? Ideas desperately needed please! Many thanks...

@cmart87 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Ordinarily, I would recommend using HP Recovery Media to restore your PC to its original condition. That would erase the entire drive, format the drive, and install the OS, the drivers, and the HP utilities.Unfortunately, there is no HP Recovery Media linked to the HP Product Page for your PC. This could be an oversight by HP, or it could also mean that HP no longer stocks the recovery media for your PC. They no long stock recovery media for the older PCs.You can try contacting HP Customer Support directly, using the links below, to see if you can order if from them:If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while! If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836If HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, a couple of other sites you should check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/Before using the media, read through this: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00006110Good Luck

Hello Guys!!!

I have HP Probook 4520s. I have 9 cell 7200mAh battery installed on my laptop. My laptop doesn't start up when i press power button while on battery power. When i press power button LED light (where charger cable connected) blinks four or five times and stops and laptop doesn't start but when i connected charger (AC Power) then it starts up and works normally. I am facing this problem from about a month and it doesn't solved. Please help me to solve my problem.....I am waiting for your replies.....Thanks!!!

A:HP Probook 4520s doesn't start!!!

Laptop batteries can suddenly fail without warning. Or over time they can slowly lose their ability to hold a charge. The fact that your laptop powers up when connected to AC power seems to support the idea that the battery suffered a complete failure.

Just to play it safe and not risk damaging the laptop's internal electronics, I'd remove the battery and run on AC only. If you have access to another battery from the exact same model laptop, you could substitute that battery for yours and see if your laptop works. If it does, you'd be pretty safe in saying your battery is dead. If you don't have access to another battery, you could take it to a local repair facility and ask them to check it. I think most shops will do this for free as a courtesy (at least the shops where I live do it that way.)

If you want to replace the battery, and if your laptop is still under warranty, buy an HP battery so you don't void the warranty. If it's no longer under warranty, or if you don't care, you can probably find a generic battery for a lot less money. Just remember: you get what you pay for and non-genuine batteries could have their own compatibility issues.

I have 4 gigs of ram, so I thought that would give me enough processing power, but what I posted above is the only thing that seems to be low. Does the dedicated memory just too low, or is the shared memory what I should be looking at?

Thanks.

In your case, the dedicated memory is for your video chip on your motherboard. It has 64 MB of RAM all to itself, and it will, if necessary, use up to 1632 MB system RAM, however system RAM is significantly slower than graphics RAM thus helps very little.

Essentially, there's not much you can do since it's a laptop. None of the HP ProBooks are capable of heavy graphics apps. The EliteBooks would do a better job of it, but you're looking at a good $1500 to get comfortable.

If you need a laptop from HP that plays well with graphics intensive apps, the HP Envy series will do you much better.

If you think the update installed another driver for you DVD player, you could try to go to properties in device managet and try to roll back the driver. Failing that, if you know the proper driver, select update driver, select choose from my computer, then select let me choose. The program will show all appropriate drivers installed in your computer. If that doesn't correct the problem, download the driver from HP. It should have an .exe file that will install without the DVD.

A:Restore HP Probook 4520s to factory settings

Hi, See if you can remove the Admin Password - see Here.  When done, try option 1 in my previous post.  Otherwise, the only other options are to order Recovery Disc, or if notebook came with Windows 7, try the following. There may be a work around if you have ( or can borrow ) a retail Windows 7 installation disc that is exactly the same version as your OEM installation - ie if your notebook came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit this is the exact retail version you would need. If you have access to this, just use the retail disc to perform the installation, enter the activation key found on the underside of your notebook when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations. http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-windows-7-by-phone.aspx Any additional drivers you may need can be found starting Here. Regards, DP-K?

Heya  I have lately been trying to upgrade my boyfriends computer to Windows 10 64x.It is currently running on Windows 10 32x, but it should according to information found online be able to upgrade to 64x, and it says it is capable to do so in the system specifics.  However, when I try to boot from USB with the Windows 10 installation properly installed on it, the computer turns itself off when the Windows Corporation loading screen shows up. The same also happens when I have tried to do a factory reset on the computer, booting in safe mode and the like, it just completely shuts itself off at the moment Windows Corporation and the loading screen shows up.  Any ideas of what is wrong or what I can do to get around this issue? Any other workarounds I could do? I know the computer is old now, and that the issue may be unfixable, but I am willing to give most ideas a shot at this point.

A:HP Probook 4520s Fails To Upgrade To Windows 10 64x

Cucumberwax Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! Wish I had good news for you -- but I don't.First off, you need to know that you can not UPGRADE from 32-bit to 64-bit -- in the sense that you can keep the data, settings, and applications.  Instead, you have to do a completely new installation -- and this will not retain anything from the current setup.  So basically, it's installing a clean, new version of the OS to the PC. Second, according to the HP_product page for this laptop, it came with Win7 preinstalled, not Win10.  That means it must have been Upgraded to Win10 at some point, and that would have corrupted the HP Recovery information, making it unusable after that:  HP Recovery Manager Blocked After Windows 10 Upgrade - HP Support Forum - 5170752 Thus, a factory reset is NOW, not going to work -- due to the Win10 Upgrade. It could be that the boot record has been corrupted, but in order to repair that, you have to be able to boot either from a DVD or from a USB stick.  You can make the necessary Win10 boot media from this link: Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help But ... if you can't boot from anything, then your only recourse to get it working is to take it to a repair facility -- as they would be able to remove the hard drive, and presuming it is still OK, restore the boot information to that drive to get it working again.Good Luck

Dear All,

i have a HP Probook 4520s (now out of warranty) and i want to bring the same to factory condition bcoz of virus issues.

Now, on various forums i read there is an option of F11 for recovery manager, which is not working in my case.

1) In Disk management I can see my recovery partition (15 gb) but with no option of making it active.

2) My recovery partion is more like a folder in C: HP_RECOVERY_mountHPSF

What can be the best way to restore to the factory condition. This is a legitimate Windows 7 copy and therefore i do not want to install some other copy, also there could be issues with drivers and all.

I would really appreciate if the forum members can help me in resolving the issue.

Hello everyone. I'm thinking about exchanging the Wireless-Network Card in my Probook 4520s, because of the low data throughput. So I searched for a while for a 5 Ghz supporting Card and found out, that I'm only able to get "whitelisted" Cards working. So I looked at this page:http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c02487851&jumpi...These Cards might be all, that were used in the 4520s. Mine (according to the device-manager) is the Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n. This thing only supports 2.4 Ghz. Now I looked at the list for a 5 Ghz supporting Card. I think the 802.11A/B/G/N WLAN Intel HMC minicard 572520-001 could run on 5 Ghz, because I read, that A is only listed with 2.4/5 Ghz Cards. Also I read, that 2.4/5Ghz cards have 3 antennas, but on this card I only the the slots for 2. Is this right? And would this Card run in my 4520s? Greetings,Colonie

A:ProBook 4520s - Exchanging the Wireless-Network Card

Hi, Colonie: You are absolutely correct regarding your statement about the dual band cards being described as A/B/G/N. The easiest thing to do is to look at chapter 3 of your service manual. You can only order one of the cards listed as supported and it MUST have the HP part number on it or it will not work. I only see two choices for you... The Intel 6200 and the Broadcom 4322.  Make sure you also get the part # that corresponds to what country you live in. If your current Broadcom card has integrated Bluetooth, you will lose your Bluetooth capability unless you order an HP integrated bluetooth module and probably the cable too. None of the dual band cards have onboard bluetooth. Link to the service manual. http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02439213/c02439213.pdf Then you can order a card at the link below. If you don't live in the United States, you can change the country at the top of the page to yours. http://h20141.www2.hp.com/Hpparts/Default.aspx?mscssid=6857BCBBC4CD4470B9282F130A563697 Paul

A HP probook 4520s does suddenly not react anymore to pressing the power button.   It had been used without a battery and it was working well until a few days ago.   It was connected to a power adapter, which is not faulty, because it still works with another HP laptop. Now when the power cable is plugged in, both the white LEDs of the power jack and of the power button and also the orange LED of the Ethernet interface blink simulataniously and regularly.  The three  LEDs are on for about 5 seconds, then off for a fraction of a second, then again on for about 5 seconds and so on.   Nothing happens except the blinking LEDs.    I have already tried the hard reset.    What parts do I need to replace, the power jack, or the power button or both?    Or is there anything else I can try, which does not require a battery?

Hello, recently I tried to upgrade a HP Probook 4520s from Windows 10 32xbit to Windows 10 64xbit.Of course there is no way of doing that without doing a complete reinstall of Windows, but when trying to do that the computer would crash and just turn itself off when trying to revert or do a clean reinstall. From an earlier post here, I learned that reinstalling Windows on the computer would be impossible, as the harddrive came installed with Windows 7 and would therefore not be able to revert back to Windows 7 after having been upgraded Windows 10, as far as I could understand. I'm now again trying to upgrade the computer again, and have a new harddrive I can use to exchange with the old one.The thing is, once I have the new harddisc put into the computer, trying to boot Windows 7 or 8 from USB just makes the computer crash, in the same way it did when trying to revert back to an earlier Windows version with the old harddrive. What am I doing wrong here, and what can I do to fix this? Is it totally impossible for this computer to have Windows 10 64x installed at this point, without taking it in for repairs?

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer would be to try installing W10 by using a DVD instead. Use the media creation tool to make an ISO file so you can burn it to a DVD. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 If your pc previously had W10 on it and was succesfully activated, you can directly install W10 without having to first install W7, W8 or W8.1. Just select the 'I don't have a product key' option instead of entering a W10 product key (which you don't have).

Hello HP Experts,My wife's laptop recently had a hardrive issue and now it won't boot.I suspect the harddrive is failing and will need to be replaced. I've tried many of the common tools and processes to fix the drive, but to no avail.I also tried to access the hardrive using an external enclosure attached to another computer but it can't read the drive.I suspect this is because she enabled full hard drive encryption using HP Protect Tools. She has the USB key to unencrypt the drive. And unfortunately she doesn't have a recent backup.I was going to use HP Recovery to restore it the factory settings but that means she will lose data and files. But before I try that, is there anyway to mount the drive externally and use the USB key to remove the encryption. That way I can try to copy off and/or recover her data files before the factory restore.I was hoping HP might have something like a bootable version of HP Protect Tools that can use the USB key and remove the encryption. Thanks...

Hello dear community  Long story short: I have a HP ProBook 4520s and yesterday I manually upgraded it (with the tool provided by MS) from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. Everything went fine and smooth and it works perfectly good so far.The problem is that some of the features of the laptop don't work anymore. Here are a few examples:- scroll option on the touchpad- built-in camera- some of the FN buttons like the one for screen brightness while others (such as the volume and e-mail) work My reasoning is that it's either missing some drivers or these functions are somehwat not compatible with the new OS (it's a 5+ year-old PC after all), but I might be wrong. I would love to hear some suggestions and opinions on this.  If anyone needs my full specs, here there are: Operating System:  Windows 10 Pro 64-bit  CPU:  Intel Core i3 330M @ 2.13GHz 61 C  Arrandale 32nm Technology  RAM:  4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 532MHz (7-7-7-20)  Motherboard:  Hewlett-Packard 1411 (CPU 1)  Graphics:  Generic PnP Monitor ([email protected])                      512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series (HP)  Storage:  1043GB Western Digital Black2 WDC WD1001X06X-00SJVT0 (SSD) 42 C  Optical Drives: DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device&nbs... A:Missing features on a ProBook 4520s after Windows 10 upgrade

Hello, I had the same problem yesterday after upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. After searching the web I found this solution (source: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01114052#SelectiveUpdate) which worked for me:      Step 4: Selectively update the imaging device driverIf a webcam driver is recognized after running the scan for new hardware in Device Manager, verify it is the latest version of the driver. note:If there is an HP webcam driver on the product page for your model and OS, use that driver, otherwise use the Microsoft USB Video Device driver. In the Device Manager, under Imaging Devices, expand the list of webcam drivers, right-click the webcam driver, and then select Properties.Figure : Webcam PropertiesMake a note of the existing name of the webcam driver (Example: HP Webcam), as it may change after the update. On the Webcam Properties window, select Update Driver....When prompted, select the option to Browse the computer for desired driver. When prompted, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer option.De-select the Show compatible hardware checkbox, select Microsoft in the Manufacturer pane, select USB Video Device in the Model pane, and then click Next to install the desired webcam driver.Allow the installation of the USB Video Device, and then click Close.View the Imaging devices option in the Device Manager to verify the presence of a webcam driver.   Hope ... I get this error when upgrading the wireless card to a Intel centrino advnace 6230

A:error 104 unsupported wireless card on an hp probook 4520s

Hi: You can only install the cards listed in your 4520s service manual, and they must have the HP part number on them that is listed in the manual, or they will not work. See Chapter 3 for the list of supported cards with HP part #'s. http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02439213/c02439213.pdf Paul

A:HP ProBook 650 G1 BIOS PASSWORD

@Cd-Roman For that model you will need to contact HP and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.  http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.html When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request. REO

Bought two farily expensive OEM PH09 extended life batteries from an authorized HP vendor online eight months ago for a conference. Used each battery twice over the course of four days. One then sat in my laptop unused for a couple months after that, and when I next turned it on, the laptop reported it as "0% available (plugged in, not charging)". I assume it discharged completely, even though the laptop was off or hibernating. Battery reports same condition on friend's ProBook. OEM power supply charges the other battery (and my original battery) fine. On plugging in the power cord, I get a brief orange flash from the charging light above the port, then nothing. Updated the laptop BIOS, no joy. Have deleted the battery items in Device Manager, no joy. Have booted without battery and added, booted with it and removed it, all the combinations, no joy. Installed the HP Support Assistant and ran the battery check and it reports "The battery is functioning correctly, but it has not been charged recently. The battery should be charged completely before removing the AC adapter." Thanks :-). Research suggests some chip in the battery itself has simply "turned off". I asked the vendor for help, they said call HP. Took a long time to reach someone at HP, they said talk to the vendor. Vendor then said there's only a 90-day warranty on batteries, and basically bugger off. I still have my original sales receipt. Can I send this battery in to HP for a replacement? It's very frustratin... Read more

Hello all,I have been plagued with an issue.Upon plugging the charger into my laptop, regardless of power setting, the cpu speed will slowly plummet to 101mhz regardless of usage.I have checked and double checked the Minimum and Maximum processor state options to try and alleviate it but these have no change, the problem only occurs when windows is booted outside of safe mode.Cpu/gpu temperatures appear to be within their normal ranges, however the cpu speed will ascend to the normal 2.53 ghz once the battery charge has reached 67-69%,hwmonitor shows voltages within normal ranges, and the battery at 0% wear.Changing the Maximum/Minimum processor states will temporarily raise the cpu speed to normal for roughly 5 minutes, then it begins a slow descent to 101mhz,any help will be appreciated!
