I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Touch screen update

Your not the only one. Where i work at one of our branches a technician rang me and informed me that a few ppl had been on phone with the same problem. Apparently, and i havent witnessed it yet, but a driver roll back will sort it, as how to stop it auto updating again..........

I installed Windows Updates about a week ago. After my laptop restarted following the download the touch screen stopped working.  I followed the Troubleshooting instruction which seemed to be on track, until it said to uninstall the driver then restart the PC to force the touchscreen to reinstall.  There was no touchscreen driver to Uninstall and restarting the computer didn't force one to appear.  I think I might need to reinstall the driver, but I don't know what driver I had in the first place or where to install it. I called Microsoft support and they informed me I would need to reinstall the driver from HP.  Problem is, that I don't know where the driver is located.

Hi, my laptop running 8.1 (came with 8 from factory, updated when 8.1 came out) was updated a couple of days ago, through an official prompt. Since the restart, I am getting a Touch Keyboard icon on the taskbar, Office apps have a touch mode and the pointer keeps disappearing. It never did this before the update. My laptop is NOT touchscreen, it is a series 5 Samsung, I don't mind the new icons to be honest, but can't stand the pointer disappearing and having to reboot every time. Any ideas as to why it happened and how I can fix it/avoid it in the future? TYIA

A:Laptop thinks it's touch screen after update

If you go to the bottom left of your screen, right click, then click on system, does it say that there is pen and touch support?

Also go to Device Manager, and check to see if there are any Pen and Touch devices installed.

If you can, post a screen shot of your device manager, Your system Window, and your desktop, that will help me, and others to find out the problem to this issue.

Its strange if Windows has loaded drivers for a device that isn't present, or installed the wrong drivers for a device on your system.

This has happened a few times.  After Win 10 updates the touch screen won't recognize touch, works fine otherwise.  I see a error message in Device Manager - Universal Serial Bus - Unknown USB Device - Device Descriptor Request Failed. The error message description is "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
I have uninstalled the driver then reinstalled
Rebooted the PC
Restored my device to a good last know state
Updated drivers from the Dell support site
BTW, the last time this happened I literally reinstalled my operating system but that only worked temporarily.  The Dell diagnostics software caused my system to go into a PC Diagnostics and Repair loop.
I am hoping there is a patch that resolves this issue as its "chronic"

I have a 410s that has been running fine for quite some time. Unfortunately the touchscreen stopped working quite a while back. It seemed it coincided with a windows update. So when i swipe across the screen it will respond. I can even swipe to a single-click button and release on the button to get a successful tap. A simple tap, however is not registered as one. Sometimes it makes the little ring as if the tap was successful, but it does not respond. I have tried unistalling all drivers for this device 1. replacing them with the latest drivers found on the legacy support page (i think those are winows 7 64-bit drivers) 2. having windows install whatever it sees fit. When i go the the calibration page i cannot even confirm that this is the touchscreen since i cannot tap. To be clear. I have been running the 64-bit widows10 for year successfully, (i assume with the driver that Windows installed at the installation). My system: Win10 64-bit. I would be very thankful for any ideas, since this problem has been slowing me down in my daily work (shipping console and virtual cash register).

I did some updates on my Yoga and now my touchscreen no longer works. I have gone to the device manager and updated and checked on it. No luck. My pen works, but the finger touch does not. Nothing else seems to have happened to my computer past the updates. It seems like others seem to have this problem since updating their computers. My computer is no longer under warranty, and since I bought this thing for its touchscreen, I am a little choked that it has gone kaput. Would it have been the update that caused it, or would it have been just a case of it went kaputsky at the same time and it is a mere coincidence? Either way, I am really upset that this machine is broken so soon. Any idea if there is going to be an update to fix this or if it is now just blown?

Hello, I?m sorry for posting this problem for probably the hundreth time, but none of the solutions are working and I?m about to lose my mind. Windows 10 did another surprise update, but this time I received a notification telling me to restart my laptop to repair my drivers. I did that and it continued to try to repair Driver C a few times before it sent me to the blue troubleshoot screen. I selected the restart option but my laptop never fully restarted because it got stuck on the black screen after the Lenovo logo loaded. My problem is that a majority of the solutions require you to reboot in safe mode. I can?t reboot in safe mode as it keeps bringing me back to the black screen. I have tried rebooting in safe mode through both the troubleshoot menu and the command prompt. I have also tried startup repair, trying to reload a previous version of Windows, and system restore but none of these options worked or produced an error. When I tried to reload a previous version of Windows, I received a message saying it was unable to do that and to try resetting the PC instead. I don?t want to lose everything from resetting, so is there any other possible thing I can do? Thank you in advance for any help and for taking the time to read this.

Hi Huser,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

You can also refer to this thread which is similar to your query.

This issue might occur if the touch screen driver is corrupt.

Try updating the video drivers & reboot. Please CLICK HERE for drivers. You could also use the System Restore feature to get your computer back the time when it worked.

Hope this helps.

Windows update caused this problem on 22-12-2008 and I noticed this error last week.

Problem with Video Driver :
NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 Video Driver - 7.15.11.5682
This is the video driver version for my HP tablet(HP Website). But windows update installed the latest version(7.15.11.7770) from NVIDIA. From that time onwards, my touch screen stopped working.
I contacted HP care and they advised me to follow these steps.
1) Uninstall the latest driver and install the 7.15.11.5682 driver by giving the video driver (devicemanager ->display adapter -> Nvidia 6150 -> uninstall)
2) Bios Flash (they provided the software)
3) Calibrate
I am done with the first two steps but still my touch screen is not recognizing the pen. So I couldn't calibrate.
When I contacted the HP care again, they are telling it may be because of hardware failure. My notebook is working perfectly except this touchscreen problem.

Again they asked me to do the driver installation in safe mode.
(Add/Remove Programs -> Remove only display adapter)
Driver installed successfully but in device manager it is showing the latest version.
I tried two times, but couldn't help. I can't install the older driver. pls help.

I even enabled the downgrade in BIOS and flashed the previos BIOS version 7QCN38WW (fortunately, all the installed versions are stored on C:\BIOS), but no luck! First, to make this absolutely clear: there isn't even an entry in Device Manager, as in "there's an unknown device". The touch screen completely disappeared as a device. Nothing detects it. Even the WriteIt app cannot start because it cannot detect touch or pen inputs. Second, this happened approximately two months ago. Since many updates installed then I cannot tell after which one specifically it happened. There were Windows updates but also a ThinkPad BIOS v1.38 update through Lenovo Vantage. After that the touch screen hasn't work and is still not working. That's two months. Unfortunately I cannot rollback updates through Lenovo Vantage (and anywhere else for that matter). I can only rollback Windows updates but there are so many, it'll be very time-consuming and inconvenient. I don't want to sound whiny and entitled but I still cannot understand how is it possible to have this issue for so long without any available resolution. Basically I cannot use the touch screen of a device which main selling point was the touchscreen. Is there a way to do a hardware diagnostic that will tell me more? I tried browsing through the BIOS but couldn't find anything. I doubt it is a hardware issue because I've always been very protective with my machine and haven't abused its flexibility in any way. It's mostly staying as a normal laptop on my desk with the ocassional change of posture to bring the touchscreen closer to me. I really hope something can be do... Read more

Until recently I managed to disable the driver for only the touch driver (not the screen) through device manager, but then a lately update for windows 10 activated the driver again. So now the 5-6 points is constant active, and I cannot login because the screen will not focus on the login field.  This means I cannot login to windows 10. ISSUEThe 720 touchpad and touchscreen are the worst.  This issue started out of the box before I had even gone on line.  When the touchpad does work, the right click/left click distinction doesn't work and I have to use the screen, when it's working, for the long hold until the right click options appear. When the screen is working, the ability to close a window and touching it just the right way is dubious at best.  I've tried modifying sensitivity, etc, in the control panel, but there is no difference.   When both window and touchpad stop functioning, I plug in an old HP mouse I have, but when I'm mobile, this means running the mouse down my leg if I don't have a surface to place my laptop upon.  And it also means carrying a mouse with me everywhere I go.  My line of work is often standing and walking with clients so  not really possible in my line of work.   RETURN/REPAIR OPTIONS AREN'T OFFERED OR ARE NOT PRACTICALTo back up a bit, I attempted to return this to BestBuy, but was four days beyond the allowable return date.  I contacted Lenovo, but it's all about mailing it in or turning the laptop over and being without anything for a few days.  Hard to find those few days.  I've tried to live it, but it's been an enormous killer of productivity, not to mention incredible frustration and some embarrsassing typos.    PAST YOGA BUILD WAS GREAT - WHAT WENT WRONG WITH THE 720?My last Yoga 710 wa... My Lenovo U410 Touch recently got damaged - the hinge broke causing the touch screen to **bleep**.I was told that a repair was not feasible as none of the repair shops near me were able to source the parts needed.I therefore bought a new laptop. However, there is a lot of data on the old laptop that I want to access, including sorting out the licensing of MS Office (by uninstalling from the old one).I cannot do anything about it as the old machine is completely unusable as due to the touch screen being cracked, it seems to think it is constantly being touched in multiple places on the screen. This means that I cannot access the laptop to copy the data or uninstall Office. Anyone know any way around this that doesn't involve taking it to a repair shop to "recover" my data. Cheers

My laptop automatically updated in Sept./Oct. It took about an hour and had multiple restarts, so I am assuming it was a Windows 10 update. I am not 100% sure though. I am not 100% sure though. Afterwards, the touch screen doesn't work. I can tap the screen and it will select stuff but I cannot scroll or anything else. Anyone able to help with this? It is drving me bonkers.

My Ideapad S415 touch screen has suddenly stopped working.  I've had a tech connect to my PC and try a BIOS reload of default settings, plus unistalling all "HID" devices in Device Manager with no resolution.  I've also tried a system restore with no luck. The system properties does see the touch capability. Suggestions? Thanks.

A:Ideapad S415 Touch - touch screen stopped working

hi Hersh,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

First do a Power Drain
     (If the battery is removable)
Remove AC and Battery and hold the power button down for 15 sec.
Turn the computer back on and see if the Touch capability is now detected under System Properties,
                  If not
I suggest you contact Lenovo Technical Team about the Issue as this may be a device detection issue.
       Lenovo Technical Team

Regards
Solid Cruver

My touch screen stopped working about 2 months ago after an update and it came back then stopped again. I chechd for testing it in UFEI Bios and it is not listed. How can I get the correct bios and there are no drivers to update, the hid-touch screen driver says it fine.  Its been working fine for 2 years. Could the bios been changed?I downloaded the UFei bios that was on your site but it still didn't show up there. I tried a setup in windows but touch screen isn't working to calibrate.

Yesterday I was on my laptop and before I shut it down it went into what looked like a different mode. I booted it up this morning and it is still in this mode. It looks like touch screen mode but I do not have a touch screen.  The icons on the task bar are spaced out and there is a back button on the task bar too which is not normally there. When i right click against the task bar, one of the buttons says "Show touch keyboard button".  All of my files are spead out as if to have room for touching if I had a touch screen but I do not. I am finding this very annoying because I cannot get onto my desktop properly and is not in the right mode. Please help!

I just purchased a Thinkpad X1 5th Gen and was flabbergasted to find that it does not have a touch screen. I checked Device manager and nope, not there.  Is it possible to add drivers to turn LCD screen into touch screen or is this a hardware problem?

A:Thinkpad X1 5th Gen: replace no touch screen with touch screen?

I assume you are talking about x1 carbon.  There is no touch digitizer.  Most custimers didn't want or choose the touch option so the 4th gen was made without a digitizer option and the x1 yoga gen1 was basically an x1 carbon plus the touch digitizer.  The 5th gen carbon has no touch option but there is an x1 yoga gen2 with touch.  X1 carbon gen6 and gen 7 do have a touch option again, but they do not have the built-in pen found on x1 yoga gen 3 and 4.
