Sound and video sync issues

Q: Sound and video sync issues

Hello,

For about a week my sound has been running about 3 seconds behin the video. It's extremely confusing and makes it difficult to play.
My own footsteps sound like someone sneaking up on me.
I even checked lot of technical support videos for any solution.
Am I the only one with this issue?
Any suggestions on whats wrong and how to fix it? I've got a high end computer running easily at max setting.

Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you.

Preferred Solution: Sound and video sync issues

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:PC sound and video out of sync

Hi Danny

A few questions:
1) Is your PC a laptop or desktop? --- and if a laptop, does it have the ability to play a movie without starting Windows first? [If yes, test playing a movie in that manner, and see if things are in sync].
2) Have you tested with several DVD movies?
3) Are the movies you've tried store-bought retail versions, or burner-recorded duplicates or home videos?
4) What program(s) have you tried for playback?
5) Do you have any peer-to-peer sharing software on your PC?
6) Did DVD movie playback work at first, and only recently has a problem?

Quick fixes you can try in the meantime:
1) Unplug from the Internet and your local network (unplug ethernet, disable wireless) - shut down your firewall, antivirus, antispyware, instant messengers, any P2P sharing software, any multimedia programs other than those you will use for DVD playback --- and then try playing the movie. This will help if your system is simply over-taxed with background processes to playback a DVD movie properly.
***Don't forget to re-enable your firewall, antivirus, antispyware, etc -- before reconnecting to any networks or the Internet.
2) Try refreshing your codecs --- http://www.windows-vista-update.com/...ta_codecs.html --- hint: make sure to scan the download before installing the codecs (scan all downloads - to ensure your system's safety).

Best of luck
. . . Gary

Hi

I have a strange thing happening. I am producing some clips which are CGI that are all put together in Premiere Pro, After Effects and Encore 1.5. I have a problem that when I preview in premier or encore there is a massive out of synch issue with the audio and video. This problem occurs also when I view any finished avi files using Window media player 11. The problem is not there if I view using quicktime. The bizarre thing in WMP11 is that if I just tweak the brightness slider then the video catches up and everything is ok. The main issue is when I am editing the clips and previewing them in prem and encore, there is no slider for me to tweak to see if I have my timings correct etc.

Maybe I am wrong but it would seem the problem is shared between the adobe stuff and WMP11. Is there any codec issues maybe as it seems strange that the clips work fine in QT.

I look forward to your advice.

Steve

Hi,
Have a weird situation develop over the last few days.
When using YouTube or TVCatchup the sound is consistently early with reference to the picture. This started off as an occasional thing but is now becoming "the norm".
I can sometimes get the right sync but this entails rebooting the PC. I haven't installed any new software on the machine recently apart from the last round of Microsoft Updates and the Chrome update. Just to make sure it was nothing to do with the Chrome update I uninstalled Chrome completely using Revo Unistaller and re-installed with no change to the problem.
Just for the record I'm running Windows 7 32bit Ultimate on a Dell Dimension E520 with a 3month old nvidea Geforce GT430 graphics card. I've even re-installed the nVidea driver.
Any ideas anyone?

Hello Arfer,

Before doing anything you should try watching youtube on Internet Explorer or another browser like Mozilla Firefox. If the problem is still there then try reinstalling the sound driver. Check your sound driver info and try updating to the latest driver.

A:WMP burned dvd sound + video not in sync

This is a fairly common occurance. Audio and video get procesed seperately and when they get muxed back together, errors in codec handling, vairable bit rates, index errors and the like all can contribute to syncing problems. You might try a different program that may be more competent at keeping a-v sync as a first course of action.

A:sound out of sync on video downloads

That out of sync might have been baked into the original. Do you know of anyone else who has a copy and if its better or the same? Entertainment producers have been known to deliberately intrroduce keyframe errors and use variable bit rates to throw off duplication efforts. Sort of a poor man's copy protection--not stopping anyone but making it irritable to watch.

Did you try starting the video and then jumping ahead to near the end and if its instantly completly out of sync as badly as if you had run it from the beginning I think its baked.

Hi,
I've noticed with some games that I play, there's a discrepancy in cutscenes between the video and the audio. I first discovered this with Beyond Good and Evil and it's pretty bad with Giants: Citizen Kabuto (it seems to start off in that game with a difference of a few seconds and then matches towards the end of the scene). I'm running XP SP2 and my system is more than capable of handling the games. My drivers and patches are all up-to-date. Also seeing as I have observed Giants run well on other lower powered and older systems I believe it to be a configuration or hardware compatibility problem.

Try this. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the SoundBlaster and then LEFT click "uninstall". DO NOT check the box to uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the SoundBlaster. If there were any corruptions between Windows and the sound card this will fix it. This also fixes other flakey problems and if you are lucky will take care of your problem.

In November I got Verizon lte installed internet provider to replace Clear. Ever since when I go to watch tv or any videos in full screen mode the voice is all out of sync. I have 2 desktops running windows xp and using sea monkey (mozilla) browsers. One is connected to tv in the living room and the other to a 15" monitor. I have never had a problem before, so I'm not sure if its the lte service or something else. I have spent hours searching for a solution and nothing has worked so far. I have the latest version of flash player and it is the correct plugin for mozilla. Verizon is no help, they sent out a "tech guy" which was nothing more than a independent cable tv installer, He was here about 5 minutes looking at lights on the cantenna and router and saying "everything is working fine" Any suggestions on how to solve this problem?

A:Audio-video out of sync in video processing in Ulead Video Studio

The problem is that the framerates are a little bit different and there is no keyframe info for each to keep themselves in sync.

In fact some media companies deliberately introduce keyframe errors so that conversion prgrams and the like don't keep the video and audio in sync.

I'm still waiting for a good solution myself but at least you know you're not the only one with the problem by a long shot.

Ok,Here is the issue with this sound card. First off it's a nice Diamond (great cards) Xtreme Sound 5.1. The problem I have with it is it's affected by certain videos. Youtube it plays fine.....until you go into Full Screen mode, then it's garbled...you can't make it out what anyone is saying during play back in F\S mode. Another problem I have is Encoding videos do the exact same thing!

Last night I downloaded a freeware program that was on my old box called "Panzera mp4 to avi converter 1.3" it's a great program. My Camera uses the Mp4 format and I am not too fond of quicktime just to run that format. The reason I am trying to convert them is to kill the file size and make "nolstalgia" DvD for the family. the Mp4 plays fine however,no sound problems in the original clip.

My video and sound cards are up to date, My video card is a Geforce 8400 GS. Running on a AMD Athlon 64 processor at 2.20 ghz with 1 gb of ddr. Anyone ever had this problem? I tried Divx and Xvid thinking it was a codec problem. boy was I wrong. any suggestions is welcomed.

Update:This isn't really an update but I found out something weird. My video playback with Wmv,Mpeg,Avi,Asf ETC. is always garbled. No matter if it's online or on the computer the playback audio is garbled. What could be causing this. I uninstalled,re-installed Diamond Xtreme soundcard drivers. I installed DirectX9.0c, I have Divx and Xvid codecs. My sound drivers are up to date. I unhooked the onboard sound and uninstalled sound max after buying the Diamond. A friend told me I should disable the onboard sound entirely but I can't find the option in the bios. My mother board is a "Asus A8x socket 939" board. Any helps please? I am desperate!

Basically, every once in a while my sound will stop working, in turn all video plays extremely slow. Other symptoms... Watching WMP play a song is also slow (the timer moves slow). I think at the same time, anything flash stops working and reports a crash. The fix to this is rebooting the computer, and the frequency of this event is quite random. This is more of a nuisance than it is a problem. Sometimes it happens after a few hours, sometimes after a day.

I immediately assumed it was just my soundcard crashing and dying on me. The sound would randomly cut out. I'd reboot and all would be fine. But as of late, it's been cutting out audio a few seconds after booting up. I'd hear the login music, then nothing after that point. Videos would only play for exactly two seconds before keeling over. Again, I assumed it was merely the card, and did a simple relog. So I go to log out, and a bunch of programs I'd never even heard of were crashing left and right. And just before logout, I hear the exit music play. In addition, my calculator, MSPaint, and sound recorder programs have all mysteriously vanished, as well. No trace, not way to get them back, even with the windows CD. System restore is off. I have installled all the vista 64 drivers from realtek including the beta drivers only to find that none of them show as digitally signed - seems odd, as vista requires signed drivers, that realtek would offer unsigned drivers for vista. Anyone out there in the big wide world know where i can get a digitally signed driver?

When looking in device manager it says not enough resources for second card code 12 , i have 5 gb ram, what do they mean by resources? - After much research i have found that there are no drivers out there to support sli on vista 64 as yet.

I've been having some rather annoying issues with with my new pc. I built a custom machine using a new mobo, power supply, ram, dvd-rom, video card, and the old sound card from my last pc. I noticed at start-up that no bios was showing up..which scared me..but windows xp installation went smoothly. After reboot, however, I noticed that the colors were a bit messed up...and the further I got through start-up...the worse the video got. I ended up with lines and then everything went all checker board on me. I replaced the 256mg AGP ATI Radeon 9550 with my old 64mg GeForce 4 mx-se and that fixed the video prob. But after installing the sound card drivers and software (Creative Audigy 2 ZS platinum)...the software wont recognize the card..even though windows does and I get sound. My friend suggested that maybe my power supply wasn't powerful enough (600) or just bad. I've spent hours trying to find solutions online but found nothing. If anyone has a theory on how to fix the video and sound probs..I'd be grateful.

have you tried to test the 9550 on another pc if it runs ok?

PSU issue.. he is valid on this.. what brand is it? you may have guessed (search 'psu' on this forum) by now how many issues are related to cheap/noname psu's.. even if its a top quality brand just for teh sake of elimination, test in another pc...

update chipset drivers and bios flash, as well as any windows sp's and updates, and drivers updates.. you can get info on the mobo specs (or other hardware) if you dont have its box etc by using a program like everest home or SIW...

try swaping to a different slots (if available) for the audigy and the 9550 and see how that goes.. and since its a custom pc, did you build it yourself or a friend or company? just double check everything is seated properly (might as well pull everything out and reseat them), check for shorting to the case on the mobo, and theres no sign of physical handling damages...

Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the place to post this issue but here goes:

When i try to watch videos (streaming from websites) the video and sound are in sync with each other. However after about 15 minutes in, they start to get out of sync and it gets progressively worse as time goes on. (The sound comes through about 2-3 seconds before the video). Is there anything i can do about this problem? i'm fairly sure my laptop is up to the challenge as it is a brand new Dell Inspiron with dual-core processor running Vista.

Any Suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey there,

Since December I have had this computer I built and it's been running great! Just this last weekend though something happened and now it just crawls along. This is on windows 7.

17 920 processor
12gb Dominator Corsair Ram
ATI 5870 1gb graphics card
150gb velociraptor hard drive
EVGA E760 classified mobo

The computer recognizes all of this as working on my comp, however if I try and play music or play a game I can't get above 5 fps.

So what's going on is any time I turn it on the sound is extremely distorted, the video lags like a mother and my processor is on high usage even just at start up with nothing running. I have no extra tasks going (even after format same issue)

This happened after I took out my graphics card, ram, and other things to clean it and put it back. To resolve this problem I have re-seated everything, including the processor to make sure they are all good, the problem still persists... I have updated my video and sound drivers which does not fix the issue, I have reverted to a previous state on my drive before this happen and it still persists, I have even formatted and re-installed windows, I've made sure all my IDE drives are running on ultra dma, no luck.
So basically I've come to the assumption that it must be my hardware causing the issue. It really seems like the CPU might be the bad egg, however it always runs at about 40 C which is no where near an overheat / damaging temp.

Had a XFX Radeon HD 6770 in one slot, and below it was a SIIG 7.1 Channel C-Media chip sound card.

When the second XFX Radeon HD 6770 came in along with the crossfire bridge, I had to relocate the sound card to a different slot inbetween both video cards.

Now, anytime I go into something graphics intensive (video games), I get a nearly constant high pitch squelching/buzzing sound.

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the sound card drivers to no avail.

Tried my onboard card, and it does NOT give this buzz, but I have two issues with this. First is that for some reason, my onboard sound card only streams sound to the left speaker. The right remains dead. Secondly, I dont wanna use onboard lower quality when I paid good money for a PCI card.

Ideas?

I suddenly have no sound, the microphone doesn't work and videos won't play online (youtube, etc.). I found out while trying to Skype that there was no sound and the microphone doesn't work anymore (Viber also doesn't work and neither does the call function via Facebook). I have used Skype before on this computer and it worked fine then. All the devices (drivers) are working properly (no yellow exclamation marks of doom) and I haven't changed any settings that I know of. What on earth is going on? I can't even listen to any music! (and yes, I did check that the volume is up).

A:Suddenly no sound, no microphone & video issues

First suggestion, as it worked previously and now does not, is to use the System Restore function and restore it back to an available restore date when it did work.

System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

System restore will not delete any user data or e-mails, but any programs or updates installed after the restore date will have to be reinstalled. Same way any programs uninstalled will have to be uninstalled again.

I just installed 2GB of RAM into my laptop from 512 the other day, things seemed to run fine, then I started getting some type of "MOM.implementation file not found" message when starting up Vista. Now, any video or sound files (movies, mp3s, etc. ) will play and sound like they're skipping and playing slowed down. I switched back over to XP (dual partitions) and checked the files, but they worked fine. I also put the Vista disk back in to see if I could rewrite the file that might be missing, no luck. Tried system restore, but theres not a file thats saved before the error started occuring. Any ideas what I might be able to do to fix this.

Greetings folks, first timer, long time windows user since like....Win95 I think.

Anyway I was browing the web today when I came across one of those ads that say you have a virus, pop up box, "Press ok to start a virus scan" I don't have an exact screencap of it so sorry if this comes across as vague.

Instead of my usual procedure which consists of unplugging my web and then closing the ad (Something I learned during my time with XP) I closed it and went on with my day, a few minutes later I attempted to watch a video on youtube and the video refused to play, I tried blip.tv, dailymotion, all wouldn't play.

Also strangely enough Windows Media Player will no longer play my mp3s, they are still physically there in My Music, but whenever I attempt to play anything it gives me the error "Windows media player has encountered a problem while playing the file"

VLC media player will still "Play" the mp3 in that the seek will be moving but there will be no audio.

The speakers still work because I am listening to them with my ipod right now.

I tried Chrome to see if my I.E. was just being a pain but Chrome does the same thing as internet explorer.

Before coming here I did a virus scan with AVAST! Anti-virus which says nothing is wrong.

Whatever is wrong it is recent and has just started today.

My OS is Win7 Home premium 64 bit, the computer it's running on is an Acer Aspire 5517 laptop, and if it helps the anti-virus Program version is 5... Read more

Since your problem just started today, a good idea is to use system restore. This will likely solve your problem. Just type system restore in the start menu search box and double click it when it appears. Pick a restore point from before the problem started.

So my mom's computer sucks and I'm trying to figure it out (I need a new motherboard for mine...I'd rather fix hers lol). My sister says it doesn't recognize that the speakers are plugged in and when I try to play something in Media Center it says, "There is no audio hardware available or the hardware is not responding." Also, upon starting Media Center, it says, "Your video card or drivers are nor compatible with Media Center." She says the internet isn't connecting but, honestly, I've no clue how to even start with that. On my last computer I just plugged the modem connection into the computer and it did everything itself...it doesn't do that on this one (nothing happens, and when I checked the internet connection through Media Center it said it couldn't find it).

I just asked my mom about what happened to it prior to this and she said something about the electric meter being changed which zapped it, unmountable boot drive, so my sister just reinstalled Windows and apparently that leaves us at the current point. Is it possible that the power zap messed with the drivers or do I just need to do some kind of basic check/install or what? Sorry...I'm not a total dunce with computers but I could definitely be a lot more knowledgeable. lol

hello,

I've been trying to look all over the web to see what could be the issue of my laptop randomly freezing. Ingame when i play League of Legends it happens frequently now where my Frames drop completely to the point where i cant see anything for a while, it is stuck on 1 frame. But i recently also started noticing some issues when watching a video on youtube where either the video would stop, and then play out as in hyperspeed, whilst the sound would normally continue.

I've been looking aswell on what might be the problem causing this and i checked my pc for malware/spyware/etc. and there was nothing on it (except for those damned tracker cookies). The temperature of my vents and cores are perfectly fine aswell which i checked with speedfan/GPU-Z. (i must add that i recently let my laptop get repaired and they replaced the vents, added new cooling paste and gave me a new C: drive). So dust can't be the issue since it has just been fully cleaned.

HOWEVER, i have been looking and seen some people write about running scf /scannow in CMD. This gave me the result that there were some files that could not be repaired. So i kept reading and tried to extract the Log into a Txt file so i could see for myself what was wrong. When i opened and looked through it i saw like 6-8 problems that could not be repaired, but i have no idea what to do or if im even on the right track.

Will repair files just let it do its thing!

Run command prompt as administrator then run sfc /scannow

You can run it from a recovery tool like this -

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows

Windows might be at C:\Windows when you're using it, but D:\Windows from the Command Prompt in System Recovery Options.
In most installations of Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7, C: usually becomes D: and in Windows Vista, C: is usually still C:. To check for sure, look for the drive with theUsers folder on it - that will be the drive Windows is installed on, unless you have multiple installations of Windows on multiple drives.

Hello, first time posting in these kind of forums. I’m used to googling around and finding the answer to my computer problems but so far no dice and I’m starting to get a wee bit stressed.

On Wednesday, my web browser FireFox and Adobe Flash player updated to the latest versions. I didn’t think anything of it until I attempted to play some videos and found the youtube ones crashing while other kinds of videos, often the HTML5 types (i.e. Vimeo) play but don’t have any sound at all.

I unchecked “Use smooth scrolling” and “Use hardware acceleration when available” as I seen advised when I looked up how to solve that problem but then I got the error where the youtube video tries to play the first few seconds three times as it tries lower or high quality settings before displaying its static “error” message and the other videos remain with no sound. I restarted the computer and reset firefox but I only came upon a solution when I temporarily disabled the speakers. When I re-enable the speaker, the sound comes back but soon it goes back to the status quo. It seemed to go away late Thursday morning and for the rest of the day but now its back.

I uninstalled Flash player and I thought that might be the cause but the youtube videos, which run on the inbuilt shockwave flash, just eventually become mute instead of crashing. Yesterday and today, some videos that continued playing as that came in and gained ... Read more

Hello,

I'm not sure which category to post this in, but I really need help!!!!
For about a week or so, all videos I've been trying to watch online (from YoutTube, to Tumblr, etc) are out of sync. The video is always ahead of the audio. However, after a few seconds of this, the video completely stops playing (both video and audio). I pause and try to play it again, but nothing will happen. So I bring the video back to the beginning, and it will run for an extra 3 or so seconds, with the video and audio still out of sync. I really don't know what to do. If it's any help, I use Windows 10 (not sure if that has anything to do with it though).
Any suggestions?

when i play videos on windows media player, it goes out of sync after the 'commercials/break'. the commercials have been edited out and the show cuts straight back in as if there were no commercials. but it seems to only go out of sync after when the commercial would have been.

It does this little weird distorted pixel thing for about 2 secs after every commercial too, and then carries on but out of sync.

ive been watching these shows for ages but its only recently decided to go all weird.
maybe theres a codec that could sort this out?!

any ideas?

A:Out of sync video

How was the video captured and how where commercials cut out? If captured to tape media first, a lose of "control track" can cause a lose of time code. If this occurs the video and audio may be out of sync when captured on computer. I have seen this when capturing from dvcam tapes that begin to wear out. A "glitch" on the tape causes an interuption to the time code ,when captured on comp. there is a lose of sync. If commercial were cut out via tape pause then record, this can occur. If same video file has played correctly in the passed, the lose of control track may have corrupted the file. Some players are more tolerant than others, maybe try anther player like Divx player. You may also be able to correct this via video editng software.

Hi,

I've noticed recently the sound within Chrome appears slightly out of sync. Now it's worth noting this is purely based from my eyes and ears, which probably isn't the most reliable combination to determine whether the sound is in fact out of sync, and it's only noticeable once I begin to look.

With that said, is any program or tool of some sort which can accurately determine this? The sound appears fine outside of Chrome, but again, we're talking small margins. It's not like the sound is ridiculously out of sync in Chrome, and fine outside. It's near on impossible to determine anything with just my eyes and ears.

I apologize if this is the wrong section, but I'm not really sure where else to put it.

My problem is pretty simple: All sound on my computer is out of sync. Youtube/Netflix videos (regardless of browser), video games, even general computer sounds (like an error prompt or some such), the sound comes later than the action. I have done absolutely nothing to my computer to disrupt my sound and prompt this strange occurrence.

Last night, I updated my graphics drivers and the problem was fixed. Until today. It was working fine this morning, but now it's back to the issue all over again. I'm running Windows XP SP3, and I couldn't tell you what my sound card is as it's onboard for my motherboard. And to be frank, the sound has been fine up until recently and there are no updates for the sound drivers; I really don't think buying a sound card is the solution here. My graphics card is a Radeon 5770.

I've got nowhere else to turn, so hopefully one of you on here is somewhat familiar with this problem and can help me figure it out!

I'm trying to burn what used to be an .avi file and now .IFO and .BUP files using Nero Express (burning image to a dvd). However, there seems to be an audio sync issue with a couple of my files, and the only option I have to adjust the audio is an audio delay option for IFOEDIT. The problem is not that the audio is ahead of video, it's the video going from 2 to 4 seconds ahead of audio (and needles to say, audio delay would only worsen the situation). It's 2 seconds for one file and 4 seconds for some others. Is there a program that allows me to speed up the audio to catch up with the video? Thanks.

I have a user who has a bunch of files that seem to delete themselves off of the server.

The user has a drive mapped to the server, and initially the "My Documents" folder was redirected to this network share (his home drive).

The redirection was based on group policy, but the user's computer has been moved from the "sync" OU to a "non-sync" OU, so he should not be syncronizing his files any longer.

He is not able to see his files on the server from multiple machines (which are all in the "non-sync" OU).

The files ARE on the server, so it's not like they are actually deleted. It's just that the user cannot see them. Also, he created a new file on the network share from another computer, and that file is still visible on the server from his machine.

Please let me know if there's anything that can be done so this user can access his files again!

Thank you!!!
