I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey, About a week ago I came back from vacation, Jan 20-29, and I installed a bunch of updates through the lenovo service center. A couple days later I noticed the fingerprint scanner had stopped working and a couple of days ago I noticed my usb ports weren't working either, with several usb drives that I had proven functional on a friends computer. After reinstalling some BIOS and usb drivers I have solved the usb problem, and I'm almost positive the fingerprint scanner is the result of some software. The timing is way too convenient to be anything else in my opinion. When trying to set up fingerprints through the "fingerprint enrollment" window it'll say "Cannot communicate with the sensor, please confirm the sensor is ready." Any and all suggestions are welcome. Morten Nissov

Help! I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th Gen (model 20HRC) that's about three months old. I've successfully used it with an Anker USB 3.0 hub that offers an Ethernet port and three USB 2.0 ports. After upgrading to Windows 10 build 1709 in October, the Anker Ethernet connection is no longer detected when I insert the USB C connctor. Neither port works. If I put a USB memory key into the Anker hub, it is not recognized, either. The same USB memory key is recognized if I insert it into the USB 2.0 connector on the right hand side of the laptop. When I connect my phone to the USB C connector, it is not recognized, either. The Anker USB Hub and my phone are both recognized when I connect them to my other laptop, so I have no reason to believe they're defective. Before I call Lenovo for support, what else can I check?

Since updating to Win10 1709, unlocking via fingerprint needs to be done twice (or I have to hold my finger on the pad continuously while it's checked twice). I get my normal startup screen, put my finger on the pad when the green light comes on, and Windows recognises me (it says hello to me) at which point I lift my finger. Then it asks me for my fingerprint again. This only happens when turning on from a shutdown. If I sleep or hibernate, fingerprint unlock works as it always has. Any thoughts? (Just installed a new BIOS update via Lenovo Companion, but that didn't help.)

Hello,

I am using a HP ProBook 6560b (Win 7 Pro x64) laptop which comes with a fingerprint scanner, which I want to be able to use to log in to Windows. This has got me stumped right now though, and I can't find a solution for this problem online. Here's hoping you guys know what the problem is

A few more details: The computer came with a bundle of HP programs, and after considering them and what they had to offer I uninstalled nearly all of them. As I said before, I want to be able to use the fingerprint scanner, and the only thing I've found so far which uses it is the HP ProtectTools. This program only allows me to link my fingerprint to credentials FOR various login screens (websites, programs, etc) AFTER I've logged into Windows using a password.

This function doesn't interest me. Do you guys have any idea how I can start using the fingerprint scanner to log in to Windows ?

A:Log in to Windows with fingerprint scanner

I would think that theres a driver for that and when installed it sometimes asks you what kind of install do you want a typical one or a custom one. I think under typical it should give you the option of just having it scan when you first log into windows only.Be careful tho i have that feature in 2 of my older ibm laptops and somehow i messed up and got locked out of my computer. i had to pull out the drive and remove the driver and never used it again.I guess its a nice feature to have when its done right but if not it can create a headache you dont need.

My Carbon X1 20bt is experiencing major problems with fingerprint reader and Windows 10. Everything was working fine with Windows 8.1 and the Lenovo software. After upgrading to 10, the Lenovo software was automatically deleted I guess because Windows 10 fully supports sign in with fingerprint. When I read my print in to Windows HELLo, it NEVER recognizes it when signing in. I have read it in to the system multiple times, but have never succeeded to log in with it. This problem has been existing for some time, but yesterday I was doing maintenance to my friends x240 and noticed her reader work without enabling Windows Hello. She didn?t have the pin installed for Hello and the reader worked just fine. On my X1, I have to put in the pin number to Hello or the whole reader is disabled. There was fingerprint reader driver update coming to x240 which I didn?t instal naturally. I tried to instal the 8.1 drivers back, but was unsuccessful. Any help would be appreciated, this is anoying!

I finally got Windows 10 installed via the update method from Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.  But now I am unable to get the fingerprint scanner to work. It shows up in Device Manager as working okay and drivers installed. However in Win10 Settings, Logins, the option to enable the fingerprint scanner does not appear.  Now what? One of the prerequisites to enable the fingerprint scanner in Win10 is to first set up a PIN login, which I did. After that and rebooted  I was offered the PIN signin, which worked.  But STILL, nothing I could do would let me setup the fingerprint scanner in Windows login settings. It's as though there was no fingerprint scanner installed on the machine. I checked the HP Support website for an updated fingerprint scanner driver, but none was offered. I tried uninstalling the hardware in Device Manager. It appears under Biometric>Validity Sensor.  After uninstalling I made it search for new hardware. It found that sensor and reinstalled the drivers. It said the device was working.  But after reboot I am still unable to see an Enable Fingerprint Scanner choice in Windows 10 Settings>Accounts>Sign-in Options. The items in the right column in that section are Require Sign-In; Password; PIN; Picture Password; and Related settings. When I search Win 10 settings for Fingerprint Scanner, it provides a link that takes me to that Sign-In Options page, but there is no item for Hello or Setup Fingerprint Sign-in.&... A:Windows 10 - can't activate fingerprint scanner login

After much trial and error, I have finally found a way to get the fingerprint scanner on select HP laptops to work with Windows 10 ?HELLO?. First, one needs to verify that the machine has the required scanner. The scanner is usually already installed in Device Manager, but not recognized anywhere else. So, to check that the device is the correct one for this process to work, its ID should be checked in Device Manager. To do this, follow these steps:Click on the Start button and type ?Device Manager? and ENTER. This should launch the Device Manager.Expand the Biometric devices. You should now see an entry for the Validity Sensor (It sometimes has additional descriptions, but all we need is to ID the VALIDITY device).Double-click on the VALIDITY device to open its? PropertiesClick on the Details tab and select Hardware Ids in the Property entry box.If the device can be ?fixed? with the process detailed below, it will have a Hardware ID of: USB\VID_138A&PID_0007You can now close all open windows until you are back at the desktop.Nothing has been changed yet, BUT?if the Hardware ID matches the entry above, you are ?good to go? in performing the procedures below! Hopefully, the Hardware ID will match on your machine and you can now proceed with the actual download and upgrade procedures as detailed in the following stages: Stage 1 - DownloadFirst, we need to get the correct driver for Windows 10. When awakening from sleep mode, It's about 50/50 that it won't work. I have the latest drivers for the fingerprint scanner. Hi all, I have a Inspiron 5567, i5-7200U, 8GB ram laptop. Before the update to Windows 10 build 1709, I could connect the laptop to the TV via HDMI without any issues. Since the update, all I get when I connect is an error message on the TV stating Resolution unsupported, change resolution on external device. The laptop will detect that the TV is connected and tells me that two monitors are connected if I go into the graphics driver properties.
I have tried a different HDMI cable, a different HDMI port on the TV, made sure all of the drivers are up to date, changed resolutions, changed display output type (extend, duplicate etc), checked for any device errors, but no luck. I have even got Microsoft involved to see if they could fix it, but no joy there either.
I have noticed that the Intel driver is a little ahead of the Dell/Intel driver version installed on my laptop, but when I go to install that, it fails saying that I need to go back to the manufacturer (Dell). I have even contacted my TV manufacturer, and they had no help either.
I'm 100% convinced that the latest 1709 build broke something, as I can roll back to the previous build and it works again. Unfortunately, I can't check against the latest Intel video driver, because it won't let me, even if I uninstall it first.
Is there anyone else having this issue? is there anything else I can try?

IQRL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Anyone else having this problem?

A:Windows 10 1709 update failing to install on Alienware 17 R3

Generally, the IQRL error is a memory problem.
Here is one explanation doing a search for that error:
"This Stop message indicates that a kernel-mode process or driver attempted to access a memory address to which it did not have permission to access"
Which in your case is the upgrade detected an error and fell back.
Have you tried the upgrade more than once?
FWIW, I'm having a similar problem on a Toshiba laptop.  It gets to the "Preparing to install updates" but then aborts and then starts over.  Haven't figured out what is wrong yet.

I have just installed Windows Update 1709 and ended up with a Black Screen.
I'm using a Dell Inspiron 660 which came with an ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO graphics card. After a lot of worry I decided to connect a second monitor to the VGA scocket on the motherboard  which sprang into life immeadiately.
I then trawled the internet looking for problems with ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO (AMD) and the latest Windows update, there are many many instances. The problem is with the driver, Device Manager shows "No driver installed for this device", although looking at the driver tab I have a driver dated 10/10/17 version 23.20.768.9. I downloaded 2 updates from and AMD website neither were successful.
I've tried rolling back the driver and deinstalling the device to no avail.
I'm still using the onboad VGA rather than the DVI-D socket on the ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO.
So it looks like the ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO is now obsolete as far as using it with Windows 10 is concerned.
I was hoping to find a solution on the DELL website as the card was supplied by DELL with the PC.

Hello Vgalav,
Have you tried these steps?
(1) Update the Bios.
(2) Enable biometric support:  BIOS > System Configuration > Biometric Device Option > enable
(3) Clean the fingerprint reader with a soft cloth, dampened with an ammonia-based glass cleaner.
(4) If the problem is not resolved, check to see if the Fingerprint Reader is detected in Device Manager.  If not, reinstall the drivers.  http://dell.to/1lAGqoK
(5) If the drivers do not resolve the problem, repair/reinstall the operating system.
(6) If reinstalling the operating system doesn't resolve the problem, the finger print reader may need to be replaced.
I hope this helps to resolve the problem for you,~Maureen#Iwork4Dell

Hello Folks,
I have a XPS 13 9360, 16 GB with an upgrade Samsung 960 Evo NVMe 1TB drive. I'm running Windows 10 Pro Build 1703, and the system runs nicely. However, yesterday Windows Update made me upgrade to 1709. The upgrade process ran smoothly, but afterwards I had the following problems:

When I tried to save a Hyper-V VM, my system sometimes crashes with a blue screen
When shutting down windows, the system gets stuck on the "Shutting down..." screen and can only be switched off by long-pressing the power-button. After that, the system boots into maintenance mode, when rebooting again it boots normally.

I forced a downgrade to 1703 and the problems disappeared again. Now I have disabled upgrades and am trying to find out how to fix this.
Has anyone run into problems with the 1709 update? Any suggenstions?
Cheers,
Uwe

Hello I've got a problem with Windows 1709 update. After I updated, games only sees and uses my R7 APU graphics card.My dedicated R9 M385X has absolutely no usage. In AMD crimson software, I can't set anything to "High performance" mode, so everything sticks with the R7 card. (More precisely I can set to R9 but the program sets it back to R7). In power options I slide the slider to the Max. Has anybody any solution for this problem? Thank youSorry for my English

Hello to you all !
I am stubbing to get the fingerprint scanner working on my Dell Latitude E7470.
I already get stuck when i want to set up my fingerprint in Windows Hello.
I must get my finger on the reader but can wait very long before the reader recognizes a finger on the reader, sometimes it does not see my finger at all ...
I installed the latest Control Vault driver (version A.09)  from the Dell Website.
If i install the previous Control Vault driver (version A.08) i can actually get through the set up from Windows Hello (that goed not very smooth and rather slow but i manage to finish it)  and use the fingerprint scanner BUT it is very slow with recognizing my finger and sometimes it does not recognize it at all ...
Is there a driver issue from Dell (version A.10 with Latitude E7470) or what is happening here ?
Can someone help me to get the fingerprint scanner work properly ?
Thanks in advantage for your help !

At this point I fear I must surrender to Dell and Microsoft and give up (something I hate to do). I have spent many, many, many hours and attempted every suggestion I could find on the web to make the Windows 10 Creator Update 1709 upgrade work, I have contracted with Microsoft and with Dell to have them make it work and they both tell me the same thing, that my computer will NEVER be able to run the update because it was not designed to.
My 7 year old Dell XPS L501X laptop with an i5 Intel processor and 6 gig of memory has been made useless by the corporations that manage this computer’s ability to stay current and secure with the provided Windows 10 operating system. When I purchased this beast of a laptop I fully expected to have more than 10 years of useful computing from it but apparently the companies have different ideas. It may be a conspiracy, or just inept engineering and programming, I will never know.
I have been told by Dell that I should have never upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 as the computer was not supported by Dell on Windows 10 and the fact that Microsoft encouraged us to move to Windows 10 was not their problem.
I am curious if anyone else has a Dell XPS L501X and what their experiences have been. Please let me know if you have one and how it is going.

I have attempted to load Essentials for Windows version 1709 numerous times on my NuVision Windows 10 tablet/PC to no avail. I have run the troubleshooter, deleted the software distribution downloads numerous times. I finally went to a Microsoft store with my NuVision and downloaded the update; however, due to time constraints I was unable to let it complete the installation. The technician said it should pick right back up where it left off after rebooting. This did not happen. An on-line chat with Microsoft recommended downloading the the Windows Installation Tool, which I did. It now has run through the download and is showing the small blue box with the Windows logo and the word Windows on my desktop, but no progress bar or any sign of progress being made. I realize this is a huge file and takes a long time to complete installation, but I wonder if this is normal for using this tool?
